20 Best Slaw For Fish Tacos (2023 Updated)

I have been buying Old El Paso Taco Shells for many many years. almost every time I grocery shop as we eat tacos once a week or so. Still my favorite brand of taco shells however I have noticed the last several boxes that the shells not only seem smaller.

getting at least one broken shell. but they are getting over done (brown). I’m following the directions for 325 degrees 6-7 minutes and leave them in no longer than 6 minutes. I believe the box is reflecting directions for a bit larger taco shell than is now in the box.

Shrinkflation? Someone suggested in another review to set temp for 300 degrees but it seems if that is the appropriate temperature. the box should reflect it. I like a crunchy taco shell. so I will keep the 325 degree per the box and take them out at 5 min and see how that works.

Until recently. I would have given them 5 stars on the crunchy taco shells. Today. only 4 because I believe they are smaller. If they haven’t changed the box to reflect the size. this might also explain the broken shells.

I bought these today and was really looking forward to some tacos since I haven’t had any in a while. I figured 18 shells would be enough for at least two meals for my son and me. Upon opening the box I was shocked at the tiny size of the shells.

These are half the size of a taco at my local Mexican restaurants (both fast food and regular restaurants). They’re half the size Old El Paso shells used to be. It was absolutely ridiculous. The flavor was good – as remembered – and they got nice and crunchy (took longer than suggested for the microwave), but they aren’t worth the effort.

They’re extremely hard to fill because they’re so small and about4 bites finishes one taco. My teenaged son took almost half of them for one meal. I’m so disappointed. Bring back full sized shells and/or warn consumers that the taco shells are tiny.

Seriously, a 2 year old could easily eat 4 or 5 of these.

Old El Paso stand-up taco shells are pretty good. Not perfect, but what is? I have to say that preparing tacos with these shells is SO much simpler than the thinner, regular shells which fall over as you try to stuff them.

These stay upright and let you prepare the tacos easier and better. However, I honestly have RARELY purchased a box of shells where 1 or more of the shells aren’t broken. I have to rattle the package off the shelf but I usually attribute broken shells to lazy, clumsy shelf-stocking staff.

So, I usually purchase 2 boxes. One for tacos and 1 for all the broken shells to use as tortilla chips. I would recommend these shells, even with the small, annoying issues.

I just bought and tried these nacho taco shells for the very fist time. They were on sale at my local grocery store and looked interesting, so I thought why not. I warmed them up in the oven at 325 degrees.

They look so good sizzling in the heat. When I took them out I could see the shells were also seasoned as some of the season remained on the foil I had baked them on. They held up well as I stuffed them with beyond meat crumbles, guacamole and shredded cheese.

They are a lot lighter weight and crispier than the standard shells. After the first bite, you instantly notice it has a bold salt-seasoned flavor and is so thin, crispy and delicious. The flavor mixes in well with the flavor of stuffed content.

Yummy! 😋 I had to come straight to write this review. I can’t go back to plain tacos after this!.

I bought these a while ago and immediately fell in love. But as previously mentioned, they should be in more stores. So I bought regular shells after trying these and it’s just not the same. I’m spoiled now and only by the nacho cheese taco shells – even if I have to buy them at another time in a different store.

Also wanted to let you know that I have a great idea for a new product. Can you please make these in nacho cheese flavored tostadas? I know they would be a hit! Since you don’t currently make this product, I broke the nacho flavored taco shells in half and put refried beans, taco meat, salsa, and cheese on both halves.

Rather than buying tacos out, I decided for many reasons to try making them at home. I was very hungry when I made the first two having warmed them as instructed on the box before eating. The box does say there are bio enginered products in it.

Nothing about them tastes like a food product and I was honestly sick after eating them. With the plethora of complaints about the stale like taste, I am concerned it may be the poor ingredients so that is why the expiration date on all of our boxes say good for a long time but the taste is “stale-like”.

Plan to return and complain to the grocery store I bought them from. Not that expensive but questioning the expense to ingesting these and have a social conscience.

first of all they were way too oily. and extremely fragile. over half the shells were already broken. i thought if i left them in the oven for the full 5 minutes it would help the remaining whole shells, but nope.

they were borderline burnt lol. I was extremely careful filling the shells. but as soon as I took a bite, the taco broke into pieces. So taco salad it is. lol. decent (homemade) taste aside from them being oily.

didn’t really taste too burnt when everything while in the salad. on hard times so I’m trying not to waste. I’m disappointed but it’s not the worst thing I’ve had this year. it’s always a gamble trying new things.

I’ll probably get the chips next time. I just hope they aren’t oily like the shells.

I had heard so many good things about the Siete brand so I took a chance and purchased these for family taco night. The shells are crispy and flaky and no one commented that it tasted different (as they are grain free).

They are a bit thinner and break more easily than regular taco shells however. After one or two bites, we had to use our forks and finish off our tacos as more of a taco salad. They are also more expensive.

We thought they were tasty and would purchase them again.

I was so excited when I saw these in my Target app. I have a wheat/corn allergy. Some of the reviews said the shells were really fragile. I didn’t have that problem. All of the shells in my box were whole.

I bought the Siete Taco seasoning too. I thoroughly enjoyed my tacos. The taste and crunch were extremely gratifying. Muchas Gracias Siete!.

I love this seasoning! I use it on fish and chicken and beef! I just mix it in the pan with my meat and a can of diced tomatoes and it’s the perfect addition to beans and cheese for burritos. I’ve actually never tried to make fish tacos out of it but I’m sure it would be great! I love it and buy/use it all the time.

This fish taco seasoning is better than the most fresh and expensive restaurants I have ever had fish tacos at. It is a home run every time. I use it with Chilean sea bass, mahi mahi, grouper, cod and flounder.

I’ve been using this for some years now. It’s great for fish tacos but I also use it to make kind of a Mexican fried rice and use it to season burrito filling etc. It’s tasty and not overly salty.

This is my go-to meal when I want easy, tasty and guilt-free. The seasoning is very flavorful and really livens up the meat. I also like that these tacos are a little smaller than regular tacos, it makes them easier to manage.

The shells are durable: you can take a bite and they don’t crack and spill toppings everywhere. Because they’re smaller you’ll eat more. One box was perfect for my hungry family of 3.

These were very well packed, I wish they had a resealable bag inside the box though. They did come rather stale tasting which is great for tacos but I tried breaking it up to use as tortilla chips with queso and it wasn’t good.

They were perfect for tacos though, soft enough to stay together while eating, but crunchy enough to satisfy. Not as Keto friendly as I’d like but really good treat once in a while.

Can’t beat these! So good naturally with nice flavor and lots of crisp and crunch! They don’t break too easily when filling them. We even eat veggie tacos in them! And no sodium. Just perfect!

I used the McCormick Street Taco Pork Carnitas Seasoning Mix with one pork tenderloin and a diced onion placed in a vacuum seal bag and cooked it in the Sous Vide for 12 hours at 155 degrees. When finished I pressed it in the bag to break it up which ended up with a pulled pork looking product.

I then spread it on a foil lined half cookie sheet and put it under the broiler high heat for about 10 minutes to brown it. Came out excellent. Will definitely get more of these packets.

I’m in my late 40s and can remember my Mom trusting McCormick products when I was a kid. When they came out with this street line of seasonings I was excited to try them. I actually made a marinade out of this packet by adding EVOO, red wine vinegar, and sugar.

I let the chicken marinate overnight and then threw them in the air fryer. I will definitely try and stock up on this item. Very, very yummy!.

Too spicy! The pork carnitas that I have made, and the ones I have order in numerous restaurants are not spicy. Thought I would skip the step of making my spice blend by using this packet. This mix was red with pepper.

Luckily I tasted it before using. Holy cow, it’s too spicy for us!.

We tried Louisiana Cobbler Mix when we wanted to try something new with our peach cobbler other then normal crust. I would have to say it didn’t turn out bad but it wasn’t the best i have had either.

It had a little bit of a bitter after taste which i thank may have been a bit of nutmeg in the seasoning. Other then that it bakes well and while it wasn’t quite for us I’m sure some would love it.

Bought this at my local market once, could never find it again. So I found Cajun Crate & Supply on the internet and was so delighted to find this Louisiana Cobbler Mix. It’s wonderful and easy to prepare.

Super easy and very yummy! Even the simplest way (using can fruit) is tasty but can also elevate too.

I have been eating these since I was a kid. They are easy to make, taste yummy and are inexpensive. It’s best to eat them fresh as they start to taste a little nasty after sitting for a while. I would get so excited when I saw my grandmother making these.

I recommend these as a great snack.

This is very salty – you can barely taste the fish. Quite disappointing. Apart from that the consistency and texture is okay. But I won’t buy this again or recommend it.

This is a must in any puertorican pantry for a quick snack or party appetizers. I add a bit of my homemade sofrito and some shreded cod for a semi homemade fritter.

My axolotl is still not fully sold on the idea of pellets, but I’m really trying to get him to eat them on occasion to make sure he’s getting all of the nutrients he needs. As of now, these are the only pellets he’s been interested in at all.

Hopefully he’ll get more used to pellets in general, but it’s promising that he’s at least eaten some of these.

I bought this product to combat “mascne. ” I had been using BHA and retin-A with no success. I started using this once a day in the shower. Applying it first and letting it stay on while I washed my hair and the rest of my body.

Within days my acne was almost gone and no new blemishes. My skin was a little dry at first, but I reduced the frequency BHA and retin-A and it’s fine.

I have catfish and have used this food for the bigger ones like shovel-nose and red tail. Good food to substitute for live feeding. My only recommendation would be to have larger sizes available for bigger fish since you tend to use a lot per feeding.

It tasted exactly like taco would, all the herbs spices were just right. I tried to imitate the packaging photo to added avocados, purple onion purple cabbage, and sprinkled a lil’ bit of fresh lime juice on top.

The reed fish love em! Bumblebee I guess likes them too, not sure tho cuz he’s always mia. Even Turbo the snail seems to enjoy nibbling. Guppies take part as well but they’re like Mickey, they’ll eat anything.

It has lots of fish nutrition even for the carnivore, sink quickly, soften up fast, the pack is small but dont let that fool you it’ll last a good while, never any leftovers so fish approved. Recommend to anyone that have fish that prefer their dinner on the bottom of the tank.

Just wish it was more available in stores. just keep in mind how long it takes to receive it, so you know when to reorder before you run out.

My Cory’s love this food. I have about 40 Cory’s in my 125 gallon tank. They all go crazy for these at feeding time. Very good quality. They are happy and healthy. Glad chewy has these. Will not buy any other brand.

Taco Bell is a favorite amongst some of us, so the name brand was an attention getter that resulted in being a must try product. None of us could see, taste or feel a difference between their brand and our stand by brand.

Our typical brand is less expensive, but it’s also not named after an all too often favorite of teens. They were definitely corn crunchy taco shells. They didn’t get mushy when sauce was leaking off the sides.

I expected quite the mess as usual, but pleasantly didn’t have it. We didn’t have grease or sauce soaking the shell, destroying it and dripping off our fingers. Once something becomes that messy, it becomes more work to clean and honestly the grease makes my stomach turn to watch soak through the shell.

I assumed that it was a mess that would require extra grease fighting cleaner to adequately clean up, but surprisingly it wasn’t that bad at all. While one family member still swears he can taste a difference, we all agreed we could not.

WhAts not to love about the Taco Bell crunchy and soft taco dinner kit? It’s the best of both worlds. I personally like the soft tacos and hubby loves the crunchy tacos. The kit contains everything you need – the tacos, taco seasoning packet and taco sauce.

The kit contains just the right amount of tacos for our family. We find that buying these on sale or when the store has a buy one get one free special is a great way to stretch our food budget. Buy this.

I like that it includes everything you need ( other than the cheese and lettuce) and its fairly cheap! Cheaper than buying shells seasoning separately and you get sauce too. The taste is not like actual Taco Bell Restaurants but, it’s good.

The Shells ate always crispy and whole, the seasoning is not spicy but it has flavor, and the sauce is mild so I don’t use it I prefer a medium sauce, so I do buy that separately. It’s quite a good deal, its enough for 2 people maybe 3, if you don’t eat more than 2 or 3 tacos you could serve 4.

We followed the directions, exactly and we loved it. We used tilapia as the fish as it is very mild and allowed the flavor of the seasoning to surface. While it says sriracha, we prefer things spicy and will add a little extra sriracha in the future.

There is a lime flavor in the seasoning the recommendations called for zest of one lime. We didn’t have one on hand, and it was fine. Recipe was corn based and required that fish be soaked in milk first.

Enough seasoning per pack for 12 stuffable tacos.

Who knew honey and lime on a taco was such a banging combination? I certainly didn’t but I’m glad this spice mix has shown me the way! I like fish tacos well enough, but had never tried to make them at home before.

This spice mix made it so easy and tasty. Ground beef tacos had been a regular part of our dinner rotation, but we needed so many extra toppings to make them taste good. This really just needs some thin onion slices, honey, salt, and some guac or avocado and it’s perfect.

The heat level is just right — not too much, not too little. This will be a regular part of our dinner rotation from now on for sure!.

What a terrific seasoning. Instead of adding spice directly to fish, I added spice to panko crumbs, then lightly breaded the fish. Amazing! I would definitely buy Honey Sriracha Lime Fish Tacos mix again.

I have been purchasing this fish since Sam’s mistakenly gave it to me over a year ago. My household loved this fish and my freezer was never void of this product. It was considered a quick meal when I didn’t want to cook (add a veggie and you’re set for dinner).

But, a few weeks ago, I was not able to find the Beer Battered Cod fillets in the stores. However, a couple of weeks ago, it was back on the shelf. I bought two boxes and with each box, my family and I noticed remarkable changes.

The fillets were not consistent in size and shape, as they were previously. There were some pieces that I would call, “nuggets,” because they were so small. But most of all, the taste was not the same.

There’s something lacking and the fillets do not taste good at all. Whoever the producer of these filets are, should not put a substandard product in a box and expect people to continue to buy it. Sadly, I will not purchase this product again.

I prepared these filets in my air fryer following directions. I found that I had to increase the cooking time considerably to eliminate that mushy texture often found with oven baked fish. I don’t think it was my air fryer as I used a Philips Premium, ensured adequate space between the fillets and followed directions.

Usually the Philips does an excellent job of simulating a deep fryer with crispy yet moist results. I also like a bit more flavor from cod fillets. Overall I give these fillets a good rating but frankly Gortons’s fish sticks have more flavor.

Firstly, these so called fillets were nothing more than small, broken bits and pieces of battered fish (those pieces that were actually battered). There were NO actual fillets in the box. The taste was disgusting.

and that’s putting it mildly. We cooked the entire box at the same time, but some of the fish was very tough, old and chewy while other pieces were extremely mushy and soggy. Some of the pieces weren’t even battered.

I wish I had taken photos of this product before and after cooking. I have since contacted Sam’s Club to request a refund and will not be purchasing this product again.
