19 Best Nibbler For Metal Roofing (2023 Updated)

I purchased the sheers drill attachment after seeing a video about the “new” dewalt sheer attachment. I read the reviews about the dewalt and several made comments about durability. “When the dewalt doesn’t hold up, buy Malco”.

So I checked out the reviews on them. I got to use them today for the first time. They are awesome. They ripped through the metal I was cutting like butter (not sure the gage but to put a crease in it, I need a hammer.

I can’t just fold it and smash it down). My advice would be to look for the upgraded model though. It comes with the drill clamp that makes it one handed. Without the drill clamp you have to hold the handle on the sheers also.

You can however buy a after market drill clamp that works, which is what I did. I would buy this product again since I already have a drill clamp.

Not really sure why there are bad reviews on this thing yes it has limitations. I use this about 3 times a week I work in HVAC it’s a must. I’ve noticed that if you run the drill in reverse. It works better on thicker metal.

Why don’t know. Just dose. Ignore the negative reviews they just are using the tool wrong find it’s sweet spot and go.

After reading some bad reviews, I almost didn’t buy this cutter. I can tell EVERYONE that it worked much better than I expected. I even had my 15 year old grandson work it. After a few minutes to figure it out, it works great.

Bought this for a complicated roof repair. I knew I would either have to continually go down and make custom cuts off the roof, or get a tool like this where I could cut on site. No hassle of sparks on the roof, and the ability to cut through ribs and angles is great.

Now that I have it, I pull it out anytime I’m doing metal work. Quick rough cut with this, then fine tune with shears. Saves a bunch of time, and no need to set your self up somewhere if you’re worried about sparks ruining finish work.

I bought this nibbler to cut R and U panel metal roofing and siding. I had been using regular snips which took a long time. Now I can cut panels to length in about 20 seconds and cut in my valleys just as quickly.

The tool is fast, cordless and makes accurate cuts. Saves a lot of time and frustration. The only reason for 4 stars is because with the “fin” on the back of the tool, it is hard to cut tight circles.

Cuts straight with no problem and is easy to control.

This nibbler cuts throught metal studs great. Saves time and is handy because its small and light weight. I highly recommend! Used this one several times already. Works great! We have 2 now for the jobs.

The hand nibbler doesn’t work as described, even thin steel is very difficult to cut and distortion of the surrounding sheet is worse than standard tin snips, only useful for holding open your garage door, useless for sheet metal work.

A good way of cutting thin sheet steel, I found the nibblers easier than the tin snips I normally use. Quite accurate if you take your time, you need to be patient as the cutting is slow, I know there are other ways of cutting sheet steel, but these nibblers are worth keeping in your tool kit.

I should have purchased the larger magnet. Just for the size alone. This is too small. Strength is fine. diameter ain’t. The picture ain’t from the magnet I bought. Mags a ring, doesn’t fill the underside at all.

& charge more too include a ring bolt and nut. Come on man !.

In general, these magnets are useful shop accessories. Can be used as light bases, or to mount accessory boxes on tools. But be careful before buying; the product in the store may not match the picture on the web site.

Specifically, the web site picture appears to show that the magnet has a small hole in the center, and suggests that a flat-head bolt must be used to mount the magnet and its metal shroud, with that bolt passing through both the hole in the magnet and a second hole in the shroud.

But the magnets that I found in the store (I have three, from two different stores) are like donuts with a large center hole, and a smaller hole in the surrounding metal shroud. In that case, a bolt with either a round or flat head can be used to mount the magnet, with the bolt head fitting entirely inside the larger hole in the magnet.

Cuts like it is machine cut and makes the job so much easier for cutting sheet metal. If you need to cut sheet metal you cannot beat a monodex cutter like this.

Works well on very thin sheet metal. Havent used it on anything thicker yet, but so far I’m impressed with it

If you use it to nibble small incremental bites from the sheet metal it will pinch the first knuckle on the index finger. It takes a little practice, but once mastered it moves along quite easily with precise control.

You can start out on a piece of sheet metal with a hole drilled in the middle of your work piece. It is very maneuverable and I will use it on numerous hot rod projects.

Experience level: Novice I am not a body fender guy. Mechanical expert. With that out of the way, I was skeptical because I’ve had some hit or miss HF air/battery/plug in tools. I’m working on the rusty rockers on my truck.

A cutting wheel works and gives more precise cuts. Takes too long. I looked into the Ingersoll Rand nibbler. It would take 2 days to receive, time I don’t have that kind of time. So off to HF. They had one in stock.

Make sure you have a chuck/fitting so you can connect with your air hose. Oil it please. At the air port and the cutting tip. It will last longer. I was able to cut the rocker out. 16 gauge so it is possible.

Wouldn’t do that for long periods though. The replacement rocker is 18-20 gauge easy to cut. Measure carefully. The blade takes up 1/4-5/16 cut. Oil it before you put it away. Don’t pay double, get one of these.

Got this nibbles today to cut some interior sheet metal to gain access to a fuel pump. It cuts so smooth and quickly. I thought about a shear, but since I had to make more curved cuts, I opted for this one.

I’m glad I did because it worked so good!! Smooth and duper easy to control. Get your hands on one today!!.

This product worked as it should and never let me down at all. The only thing I would change would be a swivle air fitting. GREAT PRODUCT

This magnet can be used for many things: picking up metal screws/bolts/nails/tacks in an enclosed area, attaching a hook or string for hanging tools, bracing other magnetic tool rails that are holding heavy tools.

These are the ones that are put on the end of a rod for picking up/finding small metal objects on the floor while standing up or in tight places. There’s a few different sizes to fit your special need.

Not expecting much from these but they did what I wanted them to do, are they light weight? well they are not heavy, Durable? I only used them for one job which was cutting 1mm sheet steel I have no idea how many sheets of steel I would need to cut to wear them out, if your going to be cutting sheet for a living maybe not but I have some very cheap tools that have lasted years and I can not see why these would be any different.

Well Designed? again not many ways you can design a set of sheet cutters, but from the old cutters I lost these are much better as my old ones did not have grips on the handles which make these more comfortable to use.

One thing, you might have to set up the side plates a bit better as mine where a bit out of line, just a case of adjusting them using the side screws.

A sturdy tool that does a good job cutting through quite heavy gauge metal. However, the locking mechanism that is supposed to keep the handles together when not in use is next to useless. I use a couple of turns of tying wire.

Expect to experience aching hands if more than 6 or seven inches of metal to cut through – but this would happen with any other similar cutter. I also used it to cut through corrugated PVC sheet with great effect – no splitting/snapping of the PVC.

These are perfect for my purposes which are occasional DIY projects. They have a powerful cutting action, but do tend to slide back as you start cutting, although they may grip better on harder metals.

They are ideal for home use as they are easily controllable giving accurate non-distorted cuts; there is some wastage but this is acceptable for me.

The nibbler was purchased to use on a metal building project. I am a home builder of 45years and this project was a first for me. I was reluctant to purchase it due to the fact that this is a expensive tool that I never needed before and did not see a demand for in the future.

I’ve alwayz wanted a nibbler, but never had enuf spare money wen I needed wun. Theyve alwayz been over 400$. At less than 300 and a big sheetmetal job to do (made stainless steel quarter panelz for my 72 New Yorker) I coudnt pass it up.

Especially sins its Makita, my favorite power tool company. The quality iz impecable. The performans beyond my expectationz! It zippes thru 18 ga. stainless steel like butter. It woud hav been next to impossible to do the job without it.

It went thru a total uv 315 inchez uv ss and another 100 uv rusty painted steel so far without even needing to sharpen the die or punch. It runz very smooth and quiete (besidez the actual noize uv cutting) and never even got warm!.

Love this tool. Perfect for my needs. Good for many applications. Good value. Great quality so far!

Easy to use. For my part I have still used it only to cut sheet steel tray 0. 63 mm thick. It is perfect for this: the free height under the head makes it possible to cut the waves without difficulties.

In terms of cutting capacity: for the sheet of 0. 63 mm, the machine does not force at all. I cut double thicknesses (so 1. 26 mm) and again RAS. The machine is given for a thickness of 2 mm. But as I do not like to force my tools I will not go that far.

In short, I recommend this tool to all people who have steel sheet steel cutting to do their roofing. And above all: always have a new punch in advance!.

5mm Its Makita so it will be fine and it did not even struggle. I have sympathy for my tools so did not force it through Cant remember where I put my tin snips lol. Don’t need them only for the odd few tight spots Great kit would of preferred battery cordless but too expensive for my needs even though its ore practical to have no lead Plus side is the 240 wont go flat just when you need it most.

Having previously cut larger pieces of sheet with tin snips, this unit makes the process almost painless by comparison. The cuts are also much neater, and these save one a great deal of time. They are highly recommended; however, it would be better if the “replacement cutter(s)” were available in the stores, rather than only being available through an online order.

I am starting to incorporate metal into my woodworking, as part of my artistic items. I bought the HF 170 Amp welder, all the accessories. I also bought the HF 6X4 metal cutting bandsaw and some accessories.

Everything looked good but I needed a way to cut sheet metal effectively. I use mostly 18 and 16 ga. I liked the smallness of the 18 ga. air units, but in the end bought this unit for the overall ruggedness.

Yes, I know you can buy a name brand unit for hundreds, but I might make 5-6 cuts a week. This is excellent for me. I had bought some dubious used 16 ga. from a scrap dealer. The price was just too good at $5.

00 for 3. 5′ X 6′ foot pieces. Until I tried to cut it. Turned out, it was somehow tempered, or hardened, and my little 14 gauge cutter was struggling hard to get through this stuff. I did finally get the three pieces I needed for my first sculpture, but then looking at my new metal rack, I went over and tried it on the regular hot rolled 18 ga.

I had bought at a reliable steel outlet. This unit went through it like butter. Fast, took the curves, and just made it through without even trying. So I give this five stars for my stupidity in not realizing that some sheet metal can be hardened, and it is not all the same.

Even though the scrap yard stuff was rusted and worn, and looked to the world like normal low grade HR steel, it was not. Not stainless, but boy, that stuff was tough!But this unit stood up to the task and I got it done, although from now on, I think that scrap yard stuff will get cut with speedy disks, not my shears!Overall, great unit and I like it a lot.

I bought the shears to try before spending $$$ on other reputable brands to install a commercial kitchen back splash. As other reviews indicate they’re heavy which is typically a sign of well made. They cut 4 panels like butter without any curl.

I guess the blade became dull after the 4 cuts because the remaining 4 panels were a PIA to cut & had some curl. The moderate curl was no big deal because it’s on the base & will be covered by high heat silicone.

My only compliant is the shears stopped “biting”, after only 16 ft. of cuts. I had to literally push the shears with about 70% of my weight before they would “bite”, & begin cutting. Even then, they would bind up every few inches & I’d have to push like crazy.

It took about 15 mins to cut the final 4 ft. Overall, the shears worked, not great, but “worked”. The shears may work flawlessly on aluminum, galvilum or thin corrugated. IMO, they are disposable if you’re planning to cut stainless.

Bit dissapointed with this, struggled to cut 0. 9mm sheet steer. Kept stopping/stalling. Made no difference if you want pushed firm or let it cut itself. Ended up using my old faithful tin snips. Maybe I just got a suspect one as I know of other as that are fine.

I bought this to cut out side panels in my van to fit windows, the first window hole was cut using a multi tool saw and took several hours, the opposite side was cut using the nibbler it took less than 15 minutes to a perfect job.

What a device should have got one years ago.

I purchased the shear refurbished. The first shear came and there was heavy gouging on the cutter housing as well as sloppy tolerances in the cutter head. I tried a first cut and the cause of the gouging was illuminated.

The cut material was curling out of the cutter like a corkscrew, digging into the housing at the point of the gouging. It took heavy pressure to drive the cut and there was no cut control. The shear just chewed its way through the steel.

I returned the shear for a replacement. Tyler Tool Customer service was polite and helpful, and put the replacement in the mail that day. When the new (refurbished) shear arrived two days later, I was disappointed to find that it had the exact same problem, and same symptom.

Back it went to Tyler, this time for a refund, not a replacement. I have used this tool before, purchased new from another retailer. It was fabulous, easy to use and control, powerful and precise. My guess is that there was a bad batch of cutter heads from the manufacturer (Milwaukee was purchased by TTI in Hong Kong a few years ago), and that they are getting rid of them as “refurbished”.

Tyler customer service was helpful at every step, and I will buy from them again, probably even a Milwaukee refurbished tool, but not this shear.

This is the second one I’ve purchased. I had the other one for 20 years and only had to replace it because I dropped it and broke the shear head. It can cut through 12 guage sheetmetal with ease. I would highly recommend it.

This is a sloppy copy of the electric Milwaukee sheet metal shear replacement blade set. During install, the holes do not align with the preset holes in the cutter head, the spacers/bushings for the pieces are too short and when you tighten the clamp screws it binds the assembly and stalls the drive motor or creates a lot of heat at the pivot points.

Since the material is hardened, there is no way outside of EDM’ing the holes in the correct location.

Good quality nibbler. Just supply your own batteries.

Cuts metal fast and easy. Cut just about any shape safely and efficiently.

The tool is a great concept, but the moving head blade side is so loose it doesn’t keep the gap setting. It even chipped the blade requiring me to buy a new set of blades. I’ll see if resetting it with new blades will work better before setting this tool aside.

Also it said the blades where tungsten carbide but they are hardened tool steel.

I bought these shears with very low expectations due to the price. I’ve always used the more expensive shears that are 4 times the price, and all I can say is wow. These preformed flawless and cut everything I needed.

When the time comes to replace them I will definitely be purchasing these again!.

First use was to cut up sheet metal from the outside of an old water heater. Worked great. Pros: quality tool. Cons: Blade adjustment takes care and time.
