20 Best Laundry Detergent For Babies With Sensitive Skin (2023 Updated)

I was skeptical at first to use this laundry detergent as it’s free of dyes and perfumes yet claims to remove odors. So being skeptical, I used this for a load of laundry- all while hoping for a miracle.

It’s tough to find products that do what they claim to do so I didn’t have high hopes. Well let me tell you, I was wrong about this product. Gladly wrong that’s for sure! I was so pleasantly surprised at how great this Landry detergent worked! It is free of dyes and fragrances as I mentioned however, your laundry comes out with such a “clean” smell, it’s just lovely.

I will absolutely be purchasing this laundry again and most likely switch to it all together. I even wish they’d make one of those plug in air fresheners with that “clean” smell (hint hint ;))).

I absolutely love this product amd cringe at the idea of ever going back to products sold in large plastic containers. I just wanted to provide my opinion regarding some of the one star reviews, but it’s just my opinion.

1. One reviewer commented on how their clothes came out smelly without fragrance. Unfortunately this is likely due to bacterial growth in your clothes and often no detergent can rid that musky sewage smell in clothing until you get rid of the bacteria.

Adding a few teaspoons of vinegar usually does the trick and make sure you never throw your clothing in the hamper still damp. The dark damp environment provides a perfect place for bacteria to grow.

I’m suspecting that when the reviewer claims their typical detergent gets rid if the smell, it’s only in fact masking it with perfume-like products. 2. Yes, unfortunately when you put the strips in the detergent loader, a little residual tends to stay behind.

But I found this harmless and most of the product goes in. I found tearing the strip into small bits helped with this. At the end of the day, the positive environmental impact far outweighs, in my opinion, the insignificant first-world issues.

Not knocking on critical feedback because that’s the only way a product line can improve. But I disagree that any of the product’s flaws warrant a one star review. Especially in today’s environment climate crisis.

This product was fairly inexpensive and it’s concentrated, so it will last you a long time. Very little is needed per load. Unfortunately, If you use too much, it will make your clothes feel sort of slimey.

Nothing that another wash won’t fix. but that kind of defeats the purpose. I didn’t want the smell to be overpowering, and it wasn’t. I also wanted the detergent itself to be made with mostly natural ingredients.

At first it was working for me just fine, but over time I’ve become fairly unimpressed with it. I’ve decided when I finally run out I’ll probably try something else. The smell is just. Different. Not my favorite.

I love this detergent, it makes my towels so soft and much fluffier. It smells so amazing and clean yet homie and fresh. I can definitely tell a huge difference when I ran out of this and had to use the commercial brands.

They just way my clothes down with chemicals. But this is a soft, clean and addictive smell that doesn’t leave all that residue on my clothes. My husband and I had started to notice we were itching more than the usual itch here or there.

It was around our arms, chest and legs. We’d never had any issues before and after process of elimination I found it to be the laundry detergent I was using. I have tried the expensive and the cheap detergents, none made a difference and we kept itching.

Finally I stumbled my way to the Laundress and if by magic we no longer have any issues with itching. I first purchased the 33oz. to try it and now I’m back for the gallon. Next is baby scent and then No.

247. Nothing I’ve bought from here has been bad or disappointing. If in doubt of the scent try the sprays at an affordable price for a idea of what the detergent will smell like. Using just one pump versus a whole cup is definitely showcasing the cleaning power.

I do laundry at least 2 or 3 times a week and the 33oz lasted for about 2 months.

I’m got this in a FabFitFun mystery bundle and was excited to try it. I read the ingredient label and was happy that it was all natural or so I thought. I’m allergic to a specific ingredient in a lot of soaps and I didn’t see it on the list.

Fast forward a few months and I’m breaking out in hives everywhere! I couldn’t figure out what was causing it, couldn’t have been the new detergent because it didn’t have the ingredient listed on the bottle that I’m allergic to right? So I came to this website just to make sure, and the ingredient list is completely different than what’s on the bottle and low and behold the one ingredient I have to stay away from was in the list! For the love of all things holy, put the actual ingredient list on the bottle! People shouldn’t have to search for something as important as this to make sure they’re not doing harm to themselves! The perfume on this is super heavy as well so if you’re not a fan of perfumes don’t purchase this.

It did seem to clean my clothes although it didn’t seem to remove my perfume out of the dirty clothes.

This detergent is decent and if I could give 3. 5 stars, I would. It’s very concentrated, so a little goes a long way. It got fresh ketchup and mustard stains out of a white t-shirt with no pre-treatment, but the fresh orange stains did not come out of the same shirt on the first wash.

The lavender smells really good and the scent didn’t bother my baby’s eczema like the other lightly scented detergent we tried. I think we will ultimately stick with unscented, though.

I was skeptical trying this product but I am amazed at how well it does on stains and grimey kids clothes. From soccer, to cheer, to football and pet stains- this detergent has came through. It smells clean, the ingredients are clean, and it gets my clothes clean! This is a winner! My daughter is not a baby, she is 11, but has super sensitive skin and this dapple baby detergent has done great on her skin.

This is now on our monthly shopping list!.

I too bought this detergent to hand wash silk pillowcases. Strong odors really bother me and is certainly not something I want right by my face…and this one passes the test! Very mild, really almost nonexistent once my pillowcases dry.

Like others, I appreciate that it’s free of toxic chemicals and…a little goes a long way so it will last quite some time!.

This detergent is powered by plants, tough on stains and has 100% biodegradable ingredients. This laundry detergent cleans my laundry very well. Colors stay bright and whites stay white. It really works grat on dirt and stains, but it is very gentle for your skin.

It does not have any dyes, optical brighteners or synthetic fragrances. I love that it is a natural detergent which is safe to use for the whole family and especially for people and kids with sensitive skin.

The laundry feels very soft when coming out of the laundry machine and smells very fresh and clean. This detergent cleans my laundry whether I use it for whites, dark clothes or on gentle fabrics. When I use this laundry detergent I know that my laundry will be clean no matter how dirty the laundry will be and that it is safe to use.

i buy one of these a month and i cant go into the store so this is a life saver, because i cant buy this anywhere else online with its honest price. im allergic to most detergents and dryer sheets ect.

and this purex baby detergent doesnt give me hives like bounce, gain, and a bunch of other stuff does. its not perfumed, it just smells like a clean baby smell without being powdery or gross old lady smelling.

it smells clean and it doesnt trigger my migraines, it also works very well, i REALLY WISH it came in a bigger pump container style like all the others, bc i need a lot of this.

I can’t believe they changed the fragrance. I was so excited to use this again with my 3rd child. I ordered this online and when it was delivered I rushed to open it only to find it totally stinks and is absolutely nothing close to what it was.

Why in the world Purex would change something so great is beyond me. This ruined my whole day and I definitely wasted $5. This belongs in the garbage. On the bright side Dreft now smells completely different than it used to and it is much improved so that’s the route I’ll take I guess.

When I got pregnant with my first, I was appalled at the price of dreft. Babies are already expensive enough, no reason for washing their clothes to be too! I opted to try this and despite them being toddlers now, I still use it for them and even my things.

The smell lasts forever, it lifts just about everything-if you have babies you know how formula and some purees stain so bad ughh. This took care of all but the most stubborn things. Worked great with my youngest who had sensitive skin.

Imo, better than dreft and at a fraction of the cost.

Yall I’m loving this soap. My kids are so sensitive. And this is amazing unsented and no harshness to it what so ever. And it doesn’t have that wierd smell like some unsented laundry soaps do. So glad I found this product.

Any mommas out there looking for some amazing soap I’d definitely try this one. And the price isn’t aweful either.

I’ve been using this detergent for the last month and am really pleased with it. It works well and leaves my toddler’s clothing feeling soft and clean. It also doesn’t irritate his sensitive skin. My only issue is that the bottle needs some kind of pour spout – without one, the detergent tends to drip down the side of the bottle after pouring it into the measuring cap.

I’ve been using this detergent on my children’s clothes since my four and a half year old was a baby because he had such sensitive skin and eczema. I have tried the other fragrance free options in the baby aisle but always come back to babyganics because of its cleaning power and the clothes smell clean.

I dab it on stains as a pre treatment and that seems to work great. When Target stopped carrying it for a while I had to order it online from another retailer so I’m so happy that it is available again.

I started using Dreft detergent back in 2002. I have super sensitive skin and my sister does too. She was using Dreft and recommended it. I used the original formula up until 2019 when I saw they created this formulation that was unscented and said it was specifically for sensitive skin.

Everything has been good until I repurchased it last week. My 2 new bottles contained what looked to be a new formulation. The once nice and almost clear liquid has been replaced by a thick cloudy milky consistency.

I washed a couple loads with it but I became more and more concerned that maybe I had gotten a formulation that was defective because of the color. I called the (1 800) number on the back of the bottle and spoke to a very nice lady but her reassurances that the color was ok just didn’t sit right with me as she stated there wasn’t any new formulation.

So why is it a completely different color now. I just feel like something is off and maybe the company isn’t being on the up and up. So I think I may be done with Dreft. I also have to say I saw the other reviews about the original Dreft now having a new horrible scent.

I encountered that too and agree with those reviews. I too wish companies wouldn’t try to improve on perfect products, this really is such a bummer.

I’ve been using this for years to make my kids clothes/toys/bedding/towels, etc smell clean but mild (like a baby/child should smell) and the new fragrance smells like cheap perfume. It is SO strong, we were getting migraines and nausea because it permeated several loads before we realized it was the BABY detergent’s new formula that was overpowering every other smell in the house.

Had to rewash our stuff several times to get that funk out and donate 2 full bottles of this stuff. There are hundreds of perfume-y options on the market, and Dreft original seemed to be crushing it (we learned to buy in multiples because it was so often sold out) and for these reasons, I do NOT understand why it was changed.

Heads up to other parents/customers, if you want your baby to smell like a baby, Target’s Up & Up brand is still nice. And Dreft scent boosters still have that sweet baby smell (for now). UGH. Lost a customer.

I am so disappointed about your scent change! I’ve been using Dreft for over 5 years with my 3 kids and thought maybe it was just a change that you made with the “Active” baby stage detergent. I am so disappointed to find out that you also changed the scent to your newborn formula based on the reviews I’m reading.

I thought I at least could go back to purchasing the “Newborn” stage detergent to use with all of my kids, but after reading some of the reviews and your replies, I’m sad that it’s not possible. My little one is 5 months old and my bottle with your old scent is almost empty and I’m truly going to miss that sweet baby smell.

I wish that I didn’t have to find a new baby detergent, but my toddlers’ clothes smell so bad (your new scent smells like an awful bathroom cleaner), that I’m returning the bottle I purchased. I have purchased the scent beads in the past, but using it with your unscented detergent is not a long term solution.

You probably could have advertised a “new scented” detergent if you wanted to offer a new product. It’s disappointing that you chose to get rid of what so many have loved about your old detergent. I’m hoping you will listen to your loyal customers and bring back your original scent!!! It’s very disappointing that you no longer offer a product that I’ve been so loyal to, but so much more disappointing to those that have used your detergent for over 20 years (according to some reviews I read).

So, please, please bring back the old scent!.

I am in literal tears writing this review. I don’t normally write reviews but this is making me emotional. I’ve been using Dreft for 3 years with my one and only son. My fertility battle was not easy and couldn’t wait until I could purchase Dreft for a child of my own like so many Mamas before me.

As he’s into his toddler years now, I wasn’t quite ready to let go of the wonderful baby smell his clothes had. I absolutely loved doing his laundry so much with the previous scented Dreft. I loved to breath in his clothes and I was folding them and putting them away.

I just opened and used a new 150 fl oz. and did his laundry. I was caught off guard and horrified with the smell. It’s absolutely awful and it ripped away all of my wonderful memories of doing his laundry.

I wasn’t prepared to let go of his baby smelling laundry just yet and now I’m being forced too, without warning. I feel robbed. I wasn’t prepared to have to look for a new detergent for my son’s clothes.

I didn’t know that my last load with my old bottle would be my last baby smelling load. I’m so saddened by this experience. The smell is so strong, it’s stuck in the back of my mouth and I can taste it.

I don’t want a silly response about how so many parents “love” this disgusting new floral smell over the original scent. I don’t want someone to reply trying to fake being empathetic to a mother’s memory or struggle.

Read the room. parents hate the new scent and can’t afford to buy scent boosting additive in addition to another detergent just to see “if” it replicates the original version. Honestly, words can’t express how incredibly heartbroken this makes me.

The only thing that can fix this for me and, so many others, is to bring back the original scent or, at least, offer it as an option along side the new version. I was a loyal user and, unfortunately, will not be purchasing anymore of your products.
