I have a tiny propane fired generator too. This windplant is worthy of spending a hundred bucks for a 12 foot aluminum mast, and building a better tower, away from my trailer. This wind plant is OK, and perfect for learning about wind power.
For a real meaningful gain, I would want a bigger unit. I fell prey to overrating the wind here, which is what everyone does. Walmart. com sold me this thing on rollback, and shipped it free. So that was super.

I purchased this set recently for my 3 year old daughter who is absolutely fascinated with wind turbines at the moment and while it was as much for her and her viewing pleasure it was also for me as I am a huge Lego fan, and especially the technical range and in particular, building this knowing that it is fully working wind turbine.
It took me about 4. 5 hours to build and the final result was truly astounding, a real eye-catching show piece. The finished wind turbine towers over an area which is built up as a hill and at the base of the hill, there is gardens and house where the ‘engineers’ (mini figures) are posed.
There is an element of unstableness, when it comes positioning the set around but this due to the sheer height of the wind turbine, moving it around had to be done very very carefully. Like all Lego sets, there is a play value and for this set, I would certainly say relatively low (especially for a toddler!) due to the awkward access to the house and the height and instability of the wind turbine.
The service van is a nice addition and like everything in the set needs to be built brick by brick. This set has a lot of features and little details like the tools in the van, the little pressurised cannisters that are loaded onto the train, the hatch in the back of the base of the wind turnbine.
I particularly enjoyed the lighting at the front of the house, which really creates a nice ambience if you switch it on towards dusk. Everything that had to be built for the wind turbnine was very engaging technically and rewarding.
My daughter loves it and eventhough she doesn’t actually play with the minifugures or bricks, she is content just watching it, my only challenge is finding somewhere to put it. I really am happy with this set and would highly recommend this set.
Click and Collected from my local waitrose store. That’s a fantastic free service and is incredibly fast too! The LEGO set is a slight remake of an employee set produced several years ago. The market price for that was huge – and out of reach for most people.
So to see a standard retail set based on that set is great! It put that unachievable set back into the hands of mortals! It is a very impressive build with a good piece count. It even includes a re-coloured rock piece, now in green for this set.
The windmill is huge – the pictures really don’t do it justice! It contains a motor and lights – the motor powers the windmill to spin at a nice moderate speed. You wouldn’t want that thing spinning like a helicopter! The lights are for the little building at the base.
The build is a little advanced, but nothing an older child couldn’t tackle with a little patience. Once built, this set looks amazing on display. Especially when switched on! It adds movement and lights to a display, which can make a real difference to a collection.
I was expecting a better set, but was disappointed. the wind turbine looks good, but feels flimsy. the battery pack requires 6 AA batteries. I honestly thought this set was going to be better. it sure doesn’t fell like a 200$ value.

I would prefer that it be on the back or even the top. I can understand why its designed this way. If it were on the back, it could be damaged if it were pushed against a wall. Other than that, i would highly reccomend this generator for off grid living, camping, tailgating, etc.

I purchased five + tower kits. I needed units to work together, in parallel, using required bussing and grounding. Bus conductors are much, much larger than Ohms Law calculations, but I still used greatly oversize wire to keep from voiding warranty.
Bottom line: multiple units combat each other due to integrated voltage regulators. Complete waste of money. Total investment $ large but small compared to time wasted on phone with manufacturer listening to how it was my error.
After one full year, all was lost, towers sag unless guy wires constantly adjusted. If wind power is needed, consider one unit only,,,.
This windmill is currently charging a battery bank in my house. There are 4 batteries in the battery bank, 2 Marine Deep Cycle, and 2 Industrial. The windmill keeps these batteries charged very often, in combination with the solar panel I bought from here too.
It spins with ease and little effort, great design. The 42in. LCD Television was on for 10 straight hours before the batteries lost power. The windmill was spininng on and off in a light breeze. I can’t wait for winter to see how much it spins.
I would recommend this windmill to anyone and is a great combination with several solar panels.
This will not “run your appliances and electronics” unless your stove, toaster, micro wave, blender, coffee maker or computer use 12volt DC. The 27 amps. is DC amps. If it were 400 watts AC the amps would be 3.
3 amps AC. This wind generator is only good for DC voltages, not AC. Most all appliances use 120 volts AC, or 240 volts AC. Why spend $550. 00 for a battery charger. It would be cheaper to buy a new battery.

These gear motors are for sale everywhere, but nowhere will you find enough specs to know if it will work for your application. So I did some testing for stall torque. 3 Volts, 1. 8 Amps, 5. 7 inch-pounds 5v, 3A, 13.
3 in-lb 9v, 4. 6A, 20. 9 in-lb 9. 5v, 5. 1A, 24. 7 in-lb (the limits of my power supply) For those of you born recently, torque is the force you would get if you mounted a pulley on the shaft and wound a string around the pulley, allowing the motor to wind up the string and lift a weight at the end of the string.
A pulley with a 1-inch radius would lift less than 5. 7 pounds when powered by 3v. A 2-inch pulley would left 2. 85 pounds, etc. I wouldn’t run this motor with more than 5 volts unless the load was light – like if you used 9v and the load was such that he motor stalled, it would generate 40 watts of heating.
It’ll probably melt. One thing to be aware of – this gear motor has plenty of inertia. With no load, it will go another quarter turn before it stops when you remove power. It’ll be a lot less than that with a load but without braking it will not stop immediately when shut off.
I’m impressed with this little thing. It’s small and also quite powerful. I think it will work nicely in powering the slats in my blinds.
This is a strong, solid motor. It runs quietly. The build quality is good. About 3″ x 1″ x 1″ with a 0. 5″ long shaft. The gearing gives it quite a bit of torque – I can’t stop it from turning with my fingers.
Just reverse polarity from the battery to change the direction of the motor. I would definitely buy this model again.

The best set I have experienced to date. very entertaining to build, and very detailed. I could not stop thinking about how lego designs their models because of the complexity of the individual elements, like the wind pole base, gearbox etc.

Great price and great shipping time. The only problem was one of the two I received was a little wobbly. At first I wanted to exchange it and then I figured out how to correct it. With the unit fully installed (read the directions – there are good), rotate it slowly with your finger between the chimney and the spinning top.
“Carefully” as the metal edges are sharp especially where the metal is joined together at the seam – you will know what I mean as you feel the edge. The gap between the spinning top and the chimney will narrow and expand as the top spins, Just give a little tug outward when it narrows.
Take your time, pull/adjust little by little. You may have to spin the top many times to even-out the gap. but you will get there. Again be careful of the sharp edge, and take your time. My inside temp has dropped by 20 degrees one the sun has gone down.
I replaced Static roof vents with these – wish I went with the 14″(I used 12′) as I think they would probably catch the wind a little better because of their larger profile.
I should have done this awhile back, years ago. Last 10 years we kept putting in larger air conditions and it struggled to keep our brick house cool at all, When I was looking thru the ebay site it mention something in passing about keeping your house cooler without adding to our enormous electric bill.
I thought what could it hurt, I’ll give it a try. I see them on our local school buildings, they must work??? So after installing just one, let’s see if it helps. Summer is here and I’ll tell you what a great product, it kept the house cooler by seven degree’s and the light bill actually went down, Let’s not forget the air conditioner was now operating within normal use, actually cooling the house down during the afternoon and surprisingly having to shut it down at night.
I ‘am going to install one more, because these brick houses are hot in the summer and cold in the winter!.
Have an old 2 car detached garage with metal roof, it’s probably 60-70 years old. These get very hot in summer. I put 3 of these whirly vents in through the roof. The garage is about 600sf. 3 works noticeably better than 2 for my application.
I had to buy more than 3 because some arrived dented and bent, just returned the others. One spins great, second one spins fairly well, last one does not spin as well as others but it’s still functioning so I’ll leave it alone.
These really help pull out that hot air in the old garage. I installed mine using plastic roof cement for my sealant. I have went to garage during rain storms and no water came in. Good product but poor packaging leads to damages during shipping.

Shipping was a little slow with very little if any communication about the current stage of the shipping process until the delivery company called to set up a time to drop the unit off. It took 2 guys about 8-10 hours total to put this windmill together after following the directions very carefully.
We were able to lift the windmill into place from a laying position with 4 guys. We were not sure how well the aeration system would perform as we installed it on a day that there was a decent breeze with no immediate response from the fan blades.
However, the next day we had about the same breeze and the windmill works and looks great. Had a nice ring of bubbles coming up above where the sandstone is placed and we are excited to see the health return to our pond! Overall we are very satisfied with this product and it saved us a few thousand not having to run power to the pond and eliminated us purchasing an aeration system or fountain not to mention permits.

I had always heard that the Alpha sew replacement motors were pretty decent, and I guess it is, but I was disappointed in the quality of the extra pieces wasnâ€™t better. The cheap drive band didnâ€™t even fit the Singer 66 that the motor was intended for.
The foot pedal came apart when I dropped it, I put it back together. The plug feels pretty flimsy. Iâ€™ll try to stick with vintage parts in the future.

Bought this as my 2 yr old grandson is fascinated by windmills and wind turbines. I built it easily as per instructions. Used a plastic 2l soda/lemonade bottle as per instructions. I actually used sand grit to fill bottle rather than filling it with water (gives it a much heavier weight) In addition put bottle into a cheap garden bucket, placed bottle in middle and filled remaining sand grit around it.
This made it a sturdy foundation (and very cheap to do). I would suggest doing similar, if you are prone to strong weather winds, otherwise bottle would easily fall over unless supported (albeit weighted) Turbine works well – had gale force winds and it stood the test.
Light works well as turbine sails spin in the wind. Instructions stated to put lotion oil on swivel fixture, I used 3;in1 oil, works a treat. Can now place turbine anywhere in garden – children love it.
The beauty of it being what I have done, younger grandchildren/toddlers can see it and touch it with out fear of knocking it over. They can also see much to their eye level when light comes on when sails spin.
Would be useful if maker could make and addition base clip to secure Wind Turbine to a long broom handle or similar, this would add another versatility rather depending the need for a soda bottle top – onlya suggestion.

The instructions suggest the tower height should be 20 to 30 feet above any obstructions. In a treed environment, the tower would have to be very high. The steel tubing suggested is Schedule 40 1. 5″ pipe.
1. 5″ is the internal diameter (of schedule 40) and you need a minimum of 1. 875″ to fit the mount on the wind turbine. Be careful when setting this product up, the blades are very sharp and spin very fast, I would recommend a very calm day to do the installation or any work on the unit.
I purchased this Colman 400 W wind turbine in October 2016 in Port Alberni’s Canadian Tire store. It was on sale with $ 200 off. The wind turbine is installed on top of the mast on my oyster farm skiff.
It is charging my 2 marine batteries wired in parallel. My batteries are always toped up now, this days ,because it’s very windy out here. So far so good. The good think about Canadian Tire is that they have good returning guaranties , so what can go wrong ? Marry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Da unser Sohn sehr erfahren ist, was Lego zusammen bauen angeht, sollte dieses Set eigentlich kaum Schwierigkeiten bereiten. Dachten wir. Beim Zusammenbauen gab es immer mal wieder kleine Probleme, insbesondere bei den Schrauben.
Diese waren zum Teil einfach ein paar Millimeter zu kurz und die Muttern griffen zum Teil nicht mal eine halbe Umdrehung ins Gewinde. Wenn man dann ein kleines Stück weiter gedreht hat, drehte die Mutter durch.
Ein weiterer Kritikpunkt ist, dass in der Aufbauanleitung zum Kran ein Fehler ist. Mein Sohn hatte alles richtig zusammen gebaut, was vom Papa auch kontrolliert wurde. Es wurde mehrfach geschaut und nachgezählt, ob die Schrauben richtig gesetzt sind und ob die Platten die richtige Länge haben.
Dies war der Fall. Dennoch musste durch den Papa ein „Umbau“ vorgenommen werden, obwohl alles nach Aufbauanleitung gemacht wurde. Dies frustrierte meinen Sohn schon, da er ja keinen Fehler gemacht hatte.
Fazit: Tolles Spielzeug, was zum Bauen nach Anleitung oder für eigene “Bauwerke” nach eigener Kreativität hervorragend geeignet ist. Schade, dass man aus dem Set immer nur eins der Modelle bauen kann und nicht alle gleichzeitig.
Trotz der kleineren Mängel, die oben beschrieben wurden, ist dieses Set toll und es wird ständig etwas Neues konstruiert, wobei die Teile nicht mehr reichen für seine Bauwerke. Der Osterhase wird dann wohl nochmal nachlegen müssen und ein weiteres Set verstecken, damit der Bau-Spaß weiter und höher gehen kann.
Selbst für unsere 4-jährige Tochter ist dieses Spielzeug interessant und sie baut sich auch schon kleinere Dinge damit. Für uns war es die richtige Kaufentscheidung. Unser Sohn ist mittlerweile sehr sehr glücklich mit dem Spielzeug und das freut auch uns.
Dennoch gibt es einen Punkt Abzug für die fehlerhafte Bauanleitung (es befinden sich zwei Fehler in der Anleitung!) und die Griffigkeit mancher Schrauben.

OK, but struggled a bit to figure out all the parts and the best way to assemble. Instructions would be helpful. Tool to install the nuts is basically worthless. Also nuts that could be picked up and installed with a magnetic head would be helpful.
First time I set this up the blades flew off the turbine. All the nuts were missing and somewhere on the ground. Possibly not tightened enough, or I think the blades may have been installed in reverse, spinning the turbine the wrong direction and working the nuts loose.
