Baby Soft is perfect for making layettes. I always try to have at least two layettes on hand in neutral colors (green and yellow). As soon as I know a family member or close friend is pregnant, I send them labeled color swatches of Baby Soft to select the layette color they want.
I use less lacy patterns for boys, more lacy patterns for girls and somewhere in between if they aren’t announcing the baby’s sex until birth. If you use Baby Soft buying the three pack is the most economical unless Michaels has a great sale.
Order two three packs. Depending on how large you make the blanket (I always make it larger the the pattern states) you will need the extra 4th and/or 5th skeins.

Very disappointed with this yarn – barely 1/3 of the way into the first skein and had to cut out 4 spots where fibers were unraveled. This is the first I’ve bought Starlette, hopefully this is an unusual situation.
Customer service did refund right away when I let them know so that’s a positive. Also very unhappy the complete care instructions are not on the website description. It says machine wash and dry in the product info on the website, but when you actually read the label, you have to treat it differently than a normal wash and dry.
Label says: “Machine wash 2 minutes on delicate cycle. Tumble dry at low heat approximately 5 minutes and lay flat to dry. ” Bought this to make a hat and mittens for my niece’s toddler son – no busy mom has time to treat garments different from the rest of the wash in this way.
It would take so very little to add the complete care instructions to the product description, and save customer irritation on receipt of the product.
Trying to find a replacement acrylic yarn for Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn because I am boycotting HL. Starlette is a great replacement! Nice range of colors, really soft, easy to work with for both my amigurumi and afghans, easy to wash and care for, and it’s priced the same as I Love This Yarn.
I only wish there were more variegated choices. I have also been impressed with Mary Maxim’s customer service and how quickly I have gotten my orders, since you know – 2020. By the way, Mary Maxim offered me a coupon for a future purchase if I review this yarn and mention these specific words: afghan, care and colors.
Go figure. Just like to be transparent in my reviews.
I love Mary Maxim Starlette yarn. It is soft and so easy to work with. I have made a Pale Petal Pick baby afghan. a large Amethyst afghan for my 20 year old granddaughter, and a large stripped afghan with Medium Blue, Soft Taupe, Med Taupe, Warm Brown, and Natural.
I loved them all. Sometimes it is hard to give them away, but I now they are going to great people.

Basic Stitch Premium will be the yarn in your stash that you turn to over and over again to make the most un-basic of projects.
I have made a number of crocheted projects with the now discontinued “Basic Stitch Premium”, I am 1 skein into my current project with the new “Basic Stitch anit-pilling” product. the yarn is denser, heavier and seems to be less length in a skein.
The yarn is not difficult to work with, but the texture is very disappointing. I am set for 14 more skeins many hours and an afghan that will genuinely FEEL like a big disappointment.
I was excited to finally try this line. I bought 1 skein to test and I’m glad it was just 1. I love the color but, THE TEXTURE is awful. It gave me the heeby jeebies to just rub this skein. It crunches when you squish it and I can’t explain what it’s like to just run you hand across the skein.
Maybe I can make a hat with it but otherwise, don’t touch me with this.
