20 Best Home Fireproof Waterproof Safe (2023 Updated)

I just gotta say, this safe is Godly amazing. I love this thing. I use this to hide snacks from my kids because those Little critters always go to my room and take my snacks and eat them. I hate it when I come home from a really long day of work and I get upset I don’t have anything to snack on.

Since I have weird kids that love my snacks whenever I am at work. Damń kids. But when I went to OfficeMax, I saw this safe, I was like “This might be a great safe to put my snacks in!” I bought this safe and it was a really good deal.

I put my favorite snacks like pringles, crackers, candy and special chocolate I got from my granny. My kids yelled at me where the snacks at and I was like “They are in a safe place. Go eat something healthy kids.

” At first they found out the snacks are in the safe and try to break it open. But luckily it was fire safe, water safe and definitely kids safe. I had no issues! Now I just got to make sure they don’t figure out where I hide the key and which key it is.

I have only opened this “water/fire proof” safe maybe a dozen times over 2 years. Noticed a very strong mold smell coming from my most important documents that have been stored inside and Upon further inspection I found two faults in the safe near the hinges.

The cracks are so wide while the safe is sitting open (under its own weight) that I can see the insulation. The cracks travel under the seal, effectively making it as moisture/fireproof as any other random box.

The box has never traveled, nor has it been abused. It has only ever been stored in a closet without anything on or under it. This is a major disappointment as this safe wasn’t exactly inexpensive. It failed at it’s one purpose; keeping my valuables safe and secure.

I thought this was a good safe. I’ve owned it for probably 10 years. Today I went to open it, unlocked it and pull on the plastic handle, and it fell off. Then, I discovered, the only thing locking it was the plastic handle.

So, without the plastic handle attached, it would open whether it was locked or unlocked. Then I started thinking, if this safe was in a fire, the plastic handle would melt, leaving it able to open. I’ve been trusting my secure documents in this safe for years.

Not the case anymore. Shame on Sentry Safe for advertising a fire/waterproof safe that leads buyers in to believing their documents are safe, when in reality, they are not. Do not buy this product!.

I got this because it was a reasonably priced water and fire safe from a good brand. My documents and everything in here become moldy and musty. This is despite the fact that I bought an extra large moisture absorbing desiccant silica pack, and open the safe every 1-3 months.

I also stored the safe indoors in a climate controlled and non-humid environment. Chances of my belongings being destroyed by fire or flood: really really low. Chances of my belongings being destroyed by moisture damage in this safe: 100%.

The instructions do recommend opening the safe every 2 weeks for 20 minutes for “optimal performance”. Not a very explicit or clear set of instructions on how to avoid moisture issues. Who has time to babysit their safe every two weeks anyways – it’s a metal box.

Apparently the inner walls have a moisture absorbing material that is useful for fire proofing. Useless.

I picked this First Alert file chest because of the dimensions of the outside specifically. It will fit right next to my computer desk under a chair. I was surprised to find that the inside is more roomy than I had expected! I did not buy it for it’s lock function so the somewhat flimsy(ness) of the lock mechanism, is not a problem.

There are no handles or indentations for a hand hold and it is heavy. I cut a piece of cardboard from the shipping box to put under it to slide it to it’s final destination. I did not buy this as a safe to store valuable items.

I bought it to store critical documents. I will use ziplock bags as was suggested by another reviewer.

Arrived earlier than projected and in good condition. Note: This is not a safe. The latch is made of plastic and o suspect it would not survive a hammer blow or two. We bought it as a water/fire protector but it has no handle so you can’t easily carry it in an emergency.

Also, interior will barely handle a flat document. no room for envelopes or sheath even though manufacturer strongly recommends using protective covers on documents. Item could have been designed better for functionality so I gave it 4 stars.

I bought one of these last week, and was just reading over the so-called “limited warranty. ” It’s limited, all right. The fine print of User Guide specifically states that “. the warranty does not cover Acts of God, such as fire, flood, earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes.

” I ask you, are these not the very things that you would want to protect your valuables from in a “Waterproof Fire Chest”? These exclusions were not mentioned in the product description. I suspect this disclaimer is used in all such Honeywell safes, so buyer beware.

As others have said, it’s also very heavy — and this is the light one!.

I purchased this case primarily to hold my ‘hard to replace’ documents and to protect them from possible fire or water damage. Although I have not had the misfortune to actually test the effectiveness of the case under those conditions, I can say that it is built sturdy and is of good quality.

It is heavy to carry if you need to move it, but that should be expected for the protection it offers. I like the fact that I can hold letter and legal size documents in the case without having to bend them.

The only thing I don’t care for, and it’s not a big concern for me, is that you can’t remove the key in the unlocked position. If you want to shut the case and remove the key, you must lock it. Having this case saves me from the inconvenience of renting a safety deposit box at my banking institution and having limited access to my documents.

Overall, for the price and the fire protection function, I’m happy with the purchase.

The safe itself and the keypad are great but I’ve got to dock a star because the fingerprint reader is unreliable. Even after doing multiple extra prints with the finger in various positions, the reader is unreliable.

I get maybe a fifty percent hit rate and have had it go into protection mode a few times since buying it just trying to get it to read properly. Fortunately, the keypad is first rate. I know they have a touch screen version of the safe but a real tactile pad with buttons is nice and makes it easy to use so the fingerprint reader is kind of unnecessary but since it’s there I would expect it to work.

The safe itself is very nice with slots for multiple shelves and it already comes with a tray. I do like the fact that they have more accessories available on their website at a reasonable price and will probably buy the lockbox accessory and another shelf to organize better.

The door itself has a pocket which is useful as well as multiple key hooks which is a nice touch. Something I I missed on the box that was a pleasant surprise is that it has a light that comes on when you open the door so no black hole.

It can be disabled if it’s not needed or wanted. It’s a safe so it’s obviously heavy but not so much that it’s hard to move around. It does come with lag bolts to secure it to the floor if you so desire.

It comes with a desiccant packet in the safe and you will want to keep it instead of throwing it away. Being water resistant, if you put anything in it that was exposed to humidity, it will almost definitely cause condensation inside and risk damaging documents.

They sell spares on their website for a couple of bucks if you need replacements or you feel one is not enough for your situation, though I would suggest just saving some from other packages and throwing them in there instead of throwing them away.

Free and green that way and you probably get a million of them in other packages. All in all I would call it a solid 4 1/2 safe. Though it has one little issue in its function as a safe it’s first rate.

It’sa bit more expensive than similar safes I looked at but feature wise this was worth the extra money despite the one flaw I found.

My safe arrived locked, so I almost return Ed it, but tried calling customer service instead. They gave me the unlock code and I found the instructions and keys inside the safe. Programming the fingerprint is not super easy and I don’t love the fact that the fingerprint OR the code can unlock the safe, so it actually makes it easier to break into rather than making it harder.

The one thing I hate about this safe is that it is not deep or wide enough for hanging files. It will not close unless I put my hanging files vertical, which makes it impossible to fit the shelf that comes with the safe.

If it is a fire and water safe, it should be easy to store important documents. It is just 1/2” short of fitting the very thing most people will wish to store in it. It was not obvious on the packaging, but in order to secure the safe to the floor, you must drill a hole through the fire proofing.

So… does that mean it’s no longer guaranteed to keep the contents safe from fire?.

I’m replacing an older Sentry Safe that was water/fire resistant, but used a combination lock. We never managed to get used to using a combination, so it mainly sat open most of the time, which completely defeated the purpose.

We purchased a Tiger King safe with a fingerprint sensor, because we knew it had to be convenient for my wife and I to be able to open and close. This was a terrible mistake and after about an hour of using it, we decided to return it.

We’d grown used to the quality of the Sentry Safe and this other one was a poor competitor. So, I spent a little more to get the Sentry Safe with fingerprint sensor and WOW is there a huge difference.

The safe is clearly more secure than that other flimsy metal box, but it’s also made in the USA! After looking in to it, it seems as though every other safe is made in China. I couldn’t be happier with our new Sentry Safe with finger print sensor.

Nice safe with plenty of room for what we want to safely store. Setting up the 2 user- defined combinations was easy. Opens and closes easily. Seems well built. Arrived in excellent condition with no dents or scratches.

I had a fireproof box that was the size of a large boxy briefcase, but I needed more room. And I didn’t want to get another briefcase size. So, I found this one online and new it would be perfect to hold all my important documents and more.

I have the old briefcase size one in the closet in case I need more space, but I doubt I will. It’s very easy to use the digital locking and I’m glad you can set up a couple other passcodes for it.

Seems to be a capable fire/water proof safe for our needs. Tis quite heavy so get assistance moving it around. Programing new code is simple enough. Like that they included desiccants. Our last Sentry Safe got moldy smell real fast.

This safe is “easily” broken into by a thief who knows its weaknesses (see online videos), but that’s not why we got it. We wanted to keep documents/media safe from fire/water. The combination/key system is to keep children and other prying eyes out.

Comes with 2 drawers. Wish it came with a shelf, too, as there is room. I’m sure I can buy one. Just seems like it could be added cheaply. I like the internal light. That helps. Could be bolted to the floor, but you have to drill holes and that breaks the water seal so that’s not for us.

This product is exactly what I needed. Sufficient space and easy access. I bolted it down to the floor in a corner so it is going no where. I have seen the YT videos with the handheld devices to reset it to factory codes but they do not include the key in that video (extra protection).

To take a diamond blade to cut the safe up is not what people who break into your home would do. The handle is plastic but it is fine. These are features which make the safe reasonable in costs. I purchased extra shelves which I am glad I did.

Nothing is perfect but if you are looking to protect your valuables this is the safe for you.

Had to purchase another safe from Staples at twice the price. Unfortunately, when I tried to return the original purchase it was too late. That being said, this was my fault, not Staples. I should have been able to judge from the price that this safe wasn’t for me.

But you need a household safe to make documents safe from prying eyes and hands, this would be perfect. 1 star is for not being able to return the unused product.

Impressive construction. Sturdy! I opted for curb side delivery to my residence; however, if I were to do it again would have pd. the extra $$ to have it delivered and set up in its final resting place seeing it actually weighed 394 lbs.

my only other suggestion would to have new Duracell 9v battery on hand as the accompanying battery only lasted 2-days. I would definitely purchase this safe again, however could have used the next size up as I underestimated what I needed to put in it.

That’s on me! One last suggestion. It would have been nice if there was a screw-in plug to fill the hole for the floor bolt as I did not need to secure the safe to the floor. The DeanSafe support team was excellent.

Smooth experience with Armadillo Safe. Ordered online, got notice of shipping process and item arrived at the stated time frame. The product itself is of high quality. The Hollon HS-880 is very heavy and durable, perfect for a home/fireproof safe.

The actual lock and level mechanism is the smoothest I have ever tried on a home safe so very happy about that.

Buttons stick and will not let the safe open. Pass code did not work because button would not work. Will drill the back so I can hit reset combination. If this does not work I will take a crow bar to it and find a better safe for the office.

We looked at many options before landing on our Fire Proof SentrySafe. For the price it has more than ample room but is small enough to hide in our home. We also like that it is a name brand product.

The digital combination lock makes access easy and the external battery access eliminates the fear of dead batteries with the safe locked. We saw some reviews that said the digital lock failed when the door was closed.

We had that happen too. A call to Customer Service revealed that our batteries were not up to par. Follow the SentrySafe instructions and use high quality batteries that are as close to a 10 year shelf life as possible.

We replaced our Harbor Freight Thunderbolt batteries with new Energizer batteries with a 2031 freshness date. After that, the digital lock works perfectly.

This is a well-built quality Fire Safe, and with many nice features for the price range. It is larger enough to store normal documents, can easily be bolted to the floor, and the digital combination appears to be very reliable.

I would recommend this to anyone looking to keep important documents and personal items safe from theft or from loss due to a fire. As an extra precaution, I placed some items into a fire-resistant bag for extra protection.

Safe is easy to use and quick to open in a hurry. This Safe has a Tray for keeping documents separate from main storage area where they can lay flat so that they do not take up much volume and remain un-creased.

This model has a really nice weight to it, once I bolted this unit to my foundation a serious piece of machinery would be needed to extract without the combination. The seal on the door seems very solid; I hope I never have to find out but it looks like it will stand up to fire and flood quite well.

If you need a Safe that has the ability to be secured to a structure and removed for transport; this one comes well recommended.

I sure don’t know where the good reviews are coming from, but the bar must be awfully low to rate this safe as anything but barely acceptable. My first safe from this company was a digital with keypad.

The keypad mechanism itself seemed almost toy-like. The locking bolts and frame seemed okay and it lasted about 15 years before it started to get harder and harder to open before it wouldn’t open at all.

Their support folks told me to spray penetrating oil in a little hole on the inside of the oor and hit the door with a rubber mallet to shke loose the locking bolts. This would generally work after a few tries, but continued to be increasingly difficult.

The penetrating oil ran down the inside of the door and dissolved the rubber gasket seal lining the inside of the door- I had to just pull off and toss that seal. As far as hitting the door with a rubber mallet to loosen the bolts, it was caving in the door and was typically 20-40 minutes to get the safe open.

So I decided to get a replacement with a combination lock. Whoa! Cheapness achieved! As other pointed out, the gears in the lock are plastic. There are good, solid heavy duty plastics available- those were not used in this safe.

The sound of the gears are more like that of a small child’s toy. They tend to catch in some places on the dial and I’m actually fearful that they will just break off if I turn too hard. This would be a perfect locking mechanism on a toy (I know 3rd time I’ve used that term) safe for a child to keep their diary hidden.

I would have gladly paid considerably more for a safe that essentially wasn’t designed to be disposable after a few years. I’m already shopping for something I’m not fearful of keeping us away our valuables.

I have had this safe for 10 years. I finally closed my safe deposit box at the bank and moved everything into the sentry safe. It has good volume. I find that I need to position letter sized documents sideways so the the door can close more easily.

I just found out, by downloading an instruction manual, that electronic gear is not supposed to be stored in the safe (I had a portable hard drive in there), due to a moisture issue – the original instruction manual including with the product did not mention that… I hope the drive will still function.

I would like that the arrow indicating the vertical position for the combination had more contrast – I find it difficult in low light to see that adequately – I might need to put on some white paint at that spot.

Sometimes, the combination dial is difficult to spin after locking – it could be that I am not closing the handles properly, but I think the dial just gets hung up. The safe is very heavy, so I feel that if someone broke into the house, they would be deterred to steal the safe; and, would be disinclined due to the inability to open the safe without knowing the combination.

We have had a Sentry Safe before but it is in our other home in Idaho. It has been kept in a garage at varying temperatures, but still functions fine in spite of some dust and a broken piece of plastic along the turn tumbler.

Maybe some jewelry. We put it in our basement and think it will be a “go to” location for location for the executor of our will. It gives me “piece of mind” to sort out a few things before we transition to other realms.

Home Depot had just what we wanted.

I bought this to replace another safe. Although this thing is heavy it does have a handle to make carrying it easy. It is extremely well made and heavy duty. Plenty of room inside for my important documents.

I also bought the fire resistant envelopes. These two things together and placed in my gun safe should be plenty of protection from fire and theft. I highly recommend this product.
