20 Best Shampoo For Clean Hair (2023 Updated)

I have struggled with my hair over the past year after putting highlights in it. My hair was falling out at a rapid pace leaving me very self conscious. I went searching and tried several shampoos and conditioners for my damaged hair.

I struggled to get a comb through the knots after using tons of different kinds. I stumbled across the Clean & Pure line and decided to give it a try. I’m hooked for life! I have been using it for about 4 months now (washing every other/every third day) and my hair has started growing in where I had thin patches and it’s grown in length! The smell is amazing, and I like the fact that both the shampoo and conditioner rinse out easily.

I am physically disabled and have had trouble washing out other shampoos and conditioners in the past. This lightweight formula is unlike any other I’ve tried. I am able to wash out and comb through EASILY! The Clean & Pure line is the best!.

I honestly use the shampoo and conditioner everyday. I bought a leave in conditioner- that also doesn’t have any silicones- and it’s all amazing. My hair has never been more thoroughly clean and moisturized.

I ran out of this one day and had to get a trim that morning. I used some cheap shampoo and conditioner that I had under my sink. My hairstylist was like UMMM I thought we said NO silicones! She could feel the slipperiness lol.

I have tried so many different clarifying shampoos over the years. I have fine, thin, long hi-lighted blonde hair. I use 2 different leave in products for strengthening/conditioning/heat protectant. My hair gets oily at the end of every day no matter what I use.

This shampoo makes my hair feel so much better! So clean, smells good and doesn’t tangle my hair like others do! I’ve purchased this one SO many times and will continue to do so! I would recommend this 1,000x’s! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼.

I’m about half way through the bottle and was using it once every 3-4 weeks. It’s a great clarifying shampoo but caused a ton of hair loss. After a 2 hour class I would look down to see my hair everywhere.

I kept trying different methods to prevent this but nothing worked. This happened every. single. time. My hair had always been thick and gone through a lot of cheap shampoos, but this stuff is something else.

I ignored it since it does the job but my hair is now thin/medium, it’s going in the trash.

I tried the shampoo and matching deep conditioner (with pea protein ~ smells like berries and cedar. ) NICE! It gently cleaned my hair, leaving it feel “light weight” after blow drying. It did not leave my hair feeling silky nor did it make my hair shine like other Hydrating combos have in the past.

I understand its a “natural” product. thats probably why. Overall the shampoo and deep conditioner worked well. *Because it contains protein – I would NOT use this every day! Too much Keratin damages your hair if used daily.

I switch up my shampoos weekly and I only wash my hair on average twice a week. ( In summer I towel dry my hair with 2 Turkish/ cotton towels and in winter – I only dry my hair 1/2 way with a cotton towel and a Dyson blow dryer.

) My main focus is Strong, Healthy HAIR! I would rate this a 4 out of 5, not bad! I also finished off with the matching PM natural leave in conditioning balm. I dont feel it did much in aiding my style or waves any longer.

I probably wouldn’t buy the balm again. (it doesnt offer shine or hold) Just sayin. – NAMASTE!.

I have bought this product twice now and continue to be impressed. I use it every 2-3 weeks to combat build-up from my regular, more moisturizing products. I have a normal to dry scalp and it works beautifully for me.

I also usually pair a thorough shampooing with this product with a nourishing hair mask for my ends. The key thing to understand is that for most scalps, this isn’t designed to be used on a daily basis.

Think of it as more like a scalp treatment. I also really appreciate the lemony smell and think the consistency is very nice!.

I am shocked at how much I love this shampoo. Nothing has been better then my Neutrogena clarifying shampoo. The Kristin ess one is amazing!! I mean if u like that squeaky clean feeling. But when my hair dried the silky smoothness of my hair was insanely amazing.

The shine of my hair was like I had a hair oil in my hair. My hair was super soft and shiny. This will be my new go to for clarifying my hair. The only thing I will say is the scent of this shampoo compared to her other scents is not that great.

I saw where someone said it smells like dog shampoo and I definitely got that scent as well. But faintly it does smell good but had like a faint dog shampoo scent to it. Nothing bad almost had a wood smell maybe? Bamboo type of scent.

not sure, but if it makes my hair this nice it’s a keeper.

This shampoo SAVED my hair. I’ve been using Native shampoo conditioner for about 6 months and I noticed my scalp start to have so much dandruff. It was REALLY bad. My hit also seemed really oily pretty quickly.

At this point, it felt like I just couldn’t get it out no matter how long I rinsed. There was just lots of build up. This shampoo literally saved my hair. After one wash, it felt significantly better and actually clean.

I paired it with the curl quench conditioner on my ends (even though I have straight hair) and use a little on my scalp and my hair looks and feels so much better. I hardly ever leave reviews but I feel like this shampoo definitely deserves some recognition.

This shampoo deserves a 10/10!! I struggle with really bad dandruff and sweat a lot which creates so much buildup. After using this my head feels squeaky clean and I can scratch it without getting any dirt or oil in my nails😖.

However, I only use this twice a week and I use a hydration mask. This is recommended on the bottle to prevent your hair drying out. I love the smell, the cute blush color of the bottle, and the ingredients! It’s not that foamy, so I do have to use a lot because of my thick hair.

I have used the whole bottle now and my hair looks and feels a lot more cleaner!.

I used the “Hair Reset” as part of a 3-piece set. I feel that the Shampoo review goes hand in hand with the conditioner review since I used the products in conjunction with each other. For reference, I wash my hair 2-3 times a week.

And, I have long, somewhat thick (as in a lot of it), fine hair. I also have my hair lightened (ombré/bayalgae) and it’s not all over lightened. I feel like the shampoo made my ends a tad drier and would need to be a 2-3x a month clarifying product.

I did occasionally use the shampoo back to back, when I was heavy handed with dry shampoo, mousse, and other hair products. I also tried to stretch out the length of time between hair-shampoos (my max was maybe 4 days, but 3 is generally my breaking point as I feel I have a dirty/unmanageable hair).

The scent is nice, it is a fruity apple scent (fragrance is the 7th ingredient on the label for sensitive folks). This conditioner is kind of thin, not quite watery, but definitely not a thick formula.

On most days, I needed a little bit more on the conditioning side as it’s been dry here this fall, and I potentially over used the shampoo as well. I would let this conditioner sit on my hair 1-3 minutes and occasionally, I would comb through the ends with a shower comb.

But most days I needed more so I would add an additional conditioner to my ends (remember though, I have very long hair). But if you don’t have dry ends, this may be just fine for you. It is free of; silicones, petrolatum, mineral oils, parabens, and dyes.

And, I do adore that Garnier is cruelty free. FYI Garnier is owned by L’Oreal and L’Oreal is not cruelty free. This specific product is labeled a vegan. Overall, if used on an occasional basis, I would recommend trying out this line.

It is available at Walmart and at a very affordable price point. The scalp scrub/shampoo/conditioner is good after 12 months of opening, so just be sure to use it within that time frame. If your ends are drier, you may want to have a thicker conditioner on hand (just in case).

I received this item complimentary from Influenster and Garnier in exchange for my honest opinion and review. I am a sucker for a good minted scent shampoo or hair care product so points and kuddos for this one as it is not intense but also not too subtle…it’s right there in the middle.

Gives off that amazing cooling sensation, so the claims on the bottle for peppermint and cooling are valid. The cooling sensation last quite a bit of time and I’m not mad at it!!! I have psoriasis and this product did not trigger any issues there and in fact I did notice less flaking.

Good consistency of suds…overall not bad product. Love that they a free of the bad things but didn’t see that it’s sulfate free. My hair can sometimes feel dried out from mints and tea tree products and this did not do that.

Now let’s talk visuals. The bottle gives off clean, mint, cool vibes and that correlates with the products claims so love that theme made there. Bottle size is pretty standard for these issues geared shampoos at 12 fl oz and the price point of around $6.

95 at most of your retailers is a steal comparatively so vs some other products with similar claims that are on the shelves. So if you like the review and these types of products are your jam, I would say try for yourself.

This is probably the first miss from Oribe for me. It isn’t bad per se. no hair loss or excess shedding, doesn’t dull my color, and it has the beautiful signature Oribe scent. That being said, I think it is miscategorized as a clarifying shampoo.

I don’t notice any difference in “cleanliness” when I use this vs. my regular oribe shampoos. Sadly, this formula is very drying, and I notice my roots get greasier faster after using it. I can usually go ~3 days between washes, with this my hair looks dirty the next day.

The foam is a fun concept and everyone’s hair type is different so just because it wasn’t a hit for me doesn’t mean it won’t work for you. just come prepared with a moisturizing conditioner or hair mask to make up for any potential dryness :).

This product does exactly what it claims. It deeply cleanses without making my hair feel dry. I used Gold Lust religiously and wash my hair 2-3 times/week. I find that I normally had to rinse and repeat twice with Gold Lust to remove my product buildup and get my hair really clean.

That is, before I started using this. This shampoo revives my hair on another level. It leaves my hair feeling so incredibly soft and light. The results are unlike anything I’ve seen before, with other single product I’ve used.

I never want to be without this!.

I typically double shampoo. First I’ll go in with a clarifying shampoo and then do a second wash with the Oribe shampoo for brilliance and shine (which I love). I’ve been doing this for years and have typically been able to go a full 7 days between washes with no issues.

When I started using this as my first wash, I noticed that my hair was getting oily after only 2 days or so. I stopped using this after a few weeks of experiencing that and swapped in the Ouai detox shampoo as my first wash.

My scalp went back to normal after about 2 weeks. My theory is that this product was too stripping for my scalp and causing it to overcompensate with more oil.

I was able to get a nice straight look with just a quick blow-dry & therefore was able to put away the hair straightener, saving my hair from added heat damage which was great. When I first started using this shampoo I was hoping it would be the solution to my oily hair & help me to extend my wash day frequency, but unfortunately, I found that I was still needing to wash my hair daily.

Thankfully this product seems to be gentle enough for daily use & despite my concerns about it containing SLS, I didn’t notice any increase in my hair fall. Overall, this shampoo is a great value option for the whole family & really does give you that salon feel.

I actually bought these duo gallons once or twice before!! But since I found out information pertaining to hair loss with this brand I probably would still be buying by the gallons!! No lie!! Butttttttt!!! A big BUT!!!!! I have been suffering from hair loss and thinning hair for the last 8-10 years and I’m really afraid to think that TRESEMME HAD ANYTHING TO DO ABOUT IT!!! It’s a shame!! This brand is amazing has amazing products. At first I was skeptical or using their hair products because most of the time lower priced products turn out to be bad for your hair. However even though this is a low price shampoo it performs like it’s high-end.

I have very thick hair and it’s difficult to wash. This shampoo is amazing it has a large amount or suds smells good and makes my hair less dry. I recommend this shampoo and using the conditoner treatment from tressame as well.

I used this Pantene Pro-V classic clean shampoo, along with the conditioner, for two weeks straight; and I have color treated hair that’s very dry and brittle. This truly brought my hair back to life! At first, I was a little surprised there was not alot of lather, when washing my hair.

For some reason, I think that lather means clean, which it does not. I noticed when rinsing my hair, it felt softer; yet very clean, and it did not have that squeaky feeling, which I used to think was a good thing; and I have recently learned that when your hair feels squeaky, it means all of the necessary oils have been stripped; just like when washing your face; we used to think that squeaky-clean was a good thing.

No it is not! I did not use any other products, when I was using this; and my hair was shiny, full of volume, and just absolutely beautiful! I also love the smell of this, and I got several compliments at the grocery store, and at my doctors, on how good my hair smelled.

Pantene has been a favorite Holy Grail of mine, for a long time, and they have improved their products even more. This shampoo will be in my shower, and used by me, every time I wash my hair. My 12 year old daughter loves it, as well.

So I got this from Influenster about a month ago and wanted to give it the best chance and review possible so I started using right after freshly dying my hair and here’s my honest impressions after about three weeks use.

Firstly I love the scent and how it lasts and lasts, it even made my pillow smell good! But the texture was a little thick and hard to spread through my hair so I definitely had to use a lot more than my usual brand to get a good lather going.

It seems be extra rich and moisturizing I guess you could say but to me it left my hair feeling oily and weighed down part way through the day, there was a lot of residue left behind and I have very healthy hair that’s also thick and prone to oiliness so I definitely didn’t like that and do not recommend this to people with hair like mine.

As far as the color protection I do see some fading on the top half of my hair where most of my greys are and that is definitely a lot faster than I’d see with my usual brand so there was obviously some color stripping.

All in all I’d give this shampoo a pass and definitely she’ll out a few more bucks for something better if you’re trying to preserve your just dyed otherwise healthy hair. For someone who’s just looking for maybe a deeply moisturizing economically priced shampoo this might be ok because it did make my hair feel soft and look shiny it was just too much at the end of the day.

i have very oily hair and try to only wash it 2-3 times a week. with other shampoos, i have to use so much dry shampoo because my hair just gets so oily after day 2 of not washing it. however, with this shampoo i don’t have that problem.

it deep cleans my hair so i only have to use dry shampoo the morning of the day i plan to wash my hair later that night. it leaves my hair feeling so fresh, soft, and light since it does such a good job cleansing.

it also smells great, kind of like a citrus smell! when i wash my hair i wash it twice and use a shampoo brush and a combo of that plus this shampoo is amazing!! overall i definitely recommend this product!.

I’ve been struggling to find a gentle shampoo that actually cleans my hair and then I found this! It may be clarifying if you have dry hair that doesn’t need daily washing, but my fine oily hair needs this daily.

This has a great amount of protein for me and the coconut oil helps prevent protein loss from daily washing. Using the matching conditioner is too much protein for me daily so I alternate it with a protein free conditioner.

The smell isn’t my favorite but it’s growing on me, sort of grapefruity and floral, but it doesn’t linger in my hair.

I used to break out in sores on my head after I shampooed using other shampoos. I discovered I was allergic to some of the ingredients including aloe. Then I found neutrogena anti-residue shampoo and have been using it for many years.

It’s perfect. It also smells great. I have issues with some scents and this doesn’t have that cloying perfumey smell. Now I see here that it’s been discontinued. Why? So now I’m back to reading the ingredient list on every shampoo before I buy it and hope that I find one before I waste too much money.

I really hope that the makers reconsider and bring it back. As I said, it’s perfectl.

MY LIFE IS CHANGED. Backstory: For the past couple years, my hair has undergone some unfortunate changes. It has been heavy, flat and oily, even though I had made no change in my hair routine. The hair at the nape of my neck was matted.

I felt like it was getting noticeably greasy, and I had lost all of my hair confidence. Flash forward to my recent hair appointment where my stylist suggested I try a clarifying shampoo a couple times a week.

She agreed my hair was a bit heavy and needed a reset. I immediately went to the drug store afterwards and picked up the Neutrogena Anti-Residue shampoo at random, which was fairly cheap ($8 CAN). I showered with it this morning, followed by a Cake brand conditioner, and WHAT A DIFFERENCE.

My hair is light, fluffy, bouncy, holding a curl/wave, and has no product build-up whatsoever. My hair is sitting nicely and did not need the usual hairspray at the roots for all the flyaways. My partner marveled at how soft it felt.

I feel like I just took five years of wear and tear off my hair. I’m only going to use this product a few times a month, so it will likely last a long time. My advice: if you have product build up and heaviness in your hair, BUY THIS SHAMPOO.

IMMEDIATELY.

Okay, I wanted to love this, I really did. I am a sucker for Oribe products. The scent is intoxicating. most of their stuff is to die for. But this one was just “alright”. Being a purple/toning shampoo, this should.

well, tone your blonde. It doesn’t do very well in that department at all. Which misses the whole point honestly, so I would just buy a different formula. I hope they focus on their pigment and improve, I’d definitely give it another shot if they revamped it!.

I have tried so many purple shampoos in my lifetime when I came across this brand. It is pricey, but based on the reviews I decided to give it a try. I had high expectations, but unfortunately it doesn’t live up to the hype.

It toned my blond hair like most purple shampoos I have tried. However it was not nearly as moisturizing as promised. The scent was nice, but the price is way too high for what the product actually delivers.

I won’t be repurchasing again.

I bought this a month ago after reading lots of reviews. I have very oily hair, which I try to wash only every few days. To get through the daily sweat from the gym I use a lot of dry shampoo to make myself presentable at work.

I had never managed to have that fresh salon clean even the day of washing. I tried so many things, completely blow drying my hair, washing it at night, washing it in the morning, not using dry shampoo – but by the afternoon the base of my roots were oily, heavy and my hair was generally lifeless.

I had read a little about product build up but never thought I was suffering as I was double washing every few days. When I was introduced to this shampoo by a lovely shop assistant – my whole world changed.

I never knew the limp flat hair I had was as a result of product build up. This shampoo has changed how my hair falls, feels and looks. My hair is fresh for 2 days prior to needing to wear a bun, I can stretch my wash out to 2 x weekly and use very limited dry shampoo.

If you have oily hair, use a lot of heat protectant or dry shampoo – do yourself a favour and try this shampoo. It may be the holy grail for you as it has been to me. I use it 2 x weekly max (generally alternate it with eleven volume shampoo every few days) so it doesn’t dry my roots – but who knew a shampoo would educate me about product build up I can’t see.

I’m sold & have sold many friends on it!.

My hair is left feeling beautifully clean and fresh ONLY if I use about a 2tbsp of shampoo over 2-3 applications. My hairdresser told me “if you are using more than a 10c piece you’re using too much” but my hair is left only half clean with oily/dirty patches if I do this.

Wouldn’t be as much of a problem if it wasn’t so expensive. In fairness if I do a thorough wash it lasts me 3 days compared to my usual 2 between washes. Not sure if I will buy again.

Works great on my 11yr old twin boys hair. Is great for getting all the dirt, sand, sweat. everything that active boys get in their hair. They don’t need much product. We wanted a good quality shampoo without spending too much money.

This was a perfect mix of price and quality product. Highly recommend.

– OK, I don’t want to be too exaggerative, but this double haircare routine (Shampoo + Conditioner) does really live up to its “detox” hype. This is absolutely a cleansing shampoo, and I’ll be using it the next time I dye my hair, as it gets rid of all the “gunk” wonderfully (note: do not use the conditioner after shampooing if you are going to dye your hair).

I have naturally very dry hair, to go with my unfortunate dry skin (thanks, eczema), so I don’t wash my hair as frequently as some others may do: usually about twice a week. This means that product builds up easily, weighing my hair down a lot by day three.

– I recommend using slightly less than your standard amount, since it foams and lathers up very well. It does contain Sodium Laurel Sulfoacetate (SLSA), but people needn’t be worried about this. Though it is also a surfactant like Sodium Laurel Sulfate, unlike SLS, it is naturally derived from coconut and palm oils.

Like Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, the SLSA molecule is too large to penetrate the skin, leading to far less irritation than sulfates. As for the conditioner, it’s OK to use your usual amount (*see separate conditioner review for more details).

 – I would suggest using a silicone shampoo brush (such as the one by Siliscrub), which I also use when applying conditioner – It has a lovely list of ingredients, including lavender, chamomile, rosemary, and eucalyptus extracts.

– It smells great (fruity, sweet, and bright), and my hair feels sooo light afterwards — I naturally have very frizzy hair, but I actually enjoy its “poofiness” after this hair routine, because it feels so natural.

Oil and build-up free, but without the dryness. – Regarding the ingredients, I’m not 100% sure if it actually contains apple cider vinegar; it says that it’s “made with apple cider vinegar” on the website, but all I can find in the ingredients is vinegar and apple listed separately (listed as “Vinegar/Acetum” and “Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract”).

Furthermore, the shampoo contains Cocamidopropyl betaine, which, in 2004, was given the “Allergen of the Year” award by the American Contact Dermatitis Society.  – For those that wash their hair frequently (every day or every two days), I’d recommend not using this shampoo every hair-wash time, just in case it is too drying — perhaps stick to once or twice a week.

– If you want to straighten, blow-dry, or otherwise heat-style your hair afterwards, I recommend using a product like “èprouvage Thermal Blow Dry Cream”. It works wonderfully as a serum, without weighing down the hair or leaving behind that greasy feeling.

First off, the scent of this shampoo is perfect! It’s fragrant while not being overpowering, and the apple scent isn’t that fake-candy-no-fruit-actually-smells-like-that smell! I also love how the ingredients are “clean” and it’s cruelty free! Yay! Along with the matching conditioner, I’m also able to air dry my hair and it’s silky, smooth, and SOFT! The downside, though, is that my scalp and long bangs look greasy after a few hours.

This is the problem I have with a TON of shampoos and conditioners, but not the brand I typically keep in my shower. So while there are some amazing things about this product, I can’t give it 5 stars because of the after-a-few-hours build-up.

I really wish it didn’t do that cause the softness of my hair is really outstanding!.

This shampoo definitely helped strip my hair of excess anything after just one use. My hair had an extremely clean feel and felt lighter than any other shampoo I’ve used before. I noticed the shampoo took away all the “good” moisture in my hair as well, which is okay after a night of tons of hair spray or product, but not on your normal hair routine nights.

I felt like I had more hair come out in my normal wash the day I used it and the day after, but this could have been because it was detoxing to the max! The positive is that this shampoo is useful in that when your hair has a lot of build up, this is an effective way to cleanse.

However, this is more of an as needed product for me and I wouldn’t recommend it to those with any type of sensitive hair. Also as an FYI, the conditioner did NOT work for me whatsoever in the second part of this duo.

Be prepared to use a serious detangler after your detox shampoo!.
