20 Best Self Cleaning Litter Box For Cats (2023 Updated)

I bought this after undergoing complicated surgery that left me unable to clean my cat’s regular litter box. I live in a small apartment with one pretty big cat, and the Pura Max has been a lifesaver.

Delivery was super prompt and friendly, and the driver very kindly brought the unit all the way into my bathroom when i explained that i couldn’t life heavy objects. Pros: only need to change the litter once a week, the app tracks my cat’s weight and habits, I’m using way less litter with this unit, and things are generally tidy.

Cons: the unit wasn’t cheap, it’s quite bulky, so space can be a bit of an issue, and the app can be temperamental. The unit comes with a Petkit automatic deodoriser that my cat hated, but it was easy to disconnect and we haven’t had a problem since.

I will have a future saving in not needing to purchase deodoriser refills. The litter bags are included, but I’ve experimented with other, cheaper bags and litter tray liners, which all fit and work well, so I likely won’t be buying the more expensive Petkit branded litter bags in future.

All in all, a good investment if you have the means and you’re confident that your cat is adaptable to a new litter system.

I have two 6-month old cats who wherr used to 3 litter boxes. One cat took to using just one Pura Max straight away. The other cat used it happily for a week and then went on strike! I brought back the old box, but then the other cat started using the old box as well.

Which was annoying! Also. The difficult cat is the kind of cat the wees in one box and poops in the other! I tried stopping the auto clean, and the deodorizer, but nothing worked. Once I got a second pura max, they both happily use both boxes each day.

No issues. It was quite an expense, but it works better with two I think because the cats don’t know it’s self-cleaning (and is therefore always clean), they just think that there’s only one litter box (which must have been too much going from 3 boxes to 1!) Anyway, I have occasionally had a few issues with the app (losing ‘working records’) and the instructions are a bit vague.

For example – use maintenance mode to add litter as the opening tilts up so it’s easier…and always calibrate afterwards! (in the app). But I love the app for the fact that I know what the cats weigh, which is helpful for figuring out food portions for my growing kitties!!! All in all… Haven’t looked back! :).

So we bought a refurbished Petkit Pura Max litterbox. We knew going into it that, as with all refurbished items, there’s a 50/50 chance you’ll end up with a problematic item. We rolled the dice. and lost.

It was a gamble we were willing to take because we had bought a different brand but similar one when they first came on the market and our 1 cat was TERRIFIED of it and wouldn’t even step into the basement laundry room where it was located once she saw it rotate to clean.

It went back immediately. This time we were desperate – cat #3 was peeing all over upstairs and I refused to put a litter box in the space where we live/spend most of our time unless it scooped itself.

So if this one didn’t scare cat #3 and she used it, and my upstairs didnt smell like a cat box. win. So: win? Yeah, sort of. :)We programmed it to self-clean a full 15 mins after use. It does. And it’s not stinky if we empty it every 3-4 days.

And SHE USES IT and has stopped peeing all over upstairs (she’s apparently suddenly and unexplainably freaked out by having to descend a set of stairs into the finished basement to use the box there.

ugh). So, that’s awesome!! The other two cats are freaked out by it and won’t use it so they still go downstairs. Fine. Good, actually. But it still has the problem it was originally returned for: it occasionally thinks there’s a cat in the box when there isn’t, and either (1) won’t clean, or (2) stops mid-clean.

And there it sits permanently frozen, in both cases, until we power down for an hour or so to reset it. Sounds simple enough, and it is, if we (1) notice it (it isn’t in my living room or other super common area) or (2) are even in town to notice.

The latter became a problem and the cat peed everywhere and ruined plenty of stuff for several days last summer when it happened. (scream)Not cool. But again, we didn’t want to spend $500 on a cat box that no one would use, so it was a calculated gamble.

We instead spent $250 and got what we got. When it works, it’s amazing. And when it doesn’t, at least we know what to do. We added cameras in the room and the ability to reset the power remotely now (only takes one time, ha!) so we can now keep our eye on it from out of town.

That’s admittedly kind of BS, but it is what it is. Yes, we reached out to customer service and they were all, “your sensors are dirty. ” No, they’re not, but thanks, anyway. The only downside to the unit when it functions properly is that it’s pretty unforgivable after 3-4 days: you HAVE TO empty the bin or you have big problems.

This isn’t a procrastinators cat box at all. I’d recommend it if your cat doesn’t get freaked out by it. Only 1 out of 3 cats in our house doesn’t, so the ratio isn’t great, but I’m satisfied there given what we were up against.

I bought one of these in mid July to hopefully eliminate some of the smell and mess associated with the cats litter box. Our cat was used to going into an enclosure as we had her old tray in a box. Even still it took about 3 weeks before she would use this Loo.

I had to lock her in her play enclosure without any other options for 2 weeks to convince her to use it consistently. Now that she is using it she often wees with her head facing the back of the drum, half her wee sprays out and runs down the front.

The issue with this is the front of the box is not water proof at all. The wee runs into the button (now broken) and also fills the slide out draw (the part you keep the spare bags). I often have the wee running along the floor through the tile grout.

Smarty Pears support was very responsive and sent a replacement button but there is nothing to stop same issue again. The amount of wee I had to clean out of the enclose to replace the button was insane.

For now, I have purchased clear vinyl wrap to cover the button and part of the enclosure to hopefully seal it a little. The enclosure is not a completely smooth surface so I’m not sure the vinyl is going to remain stuck once exposed to the wee, time will tell.

Not every cat will face inward when using this box but I’m surprised at how badly this device is compromised if any wee escapes. The slot the button sits in was completely full of wee submerging the bottom of the circuit board.

When the cat dose get it right and all the business ends up in the drum, I’m happy with how it all works. As long as you empty the bag when it tells you I have found the smell to be heaps better that the old litter box and I love not having to scoop litter.

I researched all of the robot litter boxes I could find before deciding on Leo’s Loo Too. I chose it because of the larger waste drawer and the uv sterilization, and the overall design. It came assembled and basically ready to use out of the box.

It is very quiet, easy to take apart to clean, and most importantly it is very safe! It immediately stops a cleaning cycle if it senses movement in the box of any kind. The ease draw traps odor well.

I have multiple rescue cats and both large (Maine coon) and small cats use it. Not everyone is a fan, but I have multiple litter boxes around the house anyway so it is not a big deal. I would eventually like to replace them all with Leo’s Loo Too.

I have friends who own another brand and they have had multiple issues with litter falling out during cleaning and even had a cat chew through a power cord. Leos loo has a very sturdy cord and I have not had any litter come close to falling onto the floor while cleaning.

I do recommend testing the box after adding litter because I had added too much and a good bit went into the waste tray when I did a test cycle. Heavier litter works the best and helps to reduce any litter waste.

I have 3 cats using this one box and in the few weeks I’ve had it I’ve only had to empty it 3 times and add a small amount of litter back each time. Overall I highly recommend this box, and it does come with a 90 day trial if you want some time to test it.

I hope to purchase a few more as my budget allows.

Do not roll it completely upside down, as that sometimes causes the grate to come loose from the bottom. I’ve learned this from experience. Roll it nearly upside down, pound on the bottom to get the clumps loose, roll it back right side up and then a bit to the left to get the clean litter back into the main section.

I have three cats so need to clean the box at least twice a day. “Self-cleaning” is a bit of a misnomer, as it needs a little help from you–it “cleans itself” but only if you roll it over. In other words, it “scoops itself”.

So in that way I prefer this litter box to having to do the scooping myself. Scooping it yourself gets it cleaner than rolling it, but rolling is good enough for me and my cats. Pros: quick and easy to roll over and collect the clumps in the scoop; all you have to do is dump the scoop.

(Note that you need to bang on the bottom of it when it’s rolled over to get some of the clumps to let loose from the bottom. ) Generally keeps the smell inside the litter box. Some people have had trouble with the clips, but they all work well for me as long as you have the top and bottom lined up correctly.

Cons: the scoop is an inch shorter than it used to be for the large box, and therefore sometimes doesn’t collect the clumps at the back of the box, so I tip it slightly forward before completing the roll over.

Why did they shorten it an inch? My theory is that they wanted to manufacture just one size scoop for both the large and regular boxes, and if so, it’s a stupid decision for the large box.

I have a bad back and scooping litter is really hard on me. This box is a great concept, but a failure in its execution. I’d love for this company to work on these details and make their concept actually work well.

The “roll n clean” concept has 3 essential components: the grate, the hood, and the “poop drawer. ” But the grate doesn’t snap into place tightly, and every couple of rolls it comes out of place, requiring me to put on gloves and plunge my hands into dirty litter to reposition.

GROSS. Likewise the latches that secure the hood to the litterbox are difficult to fasten, and it seems only a matter of time before they break. And finally the poop drawer fits into its slot so poorly, you’d think it wasn’t made to go there.

Did they give me the right part? Yes, it’s just really shoddily made. This is where all the clumps of poop are going, and you don’t want it falling open and leaking (which it does, frequently). Again, if these components were improved it would be a great idea.

However, I will also add that my kittens come out of this box smelling poopy, even if they haven’t pooped. I think they are rubbing against the hood, which catches all the clumps when you roll it, and sometimes ends up with poop stuck to it.

This is very unpleasant. Maybe the hood should be higher and made of a nonstick material?.

I got a new cat from a shelter 2 days ago and looked for all the new gimmicky items I couldn’t afford before. Found this and thought how unique! Its 3:30 in the am, couldn’t sleep, so up putting this together, cleaning his food bowl, etc.

Well, I might still be tired, and addled brained, but some things don’t make sense, so I am sending it back. 1. ) no handle on top, difficult to pick up with sharp plastic to grip 2. ) plastic will be flimsy over time, why its so sharp 3.

) When you roll it over onto its right side, the used particles are supposed to fall thru vent into disposable cup. Well, now, cup distends down from roof, vent system is below it, and the used litter is underneath it.

Smart design, huh? 4. ) Read all the comments, and disagreed with the 4 or 5 star reviews, someone must be kidding themselves. I have had 50 years of experience with cats and littler boxes, from dirt in a cardboard box, don’t attemt by the way, to the last, the electric sweeper, spent over $100 for my last cat, till she peed in the trench, which made the clay become like cement, and nothing except TNT would have gotten it out, along with the plastic sides!! So now I am going to look over the market and see what other new ideas have emerged in the past 15 years.

I had high hopes for this litter box, but I’m disappointed. I watched a video first before buying it, and it seemed perfect. However, the material and design definitely needs improving. The plastic is too cheap, and the filter does not stay in place when rolling it over! If I only roll it a little more than half way, it works.

If I roll it over to get everything, the filter pops out and its a big mess. So I’m rolling it only as far as I can so that doesn’t happen, but I have to regular scoop out what doesn’t go into the bin.

I can’t believe the makers of this litter box didn’t make the filter snap in tightly. When I put the thing together and saw how loosely the filter fit in, I was concerned, but I thought that it must still work.

But no, I had to clean up a big mess. I did decide to experiment with how far over to roll it, like I mentioned. I was trying to find that video again so I could see how far they rolled it over. I really like the idea of this litter box, but they need to make it work better!.

I read a lot of reviews on this before we purchased. a lot of them talked about how a lot of the plastic does not line up. I found a similar issues with the pulling basket but as far as the whole container lining up and locking it worked fine.

overall we have been very happy with this product. it’s very easy to flip side to side and then have the poo Fall into the basket. sometimes little poos get stuck in the strainer but they usually get kicked back and then picked up the next time.

I will say that we did buy the large size. I see there is a smaller regular size, I can’t imagine the litter space being smaller. this has worked well for my one cat however with the litter space being small I think I’m going to look for something else for when i have two cats.

we clean the box every other day and it’s a much easier, less messy job, except when the kitty litter still falls on the ground. The cat had no issue adjusting to this new litter box.

My cat is on the larger side for cats. He isn’t a fat cat, he is just very large and muscular. Because my cat is a bit bigger, it also means everything else he does is bigger too (If you know what I mean).

That being said, I’m constantly looking for litter boxes and litter that just make the job easier for me to clean up after my adorable fuzzy friend. I felt that the PetSafe Deluxe Crystal Litter Box System was a decent system.

The litter box itself is a standard box but it has odor control vents on the sides as well as holes on the bottom under where the litter goes with a tray to add a pad to soak the excess cat urine. The litter box also features an anti tracking surface at the entrance of the litter box.

The litter system also comes with perfectly portioned bag of PetSafe Crystal Litter for the box. Prior to using this system I had only used traditional clumping cat litter and was not used to using the Crystal Litter.

I have found that the Crystal litter is pretty good at catching moisture from my cats solids, however most of the urine seems to end up in the bottom wet pad. Crystal Litter is also supposed to be better at odor control, however since the Crystals don’t seem to catch most of the urine, there is a large urine odor that comes from the box after approximately 1 week.

I do understand my cat is bigger, however the company states that the litter system only needs daily solid scooping before needing to change the pad and litter after approximately one month for a single cat.

As for the box itself, I wish the litter box was larger because it is quite cramped for my cat. My cat also doesn’t use the anti tracking surface as he just jumps right over the side so the litter crystals end up on the floor anyways but I did not deduct points for crystals being on the floor because I’m already pretty used to that after owning cats my whole life! I would, however prefer that instead of the anti tracking surface (since it doesn’t seem to be used at all) the box was bigger so my cat would have more room to do his business comfortably.

Overall, If this litter box was larger, it would be pretty standard as a litter box and I would recommend it to people looking for a litter box for their cat.

PetSafe Deluxe Crystal Litter Box System It took a few days to convince my cats to use a new litter box, but once they did, they really liked the PetSafe deluxe crystal cat litter box system. The cat litter is made of crystals and it’s so unique in appearance.

I found that interesting, and I was really happy when I realized that it scoops away easily, too. I also thought it was helpful that the litter box came with everything I needed to set it up and use it, including the pad for the slide-out tray underneath the ventilation grid, a bag of crystal cat litter, and a scoop with a little adhesive-backed hook for mounting.

Since I have more than one cat, I expect to change the littler more often than the recommended once a month for single-cat homes. My favorite feature so far is that I haven’t noticed any odor whatsoever after my cats use the crystal litter box system.

The pad that slides into a thin tray under the grate that holds the litter is another feature I thought was kind of cool and different. It catches the few droplets of liquid waste that filter through before the crystal cat litter can absorb it, so the pad can be tossed and replaced.

While I haven’t had to change mine yet, I think it’s nice that there’s an extra way to ensure there aren’t any odors from the litter box, and it seems to work because I haven’t noticed any smell from it.

The directions said to get rid of solid waste every day if using the box for a single cat, but with more than one cat, I do check the litter box a couple of times a day to make sure it stays fresh smelling.

Having the little scoop mounted right there on the side of the box makes it super easy to keep up with cleaning it. One last thing I really appreciate about the PetSafe deluxe crystal cat litter box is the grid on the front edge that catches the bits of cat litter my cats pick up in their toes, so they don’t track litter all over the floor.

Bought in July and have had to purchase 5 litter boxes due to inefficent box design. Had to buy 5 replacement boxes since bought in July to November. Clumps up in end where fecal matter is to be stored so rake does ot distribute crystal evenly.

Crystals cling to cat’s feet and distribute throughout house. Had to separate food and water dishes from product to avoid crystals getting into them. Rather an expensive trial for 4 months use. Would not buy again.

On arrival, the product was unable to be connected to wifi due to an error with the serial number being blacklisted for god knows what reason (straight out of the box! mind you we purchased it from Petso, a proper retailer) but has since been fixed through catlink customer service.

The nightmare didn’t end there. 1. The litter box safety features do not engage when the cleaning cycle is in process. Radar detection does not appear to work, neither does increased engine resistance due to weight of cat nor does the infrared.

This is a significant safety issue as I do not feel comfortable leaving the device unattended. 10 safety features? The device we got had none! 2. The auto cleaning function also does not work. Again, I’m assuming this relates back to the sensor malfunction but regardless of how much time has elapsed after the cat has used the litter box, it fails to engage in automatic cleaning.

We have ensured the app is not in ‘Do not Disturb’ and that all steps have been followed. E. g. the wait time after a cat leaves, doesn’t matter if it is 1,3 or 5 minutes. We have tried all the troubleshooting steps provided by catlink.

3. The machine weight sensors cannot be calibrated following Catlink’s instruction. The machine cannot register if the cat enters the litterbox, and is unable to determine the weight of the cat. Mind you, we have also followed all steps as instructed and have correctly linked the cat profile with the device through the Catlink App.

For the amount of money they charge for the device, I would expect it to work straight out of the box and not have multiple sensors malfunctioning. Catlink’s customer service is reasonable so far, but the manual that came with the machine was terribly written.

Often we got told to try something that’s different to the troubleshooting steps on manual by Catlink. This machine is simply not fit for purpose and had not even worked one day since day one. I purchased this device because we don’t have time to deal with the litter.

This machine has wasted much more of my time than a manual litterbox. Absolutely would not recommend it. Even one star is being too generous. I was originally going to buy their feed bow and water fountain.

Sure, I might have gotten a lemon, but the experience so far certainly does not inspire any confidence for me to purchase any other products from them. I’m still in the process dealing with Catlink, I will report back.

At this point, I just want to return this machine and never look at it again.

First of all, if you’re debating whether or not you can afford an automatic litter box, this product is not at all necessary to taking care of your cat. Yes, it makes your life easier, but you’ll save $750 by using a traditional litter box.

Aside from that, I’m quite impressed, especially since it’s much cheaper than the comparable LitterRobot. Despite being advertised as compatible with tofu litter, I would only use bentonite/clumping clay, as tofu doesn’t get filtered properly and you’ll be wasting 90% of the litter you put in.

They shouldn’t advertise it as tofu litter compatible, because it’s not. Smells are trapped pretty well, although there is a slight stench immediately after the robot has cleaned faeces. I’d still change the waste bag every week or so to prevent nasty odours building up.

App functionality was great for me personally, although I can understand how it’d be difficult to set up for some individuals. Overall, great machine that saves me lots of effort. Will have to see how it holds up over time.

I upgraded from the litter robot III and so glad I did! It’s easy to set up the instructions are simple as is the cleaning of the machine they provide you with videos on how to set up if you have problems.

You can use the app but you also can do it all manually although the app is handy in giving you alerts of the litter box, the health of your pet, you can link other devices of Catlink to get a full proper report on your cats health profile you can also set up other cats profiles so you can have multiple and even has facial recognition for the cats.

I like that the littler filter is changeable/removable makes it easier to clean. I find this one compared to the litter robot holds more litter and there is less mess having the guard at the front as my cat likes to really dig.

I bought the step to go with it and it collects most of the litter making less mess for me to clean up. There is no smell coming from the litter tray even when it is full unlike the litter robot. The tray is big and easy to put a bag in and to empty.

The machine is very quiet but it does takes some time to rotate but in the app you can set it to auto clean after 1 minute of the cat exiting which I find handy for my cat as he likes to go in and out if it’s not gone quick enough to his liking.

I have a finicky kitty who won’t pee in any box that’s not 100% clean. Like most folks, I got this one for the good reviews and the slightly lower price. I was worried it wouldn’t work, the app wouldn’t connect, etc, but so far so good.

We’ve had it for about a month, with only one issue. After about three weeks it shut off and could only be revived by an unplug/replug maneuver, but we get frequent 10-30 second blackouts where I live so I ascribe that anomaly to those.

Otherwise, this thing is awesome. We actually have 3 cats, which makes the tracking each “excretion” by the weight of each cat very useful. I can tell when it’s my finicky boy using it or my big “as long as it’s got litter” fella.

The ozone odor control works very well. Apart from the above mentioned singular power issue my only critiques are: the translation isn’t perfect in the app or printed instructions/website so it may be difficult for a non-tech person to set up or use, and the entry hole is pretty small (although not so much the chamber itself).

My biggest cat (10lb and big-boned) can fit, but it’s tight, and their heads naturally stick out the hole which could discourage a cat that needs a feeling of being fully tucked away in a safe space.

Quibbles aside, we’re seriously considering getting another so the cats can designate one for pee and one for other as they tend to do, and further reduce the amount of manual scooping (currently supplemented with 3 Breeze systems).

A lot of people seem to love this litterbox, but I had several problems and decided to return it. First: During packing or shipping, a huge styrofoam piece inside the item shifted and made it impossible to remove the drum as instructed so I could set it up.

I pushed and pulled and tried everything. Tech support was not helpful, even after I sent them a video and photo of the problem. (I tried to attach the picture to this review. See how the round drum is crooked inside the opening? It was wedged in place like that, and could not be shifted or pulled out.

) I finally solved it by unscrewing the back panel and removing it entirely. which they told me NOT to do because it would void my warranty. But there was no other way to get that giant hunk of styrofoam out.

Once I did that, the box did set up nicely and I got it working. However, the pictures of this machine are misleading. See the yellow/white cat sitting next to the item? IRL the box is HUGE and the hole it really tiny, like a little porthole, and wayyyy high off the ground.

My cat wouldn’t use it. I tried coaxing him, feeding him near it, everything I could think. My 14 year old cat has never, ever gone potty anywhere but his litterbox. But my cat wouldn’t go in this thing.

He “held” it as long as he could, then overnight went on the floor next to it. He has no medical issues and has never done that before. So, I returned it. Feel free to try, and good luck.

Had to leave a review for this product because it solved a major headache in my family, which was cleaning our cat’s litter box lol. we keep ours in the basement and the fact there’s no bad odours and I don’t have to go in daily and manually clean it is A+.

I really like that there’s no need to change cartridges or refills to get rid of the odour which I find annoying and is another added cost/step in maintenance. The app is easy to use and sends you info about your cat which comes in handy.

My brothers cat comes to visit us and first thing he does is run downstairs to use what we call “kitty washing machine”. The pricing seems like an investment but honestly saves you valuable time, keeps your house clean and smelling fresh esp if you have more than one cat.

Worth every penny when I see how much it has helped us! Their customer service is lovely too. I had some questions and they were very quick to respond and help.

I must admit that I was rather reluctant to pay just over $500 for a litter box just because it cleans itself, but I had read dozens of reviews of lesser self-cleaning litter boxes, and after a while it became clear that all others were unsuitable.

All of the self-cleaners (using one variation or another of a rake moving horizontally through the litter) had multiple reviews that indicated that they tend to leave small chunks of saturated litter.

Also the one that cleans itself (Cat Genie) by literally washing the specialized litter designed for it required water being run to it (way too much trouble for me) and the litter tended to be left wet, resulting in the cat tracking it across the house.

I still wanted to have a litter box that would greatly reduce handling litter manually that would also allow me and my wife to make trips of over a week without worrying about our cats having a clean litter box, and this (plus our excellent automatic cat feeder) could open up that ability.

I viewed many video reviews online, before finally purchasing, taking the advice in the reviews and in the printed instructional manual that came with the Litter Robot, finally setting it up in our back porch, adjacent to the conventional plastic tub litter box that we had been using for over a decade.

First, I used some catnip spray mister to apply some scent that is appealing to cats to the step of the LR to attract them, plus I also added one scoop of the litter from their old school litter box to the LR (recommend in the manual) to make our two cats associate it with a place where they can relieve themselves.

It didn’t take even a day for our tomcat to use the LR, but our calico female took about a week to finally use it. No problem, as we kept the conventional litter box where it was as a backup until both cats were fully acclimated.

We did that by greatly reducing cleaning the conventional litter box to encourage them to use the LR, not really pushing the cats, and I’m happy to say that after just over a month straight, both cats have fully graduated to the LR, allowing us to completely retire their old school litter box.

As for the LR itself, I have to say that the expense really paid off, and the design, build quality, and reliability really show with the money spent. We generally go around two weeks between bag changes, and replacing the bag is as easy pulling out the drawer below the LR and pulling out the fully bag, then taking an ordinary 13 gallon kitchen bag and rolling the open end around itself, then sliding it into the drawer, using the retention tabs to hold it in place, then replacing the drawer.

I can also say with authority that the cleans the litter even more efficiently than we could accomplish by hand with the conventional litter box, catching every tiny clump and doing more still by fully rotating and agitating the litter bed.

Conventional litter boxes still require removing all of the litter roughly weekly, even though we used the exact same clumping litter (the excellent Arm & Hammer Slide, for what it’s worth) that we use in the LR because the litter in the conventional box at the bottom, where it doesn’t get fully agitated tends to sift down fine granuals with urine and feces particulates that will eventually make the litter box stinky if not fully removed.

The LR completely eliminates even that issue, now allowing us to tend it by simply adding about a measuring cup of litter weekly to keep it up to the fill line. However, I can say that we could easily go for two weeks without really having to add litter because of the large capacity of the chamber and because of how thoroughly the LR cleans itself, just as long as we changed the bag right before we started.

It was expensive, but this is a truly ingenious device that works about as perfectly as I could ever hope, and now we can go on extended trips without any worries.

There is only one thing that doesn’t deliver for me on the latest litter robot, and that is the accuracy of the weights. I have three cats all at 10ths or more. The litter robot thinks they weigh 2 lbs.

but I suspect that is because it sits on carpet (my scale lies on carpet too). But, for every other reason this is the very best Litter Robot I have owned and I have had every version except the one just prior to this.

I’ve never had issues with any of the machines getting stuck (unless I failed to empty the bin on time, which this one eliminates with notifications!) nor have I had any failures of any kind. What I love about this version is that it is wide open so even my big boy who is not a fan of enclosed boxes will use it, and it is silent.

As in I literally hear nothing even if it cycles in the middle of the night (you can disable night function though). I do have this litter robot in my bedroom because my middle cat is special needs so I try to keep the cleanest box near to where she sleeps as I did my previous litter robot (the open air without connectivity) and that one was far from silent, but as I am sure most people looking at this will understand that we do whatever we need to do to keep our cat overlords happy and healthy so we made it work.

So for me, that is a huge plus. Also, it is so much easier to clean and that would’ve been my one complaint across all iterations of the litter robot prior to this. So thanks for that upgrade too! Bottom line this is an investment, but having tried a number of automatic litter boxes over the years, this one has always been the very best and it will always have a place in my house.

I do still have standard boxes as I have three cats and one is not super crazy about things that move on their own. But it sure is nice to have one box that is always clean for my picky girls, especially the one with tummy issues.

I’ve never had any version of the litter robot break down that couldn’t be easily reset or requiring returning it, nor have I ever had one stop working requiring replacement. In fact, my brother took my previous one as it still functioned fine as I purchased this version because my cats are all fairly large and I wanted to try and get all of them using it.

My leggy, lanky boy still isn’t using it all the time, the other two use it 90% of the time meaning I can now have only 1 box to scoop and the litter robot! I personally believe it is a worthy investment that will last and it definitely saves on litter and of course time spent scooping.

In cat speak, that’s time better spent rubbing bellies, feeding treats and playing with them.

When looking into buying a self cleaning box, I did ALOT of research. There are so many brands out there but this one seemed to have the best information available & since it was $400 I figured it was going to be better quality than a lot of the cheaper options out there.

I had my doubts, but it seemed like a lot of people were happy with it so I gave it a shot. I’ve had it for 3 weeks and I’m already throwing it in the trash. They mention that it doesn’t make a lot of noise which couldn’t be further from the truth.

For context, my litter box is in my basement and my bedroom is on the 2nd floor. EVERY night the litter box is so loud it wakes me up. The motor gets stuck CONSTANTLY and I have to scrape in between to help make it move.

I have one cat, clean it DAILY and it still barely works. They focus on the easy clean up, just removing the bag. However, the sifting piece pushes the litter in between where the bag is and the actual device so litter dumps onto the floor as soon as you open it.

Not a little bit, MOUNTAINS of it. My cat fits into the box and is able to go in there – however, the size / amount of litter that you’re able to have in it is really more suitable for a kitten or VERY small cat.

On top of this, you can only use a very select type of litter – I used the ones recommended on the website and they still clogged the rake and didn’t really work well. On top of that, there is no help with odor control since the rake is barely functional and dirty litter gets trapped behind the motor.

Use the $400 and get your cat something they aren’t going to be afraid of because its SOOOOO noisy. Every aspect of this that makes it seem like a good investment is simply not accurate. Don’t listen to the people on YouTube giving rave reviews because they were likely just paid to say it.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. 11/2021: I’m on my second “egg” now and I need to let everyone know why NEVER to purchase from them. Not only is the product routinely defective, it’s also awful to manage. The tray to capture litter is itty bitty, the rake continually gets things stuck on it and is difficult to clean – the whole this is SUCH a pain, and they make you take it entirely apart.

Nothing about it is intuitive and I made the dumb decision to buy one anyway. Of course they only promote their “good” reviews. I posted one directly on their website and it’s hidden. I contacted Chillx customer support to notify them that my automatic cat litter box was no longer working, and unable for my cat to use, even as a normal litter box.

I notified them that the box was used “residentially”, as was stated in their warranty, and the team asked many individual questions rather than having me evaluate the potential issue in one go, making the entire resolution process take longer than necessary.

The representative tried to offer me a reconditioned (refurbished) unit, after I had purchased a brand new Egg. By June 21st the representative said my option was to return the egg, at my cost. I informed them that was outrageous and I would not pay (as stated on their website) 60-170 additional $.

Finally, after arguing with them, in place of returning the egg, they send me a replacement motor. When replacing the motor (based on their instructional video), I discovered a design flaw. The wire that powers the motor and therefore the cleaning of the egg, was completely severed – by their own designed clamp (unable to be touched by me or my cat.

) Since this egg is ~400 brand new, I would expect them to back their own product. Their warranty states you can “return the chillx” within 30 days for any reason, however their 12 month warranty states they will only send you a new egg if there is a “defect”.

If they design their own product poorly, there is absolutely no reason that the customer needs to shoulder that flaw. Their support team is embarrassingly brief and dismissive of customer concerns. there has been zero empathy displayed from the numerous representatives I have spoken to, and no admittance of fault.

I’m on my second “refurbished” unit and I (of course) have more problems. The screen that’s supposed to be unable to be permeated is now on the fritz and the sensor seems broke so it doesn’t even rake automatically.

It’s a glorified piece of junk. OF COURSE they are asking me to send it back again for repairs or a replacement. What a trash “warranty” policy for a trash product, that continually breaks – just a couple months after ownership.

Do NOT buy anything from them, ever.

I ordered the unit on May 7th of 2021. It was backordered at the time, stating it would ship in 2-4weeks. It didn’t. I understood the delays at the time, though, and tend to give others the benefit of the doubt.

But I never got communication about extended delays. My husband was convinced we were scammed, so I reached out to them on Jun 28th, 7 weeks after ordering. Four days after indicating we thought they were a scam, we got a shipping notice.

That timing seems a little sketchy in hindsight. It shipped July 2nd and arrived July 7th. The product looks nice, and did [sometimes] rake litter – that’s about all the good I have to say about it. I have two cats, but one was always too terrified of it to use it, so I’ve always had to keep a standard litter box as well.

I wouldn’t say the motor is loins but it makes enough noise my cats went on high alert whenever it’s start a rake cycle. Wide-eyed starting at, ears honed in on it, and crouching in a preflight pose.

The dome lid easily dislodged with the cat going in and out, also traumatizing them against it. And the dome is the biggest pain to get back on. It’s terrible. I hate it. Loathe it, even. Shortly after setting it up and using it, I didn’t love it but was convinced I was the problem.

The litter I used gunked up the rake tines and also piled up behind it as it went back to its home position. So I contacted them about what litter they recommended. They won’t endorse anything officially, but mentioned that their customers’ preference was the same litter I was using 😐 mmkayyyI chose a different litter on my own, and still had the same issues but to a less severe degree.

It requires frequent deep cleaning, as it gets litter EVERYWHERE inside the unit. It spills so much underneath the tray when it back rakes and litter is constantly in the wheel/tracks – impeding the rake and causing it to misalign, and grind loudly.

Again, scaring the cats that are meant to use it. The problem with the tracks is also that its design has the wire powering the rake just dragged around, back and forth with it, in a way that generally just wears it down.

But also, it can get caught in the gear/wheel and pinched or run over, again dislodging the rake and damaging itself in the process. I used electrical tape to tape up my now exposed wiring due to this design flaw, and it continued to “work” this way for a while – no better nor worse than before.

In early March 2022, it stopped raking entirely. I thought it was the tracks needing cleared again, so I took it apart and deep cleaned it as I had several times before, but it still would not finish a rake cycle, even empty of litter.

It would rake almost to the bin, but not all the way and would not go back “home. ”It was right before vacation while I was fighting it, so I just left it unplugged and empty, bought a new large standard litter box to accommodate my two cats while we were gone, and went on vacation.

Once back, I tried again a few time to fix it, thinking again I was the problem. But I now am positive it’s not me. It’s just faulty. I emailed customer service April 3rd 2022, describing the problem and asking advice and what the warranty covered, etc.

It is now April 29th and I still have no response to my email. My husband again is convinced they are a scam and wants me to flame them on social media. I’ve never done such a thing before, but boy am I tempted.

This review is the start. I implore you, just don’t buy it. Don’t give them your money. Especially in this economy. It will not save you time, effort, discomfort, or litter. Keep your $400 and scoop your litter, cuz you’d still have to do it anyway with this litter box.

I purchased this litter box in June 2021. I have 4 cats and you know scooping litter multiple times a day is not fun! After doing research on self-cleaning litter boxes, I took a gamble on this one. This one is simple to use, easy to discard the waste and a tad bit cheaper than some of the other self-cleaning litter boxes.

It did not take long for my cats to adjust to the new box, they actually love watching it do the cleaning cycle lol. It has sensors so it stops rotating if a cat is on/in it. Easy chamber to remove with the waste.

It comes with some liners, i actually ran out and have been using just regular grocery bags as liners and works just the same for me, do that reduced another cost for me. As i’ve said, I had 4 cats, so I do have to empty it at least 1 a day, sometimes it can go 2 days.

I use the exquisicat clay clumping litter and I haven’t been able to smell the cat litter/waste at all since the litter box is does the cleaning cycle a few minutes after the cat uses it. It only smells when you remove the chamber (its full of waste so that’s a given lol).

It will actually some a exclamation point ( ! ) when it needs to be emptied, if it’s not empty it will not rotate. I am impressed by this litter box and I might even purchase another soon since I will be getting another cat soon.

It works!! As long as you follow the instructions it comes with! (if you have carpet, it may not function properly but you can purchase a large ceramic tile and place it under the litter box, my brother purchased one for his home and he did this and it works the same!).

I would give this 0 stars if it was possible do NOT waste your money on this product. The tray that lifts to hide the clumps/poop broke almost immediately after purchasing the box. The litter is comes with is the WORST crystal litter I have ever used the only way i could use the box at ALL was do spend another $60 on the reusable tray and buy another brand of litter and even then the scooping arm stops in the middle CONSTANTLY, seriously almost on a daily basis.

I also have to come and manually scoop the box twice a week because the cover does nothing to prevent odor and because the pee just sits in the bottom of the box until all of the litter is soaked through and has to be scooped.

I am going back to clay litter and a normal box, if I have to scoop it twice a week anyway at least the clay litter will lock in odors and won’t have the scooping arm stuck in the middle of the box causing my cats to pee in the floor due to not being able to use the box.

This product is the biggest waste of time money and effort i have ever experienced, and I have been changing litters, box locations in my home, and watching youtube video after youtube video for 4 months desperately trying to make this work considering I had to spend over $200 all together on it and I have finally given up.

Please do NOT waste your time and money on this box.

PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra Automatic Self-Cleaning Hooded Cat Litter Box This is the best automatic cat liter box that I have ever used. A friend had the lower model version a few years back and their cat loved it, as well as the owner, so I took the chance on this higher tech version.

It was shipped promptly and packaged very well to ensure that none of the components got damaged during shipping. De-packaging and assembly were very easy and took approximately 10 minutes! I cannot get over how much this changed the look of the room my old box was located as its so stylish compared to a plain old litter box.

The cord that powers the control panel is plenty long enough to allow for me to place the box nearly anywhere in the room as well. There is a basic model, but the features of the Ultra model made it worth the price.

While all models sense once a cat has used the box, in order to begin clean function, this version features a adjustable timer that allows you to change how quickly the box cleans itself after the cat does its business.

Furthermore, while both models have a manual “clean box” button, the Ultra model also has a “Health Counter” that tracks your cats’ usage. Since you will be monitoring the box less now, due to the self-cleaning, I found that the counter is great for making sure your cat is still using the box the appropriate amount.

Another thing that I love about this box is the no-mess clean-up! It comes with a disposable tray filled with liter crystals that when it is time to swap the liter out, all you have to do is throw the whole disposable tray away.

I feel like this could be very useful for people who are very germ conscious, or even for people with certain disabilities that hinder them from scooping! For a more ecofriendly approach, they also offer for purchase a “forever liter tray” made of durable plastic that can be dumped, cleaned, and refilled with fresh liter crystals.

It was a little more work since you have to clean the tray, but I felt better for being a bit more eco-conscious. Overall, I cannot recommend this product enough and I hope they’re in stock during the holidays because these are a perfect gift for the cat lovers in your life!.

I would have to say this device is a major disappointment, it claims to have superior odour control. It also claims to dehydrate and shrink solid waste on contact. I purchased this device for its claims of scoop free and odour control.

The scooping mechanism gets waste matter on the blades and also gets stuck in the blades, resulting in more mess to clean up. Product also claims crystals to last for weeks. This has not been the case for our kittens litter.

The design and placement of buttons for scoop clearing manually and for reading are in an inconvenient location. Changing the litter tray over is also a messy painful job. Unfortunately I have to say it is a waste of money.

Snooky isn’t a temperamental cat she just knows what she likes or dislikes. Snooky is a Russian Blue and being descended from Russian aristocracy she can throw one big kitty cat tantrum if her litter box isn’t clean.

I carefully followed the acclimating your cat to the new litter box instructions but needed have bothered because she immediately started using the new box. I believe the crystal litter is easier on her paws, Snooky has very delicate paws and being the lady she is she always makes a good job of covering any waste.

So cat approved and I approve too. I love the anti tracking grid and the no dust litter, I have a mat under the box but that didn’t stop litter being tracked though-out the house with the previous system.

I also noticed the crystal litter wasn’t getting stuck in between Snooky’s toes. Maintaining has been easy, I give the whole box a good shake everyday to keep the litter evenly distributed, having a scoop hanger is a nice touch because I never know where to put the scoop.

The crystal litter and pad absorb all the odor, the vents allowing air flow also help to keep the box smelling fresh. The size of the box is perfect, big and deep enough for a cat to feel comfortable but not so big you need a wheel barrow to fill it with litter! The box looks smart and is made from high quality materials, no wobbly bits on it.

I don’t have the model with the hole in the top of the hood, and actually my cats would not use it with the hood on at all, but, this is something I have recommended to friends and would absolutely buy again.

The litter is expensive, but I learned a way to make it stretch. I have 2 cats. A litter tray should last about 2-3 weeks. I get at least 4, sometimes 5. The trick is to only put in 1/2 to 2/3 of the bag of litter into the tray initially.

Then at the first hint of outdoor (about 2 weeks) I add some or all of the remaining litter. I also shop deals for the litter trays in 3 packs or 6 packs sometimes on auto ship.

I bought this almost a month ago and discovered that there is not enough room in the disposal compartment for all my cat’s droppings. He’s a big guy, at 16 pounds so maybe he just produces a lot. Maybe for smaller cats you could actually get through a whole month with out excrement overflow.

Also, my cat only urinates in one corner and the rake doesn’t mix up the crystals enough to spread it around so either that one corner will be super saturated with cat urine, or I need to manually mix up the litter so that the crystals can do their absorption job, or else it will smell.

Kind of defeats the purpose of an automatic litter box though. Lastly, I’m not surprised, though I was hopeful, that the cover would limit the amount of litter tracked away from the box, but no such luck.

I’m sure it’s way better than an open box, but you will still be vacuuming once a week at least.

This is my second one, they are wonderful. I have two cats, and you can get by with one but you have to change it at 10 days. Going on three weeks now and I haven’t touched them. No smell. My only issue is that my Munchkin cat plays with the rake when it’s moving!.

I hate reviews like this, but I think if done correctly they can maybe help people kind of understand challenges that they might face or situations that they might not have thought of. Before we get any further, if you have more than one cat this system will both cost more and be more work than just a regular clay litter system.

I say this because the only way to make it where you’re not replacing the cat pads every 2-3 days is by having more than one litter box which just doesn’t add up to being a positive investment because now you have to also buy double of everything.

Chronologically, my issues came up as so: 1. TL;DR This will be a continuous training effort that will probably just never stick. TBH, I have one fairly new cat and they just straight up prefer the clay litter.

The instructions say that if you let the cat litter box get dirty enough they’ll prefer the cleaner breeze option, but that just never seemed to really work. And then, after I even threw out the old cat litter box because it had already been about a month my newest cat decided that he would just rather use the restroom wherever he pleased if there were no clay litter box.

2. I guess my cats poop is just really stinky because basically nothing would get rid of the horrible smell. I even tried the extra strength pellets, but at some point I would just get a whiff of cat poo.

I think the biggest issue is that in some cases the pellets just don’t have that same coverage ability so there’s really no way to stop odors from coming out. I think the solution to this is probably inferred to be that you need to get rid of the poop immediately, but I work long hours so that’s just not possible.

I’m not going to sit there and wait / watch for when my cat poo. 3. The cat pads were actually a pretty stellar thing; however, the cost ratio just doesn’t work. I think it works for the one cat situation, but even then it seems like as if I would of had to replace my cat pads every two days to really keep that area clean.

Overall, I like the idea of this product. However, for my specific situation outlined in the examples above, this product did not meet expectations and also caused a lot more hassle.

I cannot recommend this highly enough. I was worried it was overhyped/just marketing, but this is fantastic and absolutely lives up to the marketing. My room, the area around the litter box, and my cat herself have never been cleaner.

My cat tracks litter EVERYWHERE, and with this box I clean up little pellets maybe once a week (instead of multiple times a day) and it’s so much easier to clean. My cat has kidney issues and drinks a lot of water, so I change the pad on the bottom more frequently than once a week, but it’s the easiest thing ever to clean.

I don’t dread cleaning at all, it almost makes me pleased to think about how easy and quick it is to clean. The parts all work well together and I haven’t had any issues, and it’s simple to put together and take apart when I want to do a deep clean.

The plastic is treated with some kind of waterproofing, so even if there are any leaks (which there haven’t been), it wouldn’t make the whole box smell terrible forever. I do find that to fill up the box to my cat’s satisfaction, I use about double the recommended 3.

5lbs, but the bigger bags are cheaper anyway. I did the math and for me the pads and pellets are cheaper than what I was spending on litter before, but even if they weren’t, it would be worth the extra cost.

My cat had no trouble whatsoever adjusting to the new box. My one warning: if you have a very old cat and/or one with mobility issues, make sure to check the height. It’s lower than a standard stair step, but is definitely a bit more raised than a standard litter box.

Design-wise, there is also a lip on the entrance side of the box that gets in the way of her moving around inside the box a little bit sometimes, I think that could be removed/sized down or adjusted, but it has not been a significant issue in any way.

I don’t know why anyone with a cat isn’t using this system already. Seriously, if you’re thinking about it, or even if you’re not, put it in your cart immediately. You will not regret it!.

*The litter is actually low dust, so I no longer sneeze ever time I have to scoop litter. Clay litter always had enough dust to aggravate my asthma or make me sneeze when I worked around the box. Not to mention the weird natural clay smell that clay litters have and don’t get me started on how bad scented clay litters would stick in my nose.

The Breeze pellets do have a faint scent, kind of like a bag of driveway/garden gravel or sand for a sand box. I only notice it when I’m scooping/changing pellets. *This box saves so much time! Since urine flows through the pellets to the pad below, all you have to scoop is poo.

This means I can shift the litter in just a scoop or two, which is a huge game changer when you have to keep an eye on your kids (mine is 1). The pad is quick and easy to change when needed every 3-7 days (depending how many cats you have).

*The litter is actually no track! My Breeze litter box is in an awkward tight space in the back corner besides the couch, because my kitten decided that was a great place to do her business during litter training when she was really young.

Since we have a multi level home, we had decided that maybe she needed a box on each story of the house as is suggested (wasn’t a problem for my previous cat). Well, as you may’ve guessed it’s not easy to vacuum tracked clay litter out of the carpet in such a tight and awkward space.

The Breeze has saved me quite a headache, because the pellets don’t track and aren’t easily kicked out of the pan. My cat isn’t a heavy litter kicker to begin with but always had a mess of clay litter around her old box, but now I just have the occasional pellet to pick off the floor n’ toss back in the box.

So another example of how this box will save you maintenance time. *Does control odor! As mentioned my Breeze sits next to my couch, but my guests can’t smell it, even while sitting on the couch side that’s right next to it! The pads do a great job of locking in urine odor and the pungent, burning smell of urine has always been the worst part of cleaning a traditional litter box for me.

The pads are very absorbent; never had an issue with urine soaking through them or going around it in the tray. The pellets do seem to dry pretty fast as well (I do lightly stir mine daily), so I haven’t noticed any lingering ammonia smell on/in the pellets, which is awesome! Traditional clumping litters would always have tiny, impossible to scoop, bits of urine soaked clay that would mix throughout the box and make the whole thing always smell.

To me that’s what always left a traditional litter box smelling, not the BM. That brings me to the Breeze and how it handles the solid waste. It doesn’t hide the odor at all, not that I felt any of my unscented clay or wheat/corn pellet litters ever did much to hide it either.

The Breeze pellets, however, I feel do indeed dry it out faster as it’s advertised. This means it doesn’t smell fresh for as long. I just scoop the box once a day, as is the recommendation with any type of litter or box and as I mentioned I can fool guests into thinking I don’t have a cat unless they see her because they don’t smell her box anymore.

I think the bag of pellets will actually last longer than a month since they’ve been drying nicely and not many stick to the solids. *As far as quality goes, the plastic feels pretty average for a litter box.

The plastic on one side of my box was slightly warped, so it did take some extra effort to get the white guard to line up with it and snap onto the green box properly. However, the guard isn’t something that should ever need removed and put back on, so no big deal.

The guard does have a recessed groove so it sits down over the rim of the litter pan on both the inside and outside. This means there’s no seam where a cat may pee out through, which is a common issue with other guarded/hooded regular litter boxes, especially for male cats.

The tray underneath does slide smoothly straight out/in; be careful not to twist or jam it by opening/closing it at an angle as I think over time the tray would warp if you did that a lot. I do want to talk about the litter scoop a moment.

I absolutely love that it hangs off the back of the guard, so I don’t have to worry about spreading bacteria to surfaces around the litter box and I always know where it it (no more moving around stuff to figure out where I put the scoop this time).

*My kitten took to the box pretty quickly. I put it exactly where 1 of her traditional boxes where so she already knew that the box was in X spot. I didn’t have to mix her old litter in or anything and she hasn’t ever used a pelleted litter before.

She does scratch around in it a lot after going, like she’s frustrated that she can’t bury her business even though she’s never been great about bury it in her old clay litter. She wouldn’t do a #2 in it at first, but seems to be getting more use to it by the day (only had it 2 weeks as of this review) and now uses it fully.

I plan to buy another one to replace the remaining traditional clay litter box that’s upstairs too. *Overall, I feel that the quicker regular maintenance of the box and no longer needing to constantly vacuum around the litter box, combined with it’s level of odor control is worth the extra money spent monthly on the special litter and the pads.

If you need to save some cash look into washable fabric absorbent puppy training pads that are small for use in carries or I’ve heard the system works well to sift out crumpled wheat/corn pellet bedding when you stir the litter.

Odor control will be best using the Breeze products designed for it though. May not be economical for a house with more than 2-3 cats, however, the Breeze is cheaper than similar litter systems and easier to find refills for too.

What a fantastic purchase for my 4 indoor cats & me – 2 jumbo size scoop free litter boxes which suit the Maine Coon X and the Ragdoll as well as the 2 older petite sisters. The scoop free boxes are made from a smooth, slippery plasticy material which means no more poop sticking to the sides and around the edges like the previous large storage boxes I had.

The Ragdoll has frequent diarrhoea & vomiting from a gastric condition & used to make a horrid mess everywhere, now it’s so easy to clean up. And the new boxes look soooo much nicer. I also switched the litter to the Michu original tofu cat litter which has virtually no smell new or used to offend my nose or their more sensitive ones.

No more stinky litter boxes – truly! We even have one in our bedroom with no odour at all, it’s incredible. I have used so many different litters & was preparing to return to the pine pellets but the tofu is brilliant & well worth the slightly higher cost especially as they don’t go through it very quickly, it clumps well & there’s no waste.

The Ragdoll does still kick a little bit out but nothing like he used to. It was very easy to get them to use the new boxes & the new litter. I put a new one next to an old one & let them choose which one they wanted.

It took probably 2 days before they were all using the new ones (the Ragdoll naturally used all 4 boxes – just as well I love him heaps!) I took the old boxes away after a week & no mishaps at all. The sisters often toileted outside in the cat run but are mainly using the boxes now especially with this cold, wet winter, I can’t blame them.

The other great item I bought was the Moderna lift to sift scoop. It’s a much better shape & design so I’ve tossed the previous flat ones away. I haven’t used the boxes in the shake mode (which is why I bought this design) but now have 2 extra trays if I need to put out more boxes.

I use the scoop frequently during the day (4 cats, 2 boxes & 1 messy boy) it’s quick & easy to keep the boxes clean & everyone is happy. This litter box has made things much easier! It meets my expectations and is as advertised. The cats are very happy and very little litter escapes the box during use. Now that I’m using it I do wish that the litter boxes and sieve had small handles to make it easier to lift out each box.

I don’t think this would be necessary with the smaller size but the larger size is heavy with the litter that I use so it can be a little tricky to separate and lift the boxes. It would also be super cool if only 3/4 of the sieve was gridded and 1/4 solid plastic.

That would mean that in transferring the used litter to the bin you could tilt the sieve to the solid area and no crumbs would fall to the floor. Without that change you can still just pop the other tray underneath for easy transfer this so it shouldn’t be a reason not to buy! These are very small tweaks, but I’d probably buy a second if such a model came out.

In March we ‘inherited’ a beautiful Calico female that would come to eat and visit. She suddenly and unexpectedly gifted us with 3 gorgeous kittens, all different colors. With four cats comes a boatload of poop so I began shopping for a sifting litter box and stumbled upon this one.

It’s sturdy and easy to clean with very little detritus getting through. I also really like the removable ‘splash guard’ which really helps keep the litter in the box and off the floor. State Line’s service was top notch as well.

I was able to talk to a REAL person and place my order on the phone after my questions were quickly and courteously answered. Shipping was much faster than predicted, even during the pandemic. I’ll be back when I need another.

We got this for our cat, the good is that it keeps litter very contained, which we need cause our cat digs to china each time he goes. We have a regular pan also, because he’s a diva and needs one for poop and one for pee, the regular pan always looks like someone dumped half of it on the floor, while this is really clean.

The bad is that the steps are impossible to clean with a scoop, but I use a shop vac to clean it up easy. I realize not everyone would have that handy so just keep in mind how you can clean that area, maybe a dust buster would work.

It holds an entire box of litter, which makes it rather deep, good for the diggers like my cat! I plan on replacing my other pan with this type soon.

This was the first litter box I used for my cat. I have no complaints. It was not very noticeable in my dining room kitchen. I had it in-between a few plants and you couldn’t tell it was there. I would just remove the top and scoop.

I would recommend this litter box for anyone with a regular sized cat. I ended up adopting a bigger cat and had to upgrade to a bigger litter box. He’s 16 lbs and this was too small for him.

Finally! A litterbox that actually keeps litter from tracking all around the house! The “clean step” really helps to minimize cat litter outside the box and I have 6 cats using it. I use a hand vacuum to clean the step once in a while and the small amount of litter that makes it way onto the floor.

Very minimal. Finally I feel like I can have a litterbox in the livingroom without it being visually unappealing or causing a mess. All my cats have been using it a lot, even more than the other giant, open, rectangle litterboxes we have.

Even our elderly cat with arthritis can access it easily with the stairs. I am thinking of getting another one of these boxes! I subtracted a star for these CONS- 1. Strange shape to scoop, not sure I’ll get used to that.

Rectangle is easier for sure than kidney bean shape. 2. As others have said, there is no latch to keep the top on the bottom. Maybe one day they will fix this, so not good for curious dogs or toddlers.

To add a little stability from rough playing kids or cats from accidentally knocking it I add a small piece of duct tape on either side of the entrance- helps a lot! 3. Could not get the litterbox liner it came with to fit over the strange shape of the litterbox.

The plastic actually split at the seam before I even started to try using it, had to patch it with duct tape. But ended up throwing it out anyway. If the liners you buy for this box are like this, they are useless.

And not sure if any liners out there will fit or not. Keep this in mind if you prefer to use a liner.
