20 Best High Calorie Dog Food (2023 Updated)

This product does what it claims to do. Our English Mastiff suddenly went off his food and began losing weight. In a search to improve his health I discovered Bully Max through an online search. We supplemented a natural diet with Bully Max Pro Series and hand fed our big guy.

His weight and overall condition improved with the additional calories. Sadly our devoted companion had a cancer and is no longer with us. However, we believe that the additional nutrition from Bully Max helped us improve the quality of our boy’s last months with us.

I purchased the smallest version of this a two months ago and mixed into the food slowly. My dog was not having it all. Only eating about half a bowl. But i thought she just had to get use to it. Bigger bag came the following month and my dog started not eating all together.

Not sure why. Wasted like 50 bucks or more. I’m pretty disappointed, but in all honesty im not sure i blame the company. My dog just doesn’t like the taste of this 2x more calories pro series dog food.

I have two dogs that I have been feeding bully max. My Cane corso mastiff Kratos 1yr 8 mo. My Great Dane Tahlia 3 months. They have a very happy demeanor and have the energy to play before a work out/training session.

They remain focused and willing while training. Their coats are beautiful and healthy. I love how good bully max is for my dogs health. Plus No Recalls. I mean what more so you need? GET YOUR DOG BULLY MAX.

I have been feeding this brand to my cats as an alternative to canned foods for a couple years now, and in April we got a 6month old puppy. She came to us from her previous owners with a high protein adult dog kibble and a litany of digestive issues.

After trying several options of dog food over the course of months, ultimately I came to the conclusion that no matter what kind of kibble I fed her, it was going to cause her to have diarrhea. I started feeding her chicken and rice and boiled carrots or pumpkin purée to stabilize her guts, slowly adding ingredients to her diet to try to isolate the things that cause her digestive upset.

Now, 6 months later, she is doing well on raw and cooked whole foods. I have been cooking for her at home or buying her frozen raw food from a local pet store, but the time and effort of the first and the cost of the latter (combined with having to remember to pull food from the freezer twice a day with enough time for it to thaw before meals) was becoming an issue.

I had previously considered and decided against honest kitchen for my dog, because most of their recipes include peas (more so the grain free varieties, but even the whole grain options mostly include peas) and I’ve read that peas in a dog’s diet can prevent adequate absorption of taurine in the diet.

However, recently I came across the grain free version of this fruits & veggies meal base, which of course was made with peas, but it prompted me to go searching for a not grain free option. So I tracked down this product! Admittedly the most inconvenient part of feeding my dog at home has been preparing rice routinely, and having a variety of fruits vegetables on hand and preparing them twice a day, all while worrying that I may be depriving my dog of important nutrients with my incomplete knowledge of dog nutrition.

This mix has completely removed the worst part of preparing food for my dog from the equation, while giving me peace of mind that nothing is being left out of her diet. Now all I have to do is mix up what we refer to as “dog soup” (and “cat soup” respectively), and measure out her protein.

My dog absolutely loves this stuff (her relentless interest in the cat soup also nudged me towards trying this option), and she hasn’t had any diarrhea since switching her over to an honest kitchen diet.

Now I just wait and make sure no skin allergy flare ups result from prolonged exposure to any ingredients in this food. Fingers crossed! disclaimer: my dog loves the taste of this stuff and will leave nothing behind, but she also loves fruits and veggies in general (she even wants to eat my lemons and limes, and one of her favorite treats is the leftover tops of strawberries), so if you have a dog who is picky about their food, this may be a gamble.

My cats are not crazy about their honest kitchen blend, it’s not for everyone. However, the quality is good and if your pet is one of the ones who loves the taste, it’s a great alternative to costly and time consuming raw feeding.

First off, I gave a review of a 3 rating on the product ACANA Limited Ingredients, which I have used for several months and highly mixed with human beef, chicken, vegetables, egg whites and bone broth.

But, I am giving “The Honest Kitchen” a 5 star rating, at least for now. Why? I have two very different pups (both are 2 1/2 years old) but have two very different needs. The 45 lb female is super active and eats any thing (literally) and was never full.

The 65 lb. male is very particular and less active than his companion and would rather go hungry then eat something that did not pick his nose. Solution: Find a food combination that satisfied both and kept the price reasonable.

Tried out “The Honest Kitchen Beef Recipe Grain Free Dehydrated. ” Expensive – yes! But knowing what each pup’s Kcal requirements were (and Vet reviewed), I found that ACANA primarily worked with the over active 45 pd.

pup, when mixed with 1/4 c. dry flakes (makes 3/4 cup wet) with Honest Kitchen, and added boiled chicken and vegetables, and 1/2 c. ACANA at bedtime and she was very satisfied. The 65 pd. pup is only given 1 1/4 dry cups twice/day Honest Kitchen and boiled chicken and 1/4 cup ACANA at night, with no additives.

(However, I do add Organic, low or no salt, Beef Bone Broth mixed with water to all meals. ) The pups stools also improved and the 65 lb. pup’s anal glands and allergies are clearing up. He licks every drop and cleans his plate.

I do think that ACANA has a good product, especially if the pup has allergies (which I was originally looking for. ) However, they need to UP the fiber, lower the sugars and make it more enticing to a dog’s nose.

I am no chemist, so I could be way off on my evaluation; but, I can only evaluate what results from two different types of pup’s reactions are and how they behave and react to the food. Price (on auto ship for extra small/small) wise: ACANA: is 100 cups/25 lbs.

where as The Honest Kitchen is 40 cups/10 lbs. If you have medium to extra large dogs The Honest Kitchen is very pricey. However, you do not have any uneaten food and the pup’s bellies are full. That is why I have struggled (and probably will in the future) to find the right combination for each pup at a price for good food, that I can afford.

ACANA is a VERY good product; however, it just does not fill a pup’s belly up, whereas “The Honest Kitchen” does.

After 2 months of exhausting, in-depth research regarding canine gastric workings and evolution, the industrial control that has degraded the dog food quality, and calculations of the costs that I could afford, I have arrived at HK Grain Free Turkey Dehydrated.

I tried several, increasingly expensive, excellent kibbles and my rescued 6-year-old Boston Terrier just could not tolerate them. She had IBS issues, stomach growling, voracious thirst, sudden bouts of loose stools, shedding, flatulence, low energy, gland issues, and ‘boogery’ eyes.

ALL but the boogery eyes have gone away since switching her to this dehydrated food! I mix it the day before and refrigerate it to give plenty of time for re-hydration. I add a little more warm water before I give it to her.

She loves the food. I throw in several small pieces of quality chicken or turkey breast or thighs to up her lean protein. The ‘pudding consistency so many people don’t like is exactly what makes this food perfect; hydrated, pureed food is easier to digest! Decades ago I had a Boston with liver issues; I cooked and pureed all her food; I wish this dehydrated food had existed! I give her hard knuckle bones or bully sticks to gnaw on from time to time to keep her teeth scraped and clean.

My pup was on the 26/16 formula and thrived on it. Now it’s been discontinued so I have no choice but to go with the 27/17 formula, which there should be no difference other than the protein and fat content.

WELL THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE! It made my pup very sick. There is added ingredients. I wish Purina would stop screwing with their formulas. When you have a good product, LEAVE IT ALONE! Needless to say I am switching brands for my 6 mos old pup and probably will switch the rest of my kennel to another brand.

Super angry with Purina and I have voiced my concerns!.

I bought this food because one of my dogs started having a fat/protein issue with kibble when I tried her on the other proplan performance. It is the same amount of protein and fat as her previous food that she had no issues on and so far no improvement on this food.

That said other than putting on a little extra weight my other dogs are doing good on it. The thing that makes me wonder about this kibble is when you add water to it it turns into a puddle pretty quick, and it doesn’t puff up like all the other kibbles ive tried.

I don’t know why it does it just interesting to me.

Perfect balance of fat and protein for a young active Labrador. The medical world still has not figured out why dogs who eat Grain Free foods get heart disease. But mostly one can look at the high pea content in Grain free foods preventing absorption of nutrients in the gut.

Not taking any chances and the Pro Plan food works. I was once a label reader, now I am a Company reader. Purina has put so much research put into their diets you know you are getting proper nutrition for your pet.

I got a lab/husky puppy. First results I was noticing was large amounts of poop/diarrhea! I thought it would slow down but never did. He wasn’t gaining any weight then ended up seeing blood in stool.

When it’s been from last meal at night to morning feeding. His first poop before he eat would be looking more trying to go back to normal until he eats again!. His farts was wayy too strong/unpleasant & He wasn’t acting like a puppy anymore.

I switched to blue buffalo what I normal feed my pups/dogs when I have one. Automatically I seen a big change in his behavior and laziness/fatigue that was going on! Plus wanting to eat more of it! I was really excited about this product! Maybe it’s just not for this pup! Got a new comer (pitbull pup) coming soon.

I’m going to try and transition him to the bully max and see what’s the out come for him! Hopefully all goes well! No shade, just my experience with it! PS: None of the cons was happening until switched foods, but To be on the safe side.

Made an Doctors appointment too make sure it’s nothing more going on than the transitioning of food! I’ll do an further update about the visit when I make a review for my new pitbull!.

I would have given this 5 stars. My dog loves this bag of food. Chicken flavor, however we were sent lamb. I will continue to order only because my dog loves this and I’m sure it was an honest mistake I just wish everyone was more understanding with my frustration of having to go out buy food to cook for my dog along with having a one year old child.

I was very hurt that after ordering for more than a year that no one was understanding especially during these trying times of inflation. We count on this brand to keep me from worrying about if my dog is getting enough food with what I cooked as well as messing up his digestive track.

He has a very sensitive stomach so after not receiving the correct bag. Still. He’s having issues and is now on plain chicken white rice and pumpkin. Hopefully the next shipment is right. Truly we are hurt.

Our dog is everything to us.

I was skeptical at first and literally thought about ordering Bully Max a million times. I had heard nothing but good things about it but all on the internet. No one I knew had first hand knowledge. So, I took a leap of faith and even had issues with UPS so it took almost a month to get my first order.

Needless to say I was even more doubtful. but when I actually got the products I could tell the difference by the second or third day. I was amazed and still am. My Bullys hold weight better, she’s more energetic, her coat seems thicker and most of all her muscles pop out and the muscle definition is nothing less than extraordinary.

All just from feeding her Bully Max! Next best thing is that she loves it!!! And I’ve noticed that she doesn’t have the bad gas like she used to. I’m pretty sure Bully Max found a customer for life! All I can say is this is an amazing product and I recommend it to anyone who has Bullys or even dogs.

Now if I could just find a way to get the cost of shipping down I would be very gracious!!!.

I have 4 rescue wolf dogs and 2 rescue labs. Lots of appetites! I balance out their diet with this food, they eat quite a bit of raw meat, veggies and fruits- but still need the vitamins and minerals for a healthy diet.

To them this bag has treats inside. After picking out all the chicken chunks they think I specially gave with dry dog food, they eat the rest of the remaining kibble. I am cautious of treats for dogs because of where they are manufactured and ingredients, they get raw cow bones, deer bones , chicken feet and occasionally a treat bone maybe once every 6 Mos.

My pack is healthy , happy and full of energy along with beautiful double coats of fur that float by me. Ordering was easy, cheaper than @ a regular store. The only problem that happened was their 6 mo treat bones didn’t come with their order after I told them they got treats on the way.

I contacted Chewy and they were shipped out that day. I’m trying the regular once a month delivery and will see how much it stays within my budget, rescuing dogs, I never know when another forgotten soul will need a place to feel safe and join my pack until they find their forever home.

I have fed this exact dog food except for it was chicken and rice for the last 5 years or so my 6-year-old dog was having some gut issues and when I went to get her up today on her shots for boarding I brought up some of the issues and he said you need to put her on Purina One I told him she already is on Purina One chicken and rice.

He proceeded to tell me to switch her to the lamb and rice formula. So I did this is the third bag (not of this size) it took her quite a few weeks actually quite a few months to fully get back to eating normal in fact she’s not there yet at first she would just nibble and then she started eating a little more and then got to where she was eating about half of her normal feast.

I know this is a long review my point is I can tell that it’s treating her better by the look of her poop and she doesn’t seem to do her stretching issues when she’s eating. Her shedding has got better and I will continue to feed it to her and I hope I continue to see improvements.

Please keep this product in stock that is one of the hard issues with this product. It’s very hard to find! I would definitely recommend this product to my friends and family!.

We added a 5th member to our pack for a Christmas present 🙂 He’s a beautiful german shepherd boy. The breeder had him on a $95 a bag puppy food. Yeah, just no. We bought another brand of puppy food and the purina canned food, which he ate.

We noticed after we bought the 2nd bag that he seemed disinterested in the food. Our pet store let us exchange the unopened bag of the previous food for this. We bought the biggest bag they had, not knowing if he would even like it.

He loves it and is devouring every meal with a little canned as a topper. We also give this to our 2 year old Golden who seems to love it, which is a bonus because he has been a picky eater from the day we brought him home.

They both love it. With 5 dogs, feeding time can be hectic, but it’s a team effort and every one of them is eating a Purina brand of dog food!! These two boys on the Large Breed Puppy and my three small ones are on the Purina Beneful with the matching wet food as a topper.

Geez it’s nice not having 4 or 5 different foods. Wonderful food!.

Our 60lb rescue has been eating Taste of the Wild since we got him 2 years ago and we are very pleased with this brand! We started him off on the grain-free recipe at first but switched to the ancient grains line because he kept having loose stools.

Our vet also warned us that grain-free isn’t good for most dogs. After switching to ancient grains, our pup hasn’t had any problems! He’s quite a picky eater but he loves this recipe! Everyone has always commented on how soft and silky his coat is and I have to give credit to Taste of the Wild.

I did extensive research about the brand before choosing them and truly could not find a dog food that is better. Ingredients are all very high quality, well-sourced, and mixed in the correct ratios for a healthy dog.

Make sure you look at the recipes carefully when selecting though because some flavors have lower protein content than others. I highly recommend this brand and the ancient wetlands recipe! You can’t beat this quality at this price!.

We started buying TOTW when we adopted our poodle terrier. Vet said Poodles tend to have heart issue with grain free so we opted for ancient grains prairie this time & the dogs knew what was inside the package as soon as I brought it inside the house.

I was happy to see the year expiration date, even though it won’t last more than 6 months. To help keep poos a little firmer I blend a 5 lb bag of grain free TOTW Salmon to the 28lb bag of ancient grain & my dog loves the flavor.

(The Salmon has a fishy smell but isn’t over powering. Salmon helps with my dogs sensitive skin) This is the 1st time I’ve ordered dog food through Chewy & would totally recommend it. If you are new to TASTE OF THE WILD then take your time & and blend slowly to avoid tummy upset.

I actually weighed the food to blend it to exactly 10%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 40%, 45% etc. , giving 5 days on each milestone. My 9 year old dog doesn’t like the blend ratio more of 25% to her grain free brand that she has eaten for more than 5 years.

I believe in the health benefits of TOTW but want to keep her happy so we have 2 separate mixes/meals. If you are on the fence try a 5 lb bag first, that’s what I did, but again that’s when our puppy only weighed 4 lbs.

I agree with Ella. If you have a pup who’s sensitive to beef or chicken, this product is the best go to! I’ve switched my boy quite a few times either because the food he was on was too pricey, he was allergic, or the food became hard to come by during the pandemic.

When I originally adopted my boy and he rescued me, he was on Royal Canian and his stool was incredibly loose so I knew right away to switch him. I switched him to his fur brother’s food which he did very well with but Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison became difficult to come by during the pandemic.

Even Chewy didn’t have the food for a while as the Natural Balance company stopped production. So had to switch him again. After much research I switched my boy over to TOTW High Prarie Bison and Sweet Potato.

He loved it and I read the bag to make sure there was no beef or chicken in the ingredients prior to buying. Originally there wasn’t but by the time he went through his second bag I started noticing that my boy was itching alot.

At first I thought it was an environmental change but then after the fourth bag I had enough and decided to re- read the ingredients just to see if maybe they changed. To my surprise they did and now the product had chicken by products, chicken meal, beef by products, and lasly beef meal.

I’m not sure which he’s allergic to so I decided to stay with TOTW but switch the flavor since he loved the brand so much and would clean his bowl to the point where it’s shiny again. After doing research again I was hoping there was a flavor that my boy would like but didn’t have chicken or beef by products or meal.

Came across this flavor and was hesitant at first as I’ve read that sometimes when dogs eat dog food that is fish flavored, they start smelling like fish. My medium size pup sleeps with me in my bed so the last thing I want to do is sleep in a bed that smells like fish lol.

Thankfully this is not the case and ever since switching him over, he’s been itch free for the most part, his skin is not as dry or let alone it’s not even flakey anymore, he constantly gets complimented on his brindle coat being so shiny when seen from afar and then when he’s pet by people they immediately compliment how soft his coat is.

I couldn’t be more satisfied and I like that I am saving some money in a way of investing in the 28lb bag at $49-52 that will last me 2 months verses a 14lb bag at $31-32 that only lasts a month. I agree though that it would be nice if the bags were resealable especially with how convenient it would be when switching over a pup.

I had to buy two containers when switching my boy over from the High Prarie to the Pacific Stream. Other than that definitely a great go to product if you have a food sensitive pup :)!.

My boy has been eating Hill’s Diet food products for most of his life. He was eating Prescription Diet Metabolic and Mobility for a few years, but feeding time was always a chore. He wouldn’t want to eat it unless topped with boiled chicken breast pieces or canned prescription diet food.

It was expensive enough that I hated wasting food (because he’d eat around it), but as it was prescribed, I didn’t want to not follow his vet’s orders UNTIL there were “supply-chain problems” and that food became extremely expensive and unavailable.

I took advantage of that inability to acquire the more expensive prescription diet food and switched almost very abruptly to this slightly-less-expensive food. It’s the only time that I’ve seen him eat dry food voraciously just for the taste of it since he was an actual puppy and ate to please me.

He’s five now and knows what he wants and has no problems expressing himself when he’s not happy. This food makes meal time less stressful. I love hearing him crunching on his dry food, but I also know that I can trust the brand for healthful and nutritious meals.

At first, I worried about abandoning the prescription diet because it has the added supplements for his arthritic joints. But these newly-formulated options also have the Glucosamine and Chondroitin that the vet recommends and, just in case this formula has less than what is recommended for therapeutic levels, he is still taking the supplements with MSM as well.

That, he does to make me happy; he eats this food out of pure joy. Is it the Lamb and brown rice? I don’t know. All I know is that I am not throwing away food anymore.

The food has done an amazing job of clearing the plaque and tartar of my dog’s teeth. Unfortunately, the food has only been able to clear the tartar and plaque on one side of her back teeth. I don’t believe this is due to the food, but rather that she chews the food on one side of her back teeth.

As much as the food has worked it did, however, take some experimentation to get her to eat the food, so here’s some tips and tricks to get your dog to eat the food. 1. Serve the food in the mornings as their first meal of the day (they will have no choice but to eat it.

) 2. Serve the food with some of their favorite wet dog food. (They will be familiar with the wet dog food and it will entice them to eat the new food. ) 3. If your dog is a picky eater or has sensitive teeth, you can add some water and microwave it for 10 to 15 seconds.

(Depending) 4. If you’re desperate you can add their favorite wet dog food and microwave it. The smell of the wet dog food will get very strong that it will make them curious to the new food. 5. When microwaving and adding wet dog food be careful, don’t make the food too soft.

The idea of the size and hardness of the food is that it takes your dog longer to chew which will have your dog use their back teeth. 6. Rotate the food with their regular food. So far these tricks have not affected the effectiveness of the food.

My senior dog gained weight and was having constipation issues. Even senior formulas have too many calories for her. My vet recommended I put her on a diet food of my choice. Not only would this help her loose weight, and keep it off, but the extra fiber would help her constipation troubles.

For me, it was a choice between this and Purina Pro Plan. I choose this food as it has about 300 cals per cup as well as having a good fiber content. Simply cutting her portions down more wasn’t helpful as she would simply be consuming too little nutrients and feel hungry.

My dog loves the taste of this food. It seems to smell ok to me (for dog food). This food will make your dog have massive poops, but that is great for my dog who needed the extra fiber. Her issues were beyond pumpkin.

After a transition to this food she is very regular. My dog has lost weight after one bag. She is currently almost 3lb down. She wasn’t massively overweight, but her ideal weight is probably about 62-65 and she was a hefty 70! Weight loss in animals can be slow, but even a few pounds makes a massive difference.

She already looks leaner and has more desire to excersize. I’ll probably keep her on this food long term once she is healthy and bump up the serving size to maintenance.

The ingredients changed summer of 2022. I started my dog on this brand years ago for the probiotics and holistic factor as I did the research and found the ingredient list to be high quality. Post Covid I understand things have been changing on many levels when the bag weight was decreased from 30lb to 28lb.

Unfortunately the bag label also changed and as I finished the old bag happened to notice the kibble was significantly drier and smaller. So I looked at the label and found variances although the bag says nothing about a new formula.

Probiotics went from 31million CFU to 10 million. New product added taurine. No iron on new label but ingredient list shows Iron Proteinate (same as original and still 9th ingredient from last; so I can only assume there’s no less than 275 mg), new has no vitamin c, more egg than barley, and a couple other variances.

Due to lack of transparency and visual quality variance, I’m personally inclined to doubt quality of manufacturer as it’s clearly not the same. I’m still buying this for my dog but looking around. Im not saying this is horrible food.

I purchased intentionally at onset in lieu of adding probiotics to food. 10 bil CFU is standard, so the new food does provide the daily allowance. I’m on the fence why they wouldn’t indicate there’s a change and for not labeling iron as a mineral.

The way the ingredients list changed doesn’t seem like a big deal but when I look at quality, I can see noticeable difference as to something I may not give my dog. It looks grey instead of moist, rich and nutritious.

For these reasons, I suspect the nutrition label isn’t telling the whole story. Also, you’d probably not notice a new volume weight because the bag doesn’t point out/ advertise *new size but does list it on the bottom.

The price is still the same, and effort went into changing packaging so the 2lbs is barely noticed. Chewy CS confirmed the size change moving forward, when I inquired. I guess it’s up to interpretation if these are concerns but wanted to share what info isn’t being shared transparently from the manufacturer and misidentified nutritional content labeling.

I usually swap bags and never would’ve known this formula changed had I not saw the kibble was dry. I actually thought it was a bad batch of food but guess this is the new normal for Dr Gary’s. Photos show quality and mind you that the old large kibble recipe was at the bottom of my food container and lost some of the moisture.

The fresh out of bag nuggets looked almost wet but you can see what you were getting considering how healthy it still looks, months after opening.

We are SO happy with this formula of food! It has been impossible to find kibble that is above 550 kcals for my poodle who can not keep any weight on. This kibble was the perfect match though. It fit my budget better than the competing brands with similar kcals and formulas and it also was a win for my SUPER picky poodle who sometimes will go many days without eating if he doesn’t like the food.

He scarfed his first bowl of this down with no problems! We are going to pair it with the freeze dried food we use and hopefully this will be the food to FINALLY put some healthy weight on my scrawny boy! I’m also very pleased with how well it was manufactured.

The bag came very tightly sealed and has a zipper seal so it can be kept right in the bag and stay fresh! We will be buying this food again! It’s a lesser known brand (honestly hoping it stays that way so I don’t have to go on crazy searches like I do for our old foods that constantly were out of stock!).

Love the quality of this food, love that my Great Dane loves it. the packaging is the BEST I’ve ever seen. all great except the kibble is so small my cats can eat it! This is Giant Breed specific dog food.

why cannot the kibble be giant sized too! Ugh. anyone with a large jowled dog, I’m sure would agree this small kibble is a pain. one look to the left. all over the floor. one look to the right. all over the floor!!! Unfortunately, my Dane will not eat off the floor.

well that is Fortunate in other aspects, anyway he eats his food from a standing dog feeder and therefore more distance for it to fall from his mouth and more momentum to bounce off his rug onto the hardwood floor which gives it just the right platform to bounce, tumble and roll all over the place! But with all that and it’s a big pain, picking it up and it’s like stepping on a pebble when you are barefoot and that just hurts but with even that, I continue to buy.

because all the good in this dogfood out weighs all that! Its truly the best food that my dog loves that I have ever found. Now my dog isn’t really picky. He will eat what I give him at least a little or when he is just really hungry but he gets excited for this food even still now after feeding him it for at least 4-5 months now.

I first found out about this food at a police K-9 seminar. I sat there a class discussing canine nutrition and this food was the topic of discussion. The nutritionist broke down by each ingredient across the board what the purpose of each of these things were to a dog.

He also explained all the tricks that food companies will use in their labeling process to convince us to buy their product. He explained to us that dogs are not people and we can’t treat them the same way as people.

We can’t fall into The Fad diets of no grains or kale and other nonsense in dog food because dogs have different nutritional requirements. Especially working dogs! Our companions came from wolves. And wolves ate everything! From the hooves to the stomach contents.

He showed us before and after photos of dogs that switched over to this food and it was eye-opening. All these high-end working dogs look amazing after just being on this food for a few weeks. Their coats improved their weight stabilized and many food allergies and digestive issues resolved themselves.

I learned that just because a dog food says it’s vitamin-enriched does not mean your dog can actually absorb that particular vitamin. It’s all about how it’s compounded into the food. And dog food companies will use tricks to convince you that there’s is the best and most nutritious for your partner.

I was buying the most expensive food and therefore what I thought was the best. And I found out that I was not feeding my dog even close to what she needed for Optimum performance. This food is amazing! Just a few weeks on it and she is stunning! Her performance has improved dramatically! Her stools have firmed up and her coat is flawless! She has so much energy to spare and it was a game-changer.

Because this food is so nutritionally dense and highly digestible you need to really pay attention to the feeding requirements labeled on the back. You don’t need to feed as much! It’s amazing! Try this food you won’t regret it and while you’re at it get some of their nutritional supplements! Especially the hydro! If you’re traveling a lot with your dog or working in a hot environment that will save your dog’s life!.

Just started this food. We breed working dogs so it’s important to have a good quality food that keeps them looking good. I was reading up about this food on a working dog site so I thought I’d give it a try.

Dogs seem to like it. Price isn’t bad. Was easy to transfer from other food to this food. No real change in stools, they became slightly soft while transitioning but once completely on Kinetic stools were firm.

So far I can’t complain the dogs like it. We’ll see how it goes with the puppies and how well they like it. Otherwise I’d say give it a try.

I have fed many foods throughout the years and had trouble finding one I liked well enough to stick with. I used to manage a pet store and also have multiple certifications in pet nutrition. I eventually decided to try Kinetic and haven’t looked back! I have fed it for a year now, including through breeding and whelping a litter of puppies (I show and work with rough and smooth collies).

My dogs have never looked better. I enrolled in Kinetic’s Breeder Program and was sent great resources to give to the new homes of my puppies. I cannot speak more highly of this food and recommend it to so many people.

I have two cats who were on P. Naturals for almost five years, both were doing well on it until the brand made a change to their formula causing one of my babies to throw up all of the contents of his stomach.

After experimenting and testing to ensure thay he wasn’t gorging the food it was evident that it was a reaction to the formula change. I compared the ingredients and I’d noticed several changes to it.

The most prominent ingredient was Canola Oil, since he’s shown sensitivities to this oil I chose P. Naturals as it didn’t have it for years. After sniffing their food it also lacked lush brown color that it once had, showing more yellow as well as smelling incredibly stale.

I just fed the rest to strays wandering my home while doing researching on different foods for them. I finally settled on this one and bought a small bag for them to share. My sweetheart absolutely adored it, devoured it right away.

I’ve never seem him so excited to eat before. The first thing thay I noticed within a week was how silky soft his fur was. It had rough patches, but a majority of it was silky soft. He kept this brand down as well as stayed fuller longer.

He’s always been a great boy for me and would slowly eat his food prior to this, but it seems like he handles just as well with small portions. This food was a great decision to me and lasts about two weeks for two cats.

I feed my boys once a day, at least two and a half cups in total for them in a slow feeder. My other boy gorges food as if he’s never eaten in his life. I would absolutely recommend this food to anyone who’s cat has a sensitivity to certain foods or needs to feel full longer.

This really was a life changer.

I have done a ton of research and tried many different brands of dry cat food over the past 15+ years and these days I exclusively use Nature’s Variety Instinct Raw Boost dry food for my 3 cats. My requirements these days include high protein and grain-free ingredients.

The fact that this stuff also has nuggets of freeze-dried raw ingredients is a bonus! Cats are obligate carnivores and do not need/want things like corn gluten meal, rice, oatmeal, etc. in their food.

They need meat meat meat. I switched my cats over to high-protein and grain-free food many years ago and have absolutely no regrets. My cats are happy, healthy, and lean. Fat cats are always the ones who are fed crap like Friskies and 9Lives.

That stuff is full of cheap carbohydrate fillers. This food is pricey at like $40 per 10 pound bag but it is so nutrient-dense that one bag lasts my 3 cats at least a month. I do give them the occasional can of wet food as a treat but the primary basis of their diet is this food.

I’ve had vets and vet-techs telling me that one of my cat’s urinary blockages was caused by the high-protein food. That just proved to me that I know more about feline diets and that I had to find a new vet.

I was pretty impressed with this food. For background, I have a Chorkie that is allergic to everything edible AND on top of that she trusts to have high-end (read, finicky) taste. Because of this she is on a homemade diet, but she does have kibble as a midnight snack.

Acana has been our go-to, but since they’ve changed their recipe to include sweet potato in the limited ingredient line, we’re now down to one flavor with them and I wanted to introduce a 2nd protein into the kibble rotation.

When I brought the bag in the house, her nose was all over it, which is usually a good indication. She quickly finished her servings and looked for more. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize this was a high protein food, so I had to return it.

We’re going to try the limited ingredient line and see if that gets the same results.

I had been looking for a high quality kibble for my 18 month old working GSD for a long time! I had tried numerous brands even tried some of the fresh alternatives which for me are extremely expensive, but do offer good quality.

My dog is extremely high energy and doesn’t really have an “off switch” and as such has had more than his fair share of GI issues in his young life. We finally determined he could not tolerate chicken or turkey or duck, nothing with feathers as the protein source.

He also can not tolerate blueberries, yes you read that correctly, something as good as blueberries twists his GI tract up terribly. This Orijen is one of very few kibble recipes that have no fowl and no blueberries and he absolutely loves it! The protein is very high quality and there are some grains to ensure he gets the taurine he needs as well.

If I had one issue with the recipe I would say it’s with the addition of the mackerel fish, while I understand the need for the oils for omega’s I would rather see salmon used instead. He seems to be doing well his poop’s are for the most part firmish and there is about 25-30 percent less of it so I believe he is absorbing more of the nutrients.

The price is about what you would expect to pay for food of this quality and about 50 percent less than the “subscription” based “fresh” foods.

I never fully got on the grain-free bandwagon, and now that I’ve read the FDA report connecting grain-free dog foods to canine dilated cardiomyopathy, I’m glad I didn’t! I got my new pup at 9 weeks about 3 months ago, and he was on wet food but showing interest in his dad’s kibble at that time.

The vet said she recommended “anything except grain-free,” so I started checking ingredients, looking at reviews, and reading through all the published studies about canine diet that I could get my hands on.

Orijen Amazing Grains Puppy Food was my first pick, and while it took my pup a little while to get used to it (he wanted to play with it rather than eat it!), he’s taken to it well. He still eats his wet food first, but then he snacks on this kibble throughout the day.

He’s healthy and happy, seems to have no digestive issues at all, and certainly enjoys mealtime. For my part, I’m happy to see lots of quality meat ingredients, no peas or potatoes (the problem ingredients related to heart issues), and a good protein and fat ratio.

It’s a little pricy, sure, but for a dog likely won’t top 10 pounds, it’s affordable. We’re going do a rotation diet, so he gets a variety of proteins and isn’t dependent on one brand, but Orijen is definitely going to be part of the regular diet.

Our dear miniature Schnauzer has been on the low-fat formula for years to ease her issues with Pancreatitis and now Diabetes. She was thriving well, few pancreatitis flare-ups, good body condition, happy and otherwise in great shape because of her low-fat diet.

Unfortunately, we have just discovered that we were given the wrong Gastrointestinal formula, by mistake. My husband thought the bag was different but couldn’t figure out how. It turns out that the line “Low Fat” (Dry Dog Food) was missing.

There is a difference in fat content between the two versions of Gastrointestinal. Our dog has been under intensive care for over a week now with a flare-up of serious proportions. The two versions of Gastrointestinal are so easy to mix up.

Perhaps Royal Canin could change the photo of the dog on the Low-Fat version and stipulate “Low-Fat Gastrointestinal” for visually motivated people. This may help owners and pooches in the future. A large, red sticker across the front of the bag would help until you can make a proper change to packaging.

Vet clinics are so busy these days. We also miss the low fat treats that have now been discontinued. What a shame.

My dog is an extremely fussy eater and has been like it all her life,she is now 13yrs 6months. I have tried many foods for her diet, mainly revolving around freshly cooked chicken, however, she has been tried on many tinned foods but will not touch them, one sniff and she senses it is not to her palate.

I am not prepared to starve her into eating, but like all dogs, they eat when they need to as they do not emulate humans, although many owners try. This dog food smells delicious and as soon as I open it to feed her, she is waiting at the door, ready to eat.

and does, with gusto! I have had many dogs in my life but this food for our canine friends is fairly new and worth every penny. Try it and see your dogs reaction, they will come back for more. My dog eats once a day which keeps her healthy and her weight as it should be.

Give them healthy treats as rewards during the day which boosts the immune system and keeps their teeth clean but give them quality food like Crave in their diet.

Loved this product BUT. SEVERAL factors played a part of our new dog food. One. Im not sure why in God’s name this was and IS so hard to actually purchase! The kibble itself was small bits/ pieces and this was one of the brands that actually never evens mentions ” for small breed ” or whatever.

At THAT time, all of crave was the same bite sized pieces. Two. I ended up losing my main job due to the lovely Miss Cov!d and to no avail of loss, the local Kroger was the ONLY store in the whole area who carried this dog food.

If I remember correctly we got the 11 lb bag priced at usually around 28 something. Welp, as my luck runs. I broke my knee cap shortly before all of this and had used chewy so afterward and the US shutdown, I attempted it again.

Chewy customer service IS amazing but I never ordered again after finding the same dog food for over forty bucks. I called to find out if they do price comparison and was told the typical ” im sorry but.

no. ” , speech. I explained that it was highway robbery after the lady broke down how it was all ” digital ” now and they have no control over price changes. Ok fine but it literally is robbing ppl under a US deemed pandemic.

THEN. come to find the local Kroger, quit carrying the dog food and shortly picked it up again. Sent me all over Kindgom Come to find a bag in the meantime. I wasnt doing it again. So. We switched to something else grain free, way cheaper and the picky dog seems to be ok with the new.

switched to this from grain-free six fish which she loved. pretty sure she loves the amazing grains version even more. she is so picky we went through more than 20 different brands/recipes (both wet and dry) since I adopted her just to find something she would eat happily and consistently.

not even nomnomnow with their four different fresh-cooked recipes delivered monthly would she be happy to eat the rotating selection without getting sick of every single one of the options. with orijen six fish we finally found our holy grail.

and i only have to buy the one bag with nothing taking up freezer/fridge space. and now amazing grains six fish is even better. and if she’s happy, i’m happy. only thing comparable is dr. bob goldstein’s wisdom catfish air dried dog food, but that’s almost the same price for less than half the amount.

orijen amazing grains is much better value with similar results, at least as far as my dog’s discerning palate. 10/10 would recommend to feed any picky huskies.

I received this dog food as a part of a review and trial from Home Testers Club and it definitely did not disappoint. Upon receiving it I read the packaging to make sure it had an appropriate amount of protein and fat for my pups.

I have two Pitbulls and their breed requires high protein and high fat for their diet. This food is almost perfectly balanced for them so that made me happy, however, it still needed to be put to the test of two finicky eaters.

The food itself is very high calorie compared to a lot of mainstream dry dog foods, so definitely read the directions for feeding and give the appropriate amount as it is likely less kibble than you are used to dishing out for your fur baby.

My first impression was a little shocked at the smell. It smells pretty bad in my opinion, however it comes in a recloseable bag so that isn’t a deal breaker. Both dogs actually loved it. And they both seemed to take to it well and thrive with plenty of energy and no upset stomachs.

I decided to try this super expensive dog food because my 10 year old mini pin was “getting old” and beginning to develop the typical health problems associated with aging. She was: severely overweight; losing mobility; exhibiting difficulty breathing; and appeared to always be in pain.

Within one month, I noticed her perking up and looking more vibrant. By the third month, her hair was shinier, softer, and she was visibly overall healthier. One year on solely Orijen, and she has trimmed down, become the vivacious dog she once was, and gotten back to fetching, running and jumping off the deck with our younger dogs.

Orijen has given Kona her life back, and while its price is out of this world compared to other dog food, it is a long-term investment that will help keep your dogs out of the Vet’s office. We only feed all of our dogs Orijen now.

So I rescued my dog a year ago, before doing so I did a whole bunch of research on dog foods, treat, dental care etc. And through all of that research I found this brand was the most consistent and best fit for my pup.

At first it was. Healthy poops, great muscles as a result of exercise and she loved the food. Now however she is a little pickier when eating. We do switch it up; boiled chicken, pumpkin, eggs, rice so it’s not always kibble.

However, The last few bags of the food that we purchased literally smell like the inside of a Lowe’s/ Home Depot store. It smells like a warehouse and very weird and stale, and this is purchased from three different places.

(Chewy, Petco, and pet supplies plus). my dog also noticed and will not eat it now. It is extremely frustrating because the food was fine at first. But now each bag has this odor. I’m not sure if Maybe it’s something their using to preserve the food, but it’s a very unpleasant odor so much so that my dog will no longer touch it.

And to ensure that it was the food and not medical illness or another concern I tried feeding her bentiful and she ate it right up. And has no problem with treats or her vitamins or anything else she consumes.

It’s just simply the way the food smells now(which Im sure has some sort of influence in the way it tastes as well).

We have a family of sensitive morkie’s. My mom has the mother and son, while I have the daughter. They all require a “limited ingredient” diet or else they will have diarrhea. I’ve tried many different foods through the years but Wellness brand has been my favorite after trials and research.

Dog Food Advisor rated this food at a full 5-stars so I thought I’d try it and see if the well made food had good enough ingredients to hold up, since many limited ingredient formulas didn’t have as high of a rating, and I want the best for my kiddos.

The Wellness CORE line has been the only food to not cause diarrhea! I thought I’d push it further and try the “wholesome grains” recipe since vet’s spoke out about grain free not being a healthy choice, and even still! I don’t know what their allergy/sensitivity is, but it provides me so much comfort to know that they don’t have whatever ingredient it is.

It also makes me wonder what is in all these other foods that causes them this problem? I recommend trying Wellness to everyone I know!.

I always feed my dog the best of the best out there, I was feeding Orijen for a long period of time but really wanted to get away from peas and lentils. My dogs eat allot of different brand superfood Orijen, Stella and chewy, Taste of the wild, Fromm just to name a few.

all with peas and lentils with is a big concern now with dcm even the wholesome grain contained peas and lentils. I found wellness wholesome grains after month of research it contain no peas or lentils and potato, what a relief!! I was bit shock that wellness wholesome grain total health still have peas and potato in it,, it must be remove asap as people are more aware and do make research now.

I will continue with the core wholesome grain but hope to se some improvements on other line of wellness products.

Great dog food, I’m an AKC breeder of merit and my wolfhounds love this kibble. I cannot give it 5 stars because it is very expensive; however, it’s one of the few products on the market that contains beef & corn (grainless = hypertrophic cardiomyopathy heart disease), but does NOT contain known allergens such as peas, soybeans, or beet pulp.

I’m stuck paying the price. The 30/20 is effective at keeping weight on my active dogs. I also supplement with additional fats, raw meat and vegetables to maintain weight when necessary. Shipping is horrible.

I order five bags at a time and pallet delivery is consistently ten days late from what was promised. Ordering two bags at a time is more timely but not always punctual. Another issue is that this product is consistently out of stock at any of my local TS stores and sometimes online as well.

The other 30/20 flavors are not equivalent, the dogs have less appetite for the chicken or salmon, and their coats aren’t as shiny. The bison costs even more with less added benefits….

The AAFCO statement for this food is as follows: “SKOKI is formulated to meet the nutritional guidelines established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages except for the growth of large sized dogs (70lbs or more as an adult)” In order to be able to put that the dog food meets AAFCO’s standards, the pet food company must design a food to meet all standards or send their food to a third party tester to ensure all standards are met.

If a company just designs a food to meet the profile standards, then the AACO statement will say, “- is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles -” If the food also goes to third party testing, then the AAFCO statement will read, “Animal feeding tests using the Association of Animal Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) procedures substantiate that – provides a complete and balanced nutrition for -” It is very important to note that AAFCO sets the standards.

They do not test, regulate, approve or certify any foods. It is up to the pet food companies to make sure that they are following all of the guidelines and using third party testing facilities to check their products.

With that knowledge, we know that they did not do feeding tests. But, most importantly, I see many reviewers feeding this to their large and giant breed puppies. This will cause joint issues when fed to large and giant breed puppies.

Please do research on calcium to phosphorus ratios. To meet AAFCO nutrient profiles for growth in large breed puppies, a dog food must contain: 2. 0 to 4. 5 g calcium per 1000 calories. 2. 5 to 4. 0 g phosphorus per 1000 calories.

Calcium-to-phosphorus ratio 1:1 to 1. 8:1. This food does not. Ending note. This is not a bad food. It is a great food. But, be smart enough to know what you are feeding to who.

Marlee is a 12 year old black Dane (rescued 9 years ago). She is still pretty healthy for an old dog, still alert, but she does get finicky with her food at times. I switched over from Blue senior because of the little black pellets which Marlee would totally avoid.

We switched to Skoki based on my daughter’s recommendation, she works with a holistic vet. The food is excellent, but unfortunately Chewy cannot seem to keep it in stock. I’ve had problems with Chewy before about saying a product has shipped, then two days later, tells me it doesn’t have the product and we have to cancel the order and scramble elsewhere to find it.

Chewy used to be pretty good, but not any more.

I was looking for a high caloric food that was grain inclusive – Skoki fit the bill. All of my dogs really like this food – high palatability! Quality ingredients (corn, wheat and soy free!) from a reputable company.

Do not hesitate to buy this! The only concern I can see with this food is if your dog has a known chicken allergy.

This is my favorite food for my German Shepherds. They like the taste & there coats are soft & shiny very healthy Shepherds. I have no problem spending more money on the expensive brands. Whatever is best for my dogs but there is no need to because this food is better than food double & triple the price.

I have been using this brand for 6 years now. I try other brands once in awhile to check for quality but always come back to diamond high energy. I believe diamond is made by the same company as wilderness.

Rural king has the best price and since they sell a lot of this brand it is always fresh. I highly recommend this food for all dogs and pups.

This dog food has a higher crude fat content that cold weather breeds like sled dogs need. High protein supports more active dogs. Less active dogs who are normal weight would also do well with Diamond Maintenance.

I run a rescue and we consistently have good results with this food and have never seen a food recall. The Naturals line can be mixed in with it to change up the flavor. Works well with slurry. Feeding 400 pounds a month for about 20 dogs.

With 4 adult Golden retrievers- 2 of which are young and very active bird hunters, 1 is an older semi retired adult, and the other a retired Senior dog, I’ve found this Hi-Energy blend dog food to be a great all-around food that maintains a wide spectrum of ages and activity levels.

These 4 go through a 50# bag every 2 weeks so for the quality and cost it is a pretty budget-friendly kibble. I love that it doesn’t have any artificial food dyes, even though it has corn in it. The only other food I’ve found that I like even better than this, is Diamond’s Naturals large breed lamb and rice.

It has even better nutrients plus the lamb is an excellent higher protein, and it has the dhea that large-boned dogs need for proper growth when they are young. But the biggest it comes in is 40# and it’s a bit more expensive.

Maybe in the future I’ll go back to the lamb and rice, but for the time being I’m sticking with the Hi-Energy food.
