Best Science Fiction Books For Middle Schoolers (2024 Updated)

One star less than perfect as I was hoping the book would follow Eragon et al further into the future of new Dragon Riders. This is not the huge tomes of Christopher Paolini’s early wonders but a pleasant volume of stories from Alagasia.

And it is good to visit old friends. But not suggested for someone who has not read the Cycle as the characters might be confusing if you don’t know their backstory. The “Worm” was the most compelling, although his sister Angela’s contribution was fun.

Okay, guys, this is going to be short and sweet. First Yes you need to have read The Inheritance Cycle series before you pick up this book. Your knowledge does not need to be recent but you will be lost if you do not know who the main characters were.

In this book, you get three short stories that all take place after Inheritance. One involves Murtagh, the next is about Angela and Elva and the last is an old story told from one of the races. Haha, you have to read it to find out, I can’t give everything away.

All in all, I feel that this was a bridge book to the next series that he writes in this world. The ending set that up very nicely for that. If you enjoyed the series and want to see what is going on with those characters you should definitely pick this up.

I do warn you I thought that the last story was too long but that is just me.

I loved this book! It was good value, and the content was compelling. I highly recommend this book for young readers. The book was is perfect condition. I rated it four stars because it could have come faster.

Bought these books for my granddaughter for Christmas, she really likes the series so I answered yes because she asked for them.

This is another great book from Tui Sutherland. Her attention to detail in the lives of the dragons is amazing. The book sucks you into the story from the first page and you just simply want to keep reading to find out what happens to the characters.

This book it did open a door, to the works of R. A. Salvatore. It features no bard, but a dread crystal shard and great heroes whose names became lore. A rollicking, rip-snorting tale, it spans the breadth of Icewind Dale, if you dare take a look, you’ll get lost in this book, I can guarantee this without fail.

So if you find yourself tucked in a nook, or reposed by a babbling brook, read a tale filled with flagons and wizards, and dragons In short, I do recommend this book!.

Straightforward high fantasy set in the world of Faerun. Good guys consistently good and intelligent, bad guys consistently bad and stupid. The girls don’t get a look-in, really. As I used to write on students’ scripts, “Good work, well written up, but lacks originality”.

I look very forward to reading more of these characters of Forgotten Realms and of Salvatore’s work beyond Dungeons & Dragons. And again if the only thing really holding you back from giving these kinds of books a read is the unnecessary stigma against D&D I hope you will not continue to let it bias you because the stories and characters are truly engaging.

Amazing. I have been reading this series since the first book came out. Ransom Riggs is a great writer. When I read the vooks I can actually visualize what is going on in the story

It’s the last in the series and it ended everything wonderfully! I had the book read within a week and loved it. It’s one of those (series) I will re-read again.

This is not the movie, despite the Will Smith cover shot. It’s a series of short stories concerning the early development of thinking robots. The stories are both funny and thought provoking. If you have read Asimov’s other series, this provides some early development background.

It’s also scary to compare with today’s AI advancements. Are we getting too close?.

AI is all around us. The future is a place that we approach at 60 minutes-an-hour. Time to consider the ethics of robotics and AI before humans take the next step of the cliff into the abyss. This was a fun SyFy read when published.

but it is a great and essential read to form you opinions on AL now.

The shipper was great – package arrived in wonderful shape. I can not review this book as it is a gift for my husband for Christmas as he requested it.

Shusterman does a fantastic job at characterisation, world – building, and pacing. It is a perfect introduction to the perfectly imperfect Scythe universe as it meticulously discusses the moral quandaries regarding life within a world that has conquered death.

Shusterman realistically considers minute details in this world of science – fiction, drawing inspiration from past and present society to manufacture a seemingly perfect, yet stagnant future. Thus, resulting in somewhat dark, but most importantly, thought provoking journey of change which will have you binge-reading the rest of the trilogy and writing a review before you even know it!.

The world has evolved to a place where there’s no more sickness, little crime and humans are now immortal. There are no more governments, no war and if you do become “deadish” you are whisked to a revival centre and return as good as new.

There are nanites in the blood to stop pain and when you grow older you can ‘turn the corner’ and continue life at a younger age. Basically, it’s a perfect world, which is under the watchful and constant gaze of the Thunderhead – essentially a ‘cloud’ that developed AI and now keeps the world in check.

The only issue with this new world is overpopulation, and so the Thunderhead has developed the Scythedom – the only aspect over which it has no control. Scythes are the only people with permission to take a life – to glean.

They are responsible for meeting their quotas and gleaning in a non-prejudiced way that reflects the mortality of the old world. They are simultaneously feared and revered, for as well as being able to take a life they can also grant immunity.

This is such a fascinating concept, one that captured my imagination and I found quite thought-provoking. We follow two main characters, Cintra and Rowan, who both find themselves with an opportunity to become scythes and thus secure their family’s immunity from gleaning.

Taken on as apprentices, they must prove themselves in order to attain the position of Junior Scythe. As they become involved in the Scythedom they realise that there’s more to being a Scythe than meets the eye, with unrest within the Scythedom itself.

I really loved this book – every aspect, from the world building and characters to the storytelling itself had me enraptured. I’m absolutely desperate to get my hands on book 2, Thunderhead. This post first appeared on my blog.

This is a book I didn’t really know how to rate because I feel like the first half of the book could have one rating, like 2. 75 stars, and the second half of the book could have a higher rating, like 4, so I’m going with 3.

5 lol. Like most books out there, it doesn’t really get into the action until about halfway, and that is when the stakes truly raise and you can’t put the book down. The plot itself is very interesting with the way humans have advanced so that death is nearly nonexistent, and the Scythedom is very intricate and well thought out.

It isn’t until the middle that I really was hooked though. Up until something actually big happened about three-quarters in did I decide that this book needed more stars. It was slow, yes, but I also just felt like why should I care? It was hard to see a real direction that the story was going to take, which is great for most books, but didn’t suit this one too well at first.

But when the book picked up, it was amazing with so many twists! It was dangerous and risky and unpredictable. As for the characters, they also felt pretty dull and two-dimensional until that three-quarter point as well.

I can tell the next book will be better since it is more established now, and I really look forward to what the characters have to offer in Thunderhead. I actually didn’t like Citra at first, I found her selfish and a little narrow minded, but goes through well-needed character development.

Rowan goes through this, also, and the difference between both characters in the beginning and the end is enormous. You can barely see them as the same people. Rowan was, by far, my favorite character of the book because he was the most complicated and conflicted, and he was probably the most human.

His choices may be slightly unfavorable, especially when it comes to Citra, but it’s leads to an amazing story. Citra’s family also makes it into the book, and they were actually loving parents! That is so rare in a book to have both living parents and loving parents! We need more of this in YA because not every family is broken and resentful.

Her parents were still selfish, which may be where Citra got it, but they were reasonably selfish – as in it is understandable why they were how they were. Romance is nearly never involved in the book, and when it is, it is very limited.

It suits this book and the circumstances, but you all know me, I’m looking for the romance lol. In all, it was an entertaining book that makes you think about the world and where it’s heading. I don’t really have too much to say, so this isn’t a very good review, but I do hope it helped in some way! Despite it’s shortcomings, I would still recommend this book if only for the philosophical meaning.

I love this whole amazing magical series! Tui T Sutherland had managed to make the best books in the world! If you didn’t know this book is based on Qibli’s perspective. You meet his family and understand more about him and his life including his crush on Moon.

(Pretty sad) He helps his friends stop the prophecy, and defeat Darkstalker with a bit of animus magic in a really weird way. (But also kind of cute) (you will see what I mean).

One of the only book series to hook my reluctant readers attention. Action, adventure, mystery, intrigue and of course Dragons! This series has it all!

Thank you for having this plus a box set of the first 5 books too! I know I ordered another one as well in which I will set a review on but this along with the other books I ordered for my son was shipped well and in a perfect sized box to hold them to be received in to our hands.

I haven’t read this book yet. I love all the Terry Pratchetts books I’ve read so far, so am hoping this will be as good.

Great way to explore current scientific issues, clearly explained and very relevant

This book is on my pile of Books I Have Yet to Read. It is second from the top. I am a big fan of Sir Terry Pratchett, OBE, so I’m sure this will be a great book.

I will not comment here on the actual story of Dune as it is a classic and there is a plethora of reviews and comments that you can easily see. I will however talk about this edition of Dune, this book is stunning.

I currently have 3 editions of Dune and this is the only one that is on actual display, and the only book in all my collection that is Cover facing out as opposed to spine. The dust jacket on this book is beautiful, the colours are stunning and align beautifully to latest movie reboot.

This is followed up by just as beautiful artwork on the inside of the Dust jacket and inside the cover. The cover and spine where could ahve just been left blank with all the work already put into the dust jacket, is very tastefully done in gold on the spine and plain black embossing on the cover, quoting one of the more memorable quotes from the book.

The page edging done in a blue beautifully represents the Fremen eyes and complements the metalic orange of the cover. Overall the book itself is a classic and if you are looking for your first copy or another copy to add to your collection this is the must buy edition.

Absolutely gorgeous. It’s so lustrous. I don’t think the photos do it justice. In my opinion, it’s even better than the Penguin Galaxy Edition. It’s a must for collectors of beautiful books.

What an absolute mind binder! This book took me on a journey from point A to point B in a way I never saw coming. I have never been so invested in a story before. Filled with characters that absolutely jumped from the pages as their dreams, desires, fears and failures consumed me.

“Life is nothing how he expected it would be when he was young and living under the delusion that things could be controlled. Nothing ca be controlled. Only endured. ” I thought I knew what I was getting into when I began this book.

Now that I’ve finished it, I wonder how the heck this author did this to me. I definitely feel as if I’ve been tossed out into the universe, reeled back in, only to be tossed out again, repeatedly. While my brain feels like mush and I’m sure I’ll have a book hangover, I already want to jump into this world again and again.

This is a story that will captivate you from the first page to the last. I do not consider this a romance, although there is a wonderful romance that runs through a portion of this story, one that actually made my heart beat faster because of what these characters had to endure.

It’s actually one of the most beautiful tales of love I’ve ever read when you break the story down. I urge you to go in blind with nothing but the blurb to guide you. If sci-fi, super science stories are your thing, you definitely need to look into this one.

I wasn’t expecting this book to be one of my new favorites. I love oarado\ time travel movies like terminator, triangle, predestination, back to the future, deja vu, the butterfly effect, groundhog day, in the shadow of the moon, and the tv series DARK.

, so I was blown away to read this book. I’d describe it as closer to butterfly effect, than groundhog day. Enjoy.

This is one of my favorite books of all time. I read this in two days and immediately got Dark Matter afterwards. (Which is also fantastic. ) I heard this is being adapted by Shonda Rhimes (!!!) for Netflix and I absolutely cannot wait for that.

Seriously. buy this book. It’s SO good.

I have always enjoyed C. S. Lewis’ books about Narnia, as a child and even as an adult. I have read and re-read them over and over again. When I found out Lewis wrote books geared more towards adults, such as this three book series, I jumped at the chance to read them! Absolutely LOVED this book and the two after it.

Great read and goes fast too. I highly recommend this book for anybody who loves C. S. Lewis and wants to read something different by him!.

I had been an avid C. S. Lewis fan for most of my life. I had “The Chronicles of Narnia” read to me as a child, and when I was older, reread them again. I have also enjoyed his other writings such as “The Great Divorce” “Screwtape Letters” and “Till we have faces” Then recently, I got my hands on “Out of the Silent Planet” and it quickly went into my favorites by Lewis.

I highly recommend this book. I have read it three times already, and plan to read the series many more times in my life.

This trilogy is simply majestic on every level. It has a depth of imagination and adventure which captivates from the outset. Classic Lewis!

Dune is one of those rear books that can be revisited and reread every 10 years or so, starting from when about 15, and of reading it wall offer up a new experience with new ideas to grapple with. Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune should all be read to Muad’dib’s whole story.

Then as an epilogue to all of them God Emperor of Dune needs to be read to understand Muad’dib’s vision and burden and the sacrifice his Son finally made. As a work of Science Fiction this is one of the best to expand on Psychology, Political and Social Science, Evolution, and Ecology.

These are the hard sciences it dives into. Very few authors and works have done this as well Frank Herbert in the Dune sager and in his other works.

I usually prefer to grab an old used paperback when digging into the classics, but the design of this hardcover book was so elegant that I just had to get it! One really surprising detail I discovered is that the lettering on the cover is a foil inlay that shimmers in the light.

Plus, the back cover has a variation of the word “Dune” that I almost prefer to the front cover’s design! (See the photos for more). I’ve never been so happy to own a hardback edition of a book. Really pleased with this decision.

I bought the book because it is about to be turned into a film (again) and i am a fan of Tim Chalamet, who will play Paul Atrides in the film. When I began reading, I forgot about the film and enjoyed the book for itself.

Sci-fi is not my thing, but I loved Dune. It’s not an easy read, which is why I read it twice and took notes. Does that sound geeky? There is good character development, good flow, good dialogue and the reader is always firmly grounded in a “real” place.

That is, it has all the positive attributes of a well-done novel. Although the book is over 50 years old, it is just as relevant and fresh as it was in 1965. I bought another copy to give my oldest granddaughter (another Chalamet fan) for Christmas.

I strongly recommend the book.

The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy projects, what I believe, the movies were supposed to portray. The movies essentially failed; the books did not. In fact, I would call them an unqualified success. They provide vital insight and extra plot lines that make the stories the movies tried to tell make sense.

These books are Star Wars genuine – just as good as the BOOKS from the original series. I’m not sure why – unless one did read it carefully – one would rate the prequel trilogy anything below three stars.

My four-star rating, however, is solid. Are the books literary masterpieces like Great Expectations or The Great Gatsby? Of course not; those types of books garner the five-star rating or better (if there was such a thing).

Nevertheless, the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy books are entertaining, informative, and a feast for Star Wars fans.

I really like this book. Only negative is every so many pages there tends to be a minor crease that runs vertically.

My kids really enjoy the books in this series. Theyve read the entire book in a day. Honestly though I have no idea about the content.

While an amazing story, at the beginning I was resistant to the narrative. There is a lot of information to process, and the writing style feels dry, or sparse, making it hard to connect with our protagonist, Darrow.

‘Red Rising’ read like an institutionalised Lord of the Flies on a futuristic Mars. Brutal. Darrow is a complex protagonist, but there is something hinted at in the narrative, at to how his destiny is shaped the way it is, but not revealed.

I think this is a major part that stopped me from truly connecting with him. The novel is full of puppet masters pulling strings – and Darrow is ultimately just another pawn. I never felt his motivations and actions were truly his own.

But I love an underdog story, someone fighting against insurmountable odds, so I was invested in his story though not truly convinced by his convictions. The friendships formed – especially in the school, were barbarous and endearing.

I see it in my best friend and his buddies that were in the S. A. S. together, there is a certain type of connection that is formed on the battlefield that nothing can break, and others will not truly understand.

Piece Brown captured that comradery perfectly. I may have rated ‘Red Rising’ higher, because it is truly a tremendous tale, but if not for my issues connecting with the writing style, and near boredom through two thirds of the novel.

But aside from that, it is a magnificent book that others may find outstanding. The writing style was sparse, dry, distinctly masculine. Even though the protagonist is male, something about the narrative made it difficult for me to immerse myself into the Martian landscape.

I was frequently putting the book down for a rest or lack of interest. The last third of the novel, however, is an entirely different creature. The pacing is gripping, and so is the plot with all its twists and turns.

The cast start to show their true colours and get tested. I was truly riveted and could not put the book down.

Let me just start off by saying I cannot think of anything to say about this book that has not already been said. I absolutely fell in love with Pierce Brown and Red Rising. I will be continuing on to Golden Son after completing this review.

I was really looking forward to Pierce Brown’s debut dystopian Red Rising because it had glowing reviews from bloggers I trust thrown out left and right and surprisingly I wish that I would have listened.

Red Rising was BLOODYDAMN fantastic! It was imaginative unique violent and well written. It had elements of science fiction military strategy survival and dealt with classism in a way I’ve never seen.

The story follows Darrow who is a Red the lowest social class. He and the rest of the Reds are forced to mine the surface of Mars to make it habitable for the rest of the social classes. The book launches with Darrow recalling his life status and family.

After losing the life he so fondly remember only pages ago Darrow soon discovers that it’s all a lie that Mars has been habitable for generations. He becomes in league with the rebels who integrate him into an elaborate plan involving the ruling class of Golds.

This starts Darrow’s need to revenge his life and all he lost. I was unsure about the book at first because I couldn’t see how Darrow’s situation would allow much room for any kind of revolution but fortunately Darrow didn’t spend much time as a Red and the novel didn’t take the direction I expected.

His adventures were cut short by tragedy and the book took off once the group of rebels took him up to the surface and basically turned him into Gold. He had a lot to learn about the world which was helpful to me since the book just kind of threw me into Darrow’s world and then tilted the world he thought he knew upside down.

The bulk of the story took place in the Gold command school where Darrow attended. The students were the best of the best of the Golds and were being tested to find out how high in the social structure they could be.

I hate to give too much of the story away but it’s hard because the story explored so many things. Each direction or topic that was thrown in was actually explored. The beginning was reminiscent of Ray Bradbury to me because of his obsession with Mars and the way he explored what life on the planet might be like.

I enjoyed that part. The part where the rebels turn Darrow into a Gold was definitely the most sci-fi aspect of the book and showed me just what kind of technology was available and gave me insight into how the world was divided by class and ‘color’ of the people.

And the bulk of the story was incredible. The first challenge was brutal but nothing compared to the brutality of the second and longest challenge. Their situation was similar to The Hunger Games but when I say that hear me out.

It’s not just a bunch of people killing each other to win that barely skims the surface of what that might actually be like. It was much much more complicated than that. It was what THG could have been if it had actually gone deeper into the psychology of being stuck in the games and forced to kill people make alliances keep those shaky alliances and win.

It was violent gory psychologically damaging to the players and was an elaborate game of survival and chess. If this book is like THG it would only be if THG was written for adults who aren’t buying the situation just because the author says it’s like that.

Red Rising is what a truly epic sci-fi dystopian novel should strive to be. I’m full of questions and there were many points where I thought the class system was actually kind of smart despite the unfairness to people who aren’t Golds.

I love the way it explored each aspect. The only flaw of the novel is Darrow’s perfectness but the author wasn’t afraid to make him truly suffer so it wasn’t as if he was untouchable. I highly recommend Red Rising and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

I have had this on my Kindle for months and I’m glad I finally picked it up. However Red Rising isn’t for everyone. It’s brutal and violent and I can’t stress that enough. If you’re used to the pretty dystopian worlds of YA where suffering is minimal Red Rising might be too much.

First of a trilogy this book is all about revolution and love. Darrow has spent his entire life as a miner living underground on Mars. Part of a colony whose job is to mine Helium all of the miners have been told for many years that the surface is uninhabitable.

They are helping to build a new human society on Mars. Doubts enter into Darrow’s mind after his wife is murdered by the brutal sadistic government. Recruited by a secret underground group Darrow learns that for the past couple of hundred years the miners have been Really Lied To.

The usual revolt would be crushed within a couple of days so Darrow is given a different assignment. Months are spent turning him into a member of the elite class both physically and mentally. He is to infiltrate the elite class and become one of them.

After he has risen to a senior position in the regime then he will bring it down from the inside. Along with a couple of dozen other young people Darrow becomes a student at an institute to decide the next member of the ruling class.

Split into several groups they are each assigned to a castle in a river valley and told to go from there. What follows is a Hunger Games-style competition with real casualties to winnow down the field.

Darrow shows real leadership and plenty of guts. Another student the son of one of the rulers is supposed to win but Darrow isn’t going to follow along. Does Darrow pull off an unauthorized win? Does he even survive? This one is a gem of a story.

It has everything; a brutal government and dystopian society growing revolution young people and some possibilities for romance. It also has an easy to read story. This is very much worth reading.

This book will forever stand as one of my favorites of all time. I read this in middle school and fell in love with it. The characters, the plot, the overall concept is AMAZING. 10/10 recommend it for anyone to read!.

You will fall in love with the children in this book pretty quickly. It’s a captivating story about young kids who are experiments from a lab so there is something very special about them. It’s a easy read and it’s funny.

Definitely one of my favorite series of books.

I just finished this book, and I really enjoyed it. Some of it was almost painful to read, especially the parts that graphically detail torturing children. This reminds me of “Firestarter” with the whole supernatural powers and bad guys trying to use them vibe.

I did have a few issues with the book. The entire time I was reading I couldn’t help but think that I would have fought back much harder, had I been kidnapped and taken to the Institute. I realize they are children and are being psychologically as well as physically traumatized, but I would have raaaaaaged against all of these people.

my other issue was that after opening with Tim and detailing his relocation to DuPray, he is then entirely forgotten about and ignored until the end of the book. His role was extremely predictable, as well, although I did enjoy his character.

Would almost have liked to read an entire novel on just him. Altogether, this was an enjoyable read, and I would recommend it to any King fans or readers looking for a dark, intense, good vs bad supernatural story.

I love the King-dom! I felt the same way after finishing this book as I did the first time I read ‘Carrie’; I need to read every book Stephen King ever writes. After being kidnapped in the middle of the night, Luke awakens in a bedroom that’s almost identical to his own.

He’s in the Front Half of the Institute and that’s where his nightmare really begins. I was always going to adore Luke. He’s beyond genius level smart but he’s also a wonderful friend and someone I’d enjoy talking with, plus he’s an avid reader.

Fortunately (or not, depending on how you look at it), Luke’s not alone in Front Half. There are a revolving door of kids and the core group of these become somewhat of a found family (I love found family stories!), supporting one another as they attempt to navigate their bizarre new reality.

I’m always ready to cheer on a group of people who are railing against injustice. The fact that this group were kids with telekinetic or telepathic abilities who had been kidnapped and experimented on only served to add more oomph to my armchair cheerleading.

I loved to hate most of the Institute’s staff, with the exception of Maureen. It’s easy to despise anyone even tangentially involved in harming children. However, it always amazes me that Stephen King can add greys to what I know to only exist in black and white.

While I was appalled at their treatment of the children under the “care”, I was intrigued by the psychology that had to play out within the individual staff members; what was it about them that made them behave the way they did?? What unknown overarching purpose of the Institute could possibly warrant them believing the methods they used were anything close to approximating okay? I could almost see Mulder and Scully in the periphery of this book.

This investigation would be right up their alley. I can’t wait for my next King fix! Content warnings are included in my Goodreads review.

With the first book of this 4-book series coming out when the writer was only 15 years old, you may expect the Inheritance series to be 2500+ pages of trainwreck. These books are everything but! If you like Harry Potter, LOTR, and other books about adventure and magic, then you will definitely enjoy Eragon and his journey.

This is a good series for young adults. There are a few slower portions here and there, but the overall story is full of action, love, family, and coming-of-age tales.

Such a pretty book set. It was delivered super fast and great packaging to ensure it didn’t arrive damaged. I’m very happy!

Here’s a book that boys and girls from grades five through eight absolutely lkove. It’s the first of many in a series by Haddix known as the Shadow Children series. In the future, limited resources have forced the government to impose a two-child limit on each family.

Violators are punished severely by a tyrannical government. From the time he is a boy, Luke learns that he must stay hidden from sight at all times, as he was born to a family with two children. Because Luke can’t go out in public, he is not able to go to school and lives in an attic.

He isn’t allowed to enter some rooms of the house for fear that he’ll be seen and the family will be prosecuted. As a result, Luke leads a very lonely life. Home alone one day, Luke discovers a small opening in his attic that allows him to see the new neighborhood close by.

He notices that one house seems to have some activity during the day, despite the fact that the family of four leaves every morning. On his own, Luke discovers Jen–the third child who lives in that house.

He proves his bravery by leaving the only world he’s ever known to meet this other third child. Jen turns out to be an activist for third children, and she encourages Luke to engage in some of her own risky behavior to secure the rights of third children.

This book, while controversial in theme, is easily understood by many different middle school readers. The subsequent books are encouraging to reluctant readers–they’ve finally found a series of books they like! Haddix’s other books are also of impressive depth and quality.

The story is a fascinating take on a restricted number of children law. It’s believable in a heart wrenching way and will remain on my bookshelf for years to come.

I really, really enjoy these books! I purchased the series for my children, and found out that I can’t put them down once I start reading! Great Author and I would highly recommend them for kids and adults alike! GOOD, CLEAN, ENTERTAINING,ACTION PACKED and THOUGHT PROVOKING!.

A classic for a reason- each chapter and story told from a different perspective complement one another and slowly develop a compelling universe, converging for a satisfying crescendo. Can’t wait for the rest of this series and where it will take me.

Only issue though is with Booktopia’s app, which I recommend you avoid like the plague.

While I am only 75% of the way through the first book of the four in this series, I am really enjoying it. Dan Simmons’ world creation is brilliant; complex and thorough with some really intriguing plots.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sci-fi.

I am only at page 30 and I already have an idea about how the story will unfold. I’d love to be proven wrong. I read this book exceptionally slow, moves my fantasy a lot and makes me thinking. In that respect I have read another book like this recently: Financial Turmoil in Europe and the United States: Essays (Copyright Gyorgy Soros), that one is a bit less fiction however.
