I really like this, you can do a lot with mirin. One of the best uses I have found for it was making this orange julius recipe instead of using honey as the sweetener. However there are a ton of Japanese recipes this was designed for so if you’re into Japanese food this is a must.

I didn’t care for the beef flavor (purple one) but otherwise it’s a good variety for the price. If you like the more umami flavors (bonito/salmon/shrimp) this mix is for you. There are ones with more egg and one with wasabi which are good too and this mix included the original nori.

I’m so bored with plain simple rice, that this seasoning was interesting enough to try as I love Mexican seasoning/spices. Besides the insane amount of sodium it has, the flavor is bomb, so so delicious.
I think to cut on sodium I can try and put less of it into rice next time, yeah it won’t be as rich, but still will be great and more interesting than plain old rice. Super easy to use and very convenient too.

I got this knorr Mexican red rice seasoning for the first time recently. With 4 kids, there is usually 1 that isn’t a fan of something new, but they all enjoyed it. Most other variations of Mexican rice are prepackaged with rice already in it, and in most cases in our local stores they don’t carry Mexican rice variety that is organic or brown rice.
I like that this knorr product is just the seasoning and we can use our own preferred organic brown rice. Easy to cook, and cooks in the same time it took me to cook the meat. 10 out of 10 will be adding as an addition to our Mexican meals.

We tried the rest, just to see if Zatarain’s Red Beans & Rice is the best. IT IS!!! We make it with olive oil. The flavor is spectacular. We spoon it into flour tortillas (or wheat) and roll them up, making the best rice and bean burritos ever.
Sometimes we add a little cooked ground beef. My husband likes shredded cheese, salsa, & sour cream on them. I noticed a review asking for more beans to be healthier. I’d like for the rice to be brown rice to be healthier.

I started eating this a year ago trying to make a p**eye* copycat and I acheived something even better. I eat it at least once a week now and try to keep a bowl ready in the frige for microwaving. I boil a hammock or preferbably a package of smoked pork neck bones on low heat for several hours, cool and strip the meat from the bones and chop it up.
I measure the remaining liquid to scale for the recipe and add 1 1/2 teaspoons of cumin and 1 1/2 teaspoons of hickory smoke powder and finish the recipe according to directions.
After falling in love the the zatarains jambalaya rice I thought I’d also try this too. Personally while I liked the seasonings I didn’t really feel wowed by this one. Cooking time is great another quick 25 minute meal where you can add extra veg and protein of your choosing.
For me i didn’t like how it cooked quite wet despite following the instructions. I never have that issue with the other zatarains rices, plus the bean taste really overpowered the rice, spices and other vegetables which I really disliked it could be because they are dried vs the canned wet beans I normally cook with.
While I think the idea is good for me I wouldn’t recommend this one it hasn’t been brought since I tried it twice thinking maybe I was being too picky.

The only reason I give it 3 stars is because for me, I didn’t like the actual taste of the seasoning. It’s very fresh and citrusy so if you like that flavor with your meats this is definitely the one.

I came across this on and decided to try it. First, I like that it DOES NOT HAVE ingredients one doesn’t need: sugar, gluten, MSG and no GMO. I also like that it is low in sodium. This is really important as I do really need to watch my intake.
The salt it does have just pulls the ingredients together to create a great flavor without being the main ingredient. This spicy seasoning has a nice kick to it which I love. I use it on a lot of different kinds of food: meat, eggs, veggies, soups, hash browns, etc.
If one does not like a kick to their food, then use the original seasoning; it good too!.

I love great tamales and was raised on good Mexican style tamales wrapped in a corn husks. But until I spent fourteen years in Viento Frio Rep?blic? d? Panam?, I hadn’t realized what the best tamale tasted like or had lurking with it’s vast 1 ?” x 3″ x 7″-9″ Masa form.
Tamales in Panam? are eaten for any meal anytime of the year. I’ve paid from $0. 50-$2. 00 US dollar for one. Sunday afternoon was a good time to find a mother or a couple of kids carrying a 5 gallon bucket on their heads with a bath towel rolled like a cinnamon roll to center the load on anyones head.
They were usually selling them to have the money for one other more kids to travel to a larger community for the school week, live with another family and return Friday evening after school. A typical tamale would have a chicken wing or, leg with the foot minus the toe nails, a long string bean, a few green olives with pimento, a tablespoon of whole kernel corn, maybe some shreds of purple or green cabbage, slices or lengths of carrots, onion, garlic and assorted peppers, usually sweet bells in green or colors.
These were seldom spicy hot even though some habanero peppers would find their way into the mixture. A onion pepper salsa was prepared, usually one person working on gathering those items, rinsing and slicing them in preparation for the blender.
Another would boil water and cook the chicken then several women would de bone and shred the chicken meat. Another person gathered firewood and it takes a lot of wood as they start them in a 40 gallon cast iron pot sitting on concrete blocks or hanging over the fire about 14:00 hrs and they cooked until 06:00 in the morning.
Another person was in charge of gathering leaves that would be used to hold the formed shape of the tamales together and keep it nearly sealed during the cooking process. These were similar to a banana or plantain leaf, so if you were making and steaming 100 tamales you needed one leaf for about three tamales and 6 or eight to cover the top of the pot with even though you might have a lid, you wanted a good seal so they steamed good.
Oh, string to tie the leaf around the tamale wrapped inside the leaf. It might take 8 people doing this laborious project and usually all mother’s each with children of their own, or an Aunt (Tia) or a grandmother (abuela) donating their time.
After eating my first one on a customized school bus riding from Col?n to Viento Frio, I decided I’d learn how to make my own. A chicken leg with the foot was not my cup of tea. A nice big half chicken breast divided length wise will make about 8 tamales.
This is definitely the best seasoning I have ever tried because it’s so easy to make a simple rice recipe. My aunt gave me this seasoning to try and now I’m hooked. I use it to make Spanish rice and it comes out so tasty.

Whatever you do B&B please do not stop offering the Jollof Rice Blend, I can’t get enough of it. Great as a side or add your favorite veggies and you have a meal. Add it to stuffed peppers or garden tomatoes, add cooked ground sausage meat, cooked hamburger, cubed or ground cooked chicken, anything works.

I ordered this Jollof spice the first time I saw it Pok’s spices’ page. I had no second thought because I use Pok spices and it’s the best. I made my Jollof and I am glad I made a big pan because my family has been feasting on the delicious meal since it was made.

In the past, I would have given this product 5 stars. I have been purchasing this rice for several years, and my family and I really thought it was delicious. I cooked a package of the rice last night, and the seasoning powders and spices in the foil packaging were in a hard clump at the bottom of the package.
I stirred the hard clump quite a bit in the oiled boiling water, but the clump never really broke up completely. Hard dark pieces were visible throughout my finished rice dish, and they tasted bad. This product has not always had this problem, but every package I have bought for the past year has been like this.
I am going to stop buying until the manufacturer can get this problem solved.
