Product arrive more quickly than anticipated. I applied the marine wood sealer, using two coats as directed and we’ll see how long it lasts.

So far so good. It’s only been a few weeks since I purchased this product so keep that in mind. It applies very easy, I’m using it on my new cedar deck. It’s rained a little and I have noticed that the water on the cedar is beading up.

I’ll apply a second coat later this year.

This is not a good sealer. It might be easy to put on, which other reviewers mentioned in their writing, but it isn’t durable. It lasts a couple of years, max, here in the Midwest. Look for a spar varnish, a marine varnish, or a UV protectant polyurethane.

This isn’t the answer you’re looking for. If you want to compare it to other things, look at the ingredients.

This is awesome paint. I was looking for a polyurethane paint for a couple of car restoration projects, and I couldn’t find any. Krylon use to make a great polyurethane paint, but quit making it around 10 years ago.

I’ve used Interlux products on previous boat projects, and they are excellent products. Expensive, yes, but great products that seem to last, and hold their sheen, for a very long time. I’d like to see Wholesale Marine do a service to their customers by offering free shipping on everything.

The reason is because alot of states now require shipping to be taxed at the state rate, which, when Wholesale Marine adds on shipping costs to an order, the shipping cost actually costs more than what shows on the web page because the shipping is taxed on the final checkout screen on the web page.

The cost to Wholesale Marine to cover the free shipping would be easily recovered by simply raising the base cost on all products by around $1. 00 to $2. 00 per item. Wholesale Marine product costs are so good that this minor increase in cost would still be below what most other places are charging.

I’d be happy to pay a little extra for the product versus paying tax on shipping costs every time I make an order.

Brightside paint is widely recommended among boat builders and restorers. The video showing its application on Jamestown’s web site is very helpful. I have used it both on a wooden Glen-L Tuffy 14′ runabout I built, as well as on the restoration of a 60s fiberglass Sunfish sailboat.

It is important to allow the paint to hard cure for several days before use in the water. A week of dry, warm storage will do this. Be very cautious with the fumes – I first applied this in a paint booth with a good mask, but still suffered from the fumes for months afterwards, mainly through constant sinus problems.

I should have ventilated the booth better, but eventually discovered the rolling and tipping method which worked better than spraying anyway. But this too must be ventilated. I set up a box fan that blows across the work, which eliminates most fumes and keeps the bugs away too.

Temperature and humidity play a role in quality and drying time, too. Best is to do the work in a shaded area like an open garage or workshop, out of the sun and away from dust and bugs. I generally use two coats of primer before Brightsides.

I have used both Interlux primer as well as oil-based Killz from the local hardware store. The Interlux primer covers somewhat better, but both yielded similar final results. As with all such jobs, it is all in the prep work, ie sanding.

The primer should be sanded smooth to avoid orange peel in the final coats. I blow off the dust with my shop vac, then do a quick swipe with denatured alcohol. Paint soon after priming as the primer is like a sponge and absorbs moisture from the surrounding air.

I live in North Carolina on a lake so the humidity is an issue. Wet sand 600 grit between final coats to get a mirror finish.

This product is overpriced at $30/qt. It can be purchased elsewhere for $18. 00. I was trying to buy a gallon rather than a quart. After searching for prices which were about $35/gal. elsewhere, I found this.

I assumed it was a gallon and did not read carefully enough. So, it was my fault for not being thorough.

When I saw the price for this paint, I thought the price was too good to be true. In spite of looking I didn’t spot the reason for the low price. As soon as I received the product, it was obvious. This is a quart, not a gallon.

Of course, if you look closely enough it does say quart way down in the information. Stupid me for not digging deeper. However, that information needs to be in the product title, “Quart of Zinsser 03104 Perma-White.

Best mildew resistant paint, that i have found. Paint it white and it stays white. No green or black stuff growing on it. I live 30 minutes north of New Orleans, where the humidity stays high and it is hard to keep outdoor areas from growing green algae, but this stuff works.

Goes on and cleans up like any other latex paint.

Looks great and sealed any small blurbs in the concrete! It still looks great and stops any water from coming in-10 years later! Time for another coat of Kilz!!!!.

Comfortable, clean and dry all year round. I also just got into the rental business and will be using kills on all of my projects. I am thrilled with The finished product that I receive from using killz products and I am looking forward to trying their other products.

This spring as soon as it was warm enough I painted my ugly grey exposed foundation with Watertite white sealant paint. There was a lot of uneven masonry in the concrete but using white color really deflects your eyes from those imperfections and gives the illusion of smooth.

My green hostas now pop with the background color so bright! Gave my centenarian house an instant facelift. We put two coats on to endure Maine winters but honestly one coat probably would have done the trick.

It’s a little pricey but worth it. I’m planning to order more to paint the inside walls of my entire basement this winter. Incidentally, I purchased my Watertite from Zoro 2 yrs or more ago and stored the cans in my basement as I never got around to the project.

Wasn’t sure if it would still be good to go— my handyman was very pleased that the consistency and quality of the product was good as new. Well done, Zoro!.

Held up to Expectations. After our basement was flooded last year, I sealed our concrete block walls with this paint. no signs of moisture. mold or mildew. Just painted the wood floor of our screened back porch.

A first class quality waterproof Paint, easy to use for an OAP. SADLY WHEN TIN ARRIVED, DESPITE THE STRONG TAPE AROUND THE TIN HAD BEN DROPPED AND A QUANTITY OF PAINT HAS ESCAPED,AFTER CLEAING UP THE ESCAPED PAINT I WAS ABLE TO USE IT FOR THE JOB I HAD PURCHASED IT FOR.

MAYBE A STRONGER TAPE WOULD HELP TO PREVENT ANY MORE PAINT FROM ESCAPING. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED THE DAMAGED TIN, BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TRANSFER IT ONTO THE COMPUTER.

Easy to apply, smells wierd, definitely need good ventilation. It’s like applying oil based gloss to your walls but it dries matt. We have a cellar that gets bad water seepage through the walls to the front.

It forms salt crystals on the brickwork. We applied this paint about 5 years ago to some of the walls. Had to knock and scrape all the old render paint and crystals off before painting, then followed instructions on tin.

It’s still dry and so recently did more walls with a new tin.

Had a Victorian basement which had been damp-proofed and nicely decorated about ten years ago. The damp-proofing had started to fail with damp patches appearing on the plaster. Having been advised it was probably only condensation (by an “expert”), I used a dehumidifyer to dry it out.

Which it did do, but after a few days the damp patches returned in the same places, confirming the damp-proofing was failing. Rather than spend the estimated £5k to completely re-do the basement, I bought Watertite, being sure to apply it per the instructions, applying multiple coats.

At first it seemed to work well, but unfortunately after about a week you could see small beads of water pushing through. To be fair, the product states it’s limitations regarding the amount of hydrostatic pressure it can realistically be expected to hold back.

However, not being an expert in hydrostatic pressure, it’s not until you try it that you’ll find out whether it will work for you or not.

I’ve been thinking of changing my gutters and facias, but with the current cost of living, decided to see if I could paint them instead. I tried this paint, Colour : Grey, satin, hand painted by medium sized brush.

I can’t fault it, went on thick and could stretch a bit, very little dripping. Dried quick, and waterproof. A 2. 5l can covered all my gutters and facias, covering over the old faded brown gutters and painted facia, in just one coat, without undercoat primer great paint.

(I tested the paint on a section of rwp for two months to see any effects by weather without under coat etc. ). I even brought the white option to paint the soffits. Ok you have to watch out for dripping from the brush, as its a little runny just don’t overload the brush!.

The paint covers very good with a roller but be aware the paint dries quick!.

I’m writing this review to put the record straight. I rated the paint as excellent based on my experience of painting my dark wooden front door with it about 4 years ago. Although the price appears to be expensive there is no need to buy primer or undercoat as this paint does the lot.

I used about 500ml to apply 3 coats to both sides of the door and have kept the remainder for touching up although it has not been necessary to do any repairs. I was prepared to apply 3 coats on the basis that primer, undercoat and gloss would have been needed for any other paint although after 2 coats it had covered over the dark stained door quite well.

I’m not sure why others have not been happy with this paint but I would highly recommend it and can vouch for its longevity.

Can’t comment on whether it will last 10 years, or even 1, as job just finished. Ignore the reviews regarding how dark it is, I thought this at first too as the first coat was almost black – this paint needs really well stirred as the darker pigment settles on top, I would recommend using an old wooden spoon and at least 30 seconds of stirring making sure you get all the paint from the bottom.

The second coat completely covered the black with a grey exactly as shown on the tin – so good coverage. Also found it dried pretty quickly, though it was used on a nice warm day. Quite pricey though so only 3 stars for value.

In the past I’ve used latex primers, alkyd primers and other recommended wood sealer/primers to prep for outdoor painting and have seen the effects of weather on my exterior home projects including porches and railings.

The last bunch of years i’ve been using Flood CWF-UV water based as either a sealer without paint and as a primer under exterior latex paint. One project was a raised boardwalk made of treated 2×6 lumber.

The Flood held up under traffic and the paint stayed on nicely. I just go with the Flood now. It seems to penetrate better than the primers. The natural dries slightly yellowish. If I get drips I can see the runs but it always dries perfectly.

I’m no expert but I much prefer the Flood for exterior wood projects now.

Recently had a small porch built off our 100 year old cottage. The wood used was treated having lots of wood knots, which are very difficult to cover up. My wife wanted painted but I knew that just regular paint wouldn’t cover up the knots.

I took a chance-so I bought KILZ® Waterproofing Semi-Transparent Stain. I thought nothing ventured nothing gained. To my wife’s surprise and joy the KILZ Waterproofing actually worked. The knots were gone! Now KILZ is my go to stain!.

So I picked this up in store because I needed a quick deck stain and sealer. There were three “colors” (tan, brown, dark brown) but all were the same type, tint base deck stain and sealer. I figured it would be colored already.

Think again. It’s just a semi-transparent sealer. There was not an employee anywhere around the paint department to mix in the stain color (why it’s not already mixed I don’t know, considering they advertise colors on the can).

Even if someone WERE available to mix in the stain color, you would not find out that you need that done unless you pop the can open, come here to read reviews, or scroll down pages of instructions to the *caution* section on the manufacturers site.

It says nowhere on the can that you must have the color added. Very misleading. I prepped my deck, was ready to start, popped the can open and was sorely disappointed. Now I have to make another trip back to the store to have color added or buy something else.

Such a waste of time and energy when all they needed was a little text on the can that says “make sure to get the color added before you leave the store” etc. I have yet to find out if the product is any good as I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to even go back and get it colored.

So frustrating.

We purchased 5 five-gallon buckets of this wood finish to treat 2 privacy fences that were recently pressure washed. After rolling for an afternoon, we decided to get an airless sprayer to complete the rest of the work.

This wood finish sprayed on well. It still looks pretty good after a few months. The neighbors behind the first fence we did compliment us on it and said they were planning on washing and staining their fence now also.

I wish this wood finish worked in one coat, rather than needed a follow-up coat so the fence doesn’t look blotchy. I would recommend using an airless sprayer with the product if you are putting on more than a gallon.

The only thing that disappointed me was that the buckets don’t have a built-in pop-out spout to aid in pouring. I have purchased 5-gallon paint buckets before from other manufacturers that have a little spout that pops out.

You need to buy an extra spout if you want to easily pour this product into a paint tray or sprayer bottle.

I am a (frustrated) amateur when it comes to staining wood. I have tried a half dozen different stains, and was not especially satisfied with any of them (not Behr products). However, THIS one is the only one to totally satisfy me with regards to ease of use, ease of clean-up, and beauty of finished product.

I have used the cedar naturaltone and the redwood. I used the stains to treat plain pine wood for raised garden beds and it worked perfectly. The beds look like more expensive wood at a fraction of the cost.

They are protected from water, sun damage, and mildew (OK, confession: mildew is not much of a problem here in Arizona!) I highly recommend this product, though I can’t comment on its durability yet as I’ve only used it for the last 2 months.

This product seems to work as advertised, but I’m not sure it’s been down long enough to give a good review (applied 2 weeks ago). The stain applied very nicely and it was the color I expected. It added a little color but allowed the wood grain to come through.

It dries quickly – so you have to work with a purpose. When the first rain came – water puddled up and didn’t absorb into the wood. The can did arrive damaged. It didn’t leak but it was definitely dented and bowed.

I’m surprised it didn’t leak.

Applied this exactly how the directions indicated onto a BRAND NEW deck, 6 months later it’s peeling and flaking off and looks like garbage. Absolute waste of money. Do not buy this product.

Very thin consistency makes it fairly difficult to use. Yesit did the job but with some difficulty. Still, the project came out fairly good.

However I expect it to be excellent just as every other total boat product I have used. I have had my 1965 CC constellation for 9 years now so my experience with total boat stuff is starting to be extensive.

I am pleased with everything about these products from the quality to the speed they are shipped. I go to to Total Boat first now to find what I need.

I just tried this out on a canoe paddle project. It was the first time I have used this wood sealer. Many wood sealers state that they are for indoor use. Obviously, needed one designed for both. I got excellent results with polyurethane finish coat.

Used this on some marine plywood, after staining, and before varnish. Two coats on the surface, three on the plywood edges. Solid wood trim pieces got two coats. You don’t have to sand between coats, and it dries within a couple hours (unless the temps are below 60 degrees, then it took longer).

After the last coat of sealer, you wait 24 hrs, give the parts a light sanding, and then you’re ready for varnish. First coat of varnish looks like the 4th or 5th. So, generally liked the stuff, except for the smell.

This is one smelly product! I use an organic vapor mask, and after a few days of working, the smell permeated through the mask. Had to get more filters! I’d give the product 5 stars if it didn’t smell so bad! But, overall it saved time (less coats of varnish), and money (cheaper than varnish).

We have a wood patio set from Ikea. Unfortunately the finish didn’t last and needed complete redo. Ikea was no longer selling the matching stain. This turned out good as it forced me to try this product.

After washing the set with some soapy bleach mixture I sanded all the top surfaces. Then applied the semi transparent stain and sealer in the custom mixed Sable color which is almost an exact match. The end result was amazing, looks better than new.

The key is making sure you don’t apply in direct sun as dries really fast. Aldo wet on wet if doing second coat. I don’t know how long it will last but should be much longer than the original finish.

Hello, I used Behr semi transparent stain on my deck after cleaning and prepping the surface. I applied 2 thin coats and it looked great. It was quite tacky for a long time as others have noted but this eventually resolved.

After the first winter the stain started to peel significantly and by the end of the first full summer it looked horrible. There is a portion of my deck that is covered and this has held up fine. I have now fully sanded the remaining surface in preparation of re-doing the project.

I am very reluctant to use this product again but need to do so to match the remaining covered deck surface. I would sure appreciate some advice and warranty coverage to repeat this process. Thanks so much.

I live in southern AZ, the sun makes any surface very hot. This stain begins to blister after 2 yrs. Then I have to sand the entire deck and benches before I can apply new coat. I use an air compressor to make sure the surface completely free of dust.

I use the recommended 2 coats, 24 hrs between coats. I apply this before our Monsoon season (starts early July) and it does really well repelling water. If you live in a part of the country where the temps are moderate, this stain may be perfect for you.

this works really well for a damp basement floor but gets dirty sooooo easily. i did the moisture test with a plastic bag and there was nothing after 2 days. you will need to go over it with floor paint if using for a floor.

I did a garage floor paint and it seems to be holding up well. just don’t expect to paint this on and be done. even on the wall section we painted it yellowed very quickly. you will need to paint over it again so maybe another product might have been better for me but the moisture barrier is really wht I got it for and that works so I am happy.

Acrylic is a good water proofing p product. Have used for many years.
