20 Best Sleeping Bag For Hunting (2023 Updated)

First: This sleeping bag is seem very well built made with durable materials as far as sleeping bags go. Second: It is very warm. I used it on an overnighter in Mt. Rainer National Park. The weather, mostly high winds, came in throughout the night and the temp dropped to the low 40 to upper 30 degrees.

I stayed very warm in my tent. Third: This product is not as advertised. It does not have a second zipper for you to unzip and let your feet out to ventilate or walk around your campsite, etc. NOT AS ADVERTISED IN THE PICTURES OR PRODUCT DESCRIPTION in regards to not being able to unzip at your feet.

Also, the hood is to small. Could have been sewn a little bigger.

I got this for Father’s Day and used it camping that week. It’s lightweight but more than warm enough for camping at that time of year with overnight temps in the 40s. My only problem with it is that it’s a bit too short so it’s a tight fit in the shoulders.

If a person were a bit shorter say about 6’1″ or maybe 6’2″ I’d recommend it for sure.

Was a lot cheaper than other body suits for cold weather hunting. Kept me warm during all day hunts. Never got cold. Coldest was only 20 degrees. Late season bowhunting. when temps are near zero will really tell how well this body suit works.

I have used this bag for several years now. I used it on a Spring Black Bear hunt two weeks ago and got the shivers in the middle of the night. There are two major problems with this back in temperatures under 20 degrees.

1. The baffle is not effective or rather is non existent. This means cold air gets in and down the top. I have to use a hoodie or a coat or a blanket to try and block this off. Annoying. 2. The zipper does not completely close of the bottom.

It looks like it does but is does not. You do not notice until camping in pretty good cold but this makes for really cold feet as air actually gets in the bottom. The remedy is to stick something coat, clothes, etcetera at the bottom of the bag while sleeping.

I wish it was made with a good thick baffle. As it is, I know I will wake up cold at some point in the night. I love the room though. This is the second one I have owned. The first purchased about 10 years ago had a bad zipper but seemed better constructed besides that.

Improvements I think could be made in offering this in some sort of camo. Black is the worst color for blending in especially if using for a glassing or from a tree stand. Additionally 30 deg isn’t bad when used with clothes under bag but a slightly lower rating could improve its versatility.

Love this sleeping bag. so warm and cozy! I wanted a sleeping bag that feel like real blanket in my camper. I need a warm one that will handle the cold. This is perfect!

This was the 2nd bag we purchased to zip together in our camper to replace bags purchased over 25 years ago. The bags zip together well. The flannel was slightly softer on this bag than the previous bag but not like the old bags.

I had to sew a 2 inch edge together at the top that was open. We tried another bag with the same dimensions since this has been out of stock frequently. We were not able to zip it to the 1st Heritage Big and Tall bag and it was very costly to return.

I bought my Heritage Big and Tall sleeping bag 20 years ago this November, to be used on a four day deer hunt. Since then, this bag has served me well on a nine day New Mexico elk hunt with temperatures as low as -5°, camping in Oklahoma and Texas, used it for a sixteen day lock-in during a plant strike, and on numerous other week end or overnight trips.

This bag has kept me warm, held its loft well, and continues to look almost brand new. I hope it lasts another 20 years!.

This is a reasonably warm sleeping bag. I have used it overnight at -7C and stayed warm enough. I suspect that below -10C this bag would not be warm enough. pros: The ratio of warmth, weight, and price is just right for me.

It is just light enough to take on short backpacking trips, warm enough for mild Canadian winter nights, and at the price point I can justify owning it even though I only go out for a couple nights per winter.

It is also very comfortable; there is lots of room inside to find a comfortable position. Additionally, the inner material is soft, unlike many of the sleeping bags I have used. cons: The zipper snags and I found that the last 12″ of its travel (at the head end) was remarkably difficult to close.

As such I had some frustration when trying to close it. Also, it is a bulky bag, since it is synthetic insulation. Stuffed in the bottom of my 65L pack it took up almost half of the main compartment, but that is to be expected for this warmth at this price point.

The compression sack was also disappointing, as I did try to use it but found that the buckles did not hold much in the way of compression. The bottom line is that this is a very good sleeping bag for the occasional backpacker on a budget, or a fantastic car camping sleeping bag.

It is good enough for my needs and I am satisfied.

I purchased this on Amazon thru the Klymit store. This is the only twenty degree bag that keeps me warm at forty degrees. I have three other brands that all claim they are twenty degree bags yet have to bolster their warmth with other blankets or another bag.

This bags flaw is it’s too short! The description says 74″ X 30″ mine got shrunk to it’s only 65″ X 26″. I’m dealing with Amazon on resolving this, but I’ve purchased Klymit gear since they began this has never happened before totally confused.

This is accurate in its temperature rating in every other way except the size.

Nice bag! Works well for colder temperatures. I’ve used it several times when it was below freezing and been warm enough. My main complaint is that it’s really small. I’m 5’2” and it’s barely long enough.

Would work great for a smaller adult. Definitely not as big as advertised!.

Over the years I?ve tried a few different bags at various temperature ratings and the Versalite Western Mountaineering bag is by far my favorite!! One of the ultimate best features of this bag is the zipper and it?s virtually impossible to snag zipper.

Nothing worse than in the middle of the night have to fiddle with a zipper and catching on the bag, which will NEVER happen with this bag. Draft tube collar is easy to use and well positioned, plenty of room and Wow does this thing pack down small! When the wife and I pack up the sea kayaks for a weekend paddle trip I?m always amazed at how much smaller my bag packs compared to the ?other? brand she has and mine is a much warmer bag! I also use my bag with a Western Mountaineering silk liner so I can keep my awesome bag as fresh and clean as possible for the longest possible time.

With the right sleeping pad I?ve had it down into the teens which I find is getting pretty close to that 10 degree rating. I still slept just fine and was not cold but you definitely know the difference between 10 and 20 degrees.

At the 20 temp I usually just sleep with the liner, a light merino wool base layer along with a pair of regular hiking socks. If I feel it?s going to be in the teens or colder I?ll ramp up the base layer a bit for some extra warmth.

I?m would not consider myself a cold sleeper and the wife would say I?m a regular 60,000 btu heater. In the summer months I?ll leave it mostly unzipped and will sometimes pack a battery operated fan (I always sleep with a fan at home).

This also helps regulate my temps and even in the 30 degree temps I?ve had the fan a blowing. I?m 5?9? 180 with a 42? chest. I purchased the 6ft right zip. I am more of a side sleeper and this allows me to open it up on the side I want to have my face hanging out of.

I have plenty of room in the bag to roll around but let?s be honest it?s a mummy bag you are not going to sprawl out like it?s a king size bed!!! At my height the 6 foot bag offered plenty of room to stuff a camping pillow in the bag and even put my arms above my head if I wanted to.

Bought this for my spouse. She is about 5’9” and sleeps cold. So far we’ve used in spring temperatures (lows in 30s-40s) and she has been very satisfied with the warmth and is confident it can go much lower.

It’s also extremely plush and comfortable. The green is a nice color. Weight is excellent. Packed volume with the included stuff sack is nice and fits with some effort into the sleeping bag compartment in the Osprey Ariel.

I don’t see a need to further compress it with a compression sack. Only con is the price but we’re expecting this to last for at least the next decade or longer.

This was my first time splurging on anything related to the outdoors. My old sleeping bag was a 35 degree bag and wasn’t cutting it for me since I’m a super cold sleeper and needed a warmer bag for a backpacking trip around Mt.

Hood (Oregon). It’s so squishy and comfortable. I have to comment though, that even with a nice sleeping pad and a sleeping bag liner, I was just a perfect temperature at night. BUT this was mid august.

So I’m worried that I may get cold if I go camping in the fall if I wasn’t too hot in it this summer. Well I´ll just have to see and maybe will just need to wear more layers then. Since it’s down, it doesn’t pack down tooo small, but I just bought a water proof compression sack and I’m hoping that will make it take up less space in my sleeping bag.

This thing serves a very specific purpose, and if you read about it, it does it perfectly. This is huge, comfy lux bag for car campers, kids sleep overs, or the spare room at your cabin. It’s huge, heavy, and perfectly comfortable.

DO NOT think this a backpacking bag. It isn’t. It’s a car camping or cabin bag, period. But, if you’re looking a lux sleeping bag then you’ve found it. Everything about this bag is quality and well made.

There’s no noisy poly or nylon, just loads of cotton. It’s soft heavy and feel great to the touch. Also, I am on the big side at 6’4″ and I have TONS of room, there’s literally zero restriction. I’ve got it paired with a Byer of Maine “Heritage” cot and a Seely 3″ twin sized memory foam mat and Thermarest compressible camp pillow (another product I enthusiastically recommend) and the set-up rivals my bed for comfort.

I actually look forward to sleeping it. There’s a time for roughin’ it and a time for glamping. If you seek glapming, you found the right bag! Seriously, I know of no better set-up for cabin, car camp, or spare bed sleeping.

p. s. the carry bag is HUGE, it holds my BIG Byer cot and the sleeping bag and has room to spare.

It’s a decent bag for the price. The new bags are generously long and do feel nice. But, I bought two and ended up returning them because, unfortunately, they ain’t what they used to be. Our family has had 5 Slumberjack Big Timber bags for 10-20 years.

I have had two in a row and each lasted 10 years. We loved these older model bags. But, these newer bags have a lighter synthetic cover instead of the sturdy cotton duck canvas of the old bags. Overall, they feel thinner and not as warm and cozy.

The new synthetics may be more durable, however. Also, these bags have extra space for your feet. Although, you need to be aware that that limits which way the bag faces unless you want the extra foot space facing down.

This is also an issue when zipping two bags together as one footwell will always be facing up and the other down.

When u need an oven to sleep in here it is. Old school roomy bag. Great for heavy camping at fish or hunting camp. Slept in tent 4 night fishing. Dipped below 30 several nights. Great to sleep in cold weather in my skivvies.

Heavy and bulky but worth the effort for a great nights sleep.

I purchased this sleeping bag for my grandson who is in Boy Scouts and they do frequent camping trips in the 8,000 – 10,000 foot mountains near where we live in New Mexico. His light weight summer bag was not up for intense cold weather winter camping, so I found him a bag that was.

Last weekend he got his chance to field test it and it was an overwhelming success ! The bag kept him toasty warm even without a sleeping pad underneath him. Outside temperatures were only in the mid teens, so I cannot rate this on how well it will preform with below zero conditions, but we do not have many of those days,here in central New Mexico.

The bag fits in the compression sack, but it is a very snug fit. It would be difficult for one person to get back into the compression storage bag. The trick seems to be rolling the sleeping bag as tight as possible to get as much excess air out of it then slowly get it past the top compression band in the storage bag.

That is the hardest part, and is made easier if one person holds the sleeping bag tightly together while a second person works the compression bag up over the bottom of the sleeping bag past the top ring of the compression bag.

If that ring belt was adjustable, the sleeping bag would slide right in (a design flaw that could be easily changed). Then it is just a matter of turning and pushing the large sleeping bag into the tight compression storage bag.

It is a tight fit, but it DOES fit. The zippers worked very well and my grandson had enough room inside the bag to change clothes and to store his clothing for the morning inside the bag with him to keep his clothing warm as well as himself.

He is 5’4″ tall and weighs about 110 pounds. He had all his clothes and jackets in the bottom of the bag to keep them warm, and it worked. Everything but his boots. The bag seems easy to clean. Dirt shook out , even though it is fleece lined (a nice touch for warmth).

The poly shell wipes clean easily. For washing, I recommend a commercial front loader at a laundry mat, as it is heavy enough to break a home washing machine. The bag is over sized and retains heat very well.

My grandson said it was toasty warm, almost too warm. He peeled off layers of clothing and was comfortable in his underwear at 15 degrees F. For the price and quality of this sleeping bag, I would recommend it to others for cold weather camping in a tent or vehicle.

It is a bit bulky for backpacking. It also unzips and makes a nice warm comforter for at least a Queen sized bed when not using it for camping. Two small or young children could share this bag easily.

One very large adult could fit in it. Overall we were pleased with our purchase. I hope it remains as durable as it seems. One night outside in the yard at 30 degrees and another in a small tent at 15 degrees is not a thorough test, but enough to let me know that the product seems to live up to its claims.

I’ve been using this bag for the past 10 years. It’s never disappointed. Ive had it down to 0 degrees but I would bring some thick wool socks when it gets that cold though. I use it for ice fishing trips in Canada and hunting trips out west.

Take care of your zipper! If it gets stuck and you force it, then it will break. Happened to cousins. I recommend this bag to all my friends.

Well made Nemo bag. Materials are well employed around different zones of the bag, but I wonder whether the shell is too lightweight. I find myself being overly delicate thinking it will run or tear.

Other nitpicks, the face seal is designed for 1 handed operation, and inexplicably Nemo used a similar shell material as a channel for the elastic cord. It binds terribly and requires 2 hands to operate I find.

But overall, I can live with these for the moderate increase in comfort inside for tossing and turning. Clearly, I have disposable income as I would have returned this one when I was a younger lad. Well done Nemo.

This is my fourth backpacking bag and first spoon shaped bag. My other bags (0, 30, and 35 degree) are mummy style. I considered purchasing the women’s long version of this bag since it’s dimensions are the same, but it packs more insulation.

I figure that it could take me to 0 degrees. But I already have a decent (though less roomy) 0 degree bag, and the men’s version is several ounces lighter than the women’s. I also considered purchasing a Big Agnes bag with the pad sleeve on the bottom.

BA bags are very well designed but I decided I liked several of the Riff’s features better and do well enough staying on my pad at night anyway. I just got it yesterday and had to try it out for comfort.

So I set my NEMO Cosmo Insulated pad up on my back patio, jumped in the bag wearing just a t shirt and boxer briefs and zipped up for a half hour “test sleep” last night. The temperature was down into the 30’s, so I didn’t really push the temp rating, but I definitely warmed up quickly even with the thermo-gills open.

Space inside the bag was absolutely fantastic for me. I’m 5’10”, 190 lbs and was practically giddy with all the room I had. I could spread my feet apart and was even able to bend one leg sideways at the knee.

I am a side sleeper and have to turn over every so often to give my shoulders a break, and while doing so I felt none of the restrictions that my other bags create. I know that NEMO’s other spoon bags are even roomier, but this is MORE than enough for me while keeping me very happy with the weight and compressed size for packing it.

The waterproof foot box is great for keeping the bag dry if I end up too close to a dewy tent’s end wall The zipper sled is fantastic. The stiffer material makes operating the zipper a breeze. I worked it several times and there was never a hint of a snag.

The pillow sleeve is another key feature for me, as I have trouble keeping it in position in my other bags that do not have a sleeve. NEMO includes a nice compression sack, but I prefer to simply stuff my bags directly into the sleeping bag compartment in my backpad.

It conforms to the shape and I can easily stuff other items (pillow, bag liner, rain gear) in there with it. I can not yet speak from experience in THIS bag on temperature rating. However, based on my comfort in my other bags and how I felt inside with the outside temp in the mid 30’s, I am confident that I could take this bag to a comfortable night at 15 degrees with a liner (keeps the bag clean too) and thermals or perhaps a puffy.

I love this bag. I love NEMO’s products in general. I practically obnoxiously recommend their Dagger tents to anybody looking for input. I strongly believe in supporting them and rewarding them for their R&D.

Reviewers here seem to love this bag, and for good reason. This thing is filled to the brim with down, extremely well built (found NO cold spots) and is delightfully roomy. So why would I knock off two stars? Packed, this thing is HUGE and HEAVY.

No other 15 degree bag with 800 fill weighs this much or has less packability. All I con figure is that either 1) they’re not ACTUALLY using 800 fill down (maybe 600?), but tons of it, OR 2) They’re using at least twice as much down as most other manufacturers.

That seems like a good thing, but when you’re trying to make comparisons with other bags for the sake of a quality lightweight option for backpacking, I can’t tell where this thing lays (pun intended)! I’ve owned zero degree synthetic bags that packed down smaller than this, so something isn’t right.

But if space, weight, and price aren’t as much of a concern for you as staying warm, this IS a spectacularly warm bag.

I have the Long version of this bag. At 6’3″ the bag is plenty long for me, has a pretty generous footbox, knee and hip room, even at my weight. You could definitely get a few items in the footbox without cramping it too much.

I took it for a test drive at around 15 deg F and in just base layers, socks and a light hat (z-fold and an Exped insulated mat underneath) it was pretty warm. (I would consider myself a cold sleeper).

Hood was quite deep but fit a little weird with an inflatable pillow inside. Tended to push hood up away from my face. There are two big compromises: 1) The shoulder width. I don’t have particularly large or wide shoulders and found the bag really tight around the shoulders.

It was very difficult to get my arms in the right positions to operate the zippers and hood drawstring. Compared to many other bags the advertised 63 inch shoulder width seemed generous but it definitely was not.

Not sure if the spec is inaccurate or not. I didn’t measure. 2) Zippers. I found the zippers annoying to operate. Particularly zipping around the shoulders to close. It caught regularly on the draft tube and you had to move your arms around and hold bag to get tension so the zipper would move freely.

Zipping the last foot or so to close around your chin is quite awkward and claustrophobic. The zipper ends roughly at the knees on bag and there is a second zipper you can use to vent lower part of bag.

Despite my not using that zipper at all it had come undone and was starting to separate itself. Was a bit of a pain getting closed and on the track again. That could be a potentially annoying development in the dead of night as it unraveled and let cold air in and having to mess around with it by headlamp.

One last observation – as with a lot of sleeping bags, the included stuff sack was laughably useless. Definitely want to invest in a decent compression sack. The mesh storage sack was pretty nice. All in all it seems like a quality bag at a good price point but it is not without its aggravating points that buyers should be aware of before buying.

So far, I have a couple of nights in this bag at ~12,000 ft. in a proper four-season tent. Nights were probably in the single digits (F) and I was always plenty warm in just my thermals. Condensation around the face opening was significant, but I think that’s to be expected in the cold.

I generally run pretty warm, but I felt like I could go appreciably colder, especially if I threw on a few light layers. In terms of how the bag works, the main zipper has the effective anti-snag feature that I expect to see on most sleeping bags these days.

The draft collar has its own elastic cinch cords separate from the outer hood cinches. I find these do an adequate job of keeping things cozy. I was able to keep my pillow in the hood of the bag and still close my face in well.

A pocket lies on the very outer surface of the bag. If the ice that formed on the bag overnight is any telltale, this pocket will do almost nothing to keep something like a phone or water filter warm.

I’m not sure what the pocket really achieves. It’s relatively roomy inside. I’m on the smaller side, but I was able to fit a small bag of clothes, a liter or two of water, and my ski boot liners without fuss.

A great feature I wasn’t expecting was that a partial zipper on the opposite side of the main zipper allows you to keep the draft collar around your neck but have your arms out. This is great for getting up in the morning and getting some water boiling in the tent vestibule.

My reason for the 3-star review is that, after just two nights, some stitching is already letting go on the bag (mostly around the draft collar). I’d say the build quality is commensurate with the price; it’s not disintegrating and all the insulation is still in place, but I do fear for the bag’s longevity.

If it gets worse, I’ll definitely be looking into a warranty claim.

My friends took one look at this bag and dubbed it Carrot. Ah, well. This bag is so warm and cozy, I absolutely love it. I am a side sleeper and have plenty of room to move around in it without feeling restricted.

It takes up a lot of space in the pack, especially if I don’t use a compression sack- but so do all down winter bags. I appreciate it being relatively lightweight for a zero degree bag while still warm.

About that warmth: It’s a zero degree unisex bag, which really translates to like, a 10-15 degree rating for a women’s bag, and this tracks for me. As a woman who also sleeps cold, I’ve been in it in the twenties and been perfectly comfortable, or been in the low thirties and been slightly too toasty, in just my merino base layers and the bag (on a pad with >5 R value, also).

The one thing I would change if I could is the size of the internal stash pocket. While it’s nice to have, it’s not big enough for my iPhone which is one of the main things I’d rather have handy overnight (along with my headlamp, which it is big enough to fit but then you can’t really put anything else in there).

I don’t mind shoving my battery, in reach, and any other electronics down to the foot of the bag to stay warm all night- but those two items I like to keep handy and there just isn’t room. I haven’t used its double zipper feature yet- seems like they could save some weight by eliminating this altogether, really.

But overall, love my Carrot bag, and as a bonus the bright orange will help me be spotted if I’m ever in a SAR situation!.

Easily the best sleeping bag I’ve ever owned. My previous down bag was rated to 16 degrees and was from a reputable manufacturer. With the old bag, I was comfortable down to about freezing (I’m a very cold sleeper).

After using that bag for ~8 years, I decided to treat myself to an Alpinlite. The purchase hurt a little, but the bag is better than my old bag in every way. It is 1 pound lighter, and packs to probably 2/3 of the size.

It is the same weight and packed size as a budget 40-degree summer down bag that I have. It is also much roomier. I’m a 6’3″ dude and the Alpinlite is the first sleeping bag that I’ve felt was truly big enough to be comfortable as I toss and turn at night.

The zipper has never ever snagged on me, and is the first sleeping bag zipper I can confidently use one-handed. As far as its performance, I can use it (with a proper pad) down to the low 20s with only shorts and a t-shirt on.

With proper baselayers and socks, it goes down to about 18 degrees comfortably. Colder than that, I’ve use down booties and a 50 degree synthetic overquilt and taken it to 6 degrees, albeit I did get chilly (but I was using a subpar pad).

Some have complained of the durability of the fabric, but I took this bag on a 6 week trip to Alaska involving over 20 nights of camping, and I had no issues. It is ultralight fabric, but as long as you don’t abuse it, it will treat you well.

Keep it away from pointy things and tent zippers. If you’re really rough on your gear, maybe look at the WM Badger MF, which has a beefier fabric. It took about 30-40 nights of camping for it to start to smell, but your mileage may vary depending on your personal hygiene.

The only true downside I’ve found with the bag is that it takes FOREVER to dry. Probably 8+ hours in the dryer on low heat. But this is due to how delightfully fluffy the down is, so it’s worth it in my book The expense is also notable.

I don’t believe the saying “buy once, cry once” when it comes to Western Mountaineering. Because once you buy one bag, you’ll love it so much that you will want two or three more, for different temperature ratings.

I have no doubt the Alpinlite will last me well over a decade, if not longer, but I love it so much that I’m now in the market for their 0-degree bag 🙁 I cannot recommend this bag and this company highly enough.

I had been dreaming of getting the “ultimate” of°sleeping bag brands for more than a decade, and after much deliberation and research, I finally pulled the trigger on the Alpinlite. My very first night backpacking°with it, the tent zipper snagged the outer fabric and ripped a hole in it (an indication of how delicate the shell fabric is).

I nearly sobbed. I was able to return the bag, and I purchased another of the same bag. When I recieved the new bag, I immediately noticed it wasn’t as lofty as the first bag I had, especially in the chest area.

This concerned me, but I decided to try it out anyway. I used it on a weeklong trip in the Wind Rivers, and I was cold and uncomfortable every night. And oddly enough, my legs and feet were somewhat°warm enough, but my upper body was freezing.

The first night the temperature was 39°°(I had a thermometer in my tent), and I was cold all night. The following few nights were in the low 40’s, and I was uncomfortable enough that I didn’t sleep well.

I used this bag for 6 nights, and not once was I comfortable. °For reference, the pad I used was the Nemo Astro Lite insulated, with a temperature rating of 15°-25° F (Nemo didn’t use an R-value for this pad.

Also, I’ve used this pad for years and have never been cold with it). Each night°I wore thick,°warm socks, long thermal midweight°underwear, and a beanie. This is the same combination that I’ve used for years with my previous bag (a Marmot Pinnacle) and I’ve never been as cold as I was in this bag.

I even tried shifting more down to the top baffles of the bag, but it didn’t help. I also noticed there were many spots where there was no down, and I could essentially see through the shell material.

So, I either got a lemon, or Western Mountaineering’s quality control sucks (I weighed the bag on a gram scale and it was under spec, which indicates it was under filled). Or, this bag doesn’t°live up to the WM hype.

Either way – and most of all – I’m really extra°ticked I dropped $600 on a stupid bag that doesn’t keep me warm. Oh, and one more gripe: this bag has a tiny hood. I like to use a pillow stuffed in the bag’s hood, but the hood is too small for it to work well.

°So, don’t believe the hype, steer clear and save your coin. You’ll thank me you did. ° Side note: dealing with Backcountry is the worst. I returned the bag and was expecting a refund, but they would only issue store credit (and never notified me).

Chatting with their “woke”, millennial°”Gearheads” -°who refer to you as “dude” or “man” -°is an excruciatingly painful and time-consuming ordeal. Thanks, Backcountry, but no thanks. I don’t want to purchase anything from you.

I have borrowed this bag from my dad for a number of trips and I finally invested in one for my wife (sleeps cold) for 2 weeks in the andies. First speaking of my dad’s experience: he’s had this bag for over 15 years, and slept in it more than 100 nights outside of a tent in alpine temperatures ranging from 10-50 degrees, and never had an issue with it.

Still lofts like the one I just bought. My wife’s experience sleeping in 15+/- in the Andies: kept her warm enough and very cozy. The only drawback you can come up with for this bag is the price, but at the end of the day you will get what you pay for.

When you’re ready to buy your last sleeping bag, buy this one.

I review this bag fresh out of the box, I haven’t tested in camping yet, but I will go for a 3 nights next week in under 0C conditions, but still there are some things I can say about it. The colors look great, and I don’t mind the white inside since I always use a liner, but that’s to be kept in mind.

The value is impressive and the down feels nice, but I think a couple of things could have been added that wouldn’t have been so expensive for TNF : First, The bag comes in a compression sack that has no straps and no storage bag, appropriate for a down sleeping bag which needs to be stored at maximum volume, so you’ll have to find a big breedable bag to store it when not in use (or keep it under your bed, or hang it).

Since there is no compression sack included, you’ll need that to properly benefit from the main advantage of down : its compressibility. Also, the absence of a collar in the sleeping bag for a -18c bag is weird and I don’t think it would have added too much price, but the increase in value would have been noticeable.

Oh well, I’ll wear my buff. There are good things though! the zipper that opens all the way just before the footbox is really nice to get in or out of it. There are also little hoops around the under side of the bag to strap it to your mattress and some more at the end for hanging (since it has no storage bag).

Its shape is quite anatomical, not too mush free air inside, but the footbox is still confortable. The protection for the zipper is well made and finally, the inside fabric seems to have some water-repelling ability, which could prevent water vapor for your body to go in the down, a usefull feature on longer trips.

I don’t know how much the inside would repel small water droplets though.

I bought this bag in the fall of this year(2021), and after long research of which bag would be best for winter camping this was the choice I went with. I used the bag on camping trip this winter where the temperatures dropped to -10°C/14°F at night.

I slept in just base layers and this bag was very warm. I would definitely recommend this bag for anyone who is looking to have a winter car camping experience or just cold weather. Now the pros of this bag: very warm, but there is a few cons: it’s very bulky, no pocket/s for phone or key or flashlight storage, the sizing is off.

This sleeping bag in its size(regular) is meant for someone who is slim and max 5’11” in height. I’m 5’11” with a muscular build and this bag was too narrow in the shoulders, making it very difficult to zip.

If this sleeping bag is on your radar and you are not a slim individual, get the long size, not the regular size as per the North face website. Also this sleeping bag was not offered in a size long on the cabelas website.

( Size I actually need).

I purchased this sleeping bad for 3 season camping – something to get me through the shoulder camping season and the cooler nights at higher altitudes. I am very pleased with my purchase as I was very toasty on my camping trip this past weekend.

I would like to point out the sleeping bag is not super light weight, but it is not heavy either. I think it is a great balance of weight vs. features vs. price. I was able to fit this inside a waterproof small sea-to-summit compression sack (10L) but the top of the compression sack was not properly rolled.

I would recommend a compression sack a little bit larger (12-15L). Speaking of features, I do find the bag minimal compared to some other comparisons I researched. There are no pockets or sleeping pad tie ins (or I havn’t figured that part out yet).

I think this is reflected in the price. The sleeping bag is SUPER warm. Temperatures reached 5*C at night, and I slept in my undergarments because I was incredibly warm. I would say I am a “normal” temperature person but if you are someone who runs hot, then this could be too much.

This bag does run small – I am 4″11 and I find the size of this bag ideal. A little bit of length but not as much “dead space” as I’ve experienced in other bags (i. e. , Thermarest Questar). I would recommend this to other petite ladies.

While I haven’t yet opened the box, I know of this bag and will be using it on a camping trip in the Spring. I have no reservations of its ability to keep me warm in the desert night as I’ll also be wearing poly/prope underwear.

Learned about the Browning Denali from a friend who owns one and even at full price is worth the money. Just be sure to keep it hung and not rolled up while storing, as that compresses the insulation.

While on an overnight backpacking trip with a specific destination in mind, I fell short due to an unsuspecting winter storm that stranded me on a mountain side. Had to hollow out the lower branches of a pine tree and take shelter for the night with temps down to 10 degrees and winds at 35-50 and gust to 70mph.

I woke with 3” of fresh snow atop my tent fly which I used to cover my bag and kept toasty warm. This bag is well worth it.

Got it on a great sale and it arrived very quickly, just in time for Elk hunting in the PNW. I have no doubt this will perform beautifully hence the 5 star rating. If I need to change the rating, I will come back and do so, but I would buy with confidence (when it is on sale).

Best cold weather bag I have ever owned, borrowed, and used. I use it a lot in my Hennessy Hammock during the winter or on a cot in my tent. Had a couple of nights well below -5*f in my hammock and I was so toasty I wouldn’t have known the temp outside if not for a thermometer I had set up lol.

In the warmer months I use it as a pad on my cot or on the ground with a light weight blanket on top and it’s perfect. I really like that the inside feels like flannel sheets so no cold spots and the outside is super durable canvas.

It even has a little pocket I use for keys and small light for getting up in the night. It’s also super roomy inside so much so its like sleeping in a regular bed. And you can zip two together for when you feel like sharing.

Warning: in warmer weather you definitely don’t want to zip it shut as you will cook inside this bag lol made that mistake one time and I had to open it up and flap it up and down to let cool air inside lol.

I loved this bag so much that I bought several, a couple of which I use in my Arctic Fox travel trailer and another is used by my 9 year old grandson who practically disappears in it lol but he’s never cold! If you can only get one bag this is the bag to get.

You won’t ever regret it and you will never give it up.

Finally got a chance to use my sleeping bag. Bought 2 to mate together for my wife and I. Positive is the bags are super warm, thick, and comfortable. Price is reasonable for what I received. Negative is the weight of the bags.

They are beasts heavy. Also, the zippers are difficult to meld together. One of the zippers was sticky and didn’t want to separate. It did eventually work, but difficult to do in the field at 25 degrees outside.

At the end of the day, I would recommend these and would definitely buy them again.

Very sturdy and comfortable. We used these in about -20F conditions and they kept us warm. When I go out this year, I’ll be adding the pad underneath it and come up with something to keep the draft from coming down the top of the bag.

There are drawstrings, but they don’t close down enough for a normal size person to keep the draft out. I made do with a good winter hat, but will probably use one of my light summer bags as a liner inside this beast.

Overall, I rate this bag as excellent for cold weather hunting, which is what I bought it for.

I live outside out of a vehicle and find the purchase worthy of this winters harsh cold, and spontaneous change. I’m not always in need of 0 degree protection and find that using the bag as more a comforter helps to make adjustments on not so cold nights so that I can avoid sweating.

I have Coleman 20 degree bags for warmer winter weather so watching the forecast for weather is necessary to make smart decisions. I find having straps attached to the bag to limit the bags versatility because you can’t get them out of the way and they like to slide up into my sleeping area in between my toes.

One has actually ripped off while attempting to roll and attach to the other end. I’m tempted to remove the other two and use them when necessary. I have experienced -10ish wind chill nights and climb into the bag to take advantage of its 0 degree ability.

The inner flannel likes to attach to my tee shirt making a rollover difficult. The flannel hangs too loose from the outer shell and wants to bunch up under my body especially when attempting to roll over.

I think the bag could be better made as when washing the very first time I discovered an opening where apparently the shell stitching was never installed. Take the straps off.

I would rate it down for the pink/blue/canvas color combination, but that’s unfair to the quality of the product. The sleeping bag itself is wonderfully made and truly so comfortable. The smaller dimensions make it easier to maneuver and pack, plus it’s nice to not have SO much excess bag below your feet.

As for the color. a MAJOR disappointment. I generally love pink. However, I find this particular combination hard to take in. When I ordered the bag, a totally different liner was in the product images, it was more white with light pink and blue plaid stripes.

This difference was actually the reason I decided to purchase the sleeping bag, after previously ruling it out because of the color. Almost ANY other shade of pink would be 100% fine, but this is a little offensive to the eye.

I’m seriously tempted to return the bag and wait until after the holidays to see if they re-launch it with a more appealing color combination.

I’m a big guy that usually does a winter car trip or two every year. Tried a couple of bags before coming across this one. Tough exterior, Soft cushy interior. The zippers are the only part I don’t love.

But they might be a little small on purpose. The draft tubes effectively block anything from coming through the zipper. This bag gives me plenty of room, keeps me toasty warm and is soft and comfy. Perfect fit on my XXL cot.

This setup, with some memory foam takes me down to about 15F comfortably. No problems getting it in it’s nice, included carry bag and sits on the shelf most of the year in that. I would recommend to anyone looking for a big cold weather bag.

It’s a biggun, but provides big comfort. Probably not going to strap this to a backpack or motorcycle. But that isn’t what this is for.
