20 Best Saw For Cutting 2X4 (2023 Updated)

I bought this product a couple of days ago because I needed something like this to strip siding off of my home. I am in the process of adding an extension onto my bathroom to get more space. I had considered another brand and almost bought it.

However, this product had more flexibility in features that I thought I might need someday buy did not think I needed it for my current project. The first thing I noticed was the “tightness” of the product.

The blade went on snugly, the angle plate was snug, and guide went in and secured easily and firmly. I found myself using the angle adjustment feature a lot more than I expected. The setting and latching of the angle was easy to do and did not shift during the cut.

The power was adequate for the job I had. I cut 2 X 4s without any hesitation in the cut. One thing I did notice was that my hands are not large so I had to remember to use my longest finger to wrap around the saw for one-hand operation.

Not a big deal for me after that and I found I could control the saw more accurately that way, anyway. Great product. I will be using this saw for a LOT of my projects in the future. I guess the best I can say about this product is that it does what I expect it to do, does it easily, does it precisely, and at a great price.

every thing about this is great, like the saw, BUT THE GUIDE IS POOR. It needs to be redesigned for squareness and straight cuts when I tried to use it it was not able to be used As Is, had to bend it to match blade line.

After several trying I got it almost straight. would not work with 1/4″ material Ok for 3/4 material but difficult to make it cut square end cuts. Like the screw adjusting lock but the guide is so poor I had to use a 48″ squaring guide and lock bar to guide the saw for straight 24″ and under cuts.

(If I had a 24 guide I might have used that instead. ) Also for making the nice left hand viewing of cut, the base of saw is slightly too short when aligning blade to cut and at same time keeping the saw in straight cut.

I used a 8″ square to align but found it difficult to hold true to markings on 1 x 3 material. I bought this saw at Lowes LHC and bought the 4. 5 inch as they carried that size replacement blades, would like to have a higher tooth count blade for some applications.

had some tear outs on some birch and pine Perhaps a plywood blade would be nice. This saw is a replacement for a Sears 7. 25 that aged out and died after 30 years. Sort of matches me. in aging out. The safety feature for punching the red side button and then the trigger is not placed well, should be able to punch one and then pull trigger with same finger.

I bought this saw for a specific reason, which it did an okay job. I don’t see myself using this saw for many other jobs as the reliability and quality are simply not there. The edge guide locking system does NOT hold the edge guide tight, therefore don’t expect a long straight cut.

The laser guide helps a bit, but a person has to keep in mind that the saw’s small cutting blade will make it difficult to have a long straight cut. The same can be said regarding the depth of a cut, it’s limited.

I found the saw manageable in terms of weight, but heavier than it looks. The trigger switches were simple enough and worked without any problem. Blade changing could have been better thought out. The exhaust shoot when hooked up to a ShopVac worked well in reducing the sawdust.

The soft side case is worthless and would have preferred a hard-shelled plastic case for storage. Overall, I don’t see using this saw much, other than for small limited jobs and other jobs I can think of better saws with higher quality cutting that would do a better job for the same or less money.

It was an expensive saw given the limited uses. I will likely sell this saw via some online market place service, now that my job is done and try and recover some of my money lost.

I just bought the saw and haven’t used it yet, so my current review is incomplete. I will update my review after I get a chance to use it, but I haven’t gotten that far because the instructions are minimal.

For the most part, the instructions seem to consist of just illustrations with no explanation or written details. From the first illustration — which I think is meant to tell the customer how to insert and remove the blades — I can’t figure out what it is trying to convey.

If they update their instruction booklet to include ACTUAL text that details and explains how to use the tool — that would be super. In the meantime, my saw just sits there looking pretty, but until I figure out what the drawing means I am stuck without using the saw!.

I’ve had this saw for about 4 years, and only use it occasionally. However, this is a really valuable tool when doing precision work! I’m a “mostly-retired” tile contractor. This is perfect for cut-outs for plugs& switches, sink cut- outs, etc.

where you need clean smooth & controlled cut. The plunge-cut capability is awesome, but make sure you hold on tight, cause this little guy has a surprising amount of torque! Practice on a scrap piece first so you know where your cut will be once the blade goes into the material.

Lots of blade choices available, but for tile or stone, continuous-rim is a necessity! Buy the best blades you can find for it and you will be glad you did! JoeC.

It’s a great saw for structural metal studs. It’s almost like cutting wood studs with a regular saw. The jobsite I work on requires a fire watch when ever you use any tool that creates sparks, however this saw does a good enough job of capturing the steel filings that they don’t require me to waste a man’s time just standing there watching sparks fly like you would with a chop saw.

It’s nice that you don’t have to feed the material to the saw like a chop saw, you can just put you studs on a set of horses and use it like a regular power saw. I would definitely recommend ear protection, because cutting heavy 16 gauge studs is extremely loud.

Eye protection is a given, the saw even comes with goggles. The only CON I have is that when you are purchasing the saw they don’t go into any detail about what you can cut and what blade you need for your particular application.

It was just a fluke that I purchased an extra 48 tooth blade, and that is exactly the blade I needed for cutting 16 gauge metal studs. They don’t even tell you if the saw comes with a blade, let alone how many teeth it has.

The saw comes with a 36 tooth blade, but it is not suited for 16 gauge stud material. the advertising should show you a blade chart like the one that came with my extra blade.

This is a quality tool that is still made in Japan. Base is made from stainless steel. I used this to cut multiple sheets of 14 ga CRS steel stack 1. 5” high. The cut is clean with minimal sparking. The blade ( made in PRC) that came with the tool did not last that long, and was replace with 7-1/4 Diablo 2 48 T metal cutting blade.

I’ve used this to cut 1/4 and 3/8″ plate and it works great. Doesn’t leave any dross like plasma or a torch so there is no cleanup after cutting. Leaves a nice clean cut, its comfortable feeling and well made.

Replacement blades for this saw seem to be impossible to find. I live in Kansas City. I have access to Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Menards. NONE of these stores carry a 4 5″ metal cutting blade with a 3/8″ arbor.

Menards carries the 3-3/8″ saw, but not the 4. 5″ saw. The Worx web site has a set of blades WA8502 — but they are “Out of Stock”. Seems as though my 4. 5″ saw is unusable for the job I need it for.

Disappointing. I own several WORX tools, but will choose carefully before I buy another.

I bought this specifically to rip 4Ft X 8Ft T1-11 siding because those pieces of siding are like steel and weigh about 60 pounds each and I thought it would be easier to rip and cut them on the concrete (elevated on 2 X 4’s) instead of lifting them up to a table saw.

I find 10 or 12 inch circular saws very clumsy and heavy and NEVER cut straight and I was looking for something new. The Worxsaw worked so well the cuts in the siding all look like they were done on a table saw.

The saw did want to get stuck and sort of kick back a few times on the first piece of siding but I soon found out it was because I had set the blade depth too deep. I changed the cut depth to a fraction more than the thickness of the siding and it cut fine from that point on and a lot faster.

The cuts were perfectly straight, smooth, and easy. After I ripped and cut all the siding I needed I was so impressed I quit using my circular miter saw for cutting other wood. Work really went fast after that.

Cutting 2X4’s to length was quick and perfect straight cuts. If you don’t try to force the saw, it tends to cut a straight line even without a guide. I then ripped 2X4’s for screening lath using the edge guide that came with it and they were perfect.

The wood was so smooth where it was cut it almost looked like it had been planed or sanded. Then I did a plunge cut for a window type AC in the siding that was flawless. As if that was not enough, this saw is super light and half as loud as the circular saw.

I was moving around the job site with the Worxsaw tool doing the work of three people with older shop tools. I could not be more pleased. This Worxsaw is a high quality product that saved me hours and BIG money on the project.

I doubt I will ever use my heavy clunky noisy circular miter saw again.

I went back and forth on this saw for some time, I didn’t want to limit myself and I was worried that I would regret not getting a bigger circular saw. My Dad has a Rockwell 4. 5″ circular saw (made by the same Positec tools company that makes Worx tools) that he swears by and urged me to give it a try before making a decision.

In the past I’ve used my battery operated compact circular saws that did ok for a quick trim on thin plywood but wouldn’t be up for my bookshelf project that had in mind, so I was a little skeptical but figured I’d try it.

I tried the Rockwell saw and found that it had plenty of power to rip through a sheet of 3/4″ plywood without hesitation, and the smaller size made it easier to manage for crosscutting 6-10″ boards. I decided that this was plenty of saw for me and decided to give the Worx saw a try.

When it arrived I put it to work right away, making rips on full sheets of 3/4″ plywood using the included rip fence. It tore through the wood without hesitation and the included blade made clean cuts with minimal tear out.

I have large hands and did not find the grip difficult to manage, but if you had smaller hands it might be an issue as it is larger in diameter. I like the placement of the safety, just flip it back to ready the saw and then I use my pinky finger to squeeze the power switch and get things going.

The saw is accurate and the cut lines up with the mark on the shoe as it should. the depth of cut is easy to adjust and the marks are accurate as well. The rip fence was easy to use and can be adjusted with the same allen wrench that is kept on the cord, so it’s not necessary to stop and find another tool.

I am unsure of the long term longevity of this piece. The plastic piece that runs along the edge of the material seems to be attached to the metal bar by some sort of melted plastic rivet. Either way it appears to be a fair standard size so an aftermarket rip fence could probably be substituted if necessary.

My impression of the tool is that it is well made and a good value especially considering the reasonable price. Is this tool pro quality? Well, that depends, I’ve known pros that take good care of their tools and could make even the cheapest lightweight tool last years, and I’ve know others that consider it almost a challenge to try and break a tool.

I am careful with my tools and rarely have one drop on the floor or take any hard abuse, and this saw seems to be stout enough that if it fell off my workbench it would probably survive just fine. The blade shroud is not metal as I originally thought from the pictures, but is instead a gray plastic.

The shoe is a stamped metal unit that has a little play in the tilt/depth of cut mechanism, but not enough to affect accuracy (if an ultra high degree of accuracy is necessary, a hand held circular saw isn’t the right tool anyway).

I have concerns about the safety switch, I could see it breaking off if the saw fell on it, so that might be something to be concerned about. I’ll wrap up my review with a mention of the vacuum port.

This is a nice feature that you don’t see on a lot of saws of this nature. Most of the time I don’t bother with it, but if I’m working indoors and want to minimize my mess, this does a good job of catching the majority of the sawdust generated from a cut when I attach my shop vac to it via a neck down adapter.

It is a bit more awkward with the big hose on the side, but I will probably get a smaller extension hose at some point and that will make it less cumbersome. Overall, this is plenty of saw for DIY projects around the house, I’m happy with my purchase!.

This small handheld circular saw is great for cutting sheet board material (not kitchen work tops) It’s easy to use and guide whilst cutting. Blades are easily changeable although I’m still cutting with the blade provided.

It’s relatively light weight but strong enough to hand most jobs.

I have two of these saws !!, the mini and the slightly larger one, they are both amazing saws and I wouldn’t be without one now !. as they are a very, very handy bit of kit ! With the right blade, they make cutting 8 mm thick aluminium plate a breeze and they are very good for flooring and quick small cutting jobs, especially laminate flooring ! The laser works well to align the blade with the cutting line.

Would I recommend buying a Worx compact mini circular saw ? – YES ! MOST DEFINITELY !!!.

I made a successful cut of 4. 5 meters through chipboard flooring, using the plunging method as specified in the instructions. The second cut I made, using the same technique, the guard suddenly flipped back and jammed in the plate.

Obviously, I disconnected from power. Not knowing what to do, I tried to free the guard, then managed to remove the blade with difficulty. A screw and a little rubber sleeve fell out. Such a pity – otherwise a nice little compact tool.

I love having a reliable cordless punch out saw. My only critique is that the same red light for defective battery on the makita battery charger is the same red light to indicate the fan is on. Someone up in engineering should get slapped for that.

Otherwise I love this saw!.

I was putting up a metal frame for my fence that I was replacing. I used a reciprocating saw to cut the metal. It was not the best way, but it worked. Then I bought a metal cutting blade for my miter saw.

That was ok too, but not the best. Finally finished the fence and started another metal framed project. Decided I needed to go ahead and spend the $$$ and try this saw out. I love Makita, have a lot of their 18v cordless tools.

Well, like the title says, shoulda bought this a long time ago! First time I used it, it went through a 1/8″ thick x 4″ wide piece of steel like butter. And no sparks!! I started a grass fire in my backyard once with sparks.

Used it to finish my project a lot faster. Definitely one of my better purchases, when it comes to tools!! Better yet, it’s brushless. Love it since it is small and compact. Having the clear plastic in the front really helps visually and keeps a lot of the hot metal pieces from flying around everywhere.

If you want a tool for cutting metal, I highly recommend this one. No electrical cords to deal with.

I’ve only had mine for a short while but as is pretty happy with product. The ergonomics and function are great as is the norm on Makita. The efficiency or battery life to be specific is not very good, especially considering it is brushless.

On the brighter side the saw has a small light on front and a battery and duty indicator. I would recommend this saw to anyone who needs to cut steel up to half inch thick for short durations. Buy the biggest battery you can get 3 ah do not last long in this beast.

Always use safety goggles as well has a shroud but still throws sparks and frags.

Nice bit of kit. Cuts smoothly and easily through Oak. Ripped it down to 75mm posts without a stutter. Feels powerful but comfortable to use. It says soft start but it isn’t as smooth as previous soft start machines.

It has a little kick on start-up. Width guide isn’t quite straight which is annoying but probably a bit of brute force will fix it. The machine itself appears well built and sturdy. It has good supports for the angle cuts and height adjustment is simple but there are no actual measurement guides.

Reliability score is mid range as I haven’t had it long enough to know, but the 3 year extended warranty proves they think it will last okay.

I must say this saw is larger than expected. I thought this saw would need assembling, but once out of the box, its pre done. Overall, good performance. Saw might seem a lot of money for some, but its a Dewalt, a saw that is built to last.

Quite a beast, good size but not too heavy. Easy to use and does a good job.

I always have the short cables removed that come with new 110V tools and replace with 110V cable usually 12. metres long. When my electrician took the handle apart to fit the new longer cable he found when it was put together in the factory that the live cable to the trigger switch had been caught up and nearly crushed flat.

I wonder how many other tools from this company have similar problems. I had not seen this company advertising their range before and it looked good value and I particulary liked the handle position far back on the body, much like a lot of american saws.

I will not be buying any other tools from them.

This saw is excellent- not only does it do the job magnificently but it comes complete with safety goggles and ear plugs – a nice thought. It can be thoroughly recommended.
