20 Best Self Propelled Lawn Mower For Hills (2023 Updated)

I was quite pleased with the performance of this mower. I bought it to mow an embankment next to my house that has a slope of 20 to 30 degrees across it. It is also sparsely populated with weeds and new grass that has not taken very well yet.

It is several thousand square feet in size. I have a similar GW battery mower that is not self powered. I could not manage to push that one across the slope. This new mower is amazing. It went up the slope, down the slope, and across the slope with ease.

I could get about 15 minutes of runtime on a 4. 0Ah battery. It took several recharges on two batteries to mow the whole thing. A couple of the new 6. 0Ah batteries would have ran for 45 minutes, which would have me needing a rest.

I should point out that this was in mulch mode.

This is a great mower. I use it to mow and bag my lawn. Height adjustment is so easy. After using a push mower, I really appreciate the self propelled feature. Controls are well placed making speed changing a breeze.

Bagger is well made and does not blow grass out the sides like my old mower. Battery installation is easy and red safety plug is a great feature. You can’t go wrong with this mower. Only feature that is missing is for the second battery to automatically switch over when the first battery is dead.

It does have a place to carry the second battery but you have to stop and manually swap them over.

I bought the lawnmower almost 3 years ago. The batteries still hold their charge (maybe 90% of its original charge) and the mower itself is a placer to work with. The lever with 7 positions is super practical especially to change how long or short you want your grass depending on the season and the amount of water that the grass has received.

I usually use 1 battery for around 80% of the front yard and the other one to finish the front and around 70% of the back yard. I still gave 5 stars because this 30% left every time that forces me to finish, invariably the next day, with a freshly new charged battery is not their fault: my yards are not tiny.

When it comes to design oh boy!, it’s GENIUS! Particularly the vertical space saver position! Really smart, and super easy to accomplish. Is not that you are moving and twisting stuff for 15 minutes to get there.

It is REALLY as simple as 1, 2, 3. I was hesitant to buy a wireless lawn mower because I wrongly assumed there will not have power or the batteries were gonna die in just a few minutes. I WAS WRONG. I’m about to buy now the edger and a hedge trimmer so I can finally get rid of everything that implies plugging a 100f cable.

I am so extremely disappointed in this mower. It significantly lacks the power and battery life to even get through a 50X25 Ft area before dying. The mower is constantly bogging down and stopping every couple of minutes due to the lack of power, and can’t even go through a basic lawn.

It might be good for a very small property or a townhouse yard, but to mow a basic 10,000 SqFt property is absolute torture and extremely frustrating. I would return this mower in a heartbeat, however they only give a 30 day return window which isn’t even enough time to truly gauge an item like this that is only used maybe 1 or 2 times in a 30 day period.

I feel as though I just threw away a significant amount of money for absolutely nothing. Disappointed and frustrated don’t even begin to describe how I feel. Going with an electric mower was a HUGE mistake.

This is a great powerful mower! Unfortunately, it does not have a battery power gauge that remains on. You have to actually press a button on the base camp system. Additionally, you may expect to be able to control blade speed, but that is automatically adjusted when in thicker grassy areas.

I appreciate not having a single battery to create the power, in the event there is a malfunction with the battery at any given point. While it may lack some competitor features its still great to have.

The runtime is around the one hour mark if your lawn is maintained and not beyond a half acre. I am extremely curious to see what is in store for the 80v series. Potential.

I think it cuts great and has a lot of power for the hills on my lawn and battery life is great. However it does have what I consider a design flaw that is annoying. The self propel engagement should NOT be a bar.

I tend to stall when turning around because i need to slow down and while I turn, I tend to let up just enough on the black bar that engages the motor that I stall. if it had a different way like my gas mower to engage, it would be perfect.

It could also use a lower cutting level. I put it on the lowest, and usually I am one or two above on my previous mower. I love the quality of the product.

It’s quieter and much sturdier than I expected but not as sturdy as a gas mower with independent wheel height adjustments. The convenience of a single-lever height adjustment trumps the single lever per wheel method.

If you are a ham radio operator, be aware that the battery charger emits broad-spectrum RFI which will cause hash in your receivers. Most switching power supplies and chargers suffer this malady unless designed for communications applications.

Once the charge cycle is complete, the charger shuts down (the green charge light stays lit, indicating a full charge), and then RFI diminishes. Unplug when not in use. Vibration is minimal without the reciprocating mass of a piston engine.

Overall, the cut quality is excellent, but mulching and discharge efficiencies aren’t as good as a gas mower. Close, but no cigar due to the slower blade speed at its lesser of two operating RPMs during light or normal mowing.

To remove the battery easily from the compartment, press the battery forward toward the front of the mower and hold it while depressing the battery release lever. This releases spring tension on the lever and will allow you to remove the battery without stressing your fingers.

The safety plug in the battery compartment is a good safety feature. Only time will tell if the plug-‘n’-go convenience of this mower is worth the increased cost over that of a similar gas mower.

I bought this from an online auction 2 years ago. I have had it for 2 seasons and it’s cut wonderfully every time I’ve used it. This mower has an issue with grass build up in the side chute, but I can live with that.

A few weeks ago, I go out to my shed to cut the lawn, and all it does is. nothing. Beeps at me twice. The battery wasn’t full so I charged it up full (it doesn’t take long, these batteries are great!) and tried again.

Still beeps. To google I go a-hunting for an answer. Greenworks doesn’t provide and answer on the site so I do some digging. Couple articles and Youtube videos later points to a bad battery, or a computer fried somehow.

Greenworks is proud of these batteries (For good reason!) and the computer is told to me to be around $30 U. S, so let’s start there. My issue, there’s no part number on this computer block at all, and, to make things worse, there is ZERO results when looking for the part.

Greenworks doesn’t list any internal part on their site at all. Guess it’s a secret or something. My serial number for my mower isn’t in their database it seems. (GWZ0110162) (01/11/20 build date) So, my experience for 2 seasons with this mower was amazing.

Self propelled system was almost too fast to keep up with, which was great to get the yard done quickly. The automatic rpm adjustment made the thick spots in my yard seem like they weren’t even there.

I give 4 stars because of the lack of parts available to fix my issue (it’s quite simple to pull the computer out, 10 screws, couple clips, easy) added to the fact their is no part number to even find the part I need.

25 acre property with battery to spare. Then I put battery in my new 80V backpack blower and clear off the sidewalk and driveway. This model is much lighter than my previous gas self-propelled model.

I can push it up my graded lawn with ease without using the self-propelled feature, though I appreciate the self-propelled assist when called upon for the long incline runs across the back yard. The self-adjusting power feature means the mower takes a moment to get up to a good walking speed (which is also adjustable) using self-propelled feature, but once there it maintains well.

Cutting performance is just as good as my conventional gas mower. Well done Greenworks! Customer service even walked me though a hiccup at first use (push and hold the green start button first, then engage the blade lever to hear mower start) and gave me other tips on my other purchases, saving another call.

They were courteous, professional and very helpful. A good experience for me. Now I feel confident in replacing all the gas yard equipment.

FedEx just delivered it today. Ordered direct because it was out of stock everywhere else. Opened the box expecting to have to do all kinds of assembly. Wrong. It was more work getting it out of the box than it was setting it up.

Used the supplied oil (the engine ships without oil), Fill the fuel tank, assembled the bag, set the cutting height, snapped the handle in place and turned the key. (The electric start is really nice.

The pull cord and it starts on the first try, but hey. turning the key is so much easier. Plus the little starter battery charges as the engine runs, so it’s always powered up. Then it was Zoom Zoom as the kid in the commercial used to say.

What I did discover is there are some very nice advantages along with some distracting features that will take some getting used to. I love the fact you can release the clutch and the engine keeps running when you change the bag or have to get an obstacle out of the way.

My last one didn’t do that. It only had one handle that controlled the drive and the blade. Release the handle and everything stopped. Nuisance when bagging a large yard. This has 2 handles, one for the clutch and one for the blade clutch.

The yellow button takes some getting used to. I especially like the adjustable walking speed feature. In previous mowers the only way to reduce walking speed was to reduce engine speed, which also reduced blade spinning speed.

This way all the setting remain the same and the only thing that changes is how fast or slow you want to walk. The one thing I found different/annoying/cumbersome but I’m sure I will learn to live with is the fact this is a rear wheel drive mower.

Every one I’ve ever owned has been front wheel drive and muscle memory keeps telling me to lift the front wheels off the ground when I reach the end of the row to turn. That doesn’t work here. Lifting the front wheels off the ground just gives the drive wheels more bite and it started to run away from me.

It’s that same muscle memory keeping me from releasing the clutch handle because I’m so accustomed to having the engine die when I do that. So I have to train myself to forget those years of ‘how it used to work’ to how it works now.

Hopefully, but the end of summer it will become second nature. Another feature is the big green knob at the rear to set the mulch or bag feature, and I forget to turn it from the mulch position. I finally figured out why the bag wasn’t filling with grass.

it only took me an hour. The 7 position wheel height took a few adjustments to get the right cutting height, I did some scalping because I discovered the rear wheels were factory set to the lowest level and the front wheels were set to 3.

That was my bad and once adjusted, it cuts perfectly. What did surprise me was the engine noise. I somehow expected a Honda engine to run quieter than it did. My older mowers all had B-S engines and they were loud.

I have twin 250HP Honda 4 stroke engines on my 27 foot outboard and they run quiet as any outboard on the planet, and I kinda figured this one would too. The engine is relatively quiet, but when you press the yellow button and push the handle forward to engage the blade, the sound level doubles.

Other than that, I’m happy as a clam. I don’t have photos, because it looks like. well. just like the pictures here. Hope this helps some folks who are thinking about buying one. This model is top of the line and yes, it’s pricey, but it’s worth every dime.

I will start by saying that I was hesitant on buying this mower simply because of the price, paying almost $1,000 for a walk behind mower that I’m only going to be mainly using for trimming in my lawn care business was a bit tough to swallow.

However it was time for a new mower and I have been using a Toro super recycler with personal pace that is a 2003 model. Granted this mower still works and fires up every single time on the first or second pull but it only has mulching capabilities and it doesn’t take much to bog it down anymore.

I received this mower as a gift so I can’t really complain as it has done a lot for me but I needed something better and more powerful. After doing days and days of research and reviews It ultimately came down to Honda another Toro super recycler or the Toro 31 in timemaster.

I thought about going with a commercial walk behind mower but couldn’t justify the price when again I am mainly only using it as a trimming mower as all of my properties I can get my zero turn pretty much anywhere I need to get access to.

I have used this mower only one time and that was today on a property that has not yet been cut for the year and was definitely overgrown. The property owner went out to mow and his mower took a crap on him so he called my lawn care business and I went out and looked at it.

I knew I was going to need something else to get this job done efficiently and was definitely not taking my Toro over there because if I did I would literally be there all day trying to keep it from stalling out.

I ultimately decided to get the Honda and let me tell you anybody that is on the fence about this mower I’m telling you buy it you will not be disappointed and as a matter of fact you will be so very happy with it.

I can’t begin to say how happy I am with it. it has a ton of power and I was mowing 8 inch grass that was very thick and wet and the mower had no issue at all I could not believe it. This mower is going to save me so much time and effort it is unbelievable.

It is well worth the cost I will never buy another mower as long as they keep making these. I’m hoping that I don’t have to buy one for a long time however if and when that time ever does come unless there is something significant on the market at that time this will be a no-brainer as a repurchase.

I have only had this mower for the last 3 months of the cutting season. In spite of the weight, the racheted rear drive system is much easier to manipulate and turn than my previous mower (a Cub Cadet) which would dig up the sod occasionally.

The strength needed to start it also is much less than my old mower which has injured my pull arm once or twice. Changing the oil is very easy and not messy due to the positioning of the oil spout. Having the fuel cutoff has solved some problems as well.

I love the throttle type speed control that doesn’t need your hand on it all the time to maintain a particular speed (one of my favorite features and it is as good as I had hoped) I’ve only been using this a short time now but I do have some concerns.

The throttle tends to creep down over time and is easy to bump when changing drive speeds (which I do all the time). The detent for the handle doesn’t seem to hold the throttle well and it slips out resulting in the engine speed slowly dropping over time.

I need to keep pushing the throttle back into the high speed position. Also, in reading many reviews on these mowers with the hydrostatic transmission, I read where some folks were getting a growling sound coming from the drive mechanism and the mower moving forward at a slower speed than normal for a given setting of the speed lever.

The last time or two I used this mower this season, I started getting this same noise and the speed of the drive becoming a bit slower. This is a great concern for me over a very expensive mower that I’ve only been using the last 3 months.

It’s not real bad at this point but others have run into this problem with this mower. Also, the clip director doesn’t seal very well on the mulch setting and grass clippings build up in the rear discharge area occasionally falling out as a big lump of grass onto the lawn.

I understand that some gaps are necessary so that the clip director doesn’t get jammed up with clippings, but the spillover during mulching is a bit of a nuisance.

Purchasing Experience: I purchased. my newer Honda from Kipps Lawnmower Sales and Service in Lisle, IL, rather than the Home Depot (HD) where I purchased my prior Honda mower. The very knowledgeable sales staff at Kipp’s can answer all your questions, including technical questions, which you don’t encounter at HD.

Also Kipp’s prep the brand new-mower including adding the oil at no additional charge. The first thing I had done when I brought the mower home was to apply Meguiars car wax to the outside of the body and to the underbody of the mower where the grass collects.

I was advised by Kipp’s to buy 93 octane fuel for this mower. This is an air-cooled engine which generates a high amount of heat, where higher octane fuel burns cooler than lower octane, besides the 93 octane gas contains more detergents.

Performance Review: The Honda has 39 hours of operation with both my wife and I operating it. We both agree that this mower starts as advertised with one easy pull during warm temperatures. We are both thrilled with the self-propelled feature, which you can adjust the speed to your walking pace.

I personally like the fact that the speed control can be operated by the soft tissue of my palms below my thumbs, whereas my wife likes to operate it by using her thumbs. I mention my particular method as an alternative to anyone using the thumb method and finding that their thumbs were getting tired or painful (as several had mentioned in their reviews).

The mulching capabilities are indeed superb! I find the height adjustment extremely easy to operate with the lever in the back that adjusts both back wheels, while the front lever adjusts both front wheels.

There is a potential drawback to this design (not apparently recognized by most folks) which prevents the operator to lower the height on one side of the mower, while keeping the other side higher, which can allow one to mow the small strip of grass along the edge of sidewalks, driveways and curbs (this isn’t a dealbreaker and most operators would not bother with this extra chore, even if they had height adjusters on all four wheels).

Honda did a fabulous job allowing the mower to pull backwards without any resistance, which had plagued many of the prior Hondas (including my prior Honda mower with the more expensive plastic-body, which I had given to my son, once his prior mower had died).

On my wish list, I would have preferred a plastic body or an aluminum body, which cuts down the weight of the mower and eliminates rust problems that can plague steel mower bodies, but the price would escalate accordingly.

I did change the motor oil after the (Honda suggested) initial 5 hours of operation with Amsoil’s 100% Synthetic 10W30 “Commercial Grade” Small Engine Oil, which is an outstanding oil and specifically designed for this air-cooled Honda engine.

I am not aware of any other synthetic oil for small engines that advertises that they are 100% synthetic (some of the competition claims they produce a full synthetic oil, whatever that means—-but why are they afraid to express their percentage of synthetic in their oil)? Most other oil companies manufacture an oil that is designed for water-cooled automobile engines, which lack the required level of zinc.

There are so many things to like about this mower. I use it primarily to trim up areas that I can’t get to with the large riding mower. We mow about 1. 5 acres in a rural area and have to trim along fence lines and around wooded areas.

First, it starts really easily and runs quiet. It has unloaders on the piston so it doesn’t try to tear your arm off when you start it while hot after just shutting it off. The 3 speed self-propelled feature is wonderful and easy and intuitive to use.

It really saves this old man because our lot is hilly and helps when mowing along a fence line while trying to go up hill. The fact that it discharges in the rear is great too. It doesn’t throw clippings into areas like walkways or flower beds.

This also means that you can trim along the edge with either side of the housing since the discharge chute is in the back and not on the side. Also you can operate it on either side with just one hand on the blade brake and self propelled lever making it easier to trim under branches and other overhead obstructions.

I thought the mulching aspect was a lot of sales talk but the dual blade design really does cut the clippings into smaller pieces that are easily absorbed into the grass. It was simple to set up, no tools needed and they even included a bottle of oil for the engine.

The whole mower is very sturdy including the handle which helps greatly when trimming around an obstruction. It is a bit heavy and difficult to push when you can’t utilize the self propelled feature so I make sure I don’t do that anymore than necessary.

However, you can pull it backwards when that’s necessary while trimming. Best walk behind mower ever!.

I have owned the Honda composite deck HRX217 for 4 years now. It’s a great mower, but the steel deck HRN series is actually better, despite the HRX being billed everywhere as the Cadillac. I was forced to purchase another mower after I accidentally hit bolts on the basketball hoop baseplate with the hrx and twisted the crankshaft.

So I bought the HRN as I had used a friend’s a few years ago and was impressed. The HRN is better than the HRX in my opinion for the following reasons: – 10lbs lighter. – Variable on the fly speed control – No resistance when pulling backward Those three thing kind of work together in tandem which contributes to a much nicer and easier experience when mowing.

Yes, the hrx hydro has adjustable speed control on the fly, but it is much more cumbersome to adjust. The Hrn hand control lets you articulate it in the fly without changing hand position. I also feel the hrn mulches better although the hrx might lay down a slightly, ever so slightly nicer overall cut.

Lastly, the hrx when used properly with the variable chute is an absolute beast when cleaning up heavy leaves. I can’t comment on the hrn yet as it hasn’t been put to the test in this capacity yet. The hrn chute is less variable only allowing full bag or full mulch.

I really love this mower! Besides looking real sharp, the way they designed the variable speed is brilliant – no more squeezing a lever, remembering to let go when you are pulling instead of pushing.

instead, they’ve made it so that the handle IS the variable speed control. The faster you walk, the faster the wheels spin! If you pull backward, the drive wheels are automatically disengaged. The mower has plenty of power and at its fastest speed, you will be mowing at a brisk walking pace.

I have not found it to be quite as easy to start as I had expected – sometimes requires more than two pulls, despite their guarantee. Also, I stored the mower on a slight downhill slant for a week and was shocked to see it blow copious amounts of smoke upon start-up! The manufacturer said something about “cavitation,” i.

e. oil pooling where it isn’t supposed to. I now store it level and the problem has gone away. Still, the crappy mower that this replaced was always stored on an angle and never blew smoke. All in all, I’m still very happy with the performance and the look of this mower.

Bought year ago. Had problem with carburatore. Had it fix at dealership I bought it at. Since it was still under warranty I figured no cost to have it repaired. Dealership charged me, said this was not covered by warranty.

Big disappointment on my part. The other concern I have is the steel deck. After several uses you can scrap of some rust on bottom of deck. Need to clean it after several uses and spray with rust inhibitor.

I have used around 4 times. It has exceeded my expectations. Easy to set height adjustments. Wish there were half settings. No issues with mowing the ditch for the front yard drainage. The self propelled moves easily on the inclines.

Engine sound is quiet compared to past mowers I have owned. I use premium gas as I also own a Cub Cadet. Very happy have made purchases for Cub Cadet products.

Have less than 3 hours on new Honda Mower but so far I have been impressed. I have owned Toro Mowers for over 40 years with excellent results so when I needed a new mower I researched Toro and Honda.

I really struggled with choosing Honda over Toro. I like the self-propelled much better than Toro’s personal pace. I believe the cut quality is better also. I like being able to select partial mulching and bagging simultaneously.

The 201cc engine never bogs down, even in wet zoysia grass. It starts on first pull. I got the electric start because it was the only model available. I’ll probably never use it given how easily it starts.

While you can’t go wrong with a Honda or Toro. I believe Honda has raised the bar.

I read countless reviews on countless manufacturers and models. And the options, warranty, service/repair and parts availability, dependability of the Honda name, and again the online reviews kept leading back to the Honda.

So i purchased the HRX217K6VLAA which gave me every thing i was looking for including someone to even walk behind it and mow. my wife! lol With the electric start she can go out and “start” the mower and go on her own.

Seriously. Electric start, easy speed and handle height adjustability and the wife is happy so I’m happy! Plenty of power and the mulch to bagging switch option is awesome. I’ve cleaned up the hay field(my yard) a couple of times all ready.

These comments apply to our HRX217K6VLA mower, MAMA-1232689 purchased 8/19/2020. We mow two acres with a John Deere 60 inch underbelly mower. The Honda grooms places inaccessible to the tractor including boxed corners; close to fences, walls, flower beds and trees; tight places between ditches and fences and a narrow path around a sanitary lagoon’s dam’s top.

It isn’t used for normal back and forth lawn mowing. I like the mower, the following are question/ideas for improvements. The transition between the handlebar’s metal rods and top plastic portion is a straight cut off.

When mowing close, this plastic overhang catches on fence panels. A rounded transition will solve this problem. A height adjustment lever’s black plastic end tangles with mesh fence wire, gets pulled out and resets the height.

Changing the plastic end’s color to engine cover red will aid in seeing if a lever has moved. When mowing short steep banks, tight places, and wet grass the drive tires spin. Optional rear tires with traction treads are needed.

I haven’t mastered thumbing the Select Drive Control for extra torque. I use a medium fast setting for power in tough grass, to climb and when rubbing against fences and wall bottoms. When leaving the tough area I have trouble feathering the control to avoid the need to run.

The black “speed” knob moves out of its setting on its own. Providing a fine ratcheting feature will prevent this. Reverse is a nice feature but likely will raise cost and weight. Weight is a problem.

Situations often require pulling the mower in and out of a place and heading uphill. A light mower makes this easier. I do like the plastic housing, it cleans easily and won’t rust. The rear discharge enables mowing close to a wall or fence from either the mower’s left or right side, a great feature.

Would the chrome strips mentioned in the manual help protect the mower’s bottom sides when cutting very close to rough stone walls? Occasional rock hits are inevitable as both our lane and the road are crushed rock.

Changeable carbide cutting edge inserts would help retain sharpness and reduce blade damage. A way to drain oil better then dumping it from the filler neck is needed. A decal states the protective film over the mower’s top be removed before use.

Doing this on our mower will ruin the mower designation label.

I’ve used the mower once with acceptabler results. I hope it lasts as long as my previous Honda which lasted 23 yrs. My previous mower was working fine until the body motor mounts cracked. Engine was still running strong.

It even had the original wheels and bag. I do have some issues that I think Honda needs to addres with the new mower: 1. Handle height. I’m 6′ 3″ and the height is too low at the highest setting. This is a common complaint from other reviews.

When compared to my previous Honda which had a maximum 44″ height vs the new mower which has a maximum 38″ height at the highest setting. I don’t understand why Honda, given the space on the handle support did not drill a fouth hole from the factory to as I did to raise the height for 6’+ consumers.

I was able to drill an additional hole in the handle support at the same pitch and size as the exiting holes and it raised the height to 44″ the same as my previous mower height. 2. Blade / Motor. New mower does not allow motor to run without blade engaged.

If blade handle is let go mower engine stops. Old mower allowed motor to start and run without blade spinning and used the blade engagement handle to engage / disengage the blade with the motor running with either option.

I don’t kjnow if this is a new safety feature or not but I don’t see how it could be as the only way to engage the blade is to hold the handle as with the older model. 3. Self propelled max speed is too slow.

As I mentioned I’m 6′ 3 so I could use a faster setting. Again, my old Honda mower self propelled top speed was faster than the new one and had wider speed range. 4. Mulching door does not fully seal bag chute opening.

The mulching door should completely seal the bag chute opening when to set to maximum mulch setting. This is consistently reported problems in othe reviews.

I will try and keep this as short as I can and still be as accurate as possible. I have about acre lakefront lot to mow and am using 2 other mowers along with this new Honda, a Toro super recycler, and a Snapper Ninja (both have Briggs and Stratton 196cc engines).

I use all my mowers on “mulch” settings. I’ve used this new Honda 4 times now and have a pretty good impression of what it’s like and how it compares to my other 2 mowers of comparable size, price, and engine size.

First for the positive things. This mower has the best-looking mulch cut of any mower I’ve used, it really cuts beautifully with literally no signs of grass clippings. This mower is also the lightest weight mower I have due to a plastic deck and almost all plastic parts.

It starts easily like most other mowers. Also, this is a good quiet mower, both of my Briggs and Stratton 196cc mowers are annoyingly loud. And that’s about all of the positive. Now the negative. For a 200cc engine, it feels more like other 163cc mowers I’ve used.

This mower bogs down in thick or wet grass more than both my other mowers put together. My Ninja has never even slowed down for long wet grass, much less ever stalled. My Toro also seems much less likely to clog or stall, but to be fair does every once in a while after a good rain.

Next are the hand controls which had very sharp edges on the back side of the grips, and required filing a bit to not get cut or blistered. The drive system feels weak and seems to start off slowly and take a second or two to speed up, and you can almost stop the mower even with the drive engaged.

It just doesn’t seem to have much “grab” when you squeeze the handles, but again to try and be fair, it’s working acceptable and seems to fit the mediocre power of the engine. I must also explain the feel of the drive system of my other 2 mowers.

My Ninja is a literal beast and almost pulls out for my grip it engaged so positively. My Toro with personal pace control is by far the most effortless smooth drive system I’ve ever used. This was my first Honda mower and I was really excited to give it a whirl.

All in all, it’s doing its job. Maybe not as well as my other mowers in some ways, but also better than my other mowers in some ways. At the end of the day, it’s a very expensive piece of plastic, and I hope it keeps running and lasts a very long time.

Spent a good half hour looking to see if the bolt worked itself loose during shipping but everything was snug. Have cut my lawn 3 times since purchasing and everything seems good. Plenty of power and single pull starting every time so far.

Honda engine seems fairly fuel efficient. I am concerned about the self propelled drive unit being constructed entirely of plastic. Hope it holds up the inevitable bumps when mowing around fixed objects.

One other complaint was how low the drive control hangs from the main handle. It requires your other hand to engage the drive. With my previous mower single handed operation was no problem. I suppose this could be fixed with a couple of zip ties to hold the drive control closer to the lawnmower handle.

We got the lawn mower, read the manual, and mowed the lawn once. The push assist stopped working halfway through and it turns out the transmission died. We got that replaced under warranty, and it worked perfectly fine when we got it back.

The next time we went to use it, the engine wouldn’t start. New gas, new oil, clean everything, still won’t start. Fantastic product. Best part is, their user manual doesn’t tell you how to clean or check anything.

This mower is fantastic! I had a previous version that lasted me 7 years with zero problems and I basically wore it out. I waited several months till I could order a new one and as soon as it was available I put in my order.

Item shipped quickly and only required minimal assembly. I am 68 and the electric start is a thing of beauty! It is sturdy and well made. It is self propelled and makes quick work of cutting under trees and around bushes.

The collection bag is sturdy and easy to empty. my terrain is not a manicured lawn but lined by wooded areas so I use this to keep those areas trimmed back and it is a workhorse. Can’t say enough good about this mower!.

I bought this model several years ago and been extremely happy with the performance and tech support pertaining to the TB290. Maintenance is minimal because of the lawnmower design. I loved this machine so much that I have given it to my father for ease of grass cutting and he enjoys it for every summertime lawn care.

Parts are very easy to obtain through the online catalog as well with helpful staff on the phones to assist you with any questions. I upgraded to the XP490 and satisfied with the purchase. You can’t go wrong with Troy-Bilt !.

I have a Greenworks battery powered mower that I bought around six years ago, and with as hot as this summer has been decided that I’m getting too old to push a mower around and bought this self-propelled model.

I have some other Greenworks lawn tools so I have plenty of extra batteries. I have a very small urban front yard and a fairly decent-sized back yard and with the addition of the 5ah battery I have enough power to do both without having to recharge.

It was simple to put together – it took me about five minutes – and the instruction manual is very clear and well done. The powder coating on the steel deck is flawless. Very good-looking mower. The self-propelled function is awesome and my lawn looks as good as if I’d mowed with a gas mower, and I can’t say the same about my older Greenworks mower so obviously this company continues to improve its products.

I wish I had gone the self-propelled route years ago. It’s almost zero effort mowing with it. I will give kudos to Walmart as this mower with the 5ah battery and charger is $52 less than your largest online competitor.

It pays to compare prices.

I got my mower three weeks ago and I really love it so far. Though I had an initial problem with the self-propeller cable, it was easily fixed and now works wonderfully. I love it because: 1. It’s quite light-weight and easy for me to handle 2.

It’s so quiet – I can mow without worrying about disturbing my neighbors. 3. I have a big yard but the charge from one battery easily lasts throughout. 4. It’s electric – no worries about environmental impact from mowing, even on ozone action days.

5. It’s so easy to start – no more struggling with the gas mower’s pull cord. 6. The self-propeller will move the mower around even if the blades are not engaged – I love that. 7. The cost seemed very reasonable.

I’d highly recommend this mower.

I finally got to test this mower and it’s almost a perfect for my rough 1/4 acre. Pros self propelling mower made it go quite quicker. This probably took off 10-15 minutes of now time for my front lawn.

Not so pro or con- when you get got of self propelling feature, wheels locked up to where you couldn’t push it. About 3 seconds to release wheel for self pushing mode. Cons- no real ones. Small delay on start up meaning that once you hit the button, there was like a 3 second delay.

I had the corded version of this mower, so this took the cord out of my mowing life. Overall quite pleased, yet with a 1/4 lot, I’d consider a second backup battery but i it does have a fast charge time.

I have only mowed the lawn once with this mower and I am impressed so far. I owned a Honda self propelled push mower back in the 1990’s and was never happy with the mower. I have avoided self propelled mowers and Honda mowers since my first experience with my 1990’s Honda mower.

After reading all of the reviews of the latest Hondas and comparing the reviews with other mowers on the market, I decided to buy another Honda. Honda has apparently listened to past customers and made dramatic improvements to their mowers.

The mower is much easier to handle. Honda has addressed all of the issues I had with my 1990’s Honda mower. I’ll update this review after I have more hours of use but I believe the review will remain positive in the future.

I’ve had this mower for a few months now and feel I can write an accurate review. This is such a simple mower to use and has all the basic features I need. It is very easy to start and has enough power for basic lawn maintenance.

I thought I wanted a self propelled mower but with a large flat yard I like the better control I have without propulsion. I also thought I wanted a bagger but the mower chops the clippings so finely that it doesn’t bother me and I like leaving the clippings to allow the nutrients to go back into the yard.

The only improvements I would make is a little more power so it doesn’t bog down in tall grass, and a better mechanism to attach the discharge chute for the clippings (although having them mulch straight down is fine too; but having the option to shoot out the side without it falling off would be better.

).

Most homeowners with bigger yards use riders, but still need a push mower for trim work (inside corners and tight spaces not reachable with a riding mower and areas too big for a weed trimmer). Surprising that more companies don’t acknowledge this.

And, self propelled ads more weight, plus many of those can’t back up like you need to for trim work. This mower is best available for trim work but it could be better. If Honda wants to corner the market for trim mowers, they should make a 20” push mower with the polycarbonate body and 8” ball bearing wheels on all 4 corners, with no bagger or self propelled.

Just think, a 40 lb. trim mower as light as a feather, easier to push than any other mower by a mile. They would sell thousands of them.

This is a great mower, one of the best I’ve ever used and I’ve used many different brands. Never did like self-propelled mowers in the past but this thing is a dream to mow with. This will mow up the steep embankment in front of my house with no problem and when you’re coming back down the hill and stop at the bottom the drive engages and acts like a brake.

I can walk alongside of it while it mows on the side embankment which is not as tall. Reading some of the reviews it’s obvious there are a lot of people that do not know how to mow grass. This thing mulches great if you don’t try to cut four or five inches off the top of your grass.

You’re only supposed to mow a third the height of your grass at a time while mulching. I live in South Florida where it rains just about every afternoon this time of year so I have to cut my grass while it is still wet and I’ve never had a problem with it clogging while bagging or clumping while mulching.

second notch from the highest position. One time I noticed clumping coming out of the back of the mower but it was operator error because I did not flip the lever from bag to mulch. I did spray underneath the deck and the top of the mower and all the plastic with some Sta-bil ceramic coating and nothing sticks to it at all.

I tried cutting some thick 12-in plus high grass in the field next to my house set on the second notch from the highest setting and it mowed it with no problem if I went at a reasonable pace for that height of grass.

I have no trouble turning it like I’ve seen in some reviews and the control of the self-propelled system is amazingly smooth. I’ve had no resistance while pulling it backwards, you just have to make sure that you have the drive handle pulled back.

And with the motor not running it pushes like any other mower that’s not self-propelled. The ability to change from mulch to bagging is a great feature. I have some areas in my backyard that I haven’t seeded and gotten some nice grass to grow that has sand spurs, so when I get to those areas I can bag and collect the spurs so I don’t spread them around.

Then switch back to mulch so the mulch will help suppress the weeds in some bare spots. The rubber flap on the back of the deck can be a pain when you’re trying to move it in the folded position but I guess you could always remove that if you find it a big enough problem.

The one thing I read in some of the reviews that I have to agree with is the front end does get light when the bag starts to get full but then I’ve had other mowers that have done the same thing that had a high capacity bag.

When I empty the bag into a garbage can it fills a 20 gallon can about 3/4 of the way without packing it down. It’s great how fine it mulches the grass and leaves. If you use the grass as a mulch in your garden or around your plants it will break down much quicker.

I don’t have that many leaves but if you have heavy leaf cover on your lawn I believe this mower would do a great job at picking them up and mulching them into a fine mulch. The adjustable height of the handle comes in very handy.

I use it in the high position normally because that’s more comfortable for me and then use the lower position when I’m pushing it up hills so the handles not as high and also when the bag starts to fill so it’s easier to slightly lift to keep the front end down.

And for the people that try to compare a newer mower with an older 5 or 6 horsepower motor it’s just not an equal comparison thanks to the EPA and CARB regulations the manufacturers have to meet. The new motors are jetted so lean that sometimes it causes a problem that the main jet clogs and the motor won’t run.

There is an easy fix that I found on YouTube but would take some mechanical knowledge to perform. I have about 4 hours on my mower and have not had any problems using non-ethanol gas and fuel treatment.

To me this is the only choice for a good quality mower because some of the other mowers have plastic pieces on the front and back where the wheels are mounted to the metal deck. Some of them have problems with the wheels actually falling off.

Even the so-called best brand mower has had problems with their new engines. So to sum things up, I think this is the best mower to buy if you want a quality mower that has parts available if needed.

And if you’re thinking about an electric mower think about this. you can buy a whole motor for this mower for less money than some of the batteries cost that you will have to replace in probably under 5 years and that’s if you charge them properly and take good care of them.

I’m 62 so this is definitely the last mower I will ever buy.

I purchased this to replace an early 2000’s Lawn-Boy with similar features. I was choosing between the Toro 21465 or the Honda HRN216VKA. To begin with, I just used the Toro 21465 on March 20 2022 for the first scalping.

Our grass is just starting to green-up, so I was cutting dormant grass and my first observations are that it started on the first pull every time and is pretty light and easy to maneuver. I am accustomed to the personal pace feature and it is great to me.

It’ll go as fast or as slow as I need it, and I am not using my back to push. My spouse tried it out and she was very pleased with the reduced effort as well. The bagging attachment worked well and is easy to install, remove and empty when it is full.

Another carry over from the Lawn-Boy is the wheel adjustment, each wheel is adjusted independently. It is simple with not a lot of moving parts and I am accustomed to it but I’m ambivalent and might have liked to move one leaver for both front or rear wheels which probably would have added weight and more moving parts.

I also noticed the trailing shield would flip under on occasion which is not a big deal but it did happen. A factor in buying this machine and a feature that I really like is that the handle can be adjusted for comfort and storage.

The handle can be folded forward flat, which is what I wanted and it’ll tuck into a corner horizontally on all four wheels. I am not going to store it vertically. I didn’t use the side discharge yet which was sent by request when I registered it.

I am mowing Bermuda grass on mostly level terrain and mulching most of the time. An annoyance when I first purchased the mower was the bagging attachment was not packed in the box. It was irritating but the retailer that I purchased it from replaced it immediately.

Toro also offered to get one out to me as well when I emailed them to vent off. When I started shopping for a new mower I didn’t know anyone with either the Toro or the Honda so I relied on online reviews, independent dealers, youtube videos and personal experience with the Lawn-Boy.

A repeating theme with the Honda was carburetor issues which was confirmed by a local dealer service dept. I think it’s hit or miss because some reviews for the Honda were scathing or favorable. Coincidentally this mower has had a couple of moments where it sputtered and the RPM’s dipped for a moment like it was going to stall but didn’t.

I am hoping this is not a sign of future failure. Most of the reviews for the Toro were good but a couple were damming just like the Honda. I think the Honda might have been fine but I am glad I purchased the Toro 21465 and I am looking forward to years of easy mowing.

The Toro 21465 rolls easily and cuts well so far and fits in my storage location under a shelf out of the way.

I had the older model personal pace for 6 years and absolutely loved it. It started to deteriorate so i replaced it with this newer model. The newer model is nice but feels very cheap. Im not sure if its the difference in materials used or what, but definitely dosent feel as sturdy as the older model.

I also didn’t realize until after purchase that it does not come with a side discharge chute. Their website states the reasoning is that their research shows most customers bag their grass, im curious as to what research was done for that because i dont know a single person who bags and my local municipality dosent offer yard waste pickup.

They do however offer an adapter that connects to the bagging chute to make it side discharge, which i have ordered (takes 8 weeks for delivery, so i guess ill probably have it in time for next season) but thats just an additional piece that i now will have to keep track off.

As with the the last model and the primary reason for buying this unit is the personal pace. I do very much like how the faster you push it the faster it goes. Other manufacturers offer this option but it is a adjustable dial whereas the Toro has a sliding handle so the faster you push it the faster it goes.

All in all it is definitely a nice model with nice price point.

This is my third Honda mower and my second self-propelled model. My previous Honda mowers are still in service, given away to other people, and they were used HARD. This model is absolutely the best one that I have owned.

The engineering, features, and reliability of Honda mowers is superb. I have only one specific quibble with this model: they only include one key here in Canada. If you lose that key, you can’t even pull start the mower.

The ignition switch has to be in the “On” position for the mower to start. You can order an extra key for less than seven dollars Canadian, but come on Honda, for the price you charge, you should include two keys.

My general quibble with Honda mowers, in general, is the difficulty in changing oil. You have to elevate the mower to be able to tip it over far enough to drain the oil. I used to deadlift my previous Honda onto my workbench in the garage to do that chore and then try to hold the mower and the oil receptacle to catch the oil.

This model weighs 106 lbs. and I will soon be 70, so I purchased auto ramps for that chore. There really should be a convenient oil drain plug, even if underneath the mower deck. Apart from those quibbles, I highly recommend this Honda mower and Honda mowers in general.

I have a Honda HSS928CTD snow blower and it too is a great machine and easy to change the oil, but draining the gas for storage is a pain. It can take over an hour to drain the gas from the tank, if full, using the gas drain screw.

I bought a lithium-ion pump to pump out almost all of the gas, before resorting to the gas drain screw.

I love this mower and actually look forward to mowing! The self-propelled feature is the best I have ever used, it pulls smoothly up a bank and has a good range of speeds. Set at wide open I am not able to keep up with it, but I do have short legs lol.

At first, I questioned if I would like a mower deck that wasn’t made of metal, I thought it would look and feel “cheap”. I was wrong. The material it is made of makes cleaning grass from beneath the deck a breeze and makes the mower lighter which I am sure adds to the smoothness of being self-propelled.

The winning feature for me in deciding to purchase this mower was the bag/mulch feature. During the main mowing season, I prefer to bag my grass and use it in a compost pile or spread it around my plants.

Later in the season, I mulch to prepare the ground for the winter season. The double blades really cut the grass into fine pieces, which is great for mulching your grass. Unfortunately, now that it is mulching season, I have discovered that even though the knob moves from bag to mulch, the “door” beneath the deck that redirects the grass clippings to go back onto the yard instead of into the bag does not move.

I would have thought that a mower this nice and this expensive would have been inspected prior to being boxed up and shipped out to be sold. This is my only real disappointment in this mower.

Functionally, I like this mower a lot. It pulls a little faster than mowers I’ve used in the past and I like the pace. Catcher works fine, I have the gift of a lot of leaves from a neighbor’s tree and it does a pretty good job of picking them up.

Now the reason for 2 stars: the carburetor is garbage! Barely had it a month when I had the first problem. Took to authorized service where they removed and cleaned it. I only use ethanol free fuel and keep the gas can and mower inside.

Apparently there was some degree of condensation that killed the carb. Since the carburetor is specifically excluded from warranty, it cost me $100! It ran for several months before having the same issue.

Had it removed and cleaned again. In the interim, I had bought another mower at an auction. The next time the carb fouled out again, I parked it and started using the other mower. I just bought a replacement carburetor, but it’s the same plastic junk as the original part.

It’s running again, but I know it’s temporary. I usually expect 5 years or so out of a self propelled mower, but I see this one being rolled to the road for a junk man to pick up and go see if I can find a mower with an engine that has something better than that junk plastic carb.

Too bad warranty doesn’t include refund of a defective design.

Had to take backthe first one as even a slight incline would shut it down. Got the second and all was good till it refused to start. Thought it was the carb. Had a 3 week period during late summer where it sat idle.

When I tried to start, nothing. Took apart the carb think maybe trash got in, cleaned in, but didn’t see anything. Put the same gas back in, and it ran fine fir two mows. Sat idle for another week and wouldn’t run again, cleaned again but would only run for a few seconds and quit.

Took it to a place toro had listed in case it needed warranty repair. The shop said they should not have been on the list anymore, but they took a look at it for me. Only charged $16 but said water in the carb.

Same gas (87, less than 10% ethanol ad the manual says) from the same can that currently runs in a riding mower, and mixed for a weed trimmer, leaf blower, and chain saw that all still run fine. But seemes to be working for now.

Moisture getting in to the tank? The gas lid has never really felt very tight on the tank with only something like a quarter to half turn to tighten it.

I am happy with the features and performance of this mower so far, but I am frustrated with the lack of important information in the Quick Start Guide. My frustration comes from the fact that the Quick Start Guide does not indicate the amount of oil that should be added to the engine before first use.

I would say it is even misleading because it shows a bottle of oil being poured in and the bottle of oil contains 32 oz. There is no indication that the capacity of the engine is only 15oz. It is very difficult to see the oil level on the dipstick when the oil is completely clean.

Why does Toro supply a quart of oil without indicating you should only use less than half of it? I don’t see anything in the QSG that suggests you don’t use the full bottle of oil. So, I think Toro needs to fix this as soon as possible to prevent inadvertently overfilling the engine with oil.

I bought the Stihl RMA 460 lawn mower to replace a dying 12-year-old battery-powered mower. The included AK 30 battery could only get me about 75% through mowing my lawn (about 40 minutes of run time using the full-speed setting), so I bought a second battery.

I like that the mower can carry an extra battery making it easy to switch to a fresh one during mowing. Fully charging a single battery using the included AL 101 charger has taken about two hours, sometimes less.

The RMA 460 is much lighter than my previous lead-acid battery mower, and it is easy to push and maneuver. Mowing quality is excellent (mulching so far – I have not tried the bag and don’t use side discharge).

I wish it was a little quieter, but the noise isn’t too bad – no worse, maybe better, than my previous battery mower, and certainly much quieter than a gas-engine mower. Build quality seems quite good, though I’d prefer it to be manufactured or assembled in the USA, like some other Stihl products, instead of China.

Overall, I’m very happy with this mower.

Wife purchased this for a Christmas gift last December. Needless to say didn’t use it till this spring. We have approximately 4400sqft. Had one battery, only did about half the yard using the self propelled feature.

Standard charger up to 3hrs to charge. Purchased a second battery thinking that would do the rest of yard. Not using the self propelled feature and still couldn’t get the yard done. Trip to Weldy’s where my wife purchased the mower.

Tom checked the batteries, tested great. Tom gave me a rapid charger. Still taking almost 2 hrs to mow the yard. Tom stated this mower should do 4700sqft. Not even close. Now to the product it self. Cuts grass with no problem unless it’s really high.

Raise and lower the deck setting is very easy. Quality of the mower is the same as any of the other Stihl products We have purchased in the past. Just wished the wife would have waited till I went with her.

Great product for a small yard.

Firstly I would like to say I am a big fan of Stihl products and have a full range of trimmers, blowers & chainsaws. I have owned the 510 mower for 14 months now, I have 2 x AP 300 S Pro Batteries and 1 x AP 200 Pro Battery & the AL 300 Charger.

I have had the blade sharpened at my local stihl shop once about 4 months ago. For the first 6 months I was very impressed with the mower, swore I would never go back to petrol. But over the past 3 months things have started to go wrong.

The battery cover hinges have broken, and as this cover is opened and closed often, not sure why the hinges are not steel or at least a stronger plastic. The plastic hand screws used to fold the handle down have both broken, but I have only folded it 3 times and the sponge handle grip has split on both ends where it curves around the handle bar.

The mower is stored in a shed when not in use, so not exposed to the sun. Also I have a 900 sqm lawn which I have mown exactly 21 times, for the first 9 mows I could trim the edges of the lawn using the AP 200 Battery and mow the lawn fully with one AP 300 S Pro Battery.

Then on the 10th or 11th mow I found I had to stop and charge the AP 300 S Pro Battery to complete the mow. I brought a second AP 300 S Pro Battery so I could complete the lawn without stopping, which was fine until about the 17th mow.

Now even with 3 fully charged batteries, I cannot complete my lawn with out stopping to recharge batteries, and don’t really want to buy a forth battery. It appears that the batteries loose their capacity to store electricity quite quickly, or perhaps the motors wear out not sure.

Unfortunately I am now looking at going back to petrol mower.

Assembly and instructions are easily understood. After first mowing session electric vs gas learning curve is complete. First use was deliberately setup as the ultimate stress test and it passed receiving a (B) grade.

Stress test consisted of: Deck height second to lowest Side chute discharge and no bag First mow of 2022 Grass height 5-6″ Grass estimated 50% wet Leaves saturated and compacted from snow Overall very pleased with purchase Design deficiencies with suggested improvements: 1.

After battery is depleted mower stops suddenly without and warning. Battery just beeps a few times then zero power. 1A: Incorporate LED battery level indicator into speed control button housing. Set a 5% battery reserve to power drive wheels only.

2. Rear plastic plug for side chute discharge has large gaps. Large gaps allow significant amount of clippings to accumulate behind plug. 2A. Improve plastic plug tolerances to eliminate gaps. I’m going to try Gorilla tape on inside of deck to cover up the gaps.

3. Rear drive wheels anti-rollback one second safety brake seems unnecessary, rips up lawn and a PITA! 3A. Unless the brake a legally required safety feature get rid of it or install potentiometer that detects if mowing surface is flat or on a hill at an angle.

4. While this mower is MUCH quieter than a gas mower it’s louder than expected. 4A. Suggest double insulating motor to decrease loudness. Tear apart a multipurpose wet/dry shop vacuum to see how they reduced loudness.

This might read to some of you as harsh criticism of a first generation electric mower but I assure you its not. I just happen to be a design nut and like to point out opportunities for improvement whenever I can.

To prove my point I recently purchased an Atlas 40/80 Line Trimmer and an Atlas 40/80 blower. Both of which I found to be excellent and vastly superior the the old plug in (non Harbor Freight) types I used for many years.

IšverstiShow in original languageI am pleasantly surprised that this cordless electric self propelled mower can easily and evenly cut and mulch the thickest Florida St. Augustine grass, and it doesn’t stall like a gasoline internal combustion powered mower.

It is rather quiet, and about 1/4th as loud and noisy as an internal combustion motor. The wheel propulsion motor and the blade motor are separately controlled manually with handle controls. After the battery is mounted (or two batteries are mounted) in the battery chamber, and the safety key is inserted between the batteries, the mower will self propel even though the blade motor has not been started or engaged using the push button starter.

There is a sequence to starting the blade motor and I had to call the support line to figure it out. Press and hold the starter button and then squeeze the hand control lever facing toward the mower bed; and, after the blade motor starts, release the starter button and continue holding the hand control lever to keep the blade motor engaged.

The mower is packaged using tape around the handles holding the wheel driven propulsion at the ON position. Beware. If you don’t remove the tape on the handles which are squeezing the wheel motor control lever, then, when you insert the batteries (and the safety key is already inserted in place) the mower will take off in whatever direction it is pointed.

While operating the mower to cut grass, you need to release the wheel drive hand lever about a foot before where you want to stop (before the tree trunk or shrub), and it is a little difficult manually to pull the mower backwards.

It takes some practice if you are accustomed to using a personal-pace mower. It remains to be seen how durable this mower will be in the long run. I bought the extended warranty. I think you have 30 days to decide on warranty.

IšverstiShow in original languageI have had this mower for almost 1 year and I love it. It cuts with the same efficiency of a gas mower. I looked around and compared electric mowers and reviews before deciding on this one and I am not disappointed.

I bought the self propelled mower, two 80v batteries and two regular chargers (the rapid ones were sold out at the time). I also have the trimmer, blower and hedger. I mow with both batteries in the mower.

I have an average sized yard and I always mow my front and side yard without the propeller to save on battery power then I use the self propelled feature when I reach the back yard. When Im finished mowing the entire yard one battery is dead and the other has 3/4 charge, enough for me to trim and use the blower.

I am able to complete the entire yard with no breaks even after a year of using the same batteries. I’ve read other reviews where users have complained about battery power and the life of the batteries.

Here is what I think contributes to the long life of my batteries: I don’t have the rapid chargers (although they were sold out I think it was a blessing in disguise), when charging Ive noticed the batteries are actually fully charged before the indicator notifies you (for example the light is still blinking but if I unplug and plug it back in to an outlet I get a solid green light, which means the battery was fully charged and possibly overcharging.

I noticed this early on so I usually pay close attention and check the batteries often when Im charging. ), lastly I have thick grass so I lift the deck up to #2 so the mower doesn’t have to work so hard.

I hope the battery tip helps someone out. The 80v batteries are expensive and I wanted to find a way to prolong their life as much as possible.

This is my third Toro Personal pace mower, with each having lasted 7- 8 years. This mower doesn’t have my last one’s side discharge opening [I’m still waiting on my side discharge chute promised during my registration process], nor the blade stop feature-allowing for easier start and keeps engine running while dumping bag,etc, and lastly no hose connection for top deck water flush/cleaning.

However, the increased engine power [159 to 163cc] and vortex intake do appear to create an improved mulching process, even in heavier lawn growth. Also, the loss of the blade stop feature has noticeably reduced the mower’s weight, making it much easier to maneuver and start [since it stops if changing out the bag].

As for the water hose connection, I noticed around year 6-7 the deck was beginning to show the signs of rust from the water use at this connection point. As for the side discharge ability, I cannot comment on their new rear side-discharge chute design yet, since I still do not have it to use [a must when falling behind on mowing and the grass is too tall/thick to mulch with single pass].

Overall, this is a strong performer that still exhibits the “I want to cut grass” performance I’ve grown to expect in Toro’s Personal Pace mower. The improved steering wheel design improves the already nice gripe with its insulation from engine vibration, and responsive self-drive speeds.

The larger sized rear drive wheels and front wheels and new tread design appear to reduce “trenching” when on moist lawn sod and have improved turning/handling too. I would recommend this style mower and suggest you not purchase the lower powered versions.

The engine noise is muffled well and gas consumption is also good [I still can mow all by yard areas in about 2ish hours with under a single fill]. Why 4 of 5, the loss of side discharge design and blade stop ability [although the resulting weight loss is a positive].

Honest review after multi cuts of 1/4 acre extreme sloped back yard and flat front yard. Personal pace feature gets the nod. There is a learning curve at first but you dictate the pace so cut times will take a little longer.

Handle is ergonomic. With my other self-propels, it dictated the pace so I had to keep up…better fitness with the old mower, but more room for injury when tired. The 163cc mulch is fine for dry grass, but any dew and it will feel like a 150cc with 3 or 4 stalls on the slope and a multiple manual clear of the mush of grass from the underbody.

I would recommend getting the AWD instead of just the RWD if a semi-major slope is involved when you are forced uphill at times. All said, it starts right up and handle assembly was simple. Rear wheels are great for larger bumps with the height and turns are easy.

Fantastic fuel efficiency if grass is completely dry.

This is the first mower I have ever heard of that doesn’t require you to change the oil. Just add as needed. First push mower I’ve purchased in probably 15 years. I paid $350 at Tractor supply. Mower doesn’t perform well in wet, thick grass.

Mainly because the port from the mower deck to the bag gets plugged up easily. It comes with the bag which is a reason I bought it to keep the clippings for my herbivores. When I registered they sent me a side chute for free.

It hooks to the same place the bag hooks to. Chute goes out the back and to the left side. Thank God because it’s needed if you want to cut grass that is tall. The personal pace feature makes it really easy to push.

Wheels adjust like any other walk behind I’ve ever used. It’s new and cuts nicely, easy to use, only thing I don’t like is the stalling in thicker grass even with the chute attached. No complaints other than that though.
