20 Best Wife Beater Tank Tops (2023 Updated)

Love the softness of the fabric, the clingy stretch and deep back scoop not so much. I normally wear a large but this large is a little too roomy under the arms when you try to pull the top up a little so it’s not so low and scoopy in the front and back.

Still is a great, cool, roomy tank for under cardigans or just running around on a hot day. I’m hoping the large will shrink up a bit in the neck and underarm area after i throw it in the dryer. I love the old non stretchy time and tru tank tops.

Hoping they come back, not too low and no scoop in the back. Love those tanks!.

This is the biggest waste of money that I ever had. I ordered medium. The small wasn’t available in the colors I wanted: black, white, and beige, so I got medium. This is what happened- the black was almost ok, I can wear it but it’s just a bit large.

The white is HUGE. It came down to my knees! And the armholes were totally open down to my waist! This will be thrown out. But the beige was a real winner- literally the left side was too small and the right side was HUGE.

How is that even possible??? But they managed to do it. I am so done with Walmart.

I used to purchase almost the exact same layering tanks through a major family referral. But the tanks with tge other retailer were $12. 99 each, and the straps of the tanks were a little more narrow than these tanks, and they would also tend to stretch out through the day.

I found these layering tanks at one of my local Walmart stores, and couldn’t believe the quality for the price! These are made of a very soft, brushed cotton, and do NOT have any running in them (yay!).

Try these tanks, you won’t regret it!.

I like the longer length of these tanks since I am taller. I ordered 6 (3 med. and 3 large) to give three as a gift. One of the two identical striped ones appeared to be packaged less carefully, and the trim was not the color shown.

It was as if it was added later and was perhaps some older stock added in order to fill my shipment. The fabric says it is 58% cotton, but they all feel as though they contain more poly than stated. Not sure how I will like them long term and thought they were expensive for what they are, even at the 3-pack discounted price of $12 each.

I got some that appear identical in style and fabric content from a big box store for $5 each a couple of years ago. Looks like they are all made at the same factory, and just stamped with different labels for the retailer.

I ordered the charcoal gray and light gray tanks and love them. I’m really fond of the fine ribbing. It’s more refined than with other tanks and shirts I’ve had from other companies. The fit is just like people have mentioned in the comments.

They’re snug and can give you some support. I’m 5’8″ tall, 145 pounds and a 34A. I think larger bra sizes would feel supported wearing these tanks, as well. But they’re unlined and aren’t intended to replace a bra.

The size medium is like a nice hug. It’s very snug fitting but wonderfully comfortable. I think a size large would have been a better option. I’d say they’re pretty true to size, so maybe go with your usual size and then go up or down depending on how you’d like them to fit.

I just received my order of ribbed tank tops. I am so excited for these. after searching all over the place for tank tops, I finally found the place. The ribbed tank tops are amazing. They are soft and fit perfectly.

I am a bit put off by 2 different styled tanks labeled the same thing. When I ordered the tanks, I typed in what the label said on a blue tank I had just bought at a store and figured that it would match what I ordered.

Upon receiving the tanks, I was surprised that I received the wrong items. Having them labeled the same way makes it challenging to order online. I was ordering blank tank tops (used to be called modal but received ribbed tanks).

If you’re aiming to make things simple for your customers, label each item differently or have a notice when they’re online to select a sub category of a First Layer Tank Top. Also the top of this drop down menu to give a review says: First-Layer Tank Top for Women (which is what I thought I ordered) but the items I received were: Scoop-Neck Rib-Knit First Layer Tank Top for Women.

I also just reviewed my order and Old Navy sent me the wrong tanks!!! You sent me the Rib Knit one when I ordered the First Layer ones.

I was looking for a great all occasion tank top to replace the time and tru brand from walmart that I loved but they no longer carry. This tank in black is really close to it, soft, same percentage of cotton to lycra, and a much nicer fabric, and just a more well-made tank top.

Only drawback is I had to adjust my bra straps in the back so they don’t show. They still peek out a little in the back after adjusting but I wear a matching bra color so they don’t stand out. Great price and quality.

Not too long either just the right length, and the X-L skimmed well over my love handles in the the back, didn’t cling too much. Will wash by hand and hang dry to keep these nice, and shrink them in the dryer when I lose the winter weight.

I bought 15 of them because they’re so cheap! :).

I absolutely love these tank tops. They are formfitting yet comfortable. The way the fit is very slimming. The V-neck hits low which is what I prefer but it does show a little bit off without looking trashy.

You can dress them up or down, it looks great either way. They are really good quality, The hems are stitched well and look crisp. I have every color in multiple sizes and I wear them almost daily, even in the winter.

This tank top is hands-down the most comfortable top I’ve ever had on. I own probably 30 of these bad boys. I want more colors please! A deep purple would be amazing or a forest green, which I haven’t seen in about five years.

Its time Old Navy! I need more colors!.

As someone who has worn Jockey imported tanks for years, I was eager to try their new ‘Made in America’ version. I washed and dried them first according to instructions. Shrinkage was minimal. I wear size Small and pre-washed the length measured 29″ (from top of tank strap to bottom of hem) and width 13″ (at the widest point).

Post wash and dry, shirts measured 28. 25″ in length and 13″ in width. Length is very generous considering how long they remained after laundering and extend down to just the top of my genitals. So, easy to stay tucked in through out the day.

I am 5’7″ tall. The imported laundered version of Jockey tanks of mine measure 25″ in length and 14″ in width. Comfort wise I find the material of the ‘Made in America’ to be somewhat rough compared to the imported ones.

I use a vinegar rinse on all my clothing (underwear and all other items) since is a natural fabric softener and whitener. I haven’t used commercial fabric softener in over 2 years because it has a tendency to clog the ‘pores’ of your clothing and that is why you see Jockey and many other manufacturers showing ‘no fabric softener’ symbol on their clothing labels.

I also find the body of the shirt to feel ‘off’ compared to the imported ones. It may because the width is somewhat narrower. Maybe a M would be a better fit for me in this version; however, the arm holes would be too long for my comfort.

Post wash the armholes even on these Small ones are actually longer than I prefer so would only be longer if I sized up. The imported tanks also feel softer; but, may be due to being laundered several times vs these new ones being washed only 1 time.

For me I will stick to the 4 pack of imported ones as they seem softer and measurements work out better for me. If you’re a tall guy, this Jockey Made in America version will probably work best for you.

Otherwise, for shorter guys like me, I will stick to the imported ones.

I received the black Jockey tank tops in size small. I was excited to receive these as both as an undershirt as well as by itself. I first wore this out as an undershirt but still with an open short sleeve button down shirt.

The way that it looked went a little bit lower on my chest than I would have liked, but the fit was overall okay. After that, I wore it around the house as a lounge/pajama shirt. Pros: Works for both being an undershirt or to lounge around the house (which many of us do nowadays!).

Cons: The fit was a little odd compared to other tank tops that I own. I have bigger pecs, so it both accentuated them but also looked a little off. Overall: I think that for the price, these will work better as an undershirt or pajama shirt.

I wouldn’t recommend wearing it with an ensemble when it could be seen.

Does not fit correctly for size. I am a large in nearly every shirt or tank but this has lots of extra material at the sides of the chest area. This bulges out, rides up, and doesn’t look very flattering.

Did not try with tighter fitting shirt over it but this may create wrinkles, creases, and not look great. Very long length for a “beater” type sleeveless tank. This part isn’t a negative, but know this about fit.

Might shrink more with washing and in that case would def avoid the midriff look after dried many cycles. Material seems nice, prominent ridges. Stomach area is moderate tight fitting but without being restrictive or accentuating a gut.

These tanks are wonderful. I loved the length, hard to find in a tank plus the fabric is wonderfully soft, like loungewear and it doesn’t wrinkle. Very multi-functional.

Love the bamboo material in this tank. The neck is too big but otherwise the black one fit fine. I also got a vanilla colored one that was huge. Had to send it back.

I love this black top. It fits me well and I will wear it often with a sweater or jacket. I bought several.

Hi, I purchased the “In Motion Seamless Tank” in July 2021 in turquoise and a really dark distressed black and I loveee them! I must had. wrote 3 times to Target to please make more. They are super springy/stretchy and still holding their own!!! When I found them again I was over the moon and I caught them on sale to boot! Great style, comfortable, true to size and attractive as well.

So I ordered 2) black, 1) white, the heathered blue, the charcoal and the olive green. When they arrived I was so entirely disappointed since they are completely different material. They’re not that same stretchy material like my original ones and the arm holes are a lot lower on me.

The pattern changed. They had to go back. If I opted to exchange them for an XSmall for the arms to come higher, the bottom of the top would be too tight since it didn’t have that stretch factor like the original seamless ones did and there would be “poppin”.

🙁 My plan was to get rid of all of my older workout tops and replace them with all of these. Sadly, my plan back-fired on me. The description has to be better. This is a really nice top. However, these aren’t seamless.

Seamless is that really yarny, super stretchy material — even in the seams. This is definitely NOT in my opinion seamless. I hope this helps to make an informed decision.

I purchased two of these in black in XS from the clearance rank to wear to hot yoga class. After trying it on, I was extremely pleased. I loved everything about it. A lot of tanks don’t have coverage around the arm openings.

Since sports bras are designed for compression, no matter how fit someone is, some of your flesh spills out the arm area. This top covers that phenomenon, and I love this feature. I recently ordered five more tanks in various colors and a few ended up being shorter and tighter fitting in the same size as my black ones.

I’m going to return the ones that are inconsistent fitting and size up. Hopefully, I can get the same fit I love in a size small. If the size was consistent between colors, I would consider this top perfection.

Please Target, don’t discontinue this almost perfect fitness tank top.

I bought one in the rose color and loved it so much that I went back and bought all the colors in my size. I’m 5’2, 116 lbs, wear 32C bra and XS fit me perfectly. It’s long enough for tall girls and for short people like me it hugs your body enough that it doesn’t bunch up at the hem.

It’s very stretchy but retains it shape. It’s super soft and breathable, hugs your body like a glove. If you don’t like the glove-fit, size up one maybe even two sizes and it would still fit great. I personally prefer the hugging fit with my workout clothes.

I usually tie the hem at the waist to cinch my tops but with this one there’s no need to do it. The neckline is high and the armholes are just right, no gaping. And yes it accentuates your shoulders.

This is now my favorite workout shirt!!!.

Burnt orange, royal blue, yellow, magenta, red, beige, green and buying brown now. This tank has changed become my favorite this summer. It’s perfect with jeans or skirts, in cardigans or blazers. Slightly low cut but not uncomfortable, fitted but not snug.

The colors are vibrant and wash well. I am 5’3″ and 125lbs, got size small since I don’t like the tight/snug fit but it’s not loose either. Love it and am hoping they’ll get them in more colors.

This tank is soft and comfortable. Fits a bit roomy and shorter than I would like. I’m 5’9″ and 135, and I bought small. I would love an extra inch in the length, but there isn’t a tall option on this one.

The red star color is bright and pretty. This top has only a bit of spandex, so it will probably get baggy over the course of the day. The cotton will keep it cool and soft, so the trade-off is fine.

The scoop neck is pretty low, which isn’t too much of a problem for me, but for those of you who are larger breasted, its something to keep in mind. Great under a sweater or zip hoodie.

I love this tank so much I had to get another one. I wasn’t expecting to love it because I don’t usually wear or like tanks because I have a large bust but this was a nice surprise. It fits tts and it’s so soft and comfortable and has good coverage.

I also love that it’s not long like many tops but isn’t cropped either it’s the perfect just below waist length. Need more and pls make other colors like purples and a tan not heathered.

I love the material!! Feels so good on and has a slimming effect to it. I did have to go up two sizes because it would have been way too tight otherwise. I’m normally an Large or XL. For form fitting I go with an XL.

But after reading other reviews I got it it in sizes 1X and 2X. I love the fit if both! I can layer the 1X no problem and looks amazing or wear the 2X alone. LOVE. Just size up!.

I’ve always been satisfied with most of my orders from Venus, but this time I was pretty surprised. I can fit into a medium, but I sometimes buy a large. I wanted this to fit looser, so I bought an extra-large.

I could barely get it on. I don’t know if Venus is buying from a new distributor or what, but this was like a small, extra-small, or petite. I purchased 7 different tops, and they all fit the same way.

I had to return all of them.

These tank tops are great great quality! They are a very fitted style tank but very flattering. I usually wear a size M in shirts & first ordered the black in a M but went back and ordered another black in XL just so it wouldn’t be so tight when I wanted to wear it alone with shorts or pants and it is great.

Absolutely love! Can wear alone or as a under shirt. It is very smooth & form fitting. I have all three colors in XL now. If you want a bit more room definitely size up a size or maybe two obviously that would be a personal preference.

I have 3 colors of this tank. I love everything about it! Long enough comfortable and the shark bite hem is flattering! My favorite ways to wear it are with A denim jacket or a long contrasting color button up shirt over the top.

Love all my clothes. But it took over 2 weeks to deliver, since I ordered them for vacation and the “estimated” delivery date was 4 days before my trip I thought I was safe. instead my single package travelled all over the united states before arriving 3 days after I got back.

This tank is perfect! Just what I was looking for. I have been looking for a really lightweight tank top I could wear to bed since I live in Vegas and it’s hot about 7-8 months out of the year. Most sleep tanks are either too thick or the armholes are outrageous because I guess they figure since it’s for sleeping people won’t care about coverage.

I care and these tanks are perfect! Lightweight, super soft, just the right amount of stretch! Can’t beat the price either! I bought two in the store and I’m about to order the rest of the colors. I REALLY wish there was a grey though!! You guys need to make this in grey! Dark, Light, Heather.

First of all, let me start off by saying I absolfrigginlutely (is that a word) love Terra Sky. The fabric is so soft it feels amazing. Secondly, the fit is great as well. Usually I wear a 4X in t-shirts but I got this one in a 3X and I have room in it.

So you may want to size down depending on how you want it to fit. Next, this t-shirt is so versatile you can dress it up or down. Today I am wearing it with a pair of Terra Sky’s black and white print capri leggings.

Overall, I love this t-shirt and I will be purchasing it in every color!.

Asked if I was pregnant in this. Okay Im 5ft 9 224 lbs. I have a big droopy low tummy. I knew the question would come if I wore this alone. It did. I dont care and would keep ordering in more colors but I bought every color and love them because they are so lightweight and super soft on my skin.

I layered this with a Terra and Sky button down shirt worn open and no more pregnancy questions. I look great in this now and feel confident.

Bought normal size 1X last year. Fits perfect under arms covers wonderfully, just enough A line flare that looks good without too much fabric. So just picked up 3 more sets this year and ALL fit the same! I have purchased many items over 20 years here and these are Consistently by far the best fitting sleeveless tops ever! What ever company is manufacturing these is doing a great job!!! These would make a great Today’s special value next year.

I would love to see a solid true red, and a white and blue star combo as well as pastel colors solid soft pink, and combo of lavender, pink, chambray, yellow, mint green brush strokes would be great.

Another idea the soft faded out stars that were on a sweatshirt of sorts done by D&C was a cool look in pastels. Also, it could be a 3 pack including a white with any combination as always need new white top every year.

Another consideration make a wide v neck instead of round and/or a smile bottom. Side note I purchased one of the cotton interlock v neck, (A511166) as i do love an all cotton top, the fabric is wonderful but it has gaping arm holes, wings under the arms so back it will go.

So disappointing.

I bought the set Blue Haze Abstract specifically for that print and I didn’t want the solid color because I was sure the color would be drab and it is. I really don’t know if I’ll ever wear it so I paid a lot of money for one tank.

This is why I wish sets weren’t offered. But if they are offered, the price should be much lower, especially in this case. Having said that, I absolutely love the Blue Haze Abstract! It’s a fascinating print with different shades of blue to work with.

Unfortunately, one armhole is bigger than the other so my bra is visible. Fortunately, I don’t wear sleeveless tops because I don’t like to show my upper arms. Luckily, I have toppers to match and this can even be worn into the fall.

Fits true to size, hangs nicely. The solid-colored top, a drab light blue, fits but puckers at the neckline and looks awful on me. Hangs like a tent. And this time, one armhole is bigger on the back part and both armholes are just too big in general.

The material is soft & kind of stretchy. I hung them up to dry so I don’t know if they shrink in the dryer. 5 Stars for the print. 2 Stars for the quality – very disappointing.

The colors, shape, drape held up through machine wash and dry (I only dry my laundry for about 15 minutes, then I hang my clothes on a line because that is what I like to do). This did have a chemical odor when it arrived, enough that I washed it before wearing.

The odor came out completely, no problem. Now I have put it on and am very impressed with the fit and fabric. The fabric is soft and just the right thickness – thin enough not to be hot, thick enough to last and not be sheer – the Goldilocks of fabric.

What impresses me the most is how they cut and shaped the armholes and bodice fit. The armholes fit my body perfectly – not too low, not too high, no gaping, no pulling, lays across the breast and under the arm PERFECTLY.

Great job with this one! (I got two sets, on sale, and I am really happy with this purchase. ).

I like the color range and bought 5 colors. Wish the clothes is bit longer like 1-2cm more. But it’s still ok and just long enough to be not a crop top. Bought em mainly coz the cutting on the neck part is not too big.

Well, it wasn’t showing cleavage much. So safe to wear for day to day without looking sexy.

Love the broad shoulder stripe of this tank top. Not too tight for body or not too loose so long you choose the right size. Like all the colors, length just nice. Wish not ribbed material, but pure cotton.

Even is ribbed but is still smooth.

Really nice vibrant colour. I wish it were a bit tighter though. It’s relaxed and ok for lounging at home, but it would look more polished if the fit were more snug. UNIQLO Japan carries this in XS but the smallest size here is S :(.

This top is well made and will last longer than the cheaper/one season tanks I usually buy. Hesitated due to price, but satisfied once I got it. As with most tops I buy here and elsewhere, it was way too long for me so I had it hemmed.

I’m only 5′ and do not like long tops that cover most or all of my bottom. I wish BP and others offered more petite sizes so I didn’t have to do this most every time.

These are true boyfriend t-shirts. They are very roomy and have deep armholes, so a sports bra underneath is a must. I’m using them mostly to workout in and to wear around the house. I don’t think I’d wear it outside of these places other than maybe over a swimsuit at the beach.

Just keep that in mind when ordering because they are super casual. I love the higher neckline and they’re very breathable and lightweight. They also wash up really nicely. Great quality just like all the other items I’ve purchased in the CALIA line.

I bought this tank for a vacation to a hot tropical place, and I am so glad I did. It looked much nicer and beater than a typical tank top. I bought it in the beige and knotted the front. It was nice enough to wear in airports while traveling, while keeping me cool! Easy care was also a plus.

I washed it in a washing machine, but let it air dry. It looked just as good as the day I bought it!.

I love this shirt! True boyfriend cut, the arm holes are larger than a normal shirt but I love that. I thought the higher neck would make me uncomfortable but I actually love it. And I love the added touch of the knot.

The material is so great and light. I ordered the XS (5’3 and 120lbs) and the fit is great. Not tight but not too loose. Just right. Ordering in every other color they have!!.

These are the best tanks. One side is a round swoop neck and the other is a slight v neck. They look so good either way. The straps are perfect which I feel like a lot of tanks the straps are ridiculously long for some reason but these are always on point.

They’re the perfect amount of stretch. They’re my favorite length because you can kinda bunch them up at the bottom so you’ll look extra skinny! Love love love. Have them in literally every color!.

I have a strong need to wear a camisole under my shirts and have finally found exactly what I wanted. This comes up high enough under my arms to help control the bra fat around my arms and it’s long enough that I don’t have to constantly retuck it back into my pants.

I have since purchased more and thrown out my other styles. Great quality to.

I placed 2 separate orders for a total of 3 tank tops for my daughter for Christmas. She has worn these for years and loves them! Unfortunately, when they arrived, there was no ribbing on any of them.

When I called Customer Service, they said that the product had changed so even if I exchanged the tanks, I would receive the same ones. It’s a really nice tank…the fabric is soft, the fit is true to size, but the description is misleading.

I love these little shirts. I’ve worn one for at least 10 years almost every day as a first layer shirt (since I’m retired, hate bras and have little boobs). They’ve changed over the years but are still great!! There isn’t any more ribbing but they still fit perfectly.

So comfortable! Never stop making them!! More colors would be nice!.

Perhaps I expected too much based on all the reviews but it is a very nice, soft tank. I am surprised that no one mentioned this one issue. I ended up with bagging at the bottom of the straps. I can kind of pull the fabric and it mostly flattens.

I’ve never had that happen in a tank. Overall, I wouldn’t buy again but I won’t return. They are nice.

I got this tank in black and white – the material is softer than expected, which is nice and the cut is exactly what I was looking for! However, I ordered this in S, which is my regular size, but they did run large.

Slightly loose around the straps and quite long, fully covering my bum. I’m 5′ 3″, 130 lbs, athletic build, chest 34″, waist 29″, hips 37″. I had to return for an XS. Awesome tank top (it’s quite hard to find such a basic ribbed knit tank from a sustainable company), but size down, especially if you’re short!.

Love these! The material is soft and has just enough stretch, but holds its shape nicely after being on for awhile. It fits nicely, quite flattering the way it hugs curves. The length is nice, too. I can tuck it in but don’t have to depending on what I’m wearing it with.

I really like how these tanks are well-made. They are not balling up after wash or wear like some other tanks. The fit is great and they are versitile – can be tucked in easily or worn over a dress with a knot as a summer layer.

Complete waste of money. Junk. Usually wear a good medium or a Large. Ordered this in Large. It would fit my ironing board but it certainly won’t fit me. In fact, it’s so ridiculously cut that there is no way to even put it on.

I can attempt to stretch it with 2 hands on either side of the garment and there is still no “give”. If you could even put this on you’d need to wear an XXS. Complete waste of ten bucks. Going into the donation bag which is easier and cheaper than the hassle to return it during a pandemic winter.

Theses were sold at the actual nordstrom for $10. It was a decent/ ok purchase at that price. Now $20… at nordstrom rack??? nordstrom must be hurting these days to do such a thing. Hard pass now. Quality isn’t worth it.

I’m not sure how this tank got so many great reviews–or if I received a defective one? But this shirt is ridiculously tight on me. I really couldn’t even get it on. I’m a size 2/4, 34-B, and I buy mediums from Target, Old Navy, and Gap that fit with room to spare.

I had hoped that this one would be ideal to wear with leggings and cardigans because of the length. Rather than returning it, I’m going to donate it in hopes that a teeny-tiny girl can enjoy it!.

White blouses are often too sheer for my liking in a professional environments, but the front of this one is double-lined so it’s opaque. It has a nice neckline and length for under a blazer. It’s a good basic tank to have, and while it’s nothing spectacular, it’s very good for what it is: a work-friendly, nice quality, non-fussy tank.

Ann Taylor products tend to wash well and hold up over time, and I have no reason to think this is any different. Fit it true to size, and neither super fitted nor baggy—it doesn’t cling to the belly area, but also isn’t excessively flowy.

As a comparison, I find it to be significantly more fitted than the Essential Shirt.

I typically shop at Loft but was looking for a basic layering tank. I ordered my normal Loft size large and holy smokes, these fit so much smaller. They are also most definitely made for a straighter figure.

If you have hips, size up! While it is tight at the bottom, it is big in the armholes. Just a bad fit all around, and I’ll be returning them unfortunately.

This tank is a nice piece to layer under a blazer. One complaint that I have about layering tanks and blouses sold by Ann Taylor is length- the tops are usually toooooooo loooong creating issues with a lumpy bumpy look when tucked into skirts and pants.

This tank is not tooooooooo long, it just slightly long, but overall it gets the job done providing a silky look facing on the portion of the top facing forward.
