I totally Love this coat. It is everything it said it was. I went out on my patio in 39 degree weather to try it out. Sat out there for an hour, warm as a bug. It is very windy in my backyard. We have common ground going into woods, this coat really cuts the wind.

It is Perfect!.

The item was delivered before the time stated, very good. But the item was way to big thinking that he would be wearing a shirt or sweater under it he was drowning in it. I wish it would have said runs big in the add but it didn’t so now I have to do a return.

I would really like this in stores so one can try it on in person. I do hate buying on line for this reason having to return items.

I have one of these coats and it’s really nice to have during the fall months with the detachable vest. Wear it alone or with your favorite jacket or hoodie. Or in the cold winter months here in Pa. When we are getting that lake effect snow and wind from close to Erie Pa.

So either season fall or winter don’t forget your Freeze Defense.

I’ve been on a search for the perfect winter jacket for my self as living in the northwest it gets cold and wet, I decided to go with this freeze defence 3 in one coat ,ordered it and it arrived 4 days early and WOW I’m amazed how well built it is I’m very pleased with my purchase and the communication with this company is top notched.

This is a comfortable all-purpose coat. The omni-heat is not as warm as down, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I can walk to the store, unzip when I arrive, and not overheat or feel overstuffed like I would with a down parka.

This winter (coldest day so far 16F) the coat has been warm enough over just a T-shirt while walking. That’s a pleasantly light feeling. Some reviewers complain that the sleeves are rather long. Not a problem for me as I have long arms.

I like the cuff snaps. When cinched the cuffs can go inside gauntlet gloves, and when uncinched, short gloves can go under the sleeves. Either way, the sleeves do not gap if I raise my arms. The armholes would be snug on me over a thick sweater, so a little more space there or preferably pit zips would be a nice addition.

The chest pocket on the outside is roomy for my phone, and I like being able to access it without opening the coat. Things don’t fall out of the upright lower pockets as they can with slanted pockets.

So, lots of good points, but some design critiques for the hood. Two inches more space at the back would make it a lot better. Right now if I cinch it, it puts tension on the back of the coat, which is annoying.

The lining does keep my ears warm. The hood’s fur strip tends to gap between the buttons – snaps at 1″ intervals might work better. And, this is a very minor nitpick, was it really necessary to put orange Velcro on the back of the olive coat’s hood? The other colors don’t have contrasting Velcro.

All in all though, a nice warm coat for winter weather and I’m a fan of omni-heat.

When my zipper broke on my trusty old winter coat it took FOR. EV. ER to find just the right one to replace it and this is IT! It runs true to size and is a slim, flattering cut, but not overly fitted, so I can wear my normal size with a sweatshirt underneath without feeling like I’m going to bust the seams.

It’s long enough to keep my behind out of the wind and is quite warm without being heavy or bulky. The heft of it is just right to feel like good quality without being overly burdensome and the lining is so silky smooth it goes on like buttah – no fabric sticking on fabric when you put it on.

I love the big pockets that actually have room for things AND close to keep them secure. One of my favorite features of this guy is actually the hood because the perfect hood is hard to find! It’s not too big or small and the faux fur trim is removable, which I love because I’m not normally a fur girl.

And I discovered that if you have the faux fur trim attached you can flip it forward for extra wind protection. It has a double zipper, so you can unzip the bottom and it’s long enough to need that for sitting or taking long strides, but the double zipper is the only thing I’ve had a bit of an issue with on this coat.

Sometimes it’s a bit sticky and takes a bit of effort to get both zippers on far enough to work. Otherwise it has been perfect for a cold, Midwest winter. Personally I find it a bit too warm if the outdoor temps are above freezing and I have a hard time shelling out $200 for any article of clothing, but lucky for me I got a wicked deal on it and I’m loving it!.

I cannot vouch for the performance of this jacket for warmth as I do not plan on keeping it. I do own several other omni-heat products, and I would say they are great for retaining warmth without the bulk, and more breathable than my Columbia jacket with just regular lining.

It is roomer than the usual sizing, in my opinion. I think this is great because I think it is expected that you can buy your usual size in a winter jacket, but be able to fit at least a heavy sweater inside and still be able to move! I wish this jacket had pockets from the side that is easier to slide hands in (and line them with flannel), but I did like that there are large pockets that are secured with snaps.

I also liked the length of the jacket. Having a jacket that covers the bum and top of the thighs really makes a difference in a cold prairie winter! What ruined the jacket for me was the removable faux fur trim for the hood.

It sticks, out at the ends and you have no way of tightening the hood around your face. The faux fur was really cheap and came flattened and I don’t think the material is going to be “fluffable” and is thin to start with.

In this case, it would’ve been better to have no fur trim, and just have a string or cord that allows you to tighten the hood around your face. I also disliked that it went on sale for $30 less just a few days after I bought it! Also Columbia – I’ve put in my return info on your website correctly multiple times and it doesn’t recognize my order.

I’m pretty chapped about that, because now I have to phone, but couldn’t because for some reason, Nov 25 is a closure date for the company. Grr.

I purchased the Blizzard Aerolite Parka, Blizzard Aerolite Bib Pants and Blizzard GTX Mitts from Sitka to use duck hunting on Prince William Sound in Alaska and Pamlico Sound in North Carolina. The season in Alaska was brutal this year with constant driving rain and temps in the 30’s making for some long days.

The blizzard gear kept me warm and dry and blended in perfectly with the Alaskan landscape. I would highly recommend this system if you are going to hunt in severe weather where staying warm and dry is paramount.

Those of you on the fence about this jacket should go for it. Just got back from a duck hunt in a blizzard and temperatures raning in the teens. I had a merino base layer and a hoody on and I was warm and dry.

Being from ND we know something about parkas. This is a good attempt, but misses some key features, and some features could be better implemented. The good, it’s cut well to allow mobility, and it has enough room in your normal size to layer.

The zipper is good, especially being able to zip up from the bottom for getting in/out of vehicles etc. Material seems durable, no surprise there, reflectors are a plus. Now for the misses. The hood needs to be more adjustable, there is velcro in the back to adjust the height of the hood, but it needs to be longer down the back allowing for the hood to be pulled back further.

The cuffs have the same problem, the velcro should allow for the outer cuff to cinch down further, doing so also allows the user to secure the hood from flopping around when not in use (nothing more annoying than working in the wind with a hood flopping over your head when you don’t want it to).

The waist cinch is 2-3″ too high. The snap closure pockets are worthless with heavy gloves or mittens on you will never get them re-snapped, all pockets should be heavy duty velcro. The exterior vertical chest zipper pockets outside should be taller, there’s no getting a gloved hand in them.

The interior pockets should be deeper with a taller zipper. The lower side pockets should be lined thicker and on both sides not just one to better provide warmth. Total misses: All parka’s need a cinch at the bottom of the jacket, not just the waist.

This keeps wind from blowing up inside the jacket, huge miss here.

Outstanding coat. Owned for 3 months……. It does what is says, and what it does best is Blocks Severe Fast Cold Wind like nobody’s business. It’s Heavy in weight due to the tough quality long lasting materials.

Love all the front zipper pockets, as it gives me a piece of mind my belongings will Never fall out. Front hand pockets are Hugh and have a nice large opening allowing me to use them with my extreme Carhart Gloves comfortably they are also fleece lined to keep your hands warm if you forget your gloves behind.

Smooth interior coat lining makes it a breeze taking on and off. Love the 3m reflector location on front and back for outdoor day or night time visibility when dealing with oncoming car traffic. This jacket stores a lot of EDC gear while keeping all of your carry items very organized.

Product runs big in size…so consider going down 1 size when buying. I am 6ft 250lbs and the XL fits soooooo perfectly…. I tried a XXL and it was sooooo big, XXL I RECOMMEND FOR SOMEONE 280LBS-320Lbs in that 6 foot range.

I have worn some 15 Carharrt Traditional Arctic Coats over the years. This is one of the best I have owned in this similar style. It was very warm and wind proof. I like how it sheds water, instead of soaking it up like the cotton duck does.

The coat is less bulky with the 3M insulation than the arctic coats. I usually wore out the pockets carrying tools and the end of the sleeves would get stringy. I fully expect the Cordura fabric to hold up extremely well to wear over cotton duck as they make tool bags out of the same type of fabric.

The only cons are too few front pockets with a single middle snap instead of 2 snaps and a thin to the very bottom of the coat wind elastic cord that is internally sewn in. If you tighten the cords up you have the 2 cords tangling down with no great way to tie them up.

Overall though a really great coat these con points aside!.

Havent had a chance to really try out the cold weather ratings yet but I was very surprized by how light and comfortable this coat was for a 60 below rated jacket! Looks nice and feels great! I did order one size larger than what I usually wear just to be safe and I think I made the right choice but i do prefer a little extra room.

If this holds up to its temperature ratings i am ordering matching bibs for sure!!!.

Got home today and had the jacket on my porch. I immediately opened and put on. Little heavier than it appears in the picture but it feels like you’re in your own little environment. I live in Ohio and have worn it the past few days of 17-35 degrees and I haven’t felt the cold in the slightest when I’ve only had a T-shirt on under the jacket.

granted it’s still pretty warm outside. I plow as well so I’m curious to see how it performs when I start moving around when I’m shoveling and getting in and out of truck and being out for hours on end.

Will check back after that but love it so far. And it looks pretty slick!.

Seems like the perfect coat! Whether I’m driving or standing in the wind and snow I stay the same temperature. It doesn’t heat up unless I’m exerting myself then the zipper comes down and armpit zippers too.

I had a different Refrigiwear jacket before and the shell was very stiff, this one is soft and flexible. I would even say that the product description was a bit modest and didn’t fully cover the features of this jacket.

I haven’t been able to stop bragging about it to everyone I know.

I had been searching for a decent winter coat for this year. I hadn’t really had a good winter coat I was trying to go cheap until my son told me about RefrigiWear. My son is a cell phone tower worker and has used a few different brand of coats.

The buying process was very smooth, the choosing process was a little harder as there are so many options to choose from. Although the products are mainly aimed at refrigerated industries, construction, and outside commercial activities my family and I have used the RefrigiWear products during our daily activities.

My experience with your products during my employment in a food plant made me a believer of staying warm while you work, and also while you play at home or anywhere cold. My wife loves her new parka as it keeps her warm everywhere we go.

So beautiful, the color perfect. Warm, comfortable, water proof, pockets are amazing, length is perfect for long boots. Material is luxurious, not cheap product, dries fast, and was at -0F for 2 hours cleaning neigbors and my snow.

Didnt get cold, or feel a thing, my face wantes the same love my body was getting, next on the list face mask.

But giving only 4* because the hood is way too big -useless , you won’t be able to see anything. I think the hood is really important for rain and cold, therefore wouldn’t recommend it. Exchanges for Regatta-their hood are perfect size.

Coat fits great & looks just like the photo. True color. Feels warm haven’t tested it in cold weather yet.

I’ve been wearing the jacket since I bought it a month ago in -1/+3°C temperatures and it’s very warm. It has a tighter underlayer around the wrist area so the arms don’t get cold. The hood is warm and sturdy, doesn’t flop over your forehead.

Originally I ordered a size XL (fit assistant recommended size) and it was definitely too big. L was just right so if you’re between sizes go for the smaller one. If you have very wide hips, I would recommend going for the bigger size if you’re in between since it’s the tiniest bit snug around the hips.

Overall would recommend! For reference, I’m 1. 65m tall, hourglass shape, usually wear a size XL.

This is a winter weather jacket, almost a ski jacket. I already have this is in oatmeal from years back and wear it daily. Its been punished with mud, rain, snow – you name it, this jacket can handle it.

It hasn’t let in any rain to date. If it gets mucky I throw mine in the washing machine and it comes out brand new. Its warm, practical and goes with everything. Its initially got a stiff feel but it softens quickly.

This jacket runs large. I’m a size 10 and S would have been the right size for me. Its very warm, has the right amount of packets and fastenings, comes down over your butt, cuffed sleeves to keep in the heat, padded inside and a generous hood.

I would have kept it but the khaki colour was a lot more of a dark GREY than green. If dark grey suits you, go for it!.

Bought this to replace a beloved old parka I’d had for years. I’ve had my eye out for some time but couldn’t find anything. Then finally saw this one and I’ve actually chosen to wear it instead of my beloved old parka on multiple occasions, which is saying something! Anyway it fits great, is really warm and feels good quality for the price.

I also love how long it is, feels cosy. Only reason I haven’t given it 5 stars is because I’m super fussy and would prefer that the fur came right around to the top of the collar (like my beloved old parka did, so when it was done up you looked kind of like Kenny from South Park!).

Fur detaches by the way, but I haven’t worn without. The zip is well hidden and stays attached fine.

I am impressed with the quality of this coat. I purchased it for ice fishing in PA and it does a great job keeping me warm and blocks out the wind. I need to purchase the matching bibs next year when they get back in stock.

On the coat keep in mind that they run large. I normally wear an XXL but returned it and got an XL instead and it’s still plenty big for layering.

The top outer pockets are not very usable due to how it is designed and small size but all of the other pockets are very usable. When right out of the packaging it is very stiff and will take a couple of weeks to loosen up.

This coat is very warm and will keep out the cold and snow/rain. If it is anything like my other Guide Gear coat it will hopefully last for years, my other one lasted for almost 10 years and only had to replace it when the pocket linings tore.

You also cannot beat the price for what you get.

I’ve gone through several “waterproof” coats that always end up soaking in the water after seeing only 20-30 minutes of moderate rain. This is not those coats. This coat keeps you DRY. it is very adjustable, has more than enough pockets, and was designed with an ample amount of thoughtfulness to the user.

It is durable, and fairly warm on it’s own with a t- shirt, but even warmer the more layers you add on. I give this coat 10/10. P. s. I am 6’2″ with a thin frame and the size Medium had more than enough sleeve and torso length.

This jacket is unlined and is unsuitable for weather that is colder than 35 degrees. It is windproof and waterproof, but it is lacking any lining that would make it a cold weather jacket. Guess what? I bought it for ICE FISHING, not for wearing indoors.

That is why I’m unhappy with this product. My old Ice Armor suit is magnitudes warmer than this. This is fine for a early spring/ late fall jacket. Definitely not for what it is advertised for.

Used for 1 season well didn’t make it that far… entire crotch seam tore out one day from simply sitting down! The whole seam tore right in half very poor quality and they were not warm to begin with I switched to striker.

Clam really isn’t what it used to.

I must say this jacket and matching bibs made me nice and cozy on the ice. I was warm but not sweaty. I had on a long sleeve tshirt and this parka. Bottoms were the matching bibs and a pair of fatigues and that’s it.

Got them both on sale and will never need another set!.

My husband has worn this jacket on a regular basis since it arrived. The navy color is a bright navy which very nice. The jacket is very, very warm, and great for below zero windchill weather. It is also, longer than most parkas.

He wears it to shovel snow, and go for walks on very cold days. It is comfortable and designed for winter weather. It has a hood as well as warm collar that has a storm flap that protects the front of his neck from the cold.

This coat is very warm. When I received it the zipper to the hood was broken so the hood is useless. Seeing we were in a cold spell I wore the coat for the day. At below zero windchills with winds over 30mph the coat amply stood up to the cold weather.

It’s definitely a winner for the cold but no hood is the reason for the 3 rating. Probably should be lower but it’s effectiveness against the cold bought it a middle rating from me.

I use this coat as an “Everyday” coat. Walk the dog, Go to the store etc. On the plus side, It is lightweight and warm. Blocks the wind well. Appears to be assembled well. On the minus side, The zipper is stiff and too long, going all the way to the bottom of the coat, making it uncomfortable sitting in the car for example.

It should be a 2 way zipper or a shorter one. The side pockets should be lined with a flannel material for hand warmth.

I bought this last year in the Regular XL. I was an 18 at the time. It didn’t close unless I really pulled it. Especially with heavier tops like a sweater. I have lost weight this year and am a big 14 or typical 16.

The XL fits me now. I still wouldn’t call it big though. All my other size 18 coats are big on me this year. I am 5’8″ 195lbs. Not a big chest, but taller build around my back. More apple shaped than hippy.

I would size up if you are slightly between sizes or even if you just want the room for heavy tops. I do like the coat this year! It is very lightweight while still being warm. The hood is a little slippery and likes to fall in my face, but I only wear it for short periods (like walking through a parking lot or something) so it is fine.

I REALLY wish the fur were removable. I just don’t think the black fur is that pretty. I have a older coat with lovely fur trim that I would like to swap, but it seems like a big sewing project to attempt the change.

So I live with it. I did brush it with a natural bristle brush to try to make it more fluffy or something, and it helped a little. I do appreciate the double zipper, but rarely use this feature. If I know I will be sitting soon, I will just use the snaps rather than fussing with the zipper and then trying to unzip it from the bottom.

I love that there are both. It isn’t waterproof, but the nylon shell does repel snow and some light rain for a short while. Overall, I really like the lightweight nature of it and that it isn’t as “puffy” as some down coats, but still is warmer than wool.

I am happy that it fits me this year!.

I bought this as a main winter coat, as it seemed described as something that could cover a variety of winter weather. I particularly was looking for a hooded coat so I wouldn’t have to carry along a hat.

There is no way to close the hood. No tie, no toggles. Even if you can get the hood to fit well**, wind will blow in around your neck. It could potentially blow the hood off in a strong wind. Yes, they say the hood is “adjustable”.

It is! That’s usually an Additional, extra feature. That’s a toggle that’s on TOP of the head,in the back, that adjusts the size of the hood for different head sizes or if you want to wear a hat. Great bonus feature.

But it ISN”T how you close a hood! There is no way to close the hood near your neck/under your chin. I’ve got their Squall parka from two years ago, it has toggles at each side of the front of the Neck that actually tie the hood closed, like a conventional tie would.

Basically, they made this as a decorative hood. It’s not going to be functional enough. I thought I”d get something attractive and functional with that hood. It was a boon that it adjusted to head size or if you wanted to wear a hat under it.

But it’s just attractive and not functional, and I don’t know what they were thinking to put on the adjustable tab on top and not a means to close it. I’m sure they don’t’ do that with men’s outerwear.

Everything else about the jacket is nice. The Large is true to size, with room for layers underneath. There’s no internal drawstring, which I didn’t expect. It could be cut a bit more shapely (with a slight waist) but instead it’s a bit boxy.

I have a LE puffy vest (the 600+) that takes me down to 25 degrees with a sweater. I needed something with sleeves so ordered this slightly different version. Out of the package I was worried because it was SO thin (actually wrinkled!) May be true to size but slightly large on me, okay if I want to wear extra sweater layer underneath.

Pockets are HUGE and deep. Easily holds phone, keys, various small animals, and a sandwich if that’s your thing. Especially cold day in Chicago yesterday — 11 degrees, sunny — so I wore it for a walk over a single thick long-sleeved shirt, jeans, gloves, hat and earmuffs.

Walked for about 45 minutes. Only part of me that got cold were my legs in the jeans and my hands in the gloves. Perfectly insulated in every part that this coat covered, and even had to take off my scarf because I got too warm.

Bought one of the longer ones for my daughter who runs hot, and I know she’ll appreciate not having to layer up to walk to school, and especially the ability to easily cram this coat into her backpack or the top shelf of a very small locker that traditional coats won’t fit into.

1st off. Cassandra and Miranda in customer support are the best. Answers were unscripted and spot on. Afforded me the chance to cancel order. I didn’t cancel on my First Ascent Peak XV down jacket. Had a feeling that this coat, at this price, was worth the wait.

Delivery was 2 days earlier than projected. WOW! NOW THAT IS BLUE! Well built. I am not a mountaineer or expeditionary but the winds north of the Adirondacks and in eyesight of the mighty St. Lawrence River are no picnic.

Needed a tough coat that was rated for Arctic conditions for winter maintenance at our berry farm. Needed to be ready for coming winter winds snows. 1/2 off the MSRP made it well worth buying. 1st impressions are not as important in my judgment of gear as toughness.

I will put my final star on or off come Spring. We will know after pruning 1000ft of raspberry and blackberry canes in February and March. “Burly” is a better description than “Bulky” in this coat. When goggles are necessary for snow removal a good hood is critical for vision and communication.

This hood kills it with better than normal peripheral and able to accommodate multiple headgear applications. High today around 20 degrees Fahrenheit and the coat made picking up after the high winds yesterday a breeze.

Would love to see a snowskirt on it but not a deal breaker. Have doubts about the Cordura shell but let’s see how she holds up. Thanks Moosejaw.

I purchased this Jacket for snow skiing. This will be my 56th year skiing. Been rocking to Puffy Style since the 70’s growing up in Colorado. I was looking for something a bit burlier as my body doesn’t have the circulation it once had.

After researching for 6 months during the summer, I selected the First Ascent. Prices was half retail on Moosejaw and showed up with 2 weeks. I am 5’9″ 170 with a 44″ chest. I am always between Medium and Large often going with Large, because don’t like feeling constrained.

Selected the Medium and love the fit. This Jacket is super comfy. Favorite feature is the hood. How it fits around my neck and face is perfect. Love the contrasting zipper and the low key graphics. Another key feature for me is the exterior material.

My Pataguchi and Spyder, which I still love, both have multiple tears from tree branches. I am excited to see how this jacket holds up. Seriously considering buying a second one.

Admittedly, I bought this 5 (?) years ago and had yet to wear it until now (January 2022) simply because I hadn’t been out in THAT kind of cold. We’ve had a brutal cold snap of late (-20C, windchill -32C) so it was time.

And it didn’t let me down – wicked warmth and great wind resistance. I bought an XL but I’ve lost ~45 lbs since then. Currently 5’10” and 182 lbs. if I was buying again based on my current build, I’d buy a L.

As it is, I try to wear a layer underneath just to take up the room but it’s not required for warmth – last night I walked the dog in -18C and 45 km/h winds, wearing just a long sleeve T-shirt underneath.

Toasty warm. And based on a similarly priced down jacket I recently purchased (and returned) from a competitor, this EB jacket is a STEAL particularly when it’s on sale.

I consistently bought my kids Patagonia coats prior to this purchase. Considering my kids’ speedy growth spurts, I couldn’t justify the costs of those coats. The sales here caught my eye and decided to trust the reviews.

I did upgrade to next day after my order had not been shipped for an entire week with standard because the company (along with many others) are having trouble with staff and deliveries. I figured I got these coats at such a good price.

I bought one for each one of my sons (13 y/o that is in 3rd percentile weight, super skinny and 25% height and my 9 y/o who is 98% in both height and weight, husky). I decided on Large for both of them (14-16) since I was limited in available sizes and colors (one orange and other in navy blue).

I thought they would be too big but was surprised that it was right for both of them. If you were to follow the size chart, this would be a tight fit. I didn’t want them to be tight in their coats (my youngest says he has enough room to play gagaball.

I think it is because I picked the bigger size and the material of the coat allows for movement). It has down feathers for insulation but the coat doesn’t look poofy at all, and the coat’s outer material looks to be water repelling.

I even tried it on to see how warm it is (it is very warm!), and I can attest that at 5′ 3″ tall and at 140lbs I could put their coats on! The faux fur on the hood is removable (my older one prefers it off and my younger loves the look of the fur).

Even my daughter who has a quality Northface winter coat wanted their coats and tried taking it for herself. I can’t attest to how long they will last and if they will easily launder, but so far we are very happy with these two coats.

If you can afford it, use next day shipping during the holidays.

I bought the Stone version, which is a lovely pale, barely there grey/white/ash color. I love the color and the fur trim is great IMO. My loves about the coat: warmth! Lots of pockets; waist can be cinched; collar stands upright easily even when unzipped, which I like and it looks great with hair up; long length; storm placket gives closure options.

Dislikes: when I cinch the waist, the elastic cord sticks out horizontal and can be seen on the exterior (I’ve tried tucking and it won’t stay in the interior pocket); unless I have it zipped, it looks kind of enormous and the hood pulls it back so the flare starts from my chest; knit wrist cuffs! Hate these with a passion because they are tight enough on me that it makes wearing my smart watch VERY uncomfortable.

Another review mentioned this and she cut out the cuffs; the sleeve length on the exterior is almost bracelet length on me, which is weird. I will be ordering a tall size to see if that works better for me.

Overall, it’s a great down coat for very cold weather.

I am a long-time purchaser of this jacket from lands end. I have purchased more than 5 of these. They have been passed down through multiple children. Last year the quality notably decreased and this year I would’ve returned it if I hadn’t gotten it at 60% off.

I will never buy another jacket from Lands’ End again. Your customers notice when you cut corners. For the quality of this jacket purchasing it at 60% off was probably about right for what it would be worth at full price.

In previous years I was able to trust the quality of Land’s End materials enough that I could let the children sled along Lake Superior with temperatures at or around zero before windchill and do winter camping.

This year’s model is of such poor quality that my daughter is wearing her sister six year old version of the same one. Which after six years of wear is a better quality than the new one I got this year.

If your kids just going to be on the playground for a half an hour it might be OK if you don’t really have winter.

This coat is fabulous! SO versatile, because of the colour. The picture of the Eggplant colour of this jacket on the Eddie Bauer website does not do it justice at all. There is a very slight blackish sheen to it that different lighting highlights, which makes it very elegant, almost dressy.

I will wear this coat casually, to work, and also when dressed up on a cold day. Very warm, but lightweight at the same time. The length is also so versatile, not too short, which would make it more casual, and not too long, which would make it look more utilitarian for very cold days.

It is one of my favourite parka from EB. The fit is just right. It leans towards slim fit side. Most parka will give me a room in belly area and it makes me look chubby. I don’t have issues with this parka.

It’s light weight. Filling power is 550 so it might not be warm enough unless you wear layers or thermal under it. I don’t usually layer at all even in winter. I’ll just wear a top that i wear all year round and rely on jacket for warmth and EB outwear does a really good job at it.

For winter, I have sun valley down. I bought this one for fall or towards the end of winter into spring. I like the eggplant color. It has a blackish shiny finish and appears darker than the photo. And it’s cute.

Quality and design is very cute. It has elastic on hood and cuffs which will prevent from cold air getting inside. There’s 2 sections of pockets inside – one slip one and one side one with zip on the left chest area.

2 more zipped sides pockets although i prefer snaps for the sides. It’s a lovely jacket. Go ahead and buy.

This Parka is perfect; I purchased the “Derp Eggplant ” Color and I love the variation in the color with light reflections. It is versatile, comfortable and warm. Can easily be worn during a light rainy day.

Also; I purchased this on sale and the price was excellent, I love this Parj and ordered a second one!!! The only thing that could make this Parka better would be a faux fur lining on the hood!! PS it does have an interior zip pocket.

Love this coat. It’s replacing a much-worn Transcendant Hoody that finally gave up so many feathers that it just doesn’t do the job anymore below 20 degrees. It’s interesting that some reviews say this isn’t as warm as the aforementioned.

I find that it is MUCH warmer. It’s got a higher fill than the Transcendant and it’s much loftier all over. it’s not even close. An although lofty, it’s not so much so that I can’t throw on a shell or anorak over it easily.

I live in Northern Minnesota where (at the time of this writing) we’re already seeing temps in the negative teens. I can wear a light fleece under this and I’m good to go for normal activities. As for the sizing, I wear a large in everything and this is no different.

I have wider shoulders and I’ll sometimes run across other products that bind under the arms as a result. I’ve yet to try on any O. R. product that gives me this issue. I will say that the Coldfront fits just a wee bit more snug around the mid-section and hips than the Transcendant, but it’s also a little bit longer, which I like.

This also makes it easier to over-layer. I also have slightly longer arms than some large jackets can accommodate, but this one is right on. I haven’t found the zipper to be especially annoying at the chin/neck area as others have mentioned, but if it’s cold enough to require zipping up that high, I usually have a neck gaiter on anyway and perhaps I don’t think about it.

My only minor gripe is the lack of a zippered breast pocket. Perhaps this was to keep a certain styling in tact in that area or perhaps to keep the insulation uniform. I’d be willing to give up a little down in that area to have that nice, warm, convenient pocket for my phone or wallet.

The inner drop-in pockets are just too spacious to contain something like a phone safely. (so minus 1/2-star) As for longevity, we’ll see. but I’m hopeful of the shell material chosen for this jacket.

I like this jacket so much I ended up purchasing a second for my father, we’re different body shapes but I purchased a size large for both of us. I’m 6’3″, 210, 43-44″ chest, 36″ arm length, 34″ waist; its not quite “fitted” on me but I think it fits great and is what I was expecting (fits well enough that I can wear with just a single layer underneath or I can easily add a baselayer and fleece if I wanted to.

I’ve worn this in the mountains and to a nice dinner on the same day. My father is 5’11, 220, thicker than me in the midsection but the jacket fits him great albeit with slightly less room for layers than myself.

I think it’s now his favorite midlayer jacket as it is mine too. The jacket is suitable to wear on its own in or you could wear an upsized shell over it on really cold days for winter sports. You can also dress it up or dress it down, good warmth.

Really flexible! If you’re looking for a packable puffer this is definitely on the big end of the spectrum, I typically won’t use it in that manner, try it on and test pack it if that’s what you’re after.

As for features, the pouch pockets on the inside are a nice, big enough for gloves/toques/glasses etc but not obstructive. If anything, I wish there was a small zippered pocket and I wish the main zipper was two-way.

I really appreciate the OR logo is subtle on the sleeve and not massive on the jacket – funny enough, friends have noticed and commented that its a classy touch. Not many brands do that. We’ll see how it holes up long term! Looks to be well made.

For reference, I’m 5’3, about 125 pounds, waist 26 in, hips 34 in. Pros: Length and overall fit – it falls right above the knee for me (I’m much shorter than the model), and the sleeves are long enough to keep me warm but are not TOO long (there’s also a little stretchy insert at the end of the sleeves, which you can easily tuck into gloves).

There’s a little scrunch in the back of the coat, which gives the overall fit a bit more shape. MOST IMPORTANT: will fit an average-bulk sweater underneath without the torso or the sleeves being too tight, which is a huge plus.

The hood is nice and snug. Cons: Not warm enough for the Chicago winters. I bought this specifically because it was recommended as a good dog-walking jacket (husky mom here – he throws fits about having to come back inside between October and March, so I need to be prepared lol), and the coldest it’s been so far when I wore it was 25 degrees F, but I can’t say it actually kept me completely warm.

For the price and highest “Warmth” rating, I definitely expected more. It would be okay for typical running-to-the-car or even walking-to-the-train purposes, but unless you wear realllllly warm layers underneath, this wouldn’t be enough for anything longer than that.

Also, the outer shell material somehow seems to attract an absurd amount of fur, which isn’t easily brushed off, and that alone would not be the dealbreaker for me, but I did not expect it in a waterproof jacket.

Overall, I’m keeping it because I didn’t realize all of the above until I’d already worn it a few times and actually have a warmer jacket from a different company already, but if you’re looking for something that will keep you warm in terrible temperatures for an extended period of time, I’d keep looking.

I got this jacket for my partner as a Xmas present and it went down a treat. He has numerous jackets from other brands but has high praise for this one. His observations were how light weight yet warm it is.

Great number of pockets and extremely comfortable. It was used a lot after Xmas for walks in temps from -1 to 4 degrees. Really great value for money for a quality jacket which will be used a lot.

Purchased, ordered, arrived fine, nothing wrong with the quality of the jacket, it does what is described absolutely fine and I’m happy with that. HOWEVER the jacket has a very bad, potent smell throughout, similar to moudly cheese and other things that I cannot describe here.

I tried applying fragrance to it but since it’s waterproof it won’t really stick to it. I am embarrassed to wear the jacket when meeting with anyone and the smells is really off putting.

This coat fits and looks good, gives shapely hourglass womanly silhouette, feels good to the touch, is warm and I feel cozy in it. I like the lining on neck. It goes well over my dresses in 50 degree drizzly weather.

It gives a lovely hourglass shape, the weight is just right. The teal color is very beautiful. The lining is just enough warmth. Petite sleeves are perfect for me. I usually buy petite medium, and that size was tight over my hips so I bought petite large and this worked very well.

Its a coat that feels lived in and comfortable, cozy, without being too hot. I look forward to a bright cobalt blue, royal purple, emerald green or other lively color variety of this coat. Buy yourself one of these well made fashionable and functional pieces!.

I purchased for myself with a 10% promotion. When it arrived, I loved the pine color immediately and knew this was a great addition to my wardrobe. I’m able to wear 2 thin layers underneath and I love how it still cinches at the waist a little bit.

I had 2 thin layers under this coat today for errands and it was windy and cold about 20-25 degrees and I was very comfortable. I wasn’t out for long periods so I don’t think this can be my main winter jacket if I’ll be outside for long periods since I live in a very cold climate but this will be a fantastic transitional jacket from fall to winter and into spring.

Love the zippers on the pockets and the two zippers on the main opening. I’ve had no issues with the zippers. Really pleased with the jacket and appreciate the green color rather than my typical black jacket.

I received my order today and I am super pleased at the quality, fit, and color (cobalt blue) of this jacket! I was searching for a jacket with fleece lining around the neck to keep me warm. Other jackets do not have this feature and putting on a cold poly quilted coat is so uncomfortable around my neck.

This coat is well-made. The fleece lines the hood, neck and body; however, LL Bean was so wise not to line the sleeves with fleece because it would be difficult to put on. I am 5’7 and the length is a few inches above my knee which is perfect.

I had read other reviews complaining about the tightness of the shoulders – I disagree. Also, other complaints about the flimsy fleece lining are not my experience either. I shopped around, and this was the best choice out there for me!.
