20 Best Sketchbook For Copic Markers (2023 Updated)

Bought two small copic sketchbooks when they were on sale for 6 dollars and they’re fantastic. No ink smudging, no marker bleed out over linework, no pencil smudging. I dont think ill wanna use another sketchbook.

Don’t buy this Copic Sketchbook – the markers bleed through. You would think they would make a marker book for their markers that prevented the bleed through.

If you use Copic, or any other alcohol markers, this is great paper. Like all other paper, it will bleed through if over saturated, but, that’s how paper works.

It really complements the copic marker ink. I was really impressed with the blending ability of the paper. I will definitely be buying the bigger sketch pad.

Doodling can take place any time anywhere more easily with this sketch pad. The cover being poly helps keep from having the cover fray or pull apart and helps keep from items being smeared or rubbed by possibly cardboard notebooks.

The pages are a great thickness and are fun to draw on with a variety of different items from colored pencils to pens and markers and even of decent thickness to paint. I am not a huge fan of acrylics at this time, but the watercolors I have dabbled with seem to hold up just fine and don’t saturate the pages.

Well, unless you have a dog come investigate what you are doing and knocks over some water on the page. The weight of the pages are very nice and allow you to really create a lovely piece of work that you could frame and display.

The weight is in the category of great acid free pages and heavy duty. It is small enough to carry with you for an impromptu art moment wand can bet stashed easily into a backpack, purse (unless a little sized cross body) or bag.

That way you can always carry it long it isn’t super heavy and when the mood strikes or inspiration stops you in your tracks, you can use this and capture that inspiration. Very delightful art sketch pad.

Ive had this sketch book for a year and its amazing. The paper is thick enough to make sure the pencil doesn’t indent the page behind however it doesn’t have a different texture. Usually the sketch books ive had for a year or more would be completely falling apart however this one is very durable and in perfect condition.

I would absolutely buy it again,.

My 8 year old son loves to draw. This sketch book allows him to draw while we are in the car, plane, or just out on the patio in the back of our house. His favorite part is the pages are perforated so he doesn’t have to cut the spiral notebook ends of the paper like he does with other sketch books like this.

The larger pages are also nice as well for more drawing space. By far his favorite drawing book he’s ever had! Highly recommended!.

These are great for learning to draw! I’m on my third one, and they’re great if you’re just using pencils or pens which I’ve been doing. I recommend these for stuff like figure drawing or doing studies, or even just playing with OCs and using colored pencils.

I also swatched some micron pens and some TomBows and there’s no bleed thru at all! Im not sure with alcohol markers or anything. The edges are preferated, but the paper is durable if you sketch while sitting a lot like I do.

We ordered these for students to use for their daily notes and sketches. They can practice with many graphites and inks without transferring onto next page. The students like the wire-bound edge so they can draw in any orientation.

The double hard cover also keeps the pages wrinkle-free and provides a sturdy backing for when sketching outdoors. The perforated pages are easy enough to tear out, but do not come loose overtime if you do not want them to come out.

The soft white paper is more cream, leaning tan-color than white. With the bulk discount offered, there is no better deal for an 80 page sketchbook.

Pro-art is a low end brand, but even so, I’ve found that their products are pretty consistently functional. I bought a small one of these for quick sketches as I don’t like having unbound sketches everywhere.

The paper is quite light, I place a notecard behind the page I am working on “just in case” when using ink or water color. As another reviewer negatively noted, it isn’t watercolor paper. but that should be obvious as the description states the paper is 65lb (flimsy watercolor paper is 90lb, decent watercolor paper is at least 150lb).

That said, it can be used with a light touch. but you are getting what you pay for: cheap, thin paper. The big plus? The cover on it is stout and even on the 4″x6″ the pages aren’t too deeply bowed near the spine (it lays relatively flat).

The Pro-art logo is embossed on the back, but I just used a glue stick to slap a postcard over it and called it the front instead. There are certainly better sketch books out there, but something nicer could easily be too precious feeling to use and abuse.

for me, a cheapie like this is good since it isn’t intimidating. Someone with a regular sketching habit already well established might prefer to choose something more tailored to their needs, but for a beginner or someone on a tight budget, this isn’t a bad start in my opinion.

It’s about the same as the quality of unbranded sketchbooks from chain bookstores for a fraction of the price.

Since I was expecting a paper that would handle a light watercolor sketch, I was very disapointed. There is no way this paper is going to handle wet meida of any kind well. Not even for sketching. Yes, if you are doing pencils I’m sure its great.

But not watercolor. I have a Pro-Art spiral bound notebook that looks exactly like this one but the paper is much heavier and made for watercolor. That is what I was looking for when I bought this one.

Not a hard bound notebook full of thin flimsy paper.

My kids need sketch books for art class and each year I buy new ones. They are pretty standard and are well liked by both of my burgeoning artists. HOWEVER–to keep the sketch book corners nice and crisp request that they are shipped with paper or padding to take up empty space in the box.

Mine arrived quickly, in a box marked “rush” and it appears as though the two sketchbooks got tumbled around in the box during shipping.

I use these sketchbooks for recording everything. All my projects and research as well as sketches and a variety of media. The paper holds up well to everything I’ve used on it, from pencil with repeated, heavy erasing, all the way up to pan watercolors and inks with heavy washes.

The paper does not really buckle. It’s not the best finish to showcase color, but considering the range of media it handles and the abuse it can stand up to it is wonderful. The covers are hard to damage.

The entire thing holds up extremely well under a lot of strain. I use them in work shops, around ag settings, in nature, in the kitchen, etc. the back pocket is perfect for a mini ruler, erasing guide, or other smaller tools.

They seem to be harder to find now, but are well worth seeking out. I haven’t found anything else that offers as much in performance and versatility.

I have 2 sizes of these, 5×8-14″ and 3. 5×5. 5″. They are great to take along while on the go. The covers are durable, and the elastic band closure is useful for keeping the books closed when they are in my backpack.

I carry the small one in a zipper case with my Micron pen set. The paper is excellent archival paper and works very well for drawing with pen & ink and with colored pencils. The expandable inner pocket comes in handy.

I will always purchase these – as long as they maintain the quality they are now.

The cover, binding and paper are all durable. So far I have used it for pencil, fine line pens, brush pens, and light watercolor washes. The paper holds up well even when applying multiple graphite layers.

None of the pens bled. Even though it is not advertised to be used with wet media, I’m familiar with other artists who have done so with this sketchbook, so I gave it a try. Using a moderate amount of water in small sections, the paper did not buckle.

Also, the sketchbook lies flat, as advertised, which is quite the bonus. Though I have yet to use a nib and ink in this sketchbook, I am confident that the paper would hold the ink well without bleeding.

I am very pleased with this purchase.

This blank notebook is excellent. The paper smooth, thick, and very water resistant for a celulose-based fiber paper. They use a good number of individual signatures to construct the book, meaning more sewing , meaning a stronger binding.

Across the center fold of each signature is 12 stitch points. The “rubber” cover has a nice tecture and incudes a melted in brand stamp. The cover can be easily folded back on itself. There is a closing elastic band that works well, but I would have liked this band to be a bit tighter than it is.

I am sort of bumbed out that it is made in China, I think most people come to Etsy for things not made in China. The price is amazing for such a well constructed notebook, and this price tag must be in large part due to its Chinese origins.

I just received my Leda Medium size sketch book. It took awhile to get here but well worth the wait. Let’s begin. the cover isn’t leather but a faux leather that will be waterproof should that be the case either due to rain or just a splash of water.

The paper is a very soft/slick feel to it. I’m used to writing on very textured paper and truly was shocked at this paper’s texture. I ran around letting everyone in my family feel the texture. Not all of them are arrist,.

just my 16 year old daughter and myself. I dont have time to write on it with different implements. I’ve used a pencil to write my name and i thought my name would slide right off of the page. I would definitely recommend this item to other sketches who want a different type of sketch book.

BTW. I forgot to talk about the ribbon that holds your placement in the book. ALSO there in the back there is a cute little pocket for you to place things in. Im really done this time. Buy this book.

Perfect size! Thicker than most sheets I have purchased in the past! No sticking, no burning, and clean up is a snap!

I have been using the Strathmore Sketch books in somewhat of an unorthodox manner for many years. As an ardent amateur naturalist, I was encouraged by a friend to begin keeping a nature journal. I am not a very good artist, so I don’t draw in these books as much as I display my nature photographs in them, and journal with many of my field observations.

My friends and family are very impressed with the quality of these homemade field guides. I am, in turn, impressed with the sturdiness of the Strathmore books in holding up over the years. The pages are just the right thickness to maintain my photos and even fragments of animals and plants that I find (these I “seal” in the book with clear packaging tape).

I’m very fond of how Strathmore gives you the best quality for your dollar. The pages aren’t as flimsy as, say, Canson– they’re something of a heavier weight as far as I can tell. The texture is good too, good for keeping graphite and other dry pigments in.

This is a nice, portable size I can use on the go, but it’s not too small to draw on.

Being a Graphic Artist, I have always purchased Canson products. But, my children are developing their artistic skills, and go through sketchpad after sketchpad. This product was perfect for my little budding artists! It’s durable, works great for varying medias, and is affordable! Will DEFINITELY purchase again!!.

This has been great goto book with great quality thick paper for my junior artists. It allows us to keep all art consolidated instead of loose paper expressions. Works great with paints too without warping.

My granddaughters love these sketch pads! The pages tear out cleanly so I can hang their art work around my house. The paper doesn’t get roughed up when erasers are used and they work well with markers too.

I bought each of our two granddaughters a spiral bound sketchbook for weekend fun at our house. They drew*wrote stories* reread what they wrote and drew and took them to their respective homes after so much repeated fun and usage.

This was a good bargain price and the spiral for a 5 and 7 year old was sturdy.

Not too much show through from markers. Our granddaughter loves using markers! I also like the spiral binding so I can save these books. Perfect for beginners

This paper is great for my busy, hands on toddler. The pages are thick enough not to tear when he turns the pages and his markers don’t bleed through. Two musts for a little guy!

This pad is acceptable quality paper and is actually 5×7″ in overall dimensions, but I was disappointed to find that the useable part of the paper is only 5×6. 5″. For the price, it’s fine. I just wish the useable size was 5×7.

I love their paper. I just ordered a few more books for myself. Their mixed media books have different textures on the front and backs of the pages, so there is lots to play with. Feels really high quality, holds my pen and marker and watercolors well.

I’ve went through a couple of these pads, mostly for sketches but occasionally for finished work. It’s a great paper for pencil work, and from my time using it, I think it’s best use is for work using water-soluable graphite.

I’d look elsewhere for a true watercolor pad, tho.

True to its name this product doesn’t bleed despite being super thin. The paper is sort of a thick tracing paper which I quite like since I don’t have to pull out my light table. However, of youre selling your art I wouldn’t recommend this paper, as its thinness makes it feel a bit cheap.

My biggest issue with this paper is that markers just won’t blend on it. It’s a great paper if you’re fine without blendingl, but the whole reason I bought the paper was to have something to do finished pieces on that can take the ink and blend well.

this did not deliver. I have repurposed this paper for thumbnail sketches, plain colored images, and swatches.

I’m using these pads for marker illustration, and as my “marker sketch book” I have used a couple different types of dedicated marker paper pads and the Copic is my favorite. I have used other inks and markers on the pad besides Copic and the results are vibrant and clean; works great for blending.

I have had bleed through issues with other pads, but these do not appear to bleed no matter how much one saturates, and I have tried. For those who have never used this paper. It is a very thin surface to work on; I compare the thinness close to tracing paper, without the complete transparency.

Keep track of the “up side” of the paper if you remove it from the pad. The outcome is different if you start your marker work on the underside.

this is an excellent product provided you use it the right side up as it is bleedproof on one side only. the Bleedproof side is exactly what you expect the ink does not penetrate the paper or creep ito a neighbouring colour.

however if you use it wrong side up (which is very easy as there is no mark on the good side to indicate which is the good side) the ink will bleed onto any paper you have beneath it and will creep into neighbouring colours the ink coverage is also blotchy.

DO NO BUY! It’s only day two of using this sketchbook and it’s falling apart. Pages I’ve drawn on and spent a lot of time on are falling out, not to mention the full spread pages are separated because the other half of the image fell out.

The binding is also completely detached from the binding cover. I’m going to have a buy a new one instead, I don’t want to return this because I already have a lot of sketches in here. Save your money and buy a better quality one.

Great Product. It has the feeling of a literature book rather than a sketch book. The pages are thick and a creamy brown. The cover feels like cardstock, but it is durable. The inside is composed of multiple smaller books binded together like a TOME book.

The outside only has the word Sketch and it reminds me of the word “Death note” I believe it can make for a great Journal or smashbook as well. I also want to mention that although it sounds weird it has a nice earthy smell to it.

Oh!!!! the pages remind me of vintage book pages similar to those that people make out of tea. Only these pages are flat. My humble opinion.

A big part of my job is to draw everyday. I previously have only used Strathmoore sketch books with the ring binding, but after spilling coffee all over mine and desperately running all over town at 930pm, I stopped at target to see what they have.

When I purchased this, I was expecting for it to just get me by so I could order my typical sketchbook online. I instantly fell in love with the binding. I can now draw larger scale pieces or smaller due to it not being a ring binder.

It’s pretty cool to see the stitches of the binding too. It reminds me of a moleskin without having to force it flat. But the paper is pretty similar to A moleskin’s. I’m probably gonna go buy the rest they have in store! I will note that the paper doesn’t have as much teeth to it as I’m used to, so it smudges a bit easier, but I’m so in love with it, who cares.

The paper is thin, but it is good for what I wanted it for. I keep it at work for a quick sketch of an idea. I don’t recommend using both sides of the paper if you’re using a fountain pen. The cover will get creased, unless you leave it on your desk (for a while I carried it around with me) It might be rather expensive, but it takes pencils and fountain pens (Decimo F) well enough.

Surprisingly love it! Bought this out of curiosity. Didn’t use it immediately but once I did I loved it! The paper is perfect for sketching for all kinds of pencils and depending on how you erase, the paper is sturdy enough to not crinkle.

Ink does okay but art markers will DEFINITELY bleed through. The design is unique too! Like a note-taking pad that melted into the cover pages. Looks like this type of sketchbook is only for pocket sizes so I hope Maruman makes one bigger like the others! (especially since this paper is thicker compared to the others.

Very handy little sketch book, I like that I can easily fold the cover around the back while using it. Paper is a bit thin for some media, but for pencil sketching is very nice. It’s quite smooth, but has a very slight uniform texture that is pleasing.

I have purchased these sketchbooks for my Drawing & Painting students several times now and they are my go-to for their affordability and generally decent quality. Is the paper really heavy and great for mixed media? No, but these limitations are minimal when compared with the overall value (I am on a very minimal budget).

I have students create personal covers for them as part of the handing out process and they seem to really enjoy having a sketchbook to use in class and at home. #sweepstakes.

I got this little sketchbook from a friend, actually – who won it as a prize. I thought ‘meh, just another throw away sketchbook to just toss doodles in’, and honestly this little sketchbook has done me really well! I like a nice paper that doesn’t bleed when heavy wet tools are applied to it – especially if they don’t bleed to the other side of the paper and this little sketchbook really does the trick! It warps like your basic paper when you use a lot of wet wash or paint, so I wouldn’t really call this a great watercolor book – but if you’re not fussy about some wrinkled pages, that’s just a minor detail.

It has a very, VERY smooth tooth, very little variation of the surface, and has taken to ink (microns, fineliners, brush, and nibs), colored pencil, and sketching pencil well. If I had one complaint it’s that if you use a crowquill or extra fine nib, it tends to tear up small teeny tiny pieces that gum up your nib.

Honestly, I tend to be a bit ‘art snob’ about my papers, most times I use bee paper company – but this little sketchbook? I’ll be picking up a few more!.

I have been using the Canson Sketch book for over 15 years now. I fill out one every 5-6 months. Many size options to tailor to your needs. The paper weight is not too thin and not too thick, therefore, the perfect weight for pen (my choice) as well as pencil, charcoal, conté.

The books are very durable, I have traveled with them and thown them around in many environments (photoshoots, set builds, on-locations, etc). My completed books stay in my studio and the quality of the acid-free paper and fidelity of what has been drawn on it stands the test of time.

Canson is the only brand sketchbook I buy.

I was impressed with the thickness of the paper in these notepads. They also offer such a fun and different – and more visually interesting – background for all the bold and bright Ooly art supplies.

This is the perfect size to take on the go, got the smaller one and it fits so well. Only down fall it just doesn’t seem to have a lot of paper. Other then that Greta product

I bought a notepad for both of my kids to use with Ooly Chunkies, chrome water colors, chalk pens and more. A great addition to the very fun Ooly supplies!

Excellent book – LOVE it so much. I’m using it as my first art journal and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Some of my markers bled thru but I used a page in the back as a “test” before using them.

I mostly use colored pencil, gel pens and other colored pens. The ivory paper seems less intimidating to a new “artist” too. \n\nFantastic find!!.

I LOVE this sketch book. The cover is durable and has already withstood several drops, spills, and two dogs that love to chew everything. The paper is a bit too glossy for me, but with the right pen I can’t even tell.

Leuchtturm sketchbooks have a lovely paper texture and can handle many of the mediums I like to use – I do note that some darker inks seem to bleed onto the other side a little if you really saturate the paper but I think that’s to be expected.

The cover seems sturdy and the pages lie nice and flat. Plus, I love the lemon colour I got!.

I have a bigger version of this sketchbook which I’m quite fond of. While the paper doesn’t really take wet medium (I tried watercolor only to have the paper crinkle up, bleed through and pill when using a water brush), it handles everything else really well.

I particularly like it for use with brush pens. The sketchbook opens flat, has that pocket in the back and the elastic is such a nice feature to keep it closed. This small one is a size I can more easily carry with me.
