Redwood semi-transparent oil-based stain: before and after pictures. This playset was coated twice and used 4 gallons out of a five gallon bucket. The stain is oily and wipes off metal easily; not as easy off of plastic.

The five gallons was well mixed. No noticeable separation or layering of the stain when first opened. It was still stirred before application though. Brushes, rollers, and pads were used. This stain would work well in a sprayer.

This stain seems less viscous than a solid stain. Imperfections in the wood show through this stain. The second coat gave it a consistant appearance overall. Light colored wood filler will show through this stain no matter how many coats are applied.

I would use this again only on wood that has a consistent (previously stained or bare wood) color at the start of the stain application. Power washing marks will show through this stain even with two applications.

Surfaces remained oily to the touch for many hours after the second coat was applied. Unsure how long the color will last. Good price for decent stain. 4 stars overall. This site states that the pictures were too big to upload.

I stained both sides of a more than 300 foot, four foot high cedar fence, and I could not be happier with the results. The stain was very forgiving, easy to apply, and has a uniform color despite some inconsistent application on my part.

It also dried quickly holding up to a storm 16 hours after the project was completed. I did power wash several days prior, and it being a two year old fence, I had dry wood to work with when I applied the stain.

It did come out a bit darker than the image on the can shows, though part of that is certainly from the fence being cedar to begin with, and the end product is a wonderfully rich color. This was comparatively inexpensive to other brands I considered.

I would very much like to recount my original review on Ready Seal Stain company. When we started this project we ordered redwood after doing some further research on stain colors I found that alot of people ended up with orange tints when staining their fences and this is because of the wood that the fence was used to construct it.

Some woods in their state have a yellow his to them causing the outcome to look orange. After speaking with one of the reps at Ready Seal who suggested doing the second coat in mission brown to counter out the orange we found that it worked perfect.

It’s a but Darker than we originally wanted but the orange tint is gone. And the strain looks beautiful. Sorry Ready Seal you have our business for life.

TWP is quite simply the best stain product out there. We’ve gone with it each time we need to stain our fence (around every 3 years). The stain product holds up well, penetrates well and overall is a solid product for staining just about anything.

It is an oil based stain rather than water based which helps it to penetrate the wood deeper and to hold it’s color longer.

Restored my 20 year old deck. Power washed deck first with a mild deck wash and an easy gentle spray strength being careful to not damage wood. Allowed to dry for four days. Applied TWP with a 4″ brush and an extension pole using a high quality wool brush.

Applied a fairly thick amount of stain. (it’s thin) and the wood absorbed it nicely. The process went fairly easy and the results are fantastic. Read online about contractors who loved this product and wanted to try it instead of Cabots.

Got the stain on sale at FF and they were kind enough to help me choose the right color based on the fairly limited selection. I highly recommend this prodcut.

I put Behr Semi Solid on my deck 2 years ago. The Sun tore it up and I had to refinish the entire deck. This product is OIL based and will last at least 2 years. At that point a maintenance coat can easily be put on.

This is a good oil stain product that looks great . This was a semi transparent oil stain that went on evenly soaked into the wood and didn’t clump. I am extremely pleased with this product.

I started using TWP products several years ago based on the poor results I was getting from the widely advertised well known products. I have never been disappointed with how well this stain holds up to the weather and sunlight.

In my opinion its the best stuff out there.

Installed a cedar wood fence for our backyard, after a few months we noticed to wood was starting to fade so we applied a coat of this product and our fence look new! Really happy with the results. Would definitely recommend for anyone with a cedar wood fence.

does what it says. it really is possible to nicely stain already finished wood and is easy to use.

Looking for a wood stain, I bought this in the hopes it would do a decent job replacing the specialty stain I went looking for at Home Depot (which is no longer available). I bought online and picked up in store, and I found myself intimidated by how much brighter it was in person, but knowing it could be diluted to preference, I carried on with it.

I needed a bold yellow, as we have a tv stand with bright yellow accents that we ended up needing to reinforce at the base with chunky pieces of wood (that we felt would look good in a similar yellow).

I was scared to manage the yellow myself, but working with it was actually very easy, and WOW did the piece come out beautifully! These are so much fun to use, I’m actually thinking of buying colors little by little just to have on hand.

I’m sure I can find a project somewhere lol.

It’s definitely a stain and not a paint, or actually it’s more like a dye. But as a stain, applied and wiped off, it’s wonderful. If it’s not wiped off, everything above the stained substrate can be removed with water.

This means that a coat of urethane or varnish will temporarily protect it but if water gets in through a scratch or scuff it will bloom and color will come out. (note that if you are using an acrylic i.

e. watersoluble coating, it can smear the Unicorn Spit when you are applying it, so be careful about that) Just something to keep in mind.

The pigment is really great and bright. I used it on sanded wood and diluted the color with just water drops for my taste. Undiluted the color might be pigmented enough to give an effect like paint (but I wanted to see the wood grain).

This purple has a balance between blue and red tones where I was able to warm it up with additional red pigment or leave it leaning cool as is. The color is great and the cost is great considering how powerful the pigmentation is, in my opinion.

It dries with a whitish cast like a pastel look, and I personally sealed with Exterior 450 gloss for my table and that made the color more finished, but also muted the tone and darkened the color. Just something to consider.

Prepared my American Walnut grips for my Crosman 2240. Sanded smooth and got rid of all dust. Used a small hobby brush to lace it on. Went on lovely and very easy to use. It was a little darker on one part, so I used a wet sponge and wiped it gently which lightened the colour.

Allowed to dry (few hours, but ideally overnight) applied a touch up coat, this was the result once dried. Very happy indeed! I’m also using the Tru oil, on my second coat now, so excited for when their finished.

Great wood stain rich in colour, it will give you rather cold hue of walnut ink. Good value it will last for long time. Truly recommend.

Applied per wet/wet instructions. Last fall I was quite pleased with the results of staining my deck with Defy. However when I returned from my winter home in May, I was quite shocked at how poorly it survived the winter.

Defy Extreme is a great wood stain. Butternut is a medium dark stain, similar to an aged cherry or light walnut. Following the directions for prep is important and using care in application will give you a very beautiful deck or porch!.

Every year the deck looked a mess with other stains. Put this Defy Extreme cedar color stain on my completely sanded deck last year. Cleaned and put down a second coat this year. Says I can skip staining next year.

That will be the test. So far very satisfied.

Less expensive than Ace Hardware plus free delivery vs 130 mile round trip to Ace. I have used this product for 20 years now on log home and redwood deck. Product quality is high and consistent. If you apply product thickly you will end up with longer cure times and some gummy surfaces.

This penofin product is really great. The results bring out the woods beauty. I put it over wood the had a water sealer. Even though I thoroughly sanded the fence, not all the seal was off. This causes the oil to be shinny when it covers the sealer.

Better to do it on bare wood.

It is nothing like traditional stain. First of all it is thick and purple but dries the color on the can. I can’t imagine you’d ever be able to efficiently mix colors so you’re pretty much stuck with manufacturers colors.

It also doesn’t really absorb into the wood. It’s more like paint. I’d consider it a translucent brown (or whatever color you choose) shiny paint. That might be all you want for a project but I’m thinking that if you use this on furniture and it gets chipped over time, you’re probably going to have to strip and redo the entire piece.

Touch ups look chunky and just plain bad if you’re not extremely precise. In the long run I think staining and then using poly might take more time but will also last a longer time.

First time using a stain/poly blend but it went pretty smoothly. The end result looks pretty amazing, and knowing our things are now pretty weather proof is important. It cleans up easily with soap and water, it just smells atrocious! I’m thinking it will be a week or more before we can go out on our front porch or leave that door open.

at first I hated this but after adding about four more coats it started turning out like more into my desired outcome. I did a little sanding on top but not much. this was my first time using wood stain.

its better than painting but if your not careful it’ll make a mess. I purchased a cloth from wal mart to use but later on ended up using a old sock. I think it worked much better. the smell of the wood stain isn’t overwhelming and it does dry quickly.

I was hoping for a little more reddish color but didn’t see as much come out in the wood. More like a light brown dark brown slightly red combination. Maybe it was the wood I was using or something. They do say every piece of wood reacts different to stain.

Overall pretty happy with my first stock refinish. After stripping the varnish and sanding stock. I applied 3 coats of this rusty walnut stain, followed by 5 coats of try oil, then the sheen & conditioner.

Recently finished a rifle with this stain. Looks good. Pros: Dries fast. No odor. Cons: Does not seem to color as even as oil stains. More elbow grease to get an even color. Raises the grain. The luster isn’t quite the same as oil stains.

Great product, stains a very nice vintage military red over walnut. Water based so it blends nicely as it is applied, doesnt streak. First coat doesnt look like much but the succeeding coats get very red.

Finish with tru oil.

Bought this product this morning – stirred a lot – put in a spray gun – awesome. So easy to use. Needs two coats on bare wood. Recommend to anyone – my partner used a brush for his – no brush stroke marks – I used as gun as I wanted to paint the trellis and get into the nooks and crannies.

Ronseal – does exactly what it says on the tin – brilliant. Ooo and I forgot to mention easy to clean off – its water based so no turps – and it it does try on it peals off as it seems to be some form of plasticy stuff.

Bought this recently and applied 3 coats after following instructions implicitly. The finish after dry showed light streaks all over. Now expecting a refund from the manufacturer, shame I did not check out Ronseal paint reviews where 91% give them a one star rating.

This stuff is AMAZING!!! Great product for staining cabinets! This product completely transformed my kitchen! Very high-quality stain. I love the gel consistency, as it makes it much less messy and much easier to apply smoothly and evenly without the need for wiping.

The darkness depends on how many layers you apply. It’s very important to let whatever you are staining to dry completely. If you don’t let the gel dry completely, the stain will not apply to the surface properly.

This product works well and is easy to use, even if your first time staining. I can really recommend this product. I am 100% satisfied with this product and it completely exceeded my expectations.

Was a shot in the dark for the color I wanted to have, so it came out great after 4 coats. Definitely need to be sure there are NO GLUE residues or anything like that and best to fine sand before. I did a small bathroom floor so it is fine.
