20 Best No Damage Wall Hangers (2023 Updated)

I have purchased over $100 worth of command strips over time. The outdoor light hangers and strips are excellent. The indoor small picture hangers are so-so, just hard to actually disengage back (attached to wall) from front (attached to picture) before allowing the glue to dry.

Even when I followed the directions exactly, 3 of my larger frames fell, one in the middle of the night. They seemed to hold for about 4 months, then one by one started to fall. When pulling on the tab to remove the the wall mounted strips, paint and wall texture both came off.

I used heavier weighted strips and weighed each picture before hanging. One is an antique oil painting with of course no glass, but a custom frame that now is damaged. The less expensive frame was damaged on the 9×12 when it fell.

My walls are painted in flat paint and as 90% homes in the West Coast or Hawaii, have a slight orange peel, which 3M customer service said would be fine. No looking forward to all the replacement of the frames or re-texturing, patching and re-texturing.

The ads on TV are very misleading for how easy or well the product works for picture hanging. As I mentioned, the outdoor for lights as well as the hooks for hanging things do work.

I have purchased Command strips in every size and find them really useful. I have hung multiple pictures, photo frames and canvases. I tend to apply a couple more strips than the instructions suggest purely to err on the side of caution.

I’ve also adopted a slightly different technique to that suggested on the instructions as it works better in our home than the one on the packaging: measure up and use a pencil to lightly mark out the location on the wall.

Squish both vercro strips together, sticking them to the frame and pushing down really hard. Then before the backing paper is removed, offer up the frame to the wall and double check the location, add a spirit level to check all’s good.

Finally, remove the backing paper and push hard on each set of strips for a good minute or two. No complaints so far!.

Over the years I have purchased many, many different hooks, have learnt the hard way. Other hooks may be cheaper, but it ends up being a waste of money, because they end up in the bin. Where as these COMMAND hooks genuinely work, are easy to use.

They require no nail, so no hole in the wall, perfect for renters. And when it’s time to move just pull the tab, they come off, leaving NO mark whatsoever. When I need to hang something, I get a rough idea of its weight, buy whatever size hook that holds that amount of weight.

I will never buy cheap hooks ever again. At least I learnt my lesson, – finally.

Preparing for my son moving into his dorm room. He is concerned about not having some of his stuff with him. Command Hooks are perfect. They adhere well to the walls. They can hold light weight and medium weight items.

Ive been using command hooks for years now, and I have never had a problem with their products. They are great and do what they are supposed to do. This 1 star review is more about the seller than the product.

They sent me the hooks in a plastic bag. Command hooks usually come in their own sealed packaging. That would have been OK if the hooks were brand new. But I can clearly see they are pre used hooks. They have scratch marks on them, they dont even look like their usual bright white colour, they have a light yellow tinge to them and they also have a distinctive smell to them.

The marks are hard to see on the camera, but in person its clear as day that they are not new. I will be returning these and do not recommend anyone buys from this seller.

These are great to have around the household. The ways in which you can use them are literally endless. I love organizing things so these come in especially handy for me. And as long as you peel them very gently, you can get away without peeling any paint from your wall.

Pictured here is some of my most used kitchen utensils hanging up near my stove using different sizes of these hooks such as measuring cups and spoons, two different sizes of tongs, and kitchen scissors.

The easy access to these items makes cooking much easier and organized for me! Definitely reccommend!.

A few years ago, I bought a large package (18 hooks) at COSTCO because I have used Command products in the past and was happy with them. Today I went to hang some hooks and found that the adhesive on the strips had dried out, so the product is useless.

I did an online chat with a 3M representative who said that’s what happens to adhesive. I mentioned that neither the package or the FAQs on this website mention a “use by” date, and that the package was stored in a Zip Loc bag in a sealed plastic bin in a temperature stable environment.

I am frustrated by the response, and will hesitate to buy any Command product in the future unless I plan to use it immediately.

These Command hooks are amazing. I had smaller ones that I was trying to hold up a balloon garland with and they kept falling. I purchased these right before the party and it’s been hanging up for over 24 hours now.

That’s with toddler pulling on the balloons too! These things are strong and so easy to install.

Painting kept falling so I took command of the situation and went down to my local CTC store and picked this up. Walked out knowing that the painting would get the hook and stay put. These are not cheap but I dont want to disturb the lead paint on the wall so 3M to the rescue.

I mean, we have trusted their tape for years on our xmas gifts so why not trust 3M to hold up that rare Mona Lisa. Problem solved.

Again, 3M Command Hooks have not disappointed me. I received the Jumbo Hook from 3M, at no cost, as part of their product evaluation program and I am very happy that they finally have one that can hold more weight.

I have been using the Command Hooks for a couple of years and think they are awesome. The Jumbo Hook is great because is can hold 7. 5lbs and I feel it could hold a bit more due to past experiences with their other hooks.

When I opened the package, I noticed the back of the hook, the part that attaches to the wall, was different. You can slide the actual hook off the back which is a nice feature to adhere it to the wall.

The instructions on the back of the package are clear however I did have some difficulty separating the 2 pieces. The hook part and surrounding face plate slide up and off of the back that adheres to the wall.

Doing this for the first time requires a bit of force but the 2 pieces will separate. I didn’t feel like the pieces were flimsy or would snap and/or crack. To clarify though, I did not follow the directions exactly.

I separated the 2 pieces before I attached it to the wall even though the instructions state to do this after you attach it to the wall. The reason for this is so you can put a lot of even pressure on the back plate to get the strongest adhesion.

I feel that separating the 2 pieces before attaching works better due to the design of the hook. The back plate that you attach the sticky pads to is slightly recessed from the rest of the hook so I felt just having the back plate on the wall by itself would allow me to apply more even pressure.

After I attached the hook to the back plate, I left it alone for a couple of hours. The package says wait 1 hour before hanging though. I hung my step stool and it is still hanging 5 days later. I don’t know the exact weight of the stool but it’s not light and pushes the weight limit of 7.

5lbs. Overall, I am happy with the new Jumbo Hook. The hook itself is wide but does not protrude from the wall very much which can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on what you want to hang. The handle of the step stool fits well but anything with a larger diameter will not hang.

I think multiples hung horizontally would be nice to hang longer items that you want to keep off the floor or your shelves. Hopefully there will be additional hooks that will hold a heavier weight because once you start using these, you won’t want to go back to using nails, hooks or other hangers.

I received this 60lb wall hanger for free in exchange for my honest review and opinion. When I first received the hanger, I thought it was very tiny and didn’t quite believe that something so small can uphold 60lb of weight.

But to my surprise, I sure can’t judge a book by its cover! Wasn’t sure how to apply the hanger at first glance because I never seen such a shape, but installation turned out to be easy. But strength is definitely need to push the grips into the drywalls.

Removing is easy as well with minimal damage to the wall. Been hanging my children’s portrait with heavy frames without any problems. Overall great product because I don’t have to hammer nails on the wall which I am horrible at.

Quality is definitely made of durable material as well.

I received this product at the perfect time. I had just gotten a beautiful wooden sign to hang on a bare wall in my living room. Usually my husband would deal with the hammer and nails, but I decided to give these 20lb wall hangers a try while he was at work.

I must say, at first I struggled a bit to get these pushed in and angled properly, but once I got the hang of it with the first one, the second one was much easier. I was concerned how these hangers would stay in the wall, but surprisingly they have held up perfectly.

These hangers say they will hold up to 20lbs, and while I haven’t put that to the test, my beautiful sign is a good 10lbs and it’s holding up great! I will totally be purchasing more of these as I am in the process of repainting and redesigning my master bedroom.

High & Mighty tool-free wall hangers are just the things I’ve been looking for! I needed to hang a heavy mirror on a short wall and there was no option but to go between the studs. I measured the height, pushed the hanger into the wall, and was done! Seriously, a child could do this.

The mirror is still hanging a week later so I’m pretty sure it’s not coming down. What a great product for people who don’t keep a lot of tools around. In addition, it leaves such a small imprint that when I decide to change the decor, I’ll only have to fill two tiny holes and touch up a tiny bit of paint.

I can’t believe how much weight these hangers can hold!.

Love these Hooks. You can use them anywhere & if you made a boo boo you can easily move them. They do hang up to 10 Lbs. I even tried them to hang Jewelry from on the back of a door. I tried my heaviest Necklaces with larger stones.

They worked wonderfully. When you have natural stones they can get really heavy. The hooks were great on the door to display or store necklaces & bracelets together. There are so many uses you can uses them for, use your imagination.

We used these strips to have a certificate frame (A4) and a small frame (A5) in 2019 when we moved into our new home. They were fine until a couple of weeks ago when one fell off the wall and then a week later the other one fell as well, both times unfortunately smashing the glass in the frames.

Our house is not particularly humid but it seems that with the hot weather lately something has changed and the adhesion on the strips can no longer be guaranteed to hold frame on painted surfaces. I have always been an avid supporter of using these strips for picture hanging but I can’t take the risk in the future of repeat damage to glass frames so I won’t be buying them anymore.

I’ve been trying to hang wrapped canvas with these as well as the hangers for sawtooth hooks. The pictures are far below the weight capacity but will not stay on the wall even though I followed instructions to the letter.

Very frustrating. I finally called Command and was told even though they are far under the weight shown, the canvases are too large and the hooks will not work. This should be made much more clear on the packaging.

I wonder how many people have wasted money the same way I did.

OK, so as a collector of fine memorabilia, let’s say movie posters. I need to frame those bad boys, because some I own are worth more than the clothes on my back — it’s true really. Anyway, I didn’t want to put holes in my wall with those damn nails.

I picked up the 8lb saw-tooth hangers from the wal-mart store; you can find anything there, it’s weird. So I pick these bad boys up, and decided to do the impossible. I was going to use it. I had this giant stupid poster that’s 41×81, which if you can figure out the bigness of that in your head — it’s pretty damn big.

It takes up an entire wall, really — that’s huge. The poster sits nestled in a large frame of course, and the frame is some what heavy, but hang able. I took two of these 8lb command saw-tooth hooks, placed them on the wall for 20 minutes.

Then, I took that giant poster frame, and I stuck it against the two, balancing it out on both sides. The package told you not to, but that package can kiss my grits because guess what? For over 4 months now, that bad boy hasn’t fallen off the wall.

Why? I have no idea, I guess it’s my luck. But I recommend these because I even use ONE (properly probably) for one, smaller frame. Give it a try, and tell wal-mart Richy sent you.

If it wasn’t for Command Strips my walls would be bare! These poster strips are great for attaching lightweight items to any kind of surface, without damage to either. The strips quite literally do what the makers say they will, ie, they attach to surfaces firmly (and stay attached for indefinite periods of time) and can be removed by gently pulling the bottom of the strip downwards, thus releasing it from the surface, and no marks or sticky residues are left behind – this applies to all the different types of Command Strips available.

I’ve used these strips, and others in the range, over the last 5-6 years and have only ever had one fail, which I think is a pretty good recommendation in itself. Anyone wishing to put up a poster/lightweight picture where using nails is not an option, this is the product for for them.

These is a great product if you can’t / don’t want to drill holes in your wall to hang a picture. There are different sizes for different weights of item to be hung up so check that before committing! They are so easy to remove as well.

I would say that they don’t leave a mark when removed but of course the light does not reach to under the sticker and therefore the picture, so your surface finish is going to look different after an extended period of time.

But there will be no damage to the surface finish and that’s the important thing. You can reuse the hook if you have replacement stickers; also great if you don’t quite get the item in the right place – it’s easy to change your mind / correct mistakes! I would recommend these with no hesitation.

I have used the Command Velcro type hangers in the past. They are good but quite bulky behind a small picture. I thought these may be less conspicuous but will be going back to the Velcro. I followed the instructions, holding firm to the wall for longer than the recommended time.

These will not hold up even small light canvas pictures so I would definitely not trust them with larger or heavier ones. A waste of money.

Picture hook. Very good discreet picture or mirror holder. I used mine to fix a mirror to the back of a door (for doing my hair) that I did not want to mark permanently by making a hole in it. It is excellent value and has done the job of holding the item in place.

Its best to use picture wire on the mirror/picture as I did as string is to thick for the grove. it holds the mirror flat as the hook doesnt protrude very much at all which is good as your picture/mirror isnt tilted.

The mirror was 4lb just 1lb under the weight the instructions said the hook would hold so not a completely light mirror and I feel quite happy with the strength and holding power of the hook. Would recommend the picture hanging hook which can be removed from your wall or door in my case and leave absolutely no marks(I havent removed the hook myself yet but have been told by friends it does remove easily and mark free).

I like that this pack comes with three hooks and 6 backs so that you can move the hooks if needed. The backs are able to be removed cleanly without messing up walls. I dislike that these hooks are supposed to hold up to 5lbs, but I do not feel like they are strong enough for 5 lbs.

i just moved into a new place and was really concerned about all the nail holes. Also, these walls are impossible to put a nail through! These Worked, no really they worked. Nothing, slamming doors, my high heel thunking around the house, the pictures will not fall of the wall.

I prefer purchasing packs of one type at a time specific to my need.

We have moved into a new flat where we are not allowed to use nails so I purchased a 3 or 4 pack of hooks. The metal clip. we used one for the washing machine lid, this works well considering it is stuck to metal.

We used another one on the wall to hang our very light clock – made of plastic and like others quite a few hours later we hear a crash. Our clock is in bits but thankfully able to be connected back together.

We didn’t follow the specs but after reading other reviews I am skeptical but will purchase another product to hang our photos. The frames are wooden and quite heavy so will see how that goes and follow the specs explicitly but where on earth do you purchase the alcohol product and do they sell it in half cup measures cos we wouldn’t use a whole bottle.

Seems a waste.

I’ve heard people rave about these but not my experience. I got two very large ones and the package said they each could hold up to 2 lbs. The picture I have doesn’t have a frame and is just canvas stretched on cheap wood.

Feels very light and although I don’t have a scale I don’t think it’s even 2 lbs. I followed the directions exactly, using the correct side and allowing the hook to adhere to the wall for over an hour.

I even spent time really pushing it into the sticky wall. Hours later I tug on them and they feel strong (yes I used both for this picture, just to be sure) I hung the picture and an hour or so later I hear a crash from the bathroom.

I started all over again with new sticky material, same thing happened. I don’t know if it’s the Arizona dry heat or defective product but I couldn’t get them to stay on the wall with a picture on them.

The packaging shows a wreath as an example of things that can be hung with these strips but having received these the packaging says indoor use only and to use in environments above 15 or so degrees.

None of the key pieces of info present on Ryman’s product description either. Unless I’m wrong not many people hang wreaths from their bedroom walls at Christmas rather on an external door so to include a image of a wreath and no mention of indoor use only incorrect suggests it can be outside.

Great job all round. First and last time I’ll use Ryman.

I have used various sizes of clear and white hooks around our new rental residence. I have learned and confirmed with 3M that a force perpendicular to the wall will release the hook from the tape (not the tape from the wall.

) I was hanging wire sculptures of low weight but the shape of the wire was trying to lift the hook from the wall. Using clear fishing line or reshaping the wire so the force was purely down into the hook seems to be working.

Also, I found that removing left behind tape requires same action as removing a hook – press the tape with one thumb and pull the tape down a foot or so stretching it out. Just pulling on the tape pulled bits of paint off.

This clear Command Hook works great! It’s exactly as expected. My walls are slightly textured and it still holds up very well. My only complaint is about the command strips. They are clear, but they have a slight yellow tinge to them which is pretty noticeable since the hook itself is clear.

If you’re hanging something on it that covers the hook then it’s no problem, but otherwise you will notice the strip because of its yellow tinge. The other thing I didn’t like was that the pull tab on the strip came attached to the packaging.

So when I pulled it out of the package some of the paper was attached to the pull tab of the strip. I suppose I could cut that part off, but that would make the tab shorter and more difficult to use in order to remove the strip off the wall later.

Two minor things but some things to keep in mind if you’re interested in these hooks. I really do like the hook, but I feel like there could be improvement on the strips and the packaging. All in all, I would still recommend this.

I bought these to hang stockings on painted brick. Two stockings stayed, the third didn’t hold the EMPTY stocking, for even a full day. They’re supposed to hold 5 lbs, so will try again in a different spot.

So, just beware, they don’t work so good on painted brick.

I’m not sure who the “Commander” is on these hooks but they are horrible and frustrating to say the least. I have been using them for the past 4 years at Christmas time to hold a garland around a mirror above the fireplace.

I did absolutely everything the directions said. After many attempts, I can sometimes get them to stick. I thought for sure this year I would have no problems. I shouldn’t have been surprised that they didn’t stick at all.

It seems as though they’re using some new glue on their strips that works worst than ever. They claim to work best on flat smooth surfaces. How much flatter and smoother can you get than a mirror?! I thought it was because I used windex to clean the mirror because it says not to use household cleaners.

So this year I used isopropyl rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely. I stuck the proper side of the adhesive strip to the hook and then removed the black liner “wall side” to stick to the mirror.

I held firmly for 30 seconds and waited an hour. I had been using the smaller hooks, which I thought were the reason I could not get the garland to stay up easily in previous years. So this year I bought the larger hooks that hold 1/2 pound each.

I used 16 hooks to hold up a small garland that weighs 31 oz. (I weighed it on my scale) which should in theory hold 8lbs. After gently hooking the garland in, while pressing the hook to the mirror so as to not put pressure or strain on it, the hooks fell off so easily that it angered me.

I spent all that time and effort to do everything correctly and these hooks fell off easier than 2-sided tape would have– literally. Ironically, they held well on my textured wall.

What can I say, I love command hooks! They are so easy to use and incredibly versatile. I purchased these for some indoor lights (seasonal) and it is so nice to not have to use nails. The only negative is once you place the hook, you can’t move it around multiple times as it weakens the adhesive; however, if you just a bit of time to measure/get a rough idea of what you want, you will have no problem.

The Command Hooks themselves are very nice, generally good quality, and are also reasonably priced. However, the frequency at which these are sold at Staples must be very low since the adhesive on the back was completely dried out and they wouldn’t even stick to my finger.

I would guess that this particular pack has been on the rack for several years. Under normal circumstances, I would have returned them except this time it was critical that I used them immediately, so I had to improvise with tape instead of using the included (normally extremely sticky) foam adhesive strips.

I will never again purchase this specific item from Staples. I have no qualms against Staples and nothing bad to say about 3M, I consider them both to be great companies. It was just an unfortunate situation.

My only suggestion to 3M would be to put an expiration date on the packaging.

I was shopping for the Small Wire hooks. Not Fonda ble. Purchased these. They were an excellent change! Sturdy but not heavy. Easy to put on wall and worked well for my hangings! Command styles are so adaptable and reasonably priced.

I have used these hooks for years to hang various items. I used to love them, they made moving much easier because we never had to fill in nail holes any more. I have always used the same hooks to hang the same items, I just tape the hooks to the item when we move so they don’t get misplaced.

This last move was to a modular home, and of the 9 items I had hung with these hooks, 6 of them have fallen off the walls and 5 of them have had the frames and glass broken in them. None of these weigh more than 5 pounds, and I have never had an issue with them before.

After the first two fell, I went and bought two new 6 packs of hooks and rehung all of the items. Since then as I said, 4 more have fallen and broken. I went through the house this morning and removed all the remaining items hung with these hooks.

DO NOT USE THESE HOOKS WITH FRAGILE ITEMS THEY WILL BE BROKEN! I will go back to using nails on the walls to hang my remaining items it is not worth having everything broken to avoid filling nail holes.

Recently the wife asked me to hang a Christmas wreath by drilling a hole in our siding and nail in a hook. Not wanting to drill my siding, I recalled the recent MC Hammer commercial for Command hooks.

I really wasn’t expecting much, as I just wanted the wreath project to go away without drilling my siding. I purchased these hooks and followed the simple instructions to the letter and hung the wreath.

I don’t think these particular hooks are even meant for outdoor use, but again, I was just looking to get it done. It has been three weeks now in the Buffalo, NY winter with freezing temperatures and gusting winds.

My wife has even taken one of the hooks (it was a value-pak you know) and hung a series of three connected wreaths to our front door, which is glass. All are still hanging. Unbelievable.

I used these in my classroom and the VERY light backpacks (no books only a lunch, a water bottle and a folder) kept breaking the hooks. The most frustrating part is the strip and bracket are fine but the hooks broke.

Sadly, the hook can not be replaced. Please fix this so replacement hooks are available. Our planet doesn’t need excess waste.

My only real complaint is that when you take them out, because of the way they are made, it leaves a MUCH bigger hole than advertised! No dab of toothpaste is going to fix that! I thought it was great to hold frames, just be extra-careful taking them out!.

You have to use a hammer to put a nail in, so what’s the difference? I was glad to removed the nails in the wall that kept slipping in and out – it worried me.

I also needed hooks that could hold sawtooth frames – these worked great and gripped the sawtooth fine. Because you grip the top hook, you don’t see it. The bottom hook is fine for wire frames. I even used it to hang framed plates.

I was glad to get rid of the nails in the wall and feel that the frames are better secured.

The lower hook is great for wired frames. I have used these all over my house and have not experienced any difficulties whatsoever. Highly recommend. Will definitely reorder.

I was originally told that they did not hold up well, but after reading the instructions and installing them myself, I found difficulty. The installation has multiple steps, and if you do not follow them, they will not hold their rated weight for long.

The difficulty is that after pressing them against the wall for 10 seconds, it is difficult to get the hook to go up and expose the base that you need to press for another 30 seconds. It is this latter step that provide the real adhesion to the wall.

When removing the hooks, you pull down on the tab, and even though it looks like it is going to break, it removes the adhesive without damaging the wall.

These hooks are garbage. I cannot believe how many chances I have given this company to make this right. They are the biggest waste of time and money ever. They never stay in place! Good luck when you come into the room and find everything on the floor!!!.

The product works great but removal is not as easy as advertised. It does leave some sticky white stuff on the wall. Also, when I received my 20 pack in the mail, it only had 17 hooks and 40!!! Stickers.

It was also opened and stapled shut. Clearly whoever mailed it out didn’t care.

I recently purchased a large pack of these command strip hooks to hang cricut 12×48 inch vinyl rolls on. Each one of the rolls weighs an average of 0. 28 pounds, witch I took the weight of 4 rolls to get an average.

These are rated to hold up to 0. 5 pounds, the rolls are 0. 22 pounds less than the specified weight. But yet they continue to fall off the wall. I cleaned the area, allowed it to dry, correctly placed the red side to the hook and black to the wall, pressing firmly, allowed it to set without anything on the hook while I placed the other hooks on the wall in a diagonal fashion spaced far enough apart to keep the rolls from adding pressure to the other hooks.

As well each roll when hung up is a different lenght as the one next to it so they will not over lap each other. But yet no luck, the hook sticks to the wall and as soon as I place one of the rolls on the hook off it poops from the wall.

These Command Strips are not at all very cheap to purchase and for them to not even hold something under the specified weight is upsetting. Unfortunately, our local Lowes will not allow me to return them to get my money back, since I have opened them and used them.

Back to the drawing board for a solution for a way to hold all the rolls of vinyl I have so they are not scattered all over the place.

I bought these in the beginning of December thinking they compared to the mini white hooks. They absolutely do not. The mini white hooks I put up no problem at all, they’re still holding my lights I out up 2 weeks prior to the clear ones I bought.

I bought the 18/24 pack and by the time I hung up the 2nd clip, the first one fell. I then went through and prepped the spots I was going to put them. That didn’t help either. In less then 2 weeks they have all fallen down and I learned my lesson not to buy the clear strips because they are NOT the same.

I bought these for a college dorm to hand stuff up, I ended up using only one of these as I had other command strips that I found to be more useful for the things I needed to hang. I used one and decided to take it down however it ripped paint off the wall.

I pulled it off just as I would any command product however unlike the others this one ripped the paint. As mentioned I used it in a dorm room meaning I’m going to be fined who knows how much because of this.

I wouldn’t recommend this specific command product and now I’m going to have to pay a minimum of 30 dollars.

I bought and installed 3 hooks as well as the satin metal bath caddy and installed all carefully following the installation instructions. The bath caddy fell in less than an hour after we started using it and we returned to the store.

The hooks lasted about 2 weeks before falling (all that was hanging from the hook was a bath poof!) I’ve used command strips for years, including bath ones. I’m not sure what changed but the recent ones have been very disappointing.

These should be a great thing. The last few packages I purchased didn’t have sticky command strips. The strips had lost its stick. It wasn’t an isolated incident sadly. But when you get some that work are sticky; it’s a great product.

We love these for almost hanging anything. We use them at Christmas to hang our stockings. My kids use them in their bedrooms to hang string lights. We use them in my daughters room to hang backpacks and purses they are very sturdy.
