20 Best Skillet For Frying Chicken (2023 Updated)

This grill pan really brings out the flavor of whatever food you put on it. And the added convenience of not having to start up your grill makes this a perfect complement to your other cookware. However, since grilling does produce smoke, you’ll need to have a good vent in your kitchen or you’ll set off your smoke alarm every time you cook.

My first pan had divots in it after only a week, even after following all of the care instructions (no steel wool or other harsh abrasives, just soap and water, hand-dry completely before storing, etc).

My replacement pan did not have this problem. Cleaning is a bit of a chore because you have to go through every grill line but that’s part of maintaining this beautiful piece. I love cooking with this so much that I’ll grill anything, which has led to some delicious discoveries.

I chose the cherry color which looks great in the kitchen.

We (my husband) have talked about purchasing a cast iron skillet for a while. On a whim, we purchased this one! It gives a great sear on all the meats we’ve cooked and our taste buds are pretty happy about it.

The char and smoky aroma is to die for. There is a slight learning curve when taking care of cast iron, however, it’s generally an easy process. It can be scrubbed with coarse salt before being finished off with a very small amount of dish soap (per packaging).

And, as with all cast iron, it is very heavy and you have to be mindful of carrying/lifting a searing hot skillet around.

I knew something was missing from my life but didn’t realize it was this skillet. I love it like a first born. The Staub gods definitely blessed us mortals with this one. I’ve never achieved such a perfect sear! This skillet is so multifunctional.

I can cook anything in it with a good preheat. I’ve gifted this skillet and plan to keep it on my default gifting list! I also own the 10” fry pan which is now rather neglected because I always reach for this one unless I need both.

If you’re on the fence about the fry pan or skillet, I highly recommend the skillet. The taller sides help with splatter and hold more volume. The flatter sides allow more bottom surface area. I can cook a small roast (~2.

5 lbs) or two generous steaks in this skillet without overcrowding and room for a bit of roasted veges with a roast. Yum! The skillet seemed heavy, but I quickly got used to the weight! It’s definitely less of a workout to wash than a cocotte.

Side note: I do recommend getting a slide-on handle holder or using a kitchen towel because the handle can get burning hot!.

I feel completely mislead into believing I’ve been cooking using a safe product for about a year now. Unbelievable! There’s people out there who are either unaware of the dangers with using such chemicals in cooking pans, or do not care either way.

Sell to them. To try to pull a fast one over on all of us health conscious consumers is immoral to say the least.

I absolutely love, love, love this pan. Nothing sticks I can use little to no oil which makes everything I make so much more healthy. Easy to clean. I would totally recommend and would definitely purchase again.

It’s a great size. Feels like a good weight. First time used, however, some melted cheese stuck to the pan. While the cheese slid off after soaking, there were leftover black spots in the plan. Additional soaking did not help.

Boiling dog not help. Eventually using some baking soda send to help. I did not use anything sharp or sharp or scratchy. The marks are still faintly there. It also looks scratched up in spite of gently cleaning.

I don’t anticipate it will last long.

Pan has been just great but it sure needs the helper handle put on it. I had the 12″ with the helper handle before this pan and believe me here if either pan ever needed the helper handle its this pan.

Just fill both pans up with food then try telling me differently? Its much deeper and all that extra food weighs quite a bit more so please put a helper on this one asap. Honestly I’ll never buy another 12″ up pan without the helper handle again anyway, it helps out so much.

After having one with it for yrs then “poof” its just gone I quickly realized how helpful the extra handle actually is and how bad I just messed up buying another pan without one. Lesson learned!.

I love this small skillet. I reserve it for eggs and fish to preserve the finish. Eggs never stick. Makes perfect small omelets! This is my second one. The first one held up for about 3 years. The skillet itself is heavy duty, never warps, cool handle, chrome bottom endures, cooks evenly, but the teflon finish does scratch eventually.

Great product for the price!.

Fantastic pan. It even works on my new induction cooktop because of the coating on the bottom. This will also help with even heating for those with regular or gas cooktops. It is nonstick, so of course it will scratch if you use metal tools.

But if you know how to use nonstick cookware and care for it properly, I highly recommend this pan. I love the red indicator – it turns solid when the pan is pre-heated optimally.

I really like this pan it’s big enough to cook spaghetti dinner but I use it for a lot of the cooking I do at home. It’s no. Stick and easy to clean. I gave it 4 starts just because the non stick coating chips away with normal every day use.

Love it. Maintains its quality well. Great for cooking on stove top or in the oven. I hardly cook with butter or oil more with this. We use a chain steel pad wrapped stone silicone sponge to clean it.

Great quality and very heavy. Cleans easily. Cooking is very easy with this pan with even heating. Wish it came with a lid!

For a cast iron pan, it’s not so heavy and like most CI pans, heat distribution is great, the handle has a nice grip size and it does need a cover like just about all the rest do because it gets hot.

However, it is the nice finish coating of the Cuisinart that makes clean-up a lot easier as well. I like this pan a lot, and I use it about everyday for cooking a lot of simple meals. Great Pan for the money!.

The pan is fine (with the exception of a drop sized bubble on the inside bottom of the pan that I hope will not become an issue) but it was to replace a lightweight Cuisinart skillet that I loved and used almost every day.

This pan is heavy and I have only used it once because, despite using a lot of butter in the pan to make scrambled eggs, they stuck mightily to the pan. Had to soak and really scrub with nylon scrub pad twice.

Got this skillet solely on Le Creuset’s reputation and the fact that we are very happy with their enameled pots, thinking the skillet was the same, just different color enamel. However, that’s not the case.

The skillet is very similar to an iron skillet, only it doesn’t maintain seasoning. Even when treated with kid gloves (i. e. , not using soap on it, being careful what you cook in it, re-seasoning after every use), the “enamel” will stain and discolor.

I would never consider putting this skillet in the dishwasher. One plus is that it doesn’t pit when acidic foods are cooked in it. I’m not sure why Le Creuset insists on this material when they could put a regular enamel in it and it would be perfect.

We’ve got an old Danish Copco enamel skillet that wears the patina of age but cooks beautifully. Le Creuset bought Copco years ago and discontinued that line of cookware. Someone at Le Creuset doesn’t have their head screwed on right.

Maybe they’ve eaten too many mushrooms and snails.

This skillet heats perfectly even and holds heat extremely well. Be sure to heat and then add oil or butter. I’ve used it to sear steaks and then slide right into the oven in the pan. The pour spouts make it ideal for turning drippings into sauce or gravy.

Skillet breakfast with sausage, onions, diced potatoes, and eggs is simply the best when made in this pan. Very versatile from stovetop to oven. My daughter has even made a giant skillet cookie in this pan.

Buy it and you won’t regret it. The durability and finish are second to none. This is expensive but it will outlast any pan you have. But it once and you can use it forever.

I have had this piece of art in a form of a skillet for nearly 18 months now and to be honest I love cooking every single day because of this pan. I now look forward to cooking almost always. Initially it took me while to get used to using it as it’s a skill to cook on cast iron but once I got the hang of it – I am never ever going back to stainless steel or teflon.

The food tastes so much better. The stakes are juicy and with a perfect crust. Chicago style deep dish pizza is a discovery for me. The omelette is amazing and salmon comes off so juicy. It’s almost hard to believe the difference and prior buying it I wouldn’t have believed the adverts praising how good the food can taste.

I do believe the Le Creuset adverts – truly converted now. I have certainly received a lot more compliments about my food since switching to Le Creuset. I am using it almost every day because I love it so much and as it comes with a lifetime warranty it hasn’t lost it’s initial charm, only got better.

I got mine in Satin Black. The colour is a bit dull but on the upside it can handle higher temperatures than all the beautiful ones that come in colour. I can go from top to oven without even thinking about it.

Be careful though as it gets really hot. I have learnt this the hard way. I wash it with a dish brush and hot water after every use and dry it straight away either heating it up or with a fabric dish towel.

It does hold heat really well and requires a smallest setting on my gas cooker. Saves a little on the energy bill in the long run. I was hesitant at it’s price but it’s Le Creuset after all with a Lifetime Warranty.

A top quality product and my only regret is that I didn’t get it sooner. Enjoy cooking and don’t thank me, thank John Lewis and Le Creuset.

I wish I would have read the reviews before buying this fry pan. I purchased it two months before my husband’s birthday so cannot return it. I cannot believe that QVC would let this sell again after all the bad reviews.

The first time my husband used it everything stuck to it and had to be soaked to be able to clean it, it was a real pain to clean after that. It left a black ashy residue meaning that the coating is peeling off! What a waste of money! I have been with QVC for 40 years and have always had good luck with the products I have bought over the years, but I am VERY disappointed with this purchase.

They need to take it off the market!.

The pan is huge! Love the pour spots on both sides as the pan is heavy. Having 2 pour spots makes it easy regardless of whether you’re right or left handed or position of the pan. Just love it. Heats up fast and hot too.

Glad it’s ok in the oven but haven’t tried that yet. But many fun meals to come with this pan. It’s sizzling hot! The color options are great. Love the blue/teal option but went with red. The ombré is a nice touch.

Even as a low pan, can still see the ombré coloring.

I seasoned this pan just as it said and everything stuck. I had to use baking soda as the instructions said. Oiled it up again and tried it again. Stick city. Way to much trouble. Had to switch back to my old pan to finish cooking.

Will be cleaning it up again and sending it back. Don’t waste your money. This does not work.

I cannot stop using this pan. It arrived three weeks ago and I used it right away to make pizza. I just made my standard no-kneed bread recipe and used half of it for a pizza. (The other half went into the fridge and I used it a cupla days later to make another pizza.

) Both of those pizzas had perfect crusts. I also used it to make a double batch of gluten free rolls for Thanksgiving. I also brought my regular bread (the no-knead recipe mentioned above) and that bread is always a raving success.

But this time people were wolfing down the rolls even though they were gluten free. I have also used it to fry on the stove but gosh! the thing is huge! I have a center burner so I can used on my stove but I remember the narrow gas stove in our first house and it would definitely have been awkward using it there.

It is also a beautiful cast iron piece and I am thrilled with it.

Like all cast iron, this pan is very heavy. Handles on each side are easy to grip. Used the pan after cleaning as per instructions. Truly non stick right off. Used it for steak the first time around, then schnitzel and last week for a spatchcock chicken which turned out to be probably the best roasted chicken ever coming out of my oven.

Evenly cooked thru and nicely browned. Very much like the size of this pan and its low sides. Very useful addition to my large selection of cast iron pans.

So I bought this pan in 2019, and I think I wrecked it by overheating it, otherwise I love everything about it, see how the longevity goes this time with better care. Easy clean, great non-stick.

Coating coming off after one month. Yes they do have 5 year warranty. BUT u can’t find fissler Australia customer service number. Myer said Fissler just rent the space from Myer and they can’t do anything with it.

Honestly, I was amazed at how great these pans are! My frying pans are the most used pans in my kitchen. I haven’t found anything decent at an affordable price. I saw these and took a chance. So glad I did!! Wow! Food slides off the pan.

This is the second SHAQ skillet and lid we have purchased and we love it! It’s easy to clean and hasn’t shown any “wear ‘n’ tear!” However, I will say that we also purchased a SHAQ Air Fryer which we enjoyed but it suddenly quit working.

We followed all of the “trouble shooting” ideas but to no avail. We had told many of our friends about the Air Fryer and how pleased with it we were but I must admit we’re disappointed.

I bought the set of pans over a month ago. I ordered this to add to my set. These are great! They seem to hold their no stick magic well. This pan is such a perfect size for a family. I love that it comes with a lid!.

I had the old design non stick 12in. pan for years, more than I can count. I had it replaced under warranty several times over the many years. It was my go to pan. I loved it my husband shares cooking and I rarely saw him use anything else.

That said the new pan takes forever to heat up, and requires higher flame to cook the same foods. It is very heavy and awkward to lift. The lid is very nice, seals nicely and looks good. Overall I now am using other pans if able because this pan is not as efficient as old design.

The skillet is well made with removable (unscrewed) handle. This is one of a range (up to 28cm i believe). It needs to be oiled with an oily cloth before use and baked for at least half an hour at 200 deg C to season it.

After that it can be used. After use, clean with soapy water and re-oil for next use. It is well made and should last indefinitely if looked after. Excellent value for the money.

This is a great cooking pan. Very useful and well made. I bought a lid on eBay that fits it and makes it even more versatile. I would highly recommend this product for preparing sauces and for Indian and Chinese dishes.

I wish I could have bought one years ago.

This is my second cast iron pan from the same seller because I need one bigger and deeper than the first one. Both of them are very good quality. The wood handle is best.

I bought this recently and I’m very happy with the pan so far. It’s not cheap but you can tell right away this is a high quality product that will last. The construction feels high end (no one will ever think it’s a T-fall.

) with a modern look. I used it on a gas range and for everything I cooked so far the non stick works great, nothing burns (even those sweet marinades!). It has a good even heat distribution and I did not notice any hot spot.

Most time a quick rinse is all it takes to clean. I also put it in the dishwasher with no issues and the detachable handles makes it easier to fit it in and store (especially given the serious size!).

I love the Cristel Casteline products! Wish I had them earlier. I ummed a bit at the price initially, but they are worth every centre and more! They are quality products, look great and their removable handles make storage, washing up and having multiple saucepans on the cooktop at once easy to manage.

Love being able to stack the saucepans without handles getting in the way, especially great in a small kitchen with limited cupboard space. Highly recommend.

It’s beautiful. That’s where the love affair stops. This pan doesn’t season well. Fine, I’ll do it. The big issue is that there’s a lip on the bottom of the pan that stops it from being useful on anything but a gas stove or fire.

The lip lifts the entire pan up off the heating element on a grill, electric stove, glass top stove or conduction plate. So, it’s made totally useless outside of a specific condition, it Must be over fire.

For any one who likes to travel, or rents and doesn’t control the stove top or who would just bring it to a friends house for the big cook out, beware. It causes uneven heating and with the already difficult to retain seasoning, it leads to loads more work.

It’s the opposite of what a quality, long term investment should be.

Breaks my heart to give this one star but it’s almost unusable. I ordered this as a gift for my daughter. She’s used it, I’ve used it. We both have the good fortune to have collected some wonderful kitchen tools/supplies.

On a visit to friends for Thanksgiving I found out that they have the same pan. Unfortunately we all had the same unacceptable issue – the skillets have a significant raised spot in the center of this very shallow pan.

This causes any oil or sauce to collect around the edges and if low oil or sauce is used, the center of the pan is dry. This means that meat will sear unevenly and or burn at the center. It’s so disappointing for such a costly skillet.

My friend returned their first Smithey due to this issue and received a replacement only to have the same issue. This skillet also has exceptionally low sides. We seared lamb chops in this skillet and the 2″ chops were slightly higher than the edge of the skillet.

My daughter wanted SO much to love this – it’s a heirloom piece that should live for generations in her family but it’s so frustrating to use that it’s become something she admires but never uses.

I’ve used cast iron for years but this is the first time I’ve tried carbon steel. There is a learning curve here, but it’s well worth the effort. The carbon steel heats up more quickly than cast iron, but it also cools off more quickly which gives you much greater control over the temperature of the pan.

Butter, for instance, is very easy to scorch. If you notice cast iron getting too hot, even moving it to a cold burner sometimes won’t be enough to save your butter, but with the carbon steel you can adjust the flame down and the pan reacts almost instantly.

This level of control makes a delightful difference when cooking things like grilled cheese sandwiches or an over-easy egg. I am loving this pan. As others noted, the shallow, sloped sides make this pan much better for cooking things that need to be flipped (fried eggs, steaks, pancakes) than it is for things that need to be stirred around (sautéed veggies, ground beef, anything with a sauce.

) I would love to have a carbon steel pan in the shape of a traditional cast iron skillet — flat bottom, 2-inch sides— with a slightly domed lid to go with it. I would definitely buy it. This is just a marketing idea: I would love to be able to order one of these carbon steel pans with an engraving on the inner edge (like wedding band engraving) maybe right above the place where the handle is riveted on where you can see it while you’re cooking.

If people could personalise the pan with a little phrase or line that is meaningful to the giver/recipient (like “Cooking is an act of love” or “Grandma, you are my greatest inspiration”) I think people who were maybe on the fence about the price would decide to go ahead and do it.

It would turn a functional gift into a sentimental, meaningful one.

The skillet is surprisingly heavy. One of the big advantages of carbon steel pans over cast iron is their lighter weight…and this is similar to a regular cast iron pan. The second thing I noticed was that, as pictured, it is beautiful.

I know you shouldn’t fall in love with the color of carbon steel since it is going to get very dark as it seasons…but it is a beautiful copper color. The sides are dimpled with “hammer strikes” and the rest of the pan is smooth without any coarseness.

The direction say to simply wash with light soap and start cooking…but because I’m gun-shy of similar claims from others, I went with the America’s Test Kitchen seasoning, using potato skins, oil, and salt.

I assumed they seasoned as they said they did. I just wanted to add a process that I knew and trusted, so I didn’t test the effectiveness of their seasoning. However, when I went to cook, I browned the potatoes (from whence the skins came) and finished their cooking in the oven at high heat.

It released without complaint. I then tried the dreaded fried egg test. It swirled without any sticking. I fried bacon and found some gummy stickiness that didn’t come off with a paper towel. A bit of salt and another paper towel did the trick, though.

I put another egg in there after the sticking of the bacon fond and it easily swirled around. I’m convinced! I compared the browning/Maillard reaction ability against my trusty cast iron. There wasn’t a noticeable difference, and both performed well and cleaned up easily.

If you are one of those people who like to “toss” the food in the skillet using a jerk of arm, this is a nice skillet. The sides are less abrupt and more shallow than a typical cast iron, so the food tosses well.

Reminder that the farmhouse skillet is quite heavy, so you might evaluate on how much food you have in there if you want to do that. It is much better than a cast iron in that application.
