This lock has the very highest protection level you will find, and one of few locks NYC bike messengers will use (often paired with a second lock). The steel on here is thick, with layers of superb case hardening.

CWithout a doubt the most heavy duty u type bike lock I have ever seen! I live in Vancouver BC and bike theft is a big thing here. After having several nice bikes stolen over the years and using locks that advertise high security only to later fail I decided to not take a chance and get the legendary Kryptonite New York Lock Fahgettaboudit model and am super glad I did! The only drawback with this lock is it’s HEAVY weighing in at 4.

Bought this lock for a new ebike that would need to locked up, in direct line of sight, for 8-10 hours daily. The lock seems very secure, and I opted for the 5 year $4,000 insurance policy for only $25.

I can’t fault the lock or key design in anyway. The bracket to mount the lock to the bike frame is not perfect though. Actually it’s the main weak point of the package. The lock is SO heavy, the mounting bracket won’t stay in any one position for more than 3-5 miles of commuting.

I’ve tried it several different places on the bike, and the lock is crooked, hitting my leg or scratching the frame by the end of that ride. So I carry the lock in my backpack. Fine on an ebike, absolute deal breaker if I were riding a standard bicycle.

A good lock. Although I realised 90cm is not particularly long. I will get the 120cm next time. Fits very neatly to bike. Alarm function is a great design . Not particularly loud.

This lock is expensive but when used with my Kryptonite Krypto 4 foot chain lock delivers a great satisfaction of knowing that a thief would have to bring multiple tools to defeat both while at the same time being blasted with 100 db of alarm leave me confident that my ebike will not get stolen.

The only draw back is that the lock can only be used as a wheel lock and it is tricky to learn to use without setting off the alarm myself.

This bike lock is constructed very good. The mounting bracket is very dependable. The alarm is very delicate if moved. A warning beep will tell anybody moving bike. If the warning is not headed the bike will go full alarm.

I use this on my eBike when I have to make short stops about town. It is great because eBikes with integrated batteries typically have much thicker downtubes and that combined with the bigger frame in general make it impossible to use a standard U-Lock to secure an eBike to a typical bike rack that you’d find installed on the sidewalk in a city.

I went with the 110cm size instead of the 85cm one and am very glad I did, it gives that extra room needed to accommodate any less-than-ideal placement of your eBike relative to the structure you are securing it too.

Yes its heavier than the Granite 6000 but I carry it in my pannier and the weight isn’t noticeable.

It’s compact when installed and strong. Love the lock especially after rad techs installed it. At first I thought I should’ve gotten another style lock but now that I’ve used it I’m extremely glad to have bought this one.

I feel like it provides stronger protection and for shorter duration stops, I feel like thieves are more likely to find easier targets. It would take a lot more time, equipment, and preparation to break this lock.

That said, I do not leave my bike out overnight.

Probably about as heavy a lock as I’d be willing to carry around for a bicycle but it is nice and solid and not overly big. I keep my bike inside when not in use but the supplied cable feels sturdy enough I would feel ok leaving it locked outside for long periods.

Because the cable is pretty sold too it is a fair bit of extra weight but if you need that security that’s a good thing. A decent lock for a bicycle, looks good and while still significantly heavier than some other locks this one isn’t too much (without the cable) for casual cycling while still having that extra strength.

I placed this ONGUARD confidently on my new and very expensive Cannondale Scalple bicycle with a Lefty Fork, that I converted to be a high performance E-bike (Electric bicycle with a top speed of about 42 mph without pedal assistance).

This excellent lock is very secure and almost fool proof. I lock the bike with the “DT U-Lock” through the very expensive motorized rear rim and frame then run the “Cinch Loop (It is much longer than 4″, possibly 14″, maybe a typo)” cable thru the frame and front Lefty rim.

For a little added security I placed an audible alarm on the the U portion of the lock that rests on the almost $500. 00 lithium battery so if one moves the lock it will sound an ear piercing siren. It is Velcro-ed with industrial strength Velcro to the battery case so one must apply force to jar it and set off the alarm.

After all even the best locks keep the honest, honest and only deter the the dishonest. I also added a small hidden GPS tracking system to find the smart thieves and myhot bicycle (daily transportation).

Yet this protection system with the On Guard Bulldog at the center of it offers the best security that is available, It is actually more secure than Low-Jack, I just hope that someday soon the ON Guard Bulldog will come with all the features I have added to it.

It locks the frame and wheels and impervious to all but the most sophisticated attacks. The compact size and frame mount ensure ease of transportation. The lock, cable and keys are made to the highest standard and the main key even has a tiny light built in.

If you need to lock your bike up in a public area for a few hours this is a wonderful product, although I wouldn’t leave my bike outside in public overnight because thieves know all the tricks ad no lock is indestructible.

The size makes it difficult to break with a hammer and the keyway and keys are designed similar to a car, this extremely difficult to pick.

Tredz always great to deal with but this product is garbage, and not in my first experience of this with kryptonite unfortunately. Firstly the lock seems robust and secure enough, if you can lock it.

From very first opening the lock is sticky, it is hard to even fully get the key in and difficult to turn – this is alarming in a brand new product and indicative of a product that is highly likely to fail much sooner than it should.

When you do manage to lock the bike, great all good and secure, but you might be hanging around fiddling with this for an annoying amount of time every day when it should be instant. Then you come to unlock the bike, you just want to quickly turn and go.

Think again. Fumbling trying to get the lock to accept the key (brand new out the box), then at long last hurrah its open, you take the open lock off the bike and think at last you can just quickly close it attach to frame and off you go? No.

Think again. When you open the locked lock and then go to close it, it will not close, that’s right, the key will turn enough to uinlock the lock, but the lock mechanism will still be in enough position to prevent it reclosing to fasten to frame and leave, so you have to get the key again and start fiddling.

A frustrating lengthy process whiich should take seconds delays you for minutes. Every single time you use you bike. How can a company that professionally designs and produces locks not be capable of checking A.

The key can smoothly access the lock (it can’t) , B. the lock can freely turn and be easily opened and reclosed? (it can’t) 20 years ago I had a great kryptonite lock, no issues. 5 years ago I got another of these and had to return to another major bike store, where the manager explained it was ‘the design’.

I asked him to demonstrate how the lock should be used, he confidently attached the lock, then desperately fumbled for 5 minutes getting increasingly embarrassed while trying unsuccessfully to unlock again, I took my refund and used a generic store brand which functioned infinitely better, albeit less robust.

It’s a fine bikelock. I had a combo lock but it wasn’t great; this one is a good entry level bike if you care about your bike and don’t plan on leaving it anyway sketchy for an extended period of time.

The rotating key entryway is icredibily annoying, but I’m gonna chalk that up to my inexperience with this kind of lock. The clamp for the bike feels really cheap and slides around everywhere, but it hasn’t fallen off- tightening the screw can work to an extent.

The strange thing is that, unless I don’t understand how to use the clamp, you cannot clamp it to the underside of the top of the bike without interfering with the brakes. But I clamped it to the side of the bike and it works fine.

I grabbed this to lock up a bike on a roof rack. I don’t trust the integrated rack locks enough to run into a rest area bathroom. This chain is if I leave the car in a busy parking lot to run into a shop.

I picked a combo to make it easy enough for my wife or son to actually use (don’t have to go look for some other key, aside from the one for the rack). I’d still never leave a bike on the car overnight and trust the rack to still be attached in the morning.

At least with this, they will have to take off the entire rack and not just use wire cutters on the integrated cable.

I’ve relied on Kryptonite for decades and will continue to by only their products. I’ve passed on locks and cables to my children and they’ve continued to function and perform due to the robust design and unfailing components.

Will they stop a determined and well equipped thief? Yes, likely, but locks and cables are half the measure and good sense with preparation is the other. Oh, and I do like the velcro strap for helping to keep the coiled cable in check while storing it in transit.

I wish only that REI had more variety of their products and in particular this kind of cable with various lengths and diameters. I also wished that REI had more of the many different u-type locks of theirs.

I prefer to by from them but if I must, then I can find what I’m looking for elsewhere.

Does what I got it for perfectly. It’s small enough to slide between the saddle and the rails and secure my saddle when locking up. This thing clearly wouldn’t put up much resistance to a halfway well-equipped bike thief but it’s not the point anyway.

You should only consider securing smaller quick release accessories with it. I loop this under my saddle, through another sturdier loop cable (Kryptoflex 1007) that is locking up the front wheel and ultimately secure that one through a proper U-lock.

Bottom line: when used as a complement to your locking system, it’s perfectly appropriate to secure small parts. However, it shouldn’t be used to lock up a bike if security is a concern.

Bought a new bike from REI and bought this cable. Bike was used twice before someone cut the cable and stole the bike. Very disappointed and a waste of a lot of money. Bike was also locked in a locked bike room and had to fill out a police report.

This is a good quality bike chain. It’s a nice length, it’s a thick cable and it certainly appears strong yet not too heavy. I’m using it for my ebike in combination with a u-lock and a disc brake lock.

But this is a great lock by itself if you wanna leave your expensive bike outside shop for a few minutes as it is quick to set up and quick to release with key. I wouldn’t rely on any lock by itself for all day.

A good sturdy cable lock for motorbike etc. Built to help protect and deter thieves. Just bought a new Yamaha MT which needed a good strong cable and this does a good job – however, you can never be a 100% secure but this helps me feel a little more safe due to its tough cable and lock.

This cable is 3. 24×0. 79 (100cm x 20cm) which is fine for wrapping around the the handlebars and through the helmet – no one is going to get that off. I got a longer version to thread through the wheels etc for when I travel further afield.

The lock looks very sturdy and is of a good build. It is long enough (185 cm) to wrap around most objects when out and about, also to lock two bikes together. The combination mechanism works smoothly.

The chain is actually thicker than in the description on this website – on the box it says 10mm and it looks like this, while it says 8 mm on bikeinn. com. So this was a positive surprise! You get a great value for your money.

With bike theft so rampant, this is the top rated lock from Abus, add the tech like a motion alarm to bring attention to the guys messing with the bike, more chance to deter and hope passer by people would do something.

Having wireless phone unlock is AWESOME not separate key required, being able to share the app on family phones allows one to lock the other to unlock and no key! IMHO still needs a key in case the power systems fail or in my case the bluetooth fails.

The latter happened to me, and the alarm went off when I was trying to unlock my bike. Hope it’s a one-off power-battery unit issue but after killing the app, nothing, rebooting phone, and futzing with phone bluetooth on/off I was able to get the phone to re-pair with the lock.

If it had a key backup I would rate a 5star. This last experience was stressful, thought I was going to be stuck with the bike locked to this till I could get customer support and it was a weekend which was unlikely.

Using it at home before then, it worked perfectly every time, If I only locked this at home all the time, maybe would feel more comfortable with this, but the “range axiety” factor if the battery – bluetooth didn’t work has me 50/50.

With the status light LED was more visible in direct sunlight to know what it was doing too. The LED feedback being more intuitive. Since it has all the connectivity like a tile or a AirPod for tracking, would be a cool future feature to have social GPS updating of where the lock is and notifications if / when the lock is locked/on&secured/unlocked, with cloud based checking of status.

If you have the capability ABUS add it! Recommend if you know this is how you expect to use your lock. as the everyday replacement, I want all this, and add a key just in case that I keep in my car when the XXX (battery/bluetooth pairing, etc) fails.

Peace of mind that would make this 5 stars, but havent seen anything on market that is better so if all that makes sense for how you expect the lock to work this is great product.

Good lock with reasonable security of 15/15 but smartx Bluetooth feature not worth the added price. The app that goes with this is off by a mile or more as to its marking the location where its locked up.

Further if your phone is dead or not present good luck opening the lock. I’d prefer a physical key. While both can be lost at least the keyed version requires no batteries. Also the disk type cylinder used on the keyed version is extremely difficult to pick and requires special tooks and reasonably high skill to open without a key.

Bluetooth opens any number of attack vectors which are lesser known or talked about. Finally the 110 length is minimal and barely locks the frame and rear wheel. While this is the longest ABUS makes I wish they made one a bit longer.

Bottom line: Good lock, high security, but buy the XPlus 6500/110 (keyed version) for less money and better value. I wish REI would carry it.

This lock is substantial. It is has a security level 15 rating and comes with an alarm. Without the holder, it weighs 5 lb 1. 4 oz (2. 308kg). The holder weighs 5. 3 oz (150g). Also without the holder, the lock’s measurements when folded are 22cm top-bottom, 9.

5cm wide at the top (where the logo is), 6. 5cm wide across the folded bars, 5. 5cm front to back at the top, 3. 2cm front to back at the hinges. Each bar is 16cm long and 12. 7cm center-center at the hinge.

Pros: high security level, alarm, and longer than U-locks. Cons: heavy, awkward to use, there is no physical key to lock/unlock it, the bike holder/mount is not usable with bike tubes more than about 2.

5cm in diameter (due to the curvature of the holder where it meets the tube). Folding locks in general are awkward to use because they aren’t flexible like a chain or cable (folding locks move pretty much in only one plane).

This is because the bars are solid steel, which is one reason they are so difficult to cut. When locking up your bike, it’s a bit of a chore to get the lock’s bars threaded through all the openings (tire, frame, rack) and then closed (especially with the largish top where the electronics and locking mechanism reside).

Similarly unlocking, extracting it from around the bike, and folding the lock away. I suppose you might get used to it. The holder/mount doesn’t fit anywhere on my ebike. That means I have to carry it in a bag on the back rack and let it bounce around while I’m riding (remember it weighs 5+ lbs).

My ebike’s tubes are too big around or don’t have enough room to mount the holder and allow me to get the lock out of the holder. The holder that came with the lock does not allow for the use of bottle mount points; it attaches using a zip-tie-like arrangement around a tube (the back of the mount is rubber, so it might not slide down, but the two zip ties are manually tightened and secured by tightening two screws that press them against a metal plate in the holder).

As in another review, the description of the use of the lock is difficult to understand. For example the first thing you’re supposed to do after charging it is to fully push the locking bar into the lock.

They neglect to say that you need to get the other bars out of the way before you can do that. The app, like so many that are special purpose for a niche product is difficult to set up, but not too bad once working.

It locks and unlocks the lock, allows for software updates, and has a couple settings you can adjust (e. g. , set the app to automatically unlock your lock when you’re within Bluetooth range—otherwise you need to open the app and tap to unlock).

If you’ve allowed the app to use location services, it saves the location you last locked the lock. Lastly, most app features can only be used while it’s connected to the SmartX lock.

I looked at a lot of different options when it comes to locking our bikes on road trips. At the end of the day, almost all of them can be hacked or circumvented if they wanted to, I realize these are only deterrents.

Overall I am very happy with the quality and construction of this. You are definitely getting German quality with this, and you can tell. Even from the way the lock turns, and the finish of the paint.

I’ve owned this lock for 3 years, but it’s spent the majority of that time in my desk drawer. It’s seen maybe 1 year of light use. The result? It’s unusable. The key is cut on both sides, and goes in both ways, but it only works on one side.

Which one? I have no clue, just gotta fiddle with it and find out. When it was new, it worked ok as long as I was using the side that worked. Now, after some light use, even the good side of the key basically doesn’t work.

I have to fiddle with it, jiggle it, and apply just the right pressure to get it to unlock. The last time I used it, I freaked out because I thought I was going to need to end up cutting the lock off my own bike while stranded in the middle of nowhere at midnight.

The key just wouldn’t unlock it. Keep in mind that the key shows no wear at all–it’s not like I legitimately wore it out. I chose this lock because I thought it was a premium product. It’s not. It’s poorly made, doesn’t last, and is a finicky pain in the butt to use, even when new.

The included pouch worked great, but some other locks also include a reminder-lanyard thing. For my replacement lock, I’m going to be buying another brand. The only pro is that it is secure–so secure you’re lucky if you can get it open, even when using the included key!.

Overall I was pretty disappointed in this lock, even before my bike was lifted into a truck and stolen. Lock: My key fit in the lock both directions, but would only actually actuate the lock one direction – the other way the key would go in but not turn, so that was a hassle.

The key also felt a little rough or sticky going into the lock, feeling like a shoddily cut doorknob key. Otherwise, it’s nice that you don’t need the key to close it – you can just push the button. The pouch it came with is cheaply constructed.

On mine, the seam along one side came open within a month so the lock could pretty easily fall right out of the pouch. Also, you’re going to want to leave the lock unlocked in the pouch so that you don’t need the key to open it just to close it on your disc – however the lock doesn’t fit well into the pouch unless the bolt is closed.

I don’t blame this thing for my bike being stolen, but I do recall it disappointing me before it was. I guess I just expected better quality from a premium disc lock.

I was looking for a straight cable bike lock – something that doesn’t spring back into a coiled shape. The name of the product suggests it might be a straight cable – it isn’t. It’s a good lock, nicely made, reasonably light, but it doesn’t have a straight cable.

In case you’re wondering – for me a straight cable is so much better to use – they pass through wheels without catching spokes etc. Don’t know why they are so hard to buy. If I wanted a coiled lock I’d give it 5 stars.

The best lightweight lock for the price. Pair it with an Abus lock for added security in sketchy areas, or perfect for short stop-overs. I always use two locks on my bike, in addition Pinhead wheel/skewer locks.

I also use this for my scooter, and I hear it’s the perfect size for locking up a One-wheel. This is, from what I gather, a small niche business, and they have excellent customer service :-).

Having purchased two rather expensive electric bikes i decided we needed a bike lock to protect them from casual theft whilst parked up. This is a well thought out and strong looking and secure lock.

The cable is self coiling when you fit it onto the mount which has a good design where you insert the cable lock and twist it to lock. Removal requires pushing a safety catch and turning which ensures the lock cannot fall off whilst riding the bike.

The cable is plastic coated and 12mm in diameter and will deter all but the most determined thieves equiped with power tools. It is that good i would consider taking it with me on my motorcycles. It comes with several keys(five i believe) It has enough cable length to either attach one bike to a large diameter object or even two bikes together which is why i chose this particular model.

I can highly recommend this lock for casual use and unless you have to leave your bikes parked outside all the time where a more robust system may be required. Great product.

Can’t complain. Reviews read well compared to other products on the market. Price for quality (compared to, eg, Kmart for the same price) this is way more sturdier. A key each for us in the family (tick!) and it’s coated well so it doesn’t scratch the bike.

Length is good.

When you buy a bicycle lock you need to make a decision: 1) Easier and simpler to use; OR 2) Extreme security (although a determined individual can get through anything) This specific sized product, I find is right in the middle.

My recommendation would be to get this product but get the next size down (12mm?) which would make it far easier to unwrap and place around a pole, etc. If you valued extreme security I would go to a larger size than this.

As for OnGuard’s mechanism it works fine for me. So yes I would recommend OnGuard Doberman Coil, but I would recommend the size below 15mm (for ease-of-use) or the size above (for extreme security). Cheers.

I was talked into this lock when I purchased two scooters as being the best heavy duty lock. Why not, when you invest 5k in scooters. Went to Maine this weekend and used the Mastiff lock to secure 2 bicycles around the tree outside while sleeping overnight in hotel.

Came out next day to leave hotel to head home and the lock malfunctioned. The key kept spinning. With no tools and a Sunday, I waited 4 hours for help from a maintenance worker. He was able to find the weak spot and cut this thing off with hacksaw in 3 mins.

The bolt that slides into the lock was easily cut after he destroyed the plastic housing. Called customer service and Nick Cruz said sent pictures. I did, then he asked for some number on the lock which I could not find….

told him that and never responded again. Bad experience and customer service. Look at something else.

This bike lock is one I’d trust to protect my bike in the most crime-ridden parts of my town–for at least a few minutes, anyway. In normal places, where bike thefts do occur even though you feel safe walking around, this lock will defeat virtually all thieves.

Be sure to run the chain through your rear wheel* and the around the seat tube if your bike has one and then chain it to an immovable and cut-proof object. A lot of professional thieves use electric cut-off saws and if they can easily defeat a cable lock or a U-lock, they can certainly cut through a metal sign post if your bike is worth having.

*Unfortunately there isn’t enough chain length to go through the front wheel also, so you will have to take it off (if it has a quick-release skewer) and put it along side the rear wheel where you can run the chain through both your rear and front wheel and around the frame member (seat tube, or.

). This chain is heavy and bulky. There’s no getting around it. You have to be prepared to compromise the increased security with the fact you will be carrying around a heavy chain while your riding.

If you’re used to flying up hills on your lightweight road bike, those days will be over. You’ll still be able to climb hills, but you’ll do so like you suddenly aged 10 years. I am stillgiving it 5 stars, despite its weight and bulk.

If the Mastiff chain lock was lighter and still as effective, it would have to be made out of unobtainium and therefore cost more than your whole bike–even if you have a bike with a frame made out of unobtainium.

I purchased the long length chain for use with my motorbike. Ideal size to go through rear wheel and over seat. Chain looks and feels heavyweight and good quality, with a sleeve over to protect paint / bodywork.

Only criticism of the sleeve is the velcro tab at each end to keep it in place doesnt really do the job – keeps undoing, but no big deal as it’s not going to go anywhere. The chunky small D lock won’t allow much space for any prising tools with the chain locked through.

Comes with plenty (5) of quality lock keys – the main one with a built in light – great for the dark nights / mornings now. The lock opens and closes easily. It is not spring loaded, so you need to positively lock the bar back on again, but cannot remove your key without doing so in any case.

Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is I dont know if it will withstand an attack. Hope not to be tested either, but would highly recommend, and good value too. A small keeper bag would be a nice addition to the kit.

Has a holder behind the saddle, which is convenient. Uses a key & the keyhole is protected against the weather. 3, 4 or 5 number locks are crackable by anybody with nimble fingers & enough time. This is difficult to cut through.

My only problem is that I had this on a Trek 5500 (the same bike Druggy Armstrong rode for US Postal in the Tour De France. Make sure you wind it through the frame and both tires. So I locked up my bike to get a cup of coffee 50 miles from home, came out, & found my well-worn Brooks leather saddle had been stolen.

Had to pedal home standing in the pedals ;). Now, I have a separate little welded metal loop that goes through the saddle rails & this goes through it as well. I guess next time, they’ll steal my handlebars.

but regarding the lock, it works great. recommend it.

Good quality lock. The lock mechanism works well and very easy to use. The length is also an advantage. For the price, it is a great lock. However, I wont use it to lock expensive bicycles in high risk areas.

Anyway, it was not my goal when I purchased this lock.

Good bike lock for the price also for it’s length. I wouldn’t recommend using this lock for an expensive bicycle. This does a pretty good job, but probably not the safest when it comes to counter to thieves.
