It’s a good basic kit for a beginner for an inexpensive price. However, if you are an experienced seamstress, you will want a quality pair of sewing scissors. The scissors in the kit are similar to a pair of kitchen scissors you would use to cut wax paper and string etc.
A quality pair of sewing scissors that is sharper is needed for cutting fabric if you are planning on doing a lot of sewing, quilting, etc. The metal sewing gage is of good quality and should hold up a long time.
The tape measurer is just fine. For the price, it is an acceptable basic kit. It could double as a travel kit if it had some snaps, hooks and eyes and a variety of buttons. Oh well. You can’t have it all for this modest price!.
I had fears ordering this set after reading some negative reviews on Amazon. I find this set to be of a great value for the price, as the scissors alone is worth the price! The scissors are sharp and adult sized, the seam ripper is also sharp and works wonderfully.
The cute pink tomato/strawberry pin cushion is of adequate size (about 1 1/2 inches across). The many colors of thread will come in handy for matching to needed repairs. The pins are contained in their own plastic bag to keep them from wandering.
The “case” isn’t really a case tho, and is just packaging. Would be nice if they would add a real case for an option. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by this set and quality! Love it!.
I am currently a fashion design major and wanted to give this kit a try since it seemed to have all the essentials that I needed. It was a big disappointment to say the least. The scissors were not very well for use on fabric, I actually had better luck with scissors I purchased at the dollar store.
The seam ripper was kinda dull and not that effective at ripping seams, I like the seam ripper that came with my sewing machine much better. The spools of thread are very cheap and not that great of quality.
The pencils to mark fabric did not work at all. The only things from this kit that I use is the measuring tape and pin cushion. Overall, I was not satisfied with this kit but if used for small projects such as sewing a button or emergency kit I guess it will do.

I had received the second book as a gift and wanted to see what was in the first book. Cute projects, especially young children’s clothes were featured. I think I will enjoy these projects as they are easy and with a minimal amount of fabric which will use up your stash.
I love this book! It has so many easy ideas and patterns for the novice to intermediate sewer. I have sewn a couple of projects already. who doesn’t have a yard of fabric laying around (well if your a sewer you always have fabric)! I am sure you can get these ideas/patterns by looking at blogs, etc.

I bought this for my 11yr old daughter for Christmas. She wanted a sewing kit to learn how to sew. This kit comes with all the necessary sewing accessories- different colored threads, needles (w/threader), pins (with stuffed ‘tomato’ pin cushion), thimble, scissors, measuring tape, buttons, some ric rac, material, felt cut outs, stuffing, projects (the first one we did is a pouch to keep the small accessories in),.
a cool storage box with handle to hold everything in. The only glitch- the instructions are terrible. If you want your child to learn independently, this kit is not it. My daughter reads on a 9th grade level and received the Presidential award for excellence in school, and is on the high honor roll.
She was so frustrated with the instructions, she gave up until I sat with her and taught her how to sew properly, what each accessory was and what it is used for. there was no way she was going to “Thread a piece of ribbon or ric-rac through the drawstring sleeves.
” on her own. I had to show her to attach a safety pin to one end of the ribbon, feed it thru one open end of the pouch and move it thru to the other end, and knot both ends so they don’t slip back out.
The instructions lead her to believe you can just thread the slippery ribbon thru the material with just your fingers! The instructions do include pictures in lieu of written directions in some spots- not helpful either in our opinion.
I would totally buy her this kit again, in hindsight knowing I would throw away the instructions and guide her myself :).

This is a really nice book with interesting, appealing & varied projects. – from bunny ears headband to bedroom storage and accessories. lots that I would make myself. I say with as she will need plenty of help and patience to begin with but will grow into it eventually sewing on her own.

This book is great! For context, I came across this book through Daisy’s Instagram page after following her. Daisy explains things well and included diagrams for people who need a visual for instructions.
The patterns are based on your body measurements, rather than dress size, so it’s easier to make clothing I’ve found. This does mean that the items are flowy and not form fitting, so keep that in mind.
I’ve already made three things based on the patterns in this book and can’t wait to make more. I got my sewjo back thanks to this book, so 10/10 recommend!.
As a very beginner clothes sewer/quilter, I found this book to be an amazing resource not only in simple pattern drafting but for starting your sewing journey as everything is explained to you clearly from different types of fabric, the tools you will need (or those that make it easier) to the techniques that will be used.

My daughter really enjoyed this and overall I am glad I bought it. Couple of problems. I don t think it s a good gift unless you talk with caregiver first because it is quite difficult and my daughter (age 10) needed a lot of help.
For me, I didn t mind, but you have to make sure someone can help. Other problems were that the needles were too small and flimsy for the job they need to do, both snapped and we had to buy bigger ones.
Also the marker was missing but we just used a pencil. Seems the marker was missing for other folks too. Great rainy day project, it took most of the day to make one. I think they will make great little gifts for friends.
This is a cute kit but right off the bat there s a problem. The box doesn t say there is a fabric marker included but the instructions list it as included. The fabric marker is super important and it is something that most people don t just have around the house.
We are using a pencil but it s hard to use on fabric. So far this is the only issue we ve run into. I will edit as we get further into the project.
My granddaughter is loving this kit. I do have a suggestion to the manufacturer though. I find that the directions are missing basic steps in sewing. how to place a pattern, cut it, how to use a needle and thread, among others.

What an amazing inspiring book. Never had much experience of sewing clothes so brought this book hoping to give me simple how to do it instructions. This book didn’t fail. Easy to read instructions I traced out my pattern size and altered the bits I needed to with the guide of how to do it in this book.
Step by step instruction and encouragement from the author I made a pair of pyjamas for myself without any fuss inside of 2 hours without need to alter bits after sewing. Love love love the book for not just an inexperienced like me but even a confidant sewer will find useful tips.

Ive just discovered Tilly and the buttons. Their patterns are so user friendly. This book also instructs on a lot of terminology you may be unfamiliar with. Bargain with patters included.
I’ve wanted to make some of these outfits for ages but all the patterns are super fiddly and I her bored with zips etc. These patterns are so easy and true to word time wise. The pattern sheet is a bit tricky as there are lots of patterns on the same sheet.
If you have a printer, great as you can access online patterns with the book. If not, I traced onto A3. Took a while it worth it!!!.

I had taken this book out of the library and after looking through it, decided to buy it. For anyone who sews, there will be many projects in here that you will want to do. My only caveat is that the disc in the back of the book, which contains pdf files of some of the patterns, is the large size disc that does not fit into my computer.
Many of the projects do not require a pattern from the disc, however.
This book is an overview of sewing techniques and household sewing projects. It brings together many articles from past issues of her magazines. It doesn’t include dressmaking or tailoring. The book includes how-to’s on felting, dying, embroidery (machine and hand) and gives examples and patterns for home crafts such as pillow making, felt stuffed animals, tablecloths and more.
It came in a plastic bag without ant inner packing to stabilize it so the dust cover was torn and the hardcover was damaged. That and it was late. Couldnt and wouldnt give it as a Christmas present.

Lots of information. Starts from basics including fabric descriptions and uses, equipment required and pattern uses and alterations. Makes sense and easy to understand. Makes a great reference book. Starts from basic projects for beginners and gradually adds new skills to increase your skills to become a confident sewer.
I bought this book because I wanted to learn to make clothes a little better and I thought it could help, plus I loved that it included patterns that I could use. It gives good information on techniques you can use to make clothes and also it tells you how you can manipulate a pattern to change the make something else, but it is not easy.
There are some designs in the book you can create with instructions included. The patterns are a little tricky to use, but there are instructions about them in the book. For example you have to add a seam allowance to the patterns, which I find kind of annoying.
And understanding how to make the garments is a not very easy either, as you often are changing pattern pieces or making new ones for the designs that are listed in the book. And you have to make sure you have the proper materials as listed in the book when it comes to copying the patterns or it is difficult to get the seam allowances right.
But the designs in the book are cute. The book is helpful in learning more about pattern making and working with patterns, but I would only recommend this for non-beginners because it can be a little tricky making the more difficult designs in the book, or it could just be me.
But if you are intermediate or advanced then it should be a breeze. It was an okay book overall.
Although I’ve been sewing for many years, recently I’ve been interested in the Burda method of pattern editing for size and style. This book is full of detailed information, that is delivered in a straightforward and helpful manner.

Bought this book as a gift for a friend who has had her sewing machine for years but has not had the courage to use it. This book has everything. It explains the sewing machine controls and it’s use in a concise easy to understand way.
It then has some lovely projects to make for practise using your machine. My friend loved it. Good value for money too.
For someone new to sewing like myself, this book is ideal. It gives simple basic instructions and combines this with little projects for beginners. It is easy to read, not long-winded and simple to follow.
I think there is plenty of help to understand basics in this book without daunting the novice by overloading the book and making it too long and complicated. I would reccomment this to all those new to sewing machines.
This book has been extremely helpful. As a first time sewer who has had to learn via YouTube and book due to Covid cancelling lessons, this book has been great in helping me understand my machine and understanding the different terminology used in the sewing world.
I would highly recommend this book, it also has some lovely simple projects for you to do.

I am not a beginner at selling handmade but thought this book would give me some much needed inspiration and it has! An excellent, well written book with some lovely projects and great ideas for me to apply to my own business.
I have purchased the author’s patterns in the past so knew it would be a good book to have! Product pricing is in $ so I will need to convert to get an idea in but overall am very happy with this book.
From organization and packaging to selling, this book covers many aspects of the craft business. There are interviews and color photos. It even includes patterns and instructions for sixteen projects.
I would have to say practice a little patience! It took a bit longer than expected, but was very much worth the wait!!! It is full of ideas and directions. Good for a novice. Would definitely use this service again should the need arise.

Although this is a nice book the instructions for the projects aren’t particularly clear and it takes a bit of time to get to grips with what is needed. The photographs accompanying the projects are not very clear either.
So far I have only made one of the projects from the book, I did attempt a second but found the instructions too obtuse.
I love this book. Lots of ideas for fat quarters. In previous books there has always been small paper patterns that need up-sizing which I find incredibly difficult and results in me giving up. Not so here, pattern is in real size and only need copy on to material.

I haven’t had chance to make anything from this book yet but I chose it for the variety of small projects you could make. I was looking for a childs apron pattern and toys which wouldn’t take up much fabric both of which I found in the book.
It is well presented with good explanations and photos. I’m looking forward to using it.
