20 Best Water Conditioner For Betta (2023 Updated)

When I opened the box, the product had leaked out of the bottle thru a crack in the bottom. Wasn’t even enough left in the bottle to use it once. Not happy.

I did not realize there would be a difference in chlorine ridding products until I tried this for my betta. It provide the perfect balance for the water and the fish is never “shocked” when returning to the refreshed bowl.

Everytime I changed my daughters fish’s water with distilled water the thing would die. I thought this current fish would not make it after the last water change but it came back around. I bought this stuff the last go around and the fish had no issues at all!.

I’ve been using this for a 2-gallon filtered tank with a single betta for 2+ years now without any issues. The water is never cloudy and my betta has been healthy for the past couple of years. Plus, it’s inexpensive, which is nice.

Been using this for my betta for a while now and he’s alive and thriving, so I can only assume that this is working well for him! The bottle is a good size and lasts quite a bit of water changes. It’s about 3 drops per cup, which is about 48 drops per gallon.

I have used this for almost a month and the fish is doing well. My only complaint is that the water clouded up, so I had to add a Fluval water conditioner and now the tank is in great shape.

This product is a must have for any aquarium owner. The first reason is emergencies happen. An ammonia spike leads to a nitrite spike and potentially dead fish. One dose buys 48 hours to fix things. The second reason is you can change out the filter media without worry if you use this when cleaning the tank.

No matter how you slice it, changing a filter cartridge means tossing away bacteria. This allows a complete media change (of mechanical media, not biological) and the bacteria can recover hopefully on the biological media that does not get replaced.

This can persuade growth in places other than a filter pad that gets tossed once a month. Prime allows the bacteria to recover with zero harm to the fish. A third reason is when adding fish this all allow the bacteria 48 hours per dose to adjust.

As long as the filters and tank are established 48 hours will be all you need. Test to make sure and add a second dose when needed. The best reason is this does not interfere with tank cycling at all.

The bacteria that eats ammonia will still grow and the same with nitrites. Products that just neutralize ammonia temporary stall the process. This will not. It is perfect to use for a sudden spike, cleanings and adding stock to make sure all are healthy.

This just buys time but it is absolutely essential to have.

The big bottle. This is what you need to keep up with all your water changes. It really is safe. Ive doubled and trippled the recommended dose. With no issuse at all. Just add tap water in a bucket, put in your needed dose, wait one hour and your all set to add your new water to your tank.

Frequent partial water changes solves so many problems in your tank. This may not be the greatest water conditioner out there. But defenetly enough to get the job done.

I use this product with every single water change and every time I replace water due to evaporation or whenever I clean my aquarium. It’s a great product that I cannot live without when taking care of my beloved Betta fish – Finley.

It dechlorinates the water and makes it perfectly safe for my Betta. It is a very good product and it’s a great price and available at my local shopping center.

This stuff is great not just for betta fish it works for guppy fish and aquatic turtles to. It’s even better than the one for turtles because it doesn’t cause the water to have a slight green color and it adds stress reducing coat for easily stressed turtles.

It’s no to slimy. I don’t need a lot of water for my baby turtles so I only fill 1/3 water for my 10 gallon tank. I fill up four one gallons empty jugs with tap water add enough drops let the jugs sit for 1 week before I use the water.

This way you can insure that the chemicals from this stuff is not to strong, the water is safer to use and the water will not be cloudy.

Had cloudy water in a recently cycled 10 gallon tank. Did water changes but was still cloudy. Yesterday, I vacuumed the gravel and did a 50% water change, and water was still cloudy. Picked this up last night, put in the specified 5ml, water was 90% clear this morning.

Dosed it again and now the water is crystal clear. Washed out the sponges with some aquarium water, and was shocked at how much dirt came out. For the negative reviews you see here, be advised that this product won’t work for bacterial blooms.

This is for cloudiness due to small particles that aren’t able to be caught by the filter. The product works by making those small particles attract each other and combine into larger particles that can be filtered out of the water.

If you can see the particles in the cloudy water, this will work. If your water just looks like someone spilled milk in it, you likely have a bloom, and this will NOT work for that issue, you have to kill the bacteria or just let nature run its course.

Was skeptical at first, having never tried a Clarifier before and reading the reviews on them. I must say I was surprised, I used it in a 10g and 29g. The 10g cleared right up. With the 29g I used it and within 24hrs it would be cloudy again.

But after reading up online before about cloudy water, it states if a Clarifier doesn’t work then you probably have another problem with the tank. Sure enough within the week one of the fish showed signs of a bacterial infection.

Is it the cure all for clear water? No. Will it work great for things like trapping the debris after a filter rinse? Yes. The only reason I gave it 5 stars is, I bought the 16oz (largest bottle, besides the industrial size) and the top leaks.

A lot. First time after opening it, I went to shake it and it went everywhere! Got in my eyes and stuff. But since I didn’t see any skull and crossbones on the bottle I didn’t do more than a rinse as it didn’t hurt.

Just a shame that I need another bottle or stir it before use.

I have the aqueon 2. 5 gallon tank with one beta in it. I have struggled for months to get it to stay clean and nothing worked. I went to petco to buy a new filter system to see if that was my problem.

I also picked up this water clarifier to see if it would help. Within 10 minutes my tank water went from dark green to crystal clear. I will be heading back to petco to return the filter system I bought since I won’t need it! Definitely would recommend.

We have used several types of water treatments and Seachem Safe has turned out to be the most cost effective item to date! You don’t need alot of the product to ensure your water is safe for fishes and the high concentration lasts a long, long time.

We’ve practically eliminated the runs to the LFS to get de-chlorinator with Seachem SAFE. I recommend this product for anyone who intend to keep fishes healthy and please do read the label as it’s not a pre-made/ready to use solution.

The dry version of Prime. and even more condensed than the last version of Safe. This amount should last a long time. Prime/Safe are known as the “go to” water conditioner among fish keepers in the hobby.

I’ve never had an issue with it. Tip: obtain a small smidgen spoon to administer smaller doses for 5 gallon buckets.

Tried SAFE instead of bottled liquid dechlorinators. Very happy with results. Easy to use, super concentrated, wont use liquids again. Seachem a trusted brand

I have been using the API Tap Water Conditioner for 11 years since I first started keeping goldfish as pets. I found that the conditioner works like a charm without having to age water first. When I clean the fish tank and add new water from the tap, I pour in 3/4 to 1 capful of conditioner for 40 gallons.

I usually do a 80% water change for the goldfish. I know some people say to just do a 25% weekly water change but goldfish are very dirty and it also depends on how many you have. There is enough beneficial bacteria in the filter and decorations and my fish are very healthy and happy.

The solution is highly concentrated and a little goes a long ways. I highly recommend this product and use it in conjunction with Stress Zyme and Stress Coat each time I do a water change. They work well together hand in hand like a well fitting glove.

I have both a 150 gallon reef tank and a 50 gallon planted, freshwater tank. For the reef tank I make rodi water, but for my freshwater tank I’ve always had better luck using tap water. API tap water conditioner gives me confidence my water is free of chorine and chloramine when I do water changes.

I have two different tanks and for my glofish tank I use this product. I just started using it and it seems to be working fine. It is somewhat of a small bottle, therefore might run out sooner. What I do not like is that there are no measurements like other ones.

I don’t know how PetGuys. com does it, but man these prices are impossible to beat! I picked up a couple of bottles because of the low cost and ease of ordering! I’ve been using this for over 6 months, doing monthly cleaning and water changes.

I’ve been using Aqueon Betta Bowl Plus for over two years now, but I decided I wanted to get more cheap, but good, water conditioner. I’ve always trusted API very much, so as soon as I found that out, I was sold.

It works well, has barely any scent because that can be an issue, an it does not seems to faze my Bettas in any way. This is a very cheap and great alternative to the Aqueon brand. Also, some brands give you a small bottle and tell you to use tons for each gallon! This, on the other hand, does not.

You only have to use a very small amount, so this bottle should last you at least 3-4 months or so. I highly recommend this for starter Betta keepers, and my female and males are fine with it.

I rarely use this API Splendid Betta water conditioner. What I use every single day for my fish rescue of over 50+ aquatic animals is either the API Tap Water Conditioner Super Strength for my rescues in very large tanks (a 16 oz bottle treats up to 9,460 gallons), and a small bottle of API Tap Water Conditioner for small tanks (a 1 oz bottle treats up to 480 gallons!).

This, however, only treats up to 15 gallons, and does not have any special minerals added, unlike Aqueon Betta Bowl Plus (a 4 oz bottle can treat almost 24 gallons AND has trace minerals, making your fish happier, healthier, and show off prettier colors!).

I honestly wouldn’t recommend this stuff unless you like to waste your money. :(.

I love this water conditioner, and so does Korii (my red, male Crowntail betta). This works very well in my small tank just for him. When I first got him he was a bit lazy, but after adding this to his water he instantly perked up.

I’ve been having the same bottle for about 4 months and it still has some left. That can save you money! It also keeps the tank clear, guess it really does help kill ammonia. I love this product snd would suggest anyone to buy it.

We love the betta water conditioner from Zoo Med. I used this every after I cleaned our fish tank,followed the instructions of how much drops to put in and somestimes I put less. It works wonders. It doesn’t leave our tank foggy,it kept water clear.

Our 3 yr old betta gets relaxed after and fins healed after weeks.

I have used many water conditioners on the Beatles that I have owned through The years. Nutrafin betta plus is my absolute favorite. I have two bettas right now both of whom are over a year old. They have no fin rot, their slime coat is good, and I definitely a tribute some of their good health to this good product.

I really like Nutrafin Betta Plus Water Conditioner. I use it with all four of my bettas however the small bottle pretty much goes by pretty quickly and that can add up quite a bit. I decided that I just use a little of the Nutrafin with a few drops of Seachem Prime which actually removes ammonia, Nutrafin does not.

I think it is better to use Nutrafin Betta Plus Water Conditioner as a supplemental water conditioner along with one like Prime that removes ammonia from the water. Just a little of Nutrafin goes a long way.

I know. One of my boys is a tailbiter and the tropical almond extract has been healing his fins nicely.

While this may condition the water. It does not clear a cloudy tank. I used it for a 1 gallon tank with fresh water and it was cloudy the next day. I feel like it excelerated the cloudiness. Went with a Tetra brand to clear the tank up and it is great!.

Before i used this product I had cloudy water and fish waste all over my aquarium. It was horrendous. I tried everything to make the water clear, many different formulas, gravel vacuums, I tried everything.

But a plecco, gouarmai, and crayfish create a lot of waste. Tried to put ghost shrimp in to eat the waste, but my gouarmi and crayfish made short work of them. This product saved my fishes lives and my sanity! Thank you so much! Excellent price.

I usually like this brand of aquarium products,. My tank had a slight cloudiness to it so I purchased this it was supposed to make water crystal clear, in approximately 3 hours. NO!. not only did it not clear it up but it made my water SUPER cloudy! for days.

I couldn’t even see thru the water. What a hassle, so I ended up having to do almost a complete water change. So I will not be buying this again.

TETRA AQUASAFE: It does what it states on the container. Your water will go a blue colour depending on the amount you put in the pond. It does not harm the fish if you accidentally get the mixture wrong.

I have been buying this product for some years now and 5 litres has lasted me two seasons with water changes taking place.

I use it to prep tap water for use on all my indoor plants, especially the jewel orchids. Previously used the API heavy metal neutralizer for my small fish pond with plants. Same effect, may the same product? Either way, both seem to work well, fish and plant are thriving.

This product is a must have in your aquarium supplies. I’ve used NovAqua for over 20 years. It is the best and economical water conditioner on the market, in my opinion. I have it on hand at every water change and also during any times of stress in fish and with fish transport.

This product has been around for many years. I’ve used it for many years and it is a trusted product. Local fish stores don’t carry it anymore. Unlike some other products, it does not cause cloudy water because of chemical reactions.

Great value, 100% effective, proper price (as of 6-17-17) i have been using novaqua plus for many many years. Whats better then a water conditiner and slime coat in one I wouldnt go back to another brand kordon continually seems to live up to my expectations.

This gets the job done as a water conditioner with a very small amount of minerals in it for your shrimp. However, it is my opinion that this is severly overpriced. Minerals for shrimp from specialty shrimp specific products are very cheap by comparison and generic water conditioner is also very cheap by comparison (on a per ml or gram basis).

It requires 5ml (1tsp) per gallon, if you follow the instructions on this bottle and depending on how full the bottle is when you receive it, which means you only get roughly 39-40 gallons from this bottle.

If you have two 20 gallon tanks that’s roughly ~$6 per refill. Meanwhile, if you purchase the conditioner and minerals seperate you can easily get over a hundred gallons at that price. Second point, I mentioned “a very small amount of minerals” because if you use RO water and test before/after you’ll notice this impacts TDS by less than 20ppm.

Most shrimp prefer a TDS around 150-200ppm, but tolerate around 100-300, so you’ll need to buy minerals anyway (this is also so you can regulate GH/KH). Finally, it’s a fine product if you’re in a rush and need something now, but not fiscally a good solution long term.

Even though we had a filter in our small Betta tank, the water became a little cloudy after we added the fish to the tank. Within a day of using this water conditioner, the water was clear. Our fish happily swims around his tank and he’s eating, so all seems well.

I have tried other betta water conditioners and this is the best I’ve found. We have our betta in a 2. 5 gallon tank and it only takes 1 tsp of this to do the job. I should mention we also run the water through a Brita filter too as our city uses a lot of chlorine.

I won’t use any other conditioner anymore. I also highly recommend the API Betta Fix. I add a tsp to every water change just to be safe.

My God, this product is trash. I performed a full water change today and vacuumed gravel, cleaned filter, did everything I should do and the water is murky. Changed from fish flakes to pellets as I heard they don’t murky up my water.

O used this water conditioner SOOOOO many times today. I used the right amount and even did 3 doses, it sucks. Does absolutely nothing. Do not waste your money on this.

This water cleaner workes really well. My fish tank water before using the solution was an orange color from my driftwood and algae. A few minutes after adding the solution, the water became clear again.

I had not realized how dark the water was until I used the product and saw how bright my tank became! Before purchasing, I was concerned the cleaner would harm my fish, but I am excited to say they are all thriving!.

Product worked wonderful. Only thing i didn’t care for was the instructions call for a certain amount of drops per gallon. However the flip top lid didn’t work well for making individual drops. It came out rather fast and i ended up using a syringe for good measurement.

Worked fine for my 75 gallon tank but someone with a smaller tank may need to measure by ML rather than drops.

Small bottle for the price. Not sure if this glow fish specific bottle offers anything different then regular fresh water fish options. Need to add frequently. Directions say it may take time to see a change.

Though it works, I felt uncomfortable adding this to my fishes water. Shouldn’t they naturally have color and “glow?” IDK. If that doesn’t bother you, it’s a good buy. Not a fan.
