16 Best Wood For Kitchen Floors (2023 Updated)

Had this flooring professionally installed in one room. I can’t yet speak to its durability or long term performance, but so far it looks nice. The planks are thin, much thinner than the engineered hardwood flooring I have in other parts of my house.

I finally got my floor that I have been looking for since last year. They match perfectly to what I have through out my home.

CaliBamboo Customer service is very helpful and was able to assist me in finding a floor i loved. I am very happy with the purchase. I’ve had the install for a couple months. I have notice a couple light scratches here and there but these floors very durable.

I’ve dropped metal tools (nothing very heavy) and didnt see any damage. I’d say my only complaint has more to due with the process of getting the floors and getting the floors installed. They referred me to a company called Installation made easy which paired me up with a local company.

The local company made a few mistakes early in the process but was able to correct them and ultimately did a great job. One of the issues is I wish there was a better way for the two(three if you include IME) to communicate for materials and such.

I ended up having to go with quarter rounds and transition pieces that look similar but not the same as my bamboo to complete the install. Another thing is Id have liked to have suggested to me to have the materials shipped to the installer instead of my location as I ended up having to carry all the boxes with myself and a friend and.

it was quite a days work since each box weighed around 50 lbs. ! ouch Aside from those issues, the project came out great. The floor itself looks really good and I’m very happy with the results.

Overall a good product. However double check the flooring you want to place on. For eg. If you have uneven or unpolished concrete it won’t stick. Also it won’t stick on glossy tiles. Some tiles are more stickier then others.

Some have scratches on them.

I stuck these over my old bathroom vinyl tiles and they went down really well. I could cut them with large scissors so it was easy to fit around pipes and the toilet. There are four different designs of planks, so if you do half the other way round, then you have eight different wood patterns.

This helps it look more like a real wood floor. Obviously it doesnt feel like real wood as its completely smooth.

I love this flooring. I originally bought this to makeover a floor in the spare bedroom after my cat had ripped the carpet to shreds. It was so easy to lay and can even be cut with a scissors. After laying it in bedroom I decided to lay the spare in my porch and hallway and then went into the kitchen.

My friends who have seen this have also bought some for their homes. Price is very reasonable and quality is excellent.

Let me start by saying that the flooring is great. It looks great and the installer recommended by Cali was excellent. The job went off without a hitch, and it looks great. The delivery is to the curb and needs to rest in the house a few days before install.

If you have a pallet jack handy, you are all set. If not, you are still on your own to get the boxes of flooring from the curb to the house. Do not expect any assistance from the delivery company.

Don’t use floor adhesive with this product. In one room I used adhesive and flooring would slip out of its locking design and had multiple gaps as a result. In another room did not use adhesive and stayed locked together.

I was nervous about buying 900sf of flooring online though I had ordered several samples whose quality I was impressed by. I’ve had this glued installation for master bedroom, foyer, dining rm living rm, powder rm for about 5 wks now loving the lightness of the warm blonde & gray tones.

The distressed wire brushed texture varies board to board some more, others less with a low satiny sheen. It feels awesome under bare feet. Overall very pleased with the floor!.

I’d use them again! Got great quality hardwood for the best price on the market! Was nervous to buy it online but they right away sent 4 more samples to see the consistency which helped make our decision.

They also accepted our extra boxes with a full return minus shipping. We are super satisfied and happy with their customer service! We’d use them again for sure and already have recommended BuildDirect to friends and family.

Service and support was absolutely amazing, followed up all the way through. Better than local flooring places. Floor is beautiful and installers did very well with it. It is red oak under the light finish and if scratched (it did), it does show red.

Already received multiple complements on the floor. The color, texture and the fact it’s waterproof made it the ideal choice for a beach house remodel. It’s not as scratch resistant as the solid bamboo floors, and moving heavy objects across it might leave a mark if done without care, but the dog that refuses nail trims has been doing his usual dances on it without leaving a trace.

Can’t wait to try out another style for the next project.

We had this flooring installed not too long ago. We love the color and the destressed look of the floor. I know that some people do not like to see knots or destressing, it looks like real wood not like laminate, but we love it and we love the wide plank.

Looking forward to enjoying the floor for many years.

Initially I received a bunch of boxes with pre-damaged flooring planks, that predominantly being smashed corners and also deep scratches in the planks. The certified flooring Techs from Halifax Flooring kept throwing out bad pieces and showing me the damage right from the box.

This was extremely concerning & frustrating. I would have given y’all a zero star as of then, maybe even a kick in the trousers. Ryan with Cali Bamboo addressed these frustrating concerns and went above and beyond in fixing these QA problems with the damaged product, and found a suitable remedy for the frustration, damages, and shorted inventory to finish the job.

I think y’all need to give Ryan a nice pat on the back, perhaps even a nice bonus or promotion as a merci beaucoup for keeping the customer very happy in a difficult situation. Attah boi Ryan, job well done!! With these dilemmas being addressed properly and consequently pushed out of mind, overall the Cali Geowood is a very beautiful product indeed.

Very lovely flooring with the unbeatable natural look and solid well built density easily outdoing any synthesized pseudo LVP fake patterns any day of the darn week. Room for improvement: I would have imagined the finishing oxide coat to be more scratch resistant to be completely honest.

The floor does scratch much easier than expected. With that being said, finding a way to increase a resin seal of this lovely product with an even stronger finish would make this a world class piece.

I am general contractor who overall loves CALI BAMBOO flooring materials but I am doing a home right now where I’m in process of doing every room in house except the bathrooms and bedrooms. I have completed the large den almost 300 sq.

ft. and I have to say this aged amber geowood floor is the worst I’ve ever touched and installed from cali bamboo. I have had several pieces damaged from opening box for starters but that another story as far as a installers stand point it has been nothing but slow to work with and is not flexible in anyway shape or form ( installers no what I mean ).

It scratches so easily it is straight up nerve racking. I am a contractor who typically really enjoys all the cali bamboo flooring project I do BUT SO FAR not one minute have I with this flooring. It does not go together that easily first of all, then you got the whole scratching process to deal with throughout the job, then as far as when your cutting out the door jamb’s and casing trim for flooring to slide underneath and then having to lock it together NOT SO MUCH ( ROUGH ).

I have taken a break from this project for almost two months now due to other reasons once the Den was completely finished then home owner had some things come up as did I but were both on same page and im getting ready to start back there very soon to install the living room,kitchen,pantry,family room and some closets and I have to say im not looking forward to it at all.

I have so many sample pieces of Cali Bamboo flooring that I share with my customers and help them along in the picking out process and as of right now I will be removing this Oak and Bamboo Geowood flooring out of my sample box.

We had GeoWood bamboo floors installed a year ago in Anchorage, Alaska where we have no climate control during the summers (temps got over 90F last summer) and radiant heat during the winter which dries the house out considerably.

Even so, the flooring has held up beautifully. We have 3 kids and a Labrador retriever who are all hard on floors. There have been no scratches due to claws, and toys, dishes and appliances have been dropped many times and very little scratching.

Any scratches are quickly and seemingly permanently hidden with a little Old English. Our installer had never used GeoWood or any Cali product and said we needed to write a review to let people know how easy the installation was, especially relative to other floating floors he had installed.

Do be careful of water damage. We chose GeoWood for its water resistance, but it isn’t totally waterproof. We had it installed throughout the kitchen and one spot where I have a floor mat got moisture under the mat that sat for a couple of days and there is a little bit of lightening of the wood on the seam of two of the planks where water penetrated.

But if you didn’t know it was there you wouldn’t notice. After a full year of everyday wear and tear, kids coming in and out from snow and ice and no special “babying” of the floors they still look like new.

We would recommend GeoWood bamboo floors to anyone looking for a beautiful, durable wood floor.

Let me start of by saying these floors look absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, if you so much as stare too long at this floor it will ding and scratch. This wood is very soft and will dent if you drop anything on it (even from a foot off the ground).

If you have pets do not get this floor. We’ve had to purchase large rugs in every room to cover up these great looking floors.

This teak flooring is amazing! Love that it is 5″ wide. When installed, your eye does not notice the “seems” of the flooring and instead focuses on the visual texture in the color variations. We Love the color variations! We picked it up from a local warehouse, utilizing the cost saving shipping method BuildDirect offers.

This may have been our only issue thus far. We were scheduled to pick this item up on a day of cold pouring rain in WI. The pallets were nicely wrapped in plastic, but we did have to break one pallet down to fit our trailer and the guys at the local warehouse were very helpful and loaded the pallets as best they could on our trailer, with their forklifts.

(I should mention the shipper BuildDirect would have provided would not make the delivery on our road, as it is a narrow road with no turn around available for them. Which we understood, as we have lived in our residence for more than 10 years so it wasn’t really a surprise to us.

) We just completed the install of 2 rooms in our home. There is next to no waste, and we had 6 doorways to contend with for our first attempt at flooring. We have not had one piece “damaged” that we have had to place in a scrap pile to use as a salvage piece.

We have utilized EVERY single piece in our shipment so far. We believe this HARD hardwood flooring was worth every penny, and probably should have cost WAY more had we purchased it from a local flooring center.

We liked that it was pre-finished and were able to move the furniture back into our rooms upon completion. We would buy this product again, but we bought enough to complete our ENTIRE house with this purchase.

We saved thousands of dollars!.

This flooring has completely transformed my home! My customer service rep Mila Quinn was awesome. The samples I received sealed my choice for this selection. This was a 1 day installation for my entire first floor.

This flooring is just FANTASTIC. I put the Baylis high density underlayment down as a vapor barrier/sound/cushion and it went great. Used a double glue down installation for thresholds and boards near wall and a 1 1/2″ 15.

5 gauge staple elsewhere with a Bostich pneumatic stapler. The BuilDirect team send me a total of (4) separate additional orders on time to complete this job. I ended up buying 30 boxes and used 29. 5 for 950 sq ft.

My buddy who does hardwood floors for a living LOVED the product. I called several times to double check underlayment, glue type, staple size, etc. EVERY person I spoke with was knowledgeable, answered my questions, and set my mind at ease.

They got a customer for life with their service.

Yes, not quite so dark and lots of variability in the pieces which I liked. Install went well in two bedrooms. Very good quality, no complaints of board not fitting together well, picked because it was close in color to the solid acacia we wanted for another bedroom, not disappointed.

It shows the true character of this wood type.

The flooring is beautiful. My installers said it went together well and was a “top notch” product. I expected some waste or bad pieces and didn’t have any waste. In fact I have 2 extra boxes, this is an excellent product.

We installed our floors in Nov/Dec 2018 and still love them. (Writing this in Sept 2021. ) The color is gorgeous. When first installed, they had a kind of waxy coating that looked smudged as soon as anyone walked on them with bare feet.

Over the course of 4-5 months of regular use and cleaning, that went away. For cleaning we have only ever used a damp cloth. (We use a “Sh-Mop” which is a flat head with a cotton terry cloth cover. It works great.

) The wax was also an signification factor/issue in installation. About half of the planks required manually scraping extra wax out of the grooves so that they would snap together properly. The floors do chip/dent/scratch and we have quite a few places–mainly in the kitchen, but they are not really noticeable.

I noticed the review opportunity when looking for ideas to repair some chips. We are generally careful to clean up spills promptly but there are always little splashes in a heavily used kitchen, but with the exception of one chipped spot, we have seen no evidence of water damage even around the sink or fridge which get the most wet.

One of our larger chips is near the dishwasher and that one has been impacted. We should have tried to repair it sooner, as it has gotten worse. I’ve included a photo of it as the moisture has caused the surface to start to lift.

Other chips in the house do not have this issue. Our main word of warning is for people installing over radiant heat. We have a concrete slab with radiant heat. We brought the newly purchased flooring inside, opened the packing and let it acclimate for recommended time (it was Nov and we are in the Pacific Northwest, so our heated floors were ON.

) The floors were installed with the recommended gap from the wall to allow for expansion/contraction. Over the next several years, what we have found is that the floors continually SHRINK. They contracted and shrunk A LOT.

We have had to remove baseboards and add flooring in MANY MANY MANY places throughout the house. Even some of the places where we added wood have shrunk more. We are not sure if it’s the radiant floors as they do not expand in the summer when the concrete underneath is much cooler.

It may be they are just continually more dried out than in a normal house. However, if we were doing it again, we would install with a very very small expansion gap at the edges. The noticable shrinkage has continued over YEARS so just letting them acclimate a couple of weeks longer than recommended would not have done the trick.

I bought five cartons of Fossilized Mocha Bamboo Engineered wide click flooring from Lowe’s. I just got done laying it and it is quite beautiful. Be aware that if you buy the flooring from Lowe’s you can expect zero help from Cali Bamboo.

I got ghosted on email queries to customer support. No one returned telephone messages that I left. There were very long waits for online chats and they almost always ended abruptly once I made it know that I purchased my flooring at Lowe’s.

A beautiful floor, but very disappointing customer service and support.

Ty at Cali Bamboo was a great help in selecting the proper floor and getting it delivered when I wanted it. Pricing was comparable to the big box stores with the added bonus of being able to talk to someone who knows their product and can provide a wealth of information and assistance as you order your floor.

I ordered an engineered bamboo floor. It came shrink wrapped and in excellent condition. Ty provided details on taking care of any shipping damage, fortunately there was none. The floor itself is an excellent product.

It went down easily and looks fantastic. This is the fifth click together floor I have put down, the other 4 were laminates. I’d tell anyone to consider this if you are looking at laminates. It is much better engineered and looks real because it is real wood.

I read all the reviews and was a little worried about inconsistancies in the wood thickness and widths. I was also worried about waste due to flaws. I purchased 1300sqft, that gave me some extra. well, I have put down the floor and could not be happier.

I probably had three boards total that had some kind of flaw, one was a flaw in the finish and two were broken tongues. I was able to use these boards in closets. The floor looks amazing. I could not be happier.

Advice: take your time figuring out layout and your waste will be very little. Also, keep in mind that this is wood, which grows wild. It will have small variations. If you want exact widths and thickness down to the millimeter, you should probably go with laminate or unfinished wood that can be sanded.

I took A LOT of time to research wood floors versus the other options, such as laminates. Since I have fairly large size dogs and two young kids I was concerned about the wear and tear. After taking wood samples from many places, I noticed Pergo laminates and the hickory from LL both held up well when we did a little hitting with a mallet test.

Pergo looks fake to me however, and doesn’t add as much resale value to the home if I ever sell, so I went with the hickory. I was kind of worried about the color variance in the wood, but now that the project is completed I am thrilled with the look! It is holding up well so far, but can’t say the dogs haven’t added a few scratches here and there.

Plus, I have had to make sure to put pads under my furniture, as that certainly scratches the floor, but overall you can’t see any real damage unless you look really close. Plus this floor can be sanded numerous times, so I feel like that adds a lot of piece of mind to my investment.

Overall, it’s truly a beautiful floor and I was very happy with the staff at LL North Hills. They really know their stuff and were very helpful!!.

I love this flooring. It is beautiful. We put it in our front living room 16+ years ago and I still get compliments on how bestir looks. We had an appraisal done and he could not believe the shape the floor was being that many years old.

We just put the same floor in our dining room. Love it!.

Had this floor installed in Family Room to replace Stainmaster Carpeting from Lowes. Wanted dog proof flooring. So far, this Timbercraft has stood up to many things (dog related). The only disappointed is the Valley Grove looks nothing like the samples shown on the wall at Lowes.

Much darker and covered everywhere with dark brown knots and spots. Want to refloor rest of house but don’t want to choose same color. Don’t know which color comes without all those dark spots, if ahy, and now will not match family room.

I’m well into it now, so it’s going in our whole house, we’re selling turns out anyways. The step block for knocking chips up the edges if pieces are tough to get tongue and grooved smoothly, I’ve got a bit of curled edge some I got irritated and just decided to burn the piece and use what I could as an end piece on other side of room, and what’s underneath its top layer, recycled compressed cardboard? It’s so expensive but I feel it’s very cheap.

I’m a union new construction plumber. I’m no carpenter but when people come over they ask what carpenter did our install. makes me feel good, direct impact? It’s more durable than I expected. I’m about to do our stairs next 14 stairs 1200$.

just materials. 3000 total for someone to install. ya no thanks I’ll do it.

I have put in 3 other laminate floors through out the years, this is the hardest to put together by far! It doesn’t want to lock and snap together. It physically takes lots of strength to get it together.

Once you got it together it wouldn’t stay locked in place. It’s a beautiful floor by far though! What should have taken one day to install in the past has taken 8 days! I bought this because of the wet protect and I am not sure how well that will work when some of it won’t stay clicked together.

This is a beautiful color, it just needs to be made easier to install. At first I thought it was just us so I hired more help and that felt the same as me. It won’t click and lock well.
