20 Best Shampoo And Conditioner For Oily Scalp (2023 Updated)

Tried the Degrease Shampoo because my hair is quite on the oily scale. Packaging is great and high quality bottle and tamper proof lid/foil. Upon first usage, I noticed a very floral, fruity, citrus-like scent.

It smells great and reminds me of sorbet or candy. After rinsing off, the scent is much more subtle which is great that it doesnt overpower you. The shampoo so far has been great. It doesn’t dry out your hair like other shampoos for oily hair and it keeps the hair soft and very clean.

Glad I got to try it out and I like it!.

I struggle with having an oily scalp and dry ends. Also being a busy mom, I like to try to go a couple days between shampooing to reduce having so many washings and also to save time. I have used Maple Holistics before with luck, and this Degrease shampoo has been amazing! It does a wonderful job of reducing having oily roots, but doesn’t make my hair feel crispy.

I think I also end up with product buildup, and this shampoo surprisingly leaves my hair looking shiny and smooth – so it manages to clarify my hair without stripping it. It is nice to find a good cleansing shampoo that leaves my hair feeling healthy as well!.

I am about to turn 40 and although in the past I have bought my shampoo and conditioner I’m the grocery store usually whatever is on sale I have noticed that the texture of my hair is becoming more dry, frizzy and prone to breakage with age.

So I have been on a hunt for a hair product (s) to get back the old texture of my hair and over the past 6months have spent over $150 in different hair products mostly shampoos and conditioners. I have noticed that I also rarely finish a bottle because after a month with no improvement I pass it along and try something else.

I realize how important reviews are as I have waisted a lot of money reading reviews to not get desired results so I hope this review can be helpful. I have been using the Biolage Ultra Hydra Source collection for the past month, and I have seen promising results.

I have less frizz and softer hair. The smell is pleasant and salon like, and the bottle is a decent size. For reference I have blond highlighted hair, very thick and wavy. The problem with my hair is the strands are dry, break easily and tended to frizz up.

After using the collection I enjoyed everything however my favorite was the deep treatment pack and if I could only afford to purchase one thing that would be the one I would invest in as I believe that would make a difference on it own.

I would recommend and would purchase the shampoo and conditioner again as I have enjoyed it and found it better then any of the other products I have tried the past year at least. I am keeping my current bottle after a month about 2/3rds remain and won’t be passing it on to anyone.

I have been using this Hydrasource line for almost a year now and it’s been awesome for my hair / hair type. I was happy to find that a travel size was available so that I wouldn’t need to lug the full size around.

No issues with leaking or getting product out of the bottle. This may also be good for someone if they’re wanting to try the product before committing to a full size. The only thing is that in the past I have gone through products after months of use and then noticed that it was drying out my hair, making it stringy, etc.

so the trial size may not be enough for you to make an actual decision on whether it works for you or not long term. Certain ingredients in products work wonders for certain hair properties so what’s beneficial and amazing on my hair may not work the same on yours.

I have medium to coarse hair and a full head of it. It’s long in length and growing up it was straight. As I got older and processed my hair, it began getting frizzy but still somewhat straight. After consistently using this (along with the deep conditioning mask, leave in conditioning lotion and my heat protectants) I can actually 90% air dry and use a medium / cool setting when blow drying to get it sleek straight without feeling the need to run a flat iron over it – it’s been very beneficial for my hair needs.

It hasn’t compromised the coloring done on my hair in fact, I think my results have started to last longer after my hair got accustomed to it, and my hair has a brilliant natural shine to it without anyone buildup.

During the Covid lockdown my last Aveda shampoo stopped being effective and I was unable to visit my stylist or dermatologist and seek advice. I took a chance on this shampoo and conditioner and since my situation had gotten very bad I purchased the scalp balancing oil treatment also.

I am exceedingly happy with the products! Read the instructions! Follow the instructions! First I started with the scalp oil. I don’t know if this necessarily for everyone but I found it gave instant relief and I was in a really bad spot with my scalp so I was glad to give it a go.

I love the lemongrass scent! I let that soak in for about an hour before jumping in the shower to shampoo. It says to shampoo rinse, repeat and then wait 1-2 minutes before washing out. The first time there was no lather, after rinsing and repeating the shampoo process a glorious lather worked up.

Neither time did I use a lot of shampoo, just a dime sized amount for my long hair. It has a mild willow bark or witch hazel type smell but that doesn’t offend me or last long. My scalp felt a great bit of relief during the washing process.

My hair was very clean albeit dry and nearly chalky feeling after the washing but I went ahead with conditioner. The conditioner is scalp balancing so it says start at your roots and work to your ends.

It is not my usual technique but I gave it a go. It was such a comforting intense sensation on my wrecked scalp, and it had a pleasant earthy Rosemary smell that reminds me of Aveda products. After the whole process my scalp is really improving.

It’s not itchy or irritated (which is sadly the effect of many other products I had hoped would help in the past). It feels very clean and not overly oily, despite the deeper conditioning of my scalp.

I can’t boast great volume, however my hair has a vibrant glossy shine. The smell after blow drying is subtle and pleasant but very understated. If you suffer from scalp issues and find you like natural fragrance and products definitely give this a try.

I struggle with oily hair and have used clarifying shampoos daily. The products I used would dry my hair out so I couldn’t live without a leave in conditioner. Since using both the shampoo and conditioner I no longer need to use a leave in.

I use this daily and my hair feels clean and healthy.

My daughter suffers from flaky,itchy scalp and oily roots on day 2 unwashed hair. She’s only 12yrs old. She’s had this issue for a year now. She doesn’t use styling products and has beautiful dark brown hair.

We’ve tried everything and giving everything we have tried a few mos(Rome wasn’t built in a day) for products and DIY remedies ample time. Nothing has worked. From natural clean ingredients products to scalp shampoo brushes,and even tried baby hair care products.

I thought maybe she wasn’t rinsing good enough so I then went back to washing and rinsing her hair. Still no luck. We have hard water and do have several water softeners attached to the house but our water is terrible in southeast region.

So I bought Malibu C hard water packets which really does draw out water minerals but didn’t work for itchy,flaky scalp,and oily roots so again onto Google research and stumbled across Headquarters hair care.

So I took the quiz with her hair info and the headquarters website recommended the balance system. I only bought the conditioner because I have found Not Your Mothers shampoo moonstone in black bottle with purple writing to really help with the oily roots but needed a conditioner to put the hydration and moisture back into scalp(I’m a curly girl so it’s all about balance) this Headquarter conditioner really worked BUT it’s only been one wash.

Time will tell but just one wash and she hasn’t been itching or flaking like she normally would just a few minutes after a wash,deep condition,or rinse out conditioner. My daughter and I noticed right away how good her hair smelled.

This morning I went to wake her up for school AND I walk into in her room and her entire room smelled like the headquarters conditioner. She showered the night before and towel tried her hair then went over with a blow dryer on low heat,medium speed so she wouldn’t go to bed with completely wet hair.

I then woke her up for school and once she was awake for a minute or 2 she told me she had a headache. Her hair and scalp looks amazing though! I made her breakfast,gave her a bottled water then gave her some ibuprofen.

Whatever room she went into this morning all we smelled was her beautiful scented hair!! She only used 2 dime size amounts. One dime size down half her hair and another dime size down the other half.

She rinsed really well too. So well no conditioner slip left over. Due to the oily roots she rinses well because we have had issues in the past with conditioners being too heavy. So those with fragrance sensitivity may want to steer clear until Headquarters makes unscented or lightly scented products line.

Although I had my son use the headquarters conditioner also. He’s 14 with flaky,itchy scalp but not the oil problem and it worked for him BUT him having shorter hair and only using a pea size amount of conditioner all over his scalp and roots the scent didn’t linger whatsoever.

So with Headquarters maybe my daughter only needs one dime size amount for both sections.

The HQ cleansing shampoo for oily roots and scalps is a great shampoo as it does not have harsh chemicals. The harsh chemicals that are not in this shampoo is: sulfates, drying alcohols, silicones or dyes.

I was impressed the first day I used this shampoo. My hair did not feel greasy. After days of using it I started to notice that my hair was greasy within 12 hours of using the shampoo. My hair usually gets greasy within 6 hours when not using HQ.

That is my only con about the shampoo that my hair would still be oily after many hours of usage. I still think as for someone who gets oily roots this shampoo has helped my hair stay less oily throughout a work shift.

This shampoo has many pros. It does not have harsh chemicals. It is safe for color-treated hair. It has a great scent. It is not overpowering it is perfect. Also you are able to use this shampoo on an everyday basis or whenever you wash your hair.

I have been suffering from dry dandruff for months and years. After having tried several products, organic and not so organic, with or without sulfates, this one works! Although it contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate (very aggressive and chemical), this one soothes and eliminates 97% of my dandruff.

I used in complement the serum of the same brand sold here (Rebalancing serum). Visible results after 3 uses (shampoos spaced of 2-3 days). I recommend using it once a week or every other week. Otherwise it will damage your scalp.

Alternate with a shampoo without SLS.

This kind of shampoo you need if you use a lot of silicones in your hair care, which I do, if you have fine hair and it’s really easy to weight them down or you often go swimming in the swimming pool, or if you use styling products often.

All of that tends to stay in your hair and make your hair look greasy, dry and can damage your hair. I like this one because you can buy a big tub or a small one, more often they make only 1l bottles, but with this one, you can buy 200ml too.

You only need a tiny bit to use all over your hair, gives a lot of foam. It doesn’t leave hair super dry, but your hair will be a bit more fluffy than usual, but it will go away after (you’re supposed to use it only like once a month).

My hair feels so much better after I started using it! I really like it and would buy again!.

Was put onto this by my hair stylist. Since coming back from Europe I’ve never been able to find ANYTHING decent to use for my oily scalp. THIS (sans conditioning) was the best advice I have been given for my hair.

I alternate between this and the Renewing shampoo and I can get away with 2 washs per week in the cooler months and 3 washes in the hottter.

I have been having an awful time lately with my oily roots – to the point that even after washing, my hair still looked greasy! I used this & I am pleased to say that my hair looks great! I don’t care for the scent but I’ve never noticed a shampoo scent lingering in my hair anyway, so it’s not a big deal.

I am still on the hunt for a decent conditioner but I am thrilled to finally have clean looking hair & not have to wear it up or drown it in dry shampoo after having just washed it.

I’ve only used this for maybe 4 times since I wash my hair every other day, but it’s honestly doing wonders for hair already. My hair doesn’t feel super oily on it’s second day and I can probably extend my washes for more days if needed.

It is a bit too strong for me on its own so I like to mix it with water for a 1:1 ratio. Also follow the instructions; leave it on for a few minutes!.

Can’t read the ingredients but it’s been great for my hair! I was losing hair and now it’s stopped. It always leaves my hair soft and shiny. It was delivered really fast too.

Fragrance smells and feels soft after wash

I love this conditioner! My hair is very oily at the root and dry at the length so I use ‘Balance’ and this conditioner for the length. I feel like gives shine and softness. Highly recommended.

This foundation might be at the top end of the scale price wise, but it does what it says and stays in place a lot longer than other brands I have tried. Best applied with a good quality brush,you need to use very little, so it does last a long time.

This site is offering it about 5 cheaper than Estee Lauder counters, so I would use this site to re order. It arrived within the estimated time and was well packaged.

I got this shampoo from influenster in exchange of my honest reviews. I love trying new shampoo and conditioner products and seeing what each one has to offer. I hadn’t heard of any with hyaluronic acid before and was eager to see if it stood out above other shampoos I’ve tried.

The bottle of this shampoo is a neat square shape which is different from other shampoos out there, but it didn’t fit on my shower ledge where I put all the rest of my products. I had to put it on the edge of the tub which I don’t prefer.

It is easy to squeeze out and comes out a little thick. From the picture I thought it would be blue which it isn’t, only the bottle is blue. That’s not a big deal, I guess it was the inner child in me that hoped it would be a cool color.

That’s a plus for anyone who doesn’t want unnatural dyes in their product anyways. When I put this on my hair it took a while to lather and I actually went back for a little more product to get it worked in all over my head.

It’s not too strong though and it doesn’t last after being rinsed out. It didn’t feel particularly moisturizing as I lathered it over my scalp. After the shower my hair felt clean and lightweight. Whatever drawbacks the shampoo seemed to have in the shower evened out with it being a perfectly acceptable shampoo out of the shower.

My hair wasn’t any more greasy the next day.

I’ve been having problems with moderate dandruff recently so I was excited to give this product a try. It seems to have helped with the drandruff… but by making my scalp peel off in sheets instead of small flakes… Either way, my scalp still itches.

And unfortunately now I have a visible line in my hair where people can see my head peeling. It looks almost like a sunburn peel without the redness. It’s honestly disgusting looking. I was hoping it would finish peeling and then stop, revealing new fresh hydrated scalp skin.

Unfortunately it starts peeling again after a few weeks. The only reason I gave this product 2 stars is because it did clean my hair like a shampoo should. I usually give my friends the products I don’t like, but this is going into the trash instead.

Also, the bottle design is horrible. Almost impossible to squeeze out the product with one hand since it’s so thick.

I tried this shampoo since the clarifying shampoo wasn’t at my store (I guess its discontinued???) and I will be returning it. I noticed immediately when rinsing that my scalp did not feel clarified or that oiliness had been removed.

I checked the ingredients list and BAM, there it was: amodimethicone, aka silicones that belong no where near a shampoo for oily hair!!! My scalp was not cleaned, and the next day my hair was so oily it looked like I hadn’t washed my hair for 5 days.

To add salt to the wound, a 6th grader commented on how oily my hair was. I agree with a previous reviewer that non-sulphate alternatives in a clarifying shampoo is an oxymoron and don’t belong in a clarifying shampoo.

Silicones + non-sulphate alternatives = nightmare for really oily scalps. I think this product is mis-marketed and would be a good shampoo for dry scalps. Honestly don’t know how there’s so many reviews saying their hair is clean.

But I am very disappointed and will be returning.

I bought this shampoo a while back now for the first time. It is such an effective product. I’ve struggled with dandruff since I was a kid and this by far has to be my favourite. It not only controls my dandruff and is such a good product but it smells so good! It doesn’t have that typical chemist dandruff shampoo which make it’s so much better! All I have to say is that money spent well and I recommend this product to anyone that struggles with dandruff!.

I have tried sooo many dandruff control shampoos and nothing has worked so far, until now! I saw an immediate difference from the first wash. The formula is great especially as it lathers well before scrubbing.

This shampoo is a game changer! It is the only shampoo I have found that works in my hair. I have a very oily scalp but this shampoo leaves my hair looking not oily and I can now wash my hair second day instead of everyday.

I have used this product for many years and my hairdresser (in England) used to obtain it for me. A few years ago he said he was unable to get any more. Since then I have searched for the Equaliser all over, and have tried many other products trying to achieve the same effect but have failed.

A few weeks ago I saw the equaliser for sale on eBay, supplied from America and ordered it. i was so pleased when it arrived and found it is just as good as I remember. I have very soft fly away hair and the equaliser keeps it in control and stops it from going frizzy.

The shampoo smells good. It is a conditioning shampoo so it makes my hair feel soft and very clean. Lathers great. The conditioner smells nice too and detangles my hair very well. I only need to use a little bit of each product and the price is great.

The duo has an excellent price on ebay and it is a great value.

I have never fell in love with a shampoo so quickly. My hair is thin and frizzy and after air drying my hair my curls were more intact than ever. Please bring this shampoo back, I will not use another shampoo ever.

Worsened scalp, caused hair fallI write this review right after seeing out of my shower about a month into using this shampoo… as I walk over to throw this away. Awful. Over the last 2 years, I’ve reduced my hair fall tremendously and this shampoo had my drain FULL OF LOCKS.

I haven’t changed anything else in my routine and noticed my scalp feeling heavy a few hours after showering. This shampoo falls short on everything it promises as my irritated scalp got worse and new problems such as hair fall occurred.

It was my first time trying this brand after the hype and I’m so disappointed. Also beware of this company- I bought directly from the website and tried posting this review and they rejected it on no basis, without letting me discuss with customer representative.

Kay, so I began to see this product listed everywhere and finally tried it on my long, oil-factory hair- while I wasn’t immediately blown away, it really made a difference a few weeks in! I can now go three to four days without washing with some help from dry shampoo, and my hair looks and feels healthier and softer.

The ends especially make a difference, they feel hydrated rather than stripped and frizzed out. So it doesn’t kill the grease, I don’t know if any shampoo can. But it’s the shampoo you want if you’re trying to ‘train’ your hair to go longer without getting crazy oily.

I used it with the Kérastase Lait Vital conditioner, which is super lightweight. The true test will be the greasy city summer though. Pray for me.

I have adored Doori brand hair products ever since I found them at TJ Maxx a few years ago. Sadly, they are no longer in stock. Everything they make works great with my hair type, which is thin, pin straight, and somewhat oily.

Their products all make my hair “fluffy” unlike anything else I have tried. I didn’t hate this shampoo and I still feel like it is an excellent shampoo, so I gave it five stars. I just feel like the Doori acid shampoo I used to use worked better for me.

This is a concentrated-feeling sap-colored shampoo with a minty-herbal smell. It doesn’t control oil as well for me as the acid shampoo, which was pink and shimmery and smelled nicer. It is an economical purchase because the product is very concentrated compared with U.

S. drugstore shampoos. It suds very well.

I have oily hair and scalp not to mention an itchy scalp at times. I decided to give Maple Holistics natural shampoo for oily Hair and oily scalp. I like the way it works. It helps to reduce the oiliness in my hair and scalp.

To me the smell is not the greatest but after applying conditioner I don’t notice it.

For years (I am almost 83) I have had oily hair. Regular shampoo didn’t seem to help. I saw an advertisement for the “Degreaser” product and gave it a try. I am now on my second bottle and would highly recommend it! After shampooing, this product leaves your hair (and yes, I still have lots of hair) “squeaky” clean.

This shampoo is great! You can notice it’s working after the first usage. You don’t have to use a large quantity to get a proper wash. I always put some shampoo and water in a glass that has cover and mix it well before I apply it on my hair.

By the third time you use it, the dandruff is all most completely gone. I strongly recommend it.

For years I have suffered with dry, flaky scalp that itches. I always thought it was dandruff, but the medicated shampoos for that never worked, so I just dealt with it. My dermatologist had mentioned that it was dry scalp, but I never looked into it because it wasn’t that bad, just annoying more than anything, so I was thrilled to find out about Neopur.

I’ve been using the Neopur shampoo for dry, flaky scalp for about 2 weeks, only taking a 2 day break to see if I could tell a difference, and I did. First time using the shampoo, I loved the creamy, lotion like, texture.

It costed my hair great, although I do feel that I have to use a little more product than my other shampoos, but not much. It has a wonderful earthy, botanical scent that isn’t overpowering. The bottle recommends using for 2-5 minutes and I keep it on closer to the 5 minute mark.

I use my normal conditioner afterwards, but with how soft it makes my hair, I am tempted to try it without conditioner. With the first ruse, I noticed less itchiness, and within the third use, I noticed my hair was much softer, I didn’t have any noticeable flakes, and my head rarely itches, and if it did, flakes didn’t show up after itching.

My hair is color treated, and it’s been feeling pretty damaged, I was planning on getting a deep condition treatment, but I don’t feel the need to do that. My hair feels so much better from using this product for the short time I have been using it.

When I said I took a 2 day break, I definitely could tell. My head didn’t really itch, and I didn’t see immediate flakes return from that, but my hair texture wasn’t as soft and smooth. Other than how amazing my hair feels, I love that this shampoo is free of silicones, sulfates, and parabens.

I definitely recommend this for anyone with dry, flaky scalp. It’s amazing how quickly it worked for me and I’m so impressed with how much healthier my hair is overall. I feel like I could use this shampoo every other shower now that I’ve been using it a couple of weeks.

I will definitely continue using this shampoo, and will be replenishing mine very soon.
