Like Zeus weilding lightning bolts, he deftly precisely throws his microphone towards The Audience snatching it back to himself, only to twirl it amazingly two then three times to hurl it once again back at them.

There has never been a harder working Mike in the business. And 50 years later it still has no equal. Aside from the Les Paul, or Strat, it remains one of the best things to ever solidify Rock and Roll as an art form or a religion.

Shure 58′ are a classic microphone to use most anywhere. For me we do live shows and podcast (DanceCast @ RadioKing) with this mic. To get this deal is a real bargain! I own 4 of these right now and we use them for everything.

You need to know the range and sweet spots (see enclosed chart) for the best vocals but once you understand mic placement these are real workhorses. For my money there these are the “real thing” in microphones, every thing else is a dice roll at best.

I ventured out into other dynamic mics, and for my voice in particular it suits me the best of anything I have ever found. It has a warmth and low end to it that takes the harshness out when I’m singing powerfully, but has enough mid and high end to still sound great and cut through the mix.

I tried other dynamic mics but they have to much mid and high leading it so sound a bit too harsh for my style of singing. In the end I think it depends on the singer to find the best fit, but you know you can never go wrong with an sm58.

It’s so versatile too, I’ve used it in a pinch for home demo’s recording acoustic guitar, put it in front of a guitar cab into a PA, and used it on a snare and bass drum live. While those aren’t it’s intended use, I’m always surprised by how this mic can be used for almost anything in a pinch.

It’s certainly very well rounded. It’s also extremely durable, I’ve seen punk bands try and break one and they still work afterwards. If your feeling anxious about making the right purchase, this is one mic that you’ll likely never have buyers remorse from.

When the pandemic hit I had to use Zoom to talk to clients while I worked from home. I struggled for months with my PC’s built-in low quality microphone. Keystrokes and washer/dryer noises were super loud in my audio.

I finally decided to spend $$$ on a setup that better represents me professionally. Since this mic is popular with podcasters I knew it would meet my needs. The first benefit is the look. This mic is handsome and communicates that I was willing to spend some money on my setup.

Second, it’s spectrally complete; whether you need more lows or more highs, this mic gives your signal chain something to work with. One quirk of the SM7B is that it performs best with an ultra low noise preamp with 30 dB or more of clean gain.

While there are cleaner, pricier options, the DBX286 has ample preamp gain and is more than clean enough for zoom meetings. The SM7B has a cardioid pattern, so sounds from behind the mic aren’t picked up.

By keeping my keyboard in this area (and using the noise gate on the DBX286) I was able to completely eliminate keystroke chatter from my audio feed. Finally, the output level of the DBX286 was a little hot for my sound card and caused clipping, so I switched to a Scarlet 2i2.

While there may be more budget options available, I’m thrilled with how this setup looks and sounds. I get compliments on my audio quality.

Fantastic Dynamic Microphone. This is a Professional Mic and one of the best out there with a big reputation amongst users. First thing I noticed how clear and quiet It was. Build quality is fantastic.

I recommend you get a cloud lifter or something similar just to give it a bit of gain to sound even better like a true pro. You will need 48V for that. Dont forget you won’t get perfection even with this Mic even though it’s great at rejecting noises.

You need an acoustic treated environment if In a studio or even in a Room. A great Mic like the SM7B will show the weaknesses in your environment without acoustic treatment. A decent interface or preamp as well.

Dont forget the XLR cable as well and buy a nice cable for it as its worth it. I love the sm7b and it’s a great experience using it live when others wonder what are you talking through.

Everything that has been written positively glowingly about the Shure SM7B is absolutely true!!! 😉 sound reproduction is extraordinary, tuned for voice and patterned to reject off axis and unwanted noise.

Proximity effect boost is perfect up close. Love this mic! Only one thing t Ill say (and why its 4 stars instead of 5) is that if youre going to buy an SM7B for voice work youre definitely going to need a cloudlifter if your not willing to eat it (speak right on top of it) 24×7.

Signal is beautiful , warm and true but signal is Faint and needs help. Plan an extra $100 to get a CL-1 if you buy the SM7B, but once you do, this mic is totally unleashed to reach its full potential! Acts like a condenser mic almost while retaining its great dynamic mic qualities.

This is my favorite mic model that I used for 10 years running in a traveling rock band with many drops and no failures. The gold standard of live vocal amplification! The on-off switch is a nice option, and this can be locked in the on position by reversing a metal tab and tightening a screw.

Although not mentioned in the ad, this mic comes with a factory clip and vinyl zipper carrying bag. The stand is very sturdy and steady. much more than I expected. The 20 foot cord works great with nice cable flexibility.

If you desire a better quality cord, you can always use this for a backup. This is an unbeatable deal.

When I was in undergrad in 2003, I took a music technology class, where I was told that if I wanted a great mic for a reasonable price, the Shure SM 58 was the way to go. It was great for vocals, but could be used for just about anything well.

Naturally, when I needed a mic, I took that advice. In fact, I bought 3. They have been outstanding. A few months ago, my Grad School hosted a 1. 5 hour virtual class on great equipment to use to get the best sound.

IšverstiShow in original languageIf you search the Shure SM7B on Google, one of the top ads from Shure identifies it as “The Mic You’ve Already Heard. ” It’s true–I’ve seen plenty of podcast videos with the SM7B in the studio.

Ever since I started using the Shure MV7 as my day-to-day microphone, I’ve wanted to make the leap to the SM7B but always hesitated. Price was one of those big reasons. the SM7B is no doubt a quality piece of gear, but it comes with a $400 price tag.

If you’re in the business of any type of audio production, this may not be much. but I’m anything but in the business. I love gadgets, and over the last two years (thanks, COVID. ) I’ve worked to incorporate higher-quality sound and video production into my regular 9-to-5.

Exceedingly better studio speakers, audio interfaces, amplifiers and proper microphones have all found their way to my desk setup at home. For what you ask? Better video conferences, of course. So as ridiculous as that may sound, here’s a hot take on the SM7B.

It is a very quiet microphone, quieter than the other XLR mics I’ve used in the past. An audio interface with the ability to add gain is a requirement at a minimum, but if that gain isn’t clean you might find yourself needing a preamp booster (Cloudlifter, or similar).

There is only an XLR connection, so an audio interface of some sort is required. Shure also sells an XLR to microphone adapter called the X2u, which might work in place of a traditional audio interface and preamp booster.

The back of the mic allows for some basic on-device adjustment (“Flat Response,” “Bass Rolloff” and “Presence Boost”). Depending on how you mount the SM7B and the quality and size of your XLR connections, you may find you need (as I did) an extension tube to allow for complete movement once mounted.

I have a desk-mounted boom arm and purchased Shure’s A26X 3″ extension tube to allow for the most flexibility when positioning the arm and the mic (If your setup is more static, this extension tube may not be a requirement).

The SM7B itself looks great, as you’d expect from Shure products. It has solid construction and sounds great, once properly amplified. Is it overkill for someone who doesn’t do any professional sound production? Probably–even the MV7 was a bit overkill for that.

Hopefully, though, you have a slightly better handle on the other pieces that may be required alongside the SM7B to add to your setup.

The swiveling bracket adjusts easily for precise positioning. The SM7B feels great, slim and smooth, and its construction feels reliable and sturdy, though I personally limited my usage to studio and workspace recording.

In my testing, the SM7B sounds amazing. It has just a very clean output for my instruments and vocals alike. It performs exceptionally well in my small, soundproofed studio affixed with foam wall fixtures.

But I was more impressed with the sound quality in a non-optimal, unfixed bedroom environment. The flat, wide-range frequency response is unmatched; there is zero feedback and no static interference whatsoever, even around several operating laptops, two external monitors, and numerous electronic devices.

The included windscreen makes up-close vocals and whispers move without the pops and crackles of lesser microphones. Bottom line, this is the microphone that provides the professional performance you need to be taken seriously in any recording environment.

Shure’s SM7B is everything you need in a dynamic microphone, with its rugged build, versatile application, and unparalleled quality. The brand you should trust with your recording needs did it again, and it isn’t a surprise.

But if you get serious, you will soon want a better audio/video setup. The Shure SM7B cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone will be a fine choice until you’re so famous that you have your own professional studio with a production crew and your name on the building.

Honestly, most people’s hearing and their listening equipment can’t hear any improvements as you advance beyond this level of studio mic. FEATURES: • The switches under a cover at the back end allow you to set up the dynamic response of the mic.

Shifting curves give you a visual indication of what frequencies you are pushing or reducing. • Excellent sound reproduction. • Fits standard mic mounts. • The Cardioid sound pick-up pattern is very direction and ignores sounds coming from anywhere in the room except the front making it a VERY quiet mic for studio use.

• Two Year Limited Warranty. PROS: • Pop Filter, Air Suspension and Shock Isolation assure only the voice gets through without ambient studio noise. • Advance electromagnetic shielding prevents interference or hum from monitors and computers in the studio.

CONS: • At this level of mic, it’s assumed you’re probably upgrading your system, so if you don’t already have certain other audio items like Mic Stand, Cable or Mic Activator, you’ll have to purchase them separately to begin using this mic.

It won’t simply plug into your cell phone. CONCLUSION: The SM7B Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone won’t hold you back in creating excellent sound quality.

I bought this mic for recording Quena & Zampona at home, so close miking to minimise environmental noises. For this application it’s great and it’s presence boost really enhances these flutes tone very nicely indeed, sounds amazing even with no EQ.

My audio interface has fairly limited gain range & the SM57 signal level is easily within that range for this application. I don’t currently have any need for more distant miking. Being a dynamic mic the output is low compared to condenser mics which are internally amplified & therefore lend themselves to distance miking without additional amplification.

I see some negative comments by people who bought the wrong mic for their distance miking application. This can be overcome simply by buying a small inline phantom powered mic amplifier that plugs directly into the base of a dynamic mic.

There are several brands available. As these amps are right at the mic, there is zero additional noise before amplification, making the amplified signal as clean & strong as much more expensive condenser mics.

This is definitely the way to go if you need more gain and a great way to go for vocals on a tight budget.

A friend of mine and I have been writing original songs and we didn’t have a way to record, so we dug out the old cassette tape Tascam 6 track recorder and headed to Sam Ash. The guy at the microphone deck was great! Very informed and very helpful.

I explained that we’re recording in a big echoey warehouse and he immediately suggested the SM57 dynamic mic cause it’s unidirectional and will help to somewhat isolate the instrument in an open setting while picking up a strong, solid signal.
