The One Paint can be used on treated surfaces such as painted, varnished, bitumen, and creosote sealed surfaces.
It’s a small tin but it goes a long way – bought (dark grey) to paint a remaining white UPVC window the same colour as the rest of the new ones that were recently installed. Two coats for a good finish and you can’t really tell the difference between new & old windows except for the style of window.
I painted straight out the tin on my internal doors although the doors had to have two coats as they were previously white they look awesome x expensive my daughter worded it!! Will be ordering more for all upstairs.

O my goodness! What a wonderful product. Such a beautiful color! I used this Patina Green on a wall with copper to make the wall look like fabric or wallpaper. Success. it is stunning, and the compliments keep coming in! There are so few “greens” that really look like copper patina but this one is a winner.
This color will be used again in my home as copper seems to be the theme. I believe there is a blue that you have that will be my next purchase.
Once you try milk paint, you will never want to go back. The white takes multiple coats to get a solid white finish when you paint dark cabinets but the outcome is worth the work. A little bit goes a long way.
You just add a little water if you want to thin the consistency. It spreads on like sour cream. It was fun to work with. It gets absorbed and dries quickly with zero brushstrokes. This stuff is truly great.
Doing my lower cabinets in China Blue. Did my exterior door in lamp black with a brass kick plate. Cleans up with water. I will never stop buying this stuff. If you are worried about the price. remember you get hat you pay for.
When you are painting something as important and visible as your kitchen cabinets, you have to look for the best. I am more than pleased.
General Finish Milk Paint is not real milk paint. They use “milk paint” to market it for the color options for the paint but does not use any ingredients found in milk paint. Therefore, unlike real milk paint, General Finish has VOC and uses chemical ingredients.
Don’t be fooled by their deceptive marketing. I am extremely upset that I purchased their paint thinking it was milk paint. I used General Finish to paint my child’s furniture and I have waited a month for the toxic VOC odor to disappear and it’s still there.
They need to remove “milk paint” from their product name.
Prime and seal a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces such as new drywall, wood, masonry, metal, glossy surfaces, and more. It is great for hard-to-stick surfaces like old glossy paints and clear finishes, metal, fiberglass, PVC, composites and even glass and tile.
Seals and tones the surface. Resistant to the formation of mold and mildew on the underside and surface of the primer film, prolonging the life of your paint job. Inhibits rust formation when applied over clean ferrous metal.
This primer does none of what it claims. You can scratch it off with your nail I tested it on several surfaces once I found out that it did not stick to a sanded tile (nor the unsanded one, as it claims it does) Wasted a lot of money because I only discovered this by accident, after the whole project was done!!! Written to Rust-Oleum SA and will see if there is any feedback.
DONT BUY THIS PRIMER!! Don’t believe the claims it makes.
I used this product to prime kitchen cabinets that had a black plastic type coating. I gave them a light sanding and sprayed on the primer with a Wagner Flexio 590. I thinned the primer 10% with water.
It gave a nice smooth finish. I sprayed a white melamine finish for the top coat. Very pleased with the finished product.
We have trim around our windows and it’s made out of a metal framework which after wear and water on the house will tend to get rust spots in some areas even though it’s painted. I found this product and it’s fantastic.
It’s super thick so it doesn’t go as far as you would expect for the quart size. But the thickness makes sense when you think about what it’s made to do. The primer coated the trim work and filled any holes that were present.
It dried very quickly and we were able to paint over it the same day. I will definitely be buying again.

Love the color and the paint is really pigmented. Only problem I have is it says it stays on laminate surfaces. It is easly scratches. Make sure to purchase deglosser before using. comes with a lot of products in the kit and I was surprised how much these tiny cans covered.

The deglosser doesnt take off the finish but maybe dirt and that can be done with soap water. Since doesnt take off original top coat i was sceptical of paint and it is paint, we are talking ! Using some fancy name BONDING COAT! Ha! We ended up not using hardly any deglosser even though we wasted time scrubbing and scrubbing till we where tired, we ended up having spend time sanding! Something says no sanding recorded steer away no wood work comes out professional without sanding even sanding between coats of paint and top coat or whatever varnish requires light sanding so the next coat can propery adhere.
The paint is nice but you can get nice flat paint and glaze as we had color matched paint from kit to do cabernet a red paint and bought a qrt of rustolleum glaze encase we run out! The cheese cloth is a joke ended up being a joke! I ise thos to wipe off glaze amd you will be stuck with lint all over and will show up under top coat i am having trouble finding anything lint free! Which is causing me major OCD! Which if u have OCD you will drive yourself insane with thos prodject like me! Top coat is a horrible going to throw away i guess! Dryes too fast and wherever it drips on undersidesor collects it dryes white and some bubbles.
This product has a glue feel to it. Going isminwax proacrylic or poly! Lots bad reviews on topcoat of thos problem and streaking too!!! So at least i saved 50 bucks buying 2 on ebay vs home depot but still waste of money!!! Go buy sand paper paint the glaze if thats the look and a minwax top coat and foam brushs and good brush lint free clothes and your better off saving a bunch money time and better outcome! All that work u want it too last and be protected so dont ise that junk shame on rustolleum putting that junk in the kit and that deglosser! I hope i helped your decision ! I even read bunch reviews nothing bad so i bought it and bought 2! Npw i have seen other bad reviews after tbe fact ughhh.
I hope i save someone elses time and pocket and agony!!! Oh and this is so not a weekend prodject thats total bull and false advertizing! Unless you are someone that doesnt care and slap it on and even with drying times between coats and topcoat its not possible!.
I don’t mind painting, but doing a project as big as this was really intimidating. In the end after watching many videos and reading lots of reviews, I decided to tackle this because I hated my bleached oak cabinets.
I chose the “Chocolate” colour after initially wanting “Expresso” and I am so glad I did. I wanted a deep rich colour but always found the expresso colour to be almost black, so at the last minute, I changed to Chocolate.
Absolutely LOVE the deep rich shade of the Chocolate! Biggest tips: FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS TO A “T”, AND DO NOT USE THE TOP COAT PROVIDED IN THE KIT, PURCHASE AN OIL-MODIFIED POLYURETHANE BY MINWAX (about $20) INSTEAD.
MUCH EASIER TO WORK WITH AND AWESOME RESULTS. Each of the first 3 steps are easy, just time consuming. STEP 1: Scrub a lot. There is lots of deglosser in the kit but I would recommend purchasing extra pads.
Be sure the cabinets and cupboards are clean and allow to dry overnight just to be sure. After this is done, I taped the cabinetry in kitchen to prep for all the painting. Take your time and tape everything that needs it, you will be thankful you took the time to do this step carefully.
Organize your workspace with each cupboard just to get organized for days of painting. STEP 2: Start with the back side, allow to dry 2-3 hours, and then apply 2nd coat on back. Allow 2-3 hours to dry, then flip and do front sides the same way.
I opted to start with a light coat for Step 2 then apply a little thicker for the 2nd coat. Covered really well. Paint carefully, being sure to get good coverage, but watch for drips or buildup. Just take your time and allow them to dry overnight as well.
(I have 25 cabinet doors and 8 drawers, so this step took me 2 days because I did the back first, then the front coats on a separate day). STEP 3: Glazing was easy. I brushed it on with a synthetic brush, then only used one piece of the cloth per cupboard and wiped it off lightly.
Each cupboard looked slightly different which only brought out the individual grain of each of my cupboards. (I only glazed the fronts of the cupboards and the cabinetry, did not bother with inside).
I read a previous review that said no two doors should look identical, and I’m glad I caught that comment 🙂 STEP 4: TOP COAT. My biggest stressor based on so many reviews. So I went to a couple paint and hardware stores, asked questions and decided to go with “Minwax Oil-Modified Polyurethane” instead.
What convinced me when was the clerk opened the Rustoleum top coat can and compared it to the Minwax. The Rustoleum top coat looked like a gel paste and was very thick—the Minwax was much thinner and looked easier to apply.
Since so many reviews said the Rustoleum top coat dried streaky, was very difficult to apply and left a lot of buildup in the corners, I decided to try the Minwax and boy am I ever glad I did!! I didn’t even try the Rustoleum top coat so I can’t say whether it was as difficult as people say, but applying the Minwax was easy and did not leave streaks or buildup.
I applied with a synthetic brush, started by applying strokes down the grain of the middle of the cabinet door and feathered out the remaining polyurethane which was minimal by the time I got to the corners.
I checked after I finished each door and used a foam brush to touch up the slight buildup in the corners. it worked like a charm! I cannot believe others haven’t tried this and noted it in their reviews to save others the headache of using their topcoat.
Once done the top coat, I allowed it to dry for 3 hours then applied another light coat again. It dried quick on the first coat, and even quicker on the 2nd. The other note on using Minwax, I left the stir stick in the quart and stirred after each cupboard.
Do not ever shake the quart, only stir, but maybe that’s why it went on so easy. I can’t say enough how I would recommend spending the extra $20-$25 on Minwax as the topcoat. Again, I only applied top coat to fronts of cabinets and cabinetry, but you could also do a coat on inside of doors if you’d like.
FINAL PRODUCT: Now my cupboards have dried for almost 24 hours and look and feel awesome! Keep in mind, I used a dark colour (Chocolate to cover bleached oak) and had excellent results, but if you are going from dark cabinets to light, you might want to research more in case the Minwax might causes any yellowing.
The whole process was 7 days (started on a Friday, hung them the next Thursday). My house was taken over by cupboards, but I kept reminding myself how important the kitchen area is and I opted to be real patient.
Take your time and follow all the steps as they instruct. Watch the Youtube tutorial (it’s about 16 mins long but well worth watching a few times to ensure you are doing it all right). Again, I skipped the Rustoleum top coat stuff and opted for Minwax.
So I just finished a 9 day project transforming all light maple kitchen cabinets, hutch, railings, etc. After the second base coat, I was thoroughly impressed with the way things were coming along. As many others have experienced, the top coat was exceptionally hard to work with! I have streaks throughout all of my kitchen cabinet doors, which look terrible in natural light.
Although I love the color, I would highly recommend not purchasing this product in ESPRESSO as the top coat completely ruined my countless hours of nonstop work. I’m very disappointed. The railings actually turned out much better than the kitchen cabinets and now I’m stuck with either having to sand everything down and risk messing it up again, or calling in a professional to fix the cupboard doors.
I should also mention that after having a terrible experience with the top coat supplied in the box, I purchased a different high quality polyurethane to top coat. This still came out streaky. Working with the top coat on the dark kit is very difficult and like working with glue on a dark surface.
Nerve racking and poor result. I wish I could have posted a more positive review, as I was very excited to get this project done, but I’m literally depressed as the result of the finished product, as I had very high hopes reading other reviews.
Be very careful with the dark color kit (specifically Espresso). I will be calling Rust Oleum tomorrow to see if they have any suggestions.
Beyond Paint brings you the Matte Bright White Water-Based Acrylic All-in-One Paint to give your kitchen cabinet refinishing a professional touch. This paint for wood furniture is straightforward to apply.
No prep is required for this paint. No stripping, primer, or sanding is required, which eliminates prep work and mess. This furniture refinisher is durable, dries quickly, and gives long-lasting protection from wear and tear.
The application of this paint on wood furniture is smooth, quick, and easy, and you will be surprised at how little furniture paint you use for the coverage required. The bright white Beyond Paint all-in-one is the best paint for furniture, and you will get a professional finish that will transform your home.
I used Beyond Paint in Pewter to cover kitchen cabinets that had a very old and flaking finish. Because the original finish was failing and very uneven I elected to sand and scrape those areas where I would not have a good bond.
This was not a complete removal of the old schelac finish but just enough to encourage a good adherence of the Beyond Paint. I used a small foam type roller on the doors and drawer fronts and a good quality brush to get at areas that were not accessible with the roller.
I applied two coats of the product which provided nice full color coverage. The thick consistency is somewhat gel like and as a result I had almost no drips or difficulty in achieving excellent results.
After a day or two if curing, I was able to install new hardware that required drilling new holes. I had no trouble getting clean drill holes in the paint with no peeling or flaking. I believe that a 30 day cure period will be best for getting the most durable finish.
I have painted kitchen cabinets with other types of paint and I think I will reach for the beyond paint product whenever I need to paint cabinets in the future.
I painted 2 large nightstands that were mahogany. I used linen. The color was more like pebble with lots of grey/ grieve. Nort what I wanted or saw in sample. It took 3 coats and still wasn’t fully covered.
I sanded it lightly, and used another 2 coats of eggshell paint from Sherwin Williams to get the color I wanted. Now I am happy. You MUST use 3/4” cloth roller ( I used 4”), to get good coverage. Brushes were not good no matter what kind I tried.
They only r good to get paint in grooves, then u must go over with a roller to smooth the finish. Did painting five coats save me time? I don’t think do. It also scratch off after second coat by accident.
I would not trust this on cabinets that r used frequently. It would be ok to repaint lighter wood furniture. I like the finish better than chalk paint not so flat.
If you have plenty of time to complete your project, then these products may be for you. The paint is a pudding consistency and should be used with light coats. The paint should be left to dry for no less than 24 hours.
Longer drying time than 24 hours is better. The Beyond Paint Sealer needs a full 3 days or more of curing time. If it comes I to contact with water before it’s fully cured, it will blush. After curing, it will deliver a fairly durable finish for every day use but will not stand up to abuse, such as knives, sharp objects or abrasives coming into contact with it.
Follow all directions when using the Beyond Paint products!.
Beyond Paint is specifically formulated to allow you to refinish your furniture, cabinets and accessories on almost any surface with this all-in-one bonder/primer/finisher that cures to a durable, washable surface in just one or two coats.
Application is quick and easy and the result is a beautiful, professional finish that will transform your home. Perfect for experts and beginners alike. The amazing Beyond Paint cabinets furniture & more makeover kit also includes the best tools for the job for your convenience and ease of application saving you money and hassle on your home projects.
Well I wanted it to work well as the dark gray color is very pretty and it looked great. Unfortunately, I think you also need to purchase the sealer and the instructions weren’t clear about that. Sadly it chipped pretty quickly and easily so we ended up buying a dormice cover to place over it.

I love original oil-based Kilz. I feel like the strong smell drives off evil spirits as well as grease stains. When I purchased my 1970s style fixer upper 2 years ago, I coated every brown wood panled wall.
I used 30 gallons of Oil based Kilz primer, and I have never painted over that primer. Because I love oil based kilz so much. But your kilz 3 primer has the same coverage I expect from oil based kilz, and Since I no longer need to chase the bad juju stink of previous owners from my walls, the low odor of this formula has made me fall in love with your new, water-based hotness.
Thank you for always hiding bloodstains, dog stink and grease spots, Kilz! I love your products. Maybe one day I’ll advance to an actual paint color instead of just white primer on my walls. You betcha it will be Kilz when I do!.
I bought this less than two weeks ago to do Up this Old Fashioned Farm House Basement and Steps; it was Musty and Smelled of Very Old Farm Workings. So I put three coats of Primer on the Walls and two coats of the Oil Based on the Floors and Steps on Old but Saturday Stairs; what a treat for my Parents, whom live with me.
The House is only 1000sqft but the Charm and Cleanliness this Primer and Paint has brought is Breathtaking; I did white on the Walls and a light navy blue on the Floors in the room where my Father has his tinkerings and a pale butter yellow on the main walls of the basement; which makes my mother smile, with an old fashioned different color diamond pattern on the Floors with white trim; also the cold Pantry is ALL white from Floor to Ceiling as well as the shelves; now my canned goods are on Display!!! All of this done using Kilz Primer and Kilz Paint and Kilz Oil Paint.
Just WOW!!!!! Hurry people; get this Brand to make your Home/Life Refreshed and smelling Clean!!!!! My Basement looks like it came from a magazine!!!!!.
Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Cabinetry and Furniture Paint is a water-based, 100% acrylic product designed for surfaces such as kitchen and bathroom cabinets, furniture, and window frames. This fast-drying formula cures harder and less tacky than traditional acrylic interior paints and features superior self-leveling, leaving a sleek, smooth finish.
Additional features include easy clean-up, excellent coverage, hide, and touch-up.
This paint has excellent coverage! If you use a good primer like Kilz, you only have to use one coat of this paint. The finish is not a super shiny, glossy look, more like a semi gloss or satin. It dries well without streaks or brush strokes.
It doesn’t have a strong odor but you can smell it. It doesn’t irritate my daughters lungs and she has asthma. The gray color is a darker shade but I love it, it goes with almost any decor. I painted an older set of wooden end tables and a coffee table and it really gave them an updated look and breathed new life into old pieces.

HANDS-DOWN, ‘KILZ’ -(Multi Purpose Primer)- has been our choice for YEARS!! For as long as I can EVER remember, there has been at least 2 different types of ‘KILZ’ products in our home, at ALL TIMES! -(I’m now 63 yrs.
young!)- & when I was in my late elementary yrs, we decided to renovate & restore an old farm house & a barn on property. My mother is quite the ‘dynamo’ & ‘Kilz’ products were the first things she purchased for it all! Every single ‘KILZ’ product has always given us superior results, no matter what we used it for or put it on! Wether it using the Original Primer or the Multipurpose, depending on the project needs or location-(interior or heavy duty exterior, at the time)-there were always excellent results & have never needed to repeat any steps when applied, on anything, anywhere! A few years after that experience, we purchased a large property and built a new house & barn.
Shall I say again what were the first few items we purchased?? Right! ‘KILZ’ products and we were armed’ with confidence and ready for anything! Many years later, as I return each time back to that home & property, I always think how beautiful & sturdy it still is! And how we began those projects have stood the test of time with great endurance & maintenance free KILZ products.
Today, I always have several projects going on at all times, and am never without my tried & tested KILZ! Only now, I get the opportunity to test & use the newer products that time & technological advances have allowed and looking very forward to everything! Thank you, KILZ Company, for always being able to trust in you & still supplying joys for this ‘do-it-myself’ gal! -(Oh & P.
S. :each of my three children are believers as well! And no less important, thank you so much for adding the color pallets!! I see even more opportunities ahead & looking very forward to the entire spectrum! Here’s to a great colorful future! Bravo! Well done!.
I’ve used plenty of primers in my homes over the past 40 years. I’ve started with the inexpensive primers as I thought primer is primer. Boy was I ignorant. Sometime in the 1990s I was trying to “cover up” my infant child’s fancy new artwork in our rented home.
I certainly didn’t want to forfeit my deposit so I planned to paint the walls to hide the “art”. The primer I started using didn’t cover much at all. The black markings were still vividly visible through several coats of the cheaper primer.
I believe an employee at the local hardware store told me about Kilz. As I felt I had nothing left to lose a can went home with me and soon I applied another primer coating. The Kilz did exactly as the clerk said.
It “killed” the markings completely after 2 coats. Nothing was visible! That was an awesome product and I have been sold on Kilz ever since. For the past 12 years my home is a 120 year old farm house that I’ve been working on seemingly continually and we’ve used Kilz or Kilz 2 almost exclusively.
The only time we will deviate from our “go to” primer is when it’s not available. Then we only get enough to do the job and that’s it. I’ve used Kilz on fresh drywall and over top of existing paint with stellar results even with lower cost paints.
I can not say enough good about Kilz. Thank you for such a good product. Success breeds success. Exceeding expected results instills confidence and creates repeat customers as well as customers willing to try new products.
Our fast-drying, multi-surface paint primer applies easily to conceal imperfections and block stains while providing a long-lasting bond to a variety of interior and exterior surfaces. It’s the foundation for a flawless paint job.
I’m a beginner DIY painter and have never painted anything before. Our new house came with some dark beige and tan colors which were covered with crayon marks, scuffs, and just overall uninspiring color choices that we wanted to cover.
I painted most of our walls white and the rooms some fun colors, so I wanted to make sure that all imperfections were covered and we didn’t have any problems with the new colors showing. WOW, the primer is AMAZING! It absolutely covered dark colors and really allowed the new colors to show up in truest form.
This was great at helping smooth out imperfections like some DIY spackling we did and little thumbtack holes. I also used this in my bathrooms, and on my ceiling to really help our paint withstand the humidity in there.
All of our Clare wall and trim paints adhered to the primer like a dream and it made application so easy! I couldn’t believe I painted the house on my own because it *almost* looks like a professional did them (if I do say so myself).
We calculated the square footage of our walls, and purchased 15 gallons of primer to cover ~4200 SF. Unfortunately for us, we painted on the primer much too thin initially, but even still it covered exceptionally well! We didn’t even use half of the primer, and the color on top still turned out perfectly.
(It helped that we sanded the walls first I think. ) I’d definitely recommend if this is your first time painting, read the blog posts and use the Clare website calculator before starting your project or making your purchase.
We definitely over purchased, but now I just have a reason to paint the remainder of the house! 🙂 The quality of this primer is excellent. It covered even the most hideous of an old orange color, and left us with an amazing base to paint on our gorgeous Clare paint selections.
We have used Fresh Kicks eggshell paint and this primer from Clare so far for our living room. and there has been NO strong odor. I’m extremely sensitive to smells in general and I’m currently pregnant.
I never left the room and was able to help my husband paint. We were even able to stay in the living room post painting because we weren’t bothered. We had some windows cracked for safety and airflow still, but my husband is still in awe of how there was no strong odor and the paint came out beautifully! With a current toddler and dog running around the house, and a baby on the way.
we will be using Clare for a lot more future projects around the house! Thank you!.

IšverstiShow in original languageWe have recently been remodeling our home, pulling out the old 1979s blue carpet and replacing it with vinyl plank. We have 2 dogs and 1 cat that we rescued from the side of the road.
These animals have had accidents on the floor and I was worried about them doing it on the new floors. After we pulled the carpet up, we used this Kilz restoration to paint the majority of the subfloor to hopefully prevent the animals from smelling previous spots and the smell.
It has been 3 months since using this product on our subfloor with ZERO accidents from the animals. This product was easy to roll or paint on, had amazing coverage, and we will be using it for the downstairs remodeling now also.
It only took one coat in many areas with a thick coverage that didn’t make me want to put a 2nd coat. I am highly impressed with the outcome after using this product and we will be using it more often and especially during our remodel.
KILZ Original is a fast drying interior oil-base primer-sealer-stainblocker that can be topcoated with latex or oil-base paint. The original stain-blocking primer tackles the toughest stains, including water, smoke, tannin, ink, felt markers and grease.
Seals odors caused by fire, smoke, nicotine and pet stains.
I purchased this in 5g container to 1) cover nicotine and tar on a heavily smoked in home. On beginning project realized wallpaper had to come down due to damage, unfortunately, 40 year old wallpaper does not remove from bare drywall easily and paper was covering a lot of damage, so also used it to prime the drywall, then skim coats of mud/joint compound (mud would not have reacted well with any wall paper glue that was remaining on the walls).
Drop ceilings are receiving a coat of primer to cover the damage/stains for at least short term while we decide what to do about the ceilings. This works well on plaster walls, drywall, wallpaper, paneling (I put joint compound over paneling first to hide the “grooves” and make a smooth surface), metal drop ceiling tracks and the foam/fiberboard drop ceilings.
Cons: Pouring oil based primer from a small spout on a 5 gallon container was very cumbersome – would probably pay more and get gallons next time, cleanup (oil based so definitely not simple – but did not expect it to be) and the smell!.
Had a tenant renting my 50 year old, 5 bedroom house and they had 3 large dogs plus 2 cats that they apparently kept indoors and it appeared that they never let their pets out to relieve themselves. nor did they ever clean up the mess the pets made.
I tried everything from vinegar, baking soda, industrial cleaners and more but nothing worked to get rid of the awful pet odors. I almost gave up until I came across articles on the internet regarding the success people were having using Kilz original oil based primer to basically encapsulate the problem.
People, IT WORKS! I used a 3/8″ nap paint roller and basically paired the wood sub floor. It went on smooth & fast and dry time was less than 45 minutes. I only applied one generous coat and when I came back the next day, the place had the new house smell.
and still does 2 weeks later. What a fantastic and amazing product! I don’t know who to thank but am grateful I read some of the comments & reviews online otherwise I never would’ve known. Of course obvious thanks to Kilz for such an amazing product as well!.
We bought our first house which is a 1976 fixer upper and the interior had crazy colors in each room but worse than that was the mixed smell of pet urine and smoke. We cleaned what we could but it only helped so much.
We used kilz original and bc it was one of the few primers that said it helped with odor as well as color block. The product is oil based whi h makes it a bit more difficult to use and a bit strong of a smell but wow! It sealed everything and now it smells like a new house and looks like one too! We painted one room without kilz and we regretted it when we could start to smell the smoke through it.
Another time I went to buy this product the store was out of stock and I got a different brand and it was so much worse in quality and leveling. I returned it and drove to a further store to buy kilz.
Prepare for a painting or restoration project by first coating a surface with the KILZ Original Oil-Based Primer 1 Gallon Can. It dries quickly and is suitable for interior use. The VOC-compliant formula blocks stains caused by smoke, tannin and water.
It also seals porous surfaces against further liquid exposure and covers up odors. This fast-drying primer can be used with latex- or oil-based paint and improves coverage so your newly applied color goes further.
ZINSSER Bulls-Eye 1-2-3 primer is a high-hiding, all purpose, primer-sealer and stain blocker that provides up to 20% more coverage than competitive products. It blocks and seals stains caused by water, nicotine, smoke, tannin, pencil, ink, grease and felt marker and seals smoke and pet odors.
It is suitable for use on any interior or exterior wood, concrete, drywall or non-galvanized metal, including hard-to-paint surfaces such as railings, shutters and outdoor furniture. It is ideal for sealing spackle, drywall repairs and hiding dark colors.
It has excellent adhesion to glossy paint, glass and ceramic tile.
I use a lot of this successfully for a quick primer on most surfaces for use indoors and outside. The spray tip always gets paint on the finger, bad. Also, when the can is getting near empty, the spray is too wet (not aerosoled fine enough).
AFM Safecoat Transitional Primer, White Gallon Can 1/Case – 80190 Safecoat Transitional Primer is a premium quality, waterbased, flat finish universal primer specifically formulated to solve difficult application problems without the use of toxic and malodorous chemicals.
Because it has an extremely tight and efficient polymer network, it is well suited for transitioning from existing oil based painted surfaces to waterbased coatings. It is useful as a stain blocker for many of the knot holes, water soluble stains and oils, tannins and terpenes in wood which can “bleed through” to the surface upon the application of traditional waterbased primers.
Like all Safecoat paints, it is the least toxic product of its type, and contains no naphtha or other aromatic solvents, and no formaldehyde, ethylene glycol, ammonia, acetone, heavy metals, crystalline silica or other carcinogenic or hazardous materials.
Safecoat Transitional Primer is naturally low in odor, and unlike other paints contains no masking agents or fragrances to hide the smells of toxic chemicals.
The primer is very very creamy. It gives poor results with a brush or a roller. As we didn’t have an airless sprayer, we used a Wagner HLVP double duty spray gun. In order to get the primer to a consistency that can be used with this sprayer, we had to add 3x more water than the recommendation for the primer.
Despite that, the primer covered the unfinished wood really well and also stuck really well to the wood. I am satisfied with the product, I would buy it again and I would be curious to see how it works with the recommended airless sprayer.
I cannot attest for lack of smells, my parts were kept and installed in ventilated areas. In these conditions, there was indeed no smell.
I bought this primer to seal some new drywall that was installed after some built-in cabinetry with a tile surround was removed. There was no wallboard behind it so a piece of sheetrock had to be installed to complete the wall.
The upper existing drywall was uneven so the new piece required a lot of mud to match up and even out. When the mud is wet the fumes make me ill. This was taking a while to dry so I used this primer to seal it.
Seemed to stop the fumes in a few days. I can’t say for sure as I don’t know how long it would have fumed if I didn’t use this and I have not used it before. I also don’t know if I was just smelling the primer as it does have a low odor that is not really great smelling, kind of chalky and sort of “chemically” but not the kind of fumes that knock me out so I can’t say the addition of the primer made me feel worse than I did already from the drywall mud.
But all is well now, wall is finished and painted and I don’t smell anything.

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! This paint has terrible adhesion. I’ve used a lot of different paints recently on woodwork and furniture. The good ones do not wash off your hands easily. This garbage didn’t adhere to ANYTHING! The furniture is pretty much ruined.
You touch it and the paint comes off. Horrible! All advertising hype and it doesn’t deliver on any of its promises. It also took 2 coats to cover. World’s most expensive paint and sooooo not worth it.
I absolutely love this paint. No odor at all. Very thick like pudding but goes on very well. Did 40 kitchen cabinets with two coats and still have half of the gallon left. Clean up is simple. Used the soft gray and the color was perfect.
No sanding or priming. I cleaned all my cabinets with Simple Green prior to painting them. Highly recommend this paint. If you are not sure about the color you can buy a pint first to try it out before buying a gallon can.
Premium meets practical with Clark+Kensington Premium Exterior paint. Clark+Kensington Exterior paint stands up to the elements; resists cracking peeling and flaking and provides mold and mildew resistant finish.
Paint + Primer in One cuts down on work and saves you time. Tintable to all 1100+ gorgeous designer colors in the Clark+Kensington color palette and can be color matched to any color.
We are extremely disappointed in the quality of this paint. We were fans of Clark+Kensington paints up until this purchase. We had painted 6 rooms in our home with this paint in the last 10 years, with most of the rooms only requiring 1 coat to provide excellent coverage.
We are CERTAIN the formulation of this paint has changed. We purchased 2 cans recently to cover approx. 600 sq ft of space. One can is supposed to cover approx. 400-450 sq ft, so we had hoped we would have some leftover to do spot coverage if needed in the future.
The paint does not spread well at all, whether you are using a roller or a brush. We had purchased high quality trim brushes, and ended up having to purchase different rollers because the paint was coming off the wall as we were rolling it on! We have found that it has taken not 1, not 2, not 3, but FOUR COATS to cover a neutral beige that was on the wall, with a neutral off-white.
In other words, we are not trying to cover a dark color! This is ridiculous, expensive and very time-consuming! Please look elsewhere for a paint that is higher quality, because this is no longer that kind of product.
We have done numerous painting projects with many different brands of paint in the last 30 years, none have caused as much frustration or been as costly as this paint.
Over the last 30 year I have painted four homes top to bottom. I have used most ever brand of paint…Sherwin Williams, Behr, Valsphar, Pratt Lambert, Pittsburgh, etc. I brought Clark and Kensington recently because I was having trouble finding the right color.
Though the color was perfect, there is NOTHING I MEAN NOTHING flat about their “flat” paint. It has shine and has the appearance of an eggshell or satin. The paint was bought for a room that I wanted a flat appearance.
Over 45 years of painting home interiors, I have never had a reaction to painting before. Used this product (Clark+Kensington semi gloss) ended up with severe cold/flu like symptoms – severe throat and lung irritant – cough so bad had to go to Dr.
– issued prescriptions of prednisone, and Benzonatate, plus 1 other. Only painted 1 bathroom and 1 small laundry room – used 1 gallon and it had this effect. 🙁 3 weeks of feeling sick and still lingering).
