20 Best Powder Foundations For Acne Prone Skin (2023 Updated)

This is the only makeup product I have used consistently for over ten years. I try different lipstick and eyeshadow and mascara and bronzer brands and products but this is the only foundation I will use.

You can use it alone or with other products, it doesn’t look streaky unless your skin is lacking in oil. It does occasionally wear off in awkward places, like forehead nose or under eye, but you can easily blend the fading area with your fingers or a tissue to fix.

This foundation looks amazing on me and I don’t really have any complaints except that it emphasizes my dry patches. It also emphasizes the pores. I’m giving it 4 stars because I’ve tried other foundations that look horrible on me and this does not.

I recommend it if you don’t have dry patches. Go a few shades lighter than you normally would as this does oxidize. I also wish this had refillable packaging as I would probably repurchase this again.

If you don’t use a pore filling primer then maybe skip this but I’m planning on doing that myself. And I think from far away, no one really cares about pores. I’ve tried Fenty and cover fx foundations that look worse on my skin so I’m giving this a better rating.

I bought 2 shades: warm tan and peach tan. When I checked out the samples at the store, both shades seemed to look fine on my wrist under their store lighting. I left them in my dashboard and totally forgot I purchased them until few months later.

Anyways, I used the ‘warm tan’ first and realized that it oxidized terribly. So I tried the other shade ‘peach tan’ and it did the same. After 20 minutes they changed to a darker shade. It’s too late to return or exchange, now it’s just stashed in the drawer.

What a waste of $50. So disappointing. Had no idea this powder oxidized so bad.

I ordered this in Cool Beige thinking it would be light/light-medium but it’s too dark for me. That being said, it is a really nice powder! It lasts all day and doesn’t cake up. It provides nice coverage and comes in a sleek compact with a separate compartment for your sponge.

I don’t use these sponges, but I do use velour poufs which can fit nicely too! I recommend this, but I suggest searching first and getting a shade match just to save the hassle. It wasn’t too big of a deal for me to return it, but I will be getting this in Cool Linen next! You can’t beat the price.

The coverage is beautiful and the color for me was spot on. I’ve got a light brown complexion as an African American. Tan is the color pallet I went with. But it is critical for Laura and QVC to do a better job at representing black models for the darker shades.

Not just in pictures, but as live models. You throw a black model in there (at the end of the presentation), never talk about what shade she is wearing. It’s very frustrating to finally see someone that looks like me, but the host or Laura never discuss or reveals what shade the black model is wearing.

Laura, please do a better job at representing your audience. You’ll get more sales, and satisfied customers too. I want to recommend the awesome foundation….

How often do you actually get a finishing powder that doesn’t look more like a highlighter without spending more than $30? Rarely. I’ll tell you that. Although this was a little light for me due to my recent trip to Florida to perform my new single in Clearwater.

I completely loved the finish and the matte is perfect for stage lights! Everyone knows you need a rotation depending on the “level” if your skin! Consult a makeup professional for details if you have no idea what I’m talking about it is worth the ask, trust!!.

This is a really good powder! I use it to set my foundation. I have medium-neutral skintone and I purchased the Medium Light shade. This powder is very natural-looking and lightweight and gives your skin an airbrushed finish & controls shine.

Very impressed. As far as drugstore brand pressed powder, I have always been pleased with Cover Girl and even more so, now that they are owned by Coty.

Simply love it! Before this one, many other pressed powers used to give me an allergic reaction. They would also make my face greasy and fill it up with pimples the next day. I’m grateful to have tried Covergirl Clean Matte Pressed Powder! I suits me fine and the results are amazing.

My skin look radiant, younger and healthier without the sticky look and sensation.

My best friend has always used this since I can remember. It does a great job, lasts a long time and the coverage is great! Since Covid19 stopped me from using makeup like I use to— I thought I would just use some powder type foundations.

I figured this would work well since my friend has used it for what seems like forever a day and its always served her well. Well– not for me. The coverage with this is great. But thats where it ends.

It feels sort of heavy and cake-y on my face. It also breaks my face out something awful the next day!! Like. WTH?!!! That really upsets me because I had my acne and hyperpigmentation under control each time I try to use this and.

BAM!!!. it happens every time!!! I would hate to have to toss this. but it looks like I will have to, because it breaks me out every time. I wish that it wouldn’t do my skin like that, but it does. I’m not sure how my BF is able to use this every time without my issues.

my skin must just be sensitive to some of the ingredients. If your skin isn’t sensitive, you will probably love this. However— if you are acne prone OR have sensitive skin, proceed with caution. or you will be dealing with break outs and post acne hyperpigmentation afterwards🙄😤.

I’d given up on foundation because I have stubborn combination skin and it always makes my face an oil slick, breaks me out, or accentuates my acne scars. This is excellent for my skin type though. It seriously looks like I applied a filter to my face.

I use the puff made by the same brand and follow the directions that Patrick gives in the video. However, you can use a brush if you want lighter coverage. It truly is versatile and works either way.

The first time I tried it, I used it over a tinted moisturizer but I didn’t really need to. It does well on its own. It doesn’t sink into my pores or acne scars and it’s not overly mattifying. It still gives me the glow that I get from tinted moisturizer but with more coverage.

Be aware of two things though: It runs dark. I’m usually in the medium range of every foundation, but I needed light in this one. Also, know your skin type. I absolutely cannot imagine this being right for dry skin types.

I was astounded to discover that this powder foundation des not come with an applicator. I have tried a lot of powder foundations in my time – I love them because they’re quick – and this is the first one I’ve ever seen that did not come with an applicator sponge.

They fleece you for extra money because they want you to buy it separately. And even if you do, where are you supposed to store the applicator pad? In your make-up bag so it goes everywhere? I wouldn’t have considered buying this if I’d realized.

It never occurred to me that it would be totally out of step with every other powder foundation on the market and not include a sponge. To me, that’s unacceptable. And it’s only 8g of product – most powder foundations have at least 10g.

So, I can’t say anything about the colour or the quality as I have nothing to apply it with! Very annoying. The lack of applicator and need to spend MORE money buying one should be made clear. It’s going straight back.

I needed to replace the discontinued Armani Luminous Silk compact (rip most perfect thing ever). Tried Make Up For Ever, which was too cakey and matt, and a fee things in store. This one was the only one that matched me and appeared natural, with light but buildable coverage.

(Heads up, it applies darker than it looks in the compact). It’s on the slightly drier side, but that’s not a deal breaker for me, even with my dry/combination skin. It melts into my skin sufficiently and has the coveted blurring effect on my large pores.

I’m taking a star off because it doesn’t come with an applicator, so when taking it on-the-go I will have to get creative. I use a brush and the applicator from my Armani compact when Im getting ready for work at home.

It is long-lasting coverage-wise, but I do need to remove shine once or twice through the day. Overall, it performs very close to the Armani fan favorite.

My expectations were high trying this makeup for the first time. I’ve been using double wear liquid foundation for about 10 years but I had never tried this powder foundation. I purchased 1W2 Sand, to use when I’m in a hurry & need to put makeup on in my truck so tried it first with out primer.

It does give coverage but my face was so powdered, I tried rubbing it in to make it look normal. It did okay on my dark spots. The second time I used primer and it was a little better but still too powdered, I had to really blend it with my fingers.

I applied the rest of my usual products, it lasted a while but didn’t hold up the rest of the day. I’ve used other powder foundations that have more moisture, I was expecting this one to be the same.

Overall it’s okay, but pricey. I love Estée Lauder foundation so I’m keeping it but probably won’t but this particular one again.

my second purchase. first shade was a little pink after about a year I noticed. I am oily with large pores. I wear this daily. it is so fast to buff into my skin like old school bare minerals. I put a LIGHT dusting of translucent powder underneath it.

I find it helps the EL not stick weird, go on smooth and helps absorb more oil. Am I oil free all day? no. but is it the most natural look of all I’ve tried? yes. I don’t look like I am wearing anything.

looks nothing like a liquid does and I like that. does not feel heavy. wears off nicely when I blow my nose and stuff, its natural. I have tried the Elf dupe and HARD NO. this blurs pores. The Elf clings to pores and highlights each pore for me.

The new refill is cool. im going to try to attach a pic. I bought just the refill since I don’t carry with me. I was also hoping to use in a magnetic pallet. they are smart and it is NOT magnetic. but it is shipped in a plastic container so I have been using it at my vanity in the shipping container.

I would recommend the cheaper refill if you don’t need the compact. 10/10 will always be my go to.

I hate to say it, but this has to be the worst powder foundation I’ve ever used. I am heartbroken too as I was thrilled and beside myself with excitement to try it. I’ve tried just about every powder foundation this world has to offer, having tested brands from Germany, Korea, Japan, Australia, the UK.

and the US. I’ll begin with the pros: The shade (150) was spot on to what I expected. It’s tough to shade match because there’s too many options that pay way too much attention to undertone and not enough attention to the actual skin shade or quality.

When applied, regardless of shade selection, one will notice the undertone far more than anything else if that makes sense. The packaging is nice. It fits easily in the hand and there are 2 mirrors; one on the lid and one under the product within the retaining cavity.

I think they’re trying to appeal to a wide audience here, just keep the one under the lid as no one needs a mirror whilst putting away the sponge. The sponge is a great shape to get into the little spaces around one’s nose, chin, it’s a thin and easy-to-use sponge.

It bends and molds in the hand for precise application. Now for the cons: The matte finish is actually more like luminescent, as though I’d applied shiny light pink mica to my face. Looks very unnatural, and shiny makeup rings of highlighter all over my face and calls attention to every line, spot and rough patch.

It made me look 15 years older than I actually am, as a result. The coverage says buildable but to be quite honest, I have pressed setting powders from the high street and drug store that offer more buildable coverage.

Because the finish calls attention to every flaw, every line, every zit, it looks really, really awful. And, this will sound odd but it cakes. For something that gives so little coverage, I would not expect caking! It’s the weirdest thing.

Anyway, I tried this on cleansed skin, and with primer and with only moisturizer but I sadly could not get it to work for me. When I swatch it on my hand, it looks and feels as though it’s going to work perfectly! But when applied to my face, it’s another story.

I think if they paid less attention to making an undertone stick out like a sore thumb (no one is actually jaundice yellow, burnt orange or neon peony in their undertone) and just made shades that accommodate everyone and focused more on the quality of the product versus the gimmicks I think it would be a far better offering.

I’m saddened, as I was quite looking forward to this but I’ll sadly have to let it find its resting place in my graveyard drawer of unusables.

[TLDR: I would not recommend if you have my skin type (combination oily t-zone). ] I have combination skin and have been wanting to give this a try for the longest time since I use the pro filtr soft matte longwear liquid foundation.

To my surprise, I am actually oilier when using this powder foundation than the liquid foundation. This is a total L for me as you would rightfully assume a powder foundation is more mattefying than a liquid foundation.

But in less than an hour of use, I am a hot oily mess. I’ve tried using a blotting paper to remove the excess oil and then touch up with the powder lightly again (I’ve tried using the sponge that comes with it and a face brush) to even out my skin again – nope and nope, big mistake.

Adding that touch-up in less than an hour somehow makes my skin look oily, cakey and my pores are unbelievably visible all at the same time. Today I finished a business meeting and my husband picked me up with the first thing he says being “were you at a meeting or did you just finish a workout cuz your face is super shiny and oily”.

At that point I knew I had to give up on this foundation. I didn’t even know I could get so oily using any face product until using this product. I wanted to love this so badly since the shade match is perfect and compact is super cute, but the formula just didn’t cut it.

(Note: I’ve used this product over all my regular skin care products and tested the product several times trying to make it work. I’ve tested and compared the oiliness against one drugstore powder foundation, one drugstore liquid foundation, one high-end powder foundation and two high-end liquid foundations (one of which was the pro filtr soft matte liquid) all of which I’ve used in the past.

All of this to say that none of these made my skin look as oily as this powder foundation. ).

I wasn’t sure if this matte foundation would suit me as i have normal to dry skin, but i really like it. I’ve tried different ways of applying the foundation, brush , sponge , but in the end the best way for me was by using a light moisturiser then the fenty primer and then applying the foundation with the sponge that comes in the case then buff lightly wth a brush to give a soft sheen.

It covered my redness better that the recommended products that i have bought in the past. I found I only needed a small amount and touch-ups though the day didn’t work , i found it went clumpy applying more than one layer.

Because its matte i did find i needed a bronzer or blush where i didn’t use one before. Overall really good product in an attractive and practical compact. Because I’d never used a matte powder foundation before I had to experiment with different techniques, before finding the one that suited me best.

Deciding on the right shade is tricky the first one I bought 140 was too pale ,I just use it around the mouth and nose. Now I use 240, and this shade will take me through tbe winter but will go up a shade or two for the summer.

I’m in my mid 40’s and even though I do my best to take care of my skin, I’m seeing fine lines and wrinkles and some hyperpigmentation from my younger years of not wearing sunscreen. It was the 80’s, after all.

I have an semi oily t-zone still but my cheeks and especially under my eyes, are dry. I’ve tried dozens of foundations, from creams, to liquids, to loose minerals, and I’ve had to mix and match to create the perfect finish.

I’ve even tried another brand of powder foundation that was raved about on tic toc. So I got it. It was like cakey chalk on my maturing skin. Gag! I like my mineral foundation, but it’s expensive and I wear it when I go out.

I was at Target not looking for foundation at, but stumbled on this, and, on a whim, decided to buy it. I mean, why not, it’s $11. 00, and Target has a great return policy if it I hate. Well, let me tell you, this foundation is wonderful! I was pleasantly surprised.

I never like the sponge or brush that comes with products. I usually use my fingers or a damp sponge. I used the sponge that comes with and the foundation glided onto my skin like velvet. And disappeared onto my skin.

I was hooked! It hasn’t settled into my fine lines or cling to any dry patches, and it gave me a demo matte finish. I only gave four stars bc I haven’t worn this foundation for very long and need to see how it wear throughout the day, but so far, so good!.

I really enjoy ALL of the Camo products. I am fair/light with pink undertones and purchased the 125C and 150C. Surprisingly there is quite a big difference in colors, but I can make both work. I was impressed by the coverage you could obtain and smoothness.

The best option is NOT using the applicator provided. A beauty blender or brush is preferable. The finish was nice and provided a radiant look. Like most powder foundations it did have a tendency to be a little blotchy with uneven coverage but can be blended smooth with little effort.

However, I read that a reviewer had tried this as a setting or finishing powder over tinted moisturizer or their usual foundation. My jaw dropped in the mirror. This powder is OUSTANDING as a finishing powder.

You won’t believe your eyes. With a very light application over your tint or foundation and the appearance of your skin is absolutely flawless. I looked airbrushed in real life. You have to try!.

Love this line of products. I hope walmart continues to carry it. This foundation is amazing, has wonderful coverage, goes on smooth, controls my oil production. I have acne prone combination skin and this does so well with it.

I am trying out other products too such as the facewashes and lotions.

Love this natural foundation. The price is so reasonable, it surpasses all the other natural foundations I’ve bought. It goes on easy and does not cake. I have received compliments about having a great looking complexion! And I’m 69!.

Over the course of the last year or so I have been trying powder foundations from just about everyone I could get my little paws on. You can ring the bell, stop the fight, we have a winner. The KVD Beauty Lock-It Powder foundation takes the prize.

Finally I found a powder foundation that matches my skin shade and undertones exactly. It comes with a simple pad style sponge which actually applies the product beautifully, but a brush does a terrific job as well.

This powder is extremely smooth and soft so it applies like a dream, while providing just the right amount of coverage. I don’t feel like it looks dry or chalky at all, just smooth and natural. The price is right in line with other prestige brands and a little goes a long way so it should last a long time.

I have used it both as a finishing powder and as a foundation and I’ve been pleased with both options. They also have a pretty good range of shades so I think it’s easier to match than several other brands out there.

I would completely recommend trying this foundation. I’m a huge fan.

I normally wear Nars Valencia (Natural Radiant)or Hourglass Golden Tan (Vanish stick) or Hourglass Golden (Illusion) the shade finder recommend this color (Deep Cinnamon) and… oh my goodness! It is SO DARK!!!! Hard to imagine this was my shade finder color!!! (I’m every color I wear in the other brands) I will try as a contour.

I really wanted to love this and to use for my touch up and setting powder. I normally use Benefit 6, and I was just wanting to try something different because it’s NOT the same as the Hello Flawless formula! I don’t know why they ever changed it! I don’t recommend trusting the shade finder on this one.
