Caveat – we love bentgo stuff! I upgraded my 7 year old from the bentgo kids lunchbox (thick plastic with separate exterior part). This one is lighter and can easily bigger items such as full sandwich along with other “sides” (fruit, granola bars, cheese stick).
I like that the separator thing can slide to accommodate different sized things. I do wish the set included two of these separators to divide more stuff. I haven’t checked to see if these can be bought separately.
The black paint on the stainless steel has started to scratch off but that doesn’t bother us (or her). The lid and separator are recommended to hand wash which is annoying since I hate washing by hand if it fits in the dishwasher.
We’ve put these on the top rack so hopefully it doesn’t impact the suctioning. Time will tell!.
First off, all the bad reviews saying it’s hard to open are from people that can’t read directions. There’s a little rubber pop tap at the top that releases any suction and once that’s pulled up it can be opened very easily.
When the tab is pressed down, the top is locked on. That being said, this bento box is a life saver. I no longer have to use plastic sandwich bags and the sandwiches and snacks I put in stay fresh until they’re eaten.
It’s also very easy to clean and I plan on buying more soon.
I always take a lunch to work or my kids to school. The Bentgo Stainless Steel Lunch box is awesome. It is very convenient to take and carry around. It has a leak proof silicone seal design which is great, I don’t want my food spilling anywhere.
You can customize the compartments and has a release valve to remove the lid. It is easy to clean and store away, also dishwasher safe so easy to clean and ready for the next day to take to work. I am very happy with my lunch box and that my food stays warm.

I wrote a review about this 4 years ago. We are still using the same lunch box and I’ve purchased 3 more as my 4 kids started school. I love love love it. As a teacher, I appreciate the ease of it. Children know what to eat when, and it promotes healthier eating since you can’t stuff it with wrapped goodies.
It’s the easiest lunch box doesn’t take up too much space (please don’t put it in another lunch box; I don’t know why people do that). They are easier to open now as my first review my son had a hard time closing the box.
But the new version is very easy. Cleaning is a breeze. I hand wash it always. The washing machine ruins things and these are pricey. Some may argue for the price it should be dishwasher dryer safe, but as with everything nothings made to last so I take the time to handle with care.
With 4 boys I’d rather pay a higher price for higher quality knowing they can use their hand me downs and it’s still in good condition. These are worth the price and the option to switch up hot and cold foods sold me too.
We currently own two of these lunch box already, one V1 and one V2. This is my 3rd purchase for this lunch box as I wanted to replace one of the v1 for the V2. Compared to the V1 it has improved a lot.
The cover is easier to open, the thermos fit anyway instead of the perfect fit required for the V1. Most importantly the rubber seal has Changed so that nothing is trapped in between to creat mold. It take very little time to clean and dry now.
It is such a time saver and worth the money to replace the V1. I love that they don’t need an additional outer layer bag to put their lunch box in. The lunch box is big enough to carry all their snacks and lunch for the day.
The kids love the lunch box and are so proud to carry it around.
I bought this for my extremely picky eater and it’s given us so many more options for her school packed lunch. I always make sure to warm the thermos part with boiling water first as that really helps to keep the food warm until lunch.
She’s had pasta dishes, rice dishes and thick soups so far. The lunch box as a whole can hold a good amount of food and I also bought the silicone snack pots which are great as they’re leak proof so you can use them for things like yoghurts.
It definitely worth the money and I’d definitely recommend. My only negative is that’s it’s a little chunkier/heavier than our other lunch boxes.

I recently purchased a two pack of the green/navy ice pack kid boxes. Although the ice pack is an amazing idea, I feel that there is a major design flaw. With both of my boxes the inner compartment (Ice pack and lunch tray) do not clip securely into the outer box.
We have a few bentgo boxes without ice packs and these always click in and never move around. I feel that this is because the lunch tray in the ice pack model is much thinner than in the original bentgo boxes and can bend and therefore pop out easily.
The fact that things do not stay clicked in also makes securing the lunch box closed challenging. The latch also pops open super easily. On a few occasions my daughter’s lunch has ended up all over her back pack which as you can imagine is very stressful for a kindergartener.
We have never had these concerns with our other bentgo boxes. Maybe with older kids these concerns would not be a problem. But for a 3 and 5 year old these concerns are difficult to overcome. I really wanted to love the ice pack boxes but given my many concerns the convenience is just not worth it.
The orginal Bentgo lunch box is far better quality in my opinion. Customer service was great! They understood my concerns and rectified the situation quickly.

As many, I have tried many lunch boxes. Stainless steel is a must, and you can find that easily enough. About the box I can say it has the most minimalist design (no unnecessary folds in the metal), which makes it better to store and easier to wash.
They also nest, aprox. 60% of one the box fits inside another of same size. But the lid makes all the difference. Having a clear lid is super nice, because you can see what’s inside. without opening it.
Advantages of the silicone lid over the clear plastic lid are: – this silicone lid is more transparent than any plastic lid that I’ve seen (even comparing with their own ukonserve plastic lids) – the clear plastic lids come with clips that can break, and I had them break in the past – simpler to put on and remove (and it provides good tactile feedback to know when its fully in place) – the plastic lid will tarnish in time, will look used and less transparent.
I don’t think this will happen to the silicone – simpler construction makes the silicone lid easier to hand wash, with not sharp corners or edges – most plastic lids are not dishwasher safe – probably safer for food, although not much food should touch the lid.
The only disadvantage is that I would need to be more carefully if placing the lunch box in a backpack, to be sure the lid doesn’t come of if rubbed against other items. I think it shouldn’t come off easily, but it doesn’t give you the same certainty like the clips in the plastic lids.
I love well thought of products and this is one of them. I bough this at Target, for $16. At this moment, I have not met any competitor to offer a clear silicone lid in their lunch boxes.
Lightweight and a good size for salads. Base is easy to clean with the rounded corners and you don’t have to worry about chemicals from plastic. Lid is silicon and is leakproof only if it stays on; I find it’s a bit easy to pull off in transit so I make sure it is sitting upright if I have something liquid in it.
The lid has picked up a bit of discolouration from foods containing tomatoes/tumeric etc. , but this often happens with silicon. I still like this container a lot for packing my lunchtime salads and have purchased 2.
This container works very well. A nice bonus that it can be put in the freezer. You can fit a good amount of food into it and I like that it is made out of safe materials. The lid might be my favorite part, super easy to take on and off.
There are three main negatives about this product for me. 1) It is on the more expensive side for a single container. 2) It is not microwave safe. 3) Fingerprints show up on the metal very easily. Overall, I like the product, but I don’t think I would buy it very often.

This lunchbox is awesome I have had the issue of wetter foods seeping into the dry foods when using other containers, but with the Bentgo I no longer have this issue ! Another prob about this specific lunchbox is the amount of food it holds ! I can store a main dish in the large 3 cup side, toss it in the freezer, and then add leftover sides from other meals to the two 1 cup dividers later and pop it right back in the freezer. I thaw it in the fridge then uncover and pop it in a cold oven (I put it in when I turn it on, no preheating.
I don’t put the cold glass in a hot oven or go straight from freezer to oven) to reheat. It’s also microwave and dishwasher safe. It’s a great way to make a healthy meal when I’m short on time and depending on what’s stored and how full I’ve filled it we can often feed our family of three or lunch for two out of one storage container.
With a large 5″x5″x2. 6″ 3 cup and two smaller 2. 75″x2. 75″x2. 6″ 1 cup sections the bento box works well for a variety of foods. The lid has a silicone seal (removes easily for deep cleaning) and the lid locks down on all for sides for a tight, secure seal.
But most importantly the top of the lid has raised portions that fit over the glass dividers and along the edges for sealing each portion. Even if the dish is turned on its side the juice from your corn isn’t going to mix with your mashed potatoes or get your fried chicken mushy for example.
My main concern was storing liquids or runny foods so I was really happy to see this feature. While I wouldn’t store it sideways or upside down while full I don’t have to worry about it tipping during travel if I were taking it somewhere.
Definitely a great item. I’ll be buying a few more because I think with them stacked it’ll really help keep my fridge and freezer more organized while still being able to see exactly what’s inside.
I love this glass snack container. It’s a really thick glass so I’m not worried about it breaking when I send it with my daughter for her school lunches. I love that it has separate compartments! We love them so much that I just ordered the glass lunch containers and I’m excited to get them.
Love this – however I don’t use it very often as it is a bit heavy and bulky for smaller female hands to carry. However, it’s very nice to have a container that keeps items separate and does not leak into the compartments.

I really like the functionality of this lunchbox, and I love how it looks as well. It has a large bottom box, a lid that holds the utensils, and a split top box with the top lid. It holds a nice amount of food for a child or adult, and I really like that the utensils can be packed right with the lunch.
My biggest problem with this lunchbox is that the lids do NOT snap on. Seriously. Not even the top lid snaps on. The stretchy band that comes with it pretty much holds them all together. I really wish Bentgo would just make this with snap-on lids, because it would be so much easier and make so much more sense.
The lids just kinda sit on top of the boxes, but it is definitely not spill proof. Besides this super frustrating part, it’s a really nice, cute lunchbox.
I absolutely LOVE these. I had two that I purchased originally for myself something like 7 or so years ago, AFAIK when the company had just started. Recently my 3 year old and 1 year old have been going to daycare, and in an effort to make their lunch prep as easy as possible I was looking for the perfect lunch boxes for them.
I tried a few other brands, but ended up coming back to the classic Bentgo boxes. So I ordered 2 more, along with some fantastic accessories. I love that these are durable and easy to clean, and they’re going to be able to grow with my kiddos’s appetites.
And they’re reasonably priced compared to a lot of other kid lunch boxes. The only thing I would like would be a shorter strap or more convenient solution to using these bentgos with only the lower half.
Currently the teachers will send the bentgo boxes back collapsed (but still with some food stuffs), but the strap isn’t tight enough when it’s like that to keep it closed so some stuff with still leak out into their lunch bags.
Luckily we have bentgo lunch bags and those are super easy to clean!.
We used this all summer before I gave it a review. The compartments are not leak-proof. Therefore the juice from your strawberries or humus will undoubtedly soak whatever else is in there. This defeats the purpose of a lunch box as I had to separate fruit into plastic baggies.
Also, I don’t like that it needs the elastic band to keep it together. My daughter lost it at camp for a few days which renders the entire Beto box useless. I would not purchase this again. I would look for a better one that is leak-proof and snaps together.

I work at a Half-Day Preschool and I bring in my meals (starting in a few weeks). I have been bringing in my lunch and actually keeping it in my van with my windows cracked. My sandwich meat and cheese are still cold after a 4-hour shift! I was impressed by my son’s meals staying cold in the classroom but I’m EVEN more impressed that MY LUNCH is keeping cool in my hot car while I’m at work! I noticed that it’s best to have an upright lunchbox because if you have olives or fruit it has a little tendency to leak more than the children bento boxes.
Nice for for an adult or older kid. I am able to add a fruit and veggie in the small side with the added spacer. I can fit a caprisun, uncrustable, and cheese or go gurt with more than enough room for another uncrustable if needed.
So far the leak proof has been successful. Just make sure when cleaning it you take off the rubber on the top to clean so you don’t have any hidden mold. Very pleased with my purchase. ’.

My new 9th-grader didn’t want to take a traditional lunch box to school this year, so I searched online and found this one. We originally didn’t consider it because it’s a “kids” box, but the adult version offered does not have the removable freezer tray, which she needed to keep certain things cold.
So we went back to the Kids Chill and chose the gray color, which toned down the “kid” factor. Upon arrival, it doesn’t look like a kids box at all – it’s very stylish. It does get a little heavy with the freezer tray in, but that’s to be expected.
Still way more compact than a lunch box. Only complaint is when she put yogurt in one of the compartments, it leaked over into the neighboring compartments; not a biggie but we won’t be putting anything that liquid-y in again.
I bought the Bentgo Chill box for my preschooler. We used it a few times with the inner ice pack on some outings and picnics, and the food inside did NOT stay chilled. The ice pack is a thin piece of plastic that you freeze, not a true ice pack.
I also found that it was impossible for my 3 year old to close with the ice pack inside. So we have been using it without the inner ice pack for school and I put a real ice pack in his lunch box on top of the bentgo box.
I must say though, I do like the set up of this bentgo box better than the other (non chill) kids bentgo box. It holds plenty of food for my 3 year old for lunch (although we pack a separate morning snack).
For older kids, you might want to find something larger. He has been able to close the box without the icepack on his own after some practice at home. I would recommend putting the bentgo box inside a soft lunch box because there have been a few occasions that he did not snap it close completely, and some food or liquid did spill out.
Putting in another soft lunch box protected his backpack and stuff from getting covered in food. I recommend this box if you can find a good deal. But I would not purchase it just for the “chill” aspect, because you will be disappointed.
This bentgo chill lunchbox is the perfect size (not too deep/big food compartments) for my toddler in primary school (ages 2-5) daily lunches. It does not leak. It is easy to clean the main lunchbox part and the food compartment tray by putting them on the top shelf inside the dishwasher.
The freeze tray I just hand wash. I love the concept of the lunchbox staying cold for 6 hours, but I don’t believe it really keeps cold for that long; it’s more like 3-4 hours. We already had the hot pink one, now we finally were able to receive the light purple one (after it’s been sold out for almost 3 months).
I wish they offered a light pink color, and a bigger size for elementary kids say ages 6-9.

I wanted so much to like this. It really is cute and a great concept—I love that there’s a top compartment that holds flatware and smaller snacks, but it’s just too small. The snack would have to be flat, otherwise it’s a bit of wasted space.
The main compartment is a decent size but even that would probably work best for a young toddler who eats smaller portions. For the price, I’d say it’s not the greatest value.
My 2 year old daughter and I take adventures every day and she always loves opening her box to see what snacks I’ve made her. I recommend this item. Easy to clean. Is difficult for my child to open but that may be a physical skill she hasn’t developed.

This is hands down the best purchase I’ve made in a long time. I waited a year before justifying this bento box but I really wish I hadn’t. I thought I’d just get by with lots of different small containers and a few DIY bento type boxes (like the Kmart ice cube hack) and that’s exactly what I did.
carry around a hundred different containers, trying to cream them into a cooler bag, having lids come off and spill etc, for over a year. Now I get so so excited making lunches! I can make them the night before because it seals so well everything stays fresh.
And I only have one container to pack and remember. We’ve tried runny yoghurt next to sandwiches, watermelon, eggs, etc & nothing leaks or even comes close & smells don’t travel, it’s been designed so well! We have the 4 compartment box & the size is fantastic for a toddler it fits so much.
Also the cute pictures at the bottom (we got the woodlands one) keeps my daughter motivated to finish each section so that’s a bonus! The lunchbox is so easy to clean either dishwasher or a quick handwash, the corners are rounded so it’s real easy! The quality is amazing and it locks closed really well but still easy enough for my 2yo to open and close it by herself which is great! I’m expecting to have this for years to come.
Plus everything looks so pretty and colourful packed in together, I can see exactly what I’ve packed at a quick glance so I know what food groups I’m missing. Definite 5 stars from me, I’m converted 😁😁.
This is a great box for kids who like to pick at a variety of things for lunch. Mine always want crudités and fruit with every meal so it is perfect as it avoids the need for multiple mini Tupperware boxes.
The compartments are a good size too, though a little small for sandwiches. We have had a bit of seepage from tomatoes into other compartments, but as long as you try to carry it in an upright position, it’s not really a problem.
We have both the original and panino size and the panino has won out as the favorite because it seems to fit my kids’ food preferences best. You can fit a whole crustless sandwich, a small wrap cut in half, or a few silicone muffins liners with homemade lunchable type items in the large space.
The other 2 compartments will hold a decent amount of fruit/veg/yogurt. We use the small spot in the middle for a tiny sweet treat. Our son has used this size from Kinder-2nd and it is still in great condition.
