20 Best Laser Level For Builders (2023 Updated)

Finally!! A simple, easy to use laser level. This is also the smallest of my laser levels, smaller by far that any of the others. Just to be certain, I check this laser level against other levels. It is correct.

The laser’s red horizontal and vertical lines are easy to see in a brightly lit room, another plus. The gimble that comes with the level is easy to use and holds securely but I find I have more flexibility and versatility when i mount the level on a sturdy camera tripod.

Works fine for about five minutes then starts flashing, as if it’s too far out of level to self level. This occurred from a lessor extent when I purchased it about 2 years ago, but it is now unusable; after only infrequent use.

Bosch offered no help on this, other than to suggest I change the batteries – I have tried three different sets. And, their advice was to purchase another one.

One of the first items I bought when starting our renovations at home and has proven to be one of the handiest. The 1/4″ female thread is a good feature for mounting – I mounted it to a quick release plate for use with my camera tripod.

Have used this for literally everything from the ground up – Levelled out the yard, concrete formwork, Re-levelled the house (post & beam style foundations), deck framing, re-levelled septic & drainage pipes, framing, installing windows, siding, lighting layout, wood panelling, installing kitchen, tiling.

the list goes on and it’s still going strong after 4 years! Great value for money.

Love this laser and it features. the plumb bob is particularly handy in ways you never can imagine. I use this laser almost everyday for something. Beware it does eat batteries. I bought some Duracell rechargeable batteries and keep 2 sets fully charged.

It also doesn’t throw a vertical line very far down if you have it up high. I have to keep it lower so that line makes it all the way to the floor. Had it up about 8-9 foot today setting some tall door casing but had to lower it so I could see line clearly near the floor.

Laser was about 6-8′ from the wall.

Bought this a year ago. Loved it. Magnet is well but didn’t bother me much. Not I can’t get the plumb line to go on. Just disappointed. I wouldn’t mind upgrading but not if the buttons are going to wear or only used it daily for the last three months.

Green lime red dot. Just really wished it worked correctly.

Absolute piece of junk. Used for 6 months and the buttons wear out. Klein should be synonymous with top of the line. Not the case. Just upset. Magnet is meh. Plumb line does not go all the way up a stud.

Nice try poor execution.

This is not a rotary laser. Instead, it throws a continuous (green) line in a 360 degree circle by way of some sophisticated optics. Rotary lasers need to spin at a fairly high rate in order for the “flying dot” to look like a line.

The line thusly created is, by necessity, dimmer than the stationary dot. Major good points: Low cost. Good alignment. Can see green line with (reasonable amount of) lights turned on. Don’t have to work in the dark as with older lower power red rotary laser.

Slight negative: Has three little tabs that stick out from the bottom for it to sit on. This is fine if you have a smooth. not at all pebbly, surface. Permanently attaching the base minimizes this difficulty but isn’t a panacea.

I used it as a reference for levelling concrete floor forms for a multi-section floor pour. This is not a clean room operation! Although the self leveling ability works as advertised, it still has to be stable and fairly close to level.

I set up a relatively smooth and level platform for it to sit on just above the top of the forms. A fairly short legged tripod with adjust screws on its feet, or perhaps a triangular piece of metal plate with screws at the corner, would come in very handy for floor jobs.

Soon, we’ll be pouring a one piece concrete footer/stem wall foundation. I expect it to really nice for setting forms (at least in the morning or evening) as I can drive a vertical piece of pipe into the ground in the center of the work area and mount the laser unit on a smaller pipe telescoping out of the first pipe for a solid base that can quickly be height adjusted as the jobs work elevation rises.

Caveat: Don’t expect it to be easily visible in bright summer mid day sunlight. For that you will have to spend about $900. 00 more than what this tool cost fo purchase a much higher power unit!.

I really wanted this laser level to work. I read the directions and tried to get it to work properly numerous times, losing a day of work. It will not stop blinking on and off no matter what I do. It will not self level after having done that in the beginning.

I paid over $100 and can’t use it. In fact it is costing me time and money. I tried to reach the company but they do not have phone service, only email. The next day they sent an email back stating they do not have phone service and they want me to send them a video.

I want my money back and will buy another brand, perhaps a DeWalt. Patty.

Great laser level for the price! Used to from beginning to end during my remodel. Very accurate and easy to ready. When framing walls, The plumb dot is great for figuring out where to put your top plate after marking out your lines on the floor.

Definitely would recommend to anyone who is looking to frame, install cabinets, and really any home renovation project. You will probably find a good use for it somewhere.

Awesome laser. I’m a Milwaukee guy, but this laser has absolutely blown the Milwaukee 3 plane out of the water. Absolutely incredible. The laser seems to be more level, especially over long distances, brighter, and the tripod and BM-1 mount is super handy.

Plus it comes in a hard case.

I picked up this BOSCH combo deal just before Christmas 2016 at nearly 50% off and have yet to see a deal beat this one! I have used BOSCH tools professionally and am very excited to have a set of my own for personal use.

No more breaks waiting for my failing NiCad batteries to charge. Li-Ion is the only way to go for battery life and power. Everything you’ll need in this kit with drill, impact driver, reciprocating saw and bonus light.

The only way this deal could have been better would be to have it packaged in a L-Boxx which I may buy at a later date. Thanks Tyler Tool!.

The BOSCH-GLL3-330CG line laser is amazing. It is absolutely accurate straight out of the box – no calibration needed after going through the rumble and tumble of shipping. I checked all planes with my Stabila Type 196 levels and they were all perfectly plumb and level.

Outdoors,the green lines were bright and sharp. This line laser makes work a breeze. One of my best purchases.

I really wanted these simple functions for home use. Set on a tripod, the unit perfectly levelled with a spirit level, front to back and side to side, it still blinks maddeningly. The beam does not reach 30 feet – maybe 10, 12 in complete darkness.

Complete waste of my time.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well this actually worked. I have two jobs that required a laser level, and I figured for the price difference, I’d at least try one for Harbor Freight. The lines are strong and visible, and the self-leveling is easy and consistent.

This was much less expensive than name brand units and had better reviews than the cheaper models available through places such as Amazon. It helped me complete both of my projects and seems to be working well for future ones.

I don’t buy many tools from Harbor Freight, but it reminds me of an angle grinder I bought in 1997. I paid $10 for it hoping that it would work on a single project. I used that thing 1,000 times over the years and just replaced it in 2021.

And the reason it was replaced was not because the grinder quit working, I accidentally cut my power cord.

I volunteered to replace a backsplash in my sister-in-law’s kitchen. The previous one was not level, ugly, and unprofessionally done years ago (by me, I might add). I bought the Bauer Laser Level specifically for this job and am so happy I did.

It kept me totally level, worked great and was super easy to use and understand. I honestly could not have done the job without it. I am hanging wallpaper next week and this tool will be a critical part of that as well.

Super happy with it, 5 stars is not enough.

Someone had given me a similar device a few years ago, but that one had no way to mount it on a tripod. This one mounts easily, has a reasonably bright light (more expensive ones generate a brighter light that would cover greater distances).

The batteries seem to last. I kept it on all day Sunday while I was tiling to keep the rows and columns perfectly lined up, and the battery is still going strong. This is the third full day of leaving it on while I was working.

It levels easily and doesn’t bounce too much.

Being old-school, I was reluctant to purchase the newer laser type levelers when they first came out almost two decades ago. The technology was available for use in the construction industry, however, I was a bit slow in converting over because I already had a 50 year collection of multiple sizes and types of levels.

I wasn’t ready to make the jump to this newer “Laser” technology, and so I remained with my old-school levels. But then. About 3 years ago, I started preparing for my retirement, and part of that process was to have a plan “B” in case I needed to go back to work.

My choice for plan “B” was the construction business. And so, after extensive research for the brand, and quality, of tools that I would need for this possible adventure, I decided to go with the “DeWalt” 20v MAX collection of tools due to their reliability over the years.

I was NOT disappointed! I had my eyes on DeWalt’s DW08825LG 12v 5-Spot + Green Line Laser Kit, however, being deterred by its cost, I decided to start off with more of an entry level laser, and so I chose the DW088 series of lasers.

I then went through a struggle with choosing between the Red or Green laser models. Research showed the Green laser to be a bit brighter and easier to see in daylight over the Red one, so I went with the DW088CG model.

(I also picked up a DW08801 Red laser for comparison, which is shown in the photos below). (Depending on your lighting, and the coloration of the material reflected on, both the Red & GRN lasers have their advantages over the other).

I was indirectly then attracted to the DW088 laser series because of its lower cost, (easily affordable), its small, light weight of 3. 5 lbs, (ease of portability), its use of 3 1. 5v AA batteries, (easily attainable), and its ability to mount in diverse ways; plus, it was “Self Leveling.

” It has an attached 180 degree integrated magnetic pivoting mount, which also has a 1/4″ X 20 thread on the bottom of the unit for mounting to a standard camera tripod. The magnets allow attachment to most metal objects, such as the metal drywall strip on most internal wall corners, as shown in one of my photos.

It also includes another detachable bracket that connects magnetically, and allows further mounting options such as ceiling brackets, nails, etc. and is contained within its own DeWalt molded “hard case” for protection and storage.

*** I REALLY like the DeWalt HARD cases!!! *** The DW088CG laser uses a “constant pulse” for detection with an optional DW0892G Green Line Laser Detector that allows detection up to a distance of 165′.

(Always pay attention to the fine print, which says it can achieve a range of 165′ WITH a detector), [sold separately]. The laser’s “visible” range is 100′ without the detector. I have measured this and I have achieved a distance greater than 100′, which is very significant for its intended use.

I do NOT own a detector, therefore, I am unable to verify the MAX range of the unit with the use of said detector. The Self-Leveling feature allows the unit to be “auto-corrected” within a +/- 4 degree tilting of the device without any outside adjustment.

If tilted beyond this limit, the “Out of Tilt” Range Indicator will cause the laser beam to “FLASH” until manually brought within the +/- 4 degrees of tilt, (Level/Plumb). This was a GREAT advantage for me in the use of the lasers to level and plumb the fabrication of my barn stalls, in that I did NOT have to use the cumbersome “string levels”, neither did I have to constantly “dodge” the strings that held them, along with the “re-leveling” of them every time they were run into, or an adjustment was made to a post, or such.

The first thing that I wanted to do was to check and verify its accuracy, so I setup the laser at the end of my 40′ hallway and went through the calibration procedures. (These measurements were also double checked with my “physical” levels for comparison).

Being a DeWalt product, I was expecting things to be BETTER than what was stated on the brochures, which was +/- 1/8″ at 30′. My results at 40′ as recorded in one of the photos below, was quite a bit tighter than the specifications; the Horizontal Beam, Scan Direction being 1/16th”, the Horizontal Beam, Pitch Direction being 1/32nd”, and the Vertical Beam at 12′ was 1/16th”.

All of these results far exceeded the specification requirements of the product, as recorded within the manual. (I did notice, however, that the printed manual included with my 1st laser, was now replaced with only a digital version for my 2nd laser).

[Ouch!] There are actually two separate lasers in this product; one for the vertical plane, and one for the horizontal plane. The On/Off switches are located on the left side of the unit and allow them to be turned On/Off independently of each other, giving the user the ability to use either one, leaving the other laser turned off, and preserving the battery’s EOL, (End Of Life), until needed.

It has “Battery Low Voltage” detection, along with a “Battery Low” indicator that “flashes” when low voltage, <25% of charge, is detected, and is located next to the On/Off switches for the lasers. I cannot verify the continual "run-time" of the batteries, due to my turning them off when not making measurements, however, I used them, in my opinion, quite extensively before needing to change the batteries.

**** BTW – I NEVER leave the batteries in ANY of my battery operated tools. A faulty and/or corroded battery can cause extensive damage, or force an expensive replacement. **** The uses for this tool is well beyond my initial perception over the older Traditional Levels and String Plumb Bob.

I can display the laser beam across the whole room at one time and NOT have to constantly move it as I work on different pieces of the project. Cabinetry hanging, wall/Joist/rafter alignment, floor tiling, ceiling tiling, hanging lights, and especially ceramic back-splash alignment, and electrical outlet alignment to keep everything square/level/plumb.

Wow! Just think what I could accomplish if I had the DW08825LG 12v 5-Spot + Green Line Laser Kit model and one of the detectors! The Dewalt DW088CG Self-Leveling Cross-Line GREEN Laser is listed as a Class 2 laser having.

I’m very impressed with this Dewalt cross laser device. I have a red crossline laser from another manufacturer and based on its performance my perception for these devices was a “nice to have toy”, but boy I was wrong, this green line laser is miles better than the red laser, I can put the device on the floor and it will mark a vertical line from floor to the ceiling, I tested indoors and had no problem drawing a horizontal line 50 feet away.

Here are the key features that I like about it: • It works; the green line is not a mimic, I have a attached a picture comparing red vs green line. The difference is night and day. • Simple to use; want draw a horizontal ? Press the horizontal line button, want to draw a vertical line? Press the vertical line button.

There is no dedicated on/off button just press the horizontal or vertical button again. • The low battery indicator light will turn on when batteries have less than 25% of charge. • IP54. protection against dust and water splash.

Do not swim with it : ) • Attaching / mounting options ○ If you are drawing vertical lines (i. e aligning studs) just put it on the floor, the laser will draw a line from floor to ceiling ○ To draw horizontal lines, most likely you will need to put the device above the floor using a tripod or mounting it on the wall / ceiling, It has two powerful magnets on the back so you can attach it to any metal objects, like metal studs and metal doors, it also comes with an extra base that you can screw to wood or clamp it on drop ceiling.

○ I like how you can rotate the base up to 180 degrees. Room for improvement • The device comes with an extra bracket to clamp it to a drop ceiling, however most of the drop ceiling rails nowadays are very thin, when clamping the unit to the drop ceiling the rail bends due to the unit’s weight making the mark not accurate, this is not the device’s fault but It would be great to redesign the clamp to open at least 2 inches with rotation so it could also be attached to 2×4 studs.

• The batteries that come with the device are generic low quality batteries, they are prone to leak. Out of the box the batteries were leaking acid. These are consumable items and does not affect the evaluation of the laser device but it would be nice if it came with better batteries out of the box.

I do recommend this laser device for indoor work, and small outdoor work, for outdoors there are other type of devices from Dewalt especially designed for outdoors that work very well with bright sunlight.

If you are a homeowner thinking about buying the Christmas special laser devices that you see at the home center for less than $50. don’t do it. Those are only good for hanging picture frames, instead invest in a quality device like this Dewalt.

Got this laser level to use in comparison with the one I was previously using (a different brand) on job sites. I am partially color blind and had a very hard time seeing the red laser line with the other set up past 5-6 ft.

from the unit. I was pleasantly surprised when I turned this unit on and could see the vibrant green line the entire way around the room. When it comes to using the unit, there are lots of positives.

The mounting bracket, although mostly plastic, is very sturdy in its construction. The pivot bracket is also sturdy and I found no deviation when rotating the unit side to side, when mounted. The magnets are strong and hold the unit in place without sliding.

I liked the fact that there is a stop point on the mounting bracket to which you can set the pivot bracket to with consistency. It’s gives the user the ability to remove the unit from the mounting bracket, use it else where, and then put it back and not have to worry about readjusting it.

Unit is extremely accurate. I do high end custom cabinetry and generally work to 1/32” of an inch when building and installing (try to work by the saying “aim small, miss small”) so accuracy is key. Over the distance of 22’ ,from unit to wall, I was able to figure out that there was just under 1/32” deviation.

Cons One thing that I wish this unit had was a field of view that was slightly past 180*. There was a point during initial setup on a job that I had to reset the laser due to it not being able to cover all needed areas at once.

Another thing I can see potentially becoming an issue with consistent use is the screw holes on the mounting bracket. Due to the bracket being plastic, there may be a chance to wear through those hole over time.

Overall this is a sturdy, well built accurate unit that is very easy to calibrate and use as long as you take the time to do it properly.

When I opened up this laser from it protective case it screamed ruggedness. Just holding it in your hand you know this laser will be able take un intentional bumps and I am a sure to expect during my projects.

During my first use for a small project in my bedroom this laser worked perfectly to line up some wall hangings with crisp green lines that were easy to see on the wall. After that project I was curious what kind of range this lasers had.

I took it out to my 48*40 shop and placed it in the center and the lines were easily visible on all walls on all the axes, which will be handy for a future project to run some electrical conduit looking nice and level on the walls.

So the charging cable is supplied but you will need to supply a power head to plug the USB into in order to charge the unit. I had a wall wart to plug the USB into laying around from a cell phone charger as this laser needs 5VDC to charge the included re-chargeable battery.

I imagine you could also plug it into a computer or whatever as well. You will have to supply your own tripod if you want to set it in the center of the room, but there is also a magnetic mount included that works perfectly fine if you have something magnetic to mount it too.

When using the laser there is a battery indication gauge as well to let you know when it is getting close to needing a charge as well. So the “self leveling” feature was easy to use. Basically after you do it once using the included instructions you will be able to do it repeatedly.

And if you do not get it right the level has an indicator light to let you know that the level is not self leveling. I am impressed with this level and am sure I will find it nice addition to the tool box.

I think this is a nice quality tool and with the proper care will last for years to come.

Had it for several months now and I am thoroughly impressed, expecially considering the price difference between say bosch and milwaukee. Initially bought to grade concrete patio but now I use it around the house and mainly at work as an electrician.

I will say the battery gauge is seems to be a little wack. Turn it on and it will be full bars and sometime minutes later it will drop a couple. Maybe it takes a second for it to gauge? That being said havnt had any issues with battery life.

I do a lot of work on my home and this Klein Tools rechargeable self leveling green planar laser level is absolutely amazing! I was a little hesitant at first about it being self leveling but after double and triple checking it’s outcome it was spot on Everytime! The level isn’t big and bulky which is nice and I only need a small area to store it in.

The laser lights are bright enough to be seen on any surface but not so bright it hurts your eyes. This level is extremely easy to use! Whether you’re a professional or just doing tasks around the house, I highly recommend this Klein tools self leveling laser level.

I bought this level three months ago. For the record I love Dewalt, always have. However, lately I am starting to grow very concerned over the quality and durability. Three months ago I finally decided to pull the trigger on a new tool, a Dewalt 3 Beam Laser Level.

After Researching and budget considerations I spent a little more than I wanted to purchased a DEWALT DW089K Self Leveling 3 Beam Line Laser. I have attempted to use this item a few times with little to no success.

The first few times I tried using the laser, the lines were very faint, the laser barely noticeable both inside and outside. Each time the line became more and more difficult to see. I changed the batteries thinking they were the problem, nope same thing faint hard to see lines.

Now, the unit has stopped working completely! No lines, no signs of life. To top it off the metal has become corroded and pitted. See attached photo. The unit has been left in its case for protection yet it looks like it has been through war! I am going to attempt the contact the warranty department about this unit to see what they can suggest or do to remedy the situation.

Stay tuned as I will update how it goes. At this time I will not recommend this product, I feel for the amount spent it should run like a top. However if the support is solid I will change my review as I also feel tools can have faults.

Was happy with the laser when it was working. Unfortunately l can’t speak to the longevity of the unit. I used it 5 or 6 times over the past 2 years,. then the unit just stopped working. No drops, misuse etc.

Warranty is only good for 1 year. they say 3 years “limited warranty for manufacturing defects”, but supposedly when the unit just stops working after 5 or 6 uses, it isn’t a manufacturing defect?? Paid close to 400 dollars for this unit.

Really disappointed in dewalt’s quality over the past few years, l have purchased many of their products, but quality seems to be going downhill on some of their priducts.

I purchased this Dewalt DW089K laser unit a few years ago and I can say that this is one of the most useful purchases I have made where it comes to tools. This laser has never let me down. I have used it to line up kitchen cabinets, ceramic tiles, shelves, pictures, and even micro LED ceiling pot lights.

I use it mainly indoors and the red color is great for my uses. Next I plan on using it to install some wall trim in some areas of my house. I also like that it uses AA batteries, which means that the unit will either become obsolete or breakdown in time before I every worry that proprietary batteries would become obsolete and become hard to find years down the road.

What can I say other than treat this tool with care and it should give you years of great service and amazing results too. I would highly recommend this this tool without any reservations to anyone looking to purchase a reliable and very useful line laser tool.

I purchased this to level theatrical truss and decks. I will say that it’s easy to use, very intuitive and so far seems robust. One thing I will say is that I asked if this red laser would be effective for use outside without the receiver at short distances (30′-50′).

Another words could I just spin it up and look for the line and negate the need for the receiver. I was told it would be possible, short answer is forget about it. You need the receiver, my guess is that a green laser may work, but il’ll never know at this point.

Other than that, as long as it keeps working, I’ll be happy!.

I have used this product in the past but recently changed jobs. My new employer did not have a laser leveler and did not want to buy one due to its cost. This had made my job leveling deck railing on mobile systems so much easier and quicker in the past that I decided to but my own leveler.

Although this laser costs a lot up front, the savings realized by using less labor hours and in having much fewer mistakes makes it well worth the money. I will never go back to measuring and leveling railing it.

Now I am teaching my crew how to use it. They are amazed at how much easier it makes their job.

When I order the laser I entered the promo code Free tripod. When the laser came there was no tripod Or grade rode. I call their customer and asked if they could overnight the tripod and grade rode in which I was willing to pay for.

The next day I got nothing. I call back and spoke to them again and they now where going to overnight them for free (great) next day I get the grade rode and there was no tripod. Now I have to go buy a tripod 79$ so I can start my project.

After cooling down I call again a day later and take to them again and she says we just sent it out. So after 3 phone calls I have everything I need + an extra tripod that cost me a extra 79 $.

IšverstiShow in original languageMy mission was to strike an accurate waterline on a boat I built. The boat was still upside-down and needed the painted waterline to be very accurate. After fiddling with the Self-Leveling Laser a while, I gained confidence in it’s accuracy and forged ahead.

The waterline came out extremely well. This equipment saved a lot of time and work as compared to the traditional way of obtaining a marked waterline.

Light has been bright enough and it’s very easy and quick to set up, especially with self leveling-.

I realized on my next build I will use it for cabinets, windows etc. I do wish it’s self leveling range was higher even though I don’t need it now but see where it would come in handy on many off cement areas.

This laser is absolutely amazing. It was well thought out, and is well constructed. I also own a Dewalt DW089K laser, and the difference from the red laser to green is incomparable. The line is extremely crisp and thin even at distance, and it can be seen in a bright room without problem.

Another great upgrade is that it comes with a locking pendulum, something my prior one lacked. The case is a bit larger than I expected, but allows room for the charger and two additional batteries, along with one in the laser (Note the kit only comes with one battery).

Overall I am extremely pleased with its performance so far. As an electrician, it makes countless tasks much easier and saves time.

I bought this laser with the 2017 new year special. When I received the item the 12v battery was perfectly functional but the laser was not. The 4 green led lights on the side control panel indicated a fully functional battery, also tested battery with dewalt 12v drill.

The laser would not remain on, it would flash briefly once every 2 or three on/off switch presses and immediately turn off. both the vertical and horizontal laser fit this pattern. The flashing pattern was not the repeated out of plum or low battery flashing described in the manual.

It seemed more indicative of a loose or poor connection inside the laser. Hopefully I will be able to return the item for a working version.

Set up and use is easy. The green light is much more visible than my red light. Only fault I find is that I would like the on/off switch to be separate from the pendulum lock. I would like to have the level light on and be able to move it from plumb.

Sometimes the project is not square but you need a line to follow.

No case so i reissued my case from my old ryobi which broke instructions were vague on battery placement but the tool is intuitive.

Bought to level soffits. Works as intended. No complaints here. The top clamp that clamps onto the device itself seems a bit loose, but it doesn’t droop. Maybe that’s how it’s meant to be?

Purchase and delivery were simple. Shipping container was in good condition Product looks brand new – is it? Much easier to see the laser mark when it is dark. But the sensor mounted on the measuring stick is all you need – if you turn it on.

Be sure not to stand in front of the receiver sensor. It won’t beep. Also there are four ribs/posts on the top of the laser that stop the signal for very short distances. Just move past that area and the signal picks up a gain [very minor issue].

Learning what the sequence of beeps means, you quickly understand when you are level. Very satisfied. Used it outdoors for prepping the building site for our 10,000ft warehouse addition. When your eye tells you the grade can’t be level, trust the laser – it is spot on.

I love this tool! I’m a chef by trade, so there is no real point for me to use this tool everyday of my life. It is super easy to use and figure out. I’m a guy and I don’t read directions. With the help of YouTube and customer feedback and knew what to do.

My fianc? and I built a patio in our backyard it was 15 x 18’. Without this tool I would never got to pitch right. Well I would’ve but It would’ve took 80 times longer. Also our backyard is higher than the patio is so we have to do some excavation so water doesn’t drain onto the patio.

With this tool I know exactly where to take from and where to add to. Just a great tool.

I bought this a couple week ago. it seems to be a great little unit and I would probably give it 4-5 star but the rod included in the kit is for an optic level. it doesn’t have the correct measurements for using it with a laser level.

so for every measurement you need to move the receiver on the rod and for any measurements out of your reach it is completely useless. I paid this kind of money for the ease of use and something as simple as the rod makes this kit useless.

I will be reaching out to customer service to see if they can provide a different rod. if not, it will be returned to store.

I love this laser level. I’ve had it for a few years. My complaint is that the vertical line stopped working after 1. 5 years. Recently, I called DeWalt to have it fixed but they could only offer me a new one at a tiny discount.

The person on the phone told me it “was a good deal”. I told them a good deal is that I don’t have to replace my $500- laser level every few years due to a modest amount of use. Not happy.

This product is awesome. I’m an electrician and I bought this tool to help me lay out pot lights and put up those long lights. It helps so much to be able to mark out everything on the floor and have the laser line or plumb bob dot on the ceiling.

Now I don’t need to mess around with a measuring tape on a ladder and try to reach across the whole room while hoping the tape measure doesn’t snap. My dad also used it to frame up a couple walls and he loved this laser and said it makes life easier.

Great product. And it is a must have tool. I would recommend getting this specific laser as it has the plumb spot and the cross laser. My boss had to buy 2 seperate lasers because the first laser he bought was only the cross laser, so he bought a second laser that only did the plumb spot.

This laser does both which is awesome.

The laser seems to be great, haven’t had a chance to use it in the field yet. Set it up in the shop and seemed to work great. There are a couple of things dewalt could do much better on. First the little plastic stand that comes with the laser is really poor quality mine is loose and flops around, real garbage.

The other thing is to use it outside they recommend using a detector with the laser that’s no problem, the case for the laser should have room to accommodate the detector and the holder so everything can be stored and transported together.

I had to buy a new case which ran about 50 bucks. Anyway great laser.

Right up front, let me state that this is a multi-function Line/Point laser, and you may not need the Point feature that provides additional plumb/squaring functionality. The SK104Z is Makita’s cross-line (non-Point) laser whose line features should be 100% comparable to what I review below.

If you feel that you’ll use a cross-line significantly more than a point laser, you may opt to go with the less expensive Makita, with the option to add on a Bosch (or other less expensive) point laser in the future.

Range: The Makita has full 180 degree horizontal spread, and 120 degree vertical spread — and it’s easy to overlook just how much this matters. Many other lasers I’ve tried are very good at projecting to the wall opposite the laser, but only extend slightly onto adjacent walls (if at all).

This thing blows those out of the water. I can place the laser at a 45 degree angle in one corner of the room and literally get about 95% of all four walls covered with a crisp horizontal line. It’s not quite a rotary laser, but it’s darn close for my purposes.

The line range is 50 feet on each side of the laser, and it maintains accuracy quite well over that distance. Regarding exterior use, all red lasers are limited in heavy sunlight. but this one is better outdoors than others that I’ve used.

The standard options of a detector, laser glasses, or the included red target, may help outside (depending on the sunlight). Or just do your layout work at dawn/dusk. Durability: Compared to the versions you can get at home centers (Bosch, Stanley, etc), this thing is a beast.

It is rated against water and dust intrusion, and the rubber-overmold feels extremely well-built. The glass panels are recessed and appear to have been placed in such a way that they will resist the forces of a drop.

I really did think that other models I have used had pretty solid build quality — until I got my hands on this one. Now those other units almost feel like toys, where the Makita feels like it was built to withstand jobsite conditions.

Other protective features include a lock-switch, a thick case, and an additional pad that you can velcro around the unit in its case for additional protection in transit/storage. Accessories: It comes with a tri-purpose mount that allows for tripod, wall, or magnetic mounting.

The dial-screw on the Makita mount is more user friendly than other designs I have used. The one ding here is that the magnets on the mount are spaced too far apart for mounting to a narrow pole (such as a FastCap Third-Hand tool).

There are, however, other third-party laser mounts that can serve this purpose. It also comes with a PDF manual and a target for added visibility (and/or drop ceilings). I have used both the *excellent* Bosch Compact Tripod, and a magnetic pole mount with this — it was very easy to perform accurate adjustments it in either scenario.

Feature set: This is a four-point laser from a technical standpoint, but is a five-point in practice. The fifth is created at the intersection of the horizontal and vertical beams. The unit has five modes: 1) Horizontal line 2) Vertical line 3) Horizonal line + Vertical line 4) Four-point plumb laser 5) All On (Five-point laser + Horizonal line + Vertical line) One feature I like is that modes 3-5 can only be “activated” when you’ve unlocked the laser, which is a nice indicator that you accidentally left your lock on (it also has a warning light for this).

Once the laser is set to the mode you want, the lock can be reactivated in any mode — allowing for things like angled lines for stair-rails, etc. When unlocked, the laser auto-levels very quickly (2-3 seconds), and does not bounce from the vibrations created when you walk around the room.

The once exception is that tripod use on hard floors, where it will bounce for a second or two if you stomp around too much. Power: This uses 3 AA batteries, which is comparable to a lot of other units.

It is superior to the ones that use 4 AA’s or, worse, Ni-Cd batteries. As noted above, the ability to select just the lines or points you need is a nice power-saving feature. I’ve used it for about 8 hours so far on the factory batteries.

My Cat: He loves it and is terrified of it at the same time. Overall: My generic opinion of Makita is that they are rarely first-to-market with their tools, but when they do get around to building something, they typically deliver a well above-average product.

Even with this mindset going in, they still blew my expectations away with their build quality, accuracy, and feature set. Again, if you don’t need Point functionality, I’d recommend trying to catch the SK104Z on sale.

If you DO need a point laser, the SK103P is superior to other combination line/point lasers that I’ve tried at its price point. Regardless of which of these units you choose, you won’t be disappointed.

This is a superb laser! And for the price to have a cross point laser and a plumb bob in the same laser is a steal for $300. It has a super precise thin red laser that goes 180 degree horizontal line and 120 degree vertical line.

It also has a pulse feature if you buy a remote laser indicator to detect where the laser line is when invisible to the naked eye. I would also recommend DEWALT DW089LG 12V Beam Battery, Green laser as well $500.

I’ve used both in conjunction with one another and highly recommend both. But for the price point you can’t do better than the makita! Hope this helps.

I seriously cannot believe I didn’t buy one sooner. like years ago sooner. I’m currently finishing a basement and this thing has become my life line. I’m using it for walls, studs, outlets, overhead lights, literally everywhere I can.

I look around my house and see how many things I’ve hung up in pairs and struggled to match their heights and now I sit here wondering why I tried so hard when this was the answer.

Amazing time saver. I’ve done soooo many projects with this Bosch GLL3-300 in the couple sort weeks I’ve had it. Why? Because they were projects I could not conceive of a reasonable way to do otherwise.

My favorite? I built an outdoor workout room where I squared and leveled the foundation, I squared and leveled the stone tile flooring, I squared and leveled the framing, and on and on and on. You can’t believe how FAST things go.

In fact, my only unfulfilled need? I want two of them. Put them in opposite corners of a structure and and you can frame the whole cube without moving anything. Let me tell ya, doubling up? That’s a bunch o money, but I’m thinking I’m gonna do it.

Fantastic tool for determining large room leveling, plumb and square. Incredible laser range and sharp laser lines. The lines are very visible indoors, but it disappears at short distances outdoors in bright sunlight.

A laser receiver solves this as does using the laser at twilight & dusk. The laser can be easily seen radiating from the device >150ft. Also the laser comes with a surprisingly well designed multi-applicable mount that swivels, adjusts up/down ~ 2.

5, can pinch mount thin flat surfaces, or strongly attach to metal surfaces via magnets.

So this one is really great! I have found a few things tho that Im not really a fan of. The mount does not tighten up so fas as I can tell. so it spins easily when mounted. I did not get the book with it so I dont get to look it up.

But also you cannot turn on one laser at a time. The top and front I believe you can but not the side the front comes on with it. Overall it is built very well the line is nice and thin and bright.

I purchased this attic ladder for access to my garage attic space (30″x30″opening). I looked online and there weren’t many options available, aside from opening the size of the existing crawl space and reframing it.

So, I went with this. They engineered this to handle small openings, for various heights, and it does do that. It is not designed for high volume use. So, if you plan on accessing your attic a lot, I would look for something sturdier.

I rated it a 4 because the instructions were not always clear, and when I first went to open the ladder, one section would not slide open. The plastic end caps had been installed incorrectly at the factory (left cap, and right cap were both in the wrong ends).

Ordered this level special delivery cause I needed it to replace my older cheaper level that would not turn on. Opened the box and found the batteries already installed, set it flat on the kitchen counter and it would not turn on.

Installed new batteries, same thing. The vert level light would flash when in horizontal position and light when level was in vertical position. Other than that, no lights or actions. Looked at the manufactures tag and the date of manufacture was 12/2015.

And yes I turned the pendulum switch on.

We use this level to mark stakes for reference in concrete planning, and foundation fill grades. It can also help when a ( plumb bob ) is needed, Perhaps for layout of lights on ceilings. Another use is during installation of doors and windows in a room allowing them all to be same height.

This model has a transport lock to protect the self leveling pendulum mechanism.

Great piece of kit, easy to set up and use. Ideal for transferring levels for footings drains etc. The detector is an essential component as it gives an auditable alarm when laser line is detected, and indicates up or down to desired level.

The downside is that these are old stock manufactured more than 3 years ago. This raises issues with battery life and warranty. Batteries age over time and potentially reduce their charging capacity and therefore the running time of the tool between charging.

A good price but still an old tool.

Every time I walk close to the unit, it senses vibrations in the floor and stops to re-calibrate. This contributes to the accuracy however, I think its too sensitive. Also the laser is not very bright.

Even in indoor use, if the room has big windows allowing a lot of natural light, the light is very dim when the unit is on full rotation. To increase the brightness of the laser I have to put it on “sweep mode” which means that the unit sweeps back and forth in approx.

1/8th circle. not make making full rotation. Since the batteries are not having to propel full rotation, there is more power available for the laser. This design is terrible because if you have to work all the way around the perimeter of the room, you have to keep advancing the laser position, which means that you have to hold down the button on the remote.

sometimes the laser doesn’t advance at all, or if it does, it goes right back to the previous position or it just shuts off altogether. REALLY Frustrating!!!!!!!!!!! Bad circuitry design.

We had one of the first lasers from Spectra Physics many years ago (35). This unit sets up automatically and levels itself without adjustment. It is a visible laser AND works with a portable target. So if you are pouring concrete you use the target, and if you are installing wainscot, the visable line on the wall works great.

From foundation to finish, this is a great machine.
