19 Best Sherwin Williams Ceiling Paint (2023 Updated)

I have been using Sherwin Williams as long as I can remember. My dad painted houses in the summers when off from teaching and I often tagged along an helped. I remember him always stressing the importance of buying good paint and how much easier it is to apply and how it will last.

When I 1st married 30+ yrs ago, my husband bought me paint and it was not Sherwin Williams. When helping him paint, I could tell the difference! When I have bought paint over the years I have always bought Sherwin Williams.

He is not one to usually do the painting, but when we redid a kids room into an office, he picked up a brush and roller and helped with the walls, ceiling and doors. He was sold! He could not believe how easily it applied and vented his frustration for having used poor quality paint previously when he repainted the 6 panel doors in our house! He knows why I have insisted on the best paint around now and I know he will never question where I get my paint again!.

We bought this paint yesterday when we weren’t able to find Zinsser ceiling paint that we needed to finish a project. The portions of our ceiling that we painted with Zinsser hid stains and coated drywall beautifully in a single coat.

Places where we used HGTV Sherwin Williams ceiling paint did not cover in two coats, even though it guaranteed one coat coverage and did not recommend primer use. You can clearly see joint compound seams and other sections of ceiling are brown and look unpainted despite the two coats we applied.

We are going to be looking for a new replacement for the Zinsser product that is not currently available.

We bought a new built home and the builder and crew did a horrible job on the ceilings! I never imagined myself painting it by hand. Our living room is also the entryway too and it was the worst spray area.

I couldn’t live with it. I went and bought your excellent ceiling paint and decided I would conquer all the ceilings on the main floor. I was truly amazed by the great coverage and ease of painting with your product! My husband was also shocked by my finished product.

I wouldn’t use anything else and I have recommend it often and not just the ceiling paint to friends, family and even people in the store.

I love this paint and primer, as it coats smoothly and covers in two coats. (I NEVER believe in one coat of anything). The color is bright white, my favorite for ceilings. Having used it in the past with no problems, I just bought 6 gallons for my new home, a 1961 rancher with low ceilings.

It will brighten every room! I always spot-primer with shellac or oil-base primer any dark, waxy, wood knots, or water stains, and highly recommend that you do too. It saves a lot of heartache, as spot touch-ups are never good on ceilings, and you won’t want to keep recoating the whole ceiling because some stain keeps popping through.

Used this paint for a smoker’s home to paint the popcorn ceilings. This is a great paint for the price, covered the yellowed ceiling in 2 coats and even though I covered up all carpet and furniture, I saw nothing but 2 little platters on my plastic after rolling the ceilings.

So, it covers up stains really well and works very clean. One down side to this one: DO NOT USE IN WET SPACES, because of the pink pigment in the paint that will start showing anytime the paint gets wet.

I will always use this paint for ceilings, excellent quality for the price.

This paint has poor coverage over acoustic ceilings. 1 gallon was not enough to paint the ceiling of a 10 foot X 11 foot bedroom. That is 110 square feet. Nothing like running out with 1 foot left to roll.

1 gallon was more than enough last time I painted it with a different brand. I tried to call the telephone number on the can and I got a recording saying they are sorry that having technical difficulties.

I was in the middle of a difficult move and have been very ill but I did open the samples today and I was absolutely compelled to tell you that as a person with an anaphylactic latex allergy, mast cell disease causing excessive reactions/chemical sensitivities that I can NOT get over how amazing your paint is.

I smelled absolutely nothing. I simply can not believe it. Not a single smell/reaction/issue. I’m not stable enough to paint quite yet, but the samples were both close enough and I will be ordering it.

This was our first experience using Ecos paint. It had a watery consistency that made it harder to use, and required three coats. The initial smell gave me a headache; and when we had to close the windows because of a neighbor burning rubbish, it gave me a terrible migraine headache.

However, we were very pleased with how fast it cured, with no odor the next day. Finished room looks beautiful. I would recommend this, but need someone else to do the painting who tolerates it when wet.

I was sent the wrong product. I ordered a shade of blue-green, but was sent white. I was planning to send it back, but the painter used it against my wishes and knowledge to lighten up the rest of the blue-green, which was several shades darker than it appeared in the color chart, which was also true of the yellow I had ordered.

I could not believe that the color chart was so off, and that no one had bothered to explain that anywhere that I could see.

Over the years, I have tried an array of brands of paint but my go to brand since I bought my new home has been Sherwin-Williams. This was, however, my first experience with the HGTV Home Infinity Paint & Primer line from Sherwin-Williams.

We recently remodeled our powder room and ultimately chose to go with the Repose Gray color from this line. I stirred the paint thoroughly in the can prior to using as the directions stated. I love that this is a paint and primmer in one so we got to skip the priming part and were able to get right to painting the walls! We went from a dark brown color to this light gray color and I was so amazed at the coverage! Even after one coat of paint, the coverage was impressive.

The paint goes on super easy and smooth. I couldn’t wait to see the end result so I was pleased with how fast the paint dried. The Repose Gray color is absolutely beautiful! It is a light gray color that to me is true gray with no undertones which is exactly what I wanted.

I love this color so much that I will be painting my living room in this same color! I have children so I like how easy it is to wipe off any dirt that they may get on my walls! I have gotten so many compliments on my new bathroom makeover and everyone loved the color! This color goes great with any décor and would look fabulous in any area of your home.

This will now be my go to choice of paint! If you are looking for high quality paint, I definitely recommend this one by Sherwin-Williams.

Last year, I was involved in a fire and my children and I were forced to move back into my childhood home. We were so grateful to God, we had someplace else, to go. We have two bedrooms, upstairs and two bonus rooms on each side.

The rooms were so “blah” and it left me with a cruddy and depressed feeling. I saw the different colors Sherwin Williams had to offer and went crazy! The bedroom I was staying in was white and the walls looked old and worn but a fresh splash of paint turned it around completely.

Now my kids have the beautifully-colored rooms while I moved downstairs and could use a fresh layer of paint on the walls. It’s so dark and depressing and I just had a baby and let’s just say it’s not very pleasant to look at.

This house is over 30 years old, I first moved in when I was 5, I’m now 34 so we have A LOT of things to be updated. It’s amazing what the perfect shade of paint can do for your mood! Especially since will be pursuing another work from him nursing job, like I previously had.

Our kitchen and bathrooms all have 30+ year old wall paper. :(.

We had our house built 2 years ago, we only painted the main living room/kitchen area with a different type of HGTVSherwin Williams paint. That paint held up so good that we made sure to stick with that brand! So now we are finally getting to paint the rest of the house.

We’re turned our boring dungeon into Sunshine by using Honeycomb & Peppery (if you feel inspired by these colors). Since it’s an entry room to the house we wanted it to feel larger and this did exactly that.

We have dogs, so the bottom section of the walls would have needed primer with most other paints. We only needed two coats of color and we were done! Overall great product, and will definitely be using it again for future projects! Can’t wait to use the other colors we got to paint the rest of the house!.

I recently went to the Sherwin Williams Store in Boone North Carolina and could not have been more pleased. My sister who is a retired professional house painter told me that the color options and quality of paint for this particular brand was outstanding.

She assured me that the many customers in gated communities she worked for definitely preferred the Infinity product to decrease the time between painting and mold problems. She also noted that the color did last longer.

I am so excited for such a trusted testimonial. The color selection is amazing. The palate I have to choose form is wonderful. The staff also encouraged the selections that I made. I am just waiting for the weather to break.

I will get my Hardy LP siding and a beautiful sage color that will compliment the mountain environment I live in. !!.

I redid my bathroom with this paint and it looks great! It really is a one coat paint. It is a lovely neutral color that can match any decor. Plenty of color choices to choose from. I did have some rough patches on my walls that I was not sure would look right without using a primer.

But this paint covered it easily and left a smooth finish behind. I am very pleased with this paint and feel like it will hold up well for many years. I have not tried to scrub anything like marks or dirt off the paint yet because it is still new but it is suppose to be stain resistant and hold up to scrubbing.

I hope so because one of the reasons I needed new painted walls was because of scrubbing them so much I scrubbed the paint off in places! So I will see in time, just how well it will hold up but I think I will be happy with the results!.

Stay away from this paint. Save your time, money, and energy and get a different brand. I’ve always used other brands for my painting needs and wish I never gave Sherwin-Williams a chance. I decided to try it for this painting project and purchased this paint in Snowbound.

I primed first, over a light neutral cream color, thinking coverage was going to be great and easy with it. After all, this paint advertises “Thoroughly and easily hides previous colors”. Complete opposite.

This paint is practically translucent. It took 3 gallons, with 2 coats and still could use a 3rd coat, to cover less than 400 square feet. According to Lowes, 1 gallon should cover 400 square feet… So disappointing and such a waste of money.

To complete the rest of my project I’m moving onto a different brand that’s actually going to provide coverage. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PAINT! Would never recommend this to anyone, ever.

The HGTV Ovation Plus interior paint and primer was much more than what I expected. Right from the first brush stroke I knew it would completely transform my room, making it look pretty, cozy and inviting.

With a wide variety of colors to choose from, you can rest assure you will find a perfect match for your needs. It does a great job covering previous colors and also has mold and mildew resistant capabilities.

This feature was so important for us since our home tends to be more humid than the average. The paint is the perfect consistency, not to runny and not to thick. It has great coverage and goes a long way.

It applies evenly and the brush and paint roller glides smoothly and doesn’t just get soaked up by it. The walls in our bedroom are texturized and even like that, one coat is all it took to cover old paint and imperfections, with the exception of a few spots I had to go over (painting is not one of my strengths) I was able to paint a medium size room (ceiling included) and still have a bit of the gallon can left.

Another big plus of this brand is that you don’t get stinky paint fumes when using it, plus it dries very quickly. I painted the room in the morning and by night time I had already moved all furniture back, decorated and slept in the room.

It is amazing what a good paint job can do, the transformation is truly incredible. I’m so pleased by the excellent quality of this product that I’ll be recommending it all around.

My wife and I have purchased a home and we are constantly in renovating mode. I wanted to update the kitchen and entryway but wasn’t looking to spend a ton of money. We decided a nice, clean coat of paint would be perfect.

I went to Lowe’s and purchased Ovation Plus Ultra White by Sherwin Williams. I only purchased one gallon thinking that would be enough for the two projects we had in mind. I was planning on painting the spaces in between our wood stairs and refresh paint around our windows in the kitchen.

After doing the stairs, I did realize I should have gotten another gallon. We do have two flights of stairs and I ended up doing two coats. When the first coat dried, I felt it covered but I could see a few spots so I went for the second coat.

Sherwin Williams paint always seems to be ‘user-friendly’ and glides on smoothly while applying. I also notice less streaking and a more even coverage than with other brands. I was able to pick up one more gallon and finish the windows and trim around the entryway.

Those were already white and just needed a refresh. The one coat was all it needed and when the paint dried the color looked wonderful. My family has many projects to come and it is nice to know we have a paint to rely on.

A note to other buyers: I would plan on two coats if you are covering a previous color. It is very convenient that the primer is already included but when I was finished I felt to completely cover I needed that second coat.

This is a durable paint and I know it will last.

I have always purchased Behr as I had good luck with it. Behr was my go-to paint. The last 2 cans have been garbage. I get as much paint on me as I do on what I am painting; the coverage is substandard and it takes forever to dry.

I am preparing my house for sale so I have many things to paint. I asked my realtor what to do and she told me to get Benjamin Moore paint. Not having the best results in the past I was hesitant, but I tried.

There is no comparison. Comparing Behr to Benjamin Moore is like comparing a Fiat 500 to a Ferrari. Guess what paint I will be used to pain the last 4 rooms of my house. I will give you 3 guesses and your first two do not count.

I bought this on a Saturday afternoon, color 2003-30 (BM). I know it was mixed because the girl opened the paint and put a drop on the lid. The color was perfect. I opened the can the next morning and the purple tint additive was on the top of the paint.

This required 5 minutes of mixing to get the right color again. I opened he can 2 days later, same problem. Aside from that, the paint goes on well but I always use primer on new wood or concrete. The last paint I bought in this color was 6 years ago from someone else and it lasted without much mixing until last month.

Excellent paint, great coverage. Only thing I’d warn people about is this is a tad hard to wash off with soap and water. Wear light weight plastic gloves. Can’t speak to durability yet, see how it looks next year.

I feel lied to and extremely frustrated with the carelessness of wording of this product label. Companies should not be allowed to say a guarantee that “may or may not” actually apply. ONE COAT GUARANTEE means that I should be getting my money back for the entire 5 gallon bucket I just bought.

We had a VERY LIGHT pink walk to cover up with the ultra white Sherwin Williams paint. I thoroughly prepped the walls and I even applied a white paint primer to the entire area…just for good measure….

and I am now STILL having to go back and apply a second coat of what was promised to be a one coat only paint. Do not pay the extra price difference for this paint based off of this guarantee. I legitimately saw no difference between this ultra white paint and an “off-brand” ultra white paint.

They both are requiring 3 total coats of both trimming the edges and rolling on.

Needs more than one coat. I usually don’t purchase Showcase paints, but thought that I would give it a try. I liked the One Coat Coverage guarantee and was hoping it would need one coat. I used a slightly darker yellow over a lighter yellow flat based paint.

I put on a heavy coat of paint with a 3/8” Purdy roller and put one coat. I had to put two coats when I cut in the corners and edges using a high quality brush to cover properly. I can see the difference in the corners and edges.

I’m so dissatisfied with the quality of coverage. I will need to purchase more paint to do a quality job. Not sure how to go about utilizing the guarantee, but I know I will not be purchasing this paint again.

Bought 4 gallons of this paint in 3 different colors to do my office at home. It went on very well. Used two coats on each wall which is expected of every paint no matter if it’s even Sherwin Williams emerald paint.

I bought the satin finish and I have already needed to wipe the wall and it did not smear the cured paint. I was impressed for the price as I have SW Emerald everywhere else in my house and that does a great job to at almost twice the price.

I recommend this paint so long as it’s a low traffic spot. I have no idea how it would last in a high traffic area. My kids and pets are not allowed in my office.

I selected a navy blue paint to be painted over light grey walls. I had high hopes for this one coat wonder as the people working the paint department at my local Lowes made this paint sound as good as liquid gold! I prepped by washing the walls with TSP solution and used the Valspar multi surface primer before applying this paint.

I have uploaded a picture of my results after applying one coat. I used a lambskin roller since the wall texturing was pretty rough and was really wanting to save time with the one coat application. Unfortunately, in my case, I chose a color that was just not happening in one coat, despite what was promised at Lowes.

It’s still a decent paint and the two coats looks lovely – the reason for the 2 stats is that I, like other reviewers was told this product works a certain way and bought it based on what I was told.

When that didn’t happen, naturally it’s a bit disappointing. If you’re more of a realist and go into it expecting to act like normal paint and you’re cool with painting the wall a few times then it’s a great paint!.

We had started a complete interior repaint with a paint that was rated #1 by a consumer magazine and while the eggshell finish wasn’t what I had expected it went on easy enough and all seemed fine. After it dried we noticed the coverage wasn’t what we had hoped for and went for a second coat.

That had us falling short in one of the rooms and the store that we bought it at was an hour’s round trip away and it was late so I took a chance and the 5 minute trip to Lowes. There the paint rep asked what a few questions and recommended the Showcase paint.

They color matched a gallon to the other brand’s swatch and I ran home and got to work. After doing two complete walls it was obvious that the finish was a little different but actually more of the true eggshell we were originally looking for.

The color was spot on and it took less paint for the area. All wins. When it came time to move onto the second floor it was back to Lowes for more Showcase. Sadly for the other paint, it’s the last time we make a decision based on a magazine rating.
