It may take a few Washes to get use to applying a very purple shampoo to your hair, but there’s nothing more effective for removing orange or brassiness from blonde hair. It’s so effective in fact, it can be used as a toner after you’ve bleached your hair to neutralize that ugly orangey color that’s inevitable regardless of your natural color.

We’ve all seen people walking around with that orangey hair with white roots after bleaching their hair. It’s not exactly the best look for anybody. Especially when it can be avoided and get more natural and blended results simply by applying this shampoo after you rinse the bleach out and letting it sit for a few minutes before rinsing out.

It works the same way as the toner your stylist would charge an arm and a leg for to tone your blonde at a salon. Immediately after rinsing the bleach from your hair, while it’s still wet, apply the shampoo and keep a constant eye on it.

Check your color every minute or so until you get the shade your trying to achieve, then rinse throughly followed by a deep conditioning treatment. Even if you don’t get all the brassiness out the first time, give your hair a break to let the follicles close for a few days then use it to tone your hair again.

But be warned, this product works FAST. Once your hair is the desired shade and free of brassiness, this shampoo with start to tint your hair purple if left on for more than a minute or so. But nothing works better to neutralize any orange or brassiness out of your hair.

I basically was a brunette most of my life and worse I had curly hair. So one day as a teenager I just tried to go blonde but wasn’t aware I needed a toner, uhm can you say hello lemonhead 🍋 and I don’t mean the band or the candy.

Well, after years I decided to try it again and I finally did it. But no thanks to this wonderful product right here from Clairol. Shimmer Lights not only helps take out the brassy look(although I do my hair myself, it’s way cheaper and with kids it’s in my lane) but it also helps bring out that beach blonde look most people go for.

I think I have harder time finding a bleach since I color my hair randomly through the year, no real reason as to why but I was always into a quick spur of the moment thing like that. I learned a quick hair dye(change) can really make you feel great, well at least for me.

Anyway this toner is perfect and it doesn’t have a heavy chemical smell or anything. It smells actually really decent. Definitely my go to when I am in the bleaching process, as I am currently. Worth the buy!.

This is a classic for blondes. If you have near white/lightest blonde hair this can dye it lavender. I specifically bought this a year ago to make my hair lavender. You leave it on about 15-20 minutes and you will have lavender/some lavender hues for about 1.

5 weeks. I also used this later on as a regular toning shampoo for my blonde hair and it works great. I have tried other purple shampoos that I like better. This is very drying and smells like faint musky cat pee smell with shampoo.

Those are my reasons for giving it a 4/5. Of course that scent washes out but it’s pretty strong when applying. I think Pravana has the best blonde products.

I use a 6mm guard all around, so it was super important to find scalp safe(ish) bleach. I used this with 20 v developer, and left it on for about 35 mins. I have relatively fine hair as is so I was a little nervous about bleaching it.

The bleach went on thick enough not to run down my face. The bleach foamed up a bit and coated my hair fully. During the entire time my scalp did not feel irritated or itchy. Honestly the most pleasant bleaching experience I’ve ever had.

I did use a cheaper developer, the brand that Sally’s carries and it did not affect the outcome. The price of the bleach is amazingly reasonable for how much powder you get, I paid $23 at Sally’s. One thing I will say is that I was already planning on dying my hair, otherwise I definitely would have wanted to tone it.

The tone was very yellow. Other than that, outstanding product. Will definitely use again, and would absolutely recommend to any friend looking to bleach their hair.

Love it, new fav! 💕💕 So everyone always uses Blond Me and honestly when I want something, I have to do it ASAP the only thing that keeps me hesitant about blonde me is 1) how it’s not easily accessible unless I’m a licensed cosmetologist.

I don’t want to wait for my hair color in the mail bc maybe by then I’ve changed my mind! 🙃 2) also blond me isnt “high lift” I used this on two layers of red box dye, I also used a baking soda/purple shampoo/ peroxide non bleach strip to lift some of the red just in case and honestly I could have skipped it.

This lifted beautifully with zero orange tones it was sooo blonde I couldn’t believe I got this at Sally’s! Love it deff a new fav for at home color 💕💕 I used 40 V bc I had red and wanted it out the first go round.

I also added a protein treatment to this and had very minimal breakage on my curly hair. I lifted to a level 8 blonde in one shot after two layers of red box dye. Literally amazing 🤩.

I will say, this is probably the best bleach I have used and I have a super sensitive scalp. It starts lifting fairly quickly and doesn’t need to stay on very long for me to achieve the color I am looking for.

I will say, I am naturally a blonde so my hair doesn’t take much to lift a couple of levels. I will continue to use this product as long as I can continue to find it.

I have been using arctic fox for almost a year now. I have used to it maintain my hair in various shades of blue, purple, pink, and turquoise. I switched over from overtone because it was staining my hair, esp the dark blue.

Arctic fox does not do this, but it also needs to be refreshed a bit more often. If you have bleached hair and want to switch colors somewhat frequently, this is the best I’ve found. My hair stylist can get my base back to blonde for when I want a change, while this was not achievable with other brands.

Blue in particular tends to be really stubborn to get out, but so far my hair stylist has no complaints about Poseidon or Blue Jean Baby. The color holds on WAY better to the bleached part of my hair (I have my stylist fade the bleach out so I don’t get abrupt looking roots, but I still get good longevity on all my hair by using this process: -Wash my hair with clarifying shampoo (do this a couple of days in a row leading up if you use dry shampoo a lot like I do) and DON’T condition -let it dry completely, the dryer the better.

-apply arctic fox color to dry hair -leave it on for 2 HOURS (the bottle will say 30 min – this is not enough time) -rinse the color out with the coldest temp you can tolerate (I have nerve damage so I use lukewarm water) – you should be good for 3-4 weeks as long as you do use your normal shampoo in your hair, especially not with a non-color safe shampoo.

Dry shampoo is your new best friend (I love Batiste’s products for this). Shower with a shower cap on if you take daily showers, and when you don’t, rinse your hair out and just use conditioner. I only use actual shampoo in the shower once a week or so.

This is what causes the most fading. If the idea of not shampooing/washing your hair in the shower frequently appauls you, maintainable fashion shades are not for you.

Wow. Just blown away!! I’ve been coloring my hair for well over 30 yrs, but have been different shades of Purples/Pinks for about 3 yrs now; The only 3 brands I ever use/trust are Arctic Fox, IroIro & Punky.

For those saying it dyes everything but their hair, I doubt that seriously, unless you do it wrong: If going LIGHTER, you MUST bleach it first, or yes, it won’t do much of anything. If you already have a naturally lighter color, it will show up, but if you want the EXACT color on the box/label, you’ve got to start w/basically ABSENCE of color, which is basically bleach blonde, & I always use Manic Panic’s AMPLIFIED Flash Lightening (Different than just Flash Lightening, it pulls a bit more color off, especially good for medium/darker browns, etc).

Kind of a no-brainer, actually. As far as ppl saying it gets everywhere: Use your head & PREPARE properly first, & that won’t happen. Use Vaseline around your face, & have PLENTY of old rags/towels laid out (in case of cast-off).

Remove all carpets from bathroom, etc. DON’T rush, & once it’s in your hair, cover it w/a shower cap or even a grocery bag; It helps it work better & also provides protection for anything you may rub against.

And always keep handy some rubbing alcohol (or ashes work, too) for quick clean up of hands, forehead, etc. Invest in some GOOD color refreshing shampoo in your desired color to keep it vibrant!! Really hope this helps.

All I know is that for a LONG time, I’ve somehow been able to do intricate things w/this brand among others, & in VERY bright, vibrant colors, such as ombre going purple, magenta to dark pink. I just don’t understand all the ppl having such issues.

Absolute garbage hype beast brand. Just a disclaimer, I don’t think I purchased both of my bottles at Ulta, but I did the Violet Dream for sure, and I’ve used them twice in combo now, and I can say with absolute certainty that I will never be buying Arctic Fox again and will try to steer anyone clear that I can.

Save your money, other brands are far better. Even Manic Panic with it’s eternal staining and bleeding will at least actually stick to hair and Ulta carries them. And to be clear: I followed all the instructions.

I was careful that my hair was freshly washed, no conditioner or product whatsoever, dry obviously. I used more dye than necessary just to be safe, wrapped the dyed sections in foil and then bag heat processed the whole shebang.

The end result: I’ve got sections of purple from the Girls Night Out and Violet Dream combo I just applied, I’ve got the old faded green sections from a much better brand in random spots, and one side took completely differently despite being treated the same way so I’ve got one mostly purple streak with green here and there, and one slightly purple, slightly green with some awesome sections with no dye.

Oh yes that’s right. I had sections where the old dye had faded so completely that it was back to platinum blonde. Guess which parts it didn’t stick to? Yeah. Those bits. Bleached but healed platinum blonde.

Covered some sections of green just fine, but apparently a blank slate is a bridge too far for this brand. And yes, they were definitely covered in dye; I went overboard because my first attempt using this brand was laughable results-wise.

Turns out, that’s just how this brand do. I have no idea where all these people that worship this brand are coming from. Are they wearing wigs, is it dyed with another brand? Because there’s no way they’re using this stuff.

It barely sticks to hair, so how are these people getting full, evenly dyed bright hair huh? Super sus.

Hi. I received a sample packet and I must say, this product is rather amazing. I have almost black hair. This product is supposed to be for blondes, but can be used on brunettes. I figured, it was free, why not try it.

After air drying my hair, I didn’t notice much of a difference, but I also wasn’t really looking to see if there was a difference. However, once I arrived at the office…. my coworkers and random people in the hallway kept commenting on how shiny my hair was and whether I did something new! Then I got home and took my dog for a walk, again, the lil old ladies, that constantly walk the neighborhood, commented on how shiny my hair was! Then I ran into my landlord who asked if I dyed my hair because it’s so shiny.

Like what?!? I was blown away! My natural hair is dark brunette but I dye it almost black and this powder made my hair ”glow”! I must say, it does have a chemical smell in the shower, however, it has vitamin C in it and it is powder so the smell really didn’t bother me, I pretty much expected it.

Texture is grainy, but it is powder that must be mixed with water. I suppose I understand the complaints from other people, but common, have you ever seen a powder that needs to be made into a paste in the shower? You can’t expect it to become “conditioner” consistency! I kept getting compliments for the next few days even after I washed my hair.

I’m ordering the whole pack now and can’t wait to use it again. To be completely honest, I’ve never left a review on a sample product before, but this one was actually noticed by people who had no idea I used it so I believe it deserves a positive review.

Let me tell y’all, the dpHUE brightening powder is great! The included instructions tell you to use one packet immediately after shampooing, work the powder form into a paste, then work it through your hair for five or so minutes.

Easy enough right? Anyone with long or thick hair is going to use two, I’ll just tell you now and spare you the trouble. It initially feels a bit gritty on the hair, but that feeling dissipates as you work it through.

There is definitely a bit of a smell to the brightening powder while it is on your hair in the shower, a bit reminiscent to a subtle citrus cleaner perhaps. It’s not necessarily bad, but it threw me off personally.

It’s super easy to wash out, and post-shower my hair felt clean and especially smooth but I’ll attribute that partially to deep conditioner. Now that my hair is dry, I think it looks noticeably brighter! I noticed slightly less brassy/yellow tones in my hair, but nothing drastically different.

This product will not lighten your hair so save that one for the professionals. All in all, I think my hair looks healthy, happy, and bright! I definitely enjoyed using this product, and I think I’ll continue to do so in the future.

This was gifted by dpHUE in exchange for my honest thoughts! This came as small packets that are supposed to be used in the shower (After shampooing, before conditioning). The packets are really slippery and difficult to open and handle in the shower.

When I was finally able to get the packet open, the dust from the powder immediately filled the air and made it almost a little hard to breathe. Once I made a paste, as instructed, the smell went away.

You’re supposed to massage from roots to tips, but I don’t feel like there was enough paste to coat all of my hair, and my hair is only barely shoulder length. It was gritty, as it said it would be, and it did definitely feel like my hair was getting a deep exfoliating treatment.

It says to work the product through for 5 minutes, but after about a minute it just becomes so “dry” almost and really difficult to move through the hair, so I ended up using a silicone scalp brush to massage my scalp and hair, and that worked so much better than just hands and fingers.

After rinsing, my hair was a bit dry, as it stated it would be, but it definitely felt very clean. I conditioned with my normal conditioner and my hair felt totally soft and silky like normal. I let my hair air dry and I definitely noticed that my highlights seemed to pop! My roots also appeared a bit lighter too.

It says it brightens but doesn’t lighten, and I feel like it definitely did as it said. The packaging was less than stellar, and the process wasn’t very easy, but the results were quite nice!.

This is the best I have EVER tried! It lasted longer than Ions Permanent haircolor (used with developer) This requires no daveloper so it is not harmful to your hair, and it lasts a long time. Especially if you only use cool water on your hair and using a color wash shampoo also helps if you really want to keep the vibrancy going but also works well without this.

I have dark hair which had been pre-lightened and it worked great! I went in the salon the next time for more bleaching because I wanted more and they used Ions PERMANENT Purple color with developer and it did not cover as well as Pulp Riot AND IT (ALMOST ALL) WASHED OUT IN THE FIRST SHAMPOO! As did 2 of their other so called permanent colors! But I’m good I got more of this and I will be set! The last time I used after 9 weeks I still had BEAUTIFUL PURPLE COLOR! I have never received so many compliments on my hair in all my life! Please never stop making this I love it!.

My hair has not even a purple tint despite sticking to the instructions and the full exposure time. I think when dyeing everything became purple, except the hair itself. Even after more than a week, color still comes out of the hair when washing and the shower water is purple.

Would not recommend and would not buy again. Very much money for nothing.

Not to be dramatic, but this product literally changed my life. Anyone who was blonde as a child and whose hair got gradually darker with age will understand. Being blonde has always been a part of my identity, so when my hair started toeing the line between blonde and brown, I realized it was time to take action.

I didn’t want to have to pay hundreds of dollars a year to keep my blonde, so I figured I’d try this product. That was almost two years ago. Within three months, my hair was noticeably blonder. While my mother used to comment on how dark my hair had gotten, she now frequently compliments the color and talks about how pretty it is.

I absolutely LOVE this product and would recommend it to anyone that has blonde/light brown hair. This stuff smells amazing, makes my hair feel so nice and soft, and actually does help make my hair more blonde in the sun! I have never dyed my hair before other than with natural highlights from the sun! In the winter my hair starts to get darker, when spring rolls around I start using this product in my hair whenever I am going to be outside and I am always impressed at how quickly I can start telling the difference.

Absolutely love this stuff! Unlike normal bleach, this has a bonder in the product so it doesn’t damage your hair to get that light a$$ blonde color you want but cannot achieve in just one session. Usually leaving bleach on your hair too long will cause breakage.

Not this stuff. It lifted my dark brown hair so well with no damage i was SHOCKED! Its like a dupe for the olaplex bonding stuff you add to your normal bleach. but a lot more affordable! I totally recommend this stuff to someone who wants lighten their locks.

This product works! You definitely have to work fast. Lifted me from a level 2 to 8ish in a session and barely had any breakage. I said barely, as my ends where already bleached from previous sessions and slight overlap resulted in minor breakage.

I wish the packaging for the bag was more ecofriendly. They could have packaged in a recyclable tub like their larger version in a smaller version.

This lightening powder is 100% the best one! I add booster to it but u can get the redken flash lift with booster already in it. This is the only brand of lightening powder i use on my clients! Love this !.

My hair color did go 2 to 3 shades lighter using 30 vol developer for 50 mins. I had dark hair color used to use box dyes. I have just below shoulder fine wavy hair and i used half the tube for hair length (didnt do roots).

The ratio is 1 part color to 2 part developer. i used 25 ml colour and 50 ml developer and It came out as beautiful medium ash brown color but then it depends on individuals hair. !.

Used this for my dark roots and yellow ends. It made the ends a lovely ashy blonde but as expected made my roots bright orange. Im not a professional so I used a brush to apply to the roots, left it on for a while then applied to the ends.

I probably should have bleached to roots first. The ends were a lovely colour.

This product is true to the ash blonde color that it promises. It works really well and this is the first time doing my own roots since we can’t get to the hairdresser due the pandemic. Don’t be afraid, I combined this with a high lift 40 developer, worked amazingly.

Yay back to my old self again, look ma no roots, lol!.

To start, if you don’t like the people that make long reviews, you won’t like me. Obviously, Overtone leaves my hair suuuuper soft, even though I use a flat iron about twice a week and use no products in my hair (maybe gel for flyaways).

The conditioner smells like mint a bit, the spearmint type where it’s minty but also sweet, and this is appreciated. I am sensitive to ammonia odors/ gases, so the whole box dye thing is no bueno for me.

I also threw up and passed out last time my mum dyed her hair (I wasn’t even in her house when it happened, it was after she dyed it), so scent affected me too. The color was tricky, but in this case, it worked out BEAUTIFULLY.

I am a dark blonde (I have one friend that says I’m brunette?), so color naturally is hard to hold in my hair (I do no pre-lightening, again, for the smells). I am also thick-haired, and I’m a curly gurly, so it’s hard to check and make sure that the dye is evenly distributed, etc etc.

The first time I used Overtone, it was the Extreme silver and Vibrant Purple. The Vibrant washed out in a week I think, and the color was hardly there to begin with. So, if you wanna skip the pre-lightening like me and only do color, DO THE EXTREME LINE, no vibrant 🙂 I am always happy with Overtone, and they’re making more of their packaging happy for the earth.

I would like more gloves when I buy dye, since it’s a bit hard to wash and reuse the gloves. Also, since I’ve no light hair, I do end up touching up my hair. every two weeks? And I wash my hair every three days.

Just a note for those who need numbers to work with.

So I got the red for brown hair and vibrant purple. I wanted a mulberry color. I was excited to try because all the reviews I read was how healthy their hair felt after – my hair has never felt worse.

It felt waxy and unclean. Maybe I didn’t wash it out well enough?? But I was pretty displeased at how my hair felt after rinsing the conditioner out. But as far as the color goes, it’s certainly vibrant.

I had dirty blonde roots and bleached ends. So I certainly got a heck of a lot of vibrancy with the blonde. I was semi disappointed as to how the color changed at my roots, after the first application you could certainly tell the difference, but after a few days (I only wash once a week) the color faded significantly, I was super surprised since no water, shampoo or conditioner had touched my hair.

So, for a fun color change – I’m totally for this. But I won’t be buying again – to maintain the color, you would absolutely need to apply the conditioner at least once a week.
