20 Best Home Remedy For Ants (2023 Updated)

Last year I had a problem with pharaoh ants in one of my kitchen cupboards. I ended up finding out how they were getting in, and blocked up the entry way. Problem solved. Or so I thought. They ended up coming back again this year, with a vengeance.

I did speak with a pest control specialist, and he told me that pharaoh ants are notoriously difficult to get rid of, but that I should try the bait and wait 5-7 days to see how it works before engaging him.

I am happy to say that it has been less than 48 hours since I first set out the bait, and it appears to be working beautifully. I did end up pouring some of it onto a sheet of paper, to ensure that the ants could access it.

(I was concerned that they wouldn’t be able to find the entry way to the liquid, as it is off the surface of the cupboard. ) Once they found the bait, they went on a feeding frenzy. Two days in, and I am down to about 5 ants milling about.

This is a HUGE improvement from the dozens I was seeing two days ago! If I can offer one piece of advice. trust the process. It is alarming to see the bait attracting even more ants when you first set it out, but this means its working! Resist the urge to move it or interfere in anyway, I promise you will see progress within a matter of hours!.

As the weather warmed up, we started seeing a few tiny black ants on our kitchen counter every day. I couldn’t tell where the ants were coming from. I dealt with them by squashing them. One day, though, there were about 20 ants, so I decided to get serious.

I ordered the Terro Liquid Ant Baits which arrived in a few days. I put one out on the counter, but didn’t see much ant traffic. Next day I put two more on the floor below the counter. Within a few hours I had a continuous stream of ants coming from a crack in the frame of a nearby door.

It was like something out of a nature documentary. I half expected Sir David Attenborough to show up and start narrating. The ants were all heading for the baits, crawling all over and into them. I was afraid I had just made matters worse.

Would I be overrun by ants demanding food? However, the next day the ants were gone, except for a few that died in the traps. That was five days ago, and I haven’t seen a single ant since. If they show up again, I’ll know what to do.

I tried a lot of products to fight ants on my lawn and pavement. All failed miserably! All the other products only kill ants on contact and does not kill the nest. I only tried this one the last because it is the most expensive option.

I believe it is from the USA, so there are not many sellers and more expensive. I first tried few drops on my front pavement. Ant a dozen ants came to eat them very quickly like a party. Few hours later, there are less ants in my front pavement.

When I went to bad gardens, I was amazed to see that ants went crazy. Handreds of ants went out of the nest everywhere and I can see the holes they come out both on pavement and lawn. A lot of flying ants in the air.

Some ants on the floor are in pain and dying. I put drops near every holes I can see. Few hours later, all ants are gone! Now, I can still see some ants, but much less than before. And I can see ants carrying out dead ants from their nest to stop the infection.

I am buying another tube to kill more. The 27g tube used up very quickly. This is the only product works, and it kills the whole colony everywhere, not just where you put the drops.

The ant killer works great. There is a secret to it. Put out several large drops near where you find ants. DO NOT SPRAY THE ANTS WITH ANY OTHER killer material. Just leave the gel on the count top or where ever you put it.

The ants will cover the drops, eat it up, and carry it back to the nest where it will kill the queen and others. Next day the ants will be gone and so will most or all of the gel you left out. Resist spraying the ants.

Let the gel do the job. Next day they’ll be gone or dead. Stuff works good.

This stuff is great! I first had a neighbor recommend it years ago and I swear by it! It’s really simple to use. You just put a few drops out on a scrap of cardboard (they provide you with a few squares too), place it out of your way close to a known ant path.

They will find it and SWARM it bc they love the stuff and take it back to the nest. where it kills the whole colony. Within about 36 hrs, the ants quit coming and you can clear put your cardboard piece, wipe down the area (to destroy pheromone trail and clean up any residue) and you’re done! No more ants.

I bought a bottle several years ago, used it 3 or 4 times in the first couple years i had it and rarely see ants again (which is my cue to break back into the bottle). I still haven’t finished off the bottle all these years later!.

First, a confession. I never write reviews and am very suspicious of those others have wriiten. However, this product works so well, it deserves to be praised. As others have stated, it works just as advertised.

Put. small amount down on a one-inch square of cardboard, then leave it alone. The ants WILL swarm the bait and then return it to kill the entire nest. They leave scent trails for the other ants to find the bait.

So BE SURE YOU DO NOT MOVE OR CLEAN THE AREA AROUND THE BAIT ONCE IS IN PLACE. Leave in place for the others to find. We have been using Terro Liquid for years, and have never been disappointed.

This stuff is amazing. We found ants had made their way to our dogfood, then the bread cabinet. My SIL told me about this stuff. So I put some in the cabinet and the hole I found where they were coming from.

At first the ants swarmed the cabinet and the bait. But by the next morning there was no bait and NO ANTS. I’ve used it since with the same results. I recently found ants crossing my front walk, up the banister, and across the railing.

I was asked to purchase and try the Combat Ant Killing Bait, in the 6 pack. I am now being asked to review it. Let me begin with the fact that this review is based ONLY on using these for a short time.

I can only attest to what happened immediately, and not during the 3 months these bait traps supposedly last. Read my review with that in mind. I opened my box of 6 Combat Ant Killing Baits, and immediately realized that, as advertised, there was no odor.

This is perhaps THE most important factor in ANYTHING I use, be it something to kill ants, to something to wash my dishes! I need it to have as little odor as possible. Or if it does have an odor, for it to be as pleasant as possible.

The Combat Ant Bait won me over with it being odorless. The next thing I noticed was that the 6 baits were all connected, and had to be broken apart. My first thought was to use them one at a time, for my ant problem.

Combat says otherwise, to break them apart and use all 6 at once. Okay, I’ll do that. But I can’t help but wonder if this will be a positive, or just a ploy to have me buy 6 more bait in 3 months. The box of 6 is incredibly cheap, at just $3.

79, tax included. However, the penny pincher in me wonders. This is why I don’t feel my review is quite an adequate assessment of how well this product performs. Okay, so I broke apart my 6 ant baits.

I placed one by the window, where I actually see an ant trail. For the other 5 baits, I used the box suggestions, as to locations to place them. I put one on the floor under the window, one under the other window in that room, one in a cabinet drawer in that room, and the other 2 I just randomly sat behind things The bait have a “pretty” design, though I am not sure I would go so far as to say it is attractive.

In order to get to these baits, the ants from my one ant trail, HAVE to move across my floor and walls. And I just don’t see that as a positive. We shall see, since others have told me these really do work.

I had to be careful with placement of these baits, to avoid places my dogs and cats might find them and decide to play with them. The box DOES warn that the contents are dangerous if ingested or absorbed by the skin, so use with EXTREME care and caution around pets and children.

Now, I do have 1 ant trail, that comes in through the sill of my window. The ant bait that I set there, about 20 minutes ago, is seeing action like it’s a new bar that just opened in a popular area of downtown! There is literally a line of ants waiting to get in!! They perceive this bait as being loaded with delicious and nutritious food.

They all can’t wait to take a bit of this bounty back to share with their friend and family ants, back at that scandalous ant colony. Eventually the product in the Combat Ant Killing Bait, will be fed to all ofbthe ants in the colony, from the queen ant down to the newly laid baby ants.

This is in no way nearly as sad as I might make it sound. Each one of those baby ants, could potentially start its own colony of ants, so with just 1 box of 6 ant baits, I am potentially warding off YEARS of ant related disaster! The box tells me to replace all 6 baits in 3 months.

If I still have ants, 3 months from now, I won’t be replacing these things. I’ll have to assume these baits didn’t work, or that the colony of ants I am dealing with are some new alien species, that is immune to ant baits, sent to invade earth from a far away ant planet.

Here’s to me NOT having an any problem, 3 months from now!!.

The instructions were very easy to follow. The packets were easy to separate and place. I like that the ant bait is odorless. I’m a little wary as to its effectiveness, though. I checked the traps a few times thought the day and didn’t notice any ants around them.

When I found some ants (in my house) I tried moving the traps close to the ants, but the ants ignored it. I then tried scooping the ants up into the trap, but they didn’t go inside at all; they just crawled right off.

I tried several times with three different ants. Maybe this product is only for certain kinds of ants, and not all ants? Only time will tell, but given the ants’ reactions when I placed the bait by them, I don’t think this bait trap is going to work.

So I hate having this kinda of traps because they sit out and display that your home is battling some kind of critter issue. The name is a product you tend to think will resolve your critter issues, but so far they have not for me.

They say they are child resistant but again when they are seen, children tend to bother them. Honestly I purchased the small roach traps like this a few months ago. I still have issues with them. Hopefully over the next six months, I will see the ants disappear as prompted.

I don’t hold much faith that it will work.

Idk what’s in this stuff…. well, I do because it’s on the can, but it WORKS!!! I have tried many things to get rid of flies in our home, but few have actually worked! This was our last resort before bombing the house (I didn’t want to use such harsh chemicals if I could help it!!) and it actually worked! I was skeptical because all natural products don’t usually work as well, but this one did better than anything we have tried! And it smells AMAZING!!! No chemical smell and it actually drops flies mid air, acts like a sticky barrier and actually kills them within only a few seconds!! Being made of essential oils, I’m not worried about using it on my walls/around furniture and it wipes clean away, no residue! We bought 3 cans of it at first last fall and it did the job and just ran out a few weeks ago, so these cans last awhile! I came back to order more because it’s the only thing that has worked! Being spring time and having kids who leave the doors wide open, we are constantly having a big problem, when flies want to come in with animal in the house.

It’s annoying, but that’s like with kids and animals! I found that if you spray above them, not actually on them, the most falls down and is what actually helps better to get them down better! Spraying common areas also helps deter them as well.

This works extremely well for everyday bugs, ants and American cockroaches. The German type you need to call an exterminator because they are hard to kill. The smell of this product is amazing compared to standard household bug sprays.

I spray at doorways, under sinks and along baseboards. Bugs are dead. Kid and pet friendly. I will keep this in my arsenal forever.

This is only 5% essential oils. 95% is SLS. Just because these are essential oils – different from flavorings – can be synthetics, can be stronger or not as pure as food grade etc — and smells can cause respiratory irritation or skin whether natural or not.

If it kills cockroaches – I wouldn’t trust it around my pets of any kind unless the vet says so. These are the ingredients – 0. 950% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, 0. 364% Cinnamon Oil, 0. 213% Geraniol, 0. 142% Castor Oil, 0.

069% Cornmint Oil, and 0. 069% Clove Oil. And to those who say it doesn’t work immediately -I have used some of the strongest chemicals and roaches don’t die fast – it can take 10 minutes or more. I have seen them still kicking 15 minutes later but they will die.

Course any you see -you can always step on them though I’m always afraid they will run up my leg. Keep in mind, with the exception of IGRs, and boric acid dusts and boric acid baits not much of anything kills German cockroaches – they have become immune and resistance to almost everything.

Boric acid acts as a stomach poison and they will carry it back to the nest where the others help groom it off and then they have it in their system. As each dies, the others eat them and get more of the poison.

With the baits the initial one eats it and brings it back to feed the queen and young. all will die but it’s a 2 week deal. They basically have to starve together. This is why it is good to use IGRs (growth regulators – makes them sterile) so they don’t grow up to breed.

Again. no more roaches but it takes time. If you use repellents or something that kills only the one in contact or sends them elsewhere — you will never get rid of them. Boric acid baits, dust and growth regulators are the way to go and you have to stay on it until they are gone.

If you live in high risk areas – you will have to make baiting a routine every few months. Sorry. And remember. boric acid won’t kill humans or any mammal but it could certainly make them sick if consumed too much or if sensitive to inactive ingredients.

Natural may be better than the chemicals out there. but they can still be an issue.

I have been using this for a couple of years and I’m on my 4th bottle. It’s safe around my kids and dogs and gets rid of the ants immediately. It does have a very strong smell, but I will usually try to spray before we are heading out for the day so that the smell has dissipated by the time we return.

This ant spray is exceptional! I had ants constantly coming through my balcony door for about a week. I was continuously vacuuming them. When the repellant arrived it took just one treatment and all ants were gone gone gone.

I noticed the price has increased by $3 in the last week. Totally worth it!.

I moved to the Northwest 2 years ago and began having problems with ants getting into my kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. I didn’t want to use poison and found the earthkind ant repellent product at a local store.

Works great! After 2–3 days, I didn’t have problems with ants for nearly a year. As ants began gradually appearing again, I realized I should replace, bought a couple more earthkind repellent packets, and again, didn’t have any ants in my house for nearly a year.

I think the fragrance is nice, though it is certainly more noticeable (stronger) in the first week or so, but I have found the packets to continue to repel ants for months after the fragrance has diminished.

At first I was skeptical, I’ll admit. How well would something all natural really repel ants? We have an issue with ants every summer – oddly enough in our son’s bedroom. We have found out there quite a nest under his window, but I digress.

I have always believed in the power of essential oils and natural products, but some fall short in their formulas or use cheep ingredients and they end up being a total waste of money. That is absolutely NOT the case with EarthKind Ant and Cockroach deterrent! Not only does this stuff work, it is the absolute best way to deter the nasties from coming into your house! We live in the suburbs, but our neighborhood was built in a remote area.

There are millions of trees and zillions of ants! In the summer, the ants love to make thier way into my house via our back slider door. I have kids, so the ants usually can find the feast of crumbs the little ones leave before I get a chance to vaccum.

My second purchase of this. Works very well and easy to apply. I have a thin black metal pole so it heats up and melts off maybe once or twice in the season, I just reapply. One tube goes a long way! Stores well.

Be sure to store out of high heat.

This product works great! Just sad you only allow one at a time. My local stores no longer carry it and with all my feeders I can go they one tube very quickly! Not to mention we have a lot of sugar ants which still finds a way to get to my feeders!!!.

i don’t know if they reformulated the product or have changed manufacturers, because when i 1st bought this product a couple years ago, it performed as advertised; i could dispense it on the metal sheperds hooks that the feeders hung off of and the consistancy of the product remained relatively firm to stay put even on hot days.

the last two batches turn to liquid in the tube on a warm day in the barn on the shelf. and wouldn’t stick , but just drip off the hooks. i have to keep it in the refrigerator to keep it stiff, but it still just drips off as soon as the temp warms up.

i have not contacted the company, hopefully they will read this and check their formula. after my initial use, i was so impressed i bought more for family and friends and suggested it to others; not any longer.

i’m wondering what to add to it to stiffen it up.

I was a little hesitant to try this at first because in the past “All Natural” types of ant/roach repellents never seemed to work. We live with woods on all sides of us so bugs are constantly in and around our house, including ants.

They pop up on random days in random places. Recently I kept finding about 50 ants every morning on my kitchen floor and I’d get rid of them and more would show up throughout the day. This was going on for about a week and it was just very frustrating and annoying.

So I put one of these EarthKind Ant Deterrent Pouches in the bottom cabinet drawer near where the ants kept being found and within a day or two I stopped seeing them in that spot. I was definitely surprised at how quick and effective it was.

The smell of the pouch was strong but pleasant, it has this lemony type of scent that either faded after a few days or was just something I got used to because at first I did notice the smell every time I passed by the drawer I put the pouch in but after a few days it’s not something that stands out.

So if you are looking for a more natural solution to getting rid of ants, this is definitely worth trying. It does say it also gets rid of roaches but as I don’t have any roaches in my house I can’t really say either way how well it works on those but it is effective with ants.

Having had another recent invasion of ants, I was happy to receive the Earthkind “Stay Away Ants” product. However, I didn’t realize before I read the information on the packet that it merely repels ants, rather than actually killing them.

We usually use Terro Ant Killer, and it works well, but for some reason recently the ants were so stubborn I thought maybe Earthkind’s product might do the trick. Unfortunately, my husband has a very sensitive response to various odors, and while I like natural products and essential oils, I wasn’t able to use this product for our bathroom’s infestation of ants due to the strong odor the packet puts off.

But even if he had been able to tolerate the odor, it wouldn’t have resolved the problem apparently, but just pushed the ants away from the bathroom to another area apparently. I also had an infestation of ants in my car at the same time, but had already placed Terro in the car just a day or two before I received the Earthkind product.

So while I haven’t seen any further ants, I can’t actually say definitively that it was due to the Earthkind product or the Terro. I will say that the odor is pungent in the car now, so obviously the essential oils are being released and the ants aren’t showing up now! haha.

I’ve tried the granulated stuff, the barrier spray & the whole lawn prevention. This is the only nearly universal ant killer that works for most indoor & outdoor ants! I normally get the PCO 1-2 oz bottle, but I end up lending it to my friends and neighbors after a recommendation.

The only little flaw is that the nozzle broke off after a 2nd course of refilling my traps. No biggie, some plastic wrap and a rubber band is fine.

I was given this product by Influenster in return for my honest opinions. My opinion is – try it! These rainstorms have driven the ants to hunt for drier land and apparently my house was their Mecca.

We woke up to ants every morning. The spray just killed them for a minute but a new round would be here the next day. We have sprinkled this around the entire perimeter of our house – extra around the outdoor trash cans – and every single day we have seen a SIGNIFICANTLY less amount of ants.

Hoping they tell their friends to find a new dry ground… Hoping to be down to zero soon!.

I received this product for free from Influenster in exchange for an honest review. I was very excited when I received this in the mail. There is spot by deck that ants had taken over. I’m always afraid to use other products as it’s not safe for my dogs.

When I read that this one would be ok to use and still let my dogs out in the backyard I was happy! My husband used this stuff and we noticed a difference fairly quickly. The ants slowly disappeared and our deck wasn’t being invaded anymore.

I would definitely recommend this product for pet safe pest control.

I received this product from Influenster for free but all opinions are my own. We have a huge red ant problem in my area. The mounds get large if untreated and can ruin a nice day outside if you step on them.

When you get this treatment on the mound when it first starts, the ants are killed off. The lawn is not disturbed which is great. The larger mounds are a different story. I would prefer to use another product that destroys the mound with copious amounts of water after applying the chemicals, even if it destroys the lawn.

I don’t often write reviews, so if I’m writing one it’s either really good or really bad. This ant killer worked in incredibly well, I littered it round my house and in the cracks that I saw ants. Once I physically removed the few remaining, all the ants disappeared, never saw even just one ever again.

Had a wasp nest hidden behind timbers for the porch. Had tried other products but the foam didn’t last long and the wasps continued to come and go. Whilst a little difficult to apply the puffing of the powder appears to have done the job.

This the original Ant Killer when all other products fail. By applying in the cracks where ants surface the ants take the powder to their nest which kills most of them and forces all of the winged ants to flee the nest.

This is a surekill product and serves one well. Highly recommended.
