20 Best No Pull Harness For Small Dogs (2023 Updated)

If you have had issues with other harnesses chafing your dog’s skin, GET THIS HARNESS. Seriously. I was so frustrated after having bought two much more expensive harnesses that chafed my dog under his armpits.

This harness is so soft and sits back away from my dog’s armpits (something I was having a lot of trouble finding). My dog loves it and so do I. The only thing I would caution is for owners of dogs who are escape artists.

If your dog is an escape artist, you may need a more secure/structured harness. This harness has held my dog back from lunging straight ahead at other dogs no problem, but if your dog is going to try to wiggle and back out of it, it may not work for you.

For the rest of us, thank god this harness exists.

This harness is exactly what I was looking for. I like the “step in” style with the hooks/closure on the back. My dog is 15 pounds but her chest/front is bigger. She has been able to get out of other harnesses because they don’t fit quite right.

This harness has velcro as well as the snap closure, so I can adjust the fit more and make it snug on her body. Much more secure! Recommend! I also love the purple color. Make sure you look at the sizing chart and actually measure your dog.

I didn’t do this and ordered a small for my girl. Tried to put it on and it was way too small! I ended up needing a size large for her. Luckily the size small fits my other little dog perfectly. So now they have matching harnesses :).

I can’t say enough good about this harness. Our chihuahua is a larger one and got a really nice harness from Chewy but he kept getting a leg over it, just couldn’t get it adjusted high enough by the chest area.

Sent for the Voyager after a comment about a lady with a dog who got out of every harness but this one. She was right. It is higher up and closer to the neck without putting pressure on the neck at all.

There is no way he can get a foot over the front of the harness. Fits him perfectly he is comfortable, and easy to put on. He is 15# and we got the medium and fits perfectly. If you have an odd shaped dog or even a normal one , try this harness.

I can’t imagine these breaking as some reviews say. My 55lb American Staffordshire Terrier/Boxer lunges, attempting to chase and attempts to back out of this harness. She has pulled me off the ground pulling with her lunging.

This harness is holding up completely. I’m 6′ tall, not a little person. My dog has some serious pulling power to lift me off the ground. I use a flexi leash so I have time to stand firmly before she pulls me.

(So she can’t knock me on the ground) I lock the leash and hold a firm grip. She’s never broke the harness no matter how hard she lunges. My dog isn’t allowed to chew on her leash or harness. That’s the only way I could see this breaking.

if my dog were to chew it. I have 3 dogs, none can escape from the harness.

My dog gets excited over a lot, and we go for walks in the park where there are lots of moving leaves/other dogs/birds/you name it that she would very much like to go investigate. Bottom line, the harness doesn’t stop pulling, but it does definitely reduce the “yank intensity”! I can see when she tries to pull that it tightens around her and makes her think twice – again, not a miracle cure, but definitely makes walks more pleasant versus a harness that doesn’t tighten around her chest at all.

The only warning I’d have is that the metal ring where you’d clip a leash can swing about if your dog is running with just the harness on. It’s a little tricky to figure out how to put it on at first (both “sets” of loops slide over your dog’s head, and then you have them step into it so the cushions are under their armpits), but easy after a bit.

I am obsessed with this harness! I’ve been through at least 5 others, some not bad others a total waste of money. I won’t lie when I first opened it it looked a little complicated but once you get the hang of it it couldn’t be easier.

I have a 16 pound Cavalier King Charles spaniel she is right on the border between a size small or a medium. I decided to go on the safe side and got the medium. It’s so adjustable it fits her just perfect with room for growth if she puts on a few pounds.

She loves it and I love it I can tell it’s very comfortable for her. It’s great quality and the price is reasonable. I’ve bought my last harness for her!.

I’d been shopping around for a no pull harness, but they either cause pain or they don’t really make a difference. This one is my favorite! If my dog pulls, it tightens, but then loosens back up as soon as he stops tugging.

He is a one year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with boundless energy. He still pulls, but not so hard that I feel that the leash might break, so I am happy! It’s adjustable at the neck, but he is still pretty small so I’ve left it as is for now, and there is also an adjustment for the legs, so the harness won’t get loose enough for him to step out of.

It attaches from the ring at the top of the harness to the leash, and the top part of the harness is still small enough to weave through the opening in his jacket, so I just push it through the hole in the jacket and it’s snug, but still works fine.

It’s a really great fit!.

This product is of no use for large breed dogs. (In my case, a Dane. ) The clip loop at the front has too much freedom, resulting in the leash tether-point running from either shoulder. This offers some sideways control of the dog, but not the advertised front control from the chest.

The buckles don’t hold the harness well and so slacken instantly. Again, this reduces the effectiveness of the harness in controlling the dog. The product lasted less than 6 months before breaking. (The stitching holding the tether-point broke.

) If I could rate 0 stars, I would. Not recommended. Dont waste your money.

We have two large dogs and both are pullers. We tried the Halti harness on our youngest first, a 15-month-old 84 lb. Great Pyrenees/Lab X who is freakishly strong and likes to take ME for a walk. The change was instantaneous.

The moment I put it on it’s like he knew his pulling days were over. He’s gone from pulling to walking next to me, if he wanders off course a gentle tug brings him back in line. We liked the Halti harness so much the next day we bought a second for our 4-year-old Swiss Shepherd and now walking our two dogs is much more enjoyable.

This harness is great when you have a new pup and want to keep them from biting the leash as you leash train given that it’s positioned to help the leash stay behind their head. It also allows you to safely pick up your pup with the support under the chest that you don’t get with a traditional dog collar.

The only con about this is that I bought two – one xs and one small as my pup transitioned in size and both the stitching started unraveling around the should area where I know the dog couldn’t have possibly been gnawing at that area.

With both harnesses, it happened around the two month mark. That would be the only reason that I would say not to purchase this particular brand.

My dog can’t back out of this harness, and it’s a choke-free walk now! We leave her collar w/I. D. tags on always, but she steps right into this comfortable, padded, non-escape harness for her walks.

We can tell she loves her new “harness and leash when we walk her! No more hacking and irritation to her throat and neck from pulling with the previous “collar and leash” walks! After trial and error, I wish I would have purchased this sooner, but now she gets extra walks that are comfortable; definitely worth the price.

She is a 20-lb. girl with a deep chest, and I bought a Medium — it’s very adjustable and safe. It’s so much easier for her to step into than the previous harnesses I tried with all the buckles and confusing straps.

Plus, she looks cute in it.

I bought this harness nearly 10 months ago and have used it daily since. This harness was ideal for my dog: minimal fabric, a highly adjustable design, multiple quick-release buckles and both front and back attachment points.

No harness will magically fix pulling, but this harness was a helpful tool as I trained my dog to walk with a loose lead. I used the front attachment point when training him leash manners and have now transitioned to primarily using the back attachment point for comfort.

Occasionally, I use both attachment points for greater control: the harness is seriously versatile. It’s held up reasonably well to rain, snow and swimming. I only have minor issues with this product.

First, some of the hardware does not seem to be rust-proof and has left minor rust stains on the grey webbing. The hardware does not corroded to the point of losing structural integrity, despite the stains.

Second, the chest strap, while adjustable, doesn’t really hold the position of the metal slider, so needs constant readjustment or it’ll end up fully extended. This is fine for my dog’s size/shape but may not work for everyone.

I still highly recommend this harness and would absolutely buy it again when the time comes. My main hope is that the metal hardware will be made more rust-proof in the future. My dog weighs approximately 32lbs and wears a size small.

I ordered one each of these in the medium and large. I really like the design with the front and back clips for my dogs who do tend to pull too often. They seem well made however I would prefer a metal clips to the plastic clips that they opted to use on these.

My main problem is that the sizing was just wrong for my dogs. I understand it must be difficult to make something that fits the shape of a variety of dog breeds but I had trouble with I had trouble with fitting both dogs even using the provided measurements.

I ordered both a medium and a large. For both of these my dogs were at the bottom of the neck range. With the large even though I tightened it to the smallest size it was still several inches too big on my dogs neck.

The medium, while a bit loose around the dogs neck was not as far off in measurement as large. While there is some overlap in the sizing provided going down to from the large to a medium does not work for my dog because the medium simply wouldn’t go around the girth.

The medium I was able to make the girth fit fairly well on the dog it was purchased for. However this left still a slight neck gap plus a problem with the chest strap. The chest strap tightened to its shortest length was still too long and hung away from the dogs chest, it would not fit close the way it is meant to in the fitting instructions.

Unfortunately, these were not what I was hoping for and I don’t believe they fit properly based on the measurements provided.

We’ve had the same “gentle leader” harnesses for the life of our two senior dogs but we finally had to admit they’d seen better days. It was nearly impossible to find something similar that has the hook for the leash on the back instead of the chest.

Finally found this one and it’s pretty darn close to the original except the fit is not perfect. Both our dogs are on the longer side but still only ~ 40 pounds. The small worked great for our slightly smaller dog but was too small for our bigger dog, yet the medium is a little on the big side.

Sags on his underside and we have tightened it as far as it will go. When the dogs start to pull, the harness accordions around their neck. They love that we no longer have to put the harness over their heads! The seat belt feature is great and eliminated a separate car harness, but the little leash that comes with it for getting in and out of the car is ridiculously short.

Finally, the teal looks like more of a green than seafoam. Both our dogs are male but we wanted different colors so I was pleased.

When these first came out on QVC my husband and I got it for our puggle dog Butchy. Half pug the daddy Sir Manny and beagle mama Dam: Misty. We got Butch from a reputable breeder in Southeastern Indiana, a lovely farm and happiest place on earth for puppies to run and play.

🙂 Butch got a lot of his Amish mama’s traits laid back most of the time but at times ornery full of energy and running after critters mostly squirls that he pulled his ACL jumping off the deck and running after one and had to have his leg in a special cast and had to wear the cone of shame for a few weeks lol.

Did he learn his lesson nope lol! Over the years we tried many harnesses, but none would work only but this one. I can’t thank you enough for your product how it helped train Butch when old enough to walk with a harness lead to be more calm and more in control and a happy walker instead of tugging and pulling or he would have a tantrum sit and not budge lol.

Years pass quickly to be suddanly mid 60s and senior and the harness was used often and is still in good shape after 10+ years and tucked away. My husband and Butch recently passed on 2 years ago a few days from each other of cancer and are together in heaven.

Have a 2 year old 70 lb. pitbull mix. Very strong, muscular, loves to chase squirrels. He would get excited when he saw deer while out on our walks. He’s been trained (stop, sit, down, come, leave it, heel), but would get excited and pull like a maniac when he saw deer.

We tried many harnesses, and a year ago the trainer recommended a Sprenger collar. The dog walks great with it, and I can control him when we encounter deer. It’s time to transition to a regular leash/harness.

Test drove the Harness Lead today, and it works GREAT!! Absolutely no pulling, even when we passed by several deer. It was easy to put on (instructions are inside the box, and video on their website).

It’s a substantial rope. Read complaints that it’s too long & slippery. I keep him on a short lead walking next to me. I just loop it over my index finger and hold it there. And the Harness Lead is made in the USA!!! Great product, very happy with the results!!!.

I have a large, growing, German Shepherd puppy and I was tired of putting on a separate harness and then keeping the leash separate when a full harness wasn’t needed. I’ve gotta say I don’t love this.

Once I figured it out, putting it on and taking it off was easy to understand. But trying to explain to someone else where the handle goes thru the loop resulted in it not being done correctly or just letting it go the way it was.

The rubber disc is just not a quick and easy on/off and has pulled hair out on numerous occasions. I’m sad because I wanted to love it. But a big dog pulling on a single cord does not cut it. Of course I will keep it but I’ve ordered a more standard easy on/off harness and separate leash.

Sorry, I love the colors but the style needs to change to be more useful across the board.

We ordered this online and were surprised by the item we picked up. Looks totally different and the sizing on pack is dramatically different from what is shown in the product image online. Our dog is in the middle of the ranges listed for “Small” by the sizing chart online, but was too big for the item we received which quoted his size measurement at the very top end.

Separately, this thing is not easy to use. It’s got a pull tie closure and we could not figure out how to get the dog into it had it been his right size. There are instructions on the back with images that help but our dog would not let us take the time to put on like that.

The page made it seem more like a step through harness which we wanted.

Have purchased several harnesses as my pitbull has grown. This is by far the best. Fits well and allows plenty of room for growth. Pup appears comfortable in it. Allows the dog walker more control. Would recommend.

I have bought many harnesses for our 11 pound shihtzu but was not happy with any. Some she could walk out of. Some were rough and looked uncomfortable. I read the reviews for this harness and decided to try one more time.

It is perfect. It is soft and cushioned under her legs and can be pulled snug when on leash if needed. The only inconvenience is that the strap on top where it is adjusted is about 6 inches long and bothers her when hanging loose, so I can’t leave it on all day.

I have looped it back over her head and tucked it into the vest occasionally. That works, but she can pull it out and chew it. I highly recommend this harness.

I bought it for my chiciuiiua poodle 🐩 mix yes and she is a service dog and enjoys it. She is only 3 years old puppy 🐶 she is cute yes very good product I recommend it everyone who loves it

I have a Bluetick hound who is relatively well trained. Despite this, she is a hound and can be stubborn. If she sees a cat, good luck. I have tried walking her with a collar, which she can slip right out of, no matter how snug it is.

I have another harness and that helped, but she could still be hard to control. She came from the prison pups program with one of these harnesses on. I know she walked well in the program. After putting the harness on correctly (it was backwards and upside down when I got her), I was amazed at the instant turn around in her behavior.

The harness is a little difficult to figure out at first but each strap is labeled with the location of where it should go. Just remember to unbuckle the black strap to take it off and it is ready to use.

It may take a little trial and error to get it adjusted correctly but it is worth the effort. It also washes like a dream. I do wish the leash was rounded instead of flat. It is wide, because of the size of the dog.

It is uncomfortable to hold across the palm of my hand. I hold the loop in one hand, which is fine, but I hold take the slack of the leash up in my other hand. That is where it is uncomfortable. I am a small woman so someone with bigger hands might not have this issue.

I love my puppy so much, but she was the worst to walk: pulling, jumping, zig-zagging, etc. This harness was a game changer. It can feel a little weird at first, but there’s no arguing with the results! She walks SO well now! No more pulling and in general so much better.

She’s still a puppy, so she’s not perfect but SO MUCH better than she use to be! This harness is definitely worth a try. Also for size reference we got a small for our (almost) 16lb cockapoo and it fits great!.

It’s a nice harness and the material seems strong. I bought this harness in a red xs for a mini poodle. The measurements and the weight were right but the harness didn’t fit right. The girth fit fine because it’s adjustable.

The part that goes over the head is not. I can barely get his head through the opening but when the harness is on the chest part is too big. When he walks it turns sideways and his front leg comes through the shoulder part.

A very awkward fit so it’s a no for us.

I got this, because the first activity board I got for my cat, was maybe too difficult for him. This one was a little more his speed, and kept him entertained for a good 15 minutes. He was able to get all the treats, except for the ones in the bowl and the little squares.

He gave up after AWHILE of trying, I had to the. Take them out for him, cause I could see he was getting frustrated. But overall, I’m really happy with this purchase, and I will continue to use it, so he can get better at it.

I got this for my English Bulldog. I had gotten a similar one from a different site that I used on her for a little while but the straps in the front sat a little lower, therefore not allowing as much control as I needed.

My mom wanted a harness that clips like this for her English Bulldog puppy but the site I got the other harness off of didn’t have the color she wanted, yellow. So I looked around and found this one for her and she loves it.

The straps sit much higher up. So eventually I decided to order one of these in the coral color and it works so much better. My bulldog also has a lot of anxiety and certain noises makes her try to pull out of her harness and this harness works very well with preventing her from doing that.

Been using this harness for a couple weeks now and we’re very impressed so far. We have a hound dog so going for a ” Normal” walk doesn’t exist for her! Shes always on the trail of something and walks you for the most part.

This harness is very well made. We tried it on our older dog who has never used a harness. She weighs about 50 lbs and since it is adjustable the medium size fit her perfectly. She seemed comfortable in the harness.

Took her for a walk and as the product stated there was absolutely no pull!! The harness was also very easy to put on our dog. We walk her everyday and will definitely be using this harness.

i have a corgi heller mix (40 lbs) and i bought the medium for him from the zee dog website. they’ve since taken the harness off their website so i came here to review it. i honestly wish i could return it to zee dog but it’s outside of the return window.

i feel like the proportions of the straps are off. my dog doesn’t have off proportions except for his legs. i can’t get the back strap to the right length to fit across his back all the way out and the part that goes behind his legs seems too tight.

every time he goes a head of me or slightly pulls on the harness, one or both of his legs slip out and on occasion, he escapes the harness. i’m not sure if that’s a result of his legs being short or not, but i won’t be using this harness anymore, i’ll be going back to the ruffwear front range!.

I ordered this item for my dog to replace a top-clip/mesh torso style harness that he just was always too excited and getting his head stuck in. When it arrived, even though it looks nothing like his old harness, he knew exactly what it was and got really excited for the walk he knew was coming.

It’s been a long time since I have used a harness in this style, so I did have to find a youtube video showing how to put this type on, but once I figured it out it actually makes perfect sense and is easy.

It’s nice that the part that straps underneath his chest/behind his legs is that alternating color. The adjustment points are useful and generous. My dog weighs ~25 pounds, is half poodle/half schnauzer, so he is long legged for a dog that weight, but skinny ribs and a skinny neck.

This harness worked perfectly underneath a little rain coat that has a hole on the back of it for a harness connection– I simply ignored that connection point and clipped the leash to the front clip on this harness, which lined up great with the neckline of the rain coat.

Despite measuring carefully, exactly how the video instructs, the straps can not adjust for the proper fit of my young Lab. The front strap is too short, causing the harness to be so far forward that it cuts under her legs.

I will have to return this item and look for another option.
