20 Best Kibble For German Shepherd (2023 Updated)

My husband and I started using Royal Canin German Shepherd with our female shepherd, Hera, in 2020. Prior to that, we were on another brand of food. Since being with Royal Canin, her coat, nails, overall body condition is at the best it has ever been! Her teeth have very minimal tarter build up, her stools are consistently normal and for a breed with stomach sensitivities, this food does not cause stomach upset.

Anybody who has German Shepherds, we highly recommend this food! This food has everything a well balanced diet should to accommodate the needs of this breed! To date, we have not added any glucosamine or other joint supplements.

The kibble size is great, it is appealing and she looks forward to eating her meals. Our new puppy, who is now 5 months old, is currently on Royal Canin German Shepherd Puppy. We could not ask for a better food to best support all of our dogs’ needs.

I have a 6 month old English cream golden retriever and ever since he was introduced to dry food with the breeder, he was on puppy science diet formula. However, for a few months recently we’ve noticed extremely runny poops and more diarrhea episodes, in the middle of the night! After discussing options with our vet, they recommended this food.

Hands down it’s the best! It’s extremely expensive but I’d much rather pay a little bit more for my puppy’s stomach to not be upset and be waking up at 3 am cleaning up diarrhea! He also LOVES this food and actually chews it as well, which helps with digestion.

I thought it was funny that most of these reviews talk about their dogs stool going from runny to soft, and now I can add to that list! If you’re thinking about switching to this, I highly recommend.

There is also a higher fiber content in this food compared to other puppy formulas.

My Boxer/German Shepherd mix, Merry, is now almost 6 months old. When I got her at 9 weeks she was being feed an expensive “designer” no grain food. Her stools were loose and smelly. The vet then told me that dogs are having cardiac issues that are suspected to be related to no grain foods.

So I changed her food to another expensive food, slowly weaning her off the first food only to create gas problems. (Boxers are known for their ability to clear a room!). Years ago I raised an Irish Wolfhound puppy (who lived 10 years!) on Iams large breed so I started Merry on it.

No gas, smaller stools, proper growth rate, happy puppy, and dog food bill cut in half.

The worst thing you could feed your dog. Because I was inexperienced and never had a dog, I went with the most affordable option. This has so many ingredients, so much fillers which keep your dog full but have 0 nutritional value, and don’t have good ingredients.

Like instead of whole chicken and all it’s meat, it uses bones or other parts like gizzard which is cheaper. My dog had a lot of gastro issues while on this. Please spend a little more money on a better product for your dog if you value their health and well-being.

I adopted a six month old puppy on May 1st of 2020. She was prone to UTIs and had been on antibiotics almost her whole life. My vet said I should change dog foods and she gave me a list of the top three dog foods that she recommends.

Iams was at the top of the list. I immediately purchased Iams puppy chow. I have a two year old German Shepherd who also eats the Iams puppy chow. Since feeding my new dog the Iams she has not had a uti.

Also she is super healthy and her coat just gleams. The shepherd (also a rescue dog) is very underweight but also does well on the Iams puppy chow. I also have a 13 year old black Lab and I switched him to Iams Healthy Weight.

This food has been like an elixer for this dog!! His coat is super shiny but also he acts like a puppy at times. This food has been so good for him. I buy all my pet food at Canadian Tire. It is always so fresh!!.

I work at a Central Bark doggy whole care facility and our company swears by Stella and Chewy products. My pup has tried everything from Wild Weenies to Meal Mixers alike. I was very excited to try this kibble as I had heard many good things about it and the ingredients list was superb! However, the first day of transitioning my pup to Stella and Chewy’s Raw Coated Kibble, my dog refused to eat the ¼ cup I added to his regular kibble.

I watched him intently to see if he would enjoy it because he is a ferocious eater and eats mostly anything but had been getting bored of his regular kibble. He was clearly struggling to eat this kibble because it is so hard.

He could barely chew it when he tried and eventually just ate around it. Even though I bought the smallest bag, I still dished out $25+ for this kibble and now have an entire opened bag that only has ¼ cup taken out that my dog cannot eat.

My dog is not a senior either, he is just under a year and has strong healthy teeth. I’m sure that the oven baked process adds some extra harness to the kibble but after trying to break a piece of kibble myself, I found it extremely difficult.

My 3 year old Morkie used to vomit almost once every week and have (what we think) stomach pain. At that time, he was taking Gastrointestinal Royal Canin (he was known for pancreatitis and Royal Canin was recommended by his Veterinary) However he still had digestive problems (vomiting) while on the Vet food.

I decided to give Stella and Chewy’s (Raw Coated Kibble Grain Free) a try. At first I had mixed the old food from the vet with the Stella and Chewy’s one. But the 2-3 days later my dog would only pick the Stella’s kibbles from his bowl.

He now has more healthy stools and is vomiting a lots less! Usually it would be 1-2 a week and since we switched I think it happened once in 2 months. Honestly get away from the grains! They have a high glycemic index and your dogs really dont need sugar.

I try to give my dog the most « raw » but affordable kibble from the pet store and I don’t regret it. It’s even a cheaper than the vet’s food.

Many residents in our community have pats, mostly dogs. Few months ago a young lady from Mutts Co visited our community and introduced different products that their company has for pats. That was outdoor event and many of our neighbors were with their pats who were treeted with the samples of many different treets.

Our dog Oscar loved one particular “Stella amp; Chewy’s Grass-Fed Lamb Recipe Raw Coated Baked Kibble Dog Food” that he highly recommends to his brothers and sisters.

As I review this I’m sure something will change with my GSD, but for now. He seems to really like this food, for now. He gets board of the same thing so I try to rotate, which is hard since he can only tolerate certain foods.

No poultry (which this is free of) lamb, fish is questionable as is beef but not enough to not feed. No strong, or any for that matter, odors. Doesn’t make him smell like some foods will. And by smell, some will just make him put off an aweful odor.

So all and all, for now we’re both happy. I might try the canned pork to mix in sometime. Also, unlike other Zignature flavors he’s tried in the past this one does not make him drink excessively. I do get concerned with the amount of salt in some of Zignatures foods.

Used to use Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison for long time but in recent months received counterfeits of it. One came from chewy and they immediately replaced it. Then another time they were out of it, I bought it some where else and I have no clue what it was made of, he kept looking at the bowl then me repeatedly but started eating.

Of course I will never buy Natural Balance again. My dog can’t eat any poultry so venison seemed a good choice because he loves venison. Now with the Zignature he kind of likes it but usually vomits after eating it.

Was really hoping this would be the one. Poor dog, now I have to find something else and maybe go through this again.

My dog has horrible yeast infections and needs a low carb food. This came highly recommended as one of the lowest carb foods available. Chewy website has a completely different, and lower amount, of food suggestions than what the bag says(3 cups on Chewy OVER 5 CUPS according to the bag).

The company’s website is the same as Chewy so we used those recommendations. No issues switching my guy but he really doesn’t seem to like this food and will basically snub his nose until starving before eating.

Will continue to try the food to see if there’s any positive change in his yeast issue though and hopefully he’ll start to enjoy it more.

Ordered this to try for one of my dogs. This is our second 40lb bag. She hasn’t been super thrilled with it and usually dumps it out of her bowl in protest before eating it. Her BMs have been very crumbly, though not dry, so annoying to clean up after.

The biggest thing is this has really cut down on her gas, which is why I ordered a second bag. Not sure yet if I will order a third bag when this is done. It seems very inconsistent in quality. I included photos of the crumbly powder that everyone else seems to find too, but also included a picture of the kibble from the first bag and the second.

First bag is larger darker and cleaner, while the second has a smaller kibble, covered in crumbs and also has a greenish hue. Not sure why they can’t seem to control the consistency in product since this seems to be everyone’s complaint about this food for years now.

In trying to find a healthy and budget friendly grain free product I settled on CANIDAE Under the Sun Grain-Free Lamb Recipe Adult Dry Dog Food (40 lb). I expect to find some settling, but the first bag I received had at least a quarter of the bag was powder.

I even went through it to make sure there wasn’t any bugs in it that may be causing it. I had to moisten the food because of all the pwder when the dogs ate it. I chalked it up to it just being that particular bag.

Then the next month I received the next 40 lb bag and it was just as bad. I have removed this item from my autoship. For the price of this food, my dogs should not have to eat dust. I wish I had researched this product more thoroughly, I would have found that I am not the only that has experienced this problem.

I love shopping with Chewy and will continue to but, will not ever order this product again.

I first ordered this food 2/2021 and started auto shipment. The first bag was fine. The next bag showed up 3/2021 and like other reviews said, when I opened it, it was covered in dust. My dogs eating severely decreased.

I kept pushing the next auto ship out because she we still had so much left over. The next(and final) bag came 6/2021. My dog is far from a picky eater and I’ve never come across a food that she wouldn’t eat but now it’s 11/2021 and I still have a huge bag of this stuff sitting in my garage that I don’t even want to donate to my shelter.

They definitely need better quality control. We threw away the open bags of this stuff, got a different brand and now she’s back to eating her normal amount.

The ingredients changed summer of 2022. I started my dog on this brand years ago for the probiotics and holistic factor as I did the research and found the ingredient list to be high quality. Post Covid I understand things have been changing on many levels when the bag weight was decreased from 30lb to 28lb.

Unfortunately the bag label also changed and as I finished the old bag happened to notice the kibble was significantly drier and smaller. So I looked at the label and found variances although the bag says nothing about a new formula.

Probiotics went from 31million CFU to 10 million. New product added taurine. No iron on new label but ingredient list shows Iron Proteinate (same as original and still 9th ingredient from last; so I can only assume there’s no less than 275 mg), new has no vitamin c, more egg than barley, and a couple other variances.

Due to lack of transparency and visual quality variance, I’m personally inclined to doubt quality of manufacturer as it’s clearly not the same. I’m still buying this for my dog but looking around. Im not saying this is horrible food.

I purchased intentionally at onset in lieu of adding probiotics to food. 10 bil CFU is standard, so the new food does provide the daily allowance. I’m on the fence why they wouldn’t indicate there’s a change and for not labeling iron as a mineral.

The way the ingredients list changed doesn’t seem like a big deal but when I look at quality, I can see noticeable difference as to something I may not give my dog. It looks grey instead of moist, rich and nutritious.

For these reasons, I suspect the nutrition label isn’t telling the whole story. Also, you’d probably not notice a new volume weight because the bag doesn’t point out/ advertise *new size but does list it on the bottom.

The price is still the same, and effort went into changing packaging so the 2lbs is barely noticed. Chewy CS confirmed the size change moving forward, when I inquired. I guess it’s up to interpretation if these are concerns but wanted to share what info isn’t being shared transparently from the manufacturer and misidentified nutritional content labeling.

I usually swap bags and never would’ve known this formula changed had I not saw the kibble was dry. I actually thought it was a bad batch of food but guess this is the new normal for Dr Gary’s. Photos show quality and mind you that the old large kibble recipe was at the bottom of my food container and lost some of the moisture.

The fresh out of bag nuggets looked almost wet but you can see what you were getting considering how healthy it still looks, months after opening.

We are SO happy with this formula of food! It has been impossible to find kibble that is above 550 kcals for my poodle who can not keep any weight on. This kibble was the perfect match though. It fit my budget better than the competing brands with similar kcals and formulas and it also was a win for my SUPER picky poodle who sometimes will go many days without eating if he doesn’t like the food.

He scarfed his first bowl of this down with no problems! We are going to pair it with the freeze dried food we use and hopefully this will be the food to FINALLY put some healthy weight on my scrawny boy! I’m also very pleased with how well it was manufactured.

The bag came very tightly sealed and has a zipper seal so it can be kept right in the bag and stay fresh! We will be buying this food again! It’s a lesser known brand (honestly hoping it stays that way so I don’t have to go on crazy searches like I do for our old foods that constantly were out of stock!).

Love the quality of this food, love that my Great Dane loves it. the packaging is the BEST I’ve ever seen. all great except the kibble is so small my cats can eat it! This is Giant Breed specific dog food.

why cannot the kibble be giant sized too! Ugh. anyone with a large jowled dog, I’m sure would agree this small kibble is a pain. one look to the left. all over the floor. one look to the right. all over the floor!!! Unfortunately, my Dane will not eat off the floor.

well that is Fortunate in other aspects, anyway he eats his food from a standing dog feeder and therefore more distance for it to fall from his mouth and more momentum to bounce off his rug onto the hardwood floor which gives it just the right platform to bounce, tumble and roll all over the place! But with all that and it’s a big pain, picking it up and it’s like stepping on a pebble when you are barefoot and that just hurts but with even that, I continue to buy.

because all the good in this dogfood out weighs all that! Its truly the best food that my dog loves that I have ever found. Now my dog isn’t really picky. He will eat what I give him at least a little or when he is just really hungry but he gets excited for this food even still now after feeding him it for at least 4-5 months now.

At first this food seemed like a godsend, but then the honeymoon faded away. My shepherd works hard almost all day, he has some lazy bouts but the boy loves to be active. His weight is constantly in question, even his vet has discovered how intense his metabolism is.

Well, we decided to give this food a try and had high hopes. For the first few months, we noticed some bulk, but then it started to slowly just vanish. He now gets 6 cups of this food and not a single difference in weight, he’s shedding worse than ever before.

I decided to have his vet contact a nutritionist and they weren’t happy with the food. “Lots of fillers in this, really wouldn’t recommend”. I also posted it in a few dog food groups and they too didn’t even suggest this food.

It almost made me feel bad for trying it, I still dont know if it’s just my dog that this isn’t working for. This kibble didn’t even make a top feeding list and with that, Im reluctantly writing this so maybe if anyone else isn’t experiencing the 5-star benefits, you aren’t alone.

We bought a second bag just to see if anything at all changed, nope. You can still see his hips and he’s started to act like he’s not getting fed enough. His shedding is now super ridiculous even with 2 desheds a month and a soak.

He’s not a picky dog and has never been but now he’s just nosing pieces around and eating smaller amounts. His stools aren’t very solid, more loose, dark cause of the food. Vet checked him over and he’s cleared of any issues, they concluded it’s the food.

My boy is a healthy 5-year-old shepherd, lean but muscular and fit. Back to the drawing board.

Finally…FINALLY!!! After a year of fighting with my dog about food, this one is a winner! My Corso is 1yr/3m old and I have been battling with him over food since I brought him home. I have tried everything.

From cheaper foods, to prescription diets, to high end, to limited ingredient. He either continued to have diarrhea or he would practically starve himself because he just hated every kibble. He couldn’t gain any weight even though his hip bones were sticking out and his spine was out.

I know a lot of Corso people feed this food to their dogs so I figured, oh what’s one more food to try. Doubt it will make a difference. Well…he has finally started to gain healthy weight!! He is very high energy and this food works great for his needs.

His coat is finally soft again and plush like. Stools are firm! He also clears his bowl every time! Yay!!! Thank you Inukshuk!.

My boy absolutely LOVES this stuff and would devour it straight out of the bag if he could. And he also appears to have gained weight already despite only being on it for a few days. This is a good thing as he was looking a bit ribby lately and I was hoping the food would help.

It has. He is a young, extremely active, pit mix that’s hard to keep weight on sometimes. So this food is definitely a win for us. He loves it as do I. He can be somewhat picky so I’m glad to have found a food he loves and one that helps with his weight.

And it’s a huge bonus being able to feed less too! And no supplements needed! I was spending so much trying just about everything between supplements and different brands of food, etc. and nothing worked until this.

I started my now 7 month old German shepherd on Purina pro plan because I liked the mid range price and his vet recommended. He has always had diarrhea issues and itches more than a pup should. First thought it was a chicken intolerance so tried the pro plan sensitive skin and stomach.

The big concern I had is my dog turned his nose away from his proplan food. He of course ate it eventually but he never was thrilled about it. I thought he was being a snob but Tonight I witnessed my gsd pick out the Purina pro plan pieces to eat orijen.

I am without a doubt certain animals know what they need better than I. I think Purina has too many filler ingredients or the grains are just too much for him. Of course every animal is different and I wish mine was the kind that did great on the cheaper brand but he just isn’t.

Worth every penny to have a food my dog enjoys and I have no doubt his digestive and skin issues will improve.

Our 60lb mixed breed (picky eater) puppy is just about the age where he should no longer be on puppy food, and I spent a while trying to decide what to feed him as an adult. I’m skeptical of totally grain free food, and this sounded like a good potential option.

Although our puppy is not a working dog, and the Dr Tim’s food selection guide might suggest we should go with the more “house pet” variety, at some point you have to trust your instincts about your own pet.

Our dog has always been both very energetic and very lean. He goes to a dog daycare once a week, and we can’t count how many times a dazed looking employee has asked us at the end of the day, “Does he ever slow down?” Nope! Welcome to our extremely full lives with a large, enthusiastic, joyful bouncy ball of a dog.

So. I chose this variety instead. So far he’s doing extremely well on this food. I poured some into a small dish and set it aside an equal dish with his previous food, and he gave both a sniff before diving into the Dr.

Tim’s first. Given that he’s a fairly selective eater, we breathed a sigh of relief at the first hurdle passed. Next we integrated it into his diet slowly; he’s had some issues with gastric distress in the past, but this has been totally fine.

We’ve had some issues (with his puppy food) with him getting bored at mealtimes and wandering away, but due to our other pets we cannot free feed. This food is fairly dense in caloric and nutritive value, and I feel good about him not being under nourished if he eats a smaller portion some days.

All told, it’s a win so far. We’ll continue to feed him this and update if our experience with it changes.

HuskyJax, you had mentioned in your 1 star review your dog had soft stools close to almost being diarrhea. In my experience with change overs from other foods it can be very easy to overfeed the Pursuit if you are using the same volume of food versus the weight.

Pursuit is denser and has more calories than some foods so using equal volumes can easily lead to overfeeding and the dogs cannot digest too much kibble. They will eat it but often it will escape the digestive process because too much food speeds up the transit time of the food through the intestinal tract and is then sent to the colon.

There, this undigested food will pull water and lead to diarrhea and/or soft stools. So, what I try to convey is to go easy when transitioning and feed less than you have been and slowly increase the amount fed to maintain solid stools and good weight.

Sorry the food didn’t work out for you. I think the food smells good, personally. Dr Tim.

Good ingredients and Dr. Tim’s seems like a good dog food company, but my Doberman just didn’t love it. We cycle his foods regularly, usually alternating between any two foods at any given time. Usually he gets really excited when we introduce a new food.

With Dr. Tim’s Pursuit, he never showed much interest and would only eat it when I mixed it in with his other dry food or a few treats. He would still eat it, but he showed a lot less interest than the other foods that we cycle through with his diet.

Otherwise, good ingredients and we were hoping to make this a part of his regular food rotation.

I have been switching the foods I feed our pups every 4 to 6 months or so. I have been doing this since I really don’t trust much of the dog food industry. We have 2 French bulldogs Who are very much food driven.

I must say that I am very pleased with my pups on this food. When I have tried to switch their diets previously to some kibble products they are usually interested in it for a couple of weeks and then after that they have no interest in it.

This has not been the case with tundra and they are actually very happy when I give it to them and it has been about 8 weeks now on this new diet. Their teeth are healthy and their coats are nice and silky on it.

I have had poor experiences with other food where their nails and coats were dry and brittle. I have found the opposite with this food which is a relief. They are a bit gassy on it but they are frenchies and that is a tough problem to fix.

For some reason I think it’s the beans and the peas in certain kibbles that cause them to be gassy. They certainly aren’t bothered by it and their stools are great! I am going to try a slow feeder with them to see if that helps at all.

The main reason that I purchase this food is that I really love the ingredient profile being mostly protein. The protein list goes on and on and on at the top of the list. What really caught my eye was that there were actually organ meats added to this.

That made me extremely happy. This food contains much more protein than other foods on the market hence the price. To me worth spending a little extra for the longevity of my pups of you can spare it.

I also do cook for my pups and actually they were on homemade dog food prior to thus but I needed to take a break as it is alot of work. They have been on this food strictly for 2 months which is a sufficient amount of time to post this review.

I will likely go back to homemade dog food when I have some more time but it’s nice knowing that when I can’t do that they can rely on this option. I also think kibble is great for their oral health so i will always do at least some of that throughout the week.

My cats like it and they have lost weight with this an exercise however I see lots of legumes (peas, lentils and beans). I guess these are used to make the kibble more consistent and use these instead of grains so to market grain-free.

But lentils have high carb levels and carbs are sugars. Legumes release carbs slowlier than rice or wheat but they do have carbs. In the analytical composition of the packaging I see no reference at all to sugars.

However in other cat food where potato starch is used instead to make the dry food consistent, they do include the sugar % This is the reason my vet prefers that I feed our cats with Virbac W1 (1% sugar stated on the packaging) than Orijen.

I would like to stick to orijen but it is true this remains very unclear. Besides legumes contain phytic acid (potatoes do not, only lectin) and cats do not have the enzyme to break it down. I would like to know what is the research behind Orijen’s decision to use legumes.

I was so so happy when I found this food. I loved that it included ground bone and cartilage and I noticed a big improvement in my dogs soreness (she also takes supplements) and energy. The last couple bags my dog has needed major coaxing to eat it, she also has been more sore lately then she has been and has been chewing her paw pads and legs constantly.

After going to the store and seeing they raised the price by $14 dollars per bag I was upset. I was more upset to see the formula has been COMPLETELY CHANGED. It’s not even worth what it costs before, let alone now $100 a bag before tax.

This is now no longer as good and my dog won’t even eat it. I’m am beyond upset that I just paid $100 for a now mid grade dog food formula. Sadly it’s now time to change to something new. I’d pay the new price for the old formula, but not this.

Also, the ingredients list is NOT updated online for petco. The bags they are currently selling has a completely different ingredient list then what’s listed here. Do not purchase this food, it’s no longer worth the price.

When I first brought home my standard poodle puppy at 8 weeks. I was feeding him Nutro. Nutro has decent puppy food recipes but they changed their formula. Once I learned that, I wanted to find a pet food that not only met the salt test (quality ingredients listed before salt) but was also affordable (like Nutro).

I transitioned to Orijen which is high quality but surprisingly, a lot of their vegetables appear after salt on the ingredients list (plus it is super expensive and for an active standard poodle that will weigh 70 lbs as an adult, this can equate to a lot of money going to his food bill).

I then looked into Earthborne (which has many vegetables and fruits before salt) BUT if I can afford to feed my puppy quality food for a cheaper price, I will. Pro Pac met the mark. My puppy (who is now almost 11 months) thrives on Pro Pac Ultimates Chicken Meal & Brown Rice Large Breed Puppy Dry Dog Food and I have more money in the bank so my best poodle buddy and I can go on more trips around the country together.

He is an active, healthy, muscular male standard poodle that is living his best life and I couldn’t ask for more.

We rescued our now 10 mo Plot hound mix when he was 5 mo and he was eating a different brand and very thin. I switch him to this large breed puppy formula because I liked the ingredients list. He loves it and has filled out nicely since the switch.

I do add to the kibble with meat and veggies and fruit as well. I will be switch to the adult formula when it’s time. Love this brand.

So I have two dogs. Lupo is a boxer and Daisy is a pit bull german shepherd mix. Lupo get an upset tummy really easily which will give him the worst case of stank butt and Daisy has allergies that will make her lick and itch like crazy.

Trying to find a food that matches both of their needs and won’t break the bank has been a long journey. I finally decided to try crave and I am so glad I did! I don’t normally write reviews but this food deserves it! My dogs can’t get enough of it! I always put food in their bowls before I let them back in from going potty.

With other foods they would sniff it maybe take a bite and eat it throughout the day. With crave however they rush to the bowl and finish it within minutes! I have to be careful not to let Lupo in before daisy because he’ll starting eating out of both bowls! Lupo no longer has stank butt and Daisy isn’t licking and scratching her hair way any more! We tried a couple flavors and they prefer the fish flavor.

If your thinking about trying this food don’t hesitate! Your doggos will thank you! The only down side is they don’t sell bigger bags! I hope that changes in the future!.

My senior dog M is super-duper allergic to just about everything. She hasn’t always been like that, but developed her allergies around 9 yo. We switched her to salmon based kibbles her allergic furry sibling was already on (PurinaOne Sensitive systems).

M tolerated them just fine for a couple of years, but then we had to switch to a different brand (Sam’s Club Exceed Salmon Grain-free kibbles) also for a couple of years, until she stopped tolerating them as well.

I mean – bloody vomit all day long. Sorry. On a whim I tried Crave White Fish & Salmon Adult Grain-Free Dry Dog Food (found it on clearance in a store), and M has been eating them for a couple of years now with minimal reaction.

She cannot have anything else, be it dog treats or human food, but she tolerates Crave kibbles fine for now (she is 15 years old). I hope it stays that way.

WARNING: Tried this with my boy “Zero” for several months. My dog was not wanting to eat this brand… but i tried. Was feeding Pure Balance but my dog would no longer eat that brand because something changed, and he was not having it.

Then I tried Crave and this food started causing my dog food allergies big time! Head shacking, ears infected, red eye with watery discharge crap, itching, excessive hair shedding. Took my boy to the vet and was advised to immediately stop feeding this food to my dog.

My veterinarian gave my dog a shot and ear medication, she recommended that I switch his food to “Purina One Smart Blend”. Been feeding for a week now and he runs to his dish at feeding time and eats everything! Time will tell if this resolves his food allergy issue.

My boy has been eating Hill’s Diet food products for most of his life. He was eating Prescription Diet Metabolic and Mobility for a few years, but feeding time was always a chore. He wouldn’t want to eat it unless topped with boiled chicken breast pieces or canned prescription diet food.

It was expensive enough that I hated wasting food (because he’d eat around it), but as it was prescribed, I didn’t want to not follow his vet’s orders UNTIL there were “supply-chain problems” and that food became extremely expensive and unavailable.

I took advantage of that inability to acquire the more expensive prescription diet food and switched almost very abruptly to this slightly-less-expensive food. It’s the only time that I’ve seen him eat dry food voraciously just for the taste of it since he was an actual puppy and ate to please me.

He’s five now and knows what he wants and has no problems expressing himself when he’s not happy. This food makes meal time less stressful. I love hearing him crunching on his dry food, but I also know that I can trust the brand for healthful and nutritious meals.

At first, I worried about abandoning the prescription diet because it has the added supplements for his arthritic joints. But these newly-formulated options also have the Glucosamine and Chondroitin that the vet recommends and, just in case this formula has less than what is recommended for therapeutic levels, he is still taking the supplements with MSM as well.

That, he does to make me happy; he eats this food out of pure joy. Is it the Lamb and brown rice? I don’t know. All I know is that I am not throwing away food anymore.

The food has done an amazing job of clearing the plaque and tartar of my dog’s teeth. Unfortunately, the food has only been able to clear the tartar and plaque on one side of her back teeth. I don’t believe this is due to the food, but rather that she chews the food on one side of her back teeth.

As much as the food has worked it did, however, take some experimentation to get her to eat the food, so here’s some tips and tricks to get your dog to eat the food. 1. Serve the food in the mornings as their first meal of the day (they will have no choice but to eat it.

) 2. Serve the food with some of their favorite wet dog food. (They will be familiar with the wet dog food and it will entice them to eat the new food. ) 3. If your dog is a picky eater or has sensitive teeth, you can add some water and microwave it for 10 to 15 seconds.

(Depending) 4. If you’re desperate you can add their favorite wet dog food and microwave it. The smell of the wet dog food will get very strong that it will make them curious to the new food. 5. When microwaving and adding wet dog food be careful, don’t make the food too soft.

The idea of the size and hardness of the food is that it takes your dog longer to chew which will have your dog use their back teeth. 6. Rotate the food with their regular food. So far these tricks have not affected the effectiveness of the food.

My senior dog gained weight and was having constipation issues. Even senior formulas have too many calories for her. My vet recommended I put her on a diet food of my choice. Not only would this help her loose weight, and keep it off, but the extra fiber would help her constipation troubles.

For me, it was a choice between this and Purina Pro Plan. I choose this food as it has about 300 cals per cup as well as having a good fiber content. Simply cutting her portions down more wasn’t helpful as she would simply be consuming too little nutrients and feel hungry.

My dog loves the taste of this food. It seems to smell ok to me (for dog food). This food will make your dog have massive poops, but that is great for my dog who needed the extra fiber. Her issues were beyond pumpkin.

After a transition to this food she is very regular. My dog has lost weight after one bag. She is currently almost 3lb down. She wasn’t massively overweight, but her ideal weight is probably about 62-65 and she was a hefty 70! Weight loss in animals can be slow, but even a few pounds makes a massive difference.

She already looks leaner and has more desire to excersize. I’ll probably keep her on this food long term once she is healthy and bump up the serving size to maintenance.

I have 3 cats, with one of them being very skittish and usually scared away from his food by the other 2. He normally won’t eat until they are both done no matter how hungry he is. I always have to follow him around with his bowl of food, trying to get him to finish it, because I know he’s hungry and wants it, but he is intimidated by his brothers’ moves on his food.

(And, no, feeding him behind closed doors doesn’t work, because he’s still scared off by his brother’s trying to reach his food under the door or the cries outside the door. It’s been a challenge, what can I say.

) Not with this food! I just watched him stare down one of his brothers, then bat at him when his brother tried to move in on his bowl after cleaning out his own bowl. It startled the heck out of his brother, I can tell you that! Normally, I give them one large can or 2 small cans of food per meal.

They just scarfed down 6 small cans of this food! It is like a soupy tuna, similar to Mediterranean Harvest, but smaller pieces and without the veggies.

My cat can be fairly picky, and oftentimes the foods she turns her nose up at are things that I would as well. I feed her a lot of wet foods from the Weruva line, but this was my first experience with their Truluxe brand as Chewy was having a sale.

Upon opening the can, it immediately looked appetizing and smelled much like a can of grocery store tuna. There is quite a bit of gravy as well, mixed in with large chunks of fish. She also seemed to love it, which is probably the most important thing.

I would likely buy it again if it were on sale, though the non-sale price is too steep for me.

Have 3 cats and fostering 2 rescue cats. One is the least pickiest, least finicky cat I’ve ever had. When I set their food down they all crowd me with glee. 2 of my cats maneuver themselves strategically to attempt to be in the prime location of their food- in the center.

But not with this. All 5 look at me with incredulous eyes saying, “Really, again?” I knew it was a bad choice when they all walked away as soon as the food was set down. What really gets me is that a 6 ounce can only has 2-3 oz.

of tuna so you have to feed them ~3 cans to amount to 6 oz. of tuna. And for the price, this isn’t ok. All my cats love the Truluxe Mediterranean Harvest and I was hopeful this one would be a hit. Alas this is an expensive miss to bare.

The dog seems to like it. Frenchbulldogs can have sensitive digestion issues. This product has no ill effects. So we are happy to keep him on this.

We always buy this product for our dog, so we know it is good.

Super croquettes

I buy this food as it’s the only thing my dog can eat – she has megaoesophagus. We order in bulk for in store pick up but every time we collect the tins are damaged. It’s every single tin that’s dented, even those in the centre of the 12-pack, so the damage looks deliberate.

One tin had burst this time! The lid had come away from one side and the food was mouldy. It could have made my already poorly dog sick due to the courier negligence. We will now buy elsewhere as in store staff said it was normal for tins to arrive damaged – the couriers were terrible.

Not only is the price good but it came quickly and was delivered just outside my door by a very pleasant young man. It has saved me having to get it from a shop which would not only have cost me more but with the situation the way it is it has its risks going there.

I will definitely purchase from you again and my neighbour is considering it too as his elderly father has a dog and is vulnerable so this way would be perfect. As for the product itself although my dogs aren’t fussy, they really do enjoy this product so much more than others they have tried.

Because we buy pets to love, we love to make them happy. My little dog always loves this dog food. She sniffs at most other brands and often then either eats a tiny amount, walks away or ignores it completely so I need to bin it but when she realises I am opening the pedigree jelly dog food she gets excited ,can’t eat it fast enough, then licks her bowl clean.

It’s good to see her enjoying her food.

My dog is low energy and overweight. I’ve bought him this chow for almost 3 years per the vet’s recommendation and he’s done well. Eliminated his skin irritations that were food allergy related. I’ve cut down my dog’s chow serving to once a day to help with weight issues.

Well, the Pro PAC company has changed their recipe this year due to a recall. About a week ago, I finally ran out of the old chow recipe and started my pup on the new one (new bags). Every night for the last 4 nights, my dog is pacing my room at bedtime, panting and staring at walls.

I mentioned earlier that my dog is low energy…he LOVES sleeping and he loves bedtime in his dog bed. The fact that he’s now acting restless and strange during his typical bedtime hours, really concerns me.

The only thing that has changed in his life is this chow (the new recipe he started on a week ago). And the fact that he’s behaving this way only at night and his serving comes to him in the evening, I suspect this new recipe is the culprit.

I’m very disappointed that the recipe and kibble has changed so much. We were customers of Pro PAC for years but as of tomorrow, we are no longer customers. I will be looking for a better chow option ASAP.

Ultimates is not the same recipe as Pro Pac was. I contacted the company to ask if it was only new packaging. Their response: “In our Adult Chicken Meal and Brown Rice recipe (now called Ultimates Adult Chicken Meal & Rice): We removed – White Rice, Peas, Dried Egg Product, Apples, Blueberries, Cranberries, Carrots, Spinach, DL-Methionine, L-Lysine, Taurine, Yucca Schidigera Extract, L-Carnitine, Beta-Carotene, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (Source of Vitamin C) We added – Ground Rice, Rosemary Extract.

I have really been struggling with my Lab puppy Annie. When I first got her she had giardia and Coccidia and was sick for like a month. She had to have 3 or 4 different rounds of antibiotics. After she was all done she had a food intolerance to the puppy food she was on at the time Diamond large breed puppy Lamb and Rice so I switched her.

She continued to have food intolerance to the puppy foods so the vet told me to do chicken breast with rice and plain yogurt for a week and she was doing well on that. When I tried to introduce puppy food she would get diarrhea again.

I tried Iams and she did a bit better but not 100%. They I thought well what the heck this pro pac may be worth a shot. My other lab is on the lamb meal and Rice one because it was one of the only non grain free foods I could find without any kind of chicken.

Anyway my baby is doing so well on the pro pac and now has 100% hard stools. The food smells great slightly fishy so I know she is getting good oils and she gobbles it down. It’s a nice dark color kibble with nothing in it that shouldn’t be.

Thank goodness for chewy. com through this whole process they were amazing about refunds when a food didn’t work for Annie and were very concerned about her and finding the right food for her. They simply have the best customer service and business ethic I have ever seen.

They truly care about your pets. I get Christmas cards and my Lab gets a birthday card from them every year it’s amazing. I can’t say enough good things about them. Anyone struggling with digestive issues with their puppies please try pro pac.
