20 Best Upscaler For Retro Consoles (2023 Updated)

mClassic full test/review I purchased this item to enhance 3D viewing as my 4K TV, Blu-ray player, and 4K Blu-ray player all support 3D playback. The unfortunate drawback is that when connected to the 4K Blu-ray player HDCP will not allow content to go directly to the TV thus you have to add a HDMI switch box to connect your devices to then connecting the mClassic to the output then to the TV.

After my initial tests I have decided at this time not to utilize this method. Following are the equipment and the content used. Equipment: Samsung TV – UN55JS8500 smart 4K/3D. This TV use’s the one connect mini along with active shutter 3D glasses.

Samsung 4K/3D Blu-ray player – UBD-KM85C. Sony 1080p 3D Blu-ray player – BDPS570. Content: Mortal Engines 4K/Blu-ray combo. Mortal Engines 3D Blu-ray (UK import). I used this title as the picture is reference quality (4K disc).

Justice League Snyder cut DVD. Used this for a current DVD release. T2:Judgment Day ultimate edition. This is a vintage DVD release Thx certified picture/sound, Dolby digital. Results: Mortal Engines: Used both Blu-ray players for comparison.

Unable to use the mClassic on the Samsung but it is compatible with the Sony Blu-ray. 4K disc is clean with HDR. Picture is outstanding. The Blu-ray played in the Sony was upscaled to 4k using the mClassic with the only noticeable difference being no HDR on the Sony.

Details were just as clean as the 4K disc. As for 3D, both players were equal but only 1920×1080/24 fps resolution. Justice League Snyder cut DVD: Slight bump in brightness but no overall enhancement in picture quality.

(Upscaled to 4K). T2:Judgment Day ultimate edition DVD: Slight bump in brightness but no overall enhancement in picture quality. It did over brighten the white lettering on the opening credits. (Upscaled to 4K).

Final thoughts: If you have a 4K TV but still have and old (or new) Blu-ray player, the mClassic will upscale a 1080p disc and a DVD to 4K however for it’s price point you’re better off purchasing a 4K Blu-ray player unless you have an expensive Blu-ray player you’ve purchased in the past (i.

e. a $600 Oppo) and you’re on a budget. Since the only Blu-ray player compatibility is the Sony, that’s where it will stay for the present time. I’ve purchased all of my equipment from pawn shops so my investment isn’t over the top as I’m on a budget just like anyone else.

If you find the mClassic on sale (as I did) or you have the need then by all means grab one. It just sucks that you have to use a HDMI switcher to utilize the mClassic on 4K Blu-ray players and game consoles that support 4K native playback due to HDCP.

***Update #1*** After posting my review I decided to watch some DVD content on the Sony Blu-ray player. I put in Ratchet and Clank and as usual trailers started playing. Kubo and the Two Strings came on which I am familiar with (3D) and my jaw dropped.

I know Quantum you’ll ding me for not pressing the info button on my TV’S service remote but the mClassic upscaled the DVD to 4K and it looked awesome. Next I put in Snake Eyes: G. I. Joe Origins DVD and it too was upscaled to 4K and looked awesome.

Now I don’t know what WB’s deal is with Snyder’s JL cut but the DVD looked better played in the Samsung 4K player vs the Sony Blu-ray with the mClassic. There is even a difference between the 4K UK import vs the US 4K release and I have to give the import stars vs the domestic.

Obviously the source content is going to be key in how the device performs. I will be posting another update as I am going to pick different content to view both Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray along with some DVD content.

***Update #2*** Watched 2 pieces of content. A dvd-r copy of one of my movies which is a complete copy of the original disc and Dunkirk 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD. Dunkirk was a no brainer with the Sony/mClassic combo upscaled the Blu-ray and DVD to 4k.

I did notice the DVD was a bit softer vs the Blu-ray. This must be a “WB” thing as both DVD’s (Snyder JL) showed softness. As for the dvd-r it did upscale however the codec’s used when making the disc did introduce some judder but nothing that would make it unwatchable.

I also found my old HDMI switch box and gave it a try with the 4K Blu-ray player and no go. It’s an old box and would need newer one to use the mClassic with all my devices. For now it will remain connected to the Sony Blu-ray.

The mClassic is a plug-and-play device that uses a graphics processor and goes between your console and HDMI cable, taking the images from your console and then using effects to make everything look a lot better.

And it really works. It is powered by a Micro-USB to USB 5V cable. It’s simple to hook up and just takes a few minutes. Plug in the hdmi cable from your console into the mClassic, then out to your TV.

Then turn on your console and you’re good to go. The switch on the side of the mClassic let’s you go back and forth from processing on, to processing off, so you can see the difference for yourself. It really takes the rugged outlines and edges away and the definition is greatly improved.

Takes some pictures for yourself and compare the difference. It’s definitely noticeable. It’s really just an easy, quick and cost effective way to make your old games look a lot better. It’s also one of the easiest ways to improve the picture quality of retro games on 4K TVs.

It even works to make retro games on newer consoles look better. So if you don’t want to get all tech-savvy with more expensive ways to do basically the same thing, this just might be your best option.

I was skeptical about this device. I bought one and tried it out. Let me start by saying, you do not want to bother with it for modern consoles. It will look a little better but nothing significant. I use it on the Nintendo 64, PS2, GameCube, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 and occasionally the Switch.

PS4 and Xbox One do not benefit enough from it. I also like that it features a switch that allows for you to force the aspect ratio. This is great for older games. I’ve done quite a few videos on this item and they are generally favorable.

Dark games do not benefit much. Colorful games on the consoles I mentioned, do make an improvement. Please note that you want ensure that you are using the native resolution of the console. I set my PS3 and X360 to 720p.

Everything else, I get to 480p before I use this device. For PS2 users, you will want to ensure that you console is outputting 480p or the mClassic make interlace the video to a point you won’t recognize it.

The GameCube and Xbox have a solid 480p-supported library. Overall, I really like this device. Mine did fall apart, but the company replaced it for me at no charge. The graphical improvements are worth it, in my opinion.

Having seen this system reviewed by youtubers in the US over a year ago, I’ve wanted this system so badly. Was so pleased to see its release in the UK and ordered without a second thought. The games on the system are all fun to play and have a very good mix of games.

It also comes with two controllers, a hdmi and a ac to usb ( You need a charge plug). So far all great, and Happy. But as I started loading up my SD card with roms, some megadrive, some snes and then some arcade mame.

I suddenly discovered none of the Mame roms would load. So I visited youtube to see any recent comments, and lo and behold many who have bought the UK version are all complaining about the same issue.

For some reason the US version is perfect. Now don’t let this put you off, this minor hiccup has only just been discovered. We should hopefully be told a solution. However if you buy this system literally for what it is, then I’d give it a perfect score.

But retrobit know who their target audience are, so I would hope us UK users haven’t been left out of using mame roms.

Blurry video and poor emulation take away from nice game selection I just purchased v1. 1 of the Super Retro-cade (Fall 2020). While a somewhat decent unit with a nice selection of games (if you like shooters, platformers and brawlers), there are glaring issues that ruin the gaming experience.

– Many of the games stutter. This varies from making the games annoying (i. e. Mystic Riders) to unplayable (i. e. Double Dragon, Mystic Riders). – All arcade games are blurry instead of sharp due to the mandatory smoothing filter.

The smoothing filter cannot be disabled on these (only on the console games) and makes the games look terrible. This is a major concern. Hoping these issues can be addressed with a firmware update as it’s very difficult to recommend it otherwise.

I realize that this unlikely due to the age of the unit (even though it’s still actively sold). Other features I would like to see added are 240P output support for CRTs and the ability to use non Retro-bit controllers/arcade sticks.

I’m giving this console a 5 Star because of its quality for the price. The console comes with 2 controllers, the power supply and an HDMI cable. The controllers look a bit cheap at first, but not long after using them, you find they feel more like a modified SNES controller.

They could of used a different color scheme then red and white, but the physical design of the console doesn’t have much to do with the specs and what it can do. I do like the fact that comes with 90 video games composed of classic arcade games, NES and SNES, but the best part is that you can easily download more and add well over 8,000 games from over a dozen game consoles such as NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance and more.

Admittedly there are better consoles out there for around the same price or only a little extra, such as a Jailbroken PS3, a Jailbroken Wii or you can buy a Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi or some other one board computer, but from the jump the Retro-Bit Super Retro-Cade offers more ability than the NES Classic, Super NES Classic, Sega Genesis Flashback and PlayStation Classic (Accept the greatest game of all time Final Fantasy VII), as roms are very easy to load up on the Super Retro-Cade, allowing someone to play ALL NES, SNES and Sega Genesis games with ease.

I recommend this game console even if you do have a high end gaming PC with HyperSpin or a Raspberry Pi with Emulation Station.

The A500 Mini is a fantastic little package for anyone looking for a reasonably straightforward way of reliving some of their late 1980s, early 1990s 16 Bit gaming experiences with the Amiga home computer.

Things are very well presented in a thoughtfully designed box which is a great aid to safely transporting the A500 Mini. In addition to the twenty five games included on the machine it is relatively easy to add more via a USB stick once downloaded from web sources such as Lemon Amiga.

One minor criticism from me would be that the three USB ports on the machine isn’t quite enough for me as I usually require a keyboard plugged in as well as the mouse, gamepad and USB stick. The use of a USB hub is a must for me, a powered one being recommended.

I’ve really enjoyed playing old favourites like Stunt Car Racer, Speedball 2 and Kick Off 2 that are included. Of those I’ve downloaded thr World War 3 submarine simulator “Tom Clancy’s Red Storm Rising” by MicroProse has been a brilliant blast from the past.

It’s still early days for this product and it could benefit from some tweaks but there have already been two firmware updates since my purchase so things look good on that front.

Really impressed with the A500 Mini so far. It will definitely bring back good memories and put a smile on your face. Everything is just right and well thought out. From the retro packaging, to the build quality of the A500, look and feel of the accessories to the slick menu system.

Loading your own games via WHDLoad is very easy. All the ones I’ve loaded have worked. Prior to buying this I had previously setup a Raspberry Pi and emulated an Amiga with Amiberry, installed Cloanto roms and used RetroPie & WhdLoad.

This was quite a bit of messing about, it worked well for a bit, but eventually the software stopped working and I couldn’t get it back up and running. In my view the A500 mini (which uses a lot of the above software) gives a plug and play experience without the pain of all the set-up of a Raspberry PI route.

Plus there’s no noisy fan sound like my Raspberry Pi. When I ordered through Smyths shortly after the machines release date I received a USB stick in the delivery box that looks like a blue floppy disk which is really cool.

They do not advertise this, so you may not receive one, but it is one reason that ordering from Smyths might be worth giving a go early on.

A great little retro ‘console’ at a good price, as Smyths also provided a USB classic blue ‘floppy disc stack’ style drive included. Comes with instructions guide, describing how you can download in and fill up with so many of your favourite classics further to the mixed bag built in, direct from the Retro Games games own website! Some of the downloads didn’t work initially that will now, since their firmware updates.

On top of the computer ‘tank’ style mouse – just as with every Amiga CD32 back in the day, comes with gamepad included. This one having a far more comfortable form factor than the originally supplied Amiga branded gamepads.

To recreate the Amiga magic joystick action, no need to buy a USB joystick. Should you have say a PlayStation DualShock 4, the analogue sticks work perfectly as ‘joysticks’ without even hitting the PlayStation button – just plug and play! Couldn’t be happier with this little A500 mini.

Sheer retro nostalgia out of the box!!.

Hyperkin isn’t always the best choice for emulators, definitely avoid any of theirs that offers multiple systems combined into one. This however is a very solid bet and system. Ok, obviously it’s moronic to compare it an actual, genuine SNES system, but as far as emulators goes that play the physical games this is undoubtedly at the top of the list if you’re wanting to play SNES games.

Especially love the Scout controllers included. Their not a ripoff of the original SNES controllers, which is nice cause those sort never last and just feel cheap. Instead it’s quite simply Hyperkin’s interpretation of a SNES controller and it simply works and feels quite well, actually given it a moment to adjust to it it’s quite amazing even.

It’s durable feeling (even if a bit light) and the buttons click and feel like they should and are properly responsive when playing with them. The system itself is among a small handful (excluding multiple systems in one) that does some form of HD offering AND standard A/V outputs, usually it’s only one or the other and while obviously we only need one here it’s nice in case either of our current inputs are full we can then just use whatever is open.

Another big thing, and even more seldomly seen on emulators, is the eject button. Hate yanking out the cartridge? Feel like your going to accidentally break it at some point? Me too. A simple little addition that really helps a lot.

This little SNES emulator looks and feels like with a little basic care that it’ll likely last for many years to come, that it’s not only under $100 but better still is under $70 even. after taxes.

This small console plays Gameboy games, Gameboy Color games and (beta) Gameboy Advanced Games. It has played my Gameboy games and Color games beautifully. I have no issues with the controller I actually really appreciate it.

The GBA games that can be played are absolutely gorgeous on the TV. For example: Metroid Fusion is very impressive to look at and plays flawlessly. Colors and screen ratio are perfect. Because of the ability to play Gameboy games on the TV with the SQ, we have purchased more classic games and falling in love with the classics all over again.

Again, the beta for the GBA is just that so not all GBA games can be played but some will you just have to test them out.

The System Works; but it doesnt save High Scores like Nintendo Brand Systems do. So if having a High Score is important to you, then this system isnt for you. However? For the Price? Its still worth getting if you enjoy old school Nintendo games from the 1980s.

This works well and fulfills exactly what I needed it to do. My use case was fairly specific. I was trying to setup a universal Hue entertainment zone light sync, which was able to work on all inputs, from music, to antenna TV channels, to game consoles, computer, and an Apple TV playing streaming services.

It needed to have as close to zero lag as possible, and, unlike the recently-released official Philips Hue product, needed to support 4K HDR with at least the expanded 4:2:2 color space, while simultaneously outputting a lower quality signal to the Mac mini I had in the TV cabinet running the Hue Sync software.

Neither that computer, nor its USB capture card had any hope of processing a 4K signal, much less an HDR one. This device was able to maintain the full-quality signal for the TV outputted by the receiver, and at the same time, downscale to a non-HDR 720p signal to the Mac mini’s capture card with effectively no lag at all.

Entertainment zones can only have ten lights currently, so pushing more pixels than that just creates excess processor load and makes it very likely that the computer will not be able to maintain smooth, real-time light sync.

The first thing that was confusing was that the lower-quality video needed to be in the first output, which seemed a bit counter-intuitive if you’re used to thinking of the primary output is the main and better one.

Also, it didn’t work unless all the HDMI cables were the latest standard capable of the 18gbps link 4K HDR 4:2:2 video signals require. I wasn’t getting any output when the 720p Mac mini was using an older HDMI cable even though its output resolution should not have required it, which seemed odd and was not covered in the manual.

Finally, the drawbacks of this device and the reasons I docked it one star is due to two things: first, with this device, my setup lost the ability to have a single device control power for the others.

Previously, if you turned on, say, the Mac mini, it would cascade down and turn on the receiver, TV, and sound bar. Now you actually need to turn on the devices separately. Additionally, the device occasionally crashes when turning the TV on.

Never during use, so it’s not a huge deal, but without a power button or a remote, I need to reach around behind it and unplug it, then plug it back in. This happens about 20-30% of the time, which is often enough that I’m thinking of putting it on a smart plug, the creating an automation which turns this device on and off when the TV is turned on or off, which I think will resolve that issue.

But overall, it’s an excellent device which fills a niche that I don’t believe any other device on the market does, at least at the time of this review.

This thing works great, but it has a few issues:1. There is no power button and it overheats so when you’re not using it, you need to unplug it. 2. It doesn’t always pick up the signal coming in. Sometimes when it is on and the incoming signal was turned of, turning the incoming signal back on will not sync up with this unit causing it to show no signal.

3. When it does pick up the incoming signal, sometimes it doesn’t quite interpret it correctly. It shows up as very blocky graphics until you unplug it. Almost like the buffer is corrupted. I think most of these issues are related to heat.

For future improvements the makers should add a power button and a case fan or large heatsink to keep this thing cool.

I upgraded my receiver to support 4K/Atmos surround sound. The problem that I had was that my firestick TV wont show 4K contents because my projector only supports 1080P with HDCP 1. 4. This box tricked the Amazon Firestick that its connected to a 4K TV with HDCP 2.

2. Now I can stream 4K/UHD contents with Atmos support. My connection 4K Firestick -> 4K/HDCP 2. 2 Receiver -> Orei XD-4000 -> 1080P/HDCP 1. 4 Projector. You need to force the resolution of your Amazon 4K firestick to 4K and not to auto.

You can do this by pressing << reverse and UP button of the remote for about 5 seconds and it will go to the series of resolution. Click continue when you get to the highest resolution. (3840 x 2160 @60hz).

Firestick does not support 4096 x 2160. The only issue I had was the manual that came with it is a bit confusing. The first time I connected it, it wont connect to my projector because the box was set to a non supported format and you need to reset it to factory default by holding the “Res” for about 5 seconds.

After it connects you can keep on pushing the “Res” until you get to the resolution that you wanted.

This is quite an impressive console. I’ve seen these over the years but I never got one until the other day. I had the Retron 3 HD, which was nice until the SNES portion went out. I also have the Retron 1 HD, SupaRetron HD and MegaRetron HD.

But, having all of those hooked up at once takes up too much room. I wanted another all in 1 solution to replace the Retron 3 HD, and this seemed like a logical step up from that console. Unlike those other consoles, this one uses emulation to play the games, which has advantages and disadvantages.

One advantage is that it will play some NES cartridges that won’t play on system on a chip hardware clones, like Afterburner and Gauntlet. I have both of those and neither work with SOC clones, but they run like champs on the Retron 5.

It’s also nice having a dedicated slot for Famicom games, since I own a handful of them and had to use an adapter for them previously. On the negative side, I haven’t been able to get any homebrews or reproduction carts to work on this, despite the box claiming they will.

I have a couple games I backed on Kickstarter and neither will work, but they will on some SOC clones. Also, the more recent licensed releases from Retro-Bit: Holy Diver, R-Type 2 pack and Jaleco Brawler’s pack won’t work.

As far as classic cartridges go, I had graphical issues with Ms. Pac-Man for the NES (black Tengen cartridge) and there was no sound when racing on Top Gear 2 for the SNES. Also, VirtuaRacing for the Genesis won’t work, but I really wasn’t expecting it to.

Still, with 130 cartridges tested, I have less than 10 that won’t work. I don’t own any GameBoy Advance cartridges, but I own original GameBoy and GameBoy Color carts and those work great. The ones enhanced for the Super GameBoy will play with the enhancements, such as special color schemes and border art, which is nice.

I’ve also tested some Master System games using the Power Base Mini adapter and they work great. So, the compatibility isn’t bad at all. The hardware itself is solid. I’ve not had any issues with the cartridge slots being too tight.

Though, I have a more recent release, the box has a 2021 copyright and it came with the latest firmware already installed. So, it’s possible they fixed those cartridge slot issues. I know they have worked on their pin connectors in recent years.

The controller the console comes with is hot garbage, but luckily I have lots of controllers, both classic and after market controllers to use. So, who is this console for? People like me. I have some old cartridges, some that I bought as far back as 25 years ago.

And I still buy cartridges for these systems. I just wanted to play them, I’m not hung up on the perfect gaming experience. I honestly couldn’t tell you if some of these game are running a little bit differently than they did originally.

I’m sure some are, but that really doesn’t bother me. I live in an apartment, so I don’t really have room for a CRT with a bunch of systems hooked up to it, I play games on my 55″ UHDTV in my living room.

This console does what I need it to, it runs my old cartridges. So, if you’re like me and you just want to play some good old games on a modern TV, this is the way to go.

Short answer is yes. It’s had a history of issues ranging from legality, bad software, poor performance compared to what they promised, and less than perfect build materials, but after 3 years from its initial launch I believe it’s safe to say they’ve finally delivered.

They want 100% compatibility with all games this system supports and at the beginning they missed their mark by lightyears. But after three years they’ve made leaps and bounds towards that promise and improved the running system immensely with their numerous software patches.

Though they still aren’t at 100% compatibility they’ve come much closer than ever before. Build quality increased, the HDMI out only option is a turn off for a lot of enthusiasts because they want to play on their old school tv, but this systems purpose and design is meant to appeal to the modern generation and is meant to bring retro gaming back into today’s living room.

There’s an immense retro gaming library to choose from and it’s just a shame some people only know what the PS4 or the Xbox One have to offer. I believe their choice in HDMI only was a good choice however would have been nice to include both options.

Plus with the availability of upscaling and to see these classic games in high definition is an experience in itself especially to anyone who grew up playing those games. BIG DRAW BACK though is there controller.

It’s not ergonomic, it’s not nice to the touch, it’s EXTREMELY loud and clicky and just not worth using but that’s my own opinion. I recommend getting original controllers which this system supports the use of either original NES, SNES, or even sega genesis controllers or if you have your hopes up for wireless gaming then I HIGHLY recommend 8bitdo’s line of Bluetooth controllers.

They have excellent build quality, wonderful performance (even though a bit hard to pair the first time), and are decently priced. All around the system is very impressive. They’ve still got room for improvement but all together I recommend the system to anyone who wants to dabble in retro gaming.

Awesome retro gaming system. So you blow on ur game, insert game to the correct slot, The RetroN 5 plays Game Boy , Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Famicom, Super Famicom, Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, and Mega Drive cartridges all in HIgh Definition baby! So what it actually does is emulate the game u enter so that you get a HD version on ur TV.

Also, you can plug in ur old original controllers add use them across all platforms!!! So play sonic on ur NES controller 😀 Now this system makes it worh buying those old video games once again. Im very satisfied with the Retron 5.

It looks pretty good and it works well as an emulator up to PS1 and a bit above. The screen is very nice and it suits 4:3 games great and it’s not bad at all for 3:2 games (with tiny black borders top and bottom).

The build quality is quite exquisite, buttons are nice and it does look like a premium device. A few negatives: – expensive; The chipset (SOC) it’s quite old and the performance is not up to par with the price.

You’re paying mostly for the premium build; – no wi-fi/BT built in; Yes, it comes with a dongle but it’s so bulky with the extra adapter you can only use it for short tasks; – it’s heavy; the aluminium shell, whilst premium, makes the device quite heavy and slightly uncomfortable for long sessions; – it’s prone to scratches; especially with the dark colours, any scratch or nick will be very visible.

Better not drop it on a hard surface; – creates annoying condensation; the case being metal, gets quite cold when not in use and when picking the device up with warm hands, creates immediate condensation where you touch it.

The dark colours are also very prone to fingerprints; – on my unit, the D-Pad registers fake inputs; mostly noticeable when playing games like Tetris with a hard-drop option (or at high speeds). I noticed my unit sometimes registers UP when pressing Left and Right or Left/Right when pressing down.

This behaviour can make games like Tetris unplayable but it can be fixed using the tape mod (apply some tape over the D-Pad contacts to avoid registering wrong inputs); – my unit seems to have a small issue where the bottom part of the screen is not glued well and it’s a bit raised and moves down under slight presses.

I believe this can be fixed easily but I haven’t looked into it. It might seem that the cons outweigh the pros but to be honest, I quite like it and I was aware about some of the negatives before buying.

It looks great and it works well if manage your expectations on how far can you push it. I recommend changing the microSD as soon as possible to something reliable (Samsung, Sandisk, Lexar etc. ) and changing the stock OS with 341Elec or ArkOS – the experience will be much improved.

This is my first dedicated retro handheld and I’m blown away by it. The metal enclosure feels premium and gives it a nice weight (not too heavy, but you probably wouldn’t carry it a shirt pocket). Everything I expected to work has done, and even some games I expected not to work have done better than I thought.

For example, Jet Set Radio for dreamcast even seems playable (although it does have minor hitching). Every PS1, SNES and GBA title has been flawless. Also I was plesently suppried by the inclusion of a 64GB SD card for games, which I don’t remember being mentioned in the product description (although I may have just missed it).

I can’t comment on the default out-of-the-box experiance as I flashed AmberElec on it before I even turned it on, but that’s so easy to do there’s no reason not to. Minor negatives: the wifi dongle is a bit unweildy with the USB C to A adapter.

I only use wifi for scrapping and transfering games, so it’s not been a big deal so far. The lack of bluetooth conectivity for audio is also a shame as I no longer have any wired headphones. Despite these minor gripes I’m going to leave the review as 5 star, because I knew about both of these issues before I bought it, and (so far) it’s delivered everything it promised to.

Let me start by saying the build quality on this thing is fantastic! It has a very nice weight and feels very well made. As for performance, I’m very impressed. It is almost as good as an overclocked RPi4.

Runs everything up to PlayStation perfectly, PSP is game dependant, same with Dreamcast – Soul Calibur is perfect with frame skip set to 1 and looks absolutely amazing on the fantastic, bright screen this thing has.

I have flashed 351ELEC at the OS image, although the one shipped is surprisingly good but I couldn’t get the included Wi-Fi dongle to connect. It worked with 351ELEC though and with the downloadable Epic-Cody skin it looks super slick and pro on my black shell.

I dropped rom sets with videos/screens/logos folders and gamelist. xml from a RPi build onto the rom SD and it was all picked up by the OS and works perfectly. If you’re considering buying a RG351MP just do it, everything about it is quality.

I purchased this to transfer some of my VHS to computer via HDMI. The quality was great, but the scaler cut about a 16th to 32nd off the bottom of my frame. If you don’t need that portion it is great.

The scaler didn’t stretch the frame in 480p SD mode, it was mostly 4:3. It looked great in 730p and 1080p. I’m sad it didn’t work for me. I returned the device looking for another one that doesn’t cut the frame.

Overall I think this is a good product, well made, has nice menu adjustment features, and does what you expect it to do for a scaler. CONCERNS: the company phone #’s and support email is no longer valid, including there domain gefentv.

com. Be careful when you adjust the output for the format you want. I accidentally hit a format our monitors can’t handle, and lost all ability to see the menu anymore. There is no button reset on the scaler, only in the menu.

So I would recommend that you take a picture of the menu and keep it with the manual in case you (or someone in your staff) makes the same mistake I did.

I bought this out of frustration with my TV not having S-Video and generally looking awful with composite. The scaler in my TV was very fast already, but this matches it and has far superior picture quality.

I have used it with N64 and NES so far. In composite you can get away with turning sharpness up to 5 before you start seeing artifacts, S-Video I put it at 45 and it looks good. It would be nice if there was some sort of scanline emulation to make games look a bit like they did on CRTs, but extra processing just leads to higher latency which is the last thing anybody (sane) wants.

Menu map: Decent options in the scaler’s menu. You can adjust aspect ratio in there if the TV/monitor does not support it. Contrast Brightness Finetune>Hue, Saturation, Sharpness, Noise reduction Color Size> Full, Overscan, Underscan, Letterbox, Panscan Output, varius resolutions, including european 576P/I Audio>Source: L/R and Optical, Delay: 40, 110, 150.

The Trio is a duplicate of the SNES, NES and Genesis cartridge consoles combined into one. The system seems to work with the games I have tried on it and it is compact and lighter than a DVD player or VHS.

This is much better looking than the Duo; after seeing the Duo I did not want to buy one but nevertheless this is a marked improvement on the RetroN range. The controllers are accurate to the SNES style and will play responsively to the game, my only complaint might be that the cartridge slots are not quite as easy to pull as the original consoles although this is no criticism of the software or electronic hardware.

The choice of ports on the front panel is nice for people who have a favourite controller and the default controller, despite looking like a SNES, uses a Saga Genesis port. The system comes with two of these which have cables of a modest length which enables two player mode.

The system is fun to play two players and I did test this out with no problems encountered. The only additional hardware you might need is a cable extension as my sofa is much further away from the TV and I end up moving chairs but this is no big deal.

The system claims to have a region unlock feature but often the game works without intervention. On the back you have the choice of AV or S-Video, both work quite well and for capture device users, one can be used to capture footage and the other for the TV screen.

Overall it is not as advanced as the RetorN 5 but that has a modern OS and all sorts of unnecessary features that only detract on the gaming experience, old consoles were ready to go in seconds and if that is what you want without buying all of the original consoles, the Trio is the console for you.

Note: the adapter I got was European and I am using an adapter, please remember to check the eBay listing before ordering if you want a regional plug also the manual comes in all languages but there is not a lot of point as it is easy to set up in minutes (depending on if you care about using wire sorters and that kind of thing).

I have been really looking after my retro consoles for over a decade and although there is something special about playing games from that era, which is just not found today, I always thought the cost of playing them was that one day they’d be no more.

Because as careful as you can be, things do break. Which is why I bought a Super Retro Trio. Perfect result for me, nothing gets in the way. Only one set of (new) cables to think about, which are easily replaced in the future, unlike my ones from the 80s and 90s! So I’m not worried anymore, and I can actually enjoy playing again, without that constant fear in the back of my mind that I might break something.

The controls that comes with it are good. And SOS provides the Aussie plug so it just plugs in straight away, which I think is super important. Oh, and it plays SNES, NES, and Megadrive plus USA’s Genesis) all in the one box, which is what I’ve always wanted.

After I found out the seemingly cheaper models from the USA make Australian games stutter and slow down, I’m glad I got the reworked PAL version, which is a bit more expensive, but makes the games smooth as they were when I first played them on the old systems.

The system works great for me. I have turned it into a five game console by purchasing a Super Gameboy cartridge to play regular Gameboy games and the Super Retro adapter for Gameboy Advance games. The one issue that many other customers have is how tight the cartridges fit in the console.

I gently pull up on one side and then the other to wiggle them out. Don’t pull hard on the cartridges or you could damage the console or the cartridge. I think with more use it will get easier to remove the cartridges.

Just be careful and this will be a great console for those who love old games.

Bought for our eight year old for Christmas and it’s hands down her favourite gift. Massive thanks also to the wonderful team who delayed dispatch until we’d moved house. My favourite shop ever!

Bought this for my 9 year old for Christmas. He loved it. I thought 8 bit games would be less addicting than modern games, but I was wrong! He loves playing this device.

Bought as an add-on to a birthday present. Looks great, well packaged, colourful, instruction leaflet for the various games etc – not sure who will enjoy it more, child or dad!

This system is one of the greatest systems of all time because it’s compatible with NES, SNES and Sega Genesis games. You can also use the included controllers to play all games. It also includes a HDMI cable to work on more recent TV’s such as 4k and beyond, if any gamers decide to purchase this system you will not regret it.

To be honest, I did something I normally don’t do – I set it up before I read the manual. LOL I thought I did something wrong because the SNES game I put in, the led for it lit up red. Thought something was wrong.

Nope, it just does that for SNES games. Blue for Sega Genesis, and Green for NES games. The controllers are easy on the hands Graphic-wise, if you’re used to the newest gaming systems, and playing on a large screen, yeah, just remember, this is 8- and 16-bit, and everything is blocky.

If you have an older tv, you may want to hook it up to that, else just accept it. And as an added bonus: If you have a Super Gameboy cartridge, it DOES work in this, and the graphics are incredlible! So if you have that adapter, this can play FOUR different systems!!! This is such a welcome addition to my home, and will be played a lot.

Now I just need to start looking for more games!.

product only lasted for about 3 months before became un useable. sound- from what is called NES on a chip is what U would expect controller- works good system- outer shell is built well but pin connector is VERY CHEAP is PLASTIC and held in machine with 2 screws that’s it I clean my games before inserting into machine.

Pin connector was tight at first was because new when bought back in May 2021 and WIGGLED left to right to to games out. problem I have with clones is build quality on pin connector for 40 dollars I expected to last longer than 3 months.

mainly I bought this as testing unit but NOT buying clones anymore. Do not have pic to show was thrown out long time ago. I tested mario duck hunt on official NES and booted up fine so I knew then system was DONE BROKEN.

Even though still powered on was pretty much USELESS because of pin connector Yes I tried cleaning pin connector did not help at all.

Since my new gaming TV did not do well with analog composite video signals from old gaming systems, I felt the need to at least experiment with one of these new HD console clones. I kept my expectations in check, since this is far cheaper than the top-of-the-line Retro AVS or NT Mini.

It has to be said, I was genuinely blown away! The picture over HDMI is super sharp, and there is no significant input lag that I can measure (do remember to set your TV for 4:3 display though -it automatically outputs a widescreen picture).

I will be putting my original NES back on the shelf, because this has now become my main way to play NES games on my main TV. This is almost certainly the best clone console I’ve ever bought, and I really look forward to HD clone versions of the SNES and Genesis now too.

I really enjoy my tea plus I just got it today and it plays nice the controller isnt the best possible BUT its more than just ok it plays classic nes cartridges and they look good on my 32 inch 1080p Samsung smart tv.

It controls responsive and is compact and convenient. I would recommend this to anyone not wanting to throw the big money on a analog nt or other high end nes systems but if you want a good value and decent performance this is your box.

The size of the pad was a bit of a surprise, much smaller than I anticipated. The player was well packaged and was delivered earlier than expected, so that’s a bonus point. Set up was very easy, just plug in and go.

Quality of the games were quite poor and the controller was a bit iffy at times too. Sometimes the games shut off without warning half way through gaming, which was annoying. Suitable age group for this player would be 5+ or even earlier.

Wow this little gadget is amazing, I could not believe how simple it was to set up and then I was shocked that it had over two hundred games on it. My Autistic daughter struggles with x box etc but these retro games was slow enough for her to play and the more challenging ones for another day.

This super gadget can be taken in my handbag for visiting friends or to take on a holiday and as long as there is a TV then I can have a coffee break in peace while she plays. Well worth getting and it’s a super bargain.

I purchased this product 2 weeks ago, when I got it out of the box it came in I was already disappointed with how dirty the console itself was. I made sure to purchase this product over the discounted version so that would be avoided.

The console itself did work when hooked up, the one thing that I felt uneasy about was how wobbly the AC Power cord attached to the console. I mean a little wobble is understandable but I have multiple N64’s and when placing the AC Power cord DKOldies sent me in my N64 I have had for years now it barely had a any movement.

I called them, the first guy on the phone was very nice and sent me a new N64 console and AC Power cord to replace the one they first sent. I had mentioned to him how dirty the console was and I sent in pictures and videos of it.

When I got the replacement console and power cord, the console was even dirtier than the first one. there was something sticky on it and in the slits in front of where you insert your game cartridge.

I plugged the power adaptor in and it was just as wobbly as the first. Being discouraged and upset, I called back to get a refund and just send it all back to them. They agreed, the woman I talked to on the phone was not nice at all to me, very unprofessional.

When talking with her she put me on hold for 6 minutes and only talked to me for 2 minutes. I felt rushed off the phone with her and poorly treated. I had a question from the email they sent me, they answered it and in reply I asked for a coupon for the inconvenience so I could at least buy a game to see the quality and possibly still buy from them, in the return email a gentleman bluntly ignored my questioning about the coupon and was very short in the email.

I understand running a business and making money but don’t say your product is clean when clearly you don’t care what kind of quality you’re providing to your customers when they’re paying good money for the product(s).

You state in the description ” are fully refurbished and cleaned. Our systems are in great condition and free from most cosmetic flaws. ” if you’re taking the time to take them apart to refurbish them I don’t understand why not take 5 minutes to clean the all plastic parts of the console.

overall my first experience buying from this company was a waste of my time and ridiculously over priced. in my opinion, shop local from good people. Retro gaming is about joy and having fun and feeling nostalgic, it shouldn’t be represented by dirty, over priced consoles and products with bad customer service.

I have been looking into a Nintendo 64 for awhile now and had two other reputable retro game suppliers within my hometown. But seeing as though I’ve seen this company on social media and all the positive feedback including the 120 day warranty I decided to give it a shot.

Ordered a Nintendo 64 Explosion pack and four replica controllers. No complaints on cartridges all cleaned and in working condition. However the N64 console or control deck itself in my opinion is in pretty rough shape for being refurbished.

The first player controller port is not functional all the time sometimes it works other times it doesn’t. Upon looking closer on my own inspection from the outside of the console you can see the controller board is broken on the inside of the control deck.

I would have attempted to repair or replace on my own but since it’s solder to the motherboard itself with there gurantee I’m hoping a replacement unit in better condition can be arranged. Because even the top housing and the bottom housing of the case do not line up.

Maybe I just have a bad unit. But kinda of stinks when your a first time customer and take the choice of driving to there location to pickup your items because there close enough to your hometown. Hoping someone sees this promptly and helps me accordingly.

Writing on here because it’s Sunday and the office is currently is closed which I respect everyone needs there time off. Also the console is labeled as Japanese console didn’t know that when I ordered it.

Was expecting a US console still plays US games unsure if the shell was changed due to it being a ” Refurbished ” unit. Will update accordingly once resolved.

Being ‘happy with my purchase’ is an understatement. I am blown away by the fact that I can still get my hands on a console this old from an online retailer and it be in such good shape. The copies I received of Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda OoT are phenomenal and the entire process was as simple as plug and play.

I inspected basically every inch of my N64 & cartridges to verify their legitimacy, it checked out and it’s all as clean as you could hope for. No gunk clogging up the plug-ins, zero concerning wear to them, and not a speck of dust in the air intakes.

The customer service with DKOldies has been top notch and the employees there seem to genuinely love what they do. My order arrived during the holidays well in advance of the projected eta (partial thanks to UPS too).

Since December I’ve ordered two more times to get my hands on some more classics and I have a wishlist full of other products I plan to grab later on. Do yourself a favor and take the leap with these guys, because I was on the fence once, and I am so glad I did it now.

I have to admit that 2018’s TheC64 Mini brought about as much disappointment as well as excitement to me when it got released. Despite Retro Games bringing back an iconic piece of tech from yesteryear, it lacked the full performance of what was needed.

With an unusable keyboard to the standard joystick, I felt it could have been done so much better. In all honesty, I think they knew it too. Come 2019, they listened. And they certainly delivered. A re-release with a full sized replica keyboard with 4 (Yes 4) USB slots, a newly updated joystick with micro-switches, the ability to switch between three modes (C64, VIC-20 or their updated Carousel mode) and of course the continued support to load additional roms if you happen to own them.

As fast as i ordered this from Zavvi, was as fast as i received it! (Thanks for that Zavvi). It is near perfect. It would have been nice to get a full sized manual, better selection of games and even possibly a VIC-20 Carousel mode since the mode is there.

The C64 Maxi is what the Mini should have been. And if you love a trip through the 80’s nostalgia, this is one trip you won’t regret.

I’m really pleased with the product. A good C64 replica, although the dimensions are more similar to the VIC20, so slightly bigger. There’s a good selection of games and if you want to try some retro software development, you have a keyboard and the classic mode available.

I love the fact it is a realistic copy of the Commodore 62 and doing all the original would do, beside the built in games of course. It has also got the original Vic. I haven’t been able to use it to the full extend as I haven’t got a computer disk for it yet.

Over all, it is a marvellous computer/games machine.

Very good system! It plays SNES games perfectly. with a few minor issues. The gameplay and graphics are totally faithful & correct. If you love SNES and your system is lagging, don’t hesitate to get this system.

If you’ve tried replacement controllers, you know the controllers are very important. These are great – no complaints there. The power supply is simpler than I remember from the SNES, a simple DC adapter, that thankfully plugs in more firmly than the original SNES power supplies.

For A/V, the system only plugs in with RCA – no coax splitter or (regrettably) HDMI. Minor issues: – The reset button is faulty – don’t use it! It can cause power to flicker and wipe a saved game. If you want to restart on a game with save data, use the main power switch.

– The controller cables are just a tad short, so you may need to place the system on the coffee table to play comfortably. So there are a few small issues, but really, this is a great a value and a no-brainer if you want to play your old SNES games.

The girls love it because it has both snes and nes Slots, That way they can play both games. It has fun games to play with since its got both slots, They don’t have to play oneor the the other, They can play either game snes or nes games.

above all this is a great game system to play.

My younger kids like this game, but the older kid was not impressed. The game is worth the money if you are just introducing them to gaming systems. All parts included, very easy to set up and my kids lived it.

Works perfectly connecting the GCN to the TV via HDMI and no blurring when the characters move from the Game Boy Player games. Purchased other similar devices and they didn’t connect or static in the screen.

The adapter really works to play your old SNES console on the new HDTV’s through the HDMI ports. Now one thing to understand, SNES is 16 bit and as such the graphics from the games are not going to be razor sharp, but they are clear enough to still play the games.

It doesn’t upscale or makes the picture better like more expensive options, but it works just fine and it’s extremely affordable. Works on my SNES without issues.

Works great and it allows you to watch anything from your iPhone on any TV that has a HDMI port! Some people on here say it doesn’t for some reason let you watch streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, or just any app that streams any video content) but it’s just simply not true! On any TV that has an HDMI port, which it’s insanely rare that you will even own or use a TV that does not have an HDMI port, you will 100% be able to watch anything on TV with this device that you can watch on your iPhone.

I even watch DIRECTV through my DIRECTV app on any TV. It’s a must have especially in a place where there is not a internet connection like in rural areas or just any place with no internet. It just all depends on the type of service you get though if there is no internet connection.

But, it all boils down to if you can watch it on your iPhone then you can watch it on a tv with this device. It just simply mirrors whatever is showing up on your iPhone screen. So, as soon as you plug it into your iPhone and then plug it into the TV you will immediately see whatever your screen on your iPhone is displaying! I take this with me every time I travel just Incase the hotel, vacation home, lakehouse, or anywhere that might not have internet, good Wi-Fi signal, or just Incase the place I’m at happens to loose internet service for a while or something? Just remember to invest in a lengthy hdmi cord so you can use it while you are in bed or sitting on the couch.

If you do not want to buy a lengthy HDMI cord and you have two at your house then you can always buy an hdmi extension adapter to make two smaller hdmi cords just one longer hdmi cord to help reach wherever you are at.

Buy, I highly recommend buying both (lengthy hdmi cord and extension adapter) so in case you go on a trip and the cord isn’t quit long enough you can just add another one from the place you are at, that is if they have another one? I bought a 15’, 20’, and even a 25’ hdmi cord and I have to say the 25’ cord is the one use the most because it’s never not long enough and I always can use the device while I’m in bed or wherever very comfortably.

Lastly, since it has a charging port on it which is the best part I might add due to the battery consumption that streaming videos takes up on a phone. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to buy a iPhone chargrging cord (usb to lightning cord) that is much longer than the standard iPhone charging cord.

If you want to use the long hdmi cord to use it while in bed or on the couch and you don’t have it charging then it’s pointless to even use the long hdmi cord or even the device itself. You don’t want to be using this and then go out and your phone is almost dead or if you want to use the device to watch something on the tv and your phone is almost dead.

My point is you never know where the outlets are going to be in a place you have never been and you are wanting to have it on the nightstand or just close to you so you don’t have to get up and go hit pause, play, or switch to something else to watch.

I hope this was thorough enough and helps answer any questions some of you might have. But, I promise this plays any streaming app your tv so please do not listen to anyone saying that it doesn’t because they are for some reason lying or they just have no idea what they are talking about?! Was able to plug into my iPhone SE (2020) and mirror my screen and play videos. Works great. EXCEPT for Disney+. Disney+ has a specific DRM that will not allow screen mirroring from your device AT ALL.

So, just a heads up, if you are purchasing this to mirror Disney+ from your phone to your TV, IT WILL NOT WORK. You receive an error message stating to try plugging the device directly into your TV or switch cables.

Extremely disappointing but it’s not the adapters fault, it’s the Disney+ app that’s the problem. That’s why I am still giving the adapter 5 stars. I found no issues with the adapter and it worked as expected.

This adapter is absolute garbage. I bought the Apple version because I THOUGHT that it would be much better and more reliable, but definitely not worth any where NEAR the same price. My main reason as to buying it was to watch Netflix from my phone on to my smart tv, and the quality is the WORST.

Not only is it VERY blurry, but it ALWAYS will cut the sound out with two minutes left of a show, and NOW, it is doing it more frequently throughout the show, so you can’t just sit back and enjoy anything peacefully AT ALL.

It’s not blurry with YouTube or when using other apps, nor has the sound cut out (yet), and that’s why I’ve given it two stars. But I’m assuming most people would want it for Netflix or Hulu, like I did, and I’m here to brutally say that IT.

IS. NOT. WORTH. IT. I have had it. It is a complete mood kill, I mean who wouldn’t get mad? And, I haven’t even had it for that long what so ever (literally like two months), AND I don’t use it a lot either! So, to sum up, DO NOT BUY this if your main purpose is for Netflix, Hulu, or any other app similar to those, because you will be very disappointed spending that much money with the outcome you will receive, and believe me, it’s awful.

My oldest grandson tried it out. I ended up having to order another one for him. I thought he was too old for it. But he loved it.

The Evercade is one cool system, a true retro gamers paradise! This system plays licensed retro games from the 70s thru the 2000s as well as several modern indie games, depending on which cartridges you have.

The screen is large, bright and clear. The sound gets moderately loud and stays clear even at top volume. System has a nice weight to it, not too heavy but also not too light like cheaper systems. The console is well-made and has very responsive controls, and it feels good in ones hands.

Built in Li-ion battery provides for several hours of entertainment on a single charge. The deluxe set comes with three cartridges chock-full of games by Atari, Interplay and Data East. (Clay Fighter still rocks!) Out the door you get 36 retro console and arcade games included in the starter set, pretty impressive considering the low price point.

Many more multi carts are available too, most of which sell new for $20. Theres also an analogue headphone output and mini-HDMI port to connect to a modern TV, which is a very nice feature. The one downside is there is no multiplayer functionality.

Blaze says theres going to be a Model 2 eventually that will support multiplayer, but in the meantime its 1-player only. Highly recommended for retro game fans! Emulation is smooth and responsive, dont notice any lag, frame rate drop or any other issue! Great system!.

I only heard about the Evercade when their limited edition black consoles went to reviewers and reviews were hitting youtube. Needless to say I was intrigued and then eventually got a handheld as my interest was piqued.

I now own a complete set of games and plan on keeping it that way. Between the interestingly curated offerings to the inexpensive $20-25 price per cart. It’s very much hits all the sweet spots for a retro game collector.

Even the worst of the bunch has a few great titles worth the admission per cart. The developers also seem very keen on keeping updates/bugfixes and rollouts of additional carts.

I love it. Old school style console where I don’t need to download multiple gig updates for each game, just plug and play? The console itself does need the odd update, but these aren’t too large, and don’t detract from the experience.

With the carts being $10-20 and holding 5+ games, it’s a pretty solid value prospect. Definitely going to get the rest of the carts eventually.
