20 Best Internet Router For Spectrum (2023 Updated)

I am very happy with this router. I previously had an Archer AX3000 which is a dual band router. I thought I was having some connection issues, so I upgraded to the AX11000 for the tri-band. I watched a lot of gaming router comparison videos, and this router was always rated as good with similar routers winning out in most cases in terms of speed or connectivity.

I can say that I still went with this router and as a casual user that plays online games every now and then (not a die-hard gamer by any means), this router performs spectacularly. When I first set it up, I attempted to use the “smart connect” feature, which is supposed to shift connections to the best of the 3 bands for your usage.

I had to disable that feature after a few days because it doesn’t work quite right in certain parts of my house due to the layout of my home. All phones at the far ends of the house (router is in the middle) would become unresponsive like the router couldn’t figure out which band to use.

Without that enabled and connecting directly to one of the bands, it is a solid and flawless connection throughout my house. My previous router had the “smart connect” feature as well and it did not work well at all.

This one did better, but not quite well enough to keep my family from complaining about Tik Tok videos not loading. The 8 ethernet ports is an awesome bonus that replaced a 5-port switch in my chain.

I’m looking forward to implementing the link aggregation on my home server when I get time to run an extra cable. The interface on the AX11000 looks better to me than the AX3000 which uses the default blue/white TP-Link GUI.

though it really is just a theme change as pretty much all the same settings show up in both. I currently only have a couple devices that support Wifi6. I mainly wanted Wifi6 for future proofing and it wasn’t necessary considering the devices being connected.

This is not a full review of features or performance but rather something people must to be aware of as it caught me by suprise and to me is a major security flaw. If you intend to make use of the vpn feature for clients particularly those that might be untrusted, and you intend to limit device access to the router admin page using the local management feature to prevent unwanted users accessing the page then you need to know this limitation.

Those who connect and login using vpn are not considered local devices on your network and bypass your router admin local management restrictions and can directly access the administration page. They still need to login by virtue of access they can still attempt.

In addition to this you cannot blacklist vpn clients. I spoke to a TP-Link support representative and they advise that those who vpn in are not considered part of your local LAN. This is despite them having the same connectivity to other devices/resources on your LAN that are connected by wifi/cable.

Therefore they cannot restricted using the local management or blacklisting. I disagree and believe that any node whether is connected by wifi, cable or vpn must be treated the same way where you can isolate and secure resource access to those connected nodes.

To allow a back door to a client that can bypass your security configuration just by connecting via vpn is massive security risk. I would recommend not enabling vpn unless you trust all clients accessing your network otherwise this router is definitely not for you.

I needed to replace a well loved, but on its way out, Linksys WRT 1900AC router that Id had since 2014. It couldnt handle the limits of my 2600+ Sq Ft. 2 story house, and its 30+ client smart home anymore.

I looked into several different, and almost bought, a mesh wifi system, but decided to give this a try instead as its cleaner, there wouldn’t be any issues with slow down on a repeated signal from the satellites, I set this up on the ground floor of my house in a central location, and thus far Ive been soo happy with it.

I get a signal in every room of my house, my garage, and throughout most of my. 5 acre surrounding yard. The router is Tri-band (2x5ghz, 1×2. 4ghz) and was easy to set up. I have all bands named the same, and set it to smart switch the band it logs a particular client to based on its distance from the router and what will give it the strongest signal.

(ex. My phone will automatically switch from 5ghz to 2. 4ghz as I move further away from the router, to maintain a strong signal, automatically). I have fiber optic internet, and my throughput over wifi is close to 100% of what I pay for, more than double the speed I was getting with my previous router.

Finally, I have had (granted the router is still brand new), zero simultaenous connection problems with the 30+ smart home/computers/phones/tablets/etc clients all connecting to the router at once. The smartphone router management app works well to boot.

I replaced a failing Nighthawk with this router. All as you would expect from TP-Link, easy to set up, good quality and probably reliable. Overall I like it and it is a good router. The interface is clean and modern.

It has QoS which improved my overall throughput on the Nighthawk, but is managed differently on the TP-Link, so I need a bit more reading to try that. However, there are a few issues I have with it. The range doesn’t seem as good as the older Nighthawk.

An existing TP-Link and newer TP-Link range extenders don’t pick up a signal where the old one was plugged in. They need to be higher up and about 3 metres closer to the router (I checked using an extesion cord for the extender).

When I switch on my PC, it seems to take longer to connect to the Internet than the old Nighthawk, but this may be a setting that needs changing, possibly not dropping the IP address when a device is switched off? Not sure but it needs some attention.

I’m also sure my old router reported everything attached, even items with fixed IP addresses but this item doesn’t. So fixing IP addresses for printers and NAS devices means you can’t see them on the client list.

I had a go with OneMesh and a new extender (RE605x) and it didn’t seem as good as my existing extender (also a TP-Link device, an RE650 v1). I’ll have to do a bit more work to see if I can get that working as well as the old device.

OneMesh also only seems to work on the main SSID and not the Guest Network, so you will need another solution for that (I use the old RE650). Time will tell if it is reliable and I can overcome the shortfalls.

None of the shortfalls would stop me from buying this product as it will work in most larger houses, as long as the router is sited centrally on the ground floor. If you have a long home and site it at one end, then you will need extenders or WAP’s to improve your access.

I have returned this router within BestBuy’s return window. The Good: Router performance was awesome, reached corners of ~4000sq house and a detached garage without issue. Easy to use, very fast, handled upper 30 devices with 4 kids streaming class work (streaming Microsoft Teams and Zoom), teacher wife doing virtual teaching one day a week and me working from home.

The Bad: WAN Port would randomly go to “unplugged” / “disconnected” depending on where you looked (iOS app or Webpage). When problem occurred, all devices would still connect to the Archer but the Archer would not connect to the AT&T provided router (1GB Fiber Arris BGW210-700).

Note this AT&T router has been in use for months and has been feeding my pre-wired house (only bypassing it to get better WiFi range). Regardless, I swapped cables, put a dumb switch between the Arris and the Archer but problem remained.

Contacted TP-Link Support and really didn’t get that far (was told to force 1GB Full Duplex or 100MB Full Duplex). Didn’t think a 4 day old router should require that. Unplugged the WAN port and plugging back in (either side) did not resolve, had reboot or power-off the Archer.

I really did like this router and wanted it to work, but after having problems and seeing other reviews with similar issues (some reviews indicated worked great for months then WAN port failed). I decided to return and go with a different brand.

Had a 4 year old D-Link router that was beginning to show its age. Wasn’t getting great signals, also had a D-Ling extender for my Ring devices but still had a terrible signal with the extender about 20 ft from the furthest device.

Almost made my Ring doorbell and camera useless. Got the AX6000, I work in IT and judging from past experiences, I decided to wait until Saturday to install it just in case something went wrong, which usually does.

I could have done this one morning before work! Setup was flawless and only took about 15 minutes. Used the same SSID so all of my devices immediately picked up the WiFi network! I had already configured my D-Link to be an access point, installing it was simple too.

Just connected it, changed the SSID to match my old extender and my devices connected! Love the 8 ports on the AX6000, I was able to dump my 4 port switch, 1 less device to think about. One device in particular was always losing connection to the WiFi, not anymore! Super fast, easy to set up and plenty of features that I will play with later.

Oh the device furthest away from my network, the Ring camera, is now connecting as if it were 2 feet from the router. Now instead of taking at least a minute to connect (horrible when the alert goes off late at night) it now connects in a few seconds!.

The Eero 6+ AX-3000 is a 3 pack, dual band mesh wifi 6 system that is easy to set up, fast, and provides excellent range capable of handling at least a 3000 square foot house. Set up and control of the system is done entirely through an app downloaded to your Iphone or Android phone.

In my case, it was an Iphone. Set up allows you to keep the SSID and password from your previous network which had been a Velop tri band mesh system. I found this tremendously helpful since all of the 25 or so devices that I have immediately recognized the new network without additional configuration.

The first of the 3 pack devices is connected to your cable modem, etc. and is configured during the initial setup. The additional 2 devices can be configured during initial set up or any time later through the app.

I ended up using only 2 of the 3 pack devices since the 3rd one would have been overkill for my 2200 square foot house unless I wanted to extend the network deep into the backyard or my neighbor’s yard.

As I mention, I previously had a two pack, tri band Velop mesh system. This system had served me well for several years, however, I have recently acquired several wifi 6 devices and the Velop system was not wifi 6.

I have about 25 devices on my system including 4 HDTVs which I constantly stream. In actual operation, the eero system felt very quick and no buffering occurred. Range was also excellent exceeding my previous Velop system.

I have 1 gigabyte per second internet coming into the house. About 20 feet from the router and in the same room as the router, I was able to achieve about 900mbps on my laptop compared to about 750mbps with the previous Velop system.

A story below the router and through 3 walls, I achieved around 250mbps compared to 200mbps with the previous system. I you are a heavy user of video or other data intensive devices and want a network that is easy to set up, fast, and with great range, I highly recommend the Eero 6+ AX3000.

When I stopped renting my modem/Wi-Fi router from the cable company I chose a stand-alone modem and Wi-Fi router. I started with a single original eero unit and it had better coverage of my home than the cable company combo unit as the salesman had promised.

I had powerline units to repeaters all over the house with the cable company unit and when I had the single eero unit. One at a time I added additional eero units until I had 5 to cover most of my 5000 square foot H shaped home.

I was finally rid of the troublesome wireline units with repeaters. My home is difficult for radio signals because of its shape, a number of interior brick walls, metal cabinets with metal backsplashes in three rooms.

I just replaced the 5 original eero units with a 3 pack of eero 6+ units. Throughout the the parts of the house we spend the most time in we get the same fast (250-300 MBps) that we get in our den a few feet from the modem and base eero unit.

The 2 satellite eero units are in place mostly because our TIVO-Mini units don’t work well with Wi-Fi. The rooms with the satellite eero units get an adequate Wi-Fi signal for most of our needs without the satellites but being able to use a network cable to the Tivo-Minis allows us to flawlessly stream HD and 4K television.

The setup was quick and easy. I already had the app on my phone. I deleted the old network from the app and unplugged the old units. The app gives clear instructions that were simple to follow. The new network was up and running in no time.

The one thing I would do differently is keep the name and password of the old network. I didn’t really consider that by giving the new network a different name that I would have to individually log each Wi-Fi using device into the new network.

I couldn’t be happier with my new 6+ version of the eero. I have 3 units providing better coverage than my 5 original units were. Simple setup. I’ve never had a single issue with eero equipment in the past.

Problem free technology, what else could one wish for!.

Pros – Easy to setup and connect these to an existing network/modem. Follow the steps and you will be up and running in minutes without fail. App walks you through step by step. I opened the box, pulled out all 3 eeros.

I then proceeded to plug in the first one and allowed it to connect. Once it connected, I switched my lighting hub to use this device which took about 2 minutes to be added. I then proceeded to adding the next one and set it up.

Then I proceeded to do the next one and got it up and running. I did have to connect existing devices to the new “network” SSID since it didn’t transition the password from the old one with the same name.

No issue doing this process, just connect devices to the new network, even if using the same name (iphones, ipads, tvs, streaming devices) and type the password. Devices are very quick to connect to the new network in about half the time it took with the older devices.

Build quality and size of these devices make them ideal for placing around the house. We have about 2000 sq ft house upstairs plus a basement. I placed one next to the modem, another one at the opposite end of the house and another in the front part of the house.

I am able to connect devices outside on the pool deck without fail. Speeds for all devices is very fast. I noticed that the streaming devices aren’t buffering like they were on the older network “extenders”.

These can also use the new Echo devices which have eero built in to extend your wifi to various areas of a large house. Very clean and small devices are very easy to hide behind objects on a shelf or in a room without anyone knowing they exist.

I purchased a brand new DEFECTIVE RT-AX68U AX2700 wifi router directly from the ASUS website. It stopped working after 2 days! Sales support and three Sales support supervisors did NOT CARE about my loyalty as an ASUS customer, nor my satisfaction with a brand new DEFECTIVE ASUS RT-AX68U AX2700 router! These sales support supervisors DID NOT CARE in the least about my inconvenience spending hours on the phone with their tech support, and sales support.

Worst of all, they did NOT CARE about my loss of income because I CANNOT work from home without internet access! They did NOT CARE about our loss of access to the internet for all our devices at home so my family cannot watch live-stream TV, play online video games, use WiFi on their cell phones, smart watches, or use any of our IOT devices! ASUS REFUSED to send me a new replacement router while the first one is in the mail for return.

They REFUSED to give me a discount to purchase a second new router (to replace the first defective one). They also REFUSED to give me free expedited shipping to purchase a second brand new router from them.

In addition, ASUS Tech support said to return this brand new router under their warranty to receive a remanufactured (used) router! ASUS clearly does NOT UNDERSTAND that losing their Customers will BANKRUPT their company! Even AMAZON provides BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE!.

I have no issues with wifi connectivity or speed. At peak there are 2 phones, 2 tablets, 1 smartwatch, 3 laptops, 6 smart tvs, 3 video game systems, 2 blu ray dvd players, a stereo receiver, and 2 USB storage devices connected over a single story 2500sq/ft home with the 2 routers provided in this package plus a slightly older Asus router that is mesh compatible.

All but 2 video game systems, 1 tv, and the stereo receiver are wireless over G, N, or AC. Wired connections use CAT6 or equivilent. Constant gaming, streaming, browsing the web, work video calls etc, no issues.

The mesh router thats the “main” one is located close to my cable modem in one corner of the house with the other in this packet in the living room and the 3rd older router in the master bedroom. Setup is easy enough if you read the included instructions and everything else is managed through the network dashboard.

Ive been very happy with the product since having it nearly a year now. Only issues ive ever had are a result of the ISP, not the networking equipment. I consider myself an advanced user but nothing involving the setup of this is difficult enough unless you want something that is immediate out of the box or only requires a single button press.

Reason I changed my old router to this one is due the the problem of interruptions on having two PC’s running VPN simultaneously, with wired connection on one of them. My old setup was using the modem built-in wireless N router.

Everything worked fine except the VPN interruptions. The speed at that time was around 50Mps download and 10Mps upload running wifi 5 on an internet service of 75Mps/10Mps plan. After using this RT-AX82U on the same internet plan and disable the modem built-in router, the speed at the same spot running wifi 5 (since my PC doesn’t support wifi 6), the speed boosted up to 90Mps download and 10Mps upload, even faster than my plan supposed to have! And most importantly, the dual VPN connections problem solved.

I put the wired connection PC on its “game LAN port” and everything runs smoothly even with TV streaming. Coverage is also much better. Excellent router and highly recommended!.
