20 Best Winter Jackets For Kids (2023 Updated)

This jacket is great. My 5 year old is about 52” tall, about 69lbs, and usually wears Medium (8) sized shirts. I had ordered a winter coat for myself and ended up having to size up, but did not do so for my kids…glad I didn’t.

They fit just fine, perhaps fitting slightly larger than specified, but this allows them to layer up for the winter weather. They can easily wear a sweatshirt/fleece under for extra warmth without the coat getting bulky.

The length of it is perfect, runs below their bottoms a bit (a good thing!). The sleeves are a bit on the longer side, but proportional to the rest of the jacket, and nothing the Velcro adjustment on the cuff won’t help with.

With that, there should be plenty of room for winter gloves. We haven’t had the chance to use it in any super cold weather yet, but I feel this will keep the kids warm enough. Overall, great quality coat!.

We love these coats! Our two boys wore them daily for about 6 months over the last year and they still look like new. Kept them plenty warm on the one day that it snowed here. My only complaint (and I recall seeing others complain about it before I purchased those jackets) is that the zipper sometimes would split.

I recently purchased the same coat in a larger size for our eldest son for this winter since he grew a bit and we haven’t tried it out yet, but I am crossing my fingers that the zipper issue has been resolved since the purchase of our older coats.

But even if it is still an issue, we really like these jackets.

Bought size M 10/12 for my larger than average 8 year old. Fits perfectly with room to grow. 3 days of heavy snow play and he has stayed warm and dry even without a snow skirt. Print is a hit and brightness makes him easy to see from far away.

Gloves fit nicely under the adjustable wrist cuffs. Pocket at the top will be great for his lift ticket.

My 4-year old daughter loves her new winter coat! Because she likes all things shiny, she is attracted to the silver sheen and rose gold hardware. I like it because it is girly without being pink. The silver color can be dressed up or dressed down and won’t clash with her wardrobe.

London Fog has always been a favorite brand for me – this jacket did not disappoint. Great quality and made touch for boys to wear to play and school. Great value.

The fabric is soft and durable. The jacket is so soft and warm inside. Pleasantly surprised. My son is hard in jackets and this one seems to be holding up.

This is so far the best as far as warmth for a liner/winter jacket ive found yet. It definitely puts the 590 Voodoo Falls and the 800 Alpha Trail to shame. Folks please keep in mind that the fill power is simply the fluff of the down which does help for warmth because it keeps the cold air that much further from your skin because it “fluffs” out further but also keep in mind the amount of down and insulation used is another huge factor as well.

You can have 1000 down fill power but if there is only a minimal amount of down used, it won’t retain heat as well as a 590 fill power with twice the down/insulation. This is something I wish Columbia would put on each item description but for some reason they dont.

They should definitely include the weight used in the down and whatever insulation used for each garmet listed. That would definitely help to jusge how well it may perform in the cold. I can’t remember exactly but i believe this one uses like 110 or 120 grams of down and like 30 or 40 grams of insualtion.

I got that info after asking a rep about the weight of everythinf from a frw different models. This one in paticular had more than another model which was 800 down fill. I think nearly twice as much.

The fit is right on track. Very comfy and can be used as an interchange liner in Columbia’s outer shell layer, which is exactly what i got it for. With the outer shell this thing is super warm. When I have a winter jacket I want to be able to wear a tshirt under it in 0 degree weather and be warm.

This with a shell will do that. As a stand alone jacket I would say with a tshirt that I would be warm in 20 dergee weather. With 0 temps in the wind id say wear a sweater for sure. Overall love it.

The Men’s Golden Grove is a nice warm down jacket with the Omni-Heat technology, which I have also enjoyed on my Columbia vest in its first incarnation. The jacket runs a little big and this is exaggerated by the overall boxy shape of the design.

I like the different stitching pattern to keep the down in place, which makes it stand out and give it a nice texture. The Columbia logo on the front is silk screened on and not in a high quality manner, giving the jacket a “budget” look.

Columbia used to embroider their logo on, but has now gone to a printed version to probably save a few bucks. Unless they’re eventually hoping to be sold inside of Costco’s, this is not a savvy move and will cause more fashionable conscious buyers to look elsewhere.

Since my jacket is black, I’m just going to color over the dishwater gray color with a black Sharpie to eliminate its impact. At full retail, you may want to investigate other options, but if it goes on sale, it’s a good buy compared to competition.

I’ve only had it a couple of weeks, so I can’t speak to durability or longevity.

Where to start. I liked this little jacket, so I purchased it for my granddaughter. Wanting her to wear it all winter, I bought a size bigger than she’s wearing now. It comes and it’s so tapered in at the waist that she can zip it, but there’s no way she’s going to sit down in it.

Wasn’t about to buy a bigger one, as the sleeves would have been way too long. Bad sizing. Incredibly bad sizing. (Have experienced it when buying from them for myself) Go to return it, and they’re charging me $6 to return it.

Not like it was my fault. I ordered a size bigger than I needed. I sent it back, and it wasn’t received by them for 10 days (UPS), then it took them another 5 to 6 days to return the money to my account.

Surely didn’t take them that long to take it out when I made the purchase. Now I’ll be leery about ordering from the site. Don’t want to order something that I can’t be sure will fit, only to have to pay to return it.

I bought this green puffer jacket based on reviews and the photo. Quality is horrible. You can see all the stuffing through the fabric. Fabric is very thin. Not very warm. Not worth this much money.

The coat itself is well made, but it runs very small. I ordered a big girl medium which is usually a size 10-12. The actual size was closer to a 4-5 toddler. I returned the coat

We purchased this jacket for our son to replace the winter jacket he grew out of. He looks so awesome in it! Not only stylish but most importantly it keeps our son very warm even on the coldest of days.

Love how this jacket is not bulky.

Great coat, I’ve taken it out for a rip in Dec in Toronto -10 – -6 Celsius and a sweater underneath and I was snug as a bug, even in the skyscraper wind tunnels. Not really the toughest test but I’m going winter camping at the end of Jan which will be the real test so I’ll post a follow-up review after that.

My only complaint is the the inner and outer breast pocket are on the same side of the jacket and you can’t really get full use of both if you’re using one, you know?.

Much too loose comparing to the Size Chart, which should be designed for Coats only, not the same Sizing Chart used for fitted tops. Beautiful bulky coat. I had to send it back. Too much trouble to reorder.

We really wanted to keep this jacket. It is very well built and comfortable, with all the features one can want: powder skirt, waterproof, grown-out, smart cuffs. Unfortunately, the fit is rather poor.

My son is skinny, yet, he found the arms very tight, all the while the length was just fine. The hood is also a problem as it is too small, lacking volume, does not fully cover his head, and it keeps popping off.

We have had a fairly mild winter up until now so my son has only worn his coat a handful of times. Since the day we got it, the zipper has been really hard to zip. On about the 5th time wearing it, I was trying to help him zip the coat and neither one of us could get it.

For what this coat cost, there shouldn’t have been zipper issues this soon. Very disappointed as I always buy Columbia brand for him and myself and I have always been happy with it until now.

Great fitting! Choices were easy to choose and the customer service representative that helped place the order was AMAZING! Outstanding fit, stitching and warmth. This is going to be a great coat for my kiddo this winter.

The built in snow skirt will be beneficial during outside play.

My daughter really likes the coat, but the color is a bit different in person than in the photos (on both my computer and phone). We ordered the coral color which looks kind of orange in the pictures but leans more hot pink/orange-ish in person.

Not a huge issue. As far as quality, she hasn’t had a chance to try it out but said it felt “like a cloud” so I think she’ll like it. Probably not the coat for constant sub freezing temps, but it’ll do fine for winter in Texas.

I am very happy with the jackets. I ordered 3, one for each of my kids. They are light enough that the kids are able to move comfortably and they don’t take up a lot of space, but warm enough for Ohio mornings at the school bus.

It’s a good fall/spring jacket that will keep them warm until it’s necessary to transition into a full winter coat. Sizing fits as expected, and it’s a great value at $20! They are good quality and the colors are very nice.

I’ve been buying this jacket in bigger sizes since my daughter was small. It’s stylish and keeps her warm as temperatures start to drop below 0. The jackets are so durable that I was able to pass them down to her younger sister despite the fact that my oldest is hard on clothes.

This is the second year in a row that I have purchased this winter jacket for my child. They use it for general winter use as well as skiing. It keeps them toasty warm even after spending several hours outside.

The hood snaps on and off. There are lots of pockets in all the right places. The material holds up well and looked just as good at the end of the season as it did at the beginning. We handed it down to a neighbour and it looked like a brand new jacket! I found the sizing to be true to size.

The jacket has beautiful material and colour. The insulation in the body seems pretty good. There was not very much insulation in the arms and we worried our little one would not be warm enough, so we ended up returning it.

Winter came early this year in the Midwest and It felt good to be prepared with this jacket. I bought it for my 4 year old daughter who likes to spend her days outside and in the snow. She is able to put it on herself and zip it without issue.

The hood is a perfectly snug fit for those days that we forget a winter hat. I like that it is bright so I can see her when we go skiing and sledding at night. She is usually just wears a long sleeved shirt underneath and is plenty warm.

This is a beautiful coat. The gold accents are very pretty against the green coat materiel. Lots of room in the pockets. Fits true to size. I like that it’s longer in the back and covers the bum area.

The parka looks great on my granddaughter. It is very well made and the outer jacket material is beautiful. I purchased the burgundy jacket. I’m very pleased with my purchase.

Got these for my b/g twins & love them! The built in hand warmer cover/mitten is genius! Your thumb goes through the side & you can either leave the fleece folded in half or fold it over your fingers to wear like a mitten! It’s perfect for when they are waiting for the bus, or walking outside for anything.

Plus when they want to go play it’s got the mitten clip system which clips onto the all in motion clip mittens/gloves so they don’t keep falling down which is a constant struggle with their small hands/wrist & when not using it keeps their gloves from going missing! the hood stays on without falling off & the jacket is nice & warm! the length covers their bottoms but isn’t so long that they lose movement.

I bought this for my son on HUGE sale ($40!) – it was worth every penny. It has fleece pieces that extend out of the sleeve that have thumb holes to keep the sleeves down when putting the coat on or putting on gloves.

It has thread on the inside of the sleeves that you can cut to extend the arm length so that you can get at least another winter out of it if your child grows. It’s warm, but lightweight. And, my son who rarely care what he wears, is ALL ABOUT his new coat.

That alone tells me it’s a win!.

These jackets kept both my kids warm during our recent snowboarding trip. They held up in the cold and even after getting wet from falls in the snow they still managed to stay warm. Technically they ended up taking them off at one point cause they were so warm.

They were everything we could of asked for. Although these are considered boys jackets I bought them both for my daughters as I couldn’t find anything compairable to them in the girls department in store.

It is high quality. As other say it runs long, so buy your child’s size. Drop hem in the back is nice, extra coverage for butt on cold days. The cuffs seem really nice- fleece enclosure will keep snow and cold out of the sleeve.

It is substantial, you can tell it is well insulated. My child felt warm and was really excited about how nice it felt. Only downside is the style- everything is the same color, in our case blue. The buttons, zipper, liner, color, all the same hue blue as the coat.

I’ve never seen that in a coat before. A little change would go a long way for style. Also snaps are a little hard for my 7 year old, but they seem secure.

I purchased this coat for my 4 year old grandson because I wanted something light yet warm when he walks to school during the winter. When I showed it to him and he tried it on, he didn’t take it off and wore it home the same day.

It’s a very nice coat and for the price should be made to prevent stains from settling into the fabric. I bought this coat less than 2 weeks ago. After wearing it out, I noticed a stain on it possibly from leaning on something or just interacting with the public during the day.

In the army color the stain is noticeable. I have washed it following the instructions but the stain is still too visible for the coat being at this price point. Definitely not an everyday jacket.

I received this coat a couple of days ago. Delivery and packaging, like always, were impeccable. The coat is soft, silky, very light and perfect for a warm winter day. The only reason I am giving it a 4 is the fit – this is more suited for a lady with either a perfect hourglass figure or someone without curves as the coat is rather straight when the waist cord is not tightened.

I am 5’5″, 115 lbs and, due to my wider hips I had to order a S rather than my usual size XS, and now have some extra fabric around my bust and upper back. I believe you can see this issue even in the photos on the website – it seems the model wearing the sand coat had to unzip it from the bottom in order for the bottom part of the coat not to look too tight, and the black coat, fully zipped up, does look rather tight around the hips (while the upper part looks perfect in terms of fit).

Luckily, when the cord on my S is tightened, the overall look is not that bad so I’m keeping it. I would give all the other features a 5, especially the colour (sand) which is absolutely stunning!.

Runs true to size. Larger than the Nathan jacket which I also have. Not super bulky. Works best as a layer underneath a large parka. Thin enough to fit inside a large leather jacket or varsity jacket.

Also works well on its own. Very warm. I’m 6’0 and 180 pounds and went with size 42 (US). Red color looks best in my opinion. The Mackage patch is removable velcro.

My son is all about rainbows right now and loves the rainbow coat. Fit is exactly as expected. I got one size up so that he could grow during the winter and possibly use next year. Very good quality and well made.

Looks like it will last several seasons. The inside is super soft and has additional rainbow details. The coat looks to be very warm, definitely a winter coat, not for mildly cool weather. I like the additional details like the zipper pockets, removable hood and cozy cuffs at the end of the sleeves.

I bought this for my 4 year old son and he gets compliments on it all the time. The different materials used in the design show how much thought is given to every Boden style. We got the red one with stripes on the upper half.

It feels so warm with the soft fluffy lining. We waited 4 months for it but it’s definitely worth it. He will wear it this winter and next. Will pass it on to someone we care about afterwards :).

I’ve been buying this jacket for many year for my children. It is fantastic and lasts long time. My daughter was in it for 3 years and the jacket still looks great for my younger daughter. However, in the past few years, the changes to the jacket (little things, but important) made it worse.

For example, the zipper guard at the top of the jacket. Who wants to get their chin scratched while skiing in the cold weather? No lift ticket pocket on the sleeve? Really? Now, more than ever with Covid, all the ski resorts have touchless scanners.

The breast pocket isn’t helpful at all. Also, the hoodie of this jacket is smaller than it used to be, doesn’t fit the ski helmet. But the most important feature is the tight fit at the bottom of the jacket.

It used to be looser. With the tighter fit at the bottom, if the kids wear snow pants, there’s no way they can move comfortably in it, let alone ski in the jacket. Please Columbia, bring the original Mighty Mogul back with the big hoodie, sleeve pocket, zipper guard at the top, and looser bottom.

I bought two of these coats, one for my daughter and one for my son. The quality looks great. Although, I don’t understand why the girls sleeve has some fleece by the cuff but the boys doesn’t. I would have appreciated my son to have the same.

Anyway, size wise, it was gigantic. I had to return and size down. They really liked the coats though and my daughter was dying to get out of it after a couple minutes because she was so warm. I have a feeling this coat will be great for our winters and the snow.

I loved all the pockets, and some were deep pockets! I also love the fleece lined hood and a very deep hood. We don’t really do any snow sports so no need for a. helmet but I would say this will definitely accommodate a helmet.

My kids do play in the snow quite a bit and hoods have always. been an issue going over hats. I have to say, this is based mostly on initial impressions and sizing. We aren’t in winter so I haven’t had them test it truly but based on experience from past coats, this is a definite upgrade for us.

Fingers crossed we can use these coats for a couple winters.

I love Colombia, I enjoy the quality, knowing my kids will stay warm. That being said I was less impressed with the coat than most of the others I have bought. I didn’t like there was no hook at the top of the neck for hanging, but more than that there isn’t an inside elastic cuff for the arms.

When i try to use the wrist velcro it doesn’t go small enough to hold the gloves inside the coat so there is a bit of fight to keep snow out. I would also say if your child has long arms size up, (I bought two of these for my kids) we are all petite and the arms are on the edge of seeming a bit short.

Length seems closer to normal for the sizes I bought. Overall happy with the products I have gotten.

Pros: Materials are high quality and definitely warm. Smart looking coat. Cons: Heavy, runs small — anyone with a bit of a Covid gut will have trouble closing the front. Feels a bit constricted for active use like cross country skiing.

Suitable for walking and less active outdoor use.

The Saint Ulric parka is the slightly cheaper version of the Moose Knuckle Stirling parka – it just doesn’t have the fur. This is a very warm & well made parka that for many is a viable option to Canada Goose coats – just check out the many you tube & online reviews.

Unlike Canada Goose products this jacket went on sale & became even better value for money.

Gave this to my husband as a gift It looks great on him. It’s warm and looks good. You will enjoy this coat We tried other designer’s coats but nothing looked as good as this one did, or they weren’t as warm.

Really wanted to like this jacket, it is a high quality jacket with all the features you expect from Patagonia. Loved the color and I tend to be ‘zipper’ challenged’ often seem to have problems with zippers and thought the zipper was fine even though others mentioned it in their reviews.

My only issue was that this wasn’t a warm jacket, my Patagonia down sweater seems to be warmer. I kept putting it on and going outside and then would come back in and put my Patagonia down sweater on and go outside then put on a North Face down jacket with down fill and compare it outside.

I don’t know if there was just poor quality down in the jacket or there just wasn’t enough fill. I did notice the sleeves aren’t ant loftier than my down sweater. Also, just an observation but I’m kind of past having bright labels on the front of the jackets stating the brand, something more subdued would work better for me.

Sizing was perfect.

This is my first Patagonia since I always buy from lululemon. LOVE this jacket just perfect for Spring! The inside is very soft, comfy and roomy. It’s 1deg c and just wearing a t shirt underneath. I’m 5’1 and a slightly chubby and this fits me perfectly.

Bought the pink color and it’s gorgeous more like a sporty look. I love how the zipper goes up to your neck for extra warmth. Definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a sporty look.

Why hasn’t anyone written a review for this amazing jacket!? It’s light, breaks wind, repels water and gas cozy fleece inside! Win, win, win!! Just for reference I’m 5’2/157cm and weigh 103lb/47kg and XS fits perfectly! I was worried that the jacket would be too long and I have short legs, but it sits just below my hips.

The jacket fits snug on the body but also roomy underneath for layers. It had a slight bomber style, which I absolutely love, and tall collar to keep the neck warm. I like the green colour but I just wish Patagonia Australia would sell the blue colour with purple fleece!! If you’re looking for a jacket this winter, get this one!.

This jacket is perfect for what I was looking for. It’s so lightweight and I love the slim fit. Ordered a 12 and 14 for size (I’d say I’m generally a 12) and went for the 14, just to have the option of wearing a jumper underneath when it gets colder.

Sleeve length is ideal – I Hate getting cold wrists lol. I also love that it has a hood, so you don’t have to faff about taking an umbrella if it Might rain. Bought in the sale so happy days : x.

Bought for my daughter for Christmas, it’s a lovely coat and she loves it. Perfect for chilly days. Obviously it’s not a winter coat so not completely waterproof. Only thing I will be negative about is the lower body part is quite narrow, but still within the sizing.

The only part of the coat that will touch your skin – that’s where they used scratchy cheap material. Seriously, a coat nearly $700 and this is where they skimp? Makes it seem like a $150 coat and they needed to cut costs.

Other than this it seemed well made, strong zippers. Whoever made the choice of material around the neck/face must have been asleep on the job. Also the shoulders were too tight on me but I have broad shoulders so that’s no surprise.
