A sander is a power tool that is used to remove paint from a deck. It is a handheld tool that has a rotating sanding pad that is covered in abrasive material. The sander is turned on and the abrasive pad is moved over the surface of the deck.
The abrasive material removes the paint from the deck.

The Bosch ROS20VSC 5 In. Random Orbit Sander/Polisher delivers fast removal and a well-blended, ultra-smooth finish, so woodworkers and finish carpenters can sand quickly and to exacting standards. It is designed to eliminate swirl marks on the workpiece, thanks to an integral pad dampening braking system.
Bosch’s signature HookTight hook-and-loop disc attachment ensure firm grip of the disc during use. Additionally, the microcellular backing pad is pliable to ensure a smooth, fine finish on both flat and contoured surfaces alike.
With a comfortable soft-grip top and body design, this tool has variable-speed control from between 7,500 and 12,000 OPM to match the speed to the task. It also includes an on-board system for filtering fine dust.
I have always used vibration sanders. I wanted to try a random orbital sander. I love it. I’m female so I look at power tools a little differently. It’s not hard on your hands. Yet it’s powerful. Doesn’t mark wood like some sanders do.
Love the velcro pads. Easy to change. Highly recommended.
I use this with a very fine finish in a buffing like mode. When sanding I have two, the other a Makita. The Makita seems to have a more aggressive attack and I use it with more course papers to work a project down.
so this Bosch is used as a finisher before hand rubbing. It has an awesome vacuum system and blows the dust out the tube very well. In fact the best I have encountered for dust removal. You must use the attached bag/paper filter with it, or the supplied attachment with your shop blower.
I use the shop blower. Dust is my main concern in my shop. I suppose this Bosch would also work as an aggressive machine as well, I just use it for finishing, and it does an awesome job. I have no cons other than the fact it could use a more forward hold down for the second hand for support.
Otherwise, no complaints. I like both my machines for sanding, each with its own purpose and both work very well. This sander is one of my better buys. I do recommend highly. I do scroll saw work and need to fine sand, sometimes with up to 1000 grit papers.
The Bosch sander works well for this. A fine machine.
Mirka electric sanders are unique, lightweight and feature a compact design. Their optimized ergonomics make them comfortable to grip and easy to use, while the low profile design gives a high maneuverability and helps to deliver precise and efficient sanding performance.
The innovative brushless electric motor is powerful enough to maintain a constant speed under load. Mirka’s electric sanders are also virtually silent in operation, cheap to run and require minimal maintenance.
The Mirka Deros 6″ DC Compact Random Orbital Sander is the first ever electric sanding machine with a brushless motor and no external power supply. The main’s voltage is 100V – 120V. It is also the lightest electric machine on the market.
Mirka’s Deros 6″ DC Compact ROS has a soft start function, a built-in electronic motor brake and a smooth, easy-to-operate lever to control motor speed. Thanks to its high efficiency brushless motor, the Mirka Deros 6″ DC Compact ROS also has a plenty of power to get the job done quickly.
Its performance is comparable to a conventional 500W electric machine, which ensures it maintains a constant speed, even under heavy load. The unique symmetrical design makes it comfortable whether it’s being used in the left hand or the right hand, and the longer body provides the option of a two-handed grip.
After 30+ hours of usage I can say that this sander is unlike any other. I have used Bosch and DeWalt sanders ranging from the cheapest to the most expensive and I have always hated sanding, but not anymore.
This sander is low vibration and very lightweight, plus the low profile really helps the sander stay completely flat on the surface. Other sanders are much taller and I often get uneven results because they’re almost top heavy, but the Mirka just glides across the wood and leaves a perfectly flat surface, even after several grit changes.
Note, my first unit jumped all over the place (much like my DeWalt), but Acme very quickly and graciously exchanged it for me and the new unit is super smooth. Also note, at first I wasn’t realizing the true benefits of this sander, but for some reason I decided to use one of my Bosch sanders for a while and when I went back to the Mirka I felt like I was in heaven.
So if you’re not thrilled at first, do your own comparison and you’ll know right away if you made the right choice.
Powerful Makita built motor delivers (4,500 RPM) with compressed winding technology to keep the overall size more compact yet deliver jobsite durability. Magnesium components create a lightweight saw (13.
2 lbs. ) that is well-balanced and jobsite tough. Retractable hook allows tool to remain close by, but never in the way. High quality, heat treated hypoid steel gears do not prematurely wear like traditional bronze-alloy worm drive gears.
I bought this to replace a 1/4 sheet sander. This is much easier to replace the paper and holds it securely. I find that my paper is lasting longer. (The 1/4 sheet sander required me to tuck the paper around the plate making 2 90 degree folds on each end.
The paper was tearing long before the grit had worn away. ) The machine is light weight and easy to handle. The 1-star reduction was because of the Home Depot delivery service. My shipment was late. Watching the tracking, I saw my item go clear across the country (to BC) before making its way back to me in Ontario.
This is a great sander. It’s quiet as it can be. It’s easily the quietest 1/3 sander I have ever owned. I’d been using B & D sanders all this time, and this is beyond compare. It firmly holds the sheets and makes quick work of smoothing or shaping wood.
The bagger is mildly affective at catching the dust, if you use the provided hole punch. I don’t mind saw dust, and do the majority of my sanding outside. I’m just a hobbyist, so this machine is awesome for me.
This is an excellent buy for anyone hobbyist. The 1/2 sheet version is quite a bit more expensive. It’s so much more expensive that I do not know if it’s worth the extra money to pay for it. This is an excellent value.
I am happy with this purchase. Used it to sand repairs done to walls. To ensure the dust is collected in the little pouch attached to the sander, it needs to be emptied before it is full. Dust still escape but much less than sanding by hand.
It is easy to change the sand paper under the clips.
This ergonomically designed 6 In. sander features both a standard random-orbit mode and a direct-drive, eccentric-orbit turbo mode for aggressive stock removal. The Bosch GET75-6 Dual-Mode Random Orbit Sander’s turbo mode delivers 3X the removal rate of standard random-orbit action.
It has a tapered top handgrip with soft-grip design. The auxiliary handle mounts on either side of the sander for outstanding control. The sander features an enhanced multihole pad system that is compatible with a wide variety of abrasive discs.
The random-orbit action both orbits and rotates to provide a well-blended, ultra-smooth surface finish. It is built with an integral pad-dampening braking system to help prevent swirl marks, plus it has a medium microcellular hook-and-loop backing pad.
The die-cast aluminum gear housing with dual-bearing pad mount helps lessen vibration. This tool has an enhanced dust-collection system for maximum efficiency when used with a vacuum cleaner and hose.
Large channels in the pads allow debris to be easily pulled through vacuum port.
I have been working on a boat project for the last 9 years. I have worn out four 6” random orbit sander from another brand. A fellow boat restorer who mentioned how great the Turbo Mode is for removing lots of material.
The gear-drive modes really increases the amount of material that is removed for the same number of passes using dual action mode. I wish I had known about this sander years ago.
I was debating between several turbo sanders and decided on the Bosch. I wanted to have a 5” one as then I’d be able to use the same sanding discs as my normal orbital sander. Very happy with performance, works great and has excellent dust collection.
I’ve had no problems with it whatsoever, but I’d like Bosch to create a mount to be able to hand it on the wall, I’ve looked at some 3D printed ones but none seem to work perfectly.
So far I am VERY pleased with this purchase. This sander is really versatile. Lots of pad options available, and the turbo mode really allows you to hog off material, but in a much more predictable way than a belt sander.
The random orbit mode also works well, I’ve gotten very nice results so far. The dust collection is nearly flawless, definitely the best of any sander I’ve owned. It’s nice that Bosch includes an adapter to fit most regular vacuum hoses.
I will say, tool registration was a bit of a pain, but once I called Bosch, their customer service was great.
DEWALT’s 1/4 Sheet Palm Sander has a 2. 3 amp motor that delivers 14,000 OPM. The separate counterweight reduces vibration and along with the rubber overmold grip provides comfortable sanding. A shorter design allows users to get closer to the work surface and the one-handed locking dust bag attaches securely to the sander to aid in dust collection or the user can attach the sander directly to the DWV010 or DWV012 dust collectors (sold separate).
The new paper clamp holds sandpaper securely during sanding.
After having this problem with the first one and returning it, second sander has the same issue. The power switch does not want to turn on after a couple uses. The only way I can now turn it on is to use a flat screwdriver to press into the on portion of the button.
No amount of finger pressing works. And, once it’s on, it often cuts off and you have to repeat the process. Very frustrating! I do like the ‘new’ paper mounting method. Still not great but better than it used to be.
It would be nice to include adapters and retainers for different shop-vac hoses and not just Dewalt.
I purchased the DeWalt Sander to replace my Craftsman block sander. Although I have been purchasing Craftsman for 50+ years and generally award them five stars, the sandpaper grips on their block sander is a complete disaster.
At the hardware store I looked at all the major brands for replacement; the DeWalt was the only one with a truly well-engineered solution. The front is actually a clamp, which is unavailable on any other brand.
The rear is a spring similar to all other brands but with one truly innovative feature–the spring applies equal pressure across the full with of the sandpaper, which none of the others have addressed.
Thankfully, I can now use the sandpaper until it is worn out; not just until it rips itself off from inadequate retainer(s). I’m not surprised; I also have a DeWalt portable table saw because the engineering is light years ahead of the competition (specifically the front and rear rack and pinion guide system).
The miter gauge is a piece of junk (I had to purchase a real one from another vendor) but the rest of the saw is a work of art. Kudos to your design team; the sander is a winner!.
Working With Pallet Wood: I can use this tool for 20 min at a time with no noticeable fatigue. Shaves off a lot with 60 grit sandpaper although it burns through sandpaper pretty quick so make sure you have enough sheets! It can reveal raw wood on a 2X4X3 in about 3 min per side if the board is smooth.
Cord is a good length, it has two prongs so it can be used with any suitable extension cord. The vac pick up everything as long as the board is flat and doesnt blow anything noticeable out of the filter.
I feel like the sandpaper lasts longer without using the hole punch. It actually buffs nails and screws to a sheen but going over them wrecks the sandpaper almost instantly – within 5 min. All in all this sander is crucial for light/medium sanding purposes.
For heavy jobs a planer, hand belt sander, or a grinder and sanding wheel would be ideal. If you need something as thick as an 1/8 of an inch gouge removed this is not the tool (unless you have 30 min and a couple sheets of paper to spare).
I try to sand with the grain, but no matter the direction it always comes out smooth for 60 grit. Haven’t done any finishing sanding yet but I have no doubts it will not perform. I haven’t tried the shop-vac connection yet either but the sander alone picks up nearly everything so I’m not worried there either.
Great tool. Couldn’t be happier with the purchase!.
This powerful and compact direct electric orbital sander, Mirka DEOS 383CV, is the newest member in the Mirka electric sander family. At only 10 cm high, the tool’s compact and very low profile gives a high maneuverability and helps deliver a precise and efficient sanding performance.
This small and light sander is naturally equipped with a brushless motor. The optimized ergonomics enable a comfortable grip. The machine has an easy to operate lever to control motor speed. It possesses also a separate on/off switch for easy and safe handling.
Mirka DEOS features an integrated vibration sensor and Bluetooth low energy technology. The vibration sensor makes it possible to view the current vibration level through the myMirka app. An in-app purchase allows the follow-up of the daily vibration exposure.
The low profile and small size make Mirka DEOS 383CV ideal for body filler and primer sanding applications. In combination with Mirka ́s net abrasives the tool offers fast, efficient and dust-free sanding performance.
Extremely hard to control at highest speed and grits and impossible to control at lower speeds and grits. Moves around on it’s own with such a force that you cannot control it with your hand. Also leaves swirl marks all over the wood.
The build quality is great and dust collection is superb but for this price you really want an amazing sander and not just an amazing dust collector at your hand. Makes no sense that a sander performs so bad at this price.
I should have returned it when I could, about two years ago. Wanted to give it a second, a third, a forth. chance and still get frustrated every time I use it. I’m going to get rid of it.
I was looking for a small sander to finish chairs with, I read these reviews and purchased the Festool as a result of the negative comments here! I was pretty happy with the Festool until a friend purchased the this sand, it is noticeably better, ergonomically it is leagues ahead! I now find myself always borrowing the mirka! If you can afford the Festool spend a bit more and get a much better sander.
Also for it being too aggressive with coarser grits, it’s a finishing sander!.
I bought this as I was looking for a lightweight sander for overhead work, the Deos seems to be the lightest on the market. As a sander it is excellent, it is amazingly vibration free in the hand and does a great job of stock removal.
My only concern is that it comes with 4 metres of extraction hose which I do not need and does not fit my Festool extractor. I feel I have had to pay for something I will never use and don’t know why it comes as a bundle (presumably the Mirka extractor already has a hose ?).
Also, I tried the bluetooth connection but although it connects it doesn’t show speed and vibration, I think you may need to pay extra for that. So having gone off piste with a non Festool product I have some regrets (difficult to connect the extractor and the mains connector is a bit clunky), but the weight and quality are redeeming features.

Reviews From Real Customers
I bought this unit about a week ago so there hasn’t been very much use but two things come to mind when I think of it: The clips to hold the paper seem to be barely holding on. Paper hasn’t come loose yet but I think it will eventually happen.
Other reviews seem to have indicated as much. The lock-on/lock-off switch is very useful. Holding the paddle switch is a bit awkward for long stretches of time – the switch helps The Punch plate is a nice touch.
Saves you from having to randomly punching until you his the right spots. The other odd thing is that the sample paper they give you does not really match the holes for dust extraction. My guess is that it wasn’t designed for this unit in mind.
It still works but maybe not very efficiently. I will have to try a second piece to see. I have only had the unit for a short time so will write another review if it falls apart or something else. One last thing: the sales price at CT, which I paid, is the normal price at other hardware stores but they don’t carry it, it’s an online only at other stores.
I was looking for an affordable sander, this one came on sale and I bought it, it works well and is pretty quiet. The only problem was that the ad only showed the top of it so I couldn’t tell what type of sanpaper sheets it needed.
As it happens Canadian Tire had a sale on the sandpaper too, but by the time I picked up the sander, the sandpaper was all gone.
The variable speed control dial (4,000 – 10,000 Rpm) on this random orbit sander lets you adjust the speed for a variety of material. Its 2-handle design ensures controlled operation, and the front handle detaches for use in confined areas.
The ergonomic rubberized rear handle reduces vibration and eases operator fatigue. This machine weighs a comfortable 5. 1 Lbs. and is double insulated. The 1/8 In. orbit diameter provides a swirl-free finish to any project and the through-the-pad dust collection system keeps your work area cleaner.
This sander also features a conveniently located lock-on button for comfortable long-term use. It uses 6 In. hook-and-loop abrasive sanding discs and accessories. Standard equipment includes abrasive disc, hex wrench, dust bag, dust nozzle, rubber pad, and wrench holder.
Glad I bought this sander. Good solid equipment from makita. Not used it yet but I know it is top quality as I’ve used a similar style sander several years back. A good bit heavier than the palm sander I’ve been using recently, but a lot more durable and steadier than the various styles of air sanders about.
And a lot less noisy. A good length of electric cable attached to the sander, a good quality head attached to it very flexible. Looking forward to giving it it’s first use and consigning the palm sander to the back of the cupboard.
Makita make good quality tools, so I know this will last for years. Also got an Allen in a holder attached to the cable for when it’s time to change the sanding head Well pleased with the purchase.
I’ve owned this Orbital for over a year now. I use it with Diablo sanding pads. It works well for all my projects and the variable speed is great. Not too heavy so you don’t press too hard on wood or coated projects, and works reliably.
The dust bad is easy to clean with a vacuum, and there is really little or no maintenance to it. I have a M18 Milwaukee Orbital I haven’t used yet because this one is still my preferred tool of choice going strong.
I just know how it acts and the results I’ll get from it. Easy to control, especially with the side handle, and the storage case is perfect. The handle really makes a difference. All in all, it should last a long time even with my rough use and was well built which is why I chose this one over others.
Makita 9741 wheel sander – 7. 8 AMP, 3500 RPM, 4-3/4 In. x 4 In. wheel size. This wheel sanders unique design allows for smooth and even surface material removal. Powered by Makita’s 7. 8 AMP motor, this unit delivers 3500 RPM for efficient paint and rust removal on numerous applications, even brining out wood grain.
Features an adjustable front roller for uniform pressure to work piece. Speed (RPM): 3,500, unique design allows smooth and even surface removal. Adjustable front roller for uniform pressure to work piece.
Well balanced with a low center of gravity for easy operation. Electric brake for fast stopping of the wheel.
Purchased to clean up old timbers and barnwood and was quickly impressed. A quality Makita build. Tight, powerful motor and quiet considering what it does. My use was simply to clean up old lumber, not to “age” it.
A heavier grit wheel or wire wheel is best for this. You can bear down harder on the machine for more aggressive bite, but I found the included 100 grit nylon wheel perfect for my application. This machine makes short work of a task that would take hours.
I hesitated on the price, but ultimately found it well worth it.
This electronic sander is very suitable for sanding inner and outer curves. It is a light and handy machine for convenient one-hand operation. It has rotating and oscillating movement of backing pad for optimum finish.
It features varicolored (V) electronics and a thumb wheel for pre selection of speed. This sander leaves no scratches while placing the running machine on the material (Power control system).
This sander gets into tight spots. Good build quality. The soft sanding pad is a big help on curves. Its a little noisy. The 35mm dust port needed an adapter to work with my Festool hose, and its not an easy one to find.
Should have been included. The sanding surface is an odd 3-1/8 and standard (read: cheap) pads are 3, so theres that. Nobody stocks metabo pads locally and theyre 80-90 cents each, so I use 3 and hole punch the dust holes.
No case, just a cardboard box. Still, it quickly sands baseboard without hitting the profile which is the reason I bought it, so Im happy with it.
My primary use is for sanding 2 inch quarter sawn white oak rails and stiles for mission style cabinetry. The sander is variable speed and dust collection is adequate though the small outlet caused my vacuum to cave in my dust deputy intermediate collection canister.
Finding holed sanding disks is difficult if you don’t buy the Metabo brand. Ergonomically it is difficult to hold onto and get a comfortable grip as you are sanding for long periods. Overall it will be my go to sander.
Makita’s BO4556 finishing sander delivers fast (14,000 OPM) sanding with reduced vibration and noise. The contoured, rubberized palm grip is designed for operator comfort, with an efficient through-the-pad dust collection system.
Everything made by Makita lasts and lasts, so I trust this brand. I especially like the way the quarter sheets are attached, and the fact that more of the quarter sheet is used in the sanding surface.
The sander is heavy (indication of powerful motor), so it takes extra muscle. My own complaint is probably true for all other finishing sanders: the grip. It’s hard to get a good grip because the motor and shape require extra large hands for good control.
I have large hands but obviously not large enough.
I really like this sander, l especially like how easy it is the change the sanding paper, it is light enough and feels good to hold. The down side!!! the cable is too short and l kept catching the dust bag which falls off as it is only push on but on the whole l am pleased with the sander.
Throughout our orbital and random orbit line, the emphasis is on almost vibration-free performance. Tools are designed for toughness, rigidity and light weight, using magnesium, engineered plastics and other materials.
Orbit mechanisms are engineered with ball and roller bearings to remove the maximum amount of stock while producing minimum vibration. Our 600129420 SXE 450 is the world’s first dual orbit, random orbit sander, with alternative settings for very high stock removal, and fine finishing.
Many models have integrated dust collection systems. These tools use dust collection bags and punched sandpaper. Random orbit and dual random orbit models also have infinitely variable speed controls.
And a complete line of Metabo abrasives is available to fit all of our sanders. Whichever sander you choose, you’ll get the legendary Metabo advantages of power, longevity and balance. And a lot less down time.
Metabo is well known in metal working for their angle grinders, and they bring the same quality to their sanders. It has two oscillating frequency settings (6. 2 mm and 2. 8mm) for coarse and fine sanding/polishing.
It also has variable oscillating speeds and a TurboBoost. The dust collection filter works well, and the hook-up for a vacuum makes for excellent dust collection. The hand grips are comfortable and the front grip is removable.
And did I mention how quiet it is? You’ll be hard pressed to find another sander with this many features and quality at this price.
This tool is designed to allow finish carpenters and cabinet makers to complete their tasks quickly and to exacting standards, without swirl marks. Corded Tool Type – Disc Sander. Bench & Stationary Tool Type – Disc Sander.
The Bosch ROS20VSC is designed to give even the most exacting finish carpenters, cabinet makers, woodworkers and others exactly what they want, beginning with great performance and results. The optimized combination of pad orbit and rotation delivers fast removal and a well-blended, ultra-smooth finish.
Bosch’s integral pad dampening system, a pad braking system, is designed to eliminate the most common complaint of random orbit sander users; swirl marks on the workpiece. Finish quality is further enhanced with the use of a soft microcellular backing pad.
The pliable pad ensures a smooth, fine finish on flat or contoured surfaces. Includes: RS034 Soft Sanding Pad, 2609199179 Micofilter Dust Canister, VAC002 Vacuum Hose Adapter, Sanding Disc, 2609170071 Dampening Ring, Carrying Case.
The Makita disc sander GV7000C 180 mm is powerful and ideal for removing rust or old paint. The 900 watt motor and constant electronics ensure a constant working speed. The additional handle offers optimal handling of the device.
Steel wire brushes or fiber discs can also be used with the GV7000C disc sander. The speed can be adjusted via an adjusting wheel.
This sander blows the Metobo S18SB and everything else away. It’s not perfect, but close. A pleasure to use: PROS: (1) “Soft-start”, super-smooth, and rather quiet operation are amazing! (2) “Variable-speed” is a must.
I don’t see how other sanders sell without it; (3) Reeks of quality! (4) Constant RPM/Torque system. (5) Parts readily available should they ever be needed. (7) Highest power (amperage) 7″ sander. (8) Highest RPM 7″ sander.
(9) Light weight !!! Feels much lighter than Metabo S18SB, and with better balance and feel. Makita might have included the cord in the weight? CONS: (1) No case! All Makita power tools once came with nice metal cases.
This is both regressive and sad. (2) No shaft lock. Changing discs and pads is a clunky procedure requiring two wrenches. There’s no excuse for this. (3) Hard plastic handle is brittle and feels cheap.
(4) Hard plastic motor cover badly engineered and “fits” sloppily. (5) Cord is not grounded and a bit light. A ground terminal would help it stay plugged in better. * NOTE: The photos at Home Essentials Direct and Makita are all confused, few useful specs are presented.
It is important to understand that this GV7000C is a high-speed SANDER, and DOES NOT have the two-speed selector button. The PV7001C is a low-speed POLISHER, NOT a sander, and it does have the button.
That is, Home Essentials Direct depicts the GV7000C “WITH” the button, but it does not have one. And, stupidly, Makita shows the PV7001C “WITHOUT” the button, but it DOES have it !!! See my Home Essentials Direct Metabo S18SB review.
Overall this tool is excellent. Plenty of power for medium-duty sanding, polishing, and grinding. Variable speed control is fantastic. Well-balanced and not too heavy for on-wall or overhead work. The clamping arbor is secure but does not allow quick changes of sanding discs or other attachments.
It requires two wrenches, one to secure the shaft, the other to loosen the arbor. Because the tool is trigger-operated and the trigger is unguarded one must unplug the tool, then fiddle with two wrenches, both to remove the arbor and to put it back on.
Why not put a handy locking button to lock the shaft in place so that only one wrench is required? (The way almost all modern angle grinders work. ) This tool makes a ton of very fine dust and throws it 3 to 6′ away from the tool.
This is good for keeping sanding discs clear, but it does make a lot of mess around the tool. (I was able to sand over 80 sq. feet of loose & peeling paint with a single 24-grit pad. The pad did not clog at all, the only reason I had to replace it was that I caught an edge of the pad on a sharp object, causing the pad to tear instantly.
) To extend tool motor, switch, and speed-control dial life I strongly recommend you blow out all those parts with dry compressed air at least every 30 minutes or so of operation.
One of the most valuable and versatile tools in my shop. Lost my first one in Hurricane Katrina and was one of the first tools I replaced (factory reconditioned). Have had this one for eight years and is used for grinding, cutting, sanding a wide range of material.
Coupled with a 6″ resin impregnated, semi-rigid 1/8″ abrasive wheel, there are many uses with that this wheel design (that I admittedly am having a hard time sourcing. The tool is extremely well built with sealed and greased roller bearings throughout.
The Bosch GSS20-40 Orbital Finishing Sander was engineered for sanding surfaces with very tight orbital motions. It is driven by an advanced high speed electrical motor with a powerful capacity of 2.
0 amps and 12,000 oscillations per minute. This orbital sander, also known as a palm sander, includes a precision-machined aluminum sanding plate developed for even sanding and long-lasting durability that will add the perfect finishing touch to all of your woodworking projects.
The GSS20-40 features a dust collection system that provides a micro-filter dust canister with a screw-off cap. This efficient system optimizes dust collection by extracting all dust through the pad–ranging from coarse to fine particles.
The soft-grip was designed with a functional focus. This ensures low-vibration and provides stable handling for secure user control. The ergonomics of the sander enhances comfort for the user and long-term applications.
The sander provides a reliable clamping and pad design that accepts multiple sanding sheets including stick-on paper. The sander offers flush sanding, which provides the user with a different array of applications for all project needs.
Good overall palm Sander. I am happy with it. Replaces a Black and Decker on I had for years that died when the cardboard sleeve on the shafts finally disintegrated. I hope this one doesn’t have cardboard parts.
So far, it works good. Makes a hell of a racket (sound) and sometimes, if you tip it, it will blow sawdust into your eye and high speed. but I guess that’s to be expectes.
Filters much better than sanders with those cloth bags for filters. Feels very solid in your hands but not too heavy. Only used for some light sanding in my workshop so far but we’ll see how they hold up over time.
No issues with “used” looking products being shipped like in some other reviews but there was some fine sawdust inside the boxes upon opening perhaps from storage. Inside the filters were clean. Overall, very satisfied.
Like other reviewers have said they had some sawdust on them. The box was sealed when I purchased them and they look new otherwise so I assume it’s from when they were manufactured. Maybe they test them before selling? Anyway, not a problem as they both have been working great.
Vibration isn’t too bad and the noise is tolerable with protection on. Yes I would recommend these but still ended up using my belt sander first to remove the majority of material.
The Makita finishing sander (BO4900V) features an integrated through the pad dust collection system engineered for a cleaner work environment. The Makita BO4900V Sander can be fitted with either 4-1/2 by9 in hook and loop or 4-1/2 by11 in half sheet abrasive paper.
This sander easily hooks up to a vacuum hose for superior dust collection. A large trigger switch means smooth and easy operation. The variable-speed control dial (4000 to 10,000 opm) enables the user to match the sanding speed to the application.
Ergonomically-designed contoured grips are engineered for improved operator comfort. Additional features include the large cam-lock clamping lever for quick and easy abrasive paper changes. Includes a disposable dust bag.
As sanders go this is smooth, quiet and gets the job done at an impressive rate. I must disagree with some of the previous comments about the in built dust extraction not being very good, I was quite pleased with it, it fills the little maroon bag very quickly.
Top and bottom, it’s not a cheap machine but you are getting what you pay for here. D. I. Y tradesman or industry I can’t see anyone being disappointed with it.
I have been impressed with this half-sheet sander. Most noticeable positives are how well built it is, an aspect where I have found Makita tools seem to be consistent. The electronic variable speed is really useful and it is so quiet! My project for this sander was to prepare timber door panels for shellac sealer that also involved removing ingrained emulsion paint.
I cannot comment on the dust extraction or collection as I was working outside and chose not to use it. I have had another half-sheet sander before this one and this machine is superior in all respects.
These sanders work well out of the box and appear to be well made. However, there is a design issue that makes them really disappointing. The sandpaper hold down clamp is secured with a screw which, over time, works it’s way out and vanishes, rendering the sander inoperable.
Sure, the parts are available to fix it (till it happens again) but who wants to spend nearly $200 for a tool that could be down in a matter of weeks and requires regular repairs? Really wanted these to work out as our old Milwaukee 6010 sanders have been discontinued for several years but these are just not a good option.
If they fixed the hold down clamp, they’d be great.
The DWE6423 is a low-profile random orbit sander that is equipped with a powerful 3-Amp motor capable of delivering between 8,000 and 12,000 OPM. It comes standard with a hook-and-loop backing pad that makes it easy to quickly change out sanding sheets.
The separate counterweight design ensures minimum vibration for improved comfort while operating. The low profile design of the DWE6423 gives you the ability to get closer to the working surface. It includes a locking dust bag for dust collection, and also has the ability to attach directly to DeWalt’s DWV010 or DWV012 vacuums.
Dewalt. Great little palm sander for finishing touches. If your are going to be doing heavy sanding use a sander. I have been a Dewalt Fan since I got married and my dad made sure I had a 4pc Dewalt Kit Jobsite Radio to Match.
He wanted me to have quality tools since so was a newlywed 1st time home owner. Dewalt has only gotten better over the last 20 years. The batteries have gotten smaller lighter but the have 60x more power.
They make high quality products that preform and are super durable and quality. It’s worth the money to have quality tools. Yeah you can buy much cheaper tools at Harbor Freight that have a “lifetime” warranty.
So that means you will be spending you valuable DIY saturdays in line returning a junk power tool for a new one that will last ten minutes and once again your driving back to exchange. Buy quality and buy Dewalt.
They are the very best power tool available in my opinion.
I hummed and haw’d on this forever before purchasing. I needed a new sander to refinish furniture with, so it was very important to find a good sander, that worked, and that didn’t leave marks like my old square sander did.
I like the corded version, because I always forget to charge things. It works way faster and way better. It really exceeded my expectations. A dresser that I had which would usually take me an hour or more to sand down with my old sander, took me about 15 minutes with this one Oh, and the sanding paper discs are a dream! So much better than the square sanders.
I bought this sander to do small projects around the house. I was sanding a wooden disc about 3 inchs across so lots of back and forth. I replaced the first piece of sandpaper after spotting it on the floor.
It had fallen off the sander. Then nothing else would stay on the sander As soon as I turn it off the sandpaper flys off. Really really annoying to say the least. This was the DWE6423K. So where do I buy a new pad seeing as the first one is so smooth as it will not hold anything?.
The HERCULES Professional 5 in. A powerful 3 A motor delivers up to 13,000 OPM for efficient stock. A variable 6 speed dial makes it easy to precisely match speed to application. Maximum Vibration Control makes this sander more comfortable and easier to use on big projects.
Eight hole through-the-pad dust collection works with the included dust bag or the universal collector port that connects with most commonly used vacuum attachments. The 5 in. pad accepts standard hook-and-loop sanding discs.
This 15 amp, 5,000 RPM, 3. 5 maximum horsepower sander provides high performance under severe applications. As a sander, this tool can be used with a 7 or 9 inch backing pad for removing paint or rust from metal, plastic and fiberglass surfaces.
Spiral bevel gears transfer maximum torque for heavy duty jobs. Spring loaded recessed spindle lock assists in easy accessory changes. Sold as a sander, this tool can be converted to a grinder by purchasing a 7 inch or a 9 inch guard which is easily attached to the tool.
Grinding applications remove more material and may be used to shape metal.
Super sharp chainsaw chain; it is light weight, easy to use for the person that requires a chainsaw for light work around the house or farm. It cuts down ‘Bush Honeysuckle’ (an invasive species her in Kentucky) with ease.
Also excellent for small trees or limbs that need to be cleaned up. Very quite compared to a gasoline chainsaw and no priming and start cord yanking which at my age, causes my shoulder to hurt. The battery lasts a long time and maintains a single charge for weeks without having to be recharged.
After using this Dewalt chainsaw, I gave my 18 inch gas chainsaw away.
I purchased this used. Great shape except for the cord, it has some wear. I have had Craftsman, Black & Decker, Dewalt, Makita, & Milwaukee power tools. Milwaukee tools usually cost $5 more when new.
The quality and ease of adjustment features are the best I have used. This is why I purchased this used grinder. It has a built in rubber cushion on the top side for when setting down. I’ve not seen one of these on others.
This will be my tenth or eleventh grinder (all brands) I’ve purchased, and should last as long as my other Milwaukee products. I havn’t worn any Milwaukee product out yet!!!!.
