20 Best Shop Vac Dust Collector (2023 Updated)

kinda disappointed with this one. I have Wen 13″ planer and 8″ jointer which i hooked this dust collector up to, but it gets clogged up quickly at the impeller screen and so it can’t handle the larger chips.

It works very well with table saw and miter saw which throw finer dust. It is decently quiet which is a plus.

I didn’t notice when I first turned it on but now that I have it mounted on my wall, it vibrates a lot and makes a lot of noise with the metal wall. It shakes the whole wall. I may have to put it on the floor.

Update: Even on the floor it makes a lot of noise, more than any of my other equipment. I can’t use this.

I just got it. how would i know if it performs reliably? it is really really noisy. I took it off of the cart and attached it to the cnc engraver cabinet. its little quieter mounted, but still very very noisy.

I purchased this unit to replace a 2-stage system I built a few years ago. 1st thoughts are it is pretty quiet, but I had to pad the handle that cleans the dust filter as it rattled adding to the nose.

2nd I have 2 hoses running from the system and with the screw it only allows for you to connect them one over the other, as opposed to side by side. So far the suction has been great, the over all design could use a little tweaking, like a tad bit larger wheels for moving it around the shop.

Outside of those few minor issues, I am very pleased and hope to expand on the system soon.

Bought the JCDC-1. 5 two months ago after much research for a small shop setup. Assembly was pretty straightforward with the included instructions. However, problems started immediately on first use when it tripped the breaker on startup.

I’m in a new house with 20 amp circuits in the workshop area. Tried other circuits in the garage with the same result–tripping breaker on startup. Specs say it should be able to run fine on a dedicated 15 amp circuit.

Called and paid an electrician to run a new dedicated 20-amp circuit in the garage just for the DC–same result. Called JET tech support, which sent a new electrical box. No instructions included in box, but I managed to install the new box.

Same result! Called and paid another electrician to inspect wiring and confirm no issues with panel or wiring, which he did. He notice the DC was drawing 80 amps on startup, which is higher than the startup specs.

Called JET tech support again, which sent a new motor. New motor arrived with no instructions for installation or impeller. Managed to remove the old motor but old impeller will not come off despite my best efforts.

Now I’m 2 months in and haven’t been able to use my brand new DC and the best that JET apparently can do for me is direct me to an authorized service center (expecting me to load this thing up and transport it, when it was delivered on a box truck and pallet) or put me on a waiting list for an onsite visit once the pandemic has passed.

Very frustrating!.

Im happy with this Jet dust collector. Its well suited for my home shop (800 sq ft, 8 dust collection hookups). Assembly was fairly simple, but could be improved. I was able to assemble it in 45 minutes with no help.

Packing was excellent and it arrived undamaged. Air flow at each machine is substantially better than my old Grizzly 1023. Its also much quieter (75 dB) vs 90+ dB for the Grizzly. I can even run two machines at once with sufficient dust collection.

Emptying the canister is a breeze.

I bought this off Amazon about 18 months ago and have used it for everything from dust extraction on my drum sander to cleaning up jobsites. IT IS NOT A SHOP VAC. let’s get that clear. It’s called a dust extractor for a reason.

This vac clogs easily with large debris and can be a pain to clear with such a small diameter hose. It serves it’s purpose well for dust extraction. If you need a Shop Vac, buy a Shop Vac. Compared to my CDC Larue dust vac, it’s well worth the price.

There is a difference in suction but that’s to be expected considering the dewalt is less than half the price of the CDC and it clogs up just as often. The Good: -Self cleaning filters provide consistent suction even with fine particles like drywall dust -Filters last a long time, are washable, and are reasonably priced.

I’m still using the original set and have not needed to clean them yet. -Large wheels on the back and casters on the front for mobility -Thick plastic body is very durable -Fairly lightweight when empty -Large capacity -Bags available make emptying the vac very easy -Adjustable suction -Tool activated feature -Meets EPA LEAD requirements The Bad/Needs Improvement: -Locking hose mechanism is bulky when hooked up to hand power tools.

I’d prefer a generic friction fit hose instead -Hose leaves black marks on everything it rubs against -Hose easily unscrews from locking ends -Hose is plastic and fairly stiff compared to other more flexible rubberized hoses -No accessories included.

a brush or wand would have been nice for the price -Hose storage is clumsy -No storage for accessories -Requires some Macgyver skills to hook up to 2 1/2″ ports(I use a dust cyclone with my drum sander, planer, shaper, and table saws for large quantities of dust collection) Now with all that being said, I am about as anti-dewalt as it gets.

This is the only tool I’ve ever bought from dewalt and it gets used daily. I am very satisfied with the purchase. might even consider buying a second one for multiple jobsites. It mainly gets 4 stars because of the hose.

If they switch to a different hose material and get rid of the proprietary locking system that they are so proud of, I would give 5 stars.

I have owned this unit for a number of years now. I have a number of dust extractors. I do seam to grab this one over others. I use it with my track saw which will sit on top. I like the locking system, but they could be better.

Stiff when new. It is nice to be able to connect and lock a tool to the vac hose. It roles and goes up and down stairs easily. The variable suction is nice and easy to adjust. That being said there are things I do not like.

Hose management is poor. Hard to move handle up and down with hose wrapped. It has a large footprint.

The Dewalt DRV012R HEPA Dust Extractor is a good value. The vacuum attachment does not come with it. You have to purchase it separately. This could run between $300-$700 dollars depending on manufacturer and condition.

I purchase the dust extractor for about half the price. The box had been open so it was sold as use. It was never used. Also, one issue I have with it is that the hose keeps detaching releasing dust.

I receive a number of hose attachments that came with the unit but it’s a mystery on which one fits perfectly. If you do rehab or large scale drywall jobs, this product will significantly reduce your time.

Also, it doesn’t work well in smaller spaces unless they have a smaller hand tool. Something I have to explore. I will definitely be using this more often.

I was confused as to the differences between a dust extractor and a wet/dry vac. (i. e. can a dust extractor be used as a wet/dry vac. ) I also was tired of spending a significant amount of time cleaning up dust after a project.

So I took a chance and ordered this unit. I live in a condo and don’t have the luxury of a dedicated indoor workshop with plumbed dust extraction. The Dewalt 8 gal dust extractor is an extremely well build dust extractor that can also be used as an all around “shop vac”.

The best part about a dust extractor is that is puts out clean air via it HEPA filtration. The dewalt units are great because they connect to virtually every Dewalt tool with a locking twist of the hose end.

You can also solidly attach conventional vacuum attachments to the hose. Finally, the bags on these units are very robust. They attached very securely to the unit and from what I can tell keep the unit insides clean.

The auto thumping feature hopefully prevents from having to clean the filters! Only down side to the unit is that it pulls some noteworthy amperage so, you cannot connect a miter or table saw to the same circuit unless you have a heavy load circuit.

This unit does have the ability to turn on automatically when you power on your supported tool. This feature is great for sanding and especially power planing.

I have had this vacuum for 4 and a half months and feel I can sufficiently rate the tool. The good stuff: I love the length of hose on this thing The wheels roll great and have a wide enough base that it doesn’t tip when you are using it fully extended.

It came a with a fleece bag and two hepa filters It’s fairly light Of course the tool power on/off feature The not so good stuff: There is negligible hose management. It is a stretchy band on a clip that holds the extra long hose in a bundle on one side of the vacuum.

It is an 8 gallon vacuum – they only sell 12 gallon bags to go in it. Such a waste of room in the vacuum body the bag never fills more than 20 – 30% (With the hepa filters in place. ) In four months it has around 10-15 hours on it and less than two using the tool switch.

As of today the tool powered on off switch no longer functions. The vacuum simply stays on when powered on regardless of a tool being used or not. Overall The only thing that would make me buy it again is that it is cheaper than others.

I love this vacuum. Good suction, the thumper keeps the filters clean much longer than vac’s without it, the hose is a good length. It’s a small size and manageable in residential houses but not too small that it doesn’t have decent holding capacity.

The thing that irks me the most is the hose. The hose marks up EVERYTHING. I’m a finish carpenter and remodeler. I can’t bring this vacuum anywhere without expecting to have to hunt for black marks after I clear out.

White trim, unfinished floors, vanities, tubs, toilets, ANYTHING. It leaves black marks on it. So annoying. And it really makes a bad impression with customers. Also, no attachments come with? Kinda weak for the price of it, if you ask me.

Also wish there were an attachment holder of some sort. Overall I still love this vac. Good features and good performance. Some fine tuning still needed.

Haven’t had the opportunity to use it yet. I need to purchase some PVC reducer couplings so it will hook up yo mr surface planer and jointer. When I started looking at the Harbor Freight dust collector I read quite a few reviews complaining that some of the holes for assembly didn’t line up and holes either had to be redrilled or elongated to get everything to fit.

When I unpacked mine I took all the hardware and separated it into like groups. I took my time assembling the dust collector. The fit and finish on this thing was flawless. Everything aligned up just like it should.

There was no elongating any holes or having to drill holes to get it assembled. After reading all the reviews several months earlier I was expecting the worst and hoping for the best. It went together very easy with no issues whatsoever.

The hardest part to the final assembly was installing the plastic bag and getting it secured. It was a little big and ended up bunching it together and putting painters tape on it to hold the bag on while the strap was installed.

Otherwise I think I would have needed four hands to install the plastic bag. Once the strap was on the tape was pulled off. I turned it on and used it to pick some saw dust off the floor. As far as actually doing what it was designed for only time will tell but I am extremely hopeful at this point.

Once I can get the reducers and couplings I need and get yo use it I will add to this review.

If you are reading this, you should know this is one of the best items HF sells. I have been running this collector for 2 years–probably 20 hours a week. Flawless. It easily manages all my stationary tools.

Table saw, miter saw, planer, jointer, router table, drill press, etc. It does a great job reduced down to 2. 5″ hose. It isn’t great reducing to 1″-1. 5″ hose on handheld power tools, but that is physics.

That’s what a dust extractor is for. I never set up the filter bag assembly, so I can’t comment on that. I’m basically just using the motor and impeller housing mounted on a Super Dust Deputy 5″, a 30 gallon fiber collection drum, Wynn filter, Fosman remote power switch, a Gamma Seal and obligatory 5-gallon HF bucket to collect the fine dust.

It is all mounted in my shed adjacent to my garage. I started off with the stock 10″ impeller, the motor only drew about 10. 5 amps once up to speed. Upgraded to a Rikon 12″ impeller. Huge difference in suction.

Night and a day. Amp draw only went up to about 13. 0 amps. I’m on a 15 amp breaker and it’s never tripped. Motor pulls about 70 amps of inrush on start up. Well worth it, though changing the impeller was a massive undertaking.

Had to buy a hub puller to get the OEM impeller off the shaft, and even then it was seriously seized. I’m sure I voided my 2-year service plan in doing so, but I made it the 2 years. There are a lot of threads online about everything I did on this rig.

One last consideration, if you are planning to mount yours in a separate room–it will suck the A/C or heat out of the the room in an instant. I added A/C to my garage and quickly found this out the hard way.

I ended up building an enclosure around my filter to scavenge the exhaust from the filter and re-routed it back into my garage. For about $700 and a weekend of work, I would say you can compete with a $1200-$1300 turn-key collector.

If my motor ever fails, I wouldn’t hesitate buying another one of these.

I purchased this to replace my Delta 1hp that was having motor issues and motor replacement costs were more than this new 2hp unit. Also I was looking for something I could connect a series of tools to.

This unit looked like it would fit my needs. Assembly was typical. Instructions are about worthless but its not to difficult to figure out. Once assembled, I put it to the test with my 25inch drum sander, which produces a ton of dust.

The dust collector was powerful and worked great. My only reason for a 4 star instead of 5 star is due to the collection bag. The lower collection bag is clear plastic. Once the bag had some volume in it, the weight caused the plastic to pull through the clamp strap, thus filling the air with dust.

The lower bag needs to be constructed just like the upper bag and then the problem will be solved. I will end up having a bag made so this doesn’t happen again. Even with the bag issue, the unit seems like it will fit my needs and I would recommend it.

From the first use, the motor would stop/start intermittently. I probably should have returned it immediately, but wanted to continue production so I opened-up the electric control box and noticed a few loose spade connectors.

Ran fine for a while, but then wouldn’t start with switch, only start with remote. Ultimately won’t start at all. Additionally, DO NOT run this on a 15 amp circuit. 20 amp minimum. It does collect dust well when you can get it to run.

Typical under-designed Chinese-made machine.

Works well for what it is. I use it as a booster in my dust collection system to get more draw at my miter saw, works well enough for me.

Entering contest and hoping to try out this HEPA Vacuum. Working in a Hospital in occupied areas requires strict adherence to a dust free environment. This battery operated vacuum would be a valuable asset to our list of ICRA products needed to perform interior renovations in occupied areas.

The battery operation would eliminate the need for temporary 120V power to operate our existing HEPA vacuums. i. e. cords etc.

Super powerful and able to adjust. Excellent filtration. Pretty quiet for what it is capable of. I can put the track saw in a Makita systainer and roll it around the job site, store accessories in another – big plus for me.

I’ve been using this for nearly a year now and this continues to perform flawlessly. The dust collector was delivered promptly and was very simple to assemble. You definetly need a friend to help as the unit is large enough to be awkared to handle alone.

Additionally, the motor is quite heavy. Once it is set up it moves around on the included casters smooth and easy. This unit does an excellent job on large and small debris. I use it on my planer, tablesaw, bandsaw, router table, and purchased a 4″ vacuum wand for it as well.

This unit doesn’t care if it is MDF dust or heavy shavings from a hand plane. It sucks them all up and efficiently collects them in the two collection bins. Large 20 gallon bin under the cyclone is great as it doesn’t need to be emptied that often.

The fine dust is collected in a smaller container that hangs from the pleated filter on the exhaust and manages to capture even the finest particles. Great product.

I bought this from Woodcraft 3 years ago and it has been great ever since. The bin fills up pretty fast when milling wood but that is to be expected with only 30 gallons. Every now an then the remote will not shut the machine off but it hasn’t really been to much of an issue.

It has great air movement, I have if connected to my table saw, band saw, planer and jointer, miter saw, and CNC and it handles them all great (not at the same time). It is loud but not unbearable in a two car garage/wood shop.

Overall it is a great collector and have been very happy with it.

My wife insisted I purchase a dust collector to save my lungs, so this is it. Like many, I thoroughly confused myself with the myriad research by Bill Plenz, Oneida, etc. as to what would be the most cost effective, yet efficient way to remove dust from my shop.

I have one bay to my three car garage dedicated to my projects. This past year, I addicted myself to bowl turning. I knew I needed power, but didn’t want to break my piggy bank wide open. When this new 2 hp cyclone came on the market, I knew it fit my parameters.

It is powerful enough for my small shop (I’m a one tool at a time user) and when it went on sale, fit my target budget. I own several Jet tools and have not had any quality issues with them. The cyclone’s footprint fits my small shop ideally and is surprisingly quiet.

Coupled with my new air filtration unit, my dust problems are well controlled. Like most bowl turners, I still have chips fly when turning, but the fine dust from sanding and working is gone. I have to maintain a firmer grip on any rags or sandpaper as they will get sucked up if I’m not careful! I have not performed any CFM measurements to check the factory specs and probably won’t as I believe this piece of equipment is right for me.

You will need at least two people to assemble as it is a bit of a beast. Instructions were clear, assembly was easy. I like the portability of the unit as everything is on casters. Overall, a nice piece of equipment.

Lot of suction, easy bag replacement. Filter catches all partials I can see visually.

The dust collector works as advertised on the manufacturer’s website. The addition of the vortex cone to the dust collector makes a big difference toward keeping the filter clean. The dust collector is used in a wood working shop.

My previous dust collector was a shop vac. Now I have a dust collector that actually works.

Very happy with this unit. The sound rating is 65~70 db per the manual, and while I’m not sure about that, it is pretty quiet, and quiet enough not to need hearing protection. Two people talking is ~ 66 db by the way.

Packaging is sufficient, and my unit arrived in perfect condition. The fit, finish, and parts supplied are all excellent. This is a smaller Jet unit at 650 cfm, and only recommended for use with one machine at a time with a 10′ 4″ flex hose.

I’m very happy with it, and it works perfectly in my home wood shop.

This dust collector works fine if you are running just one machine at a time. The canister filter is a huge improvement over bags. It was hard for me to justify the price of the canister but soon forgotten when considering air quality in the shop.

I had some shipping damage and got in touch with JPW by email. They stepped up and resolved it a 100% to my satisfaction, the mark of a quality company.

Air flow is pretty good, but not enough to get all of the dust from either the band saw of table saw. Works well for the Dewalt 735 planer. If I were to buy a new dust collector, I would go for one with a higher airflow.

CFM volume well-suited for most shops. Greatly reduces saw dust (also depends upon egress chute, too). Not too noisy but I wear hearing protection with almost all tools anyway. Easy to assemble, quality parts (maybe except for cheapesh handles and could use beafier wheels).

Comes with must-have remote control. Is it worth the money? For me, yes. But shop around for deals.

This dust collection unit has been a great addition to our wood shop. We needed enough power to collect sawdust from a CNC, table saw, and rotary saw. This system allowed us to plumb about 30 feet of hose spanning these work areas without losing suction.

Using Y sections, reducers, and 3 gates, we can successfully collect sawdust from one or more items at a time. Also, we find the spinning rotary filter cleaner makes it very easy for shop personnel to knock down the dust from each use.

The round, plastic bag holder is a bit of a struggle to learn at first, but with some practice we find it’s easy to remove and empty. This has made a huge difference in the cleanliness of our wood shop! Having once used a Jet bag system, this seems to be a lot more user friendly, and more powerful.

The disposable bags are also much more convenient than the old cloth bags we used to use with a prior system.

I decided to buy this to upgrade from using a Harbor Freight 2hp bag collector with the Oneida canister filter on it. For both of these comparisons I have a 55 gallon metal drum with the oneida cyclone attachment on it that sits before the dust collector From a CFM perspective, at the intake with no cyclone/55gal drum in front of it: The HF would range from 548 cfm to 854 cfm measured using an Anemometer at the intake.

The Mini Gorilla would range from 1024 cfm to 1194 cfm. From a particulate filtering perspective, measured with a Dylos DC1100 Pro, over an 8 hour period: The HF (when running) would range from 106 (.

5 micron) to about 1300 (pm2. 5) The Mini gorilla (when running) would range from 34 (. 5 micron) to about 424 (pm2. 5). So for about $1700 more you’re getting much better particulate filtering and about 20-40% more CFM and suction.

The reason for my 2 stars knocked off: 1. It only takes about 10-20 board feet of wood to have a massive drop in suction from the filter getting clogged. 2. This is the highest maintenance machine in my shop.

Even with a pre-cyclone to catch most of the debris going into the main collector, it requires constant blow outs and filter emptying (which the HF didn’t). 3. If you hate changing the bags on the larger dust collectors like the HF, prepare to hate cleaning out the bottom barrel on this significantly more.

The plastic molded barrel deforms and warps and never makes a good seal/is constantly not seated properly (you’ll wrestle with this to get a tight fit). Definitely feels like this was made by someone who never had to use it, or by anyone who needed to clean it frequently.

4. For the price, I would expect a crank cleaner like some other cheaper models from Laguna and other manufacturers have. 5. Getting the Oneida dust sensor to make sure you don’t fill up your barrel and cause filter issues doesn’t help.

That deserves a separate review but you’d have more accuracy knowing your collector was full by shaking a magic 8 ball. Would I buy this again? No. Would I buy from Oneida again? Maybe. this is my 4th product from them and the only thing that’s been without flaws is the 55 gallon drum.

I think spending the extra money on a larger model that had a 55 gallon drum below it so the footprint was smaller would be ideal (like the 3000 systems) and might prevent some of my issues. It really does work well on every machine I have when its working properly, but it has a very high maintenance over head and the usability leaves a lot to be desired.

Customer service has been amazing, let me start with that but I cannot recommend this item. Parts were missing. Not a 20 ft cord, had to make my own extension. Had to finish drilling pilot holes as manufactured ones were insufficient.

Unfortunately the HEPA filter continues to fill with large bulk chip items versus the container intended. No, the container is not overfill, yes all areas are sealed, can feel a strong pull from hosing but it continues to fill the HEPA filter first versus acting as a cyclone and separate as intended.

On the first day, the bottom basin never filled once but I had to unclog the HEPA filter three times in one afternoon of use. Until I can get further information on how to correct this, I cannot recommend this item and my current feelings are towards asking for a refund/return and go with a different product.

This truly saddens me as their customer service has been incredibly kind and supportive. I hope I can update this review one day with positive updates if their service can help one more time.

I’ve owned 5hp and 3hp Gorillas, but needed something for my home shop with a low ceiling and small space. I could not have made a better choice than the Mini Gorilla. It arrived sooner than quoted, was very straightforward to assemble (read the italic hints and follow them), and really really sucks.

I am actually afraid to walk near it with my hat on unless there’s a hose attached. Yes – Plenty of CFM; Plenty of suction. My Shaper, Saw, Planer, and CNC will feed this well, and I’m sure it will suffice for your home shop too.

I’m allergic to most of the woods I like to build with, so the HEPA filter is a big upgrade for me. Consider buying an Oneida; you won’t be disappointed.

I have a one man wood shop, 20′ x 24′ with 9′ ceiling. I have the standard compliment of big power tools: 3hp cabinet saw, 15″ planer, 8″ jointer, 14″ bandsaw, 15″ drill press. Plus 16″ lathe, 20″ disk sander and 18″ drum sander.

Before I purchased the SuperCell I had been using a basic 1 1/2hp dual bagger dust collector, upgraded with a pleated filter on top and plastic trash bags for waste. It wouldn’t support ductwork so I’m accustomed to dragging a hose from machine to machine as needed.

I’ve been wanting to upgrade to a cyclone system for years but any system I purchased would have to fit into the footprint of the old dual bagger, and nothing did. I thought I was out of luck until I saw an ad for this new style dust collector from Oneida in Fine Woodworking.

Literature and online videos were a bit sparse, but what I saw and read about the machine definitely looked promising. And the footprint is tiny compared to other one man shop size cyclones. So I took and chance and ordered one with a 55 gallon waste drum.

Assembly was straightforward and not very difficult. I needed no assistance mounting this on the wall, including lifting the motor / filter assembly up over the cyclone body. I’m in good shape but am also 65 years old, 5’6″ and 145lbs.

It took me longer to reroute the 220v power line needed for the machine that it did to get this unit up and running. I knew the Supercell worked differently than a standard big impeller type collector but didn’t know what to expect when I first fired it up.

My immediate impression was it sounds like and appears to function like a high power shop vacuum cleaner. I mean a HIGH POWER shop vacuum. The motor powers up to full suction in one second. And it shuts down just as quickly.

It is not LOUD loud, but it is a bit louder than the 14″ impeller old style unit it replaced. The extra heavy duty flex hose is absolutely necessary as any lesser strength flex hose will compress end to end tying to handle this much suction.

And boy does this thing have suction! I was accustomed to leaving the DC run while moving the hose from one machine to another. The first time I did that with the Supercell the hose slipped out of my hands and glommed onto my posterior like it was lamprey eel.

Lesson learned. My cabinet saw always had a lot of sawdust in the bottom with a little trough down to the dust port. No longer. Planer, jointer, drum sander, no problem with this machine. And NO super-fine dust blowing out through the filter.

Now that I have a dust collector that can handle it I plan to install ductwork to all my machines. As I understand it the Supercell does not require a large diameter main trunk and I can instead use 4″ ducting for the entire system.

That should save a buck or two. Also I’ve been told it does not require “Y” connectors and can actually use “T” connectors. Unheard of in the world of wood shop dust collection. This unit is not inexpensive.

If you need to service more than one machine at a time this may not be for you. But the Supercell has been a very welcome addition to my one man shop. If you are looking for a very powerful DC that will support ductwork, has HEPA filtering and a very small footprint this may be the dream machine you’ve been looking for.

I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

Installed the Oneida Supercell in December and have been using it for a month now. Here were my criteria: (1) must fit in my small basement shop with a low ceiling, too low for most serious DCs or a tall cyclone; (2) must have superb fine-dust collection capability; (3) must perform well with 4� ductwork which I had already installed earlier.

The Supercell meets all three criteria. Regarding criterion 1, attached to the 14 gallon barrel, the Supercell easily fits under my low high ceiling and gives me enough headroom to remove the upper section for filter cleaning and changing.

Regarding criterion 2, fine-dust control is even better than I expected. Since the Supercell uses higher suction and lower air volume than conventional DCs, I haven’t focused on the usual airflow metrics but, instead, measure actual dust level using the Dylos DC1100 Pro Air Quality Monitor, which I run constantly.

I find that the PM2. 5 (fine particle) reading rarely changes when running my miter saw (12 feet away from the monitor), which is pretty amazing given that this is one of the hardest machines on which to control dust.

The PM2. 5 reading rarely goes up more than 300 points (the upper end of the “good” air quality range, according to Dylos) when running my table saw (8 feet away from the monitor), not more than 200 when running the jointer, and now more than 300 when running the thickness planer.

With my previous 1. 5 hp Shopfox DC, I would get PM2. 5 increases of 1000 or more when using the table saw. With the Supercell, the mild rise in dust control disappears quickly after a machine use if I keep the Supercell running.

Regarding the third criterion (duct size), the Supercell is doing well so far with excellent dust control and no clogging of ducts. Several drawbacks of the Supercell I’ve noted so far are high noise level at small dust ports, filter cleaning not as effective as I had hoped, and the incredibly strong suction will suck up nearby objects accidentally because of the strong suction.

While the Supercell itself is quieter than some other DCs, its strong suction creates a very loud noise in small-diameter dust ports, making it essential to wear ear protectors when running a miter saw or spindle sander or other machines with small dust ports (though if you want to reduce the suction and noise at small ports, you can just keep another gate or two open).

To clean the HEPA filter, the Supercell has a pulse cleaner which forces air in the reverse direction through the filter but it doesn’t clean as well as I had hoped. The Supercell has 10x the suction of a standard DC, which makes it an exceptional machine but you really have to watch out or it will suck up wood pieces, pencils, small tools, or other things nearby that would be untouched by the suction of the conventional DC.

However, these drawbacks are all minor in my view. On balance, I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

I installed the Supercell Mobile Dust Collector several months ago in my basement shop. The collector is in my garage to help with the noise. The main problem was trying to design and setup a vacuum hose system from my garage to the tools in my basement shop.

Not wanting to use expensive duct work only to change it, I used 4″ Shedule 40 PVC, which is a heavy duty PVC and rated for 200 psi. I have had no issues so far even with all vents closed. I have plenty of suction at all ports and even the furthest at about 50′ has plenty of suction.

The Supercell replaced several shop vacs and a 1 hp dust collector at various places in my basement shop. Problems: Few, but I have some suggestions. 1. Add a Jack to the electrical control box so that the antenna for the wireless on/off control can be extended.

I did not have a good signal between the garage and the basement shop. Thank goodness for utube hacks.

First off I am not a Jet fan. I buy the tools that I like. Nothing against Jet. I purchased a DC1100 about 12-15 years ago before the Vortex thing, that I wish I had. Other than the Vortex I bet the 2 DCs are the same.

Mine is connected to a 110v 20 amp circuit (not dedicated) and works great! My DC and my sander together will pop the breaker when the machine has a load. But I have 2 – 20 amp circuits, so I can move one tool as needed.

I got tired of having to turn it on/off so I purchased a remote for it. Over the last 30 years I have heard a few woodworks talk about bad motors and such from several manufactures (not just Jet) and a call to the manufacture took care of the problem.

So call early. Being a rather handy man and a woodworker I’m fine with replacing most part on any of my tools as long as it does not require very fine adjustments. I purchased all of my larger tools from local woodworking stores as I need them to stay in business.

They give me lots of advice on my projects and I know they have my back if something really goes bad with the tool I purchased from them. Most woodworking stores will allow you to return the tool within 30 days.

Try that with an online purchase. A real case for you. I purchased a bandsaw and a riser block. As I raised and lowered the upper guide the blade almost came out of the bearings. The manufacture could not figure it out over the phone.

They tried hard. After they send 2 different repair companies it was close but still not right. I called my local woodworking store and they took the tool back. I told them I want another of the same.

They agreed and said “they” would assemble the saw and add the riser block. After they tried 3 or 4 riser blocks they found the bar (part of the riser block kit) that holds the upper guides was bent! Problem solved! THANK YOU WOODCRAFT for having my back!!!!.

buyer beware!!!! The retainer strap that holds the filter bag to the collector, is of very poor design. It doesn’t hold the bag tight against the collector. When you turn on the dust collector the filter bag raises up causing a leak between the bag and collector.

Spewing saw dust all over the shop. Powermatic used a cheap retainer strap on a expensive dust collector. If they hadn’t been so cheap and put a retainer strap on their machine like Delta used on their dust collectors, they wouldn’t have a problem.

I brought this to there attention, but I guess they don’t care about what people have to say , as I they haven’t responded back to my email.

The Powermatic 1791078K Dust Collector is great. Great suction, easy to empty all within a very small footprint. We have ours attached to a large radial arm saw. It has no trouble collecting all the dust from our cuts.

We routinely cut 1X6s four at a time and 2X4s two at a time. This dust collector comes with a long range remote. We only use the remote to turn off the dust collector while someone else is using it. It’s a harmless prank that never gets old.

The only draw back to this machine is the horrible color. Everyone here agrees it is an awful choice. Clearly the person who chose the color has never had to change a baby’s diaper. I am happy recommend the Powermatic 1791078K Dust Collector.

I purchased this machine about 6 months ago knowing it would be overkill for may ‘quaint’ 13 x 23 shop, however I am very glad I did. This machine is perfect for my small shop and the price was right compared to similar spec machines.

I have a few issues with this machine that keep it from being a five star machine, but please understand that I am overall very pleased with my purchase, and would buy it again. The vacuum performance is everything I hoped for.

This machine easily keeps up with my 20 inch planer taking a heavy cut through my 6 inch duct work. There is so much suction that I can’t even open the bottom door to my band saw when this machine is on! Absolutely no complaints in this department, which is why I think this machine is such good value.

A+ The separation and filtration are less impressive but still adequate. It take about 6-7 barrels full of dust to fill the plastic bag below the filter mostly full. I hoped for more but I can deal with this.

Also, filtration is lacking a bit because I can see dust coming out of the filter when I use my the filter cleaning handle. I again can deal with this because by buying this machine you are opting out of the HEPA filter option.

I give the machine a B in this department. The instructions are good for laughing at, but thats about it. They are horrible in every way from telling which screw to use, to telling you to put things together that were done at the factory.

I also had a part left over that was not even mentioned in the parts list of the manual. After researching it, this piece was an air deflector for just above the barrel but this should have been in the manual obviously.

Laguna’s saving grace here was the videos they produced online that walk through the assembly, but even they are flawed. In all assembly took 5 hours, but I was able to complete the process without calling customer service.

C- Fit and finish is almost flawless. The one glaring flaw in the slaw is the on off button which works. most of the time. I have had a few instances where the machine would not turn off when I was pushing hard on the button.

I had to track down the remote which works perfectly to turn the machine off. Good remote, bad buttons. I think its fair to call this a safety hazard. A- for fit and finish. As previously stated, I am very happy overall with this machine, but I wanted to address every flaw in case this is a deal breaker for anyone.

For me, this machine is incredible value for money and I would happily purchase it again.

I am still assembling this beast, but I can report a few things at this stage. 1. Unloading was a challenge from my pickup. I had to break down the box and remove it piece by piece. I used my tractor’s front end loader to get the motor and frame unloaded.

This was not a simple operation. 2. There are a zillion parts. 3. This thing is big, heavy and well engineered. Everything lines up, the hardware is complete, and assembly is fairly straightforward. The instruction say to plan for five hours if assembly.

The fit and finish are first class. 4. I started assembly on it’s side rather than upside down as the instructions suggested. It took three grown men to set it upright. 5. You have to be patient: sometimes the manual is a little different from the unit I have, but the exploded view and parts list are helpful.

I will report again when I turn this thing on.

I’ve been using this cyclone for about 3 years, and it mostly works great, but a huge frustration is that the little remote fob to turn it on and off goes bad every several months. I’ve replaced it a few times at over $60 each time directly from Laguna.

The switches in the remote go bad, and I’ve talked to Laguna about it but that’s just how it is. It’s a shame that a tiny thing like that cost so much to replace and are such poor quality compared to the rest of the machine.

I got fed up and am looking at aftermarket remote systems to turn it on and off.

Great suction, very well designed sensible air filterLike the tool auto start feature, havent found any power tools I can’t use it with ( had to make simple adaptors for non Bosch tools. Couldn’t ask for much more.

Ein weiterer Nachteil ist, daß man den Sauger nicht regeln kann. Es gibt nur 1 und 0, also AN und AUS. Für viele Fälle würde aber auch 50% der Power reichen, und das kann man halt nicht einstellen. Also immer Voll-Gas.
