20 Best Linen Shirts For Women (2023 Updated)

I am 5’7” 140lbs. Normally I wear a Medium, or size 10 in shirts. Based on reviews saying the shirt runs larger, I ordered both a small & medium, as sometimes the shoulders are too small for me in a small.

The small was plenty roomy overall and the shoulders were good. I agree with other reviewers that the fabric is a bit thin. Also like other Orvis tops, the sweep around bottom could have been less material.

Overall I like it.

I fall between a six and a eight, I ordered a size small and it fits to a T. I’ve got a little belly, and even that doesn’t show. It hangs beautiful and makes you look very thin. I can’t say enough about the quality of the linen, it’s not too thin even if you order the white.

I wear a Beige colored bra and you cannot see it underneath. I ordered another one in the color pink. Very soft pastel yummy pink. Loved him so much I tried to order another blue one but it’s on backorder.

You won’t be disappointed.

Perfect shirt for warm summer temps. Casual, yet classy. dress up or down. A little tight in the armpits/shoulders, but I find that to be the case for all Orvis tops, shirts & jackets, that I purchase.

I purchased White; adequate coverage, not too shear. I wish there were more ‘warm’ color tones available, rather than the cool tones. I purchased an XS. I am 5’1″, 110 lbs, lean muscular build.

This is the 2nd top that I purchased. The 1st was well made and exactly as described, but too large. I gave my measurements and it was made to specifications. However, the style of the garment caused it to fit larger than expected.

So, I reordered it 1 size down. In other words, although my bust measured 41″, I requested it be made the second time around with a 39-inch bust”. And voila, it fit perfectly. I had no problem selling the 1st one to a friend because everyone just loved it.

Great communication with seller. High quality linen. Doesn’t even wrinkle much! If you order the red, it is a dark, rich red. The mustard color is also excellent.

Love the material and look in the photos, but something is off with this fit. I am 5’4 150 lbs curvy, and have average to bigger shoulders. I wear size 10-12 in other jcrew slim fit/tailored button ups and expected this one to be a tad looser almost tunic like and got a 12 initially.

There is so much extra material in the shoulders, sleeves and back it just looks odd. I exchanged the 12 for 10 and it is the same. Really tight in hips and billowing in shoulders and back. The shoulder seam goes down to my upper arm, sleeves go to end of hands, the upper back/chest area is huge.

It looks like I’m wearing shoulder pads. I almost wonder if something happened in manufacturing and they used a mens pattern on the three I bought. I am washing one to see if it shrinks up, but otherwise disappointed at this weird cut especially for the price point.

I see others have the same issue while some seem to fit correctly. Will return and do not recommend.

I’m 5’2”, 102 lbs and ordered a size 2. The material and blue color are lovely, and the fit good except for one area. I noticed it because another reviewer pointed it out, so it’s not awful and glaring but there is too much material across the back.

It’s below the horizontal seam below the collar, down about 6” or 8”, all across the back from the vertical sleeve seams. It makes a bubble of too much material and doesn’t lie flat. Even if you had a very large chest it would still do that as it’s just a back issue.

I looked at all my other blouses and they all lie flat, even oversized shirts. It doesn’t bother me enough to return it but if I tried it on in the store rather than ordering online I’m not sure I would buy it.

I’ve been trying to find the perfect, classic, slim fit linen shirt for a while. Uniqlo have stopped making theirs and other companies are way too long (Everlane), poor quality or super baggy. This J-Crew linen shirt is truly worth the money – beautifully made, tailored enough to be slim fit and flattering, attractive details.

I’ve bought 2 already (white and blue) and back for more already to stock up! True to size, doesn’t gape on chest. I bought Size 10 (5′ 5. 5″, athletic build, curvy – 38, 32, 40 and perfect on me!.

This is wonderful! Its lightweight, but has a smoother texture which makes it great for summer but not as casual as a gauze or fully linen shirt. Its a rayon linen blend, so it has a fluid drape without sticking to you.

It is super soft and comfortable, and really has a lot of flexibility to dress up or down. Can easily be worn with slacks to a formal office, and just as easily draped over a swimsuit at the beach. Fantastic versitility!! Wish I found this before they were out of stock in so many colors in my size.

Oversized fit and I love it!!.

I live in coastal SC, where it gets unbelievably humid (and hot). Linen is a go-to. This shirt is quality linen. I bought shirt to go over tank tops, to knot at waist w/ skirts, etc. Perfect. I don’t find it anymore see-through then very expensive, designer linen.

I can wear it alone with a flesh colored bra. Ordered in white and it seems the same, to me, in that a flesh colored bra will suffice beneath. Ordering yellow stripe now and will order black and green as soon as they are in stock.

If you wear linen, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. For the price, you can’t go wrong.

In Target, this looked like a great wardrobe staple. I planned to wear it to work with plain black jeans and even hung it up on a hanger and steamed it the night before which I literally never have time for anyways.

After driving into work, the shirt was insanely wrinkly and made the outfit go from 10/10 to 2/10. I also struggled with what to wear underneath the shirt because it is so see through. Super disappointed, don’t waste your money on it.

My favorite aspect about this shirt is the fabric — it is a stretchy linen and it feels amazing on the skin and it looks so good! I also love the pockets in the front and the options of wearing the sleeves wide and then tapered with the buttons on the cuffs.

I loved wearing this shirt for the Outfit Repeater Challenge because it was easy to wear it alone, layer it, tuck it in, and etc in so many ways. I highly recommend this as this will become a staple piece in your wardrobe for sure.

I would agree with the other reviews that this is more like a shacket than a shirt, but it is thin, breathable, and not crunchy or wrinkly. Its perfect for travel, especially in more beachy locations.

Great cover-up for a bathing suit, and the pockets are pretty deep. I wish it didn’t have the collar and was longer like a cardigan, especially in the sleeves. Otherwise, a great piece for my wardrobe!.

I own many pieces from Aday. They are my go to piece when traveling and here inn NYC. But this new flax shirt is the best yet! I love it. It is chic and comfortabke and versatile and feels wonderful on.

This shirt is well-made overall, although after it was washed there was some gathering of stitches/shrinkage in one armhole which makes me think the fabric wasn’t pre-washed before it was sewn. Nice linen.

I like the length and fit. I usually wear a size 2-4 in tops from Everlane and I bought a size 4. It fits well and just a little oversized. Love the length and looks good out of with a half-tuck. The only big problem for me is how easily it wrinkles.

I will have to get used to those if I want to wear linen I guess, I normally hate them. I sat down and bent over to put on my shoes and when I stood up the front was completely wrinkled. Oh well, I wore it with a jacket so its wasn’t overly noticeable.

The quality of the linen fabric seems good. It’s not heavy weight, but not thin either. Like all of the Everlane products I’ve ordered in the past two years, it had a lot of loose threads and some uneven stitching.

Quality control is not as good as it used to be. I wish it were a bit longer overall. Before ordering I compared the garment measurements online with other shirts I own. When the shirt arrived it seemed much different than I expected and the measurements listed online do not match up.

It’s a forgiving enough style that it can be worn true to size or oversized.

I’m quite pleased with the linen shirt. The linen is beefy, so it’s definitely a shirt I can wear without having to layer anything under it–not what I want in hot weather! The collar keeps its shape.

Yet for all its beefiness, the linen is still cool and comfortable. I wear it with a circle skirt I found on Etsy and never had anything to go with. This is not beach coverup linen, it’s definitely a shirt you can wear to an under-air conditioned office or lunch.

In the fall I hope to layer it under loose sweaters.

Excellent quality, vivid colors, nice fabric, nice pattern, does not wrinkle as most linen products but way too big. I measyred myself and used the size guide, based on the measurements, ordered size 8 and also size 6 just in case.

Even size 6 is very big. It fits good in shoulders but the rest is huge. It would fit good for expecting Mom. Have to return.

I bought the white one. Beautiful long cuffs that still roll really nice. Exactly the linen shirt I was looking for to use tucked in, as a beach cover up, or worn tied in front. I really like the breeziness of the oversized nature of the shirt, perfect for staying cool in summer.

I am usually a L top and XL in pants and the Large fit great, plenty of room for hips without being too big on top. I also tried the XL but it was way too huge everywhere, but was a bit longer down the leg as a beach cover up.

I kept the Large.

This shirt is a keeper. Nice heavy weight linen and nice and roomy fit. I usually buy a Size L when I want an oversized fit, but read other reviews and purchased a size M. It is perfect. Nice long length and plenty of room in the chest and hips.

The shirt exceeded my expectations. The linen fabric is good quality, not a lightweight or gauze type. It feels like I am wearing a boyfriend’s shirt. The shirt was oversized and had a length below my butt.

Over the years I’ve bought several LL Bean’s linen shirts with different sleeve and body lengths, and all of them were well-made and in a timeless classic style. Linen is durable, so these shirts last.

The best part is that linen is a SKIN-FRIENDLY fabric. No Lycra, no Spandex, and no irritating strange chemicals claimed to protect the wearer from sun, insects, garment wrinkles, et cetera. You can just spritz a linen shirt with plain water to remove creases or deep wrinkles.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to buy a pair of jeans that does not contain Spandex—a synthetic material sourced from polyurethane—that is a skin-irritant. Let’s please have LL Bean return to well-made clothes in the classic LL Bean style made of 100% cotton, or linen, or Tencel, or Lyocell, or Modal—all of which are plant-based SKIN-FRIENDLY fabrics.

Get rid of the Spandex please!.

I am a 38B size 10 with a mature women’s athletic build. Meaning I have strong shapely shoulders but the unavoidable thick waste. I’m Usually an LL Bean Medium. However the size medium in this shirt was slightly too large in the shoulders.

I tried the Medium Petite as well as the small and opted for the small. Perfect tailored looking fit. But in no way clingy or small. I washed the blouse in cold water, gave it a good snap and hung it on a padded hanger to dry.

There was no change in the size with this washing/drying method. I would highly recommend this blouse as a wardrobe staple. The blue is fantastic with white denim.

Nice shirt, which I bought for a light cover against air conditioning or cooler evening temperatures. However, the tunic length was just awful; luckily I am a decent seamstress, so cut off almost three inches and hemmed it up straight across rather than having the ugly curved tails.

I have now had to accept that as a short plus size, I can’t buy LLBean tops, as they are all made for someone tall. I will look for those catalog shops that have “petite plus” or “short plus” styles (an oxymoron, but so it is).

The industry standard seems to be that heavy people are all tall — the sleeves are also too long, I had to fold the cuffs back. A great disappointment but I’m tired of doing alterations.

I ordered the small based on a previous linen shirt purchase and the review the shirt was more fitted. The small was way to big for me (I am a 4 to 6). However I returned to a local store and they found the extra small in both colors.

The store honored the friends and family discount and the items were shipped to me quickly. I have worn both colors (bikini pink and the light grass green). Both colors are very pretty. The quality is good and the service in the local store was exceptional.

I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this shirt. If you are unsure of the size, order two sizes and return one.

This is a review for the linen coastalina shirt. It fits fairly true to size. The length is neither too long nor too short so it looks nice with any pant, jeans, or capris. The navy is NOT a dark navy, but lovely nonetheless.

The detail on the interior of the cuffs is quite lovely and looks nice if you turn up the cuff. The linen is a traditional Tommy Bahama weight; it’s not thin, not scratchy, feels nice against the skin, and irons well.

The top button perhaps could be placed a little higher; the v-neck is a wee bit low. I would suggest NOT making this shirt any slimmer because everyone is ultra thin. I would purchase this again; it’s a classic and will never go out of style.

I have one in white. Please, please, consider making this in chocolate brown (and true red). Chocolate brown is a classic colour. This is a pricey purchase, but worth it.

I am 5’3” and 110 lbs. I ordered the XS and it fits perfect. I love the traditional cut and fit to this coastline linen shirt. I ordered the black and it’s solid black, not faded. I like it a lot. TB, please continue to make this classic & traditional (not trendy) style cut (arms, body, length, steam-lined) of this shirt.

When it comes to wardrobe choices, I feel like Goldilocks. I find fall and spring the most challenging because Weather can be too cold for short sleeves of too Hot for sweaters. Once fall. comes, the same thing happens.

This shirt helps me get it “just right. ” I can dress appropriately for the season and stay comfortable. Dress up or down, cool or got, this is a “just right” mainstay for my closet!.

Wonderful light shirt that still has enough structure to hold its shape and be opaque. Should have sized down, but still great for more casual/ lazy days. Length is perfect in this size, however, so unsure if the length would have been as favorable in the smaller size.

The happy looking, Island Hibiscus color of this chic shirt by Ralph Lauren, is bright, vibrant, and eye catching. The stylish shirt with it’s cuffed short dolman sleeves, fits beautifully. The back of the garment has a shirt pleat which gives the top an ease of movement that one needs and wants.

The front of the shirt has a button down closure, and an extra button is included. This is a very versatile top that is perfect for spring and summer, and can be worn year round. I have found the linen fabric of the garment to be breathable, soft and airy.

Additionally, the cooling properties of the linen helps to keep me dry during warmer weather. The shirt is machine washable. Moreover, I feel that the material needs to be pressed before it’s worn, in order for the top to look top notch.

Crisp linen, classic styling and a great fit, I’m wearing this shirt everywhere this spring and summer. Well made with no weird fabric directions, nice, fine, straight stitching and good quality bottoms, there was not a single loose thread.

The fit and styling are great. It has darts!!!!! I am plus size and hate the smushed boobage and button gaping I get from shirts without darts. Not with this one, the darts help the fit conform to my body and the button front closes without gaping or need to secret pin it closed.

I love the cuffed short sleeves, they are just longer than sleeveless, covering the shoulders and leaving most of the upper arm bare which helps proportions. The other great thing is the shirt is long enough to wear untucked and so is very slimming.

The linen is great quality, crisp and cool, a summertime classic and remains remarkably unwrinkled for linen. I am styling mine with a textured pair on slim pants in a neutral color right now.

I bought a linen-blend camp shirt from madewell last year (the undyed color). I really liked last year’s camp shirt so I decided to purchase this one. The fabric for this year’s shirt feels thicker and sturdier which I very much enjoy.

On the other hand, it runs large (purchased xxl last year and purchased xl this year and this year’s shirt feels larger. ) Additionally, it has dropped shoulders unlike last year’s which had normal? shoulders.

It also has some pleates in the back which I thought was a nice touch. Overall, I like the shirt, but I wish they skipped the dropped shoulders.

I really like how this shirt breathes, which makes it a perfect summer shirt. It dresses up with the right skirt or works great as a bikini top cover-up. It does run big, so I sized down so the hem sits on my hip.

I noticed a few loose threads upon receiving the shirt, but I haven’t noticed anything coming undone while wearing it.

This is almost a heavy-duty linen. It feels very structured and lacks a little bit of the softness you might be expecting. However, it is a great basic to have for hot summer days and looks great with a light tee put underneath.

It goes with a lot and it feels like it can put up with a lot too.

This type of shirt was very much the thing to wear on the Gold Coast in Australia when I visited in the Spring. I bought one from John Lewis on my return and loved it so much I ordered another. It washes like a dream, fits beautifully, is so cool to wear and is one of the favourites in my wardrobe.

This shirt. This is THE white shirt. The drape and silky hand of the linen! The way it says “class” the second you put it on. First, iron the packing creases out. Then try it on. You can’t tell enough about it on your body otherwise.

Of course that’s just my opinion, but for me there was a big difference in how much I loved it between trying it on for size (34-25-35, size XS is perfect) and seeing how it REALLY looks. It’s “blousy”, but the way the linen hangs keeps it from seeming like you’re wearing an unflattering balloon of a shirt.

Oh and the button placement! These people get it. No gaps, no cleavage showing, just 100% class. Totally worth the price.

The fabric is wonderful and obviously of high quality. The fit is quite boxy. I have a small waist and wide hips, so I prefer a little shape to my tops, but it feels so good to wear I’m keeping it as a cover up, a shirt when wearing more fitted bottoms and a shirt that can be tied at the waist.

It kind of an all-arounder. I will consider getting the Frank in the future.

This shirt in the Eileen is my happy place. This featherweight feels sexy on my skin. It is so soft and light, and feels like a dream! I have it in black and watermelon. The navy blue is in the mail on its way.

This is a beautiful, featherweight shirt. It looks to be well constructed, with buttons that work smoothly, and I love the pale pink color. My problem was finding a right size. I’m usually between a 4 and 6 in tops, but because my waist is broad for my height (5’1”, 113 lbs), I ordered both size 6 and 8.

Even though the copy says the shirt is easy, both were just gigantic on me, so I sent them back and tried 4 and 2. The 4 fits well enough, but the shoulder seams are too wide and sleeve cuffs hang below my hands.

Easy enough to roll up. The size 2 fits better in both shoulders and sleeves, but if it shrinks it will be an expensive mistake. The customer service person I spoke to, when I asked about shrinkage, didn’t have much more information that the washing care tag- cold water wash/tumble dry low), but did add that directions said to order up one size.

Really? I love the shirt so much will I wash and dry the size 2 and report back. I wish Garnet Hill did Petites.

I bought two of these shirts. The fabric is thin and I would have to wear a tank under the lighter-colored shirt. There is not quite enough room in the shoulders (pulls at the elbows as you move your arms) but the sleeves hang midway down my hands.

I’m tired of thin fabrics and this shirt, in particular, is also just not well proportioned. I tend to be a small to medium so this should have been a little roomy if anything. Last (and laundering might make a difference on this) the fabric is rough.

I wish they would have worked for me but they are going back.

This has been one of my favorite of many Garnet Hill purchases. Classic design, high-quality linen, ironing not really needed unless you prefer a more smooth finished look (I do). Nice matching buttons.

I like my shirts a bit loose for comfort and do size up in this style. My color was called Himalayan Pink, a soft greyed-out muted shade — at first I was disappointed with that, but have come to love it and the shirt has become a wonderful addition to my wardrobe, as appropriate in winter as in summer.

Please keep making these excellent pieces, and add some clear pastels!.

I love this top, I wear it to work under a cable knit sweater currently which gives a nice collar accent and if it gets hot I can remove the sweater as temps swing 40 degrees daily. It does wrinkle but very breathable.
