This cleaver seems to continue the great tradition of Old Hickory knives. Old Hickory knives are cutting tools that last beyond your lifetime. They are not fancy, or flashy, they are just simple, well made cutting tools that once you buy it, will last , and last, and last.

Just purchase a quality sharpening rod to touch up the edge occasionally and your set for a lifetime of cutting. My father was a professional meat cutter for over 40 years, ( after a few years in coal mines) and he used many knives, some were high dollar German made knives.

But one of his favorites was an Old Hickory. He used it six days a week, and it was sharpened so much and used so often the blade is half the width, but he still used it till his death to bone out beef and pork.

This knife’s use would translate into decades of home use. It hit bone hundreds of times a day, and he would just hit it on the sharpening rod a few times and it was ready to go. I still have this knife and use it today.

The knives that come in this 3-piece chef set with blades covers look very impressive in the package. They are heavy in weight in the package so I was concerned they’d be heavy in my hand while using.

That concern was lifted once I opened up the package and took one of the knives into my hand. The handle is solid and I feel confident that it won’t slip while I am chopping or slicing. I like the serrated knife for cutting tomatoes and crusty bread! The smaller knife is great for cutting up veggies and small fruit.

It is always best to hand wash cutlery and dry immediately so I haven’t been able to test these in the dishwasher. It’s nice to know that they are dishwasher safe though. I recommend this knife set which is reasonably priced.

This cleaver is everything good! It is pretty and well as a great vegetable cleaver. The cutting is precise and clean. Even the box it came in is so elegant.

Like the sturdiness of the blade and the ability control while using. It’s the right size for daily needs.

Precise and the perfect size and shape I needed for work. I debone, and cut fish multiple times a day, every shift. Extremely comfortable and glides beautifully through the meat. Would highly recommend!.

Knife is amazingly sharp and the blade is pretty. Tip is an extremely fine point that I was worried about breaking, but I used it for a couple hours so far (finishing up butchering a deer) and didn’t break it.

Only potential issue with it is that the blade is rigid. It’s often desirable to have a bit of flexibility in a fillet knife, or even a lot of flexibility. If you want a rigid blade, this is the best knife I’ve even used.

If you need flexibility, then something like a Victorinox might be a better choice (though I can’t find a smaller fillet knife made by them).

Typical of Shun knives. Very sharp. perfectly shaped handle. Design is a bit different than most Western knives of this type, but very easy to get used to. Preforms tasks presented with little effort.

I’m rarely disappointed with any of the knives from this brand.

I heard about the Jero knives while at a hunting show. I researched online and saw the good reviews. Was happy that Walmart had them. The blades are sharp and hold a good edge, but the handle is what is awesome.

It is like a lightly textured rubber grip, but the shape of the handle is comfortable and fit my hand really well. I used it to process a few deer for me and some friends.

This is a 4 star knife. If the screws could be tightented in handle it would be 5 star. The bad reviews are hilarious. Yes , the knife needs to be sharpened out of the box. That is an adavantage of the blade you will sharpen it regularly.

That is because of the type of steel it is made of. Yes the blade will rust if not taken care of properly. Again that is the type of steel it is made of. THIS knife is not for those who do not understand it or are willing to learn how to care for it.

Great knife easy to sharpen high quality. If your not into maintenance and extra care stay away from these knives. They need to be cleaned and oiled before putting away. That black one you see in the photo was given a vinegar bath for 12 hours it brings the magnetite to the surface and creates a rust barrier but I still oil it.

It’s amazing that there is still a company making carbon steel knives!! The overall quality is not pitch perfect and that’s expected with the affordable price paid. The while knife looks like it was made a century ago.

How cool is that? No more hunting the antique stores looking for worn out ones to use when you can have a new one with the vintage quality. They are fairly sharp new, but I am very picky and like to have a razor sharp kitchen knife so I plan on grinding it just the way I want with a sharpening stone.

The carbon steel knives hold the best edge. Yes they will rust and stain, and If that bothers you then buy stainless and suffer slicing your veggies and meats with a dull edge. Besides a little iron in your diet is good for you.

If you havent tried a carbon steel knife you might want to consider trying one!!!.

I bought these a few months back after my fiance and I moved into our new apartment. I was looking for a great quality, neutral looking steak knife that could fit in with our other flatware. Owning other Wusthof knives, I know how great the quality of their products and was not disappointed with this purchase.

In fact, these knives have exceeded my expectations and I get some many compliments from guests. My sisters have even purchased their own sets after using mine. Highly recommend purchasing these if you’re searching for a new set.

They even come in a beautiful wood storage box.

I finally broke down and invested in a set of high quality, forged, Solingen-made steak knives. I struggled to choose between Henckels and Wsthof, as both offer excellent products. I settled on the Wsthof Classics because I found a crazy low price on eBay.

The difference between these solid, weighty, well balanced knives and the cheap serrated knives I have used for decades is utterly astounding. These knives don’t saw and rip the meat, they actually slice it cleanly, and with minimal effort.

The handles are extremely comfortable and fill my large hand, but are still quite comfortable for my wife’s dainty hands also. The weight of the knife (forged, with full tang) helps the knife do the work.

It slices cleanly through steak, ham, chicken, turkey, whatever I have tried. I LOVE them. I fully expect to have to touch up the blades from time to time, just as I would with any other kitchen knife.

The Wsthof steel is usually around 58 HRC hardness whereas Henckels usually runs around 57 HRC, so the knife will hold a reasonable edge while still being fairly easy to sharpen (I ONLY use whetstones these days, other types of sharpeners have usually done more harm than good to my blades.

) Remember, you are usually cutting your food on a ceramic plate which is harder than any steel, soI usually try to ease up on the cutting action when the blade is almost done cutting. My only serious criticism of any of my Wsthof knives is that the attractive red label on the handle wears off very quickly.

This is a shame, because I think that label looks really spiffy. But hey, we all need to gripe about something, don’t we? I’d buy these again in a heartbeat, and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to step up from cheap serrated steak knives into something quite a bit nicer.

Everything feels good about these knives. They are super sharp, and slice through steak like butter. I used to have serrated steak knives, which I now realize were tearing through the steak, rather than a superb clean cut.

And we can keep them sharp because they are not serrated! They have a comfortable handle, and a slightly heavier blade, which gives them a larger feel and look, but they still look terrific on the table setting and still fit in my knife block.

My husband and I received this as a wedding gift, along with a carving set. This set is fantastic in quality and presentation! We get complimented every time we pull this out. Not only do they look nice, they work very well! We have not had any issues with premature dulling, and they work reliably well with both soft and gentle meats.

Always impressed by Shun products quality and consticency. My husband is a Chef and this is the only brand we buy/use in our household. After using japanese steel like this, you too will find it impossibly to purchase any other knives for the rest of your life.

The sharp blade of the carving knife make slicing meats a delight. It cost me a lot more than what I’m used to but after seeing the difference the benefit far outweighs the cost

Light but balanced in hand, and the thin lade allows this knife to easily cut, slice, and dice almost any food. The knife provides good control in fileting, and response nicely to stone sharpening. The design offers comfortable handle, and agile blade make chopping tasks much easier.

The blade offers reasonable edge retention. Noted that the weight of the knife does not match the toughness and versatility offered by the Wusthof. Considering the price, this chef knife is a good value over all.

Light weight, Well balanced, and VERY sharp! I haven’t taken it to work yet but from unboxing and first impession I am very pleased. Knife is well balanced and light weight with a comfortable grip. Out of the box it is razor sharp and comes with a sheath for storing/ protecting it when not in use.

Packaging is very nice with a magnetic lid and felt lining which would also make for nice storage or gift box. I will update my review after putting it to use in a restaraunt environment but my first impression is a good quality knife for the price.

Very sturdy knife. Looks great, nice box suitable for gifting. Knife is heavy (for a bread knife) and does not flex or veer off course when slicing. NOT dishwasher safe, but knives shouldn’t go into the washer anyway.

The blade is very flexible which is exactly what I was looking for……I don’t know why, but somehow having a blade that’s dead in your hand doesn’t feel right. I feel great joy over this one and will gift them to my friends who all complain about dull knives.

Maybe we are so old and technology even in this department has changed. The price is certainly within giftable reach. I’d rather have 1 of these than 5-6 different sized ones I cant cut a banana with.

I know you’ll love it. It’s kind of woman sized. Somebody with big slabs for hands may think it’s on the small side. I can’t wait for tomato season, but meanwhile I’ll cut my little Campari tomatoes with it.

IšverstiShow in original languageWe found the Rada knives at a farmers market originally and have bought several sets as gifts and added to our initial set over many years. At the price of these knives you expect only so-so quality, but I have several very high quality (expensive!) Japanese kitchen knives and they don’t cut any better or hold up better than the Radas I have.

The Rada knives brushed aluminum handles are better in hand than the wooden handles of most Japanese knives. The blade thickness as well adds a lot to their performance, and yet, I have never had one even think about bending.

They hold edges well, too. I added the 13″ French Chef’s knife to the original set and it is my go-to knife. I found the handles of the standard paring knives to be a bit small so I bought the Super paring knife and between the paring and the chef’s I do the lion’s share of all my kitchen work.

I’ve read reviews that list Rada Knives in the top of American made knives overall and I believe it.

This is the ONLY paring knife that came close to the knife in size as the one she uses now (mine!). It has a plastic handle and carbon steel blade. I wash it by hand because I want it to last as long as the one we already have from 30 years ago.

I have larger hands, but it works for me, also. I do not like huge blades on a paring knife. The handle must be larger than the blade to function well. The handle of this is comfortable, the blade is sharp, and makes paring fruits and vegetables easy!.

I managed to get enough sliced for everyone’s sandwich and I decided that I needed a bigger knife, a really “BIG” knife. I went to ebay and my first search was for Old Hickory knives. I ordered the 14 inch butcher knife.

When it arrived a few days later, it was indeed a “BIG” knife. I must say that I wasn’t very impressed with the factory edge. It was so, so sharp, but not REALLY SHARP. I remedied that situation with a mill file and 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper mounted on my vibrating sander.

Sharp???? THIS KNIFE IS SCARY SHARP NOW!!! I’ts sharp enough that I’m scared of it and I told my wife to be VERY careful IF she even used it. Now remember, it’s 1095 high carbon steel. NOT STAINLESS STEEL, IT WILL RUST.

Just wash it well and put a little oil on the blade (I use olive oil) and wipe it almost clean. This will inhibit rust. I highly recommend Old Hickory knives. They’re built of quality materials and will last long enough for your kids to pass them to their kids.

This is the second 14″ O. H. I have bought, the first was to use as a field machete. As a machete it was, again, just awesome. Ontario. Respect.
