The Shabu Shabu pot is typically not used for Western style meals but is made specifically for a Chinese/Japanese type of hot pot more like a fondue setting where everyone dips their choice of food into the boiling broth in the main Shabu pot to cook it.

If you are purchasing a Shabu Shabu pot, you should read up on it’s main purpose so that you are not disappointed with your purchase. Shabu shabu is a Japanese hot pot meal imported from China. Its name literally translates to “swish swish,” the noise that the meat makes as it is swirled through hot broth with chopsticks.

Ingredients for Shabu Shabu First, the heating element and the main pot filled with broth is brought to the table and set up to heat. This is the special pot for broth that the diners use to cook their shabu shabu.

The primary ingredient is thinly sliced meat, usually beef or pork and sometimes chicken, which is brought to the table raw for the diners to cook themselves in the pot. This is just like having a pot of heated fondue and having cubes of bread or vegetables that the diners place into the heated cheese using fondue forks.

Additionally, tofu and vegetables, such as Chinese cabbage, lotus root, and enokitake mushrooms are provided to cook in the broth. The more popular Shabu pots have a divided main pot so that the host can make two different broths, one more spicy than the other for the diners to dip their vegetable and meat in.

Additionally dipping sauces are provided, which are traditionally a goma (sesame seed) sauce and a ponzu dipping sauce. Sometimes rice is provided for eating, although, there is usually a choice between rice and noodles with mochi.

At the end of the meal, the broth is combined into a delicious soup with either leftover rice or the noodles and mochi. Eating Shabu Shabu The technique for eating shabu shabu is fairly simple. The meat is sliced so thin that it only requires seconds of swishing in the pot.

Japanese people will lift the meat off the platter with the backs of their chopsticks, swish it a few times in the hot broth until it turns brown, and then dip it into one or the other sauce, lifting it out of the sauce with the normal eating side of the chopsticks.

This keeps germs out of the hotpot and allows everyone to cook with the same pot. The vegetables are sometimes dropped into the pot depending on how long they should cook, but leaving the tofu in the pot too long will result in it crumbling into a squishy pile.

Often, a strainer is also provided to strain fat and vegetable bits from the broth as the meal is eaten. Many shabu shabu restaurants offer an option for endless plates of meat, so often, Japanese will eat two or three plates of meat before they end the meal.

After the meat is consumed, the broth is strained and poured into a cup with udon noodles and one piece of mochi and consumed as a refreshing finish to the meal. For an extra special dinner, sometimes shabu shabu is combined as part of a kaiseki, or traditional seasonal meal served in courses, with the shabu shabu being the main course of the meal.

I doubt that you will find a cookbook for this product as Asians know how to use it without referencing a cookbook.

I have used this multi-cooker as a hot pot at least several times per week. Liquid will come to a rapid boil after at least five minutes on setting three but will continue simmering on setting one (turn to setting one right after boiling starts to prevent bubbling over through the lid).

The three-quart capacity is great for soups, stews, etc. Cleanup is no problem, but I don’t believe the stainless steel is 18-10. STILL, it’s stainless steel with no chemical nonstick properties and thus healthy cooking.

After a few washings, I apply a small dab of extra virgin olive oil for the integrity of the stainless steel finish. I have not used this appliance for shabu-shabu or for the grill yet, but I anticipate that SPT will not disappoint.

I have a few enamel cast iron pots, including a Le Creuset, so I’m no stranger to enameled cast iron pots and this one is definitely a keeper. Go easy on the high heat and this will fulfill all of your expectations.

Made a spicy hot pot and had a none spicy side with zero mix. Stayed hot and nothing stuck to the bottom. Easy to clean and will be using it many times from here on out. A group of about 6 people can share this pot during a gathering.

The pot itself is solid and I had zero issues with it. The lid however. Is a different story. The dye they used on the lid is not steadfast and I can’t confirm if it’s safe either. The wood is also ruff around some of the edges.

I used a sanding sponge to smooth it all out and the sponge got all gunked up with residue. Ew. Then I coated the wooden lid in mineral oil and wiped it down until it stopped leaching brown residue. Still ew.

Would I use the lid straight out of the box? No. After sanding it, removing some of the residue, treating the wood with mineral oil and removing more residue, would I use the lid then? Yes. I would highly recommend treating the lid before using it just to be on the safe side.

Once I did, the lid was wonderful and it looks absolutely gorgeous on the pot. It also kept the contents from sloshing out when it was in the car, so the lid definitely did it’s job. Also, definitely use only wooden or plastic utensils in the pot.

It can probably withstand metal utensils, the enamel feels pretty solid, but why risk it. Would I buy this pot again? Yes. It’s absolutely beautiful and definitely stepped up our hot pot night. I would recommend it!.

I was worried about other split hot pot pots because they weld the split in place and that’s a potential failure point which would cause the 2 broths to mix and the weld itself typically isn’t smooth which may make it difficult to fully clean.

These aren’t things that I have to worry about with this pot because it’s enameled cast iron and the split is seamless just like the side of any pot. This pot is pretty heavy but that’s to be expected since it’s a pretty large cast iron pot.

The enamel was slightly stained red on the side where we used a spicy broth but that doesn’t bother me. The wood lid has rough edges and was splintering a little out of the box. I only use the lid to cover the pot in storage to prevent dust from getting in it since I store it in the garage so I don’t mind.

We used this with a portable induction cooktop and it worked but there was a small issue. I’m not sure if the problem is with the induction stove or the pot but one side would boil while the other was barely simmering.

The pot is beautiful and great so far. Heavy as would be expected for a cast iron put. No leakage from one side to the other. The lid on the other hand is flimsy and light. Even worse is that the stain appears to be rubbing off just after I initially cleaned it prior to its first use.

Needless to say, I won’t be using this lid. Using a lid from another that I own.

The hot pot is excellent for large family gatherings, cooks up the food very nicely and leave in the side pocket to keep warm in the broth. Very nice hotpot for the price. Very fast and quick shipping.

We already have a Zojirushi rice cooker and bread maker, and this Zojirushi-branded electric skillet did not disappoint. My favorite feature is the removable pot. it makes clean-up a breeze without having to worry about getting the electronic parts wet (or soapy).

Safety-wise, the removeable electric cord is magnetically attached. We already had an instance where someone tripped on the cord, and it harmlessly detached without the unit being dragged off the table or the person falling down.

The skillet heats water up quickly and is simple to operate with an analog slider. It’s also large enough for our family of five to enjoy hot pot dinners. I know for an electric skillet, this is on the pricier side, but if you can find it on sale (like I did), it’s a good investment if you enjoy doing hot pots at home.

I’ve had this for about 3 years. I purchased it when I moved out for the first time and wanted to do hot pot at home. I didn’t feel safe using the portable gas stove in our apartment so I looked into the electric ones.

I have used it countless times because of my obsession with eating hot pot and wow… it’s still as good as ever. Highly recommend this product or any Zojirushi product because of its quality and durability.

I purchased this product about 3. 5 months ago and have used it for making hot pot and teppanyaki. It heats up quick, hold temp. well, and is simple to clean up. I really like the magnetic electrical cord feature incase it accidentally gets pulled on.

I do wish it was a bit deeper, but that is my only complaint.

I love this electric pot. It gets hot enough to sear meat and low enough to simmer. In my opinion it does an excellent job. And it’s cute. One suggestion that may have warranted a half star if I could have given 4 1/2 stars, that the temperature setting is not on the unit, just 0 – 3.

That is not a problem for me just a mention for this review.

This cooker has worked well for making macaroni & cheese, but I burnt rice the first time I tried. There is not a recipe book with it, nor could I find recipe’s on the manufacturer’s website. I am sure I’ll find recipes on the internet, but not sure how reliable those will be.

Still, it seems like it will be a versatile cooker/steamer for the price – so far am satisfied with the value and tempurature range available.

We like this Hot Pot, but would like something bigger. It is good for 3-4 people. I wish it was deeper and the pot was larger.

We are in love with this Hot Pot! We have Hot Pot every other Thursday. I was using a ceramic hot plate and a regular pot but we had to only pick one broth each time. Our younger daughter cannot tolerate hot food yet so we never had the traditional spicy broth.

Now I can have a savory broth and a traditional spicy broth. The coating on the pot makes it super easy to clean. It is easy to store and just the right size for a family of 4. I would be worried if you had to feed more than 4 you’d likely need at least two but at the price this is, it would be worth it to have another.

Oh don’t judge the size of this thing, the power of this pot is amazing. It heat up fast and will come to a crazy high boil. It has temperature settings up to 450 degrees but you shouldn’t need to go that high.

This was a great purchase and the memories my family makes every other Thursday will be priceless thanks to this purchase.

Bought 2 units, ended up returning both after 1 use due to dissatisfaction Cons: – cord too short: need a 6’+ grounded (outdoor) extension cord, tried to use a surge protector but shorted that out with 2 units plugged in – pot heating element left a scorched mark on the pot even though it was never turned on high (450 degrees) – the curvy divider design made cleaning impossible especially on the side where the angle is less than 30 degrees – it’s shallow so you cannot put a lot of food in it at once without having broth spill over the other side, another 2” deeper would have made a big difference Pro: – heats up quick – set temp from warm-200-450 degrees at highest, will turn off heat when temp reach & restart when need to get hot – has lid & plastic casing to protect from accidental touching when it’s hot – electrical plug to the pot looks standard to other electrical appliances like griddle where wires are protected & easy to dry if spill or wet from cleaning.

Using the same pot size, take out the divider, add a grill in middle, can now do K-bbq.

We absolutely love this electric hot pot! It’s great for parties where you know you’ll need a mild broth to go with your default spicy one! 😉 We’ve only used it a handful of times, but so far it has been easy to use and gets up to heat quickly.

This the first Dash product that I had purchased. Originally I just bought it to do ramen noodles. However i later learned that I could boil almost anything. I have boiled potatoes, carrots, corn, chicken, spagetti etc.

I have not been very successful with the rice, however I think that is just me, I have always struggled cooking rice lol I will be using the hot pot to keep cheese warm and chocolate for strawberries.

The possibilities are endless. Cleaning is easy however I have struggled when things get burned on the middle part of the appliance. However it is not a deal breaker for me. I really think this product is amazing!.

This pot has an auto turn off when it reaches boiling. It stays off for a few minutes, commences again on its own, then shuts off shortly after and continues doing this until you turn it off. If you want to boil eggs, it’s going to take a long time.

I then tried frying an egg on the burner. The burner has a rubber ring around it which disintegrated from the heat of cooking the egg. After ten washes, rubber would still disintegrate into water I would boil for tea.

I had to throw it out.

I really like this little hot pot; love its temp control! If you want things to cook/boil quickly, it will do so VERY quickly! During the summer time, I don’t want extra heat in my home, so quite often I use this portable cooker in my screen room.

If you are needing a simple, and really affordable hot water kettle for making tea, or anything else that you might need hot water for, the Sunbeam/Rival hot pot express is a great option. I have had a couple of these over the years, and they are all wonderful and easy to use.

I started a BBB account online just for the purpose of writing this review. I’ve been using the Rival hot pot twice a day for about a week now and it hasn’t broken! I make sure not to boil my water at too high a temperature.

More importantly though, I just found out that if I keep water in the hot pot, while it’s turned OFF but STILL PLUGGED, the hot pot automatically reheats the water every few minutes for a while. Apparently, it has some mechanism to detect and warm leftover water.

Leave water in there long enough though, and it WILL start to evaporate, so be careful. Still an awesome perk to this product, since sometimes I don’t want to drink my hot beverage right away!.

I bought this hot pot to take with me on a trip to Hershey, PA. I absolutely fell in love with it! Upon my return, instead of packing it away to take with me on my next trip, this hot pot has found a permanent home on my counter.

I am a huge tea drinker and sometimes forget to turn the kettle off on my stove. Fortunately, this will never have this issue again since there is an automatic shut-off feature. I would highly recommend this item.

When i pulled it out of the box, i was concerned because the base seemed so lightweight; after much use, all concerns are resolved. This is so Wonderful! It heats as fast if not faster than the microwave.

I love that it has automatic shut off. I leave water in it all the time and is my go-to water source. Great for tea drinkers. I boils – and I mean boils – water in 2 minutes flat. So glad i got it.

This is a superb stainless steel kettle and exactly what I was looking for in a hot pot. I had seen remarks that the lid didn’t fit right, but those postings are quite old. So, I called the company, and they assured me that the lid works well and they’ve had no returns or other issues.

I ordered it with assurance that the warranty is good for 1 year. I’m very happy with the Hot water kettle & would recommend it to anyone looking for a stainless steel kettle. It was on a deal, and the company offered free S/H in addition.

Product arrived on time and well packaged. The kettle i got had a small brown smudge on the top edge of the kettle, its purely cosmetic but at first I thought it was damaged or used. Its not so oh well, no biggie.

Kettle has a short electrical cord, kinda wish it was longer but works perfectly if your using on a kitchen counter. I use mine in an office so a small indoor extension cord did the trick. Water boils quickly and i havent even put it on the hottest setting, it boils in less than 5 min.

Perfect to heat up water, boil eggs, instant saimin, etc. My biggest and main downside is the white residue that builds up on the bottom of the kettle whens its cooled down, that white powdery stuff sometimes floats on the water.

I googled it and apparently its from using hard water and is harmless. Its doesnt effect the taste or anything but you can see it floating in your drink. If you keep the kettle plugged in on warm (the lowest setting), it will cycle thru and turn on intermittently to re-heat whatever you have on the kettle so make sure to unplug it if you are done so nothing burns.

In our household this has been a standard product. By standard I mean everyone in my family had one. It’s called a hot case or hot box in our family or most of Indian household calls this way. I give it an ok review because it doesn’t keep food hot for more than 3 hrs.

But for immediate consumption it’s good. I live in kuwait and here summers are extreme that the water is so hot right from the tap. So when you wash your casserole after use make sure it is in cold or warm water.

I have had to change 2 casserole in 2 years, the foam inside starts to puff up and expand.

This has been in my home since ages now. It’s literally like our family. A desi family’s essentiality. I would like to upgrade the packaging though. It’s really affordable and it keeps your burritos and tortillas fantastically warm.

You can also keep any dry hot cooked dish perfectly the same in this.

Overall nice casserole. Love its outer look. Keeps chapatti fresh and hot for longer period. Even can store cooked curry and vegetables. Keep food warm throughout the meal. Comes with handle for more firm grip to hold from sides.

This is actually the second purchase I’ve had of this game. It is extremely linear and I imagined that the playability was nil, so when I was finished with the first run-through I just traded it in for game store points.

Now, years later, I really, really want to play again. It’s like a very pretty Cooking Mama, and is totally worth it in my opinion, linear or not. PS misleading cover is misleading- there are no real people!.

I bought this game because I love cooking games, and it looked fun, challenging, exciting. The reason I gave this game an average score is because I was done the same day I bought it. Loved it because: controls are easy some levels are challenging some of the character interactions are hilarious – I’m French, so when the girl goes Oh mon Dieu! Totally priceless.

It IS a fun game. period. Did not like it because: Can we say. short? the same day, I was done. I felt cheated, robbed. For the price, it could have been much much longer, or with different challenges, or “side” quests.

No real replay value – what’s to replay? nothing changes. (shrugs) Would I recommend it? maybe, IF and only if you can find a good used copy for a lower price. (I’ll be selling mine very soon).

I thought this game would be wonderful – yeah, it’s totally fun, and it’s AWESOME that it includes REAL gourmet dishes, that I really wanna make, but it includes sware words. The food critic says one twice, and the head chef says one once.

I could not believe that this game was rated E!!! I’d rate it T- (Teen) that is, if I were to rate it. I say, it would have been a wonderful game, if it hadn’t included that. Plus, one of the costumers has a tatoo on his arm, that doesn’t look very nice.

And, one of the costumers is always yelling at his wife, and his wife’s dog, for not letting him ever choose hs meal. I wouldn’t recomend it.
