20 Best Wood For Chopping Board (2023 Updated)

I purchased this directly from Shun/Kai when on sale. They explain the strong foresty/piney odor (I call it aroma) that is part of hinoki wood, and I like the smell, although it is fading. I got the medium for cutting vegetables, the size is convenient for that.

The board is light, a bit thin, but hasn’t warped, and I wash it and dry it immediately, as I do the knives, leaving it out to air dry completely. I wet it as suggested prior to use, and have only slight staining.

They say it does not need oiling, I believe it doesn’t hurt, but have not oiled it The knife marks are present, but I accept those as protecting my expensive knives, which remain sharp!.

I recently received the Kanso 6 piece knife set as a gift. Although the block set is a darker and different color than the cutting board, it does not impact how I feel about the performance of it. It’s a lightweight board with a smooth finish.

It also protects my Shun knives from destruction and dull. The board itself sits nicely on the counter and does not move around periodically like other boards when you are cutting. If this is your first time purchasing the board, please read the care instructions.

It goes a long way in maintaining the board and prevents from stains. The board is high performance and great quality when it comes to slicing and dicing. This is truly a great investment piece.

Just recieved. It smells terrific! Great size and weight. Has one 3 inch separation between the boards which we have photographed in case it continues to separate further. Now with almost daily use we will see how happy our knives will be.

I was gifted this item in order to get my honest review. I love to make charcuterie boards and I think these will be great for making various sizes of boards. The small board is great for a bar board for cutting citrus as well.

I would probably not recommend these boards for cutting meat because there is no moat to catch juices and drippings. I love that these cutting boards are lightweight and have a beautiful, natural wood grain.

It’s a beautiful board – the wood pattern is really lovely. I also like how it has gripper pads on the bottom corners so that it doesn’t slide around. It seems to be getting scratched up basically immediately upon using it, so I docked a star for that.

Omg the bestttttttttttt cutting board I have ever used. It is heavier than the plastic ones however I liked it because its big so I can do a lot of cutting at the same time. Also more presentable on the kitchen counter.

May leave some colour when washed for the first 1 or 2 times but overall I am totally I made this purchase!.

This cutting board is sturdy and looks very nice. The nonslip feet work great so the board does not move while cutting. It is a great size for chopping and also for presenting cheese,meats and/or fruits and vegetables as appetizers.

The only negative for me is the surface, after washing, it became a little ruff. I have other wooden cutting boards and I have had to put a coat of oil on them. I don’t know if that kept them smooth or it could just be the nature of the birch wood.

I followed the directions as to washing and drying. I think, even with that one negative, that I would recommend this cutting board to others.

My brother knows me so well! He gave this to me for my birthday this year and it’s the best gift! I was really needing a new cutting board. This cutting board is so great! It’s very sturdy, very heavy and really solid! I use one side for cutting and the other I have been using for charcuterie.

It’s so beautiful and because of the size, it makes such an impressive display. The coloring and quality are gorgeous. A well thought out gift given with such love! Including the oil so I can keep to clean and in excellent condition! Always wipe with a damp rag, never submerge your cutting board, then a nice thin coat of oil to keep it moisturized and the wood won’t warp or split.

There are few kitchen products that I would describe as a thing of beauty and a kitchen essential but, my Boos Block maple cutting board is definitely one. I have owned many cutting boards over the years, plastic and woods ones that discolor, develop knife marks, slide around when using them and I hide when not in use.

The glass cutting boards don’t discolor but dull knives. The Boos Block board is wonderful. To start it’s a great size for almost anything I’m chopping. It has enough weight, so it does not slide around and when you are pounding out some meat on it, it absorbs the impact.

I like the two groves on the sides so it can easily be lifted and or flipped to use the other side. Before my first use, I have been following the instructions on sealing the wood with the Boos Block wax and oil and have found that nothing to date, has left a stain on the surface of the board.

A little soap and water and it look like new again. The maple is soft enough so its gentle on knife blades but hard enough that I have yet to damage the surface from cutting on it. The quality of the maple and manufacturing of the board is top notch.

I leave my Boos Block out on the counter when not in use as an accent in the kitchen. It’s adds a little flare to the room like you see in those design shows and food magazines. This will be the last cutting board I will ever need.

Over the last 13 years of grilling I’ve used all shapes, sizes and material of cutting boards. A lot of them got the job done but made the cutting process so much harder. My least favorite is the “slip and slide” where you have your cutting board moving everywhere while you’re trying to cut.

After trying this cutting board, I’ll never go back to any other one! The weight is perfect for heavy duty use. It can handle steaks, burgers, a butchers knife, whatever you throw at it. First time I used it, it still looked fresh out of the box.

This comes with lubricants to make sure you ensure your invest lasts long so you can keep impressing everyone on that Sunday Football Game or 4th of July weekend. Make sure to follow the instructions.

May seem a little heavy at first but to tell you how much I loved this cutting board, I made it a point to load it in my truck for Memorial Day weekend on a 3 hour family road trip. Hope you and your family enjoy it!.

Very nice cutting board set. I treated it with cutting board oil, and conditioner, upon receipt. Since then, I’ve used a cleaver on the large one several times. There are no dings on it, which leads me to believe this will be quite durable if I take proper care of it.

I also love the juice groove. I chop and dice a lot of veggies per week, and the smaller boards are also holding up. For me, the set is a keeper.

I definitely won’t be needing to go to the store anytime soon for new boards! These boards are the best quality and size I have seen so far. The medium boards and small are perfect for everyday use. I used the largest one for grilling and taking it to the grill, fits all my meats and veggies on it.

I don’t have to plate the steak anywhere and just serve it on the big board. The juice grooves are the best! None of the steak juices got on the table and looked real good! Very comfortable.

So, I’m not sure how I feel about these. I wanted to cover my Condo’s Formica counter tops so that they wouldn’t get all stained and marked up. For that, they’re great because the height of them is short enough that there is room for all of my appliances against the back of the counter, and then I placed these along the front where the leftover counter is showing.

They look really nice, but I am not really using them for cutting because they get marked up with knife slices really easily, and also when you get them (quick rinse. do NOT ever saturate them) wet to wipe them down, the wood immediately swells and gets rough.

I can often feel little shards that would likely end up in food, so I am really only using them as a counter covering. I ended up oiling them with avocado oil twice, hoping it might help, but it hasn’t.

I’ve never had a bamboo cutting board before so maybe this is how they all are & I think if I was to take them outside and rally sand them good, that this could possibly help, but I haven’t done that.

Also, keep in mind that there is no way any air can get underneath these, so you need to be sure the underside is always kept completely dry before laying them on the counter for any length of time to prevent mold & warping.

Was so happy when this came back in to stock. I first purchased this for myself and brought it to my moms to use in Thanksgiving festivities. She liked it and wanted it so I gave it to her. Beautiful piece.

I have a super small kitchen with almost no counter space, and bought a second one for when the first isn’t clean. I am used to much larger cutting boards, but this works as well for most things without taking up much space.

the bamboo holds up really well, kind of prefer it to traditional wood.

This is my first wood end-grain chopping board. I’m pleased with it. I only gave 4 stars because the surface was not smooth in some parts of both cutting surfaces and the juice groove was a little bit rough.

After oiling and waxing the board, the real beauty of the wood emerges, but when I clean the excess oil and board cream, small pieces of the towel I’m using get stock in the rough parts of the board and the groove leaving lint.

I saw a review that recommends using a fine and extra-fine sanding paper before using it. I understand why now. I will try that and re-treat it with oil. The board is a good value, but the company needs to do more quality control.

I ordered the Tramontina Teak End Grain Chopping Block. The description said it was pre-seasoned. Of course after waiting 10 business days for it to arrive I expected it would be perfect and it looked very pretty.

until I opened the shrink wrap. As I pulled the plastic wrap back with one hand I ran my other hand over the board to feel it’s smoothness. What I pulled back was wet stain. I thought seriously about taking it back to my local Sam’s Club but, I really had wanted this board.

I could try to get a replacement but what are the odds of getting one as described. pre-seasoned, not wet with stain? I took a pic of the stain on my hand and the smear of stain on the board but, for some reason this app won’t let me load it.

While I don’t have a lot of time for it anymore I happen to know a little about woodworking. I knew how much time it would take to finish the board and get it to where it was supposed to be. the described version in the ad.

I called Sam’s Club customer service. In the 15 or 20 years I’ve been purchasing from Sam’s Club I think this was only the second time I’ve ever had to call them. I spoke with someone who had a heavy accent.

East Indian I think. I have trouble with accents but even so, was able to explain what I had received and the condition I received it in. The person on the other end of the phone apologized as I’m sure is written into the scripts they read, repeatedly.

I was offered to return, exchange or get a 10% discount on the item. None of those options appealed to me. Mind you I know how many days of applying a food grade butcher block oil on both sides of this board evenly is going to take and it’s NOT 10% more effort.

When I asked if they could improve their offer I was told, no. Then, I point blank asked. “Can you give me 25% off the price I paid as a refund?” I was asked to hold. The person on the other end of the phone came back within 30 seconds saying the supervisor had approved the 25% refund.

While I’m still in the process of putting on coats to wait to dry and reverse the board to do it again with sanding in between and multiple coats. meaning this is going to be a 2 to 3 weeks for the work is done and at least 3 days after the final coat before it can be used, I’m as satisfied as I can be I suppose.

The point of my review? As always, caveat emptor my friends. Read the description fully if you want what you paid for and, even then, you might have to work for it a bit more.

Its pretty, but unfinished. It diesnt have a finish on it. I sanded with 200, 400, 800 and 1200, then finished with food grade epoxy. Something this price shoud be a finished priduct, i shouldnt have needed a band aid for a splinter.

I’ve reviewed a few cutting boards. The end grain boards are more attractive than the large blocks made from a single cut from a large tree. They’re also supposed to be more friendly to knives because they don’t dull the blades as quickly as the other boards.

Without exception, the end grain boards come ‘rough’ – the blocks are glued together, there may have been a bit of sanding during production, but the wood hasn’t been prepared for use as a cutting board.

To prepare the board requires rubbing mineral oil, or a mineral oil and beeswax solution, or just beeswax into the surface of the board, leaving it overnight, then rubbing the excess off the board. This takes time.

You’ve got to have the oil, wax, or a product designed for cutting boards. It’s often a hassle to prepare the board for use. The End Grain Teak Cutting Board from Ziruma shows respect for the customer.

The board is packed in a very attractive box – very suitable for use as a gift. The board is very attractive, with large, rectangular pieces of Teak glued to others in an attractive pattern. One side has a groove cut into it, designed to catch juices and other liquids that come from what’s being cut.

The other side, equally attractive, can be used for presentation – as a serving tray. A cutout on the edge makes it easy to pick up the rather hefty cutting board. This cutting board comes ready to use (although you may want to clean it before the first use).

It’s smooth, and has been ‘cured’ with beeswax and organic Coconut Oil. After a few weeks of use, maintenance involves rubbing beeswax (included in a small tin – buy more when you need it) onto the cutting board, leaving it for a while, then rubbing it off.

If you google it (or use another search engine), you’ll see which wood is best for a cutting board. Teak ranks near the top. The teak used in this cutting board is said to come with trees that are more than 25 years old.

This leaves the younger trees to mature. I really like this cutting board. I expect it to be an important addition to my kitchen for many years.

I got the end grain version of this, and it’s a real show-stopper. It’s definitely the most attractive chopping block I’ve ever had, and once effectively sealed, it’s so easy to use and maintain. The most common way I use it is for presenting different items off the grill, and I don’t really worry about what I’m putting on it because I sealed it effectively with the included board wax and have continued to maintain it with another type of board wax that I had on hand as well as mineral oil.

I have literally gone from putting grilled fish on it one day to a meat and cheese board the next because it cleans off so completely. There’s no residue left on it from whatever I put on it. The appearance is phenomenal.

The way that the end grain pieces are selected, as you can see in my images, seems to be that the pieces that are vertically adjacent to one another are cut from the same piece of wood, so the patterns are complementary.

It’s really a sight to behold. The teak wood itself is inherently quite good looking. Now, the photos were taken after I sealed it with wax and mineral oil. It looks a bit more raw when you first get it.

I also like that the branding is minimal and tasteful, unlike some cutting boards I’ve seen. I just can’t recommend this thing enough. It’s beautiful and highly functional. I have no fear of it wearing down with time as long as I continue to maintain it (which I intend to do).

I strongly suggest the end grain one even though it’s a bit more expensive. It’s totally worth it because it feels better to work with and has a much more attractive pattern. I’ve had edge grain boards from other brands, and while they’re not ugly, per se, the end grain look is superior, as is its performance.

I’m happy to report that I haven’t had any issues with this board at all, but I’ve seen in other reviews that this company seems to provide stellar customer service as well, so that’s something nice to keep in mind.

Overall, highly recommended. If you’re in the market for a nice chopping block like this, this one is phenomenal, and really fairly priced at $75 (currently) for the end grain version. ***I write reviews as a hobby because I love trying out electronics, clothing, household products, kitchen devices, and more.

This cutting board is excellent. A rare five stars. It’s made of teak, with a glassy smooth, natural finish. The detail in the wood is breathtaking. Beautiful teak. Overall feels very high end. The design is very thick and sturdy, with deep handles carved out in the sides, which are actually very useful for moving it around, due to its thickness.

One side is for cutting, the other for presentation. The craftsmanship seems excellent – mine has no imperfections, and is joined seamlessly all around, with deep handles carved out in the sides. Seems to have been put together with great care.

It is finished with coconut oil and organic beeswax – making it perfectly food safe. The packaging was also very well done. My daughter said it was beautiful and exciting to open. The first thing upon opening the box is a bit of instruction, and a pretty tin of organic beeswax displayed in the cardboard casing.

The board was under that layer, wrapped in beautiful paper with a sticker seal. She said she wanted to keep it in the packaging to keep looking at it. Would make an awesome gift for any home chef. My daughter (who has a high end kitchen) has nothing negative to say about it.

Love this huge cutting board. I could not believe the price when I found it. I have always wanted a big butcher block cutting board. We have a large family – 8 kids plus my husband and myself – and we cook from scratch, so we use it every day, from cutting fruits and veggies to processing our own chickens to making dough for bread, donuts, rolling out cinnamon rolls, etc.

It’s size makes it versatile for all kinds of things and it’s weight means it doesn’t slide around while being used. I have been using it for several months now and it seems to be very heavy duty and durable.

I expect it will last for years. I plan to order the mineral oil elixir to protect it. We may even end up picking up a second one. Although I consider it’s weight to be a plus, it would be too heavy for anyone who is weak for any reason.

That would be the only possible problem I can think of!.

First let me say this cutting board is very nice! Upon receiving my order there was shipping damage and a spot that was splintering and splitting. I went to the website and clicked the chat now link for help, explained my problem and was told they could reship or give me store credit.

EXCELLENT customer service! I chose reship because It’s a great board and I want it! It’s solid and does not slip around despite the fact that there are no rubber feet as it is reversable. Seems to be well made I think the one I received just had a defect.

I love the thickness and the size is perfect for home use, not too big, not too small. I took away one star because of a dent on the edge which I think was from shipping. It was in a perfect fit cardboard box with only a very thin foam sheet wrapped around the board.

Bubble wrap and a slightly bigger box I think would have prevented the dent. I hope my replacement is in good condition. The price is FANTASTIC!.

Excellent cutting board! It comes with two sides: you can prep meat on one side, and flip it for vegetables. It’s very thick and sturdy, made from a nice wood, a great size, and takes oil well. Since my apartment is on the smaller side, it gave just the right size without being too small or too big.

It also has some convenient handle grips on both sides, to make it easy tp carry around. Great quality, and way better than my previous Board. Highly recommended!.

This is a beautiful cutting board that is well made. I love wood and the grain and color is very nice. I used it for thanksgiving turkey cutting and found one problem. My turkey was very juicy and the collection groove around the outside of the board was not large enough so some of the juice ran off the board onto the table.

I took it to my home shop the next day and put a larger router bit into my router and recut the groove wider and deeper. I think that should do the trick. I think this would be fine for most beef or pork roasts the way it is, but a really juicy bird will need some paper towels.

his was just the size I was looking for. When I took it out of the box, it was in “2” pieces!!! Where’s quality control? This is my second cutting board! The first one was from HSN & it had a large crack down the middle, so I sent it back.

THIS ONE was broken in two! Very disappointed as I really needed it. Sending it back, but I have to wait for the return label as it did not come with one.

I would not cut wet items like juicy fruit or meats. The wood is raw and unfinished so it would soak in the liquids and stain and ultimately smell bad. I’m trying to find those disposable cutting sheets that QVC used to sell for when I need to cut meats.

Otherwise, its perfect for dry items like bread and such. Great size.

How did I possibly live this long without this essential piece of kitchen equipment. I finally have a board worthy of my japanese knives. The little legs on the bottom elevate the board off the counter and prevent it from accidently getting wet on the underside when working near the sink.

Brilliant. I will finally avoid the warping I have experienced with other products. The size I bought enables me to scoop my chopped food easily into bowls/pots. I smile every time I look at this piece of artisanal beauty! I also love that it comes from Nova Scotia! Those Cape Bretoners have it down!.

I love this cutting board, I’ve tried a few end grain cutting boards and some slouched because the glue wasn’t done right or whatever various flaw. This is a gorgeous board and hits all the spots. I get compliments all the time on how pretty it is when people come over.

Oh and the attention to detail is on point. There are no wood knots filled in with glue, very important to me!.

This is my first end grain board and I can’t stop looking at it and admiring the patterns and wood. Simply stunning! I don’t have any other boards to compare it to but the Larchwood feels so soft to touch and I can’t wait to try out my Japanese knives on it.

One of the corners of the board appears to have been chipped off and glued back together then sanded down. Didn’t notice it until I was seasoning the board. Very minor and hardly noticeable and you only feel a slight indentation when you run your fingers over it.

Since this board was handmade, little things like this can happen but just adds to the character of the board. Hoping that it can stand the test of time and last me a lifetime.

The boards are perfect, beautifully designed and made. I had purchased Totally Bamboo boards before (from Amazon) and was very happy with them. I seasoned the new ones with coconut oil and let them dry for several days and they look beautiful.

(I don’t like using mineral oil. ) I’ve been using bamboo boards for at least twenty years and have never had them warp or split which was a problem with other woods I’d tried.

Information about this product is misleading. The description does not tell you everything you need to know before buying the board. It was only after purchasing it that I read on the packing (which is not pictured) that you need an additional product with the board.

Nowhere in the product description or pictures does it say that you need oil to apply to the boards before first time use. The oil would have at least came with the boards. I would not have purchased this if there was enough information to tell me that the oil was necessary before first time use.

The board had a lot of hairs which come out in the food. I absolutely hate it. I want my money back.

The quality of Totally Bamboo far exceeds the other bamboo cutting boards that I have used previously. I love the matched set with 3 sizes because I can use the best size based on what I am cooking/chopping.

They are easy to clean and easy to store. Highly recommend.

This is NOT a cutting board. It is a serving board/decorative piece and the label on the product that arrived says serving board. This is fake wood and not acceptable to use as a cutting board. I don’t know why some of the other reviews mention the beautiful wood.

The round version of this on the target website says serving board and I ordered this one because it says cutting board.

I’m hooked on all of these Threshold designed with Studio McGee items! This cutting board is very large and would be perfect for large roasts or loaves of bread, as well as a nice charcuterie! I love the heft of this piece, and the rope on the handle is perfect for hanging.
