20 Best Underlayment For Vinyl Flooring (2023 Updated)

We had installed this under an SPC flooring with pad attached. Quietwalk says it will work under this type of flooring. We had noticed our flooring breaking at the locks and unhinging over a few months as well as a spongey feeling while walking on it.

I had reached out to quiet walk. They had us pay for an inspector ,$500 out of pocket, to check the problem. The inspector said it was installation as well as the underlay contributing to the problem.

They denied paying for anything. 2 Months later we had made the difficult choice to rip the underlay out and again be without a floor for about a week. IT FIXED THE PROBLEM!! Should have never used this product and I am warning anyone else to avoid this at all costs with Pad attached SPC!!.

Quality product that significantly decreased the hollow sound of walking across the floor while providing a pleasant little cushion to the vinyl tile surface under-foot. Provides another degree of separation from the concrete pad.

Fast and simple install. Made noticeable improvements and pleased with the result. Did the complete basement floor with it and recommend. Would use it again without hesitation.

Excellent underlayment product, great price. Has to be ordered from Home Depot online, not carried in the store. Delivery to store for pickup was quick – only 4 days & well worth the wait. I highly recommend this product.

This underlayment is good quality at a great price. I am using it under some vinyl plank flooring and it works great and is super easy to install. Lowe’s costed. 30 cents a square foot for almost as good product.

You can’t go wrong with this product. The seller bulk shipped 5 rolls in a big box with no problems. I highly recommend this product.

Description is accurate. Annoying Con is the paper instruction that is sticky taped to product, it rips the product when you try to remove it from roll. Would buy again.

I find with underlayment, it typically likes to bulge and bunch up when flooring is placed on top of it. I didn’t run into this issue with Soundbuffer. This underlayment gave a smooth layout with little to no problems.

It was used in upstairs bedrooms because we could hear so much walking around and jumping from the kids right along with their video games and shouting. After installing underlayment from Soundbuffer all the noise seems to have calmed to a whisper.

I have been in the process of replacing my living room floor with new wood planking. I was looking for underlayment to buffer the sound in the large open room. I was able to get this ungerlayment for luxury plank flooring so I installed this with the flooring.

I was very pleased to see how easy this layer down and the quality of the product. The great part is, it really does create a great sound buffer compared to other products I have used in the past. I am very happy with this underlayment and would purchase it again.

I recently remodeled my bathroom and used this underlayment under my vinyl floor. It was very easy to cut and install. Before installing I can hear creaks in the basement but after installation I hear none.

Great product, easy to install, the floor is very quiet. Great price too. The material is high quality felt like fibre that is very firm and supports the laminate well. Our subfloor was not very smooth and the Quietwalk covered the imperfections perfectly.

Super felt adds a great sound quality to the laminate flooring. It also provides better insulation than other types of underlayment. It is easy to lay and splice thanks to the “pretaped” sides. Only a minimal amount of underlayment tape may be needed.

It can be somewhat difficult to cut. If you are using a razor knife or carpet knife, keep a new blade in the knife and you won’t have a problem. You may only be able to make a few cuts before the blade will dull and not cut clean.

I used it on two different laminates of different thickness in the same house. You really don’t hear or feel a difference.

My 19 year old son and I (an obese 60 year old lady) recently put down a beautiful laminate floor after removing the wall to wall carpet. This was the first time for me and the second time for him. He had never put underlay lay on before.

He had no trouble whatsoever laying it down and cutting it to size. Each roll did a 10 by 10 foot room. The final results were impressive.

This came highly recommended by a coworker. If I had a second choice I think I would opt for something different. It makes my laminate sound hollow underneath and not solid as he said it would. It’s also quite squishy.

I know my subfloor isn’t perfectly flat but I can’t help wondering if some of the flex I see in the laminate is due to the squishiness of this underlayment.

For a non-humid basement this product is overall awesome as a subfloor considering alternatives. It does take a lot of cutting, especailly if the basement is not a perfect square like mine. Be very aware of the side you are using and cutting as it is easy to make a mistake thinking that this is simply a square.

The tongue has two side and the groove has two side, it is easy to cut the wrong way leaving the cut piece unusable. I found the demonstration videos do not give a good sense of just how much cutting is involved and how important it is to cut the right way.

My basement is 660 sq ft. I purchased 180 pieces. I had nearly 20 left over, mostly because I figured out quickly how to align the piecs for the fewest cuts. Be sure to really think about what side you are cutting and what pieces will be left over.

If done properly we could make one cut and use two pieces along a wall because the cut piece was perfect for the stagger of the next section. That took starting, stopping, and starting over to realize.

Don’t be afraid to stop reassess and start over if you realize you made a mistake. Also use the shims as much as possible, we didn’t put enough in one section and there is a distinctive creaking in that spot.

I have used Dricore on 2 previous basement projects and been very happen with the results. The manufacturing of the product has changed for the worse. There is now less adhesive to hold the wood shavings together.

You have to be very careful about getting slivers in your fingers and hands. I used a circular saw to cut them and had lots of separation of the wood shavings. I tried cutting one with the black side up but ended up tearing the underside in a few spots.

I had no problem with the installation and fitting the pieces together.

My husband is re doing our floor and we figured we’d give one a try. He said that he liked that it had a very easy peel strip so you can stick the extra strip of plastic to the next piece. The directions are easy to follow and the underlayment cuts with scissors or a box knife.

It is easy to work with and is a good value. It also does truly help with the volume as well as we have a basement below, so walking and running on that is annoying. So needless to say we will be buying more for the other rooms.

I really enjoyed the QuietWalk Luxury Vinyl Underlayment from QuietWalk LV. For this product, I just layed it down on my floor and let me tell you. it works wonders. My children are LOUD and they walk very heavy.

After laying this stuff down on my floor you can not hear any sounds, whatsoever. You can’t even tell that they are walking around or are even there, at that. While walking on it, I noticed right away on how soft it is.

It has insulation on the underlayment, making it smooth as a baby’s bottom. It’s so comfortable and that’s a plus for me because my feet are always in so much pain. I will recommend this product to my family and friends.

The Quietwalk luxury vinyl underlayment is a really great product. We used ours in a playhouse we were building in the backyard and it has turned out to be a really great find. This underlayment has less noise and it has a little cushion under your feet.

it also has a dry-wick technology that helps keep the floor dry. It was very easy to install. It has a built-in seam seal. It is made from recycled materials. I love this product and I would definitely recommend for anyone that is putting down a new flooring.

After reviewing a variety of options we decuded to go for Quietwalk underlay for our second floor bedroom laminate flooring project. Home Depot offered the best price and we ordered the products. Surprised to see the product being shipped from the manufacturer in USA.

Well received and the installationwas quick and easy. The noise levels are absultely minimal after installation of 12mm laminate and we are very pleased with the results. Though the cost was nearly twice that of cheap chinese made underlays, we felt that the cost was well worth the quality.

This was the first time using this underlayment; it’s much sturdier and thicker than some of the other underlayment that I’m accustomed to using. The side that rests on the concrete reminds me of carpet padding, just not as spongy.

The side that the flooring rests on is an orange, rubber-like coating. I did notice a slight odor when rolling out the underlayment; however this smell quickly dissipated within a couple a minutes. I didn’t have problems cutting the material to size or marking with a permanent marker.

I used duct tape to bind the seams together as indicated on the instructions on the back of the roll overall this product met all expectations.

Installed in a loft over a plywood floor. It is definitely quiet and it also provides some forgiveness when the floor is not quite level so it is worth the money. Easy to work with and saves you time in the long run.

The quality is good in terms of the thickness. However, it smells quite strong and the smell lasts quite long. Any chemical components or coatings are our biggest concern in a house. Had to return them.

Not worth to take the risks.

I have order 3 rolls of cork over the last year and they arrive in great shape. It’s easy to rollout, cut and install. A roll is heavy but can be handled by a single person. Have some weights on hand to hold down the ends as there is a tendency for them to curl.

Once the laminate is on top there is no problem. The overall benefit I found are; firm footing without the hardness off concert, insulates and helps reduce the chill from the concert and deadens some of the sound.

Very good value for the price.

The product quality in regards to the material is just fine. However, the description states it is 25′ (300″). Mine was 4″ short. I needed exactly 25′, and I can’t stand when manufacturers cut lengths shorter than stated.

So don’t plan on getting all the 25′ if you buy this. Short changed.

Used as underlayment for engineered wood floor. Used Nashua 357 to tape seams. Great quality, comfortable and quiet to walk on.

When I started to cut the roll to fit the corners, the green plastic barrier started to shred apart as it it was kept in storage for many years past its lifetime. Not sure if this was a return item but I can say this item is no where close to the quality of felt underlay that I bought from another company (different brand) a month ago.

I had to use vapor barrier to replace the green plastic.

We ordered the underlay at the same time as the flooring but it took an extra three weeks to get it. They should have some on stock in the cities where the big ticket items are sold. I understand that everyone was renovating their houses at the same time.

It is a great product and can hardly wait to see in the winter how the floors react.

This underlayment is great to work with. The grid pattern helps to accurately cut and fit to your floor. If you take the time to make sure it is squared up with your starting wall it will help you check your progress as you add each row of flooring by giving you a guide on the grid pattern that you can verify that you are not getting out of alignment.

When you add another section it is important that you line up the tabs correctly so the grid stays accurate. If you aren’t using tape seal for moisture it helps to tape some of the tabs with packing tape to prevent separating as you work your way across the room.

It does hump a bit but as you add flooring it flattens right out. I have worked with rolled underlayment but this is much easier. A brand name product but at a much lower price than the boxes.

This is a great product. The grids make cutting easy. It’s very user friendly so even a novice could lay a laminate floor with ease.

The barrier protects from water and condensation and also provides a dampener between floor levels. It is very easy to cut with a utility knife and stays in place without too much effort. I highly recommend using this on ground floors and upstairs.

Definitely a good choice! Although I did not use this insulation for its intended purpose, I must say it works very well. I removed all of the interior trim panels from my vehicle, and lined the back of them using this insulation and then reinstalled the panels.

Road noise has been cut down by an estimated 40 percent. Road noise is much louder than what’s going on below most home’s floors, so I can imagine that this will have a huge impact if installed under your laminate or wood flooring.

This product really tied the job together and help make it a project I was proud of. I really liked how the MP Global Insulayment Accoustical Recycled Fiber Underlayment did exactly what I expected. Made my floors more quiet and more comfortable AND helps keep them warmer.

I would recommend this product, and am glad I decided to make it a part of my project.

Easily installed. Feels good underfoot. Accommodates the bumps and dips of my 70-year old basement floor. I was able to modify the panels for obstructions (e. g. telepost, water meter). Shims functioned as expected.

(I have only one quibble: to accommodate the upcoming carpet installation, I screwed down every other panel along the perimeter, plus the room’s centre panel. Now, whenever I step on the highest area in the floor, the panels there feel ‘squishy,’ as if I hadn’t shimmed them enough.

Maybe, with the increased house humidity of summer, the panels have expanded slightly; and with the perimeter screwed down instead of floating, the floor has buckled upwards ever so slightly. ).

This is the 2nd time I’ve used Dricore products on a basement renovation and I couldn’t be happier. I priced out doing a traditional sleeper, foam board and plywood vs. Dricore and found that it was about 20 cents more per square foot to do Dricore R+.

In my opinion, the time savings alone is well worth going the Dricore route, despite an additional cost. Panels are easy to maneuver, can be laid quickly, can be cut easily, and provide a finished subfloor in a fraction of the time that it would take to do the traditional method for a basement subfloor.

I’ve already noticed a huge difference in how it feels temperature-wise in the basement – especially on some of the cold winter days we had in early January. If I ever do a basement renovation again, I’ll be using this product 100%.

Used in basement installation with LVP flooring and it was easy to install and provided great vapor barrier and a bit of padding. This underlayment was very cost-effective compared to others I compared when shopping.

I’m glad I discovered this product. It’s much better than the product I was previously using. My contractor that’s installing the LVP flooring likes it too. I plan to buy more for future rehab projects I have planned.

Generally this seems to be a good product. It came with a “V” shaped tear with each arm about 1 1/2 inches that extended through several layers as I unrolled it. I did have a hard time squaring it at times.

I stapled 1 corner and maybe due to slight stretching it always seemed to bunch up some when I got to the 3rd and 4th corners. It seems sturdy though. It’s only been in place about a week so who knows.

Overall I’m satisfied and don’t anticipate any problems.

I was a little apprehensive about the purchase, due to the fact I would be using it under Garage Trac snap together tiles in the garage, but my dreams came true. It went down easy and feels thick to the touch.

It doesn’t tear easy, but you still need to watch it when sliding around on it—-mostly your shoes. The Plastic tiles laid flat on the underlayment and were easy to stomp on and snap together, without damaging the underlayment.

Only minor indentations were made at points of impact, but went away after a few minutes, so I carried on! The floor looks great and with the underlayment it feels great as well! It is quiet when walking on it and has a bit of cushion to it and the weight of moving heavy cabinets, 800 lb.

Motorcycle and my car rolling in and out of the garage and parking in one spot for several days at a time have not seemed to bother it. Also, i can walk on the floor barefoot now without freezing my feet! It was a toss up between this and rubber, but the rubber was too expensive, so I took a chance with this (after extensive research, of course) and I am very glad that I did!!! Only time will tell how well it holds up, but for now; I am extremely satisfied and would recommend this for the garage or especially inside your home.

I have been a builder for forty years and we installed 900 feet of flooring in our personal home using this padding This is an excellent product very good firm padding for click flooring and about 1/3 the cost of any other comparable product I have found.

It seems to be the same as the orange padding at Home Depot.

Went down without a hitch. Did not need the extra layer of moisture barrier with the underlayment. Provides comfort and sound barrier on the floor. Would use this product again.

Easy to lay down and cut. Seam taping system is easy to use and secures well. Only downfall is that some areas of the foam beads came loose while cutting and make a mess.

arrived on time, in good shape… easy to follow directions and easy to lay… dampens the sound of the wood flooring perfectly!

Worked great. In hindsight we should have gotten a thicker underlayment because the vinyl tiles we used are thinner.

Great vapor barrier for a low price, gives your laminates a much better feel under foot. Great price compared to inferior underlayments.
