Installed on my 2010 GT Sanction 2×9. Went on fine but I had to use two BB spacers to keep the chain from rubbing on it which in turn made a more dramatic angle on my chain so I bought and replaced one spacer with a thinner spacer.
Once that issue was bettered I found that to adjust tension other than the wheel adjustment you have to remove the crank every time, which could have easily been eliminated by supplying screws that have the hex screw on the other end just like the one on the wheel.
DUH! Finally because of the design of the groove in the wheel which moves the chain over, if you back peddle more that half a turn the chain climbs to the big ring and jams. Making it an inch or so longer may solve that issue since it would move it away from the chain ring and less of a chance that the chain would move over.
So it was totally useless on my bike, sending it back. PROS: Durable, Attractive Design CONS: Limited Compatibility, Heavy, Difficult To Install BEST USES: Mountain Biking, Single Speed Only.
Have this mounted on a Rocky Mountain Altitude 50 RSL with a Race Face bash guard. There was not room for the inner chain ring unless the BB spacer was positioned between the Stinger and the bearing cup.
I suppose that’s OK, but it makes the BB spacing 75. 5mm and requires adjusting the Front Derailleur. But for that little oddity, the thing went on without a hitch. It is clever in its simplicity of operation; the chain simply climbs to the larger roller shoulder when you shift to the small ring and drops to the smaller one when you up-shift.
It’s not a case of never dropping a chain, but it happens a lot less often. Probably worth the weight increase if your trails deliver a beating like mine do. PROS: Lightweight, Easy To Install.
Works great! Have used other chain tensioners in the past but I prefer this one. Making tension changes/adjustments are easy and the wheel rolls smoothly. Shifting big/small rings are also very smooth.

Been very happy with this guard, I ride in a place called Fort Rock, lives up to the name! Much more confident to ride over larger features on these trails without fear of hitting cog or BB. I tried another brand, but wouldn’t work due to size of chain guide and how close it is to chainstay pivot point.
Bike is a 2021 Stumpy EVO. Was given assurance before I purchased that is would work, and another customer has same setup on their stumpy EVO. Great costumer service before and after (online) sale. Bikes are so unique these days, parts aren’t a one size fits all, even though it would seem some would be that way.
No matter how many spacers I use I am rubbing the chain when I shift to one end of my drivetrain or the other. Shimano Deore 1×11. If you’re expecting $60 for a small piece of aluminum and some plastic, I don’t want to have to DIY to get it to work, and it seems like a lot of people do.
Opening for the chain needs to be bigger. It works now that my chain has filed off the edge for me. May be the best option, but that isn’t saying much. Some easy money to be made here and improvements to be had for anyone with access to CAD and ebay.
Great product. Easy to install with perfect fitment on my 2021 Polygon Siskiu T7. Worked with my factory 32 tooth round chain ring and also with my 30 tooth oval chain ring. Paid for itself on my first ride after i installed it.
I hit a wood bridge too wide. My front tire road the bridge but my back tire dropped off and I drug the bash guard a good 4 feet across the edge carrying the full weight of me (190lbs), my bike and gear.
The guard has some scrapes on it but the chain ring was untouched. Super durable!.
I was getting tired of my chain derailing in the same rock garden. I run two front chainrings and did not want to spend a lot of money on a chain guide. I thought I would give this a try. Wow it really worked well and was very afordable.

I’ll start off that looks aren’t everything. It isn’t a flashy piece when viewing it online, but it functions amazingly and looks pretty darn good once installed. I run a 1×9 setup and needed something functional, but easy on the wallet.
I was not disappointed with this product!. The install was simple and it functions like it was designed to. No more chain drops for me! PROS: Lightweight, Durable, Easy To Install BEST USES: Mountain Biking, Upgrade.
Just what I was looking for – a little extra insurance at a reasonable price! I rarely drop a chain so the idea of spending $60-$100 on a chain guide seemed ridiculous, especially considering the extra weight and sometimes difficult installation.
The Origin8 guide is easy to install – just bolt it on the seat post and adjust. The guy who says it failed to keep his chain on clearly has problems wuth his set-up, not the guides fault – it does exactly what it was designed to do and is lite and durable.
I had converted a bike with a 3×9 drivetrain to a 1×11 and had problems with chain drop when using a conventional chain ring. This guide did not retain the chain at all. It only made putting the chain back on more difficult when it did fall off.
The problem was solved by switching to a narrow wide type chain ring. I found the guide unnecessary at that point.

Keeps the chain from falling off! Must have for the desert. Wish mine had the chainring size marking like previous ones did. Made the initial setup a bit of a guess. Also would have been nice to include some additional mounting hardware for the price you pay.
Those are my only gripes. I would say if you ride in rough conditions and have issues with your chain falling off buy this and it won’t happen again. Also increases chain life.
I’ve got this on my 2021 Stumpjumper Evo and it’s saved my chainring several times already and isn’t any worse for the wear. Setup was simple and took about 15 minutes to remove the old chain guide and install the whole thing.
I’ve got an absolute black oval chainring on the bike so I had to use the next size up bash guard to keep it from having one side of the pedal stroke where the chainring wouldn’t be protected, but it comes with three sizes so no issues there.
Overall I’d say it’s a necessity if you’re planing on riding rowdy and don’t want to flatten teeth on your chain ring.
After bashing a few chain guides I picked this one up as a quick fix. While its really strait forward and basic it wouldn’t fit my Specialized frame. The attachment point is a square tube and this is only compatible with a round tube.
Wish is would have fit. PROS: Easy To Install, Lightweight CONS: Limited Compatibility.
Riding freely its a great feeling. I used to pace myself in rough trails to avoid the chain from going out of the chainring or riding in certain cog combinations to help the chain to stay in place, but now I can just ride as fast and agresive as I like.
Great quality, easy setup and not as big or clunky as other similar devices.
There are a few things to consider when tensioning a single speed chain. First, the chain should be tight enough that it doesn’t fall off, but not so tight that it puts undue stress on the chainring or cog.
Second, the chain should be aligned so that it runs smoothly between the cog and ring. Third, the chain should be lubed so that it runs smoothly and doesn’t rust.
Assuming that the chain is the correct length and the ring and cog are properly aligned, the chain can be tensioned by first putting the chain around the ring and cog. Next, pull the chain tight and hold it in place with one hand.
With the other hand, use a chain tensioner tool to tighten the chain by turning the tensioner clockwise. The chain should be tight enough that there is no slack, but not so tight that it is difficult to turn the pedals.
Once the chain is tight, lock the tensioner in place so that it doesn’t loosen.
