I’d describe it as a lightly smoked salty piece of bacon that is somehow now a giant piece similar to the ham i typically get on a spiral bone in ham. Imagine bacon with more meat!!! This is not a product for people who don’t enjoy smoked foods, 4rth of July picnics, muscle cars, bass boats or anything that is traditionally considered Americana! Please Sam’s keep this product in stock and add more items from Hempler’s as they seem to know what midwestern americans desire in their meat/pork/beefish products!.
I love BBQ, ham, bacon and smoked sausage. But, this product is so overly smoke flavored that it is overpowering. After cooking two slices for sandwiches the entire house smelled like a smoke pit. I had to spray air freshener in every room because of it.
I had high hopes for this product but I will not be buying it again and, in fact, I’m not even sure I will cook the rest of the package. I buy Canadian bacon all the time and this is definitely not a substitute for Canadian bacon, regular bacon or ham.
I’m sure the product would have tasted good however the package that we purchased from Sam’s club in Aurora was slimy and smelly. It wasn’t worth the drive all the way back to that location to get a refund but they have to do better somehow inspect from time to time your products because it is inconvenient to those who decide to patronize a business that’s selling us goods that are not edible without their knowledge.

Friends of ours by these ribs, grill and serve them throughout the Summer. With the terribly cold winter we’d been having, we needed some Summer brought into our lives so, we decided to give these a try.
I purchased the ribs without sauce since we use our own and all I did was follow the cooking instructions: brush on BBQ sauce, cover with foil and heat at 325 for 1 hour. I cooked the roast in my slow cooker for 8 hours on low, seasoned it with lots of “pork” seasonings, a little water and vegetables, but it really didn’t turn out like I had hoped. Maybe it was my fault but the meat was actually sort of dry.
The flavor was good, but it was even a little tough. I expected it to be easily shredded like pulled pork. I will give it another try, but will cook it in my oven over several hours on 200 degrees and see if it makes a difference.

Porchetta is a traditional Italian roast of herb scented pork that is juicy in the center with a crackling fat cap on the outside. A layer of seasoning and spices is sprinkled on by hand before the beautiful roast is rolled and tied with twine.
We can’t say enough good things about this roast. Yes—it is expensive. But when we saw our oldest son immediately go back for seconds, I knew we’d found a very special product. He had surgery several years ago for an intestinal issue that limits the amount of food he can eat at one time, but he couldn’t resist this roast.
Our other son echoed his sentiments. Following Italian tradition, after dinner we used our commercial slicer to turn what was left of the roast into thin slices for sandwiches to enjoy while watching day-after Christmas football.
Who needs to battle bargain-hunting shoppers when you can sit at home and savor this fabulous meat yet another day? We opted to cook the roast exactly as directed by Snake River Farms on its packaging.
The seasoning was perfect and could not have been better. We may have just begun a new holiday tradition.
I’m a huge SRF fan and have tried most of their products, from the gold grade wagyu to the kurobuta pork, and always had the highest praise for everything I purchased. However, I was beyond disappointed receiving this porchetta to note that in the ingredients list there were a bunch of chemicals and preservatives (dextrose, citric acid, spice extractives – many solvents used in the extraction process are considered poisonous, some are carcinogens and neurotoxins!).
SRF has not been transparent at all in the product description on their website about the inclusion of anything beyond natural, high quality herbs and spices in the preparation of the porchetta, and I am extremely disappointed by the inclusion of these unhealthy ingredients.
Unfortunately due to my and my guests’ health conditions, I will not be able to serve this and will just have to throw out $180 worth of meat. Had I been informed appropriately in the product description that this porchetta contains these ingredients, I would’ve gladly purchased something else.
Not ok for a company of the caliber of SRF to misrepresent as such and include these kind of ingredients in their products!!.
The roast was amazing, second to none. The shipping however (even though out of SRF hands) will make me never order again. Roast was set to arrive on Saturday (frozen) before Thanksgiving, instead arrived completely thawed on Wednesday.
I realize this is out of their hands, but how could we ever count on this amazing meat for a special occasion? And if we had wanted it to arrive frozen, well it was just cold enough to make us feel safe still eating it.
