20 Best Wood For Subwoofer Box (2023 Updated)

need an enclosure for my 6×9 speakers. The application is for my motor home. after some time I found these units on the web. I purchased four (4) sight unseen. wow was I pleased when I got the product.

They were well packaged for shipping and quick delivery. There were great connections with hookups not requiring tools a big plus. The units were all covered in a nice textured black high quality cloth and exceeded my expections.

I would purchase this product again.

I bought angled 6×9 boxes for my regular cab ’88 Ford pickup, forgetting that angled boxes require adjusting the seat forward. Driving the truck around and shifting gears turned into a chore, (I’m 6’4″) but I didn’t want to give up my 6×9’s.

I started shopping and found these Deejayled boxes, and thought, “no way they’re that shallow. ” Measurements were taken, my chin was scratched, and I decided to risk it. A few days later the boxes arrived, neatly packed and ready to install.

I sat one of these Deejayled on top of the angled box, and they really are that shallow. In fact, they’re almost half the depth of the angled boxes I wanted to replace. I pulled my 6×9’s (Kicker DSC6930’s) out of the angled boxes, and sat one in the new box, afraid it wouldn’t fit.

It fit perfectly. A little wire cutting and splicing later, and the 6×9’s were tucked safely away in their new boxes, and the real test began. I sat them in their place behind the seat. I climbed in the truck, reached down, and eased the seat back, and back it went.

No more sacrificed leg room, the seat went as far back as possible, AND I was able to keep my 6×9’s! Long story real short: If you want to save the leg room in your regular cab pickup AND have 6×9’s behind the seat, buy these boxes!.

These boxes are good for certain applications for space conservation. They look nice and seemed to be made of decent quality materials but the sound is average at best and in order to get full sound from 6 by 9 speakers rear deck mounting is best.

Sounds super with the q power subs for sure!! I put two of these boxes in my girls suv and a 6000 watt amp and it meters 149. 7db!! I couldnt believe it! I have $7k in mine and Im 153db!! We have like $1000 in hers! She loves it so much! Shes always pounding around town now! P.

S it kept her off my back about all the audio stuff Ive been buying!! For cheap!.

Kuu Box … made good but not put together to well . Needs more attention on sealing it . More staples and chaulking to hold it firmer . Bigger gauge power sockets would be great too …

Just the right size. Wish is wasn’t coated with a hard prickly coating. I use these inside car on the floor. Couldn’t find any single 6 1/2′ speaker boxes without the rough coating. Also, the boxes limit the highs and greatly increase the bass.

I tried some 3-way speakers in place of the 2-way speakers, but that didn’t work. So I solved that problem by drilling two 1 1/2″ holes on each side of boxes. The sound is much better now.

No cons. All pros. Can not beat these boxes at this price. Better than I was expecting. Solid as a rock. Unbreakable with any use. The rough bed-liner coating keeps them in place on my boats carpeting.

Waterproof cases with waterproof speakers can’t be beat.

Made really well. I like the thick coating. I will need to make the opening a little larger for the RF speakers but I knew that was possibly going to happen. Crazy fast free shipping! I will recommend to all my friends.

the box itself is easy to put together and looks nice but my only issue is the supplied speaker wire is way too thin and the terminals for the speaker wire is not as pictured. it came with the cheap plastic spring loaded type which almost didn’t fit my speaker wire size coming from my amp.

inside the box the supplied wire is super thin and soldered in which makes it impossible to remove and install a higher quality speaker wire in its place without having to rig something up. that small wire ends up limiting ur setup if ur pushing anything over 200watts rms.

Great construction, cuts are almost perfect. the one thing i did different was that i’ve built multiple High end Boxes, but i needed this quick just to use the subwoofer. i knew the foam was likely to leak and not seal as well as i would hope to.

so all i did was buy a container of wood glue, took off all foam and instead put glue in the seams. also i caulked the inside of the subwoofer. no leaks and tight bass. for the price and ease of assembly i was surprised how well it came together, a little thin for the size of the sub, minimum i would use is 3/4.

but overall awesome.

Love this product. Is good for ‘wee’ subs or modular woofer enclosures. I would only mention that, as a matter of general gluing, to be aware that while the glue is getting clamped, it may want to let your pieces wander, so while you’re clamping in one direction, watch the pieces to check that they’re not sliding perpendicular to the direction of the clamping force.

If you have enough clamps (and access) to clamp them carefully in all directions, that’s nice. I found that ‘pre-screwing’ it together first, while verifying alignment to ‘set’ the holes, taking it apart, and then ‘screwing and gluing’ together works well for me.

Takes a little more time, but not horrible. I MUCH prefer having the panels cut for me with routing that snugs the panels in to place for easy assembly. I only wish they had more dimensional/size options.

I’m using this box as a sub box for a 6. 5in TB sub (#264-919). Fit was nice as these boxes usually are. You will need to do some sanding and filling to get it perfectly smooth. I opted to just cover it instead of painting.

So prep was straight-forward as I didn’t need any sealer. The amp, (#300-784) was installed and the port I used, (#268-248) along with the sub all fit perfect with the right internal volume I was looking for.

I’m using this as my computer system sub box. Its small size is perfect and sounds amazing considering the size.

I bought two of these that arrived last week. The partial board is heavy, the flimsy box it was shipped in did not have a chance. The box was trashed to the point that the partial board pieces inside were falling out.

The corners of the partial board were crushed. Parts Express you can do better than this.

Well I waited a good 8 days and the box arrived and this is the review that is the one you need to read because its the most accurate. 2 problems with this box that made me give it a 4 stars!!! Ok the box is built well and for 45 $ its a deal that needs some self tweaking.

First off if you have a strong subwoofer, Id say more then 600 RMS just like the other review I read, the box wont handle it for tooo long ! Second issue , the cutout is to small for a 12. One side fits flush and the other side sticks out about a quarter of an inch.

I mean what happens now do I start shaving one side for my sub to fit flush. Dont they have the right cutout circumference at Beluva factory ??? Im sorry 3 stars Im running 800 watts RMS 1 pioneer 12 inch subwoofer and pioneer mono-block amp.

I used this box as a replacement for a custom sealed box I had built 1 for each of my Bluapunkt carbon fiber subs. Well packed with corner bracing helped the box arrive undamaged. The box itself is sturdy with 3/4in MDF and clean cut edges.

The hardware is good quality and holds the wire with a sturdy grip. The carpet is glued down well with no loose ends. The only issue I have with this box is that the speaker opening is cut slightly off center and gets very close to one wall.

I had to cut the opening bigger for my Blaupunkt Comp 12in Sub, which I knew that I would have to, and that is where the off center speaker opening became an issue.

I just purchased my fourth unit of this type, and I recommend it highly. AudioSnobs will turn their noses at this box, as it would require a driver with either a low Vas, Fs, or Qts, or all of the above, to give flat response with this box.

There’s one problem with that; few, if any of the people that I personally know, like their bass response flat, unless the source material has a massive peak in the 38-53 Hz range. The truth is, this box ends up sounding very good with a driver needing more room for a couple of reasons.

First, it is tuned to about 44 Hz, which is at right about the fundamental note of a bass guitar, and many synthesized low freq percussion instruments. Secondly, that frequency corresponds decently to the mastering done on large percentage of the bass material in today’s music.

It is sheer folly to brag about a box that hits 20 Hz, as 99. 999% of the music that is mastered for consumer listening today, has absolutely zero program material at that frequency. This is not a conspiracy by audio engineers; they know that cone excursions go wild at the extreme low registers, and have no desire to either waste your amplifier power, or to destroy your woofers, by artificially pumping up the signal where it does little good.

Third, the peak produced at around that frequency by the smallish size, is consistent with what a large percentage of listeners would consider desirable in their music. Flat bass is often described as anemic by many listeners, who might be surprised to discover that they actually enjoy a bit of accentuation at, or around the frequency mentioned.

Last but not least, because the tuning frequency coincides with the mentioned range, the box actually ends up having decent control on the driver’s cone at high input powers. Hemholtz resonance, if even attainable, occurs over a very narrow range, and the range on this box seems to agree nicely with much of today’s music.

Obviously, I wouldn’t recommend pumping signal from infra-bass rap tunes that have been rendered low-frequency psychotic by an Epicenter through this box, but failing that, you might be surprised how well this little thing works, on most 12-inch drivers.

I bought this single 12″ slot ported sub box on sale for only $37. 60. I used it for a custom made powered subwoofer that I built for playing music in my small bedroom. The box is sealed up nice, but there is no internal bracing.

The box is also tuned pretty high at 53Hz. Not bad for punchy response but I wanted to hit the low frequencies. So I had to modify the slot port & reduce it to 5″ wide to get it down to the 35Hz I was shooting for.

I like the jet black carpet instead of the normal grey color carpet that is usually found on these types of pre-finished sub boxes. Make sure to drill pilot holes for the subwoofer or you will crack & break the MDF board when mounting the subwoofer into the box.

I would have prefered a 5-way binding post speaker terminal over the spring terminal that comes on the box. For the price I payed for this sub box I can’t complain one bit. It worked great for me & is well worth the money.

Save yourself some money and build a single 12′ settup with this sub box.

This is it, if you need a single 12 sealed box, this is absolutely the one you want. I’ve had it for 3 years now, maybe going on 4, never thought to review it ’till now. Mine has been in two vehicles and sat idle for a year while between vehicles.

It is still in excellent condition! I’ve had boxes where cheaper upholstery started wearing badly, but as you can tell from the pictures this is very high quality upholstery and is barely worn in 3 years.

That’s amazing, and I’m rough on gear. It has only housed 1 Infinity Reference 12″ (the older super high wattage, high sensitivity model). This pairing sounds incredible for all music types, and especially for in-car movies.

The added polyfill batting is perfect, since 1sqft is pushing the lower limit of air space for a heavy duty subwoofer. Polyfill slows down some of the soundwaves and air spring, making it behave like a larger box.

Check the specs for your sub carefully, I added a tiny bit more loose batting. It sounds very tight, clean, and clear compared to the old school notion that 12’s are sloppy or muddy. It is plenty boomy for rap but also performs tightly for techno, jazz.

The box is heavier (unloaded) than it looks, you might be surprised. I attached two rectangles of the industrial strength Velcro, just the ‘hook’side, to a couple places on the bottom. This plus the weight will keep it very firmly in place wherever you place it.

The wood is very thick and solid, not like the cheapo MDF. It could probably handle a Sundown competition sub. This model has a recessed lip on the two sides, as you can see from the pictures, and I thought I would hate that but it really does help when moving it.

The only downside at all is that lip does collect dirt but the whole thing cleans easy. A helpful trick to cleaning these trappy upholstered boxes is to vacuum with a brush attachment and then to go over it with one of those lint rollers.

If somehow I ever manage to wear out this sub box, I’ll buy this exact one again.

I acquired a new sub that called for 1 cubic foot sealed box and polyester lining. I thought of building my own box but the mdf sheet would cost me $37 plus tax. So I thought why not just buy a box. After scrolling through endless boxes, I saw this one with almost all the right specs.

Only thing off was the subwoofer cutout. To remedy that, I used my router to remove just a bit and done. Thick 3/4 inch mdf, solid black carpet, screw terminals, and tiny size. It is the perfect size for limited space.

The sub lodged in there is an Phoenix Gold Xenon 12″. It sounds just right for what I wanted it. Performance for a broad range of music is what I was aiming for, and this box delivered. Thank you Belva for a great product.

I received the sub box in perfect condition. Quality is great, surprising cost. The only “problem” was that it didn’t have a speaker terminal cup. An adjustment in price was refunded to me by Walmart.

It was enough to pay for the speaker terminal cup I ordered online.

Solid construction, designed for performance. I have a Planet Audio AC12D subwoofer, (nothing too fancy) and after placing it in this enclosure, the bass has increased substantially! Nice deep low frequencies annunciated with very little to no resonance, with the port design being factored in from the performance perspective.

Price is also beyond reasonable for anyone wanting to add some bass to their vehicle!.

I took my Polk sub out of my sealed enclosure and popped it in this guy, holy moly! Didn’t know this awesome box would squeeze that kind of bass out of my sub. Decent quality, but stinky! Worth every penny.

These are good FOR THE MONEY. The particle board is fairly soft, so you have to absolutely make SURE you get your speaker centered and get all the screw holes drilled with as big a wood margin around them as possible.

Don’t drill the holes too big and don’t over-tighten the screws. I mounted a pair of fairly high-end Polk coaxials in them and there is essentially NO bass output at all. I mean, ZERO bass. So plan on using these with a subwoofer.

These are functional if you are very careful when mounting your speakers. You get what you pay for. But, like I said, I do think these are pretty good for the very low price you pay for them.

After searching for a angled 6. 5 round enclosure box, I found these. Well designed and very nicely made. Price is reasonable for what they are. Very nice speaker connects as well. Be it known that cabinets are made of MDF not ply or wood.

Under size drill bit for mount screws and don’t over tighten them. MDF is softer than wood and screws strip easily. Only suggestion I would make is to add some Poly-Fill to interior of boxes for sound dampening.

Not a biggy! They also come with logo plate attached that some may or may not like. Thanks, Jim.

The build quality of these is impressive. The panels for together perfectly. The carpeting is done very well, no loose spots or gaps. The terminal cup is solid and installed nicely. There is plenty of wire provided which is already tinned! If I have to nitpick something it’s the gaudy brand label that is hot glued to the surface.

Boo. Overall I’m extremely pleased with this set, just blown away at the quality for the price shipped.

The cabinet is solid and the electrical connections are great. I would like to have already had a handle installed since with a sub installed the unit weighs 40 lbs. I was able to find a decent handle at the hardware store.

My only real disappointment is where the carpet edges are glued together. They are cut and glued such that multiple points come together on the side and the points are already lifting up making it easy to see the separate pieces.

I bought 2 of these boxes 2 years ago to use with JL Audio W1v2-4 12″ woofers behind the seat in my old 1976 Ford truck. They are of solid construction with sealed joints. The binding posts are high quality.

After hard hitting bass for 2 years, the boxes are still airtight and solid. I just bought 2 more for my son to put his JL Audio W1v2-4 12″ woofers in his Trans-Am. I would highly recommend these boxes.

I would highly recommend this product. It was a gift for my husband who loves his music loud. He loves it other than the little damage in one of the corners which we assume happened during shipping/delivery.

Price is reasonable and lives up to its description.

This box deliveres no doubt about it! Well built, carpet is of good quality, looks good! There isnt a better box for the money, will be ordering another, and definitely recommend this box, to anyone looking for some serious deep bass!.

It’s a FANTASTIC sub box for the money! Even at twice the price, I think it’d be a great deal! It is built incredibly well and is detailed nicely. The SKAR embroidery below the speaker terminals is a really nice touch.

I kinda went against the grain and installed a 10″ Hertz sub in her, but it fits like a glove after a few professional mods. I’m a skilled tradesman with more than 35 years experience, so my advice is to you would be to get the one made specifically for your sub.

The folks at SKAR were so helpful, they even offered to include a return label just in case my sub wouldn’t fit (PRIOR to any modifications, of course), but THAT’S what “customer service” is all about and the folks at SKAR are very customer centric!.

READ MORE THAN THE FIRST LINE. I have never been a big fan of prefab enclosures. Here is where I eat my words. I was 100% surprised and amazed by this enclosures. Let me set the stage. I was in a hurry getting my e34 540i back together and was wanting a little bass before I went on a four and a half hour ride.

So I ordered the SDR-10 D4 wired to 2 ohm and be powered by my old memphis pr1000. 1. I must give credit where it is due. I can say, I am very very happy with my phrchase.

It’s ok for a prefab. It’s MDF like most are single baffle and it doesn’t have any insert- nuts. (Most prefabs dont. I just feel like if you want to be different and be better. ) I put my 12″ EVL D4 in it and honestly I was a lil disappointed.

First thing I noticed was port noise! It’s a kerft ported enclosure which is ment to reduce chuffing as much as possible. Secondly I could feel a small amount of air leaking from the back of the enclosure.

I’m assuming from a seam but not totally sure though because I didnt rip off the carpet to find out. Third and lastly it seemed to me (from the sound) to small of an enclosure for the EVL. Even though on the website it says the are “compatible”.

It definitely looks nice. Maybe for a lil bit smaller of a subwoofer it would be fine. Well that’s my input hope it helps.

I bought this subwoofer enclosure to try out a sealed design for my home audio set up. I like the jet black carpet instead of the normal grey color that pre-made enclosures like this usually have installed on them.

It came with a nice quality 5-way binding post speaker terminal instead of a spring terminal which saved me a few dollars, being thats what I was going to use on it anyway to use banana plugs on it. The joints were all glued excellent & was sealed tight without any leaks.

For the price I payed for this sealed 1. 25 cu. ft. enclosure on sale for only $33. 60, it was well worth the cost. I used a Lanzar – MAX 12, 12″ single voice coil Subwoofer, ruffly 12 oz. ‘s of Poly-Fil – Polyester Fiber Fill Stuffing for inside the subwoofer enclosure, (4) Penn Elcom – F1686 1.

5″ Diameter x 0. 525″ Thick Rubber Cabinet Feet to keep it from creeping around my floor & stay in place, & power it with a Dayton Audio – SPA250 250-watt Subwoofer Plate Amplifier that I mounted to my stereo entertainment cabinet so I can use the amp on any subwoofer I make & not be stuck mounted on just a single enclosure.

The outcome was pretty decent for music & movies, I wanted a fast & punchy bass response from this subwoofer project & it worked out just fine. Now I have two powered subwoofers, one 12″ that is a sealed design & one 12″ slot ported design tuned to 30Hz to hit lower frequencies that I can simply choose between the two by just plugging in one or the other by using banana plugs for a fast swap out using my subwoofer plate amplifier.

I am happy with my purchase of this 1. 25 cu. ft. sealed subwoofer enclosure & would recommend it to anyone who wants a good quality, well built small sealed subwoofer enclosure. Its well worth the money that Parts Express sells it for without any doubt.

My enclosure showed up quickly for the basic shipping and I got it at the 32 dollar price. This box is a steal at even the current price but to get this and a driver for just over 100 bucks is impossible locally.

The box is 5/8″ and was sealed very well from the factory. The front baffle seems to be a bit thicker than the rest of the box. The enclosure carpet was very nice and a strong glue was used to make it a very well made product considering the price.

I found this box to be very similar to the box from walmart but has a much better build quality at the same price. The binding post is gold screw down type with holes in the post for banana or bare wire.

Its a bit difficult to tighten down the post since they are so close and small but these are a big step up from simple spring terminals. I added 12oz of poly fill, speaker gasket tape, 14 gauge wire, and 8 screws to complete the install.

The driver I chose was the BravoX 12 EXS12D-2 Extreme Duty 12″ DVC. The dimensions of the box was perfect for this sub in a sealed enclosure. The BravoX called for this exact cubic feet sealed. I only needed to use a file to make the opening a bit larger and removed about an 1/8″ of material to get the sub to drop in.

I would buy this enclosure again and have the ported version in my garage for driver testing and hobby use.

I ordered 4 more of these and this time, all 4 were packed in a much more sturdy box than my prev. order, and all 4 arrived in good shape. These have the gold binding posts while other GW models I’ve tried did not, and these seem to be free of glue on the carpet, and other cosmetic problems.

Suggestions for users: If you are running high power, add glue blocks along all interior corners, and use insert nuts for the driver mounting. If you want a really good seal, coat all inside surfaces with a sealer.

This includes the I. D. of the baffle and terminal holes. Caulk the corners well, too (a good 35 year caulk will do. ) Carefully remove 1/8″ of carpet around the holes and replace with strip caulk or gasketing tape, such as is available from PE.

(Carpet as a gasket, and MDF / particle board, are slightly porous. )Now the big question is: Were these old stock or new stock?.

The PE knock-down boxes are really a very good product. Easy to assemble and really quite well designed. Add a little vibration damping material to the insides like Dynamat and you are all set! I finished mine with 5 coats of Duratex and it loks awesome!.

Units came well packaged. No instructions but it took just seconds to figure out how the parts went together. I used Elmers Professional Wood Glue to assemble the boxes along with drilling and adding some screws for added strength.

I also added a few 1″x1″x 12″ hardwood strips for corner bracing internally. After the front baffle assemble was glued and clamped together, dried and installed, I then routed out the speaker cutouts.

Next was drilling out the 3″ hole for the connector cups on the back and installing the cups. After measuring the location for drilling the holes for the T-nuts, I installed the T-nuts and foam seal.

I packed the boxes with polyfill from a large king sized firm polyfill pillow (I like them because it gives me a measured quantity of polyfill) and Installed my NHT-1259’s into the boxes. The system sounds great.

The enclosures are solid weighing in at about 55-60 lbs fully assembled. I will be ordering 4 more for the other set of drivers I have. All 6 will be used in my theater. Photo is pre-finish. These will be painted Piano Black when completed.

I bought this for a TC Sounds Epic12, quite a strong air pump, because it had internal braces that looked good for making a strong box. It glued together and was square. I woodwork and liked the rabbeted front edges.

I modified the box a lot but think that Cascade VB-1S PRO Quiet Kote Acoustic Damping Spray inside and formica outside with Dayton Audio DRFS1 1-3/8″ x 1″ Heavy Duty Rubber Feet will be good for most builds.

Use a gizmo to cut a round hole!I read someone’s Epic 12 comments and will keep the amp outside away on a cabinet door in the stereo rack. I am using Neutrik connectors. I’ll report the final results after the completed fine wood case is added.
