20 Best Heavy Duty Dog Collar (2023 Updated)

Meant to be used as a training aid and worn during training sessions not as a collar. Comes with a slip collar to be worn at the same time – if prong collar fails you still have a collar on your pup.

The collar is easy to put on/ take off, releases easily when pup stops pulling against it, never need the attached rescue colllar but it was comforting to know it was there if he broke through the prong collar.

Attempted positive training with two different trainers with no improvement- second walk with the prong collar our pup stoped pulling. When he pulled it pinched- when he stoped it stoped pinching. Worked great.

When we stoped using the prong collar on walks a couple weeks later – he went back to his normal collar – and he went back to pulling. For the following week we carried the prong collar in our pocket and put it on only if he started pulling.

Only needed to pull it out two or three more times. Sneaky Pete new the difference between the prong and normal collar and only needed to understand it could be swapped out on the fly. Be sure to measure using the guide on Chewy- we did and the collar worked great.

I like the idea of having more control on-leash with my very strong dog. I’ve used 2 different harnesses with little effect. And she’s been to several obedience classes. I wanted to avoid the traditional metal prong collar.

Well, it was very difficult to open the collar. And then I couldn’t remove 2 links to get the correct fit. I couldn’t snap the links back together. I have arthritis in my hands and this collar is beyond my strength.

I’ll have to get a metal one.

I bought this about a week or 2 ago and I am so happy I did! My pup is almost 4 months old and is already 30+ lbs. he’s going to be a big dog and I want him to behave on a leash. He currently pulls so hard on the leash and I’ve tried other methods and collars already.

Nothing seemed to work, until I got this collar! I was able to easily remove links out of it to fit his size and he immediately learned and quit pulling so much! It even helps if he starts barking! I’m so happy I found this and the price is so reasonable!!.

I won’t buy anything else but these Country Brooks Martingale Collar with Double Handle Leash. They are extremely reliable and at an affordable price. Made with heavy duty nylon the anti slip collar is impossible for my dogs to escape from making it great for training and everyday use.

A 6 ft leash is perfect for nature walks however when we are in public the “traffic handle” is just the right length to ensure safe walking in a crowd or near traffic. You can get them in a variety of colors and styles.

I love this collar. I love the colorings of it, and it is made very well. My only wish there was a size between medium and large. I first ordered the large (19-24) and it was way way too big on my dog.

I then ordered the medium (15-20) and it fits perfect when it’s extended all the way. I preferred how the large one was wider. But I still love it. My dog looks very handsome in it, and it seems to be quite comfortable.

My dog’s neck is bigger than his head, so most collars he can slip out of – even some other martingale’s i have purchased. This once fits great.

Well made collar, colors are as shown. I appreciate the width for our yellow male Labrador (80 lbs), and he looks more handsome than usual in it. I had thought it may be a bit ‘too wide’, but actually this width is more effective for him and I prefer it over his slightly narrower collars.

Hopefully it will also wear well over time.

I got a large for my 66lb sapsali. She’s not a strong breed. They resemble bearded collies. She also doesn’t pull either. She isn’t a robot so a couple of times she hit the end of the leash after getting after poop zoomies but it wasn’t hard and we only use a 6ft leash so there wasn’t much of a head start.

The good; 1) It fits well 2) I like how it feels 3) Even after running around in the swamp and coming back looking and smelling like a swamp thing the collar has stayed clean. 4) I like the choice of colors The bad: 1) It is not durable at all.

I started using it in April and the two wholes I use are already a bit stretched. She does not pull at all so if your dog pulls I can see this wearing pretty fast and being a point of failure. 2) back to the not durable, the metal part that sticks through the collar hole is completely bent.

It still is functional but it makes it harder to put on and will fail sooner rather than later. 3) it mats her fur. She only wears her collar on walks but just that amount of wear is enough to mat her fur.

Any collar will do this but this one seems to do it more and faster. For the price I’d expect it to last longer but after just a couple of month’s use with a dog that doesn’t even pull I’m already considering replacing it.

We have 4 colors now—red, yellow, navy, and moonstone. My dog Tyson (lab/pit, 55 lbs. ) fits both a L and an XL, so we have a few in each size. These collars are a buttery matte texture and the design is gorgeous.

We get compliments all the time on his collars. We’ve also tried out a few colors in the poop bag holders, leashes, and harness. Everything is always well-packaged, very consistent, and the customer service is amazing.

Once we got a harness that had a small snag in the fabric and customer service sent us a new one without a defect. Amazing company, worth every penny. I would love to see more colors come out, like a pumpkin spice color in the fall and a cranberry red/purple in the winter.

I ordered this collar in a medium, it was too big for my dog because I measured it wrong (He is actually between sizes). They quickly responded and exchanged it for a small. I already received the new collar in the mail.

Extremely fast shipping!! This is the first collar that he doesn’t scratch at. It is smooth and comfy. Also, the no rinse shampoo smells so fresh and clean and it makes my dog’s coat look like he just had a bath.

I have ordered several of these collars for my 130-pound Rottweiler. His neck is so large that I have a difficult time finding collars that fit him. This product’s XLarge size is perfect. He usually wears the turquoise dog bone print, but I recently ordered the purple paisley for him.

The quality is great, colors are bright and vibrant. When on this collar works perfectly, and overall really happy with it. However, be aware that this collar only slides on and off, it does not clip on or off.

I wanted it just for walks, where I would put collar and leash on and off at those times, and this doesn’t work well for that. So for the time being it has basically replaced our daily collar which is fine, but I’m not a big fan of a martingale as the daily collar, so just be aware.

The collar is absolutely superb!! Sleek and strong , the cobra buckle keeps my mind at peace with its reliability. The quality is amazing , love the width size and the blacked out look. I wasn’t looking for a collar that advertised their huge logo on the collar , that ruins it for me.

When I found this, and the logo was sleek looking and blended in very well and wasn’t over powering, I knew I found the right one. Once in my hands, you can tell this collar was built to last!! I’m very pleased with the collar itself, and it’s the only reason I purchased this item.

The leash on the other hand was just an add on and I was hoping it would be a great match with the collar but it’s not. The leash is cheap thin nylon and the buckle is small and flimsy, I wouldn’t rely on it to hold my dog , so I still went out to purchase a better leash to go with the collar.

I will be using the leash as a back up , nicely folded in my back pocket. It’s the only reason for the 4 stars, because it came with the combo. The collar itself is a solid 5 STARS!!.

It’s very study, thicker and the Velcro is amazing for adjusting. I don’t have I worry about getting a bigger size collar or the cobra buckle snapping. The cobra buckle is a very unique design on its own.

It’s very rugged and I can tell my pup won’t be able to get free of this collar due to a malfunction. My 4m old GSD pup isn’t quite big enough yet to wear the collar (as his neck isn’t big enough). But I already have stuck on a new patch for his collar “Don’t Tread On Me”.

I can’t wait to add a few more patches to it. And I will be utilizing this collar when we are training with the trainer.

In my opinion these are the best dog collars you can get for the price and durability. They are long lasting, easy to clean, Don’t stink, very visible and rugged. They will however stink if the protective coating gets damaged and moisture, pet dander, and debris actually make contact with the inner nylon fibers.

In my opinion, they are the best type of dog collar regardless of your dog being a hunting dog, working dog, K9, Service dog, Therapy dog, or just the family pet/ companion. The O-ring makes it easy to snap a lead to and it makes the collar harder for the dog to slip their collar.

Personally I never use the D-ring next to the buckle for a lead to clip to. I use it mainly like a belt loop for the extra length and to attach rabies tags, as well as my Dog’s i. d. dog tags with his and my info and his service dog registration info.

I also like the fact it comes with the brass tag with your dog’s name (&/or) your name, phone number, address (&/or) city state zip,OR what ever 3-4lines of information you prefer. I really like the fact that it comes with the option of 3-4-lines.

I used to stamp these same plates with 4-lines at my local supply store before it closed. However most places will only do 3-lines.

Very well made, durable, easy to clean, and no more stinky collar!!! Yeah! I best thing I’ve come to appreciate about this collar is that my dog doesn’t get bit through the collar. That wasn’t even a concern when we purchased it but my neighbors have very large aggressive dog’s that attack my dog.

I have working border collies and I prefer to have my address and contact phone number on a brass plate attached to the dogs’ collars. Identification tags which hang from a collar tend to pick up weeds, leaves and grass when my dogs are working sheep in the pasture and graze areas.

I use only my address and contact phone on all collars so I can interchange them between dogs as the need arises. Plus, the water resistant material is great when the dogs are working in grass with early morning dew or take a splash in the pond after a hard work out.

It fits my girl Trixie really well. The colors are not as vibrant in real, but it still looks very trendy and cute. The clip is plastic, so if you plan on walking your large dog with this, I would recommend using a harness as a backup in case it breaks loose.

Trixie walks really well, so its unlikey to snap while using it with her. I generally find blueberry products a bit pricey for the items you recieve, but if you don’t mind spending some extra bucks for the cuter stuff, its a good buy.

This collar is WAY better quality in person than it appears to be online. The nylon is nice and thick in a durable way, but not at all bulky or uncomfortable for my dog. We were looking for something of quality as our dog has access to a lake in the summer and will often go back and forth between being wet and dry.

When I took it out of the package my dog sat down at my feet and wanted me to put it on her right away! For size reference, my dog weighs 65 lbs, we bought a large. It fits great at the smallest/tightest setting, we could have also purchased a medium and used the largest setting.

I would 100% recommend this to a friend and re buy in the future.

I was really excited to order this collar because I was specifically looking for one that was soft and comfortable for my short-haired dog. This one had great reviews about being comfortable, so I decided to order it.

The pattern and color are super cute and it’s definitely durable. However. There are two spots on the collar where the end of the fabric is sewn into the collar, and not only are the edges of the fabric sharp, but the threads are sharp and plastic-like.

A dog with long hair might not care but I was definitely not comfortable putting this on my girl. In the interest of saving time and money, I wrapped washi tape around the sharp parts which covers them nicely, but of course I’m going to have to change the tape periodically.

Not sure if this is a quality control issue or if this is typical. If it’s quality control, I’d love to be sent another one. One other issue I had is that it’s difficult to adjust as the collar is quite thick as collars go and I have trouble pulling it through the plastic loops to loosen it.

I want to keep it because it’s so cute but it’s not what I expected based on other reviews.

I got the purple one and it’s VERY pretty. the black accents look sleek and the purple is very vibrant. the material is thick and heavy feeling. I don’t attach my leash to her collar (i use a slip lead) so i can’t speak from experience but it seems heavy duty.

my only “complaint” is that i wish the medium was just a *little* bit longer. my girl is 30lbs but she’s got a real skinny neck and i had to loosen it almost all the way for it to fit her. she’s full grown so i’m not worried about her getting too big for it, but if you’re baby is still growing I’d get the next size up.

I am very pleased with this product. This is our 3rd reflective color for our grey 6 year old Mini Schnauzer and the first from this brand. The reflection at night and even in the house is outstanding.

Cute pink Small size is perfect for her and comfortable.

I have used this brand for 4 years now. I buy them when the color starts to fade, etc. from washing and wear. I have very active Rotties and they are a good weight and do not cut the hair as they are lined well.

Very durable and the colors are great. Hope you keep adding new colors.

Finding a collar that’s not only large enough, but just as importantly wide enough, and is also comfy and well made and sturdy has proven very difficult. (Online, I should say. ) That is, until I FINALLY discovered this collar, which has all of the features I need for my 100+ pound Pit Bull / American Bulldog mix! It’s very sturdy and cushioned, which is necessary on a dog that large.

I don’t have one bad thing to say about this collar. It even looks great on him, which is always a plus, especially when you can find one with EVERY necessary requirement. The buckle is plastic, but it’s sewn on both sides (looped), so it seems sturdy.

The ring is thick, and sturdy for an XL dog. If you’re looking for the same things I was, then I highly recommend this collar! Now the only thing left to do is take the other 6 or 8 collars that I bought to donate them to the shelter, along with the box of random dog and cat toys that I’ve purchased throughout the year, that my fur babies don’t like or play with.

I save everything I buy that doesn’t get used, food and treats they don’t eat, and any other accessories that aren’t being used, and donate them to the shelter in time for the holidays. I would encourage other people to do the same thing.

Too many times I see reviews of people saying that their animal doesn’t like whatever they bought for them, whether it’s toys, treats, food, beds, bowls, or ANY other animal items, so they throw them in the trash.

When I see that, I want to reply to let them know they can donate ANY animal item (even meds, first aid necessities, flea meds, or literally ANYTHING you buy on Chewy (even open bags of food and treats, and litter!) to their local shelter.

Unfortunately, we can’t reply, so I try to remind people when I’m writing reviews. You can even donate clothes, bows, barrettes and costumes, that would be great for pictures when they list them for adoption online! On a side note, shelters and rescues are ALWAYS in need of used towels (or new), brushes, newspapers, cleaning supplies, shampoos, beds, original Dawn dish soap (the blue one), among other things.

Typically they’ll have a “wish list” of items they need on their website. As an animal rescuer myself, the two other things that EVERY shelter and rescue is ALWAYS in need of are volunteers and foster families.

You can even volunteer just to pet the cats and dogs, and take the dogs for walks. We’re all consistently under-staffed and over worked, so even if you can volunteer one hour a week, your help would be appreciated more than you know! If you made it this far, THANK YOU for reading! =^.

I am guardian to a rescue Walker Hound, complete with the fleshy neck. I thought I would need two collars. One for inside to keep loose and a second adjusted snug enough for walks outside. This one is so easy to adjust, I can change the size while he’s wearing it.

No second collar required! He loves the inside padding. He can jump without it digging in or choking him. The reflective stripes are noticeable at night without being busy looking during the day. Last, but far from least, he looks so handsome wearing it.

This is a really great and modern dog collar. It is durable and my dog hasn’t had any issues with comfort or anything. The reflection aspect of this collar is something that really drew me to it. When the light hits it, the collar glows just a little bit, and you feel so much safer walking when it is dark out.

The clasps on the collar are easy to open, just pull the buttons then the actual collar pieces. I think that the buckle itself is super innovative and I wish more of my collars had it. The collar is super easy to adjust to the correct size and it is so well made I think it will be lasting for a very long time!.

Believe it or not, I’m not using these collars on my dogs! I bought these several years ago to replace my leather tugs on my horse’s breast collar (the tugs are the pieces of leather with buckles that attaches the breast collar to the saddle) and they have stood up to the test of time!!! I’ve probably been using them for 5 years now and they have stood up very well on my breast collar – no loose stitching, no tears in the nylon, all of the buckles are still in great condition! Since they’ve been out in the sun quite a bit and under much harsher conditions, the bright hot pink color that I bought has faded to a much lighter pink, but they still work the same! They clean up fairly easy but mine have quite a bit of other stuff on them that doesn’t clean up so easily.

Very impressed with these and when I want to get new colors for my breast collar I’m definitely buying these again!!!.

I honestly thought that for the price I was paying I was going to receive a sub par item and since my two pups are growing quick I didn’t mind ordering them anyway thinking I may have to replace it soon, and boy am I more than glad I ordered bigger sizes for them! The collars are thick and very durable.

The clasps are metal so there’s no risk of them coming off. My pups liked chewing off each others collars with the plastic clasps. The double layering and stitching are great, and the material is easy to clean.

I ordered one black and one blue, the blue one has gotten very dirty, but come to the pups shower time I add some soap and run it under water and I even wring it to make sure to get it nice and clean, and still the collar doesn’t show any loose stitching etc.

Overall great product. Would recommend!.

Great collar. The thickness is great, so is the width of the collar. I like the color choices too. The buckle is a bit stiff, but it may just need to be worked out a little more. I would recommend ordering 1″ — 2 ” larger than your pet’s measurement.

I measured my dog, ordered according to direction, and had to use the last available notch (especially with my dog as she has a lot of excess skin and fur on her neck). Good choice though — a lot better than I’ve seen in stores recently.

I got the double thick leash recently when I ordered more dog collars. I like the lime w orange letters ( stands out ) I have lime collars over 6 yrs old too, still in great shape. My 4 dogs all wear Orvis & sleep in Orvis beds! I wasn’t sure about this double thick leash but on sale I went ahead and tried it – I LOVE IT! one of my Labradors is 119 lbs so the needed strength of the leash will be perfect!( Only one my if my dogs is small breed )I have lime collars for all dogs , so I ordered the leash in lime w orange (my last name & phone) in case I leave leash at vet etc! It’s quitter honestly overkill on the strength but I love strong stuff so I’m super impressed! I do wish Orvis offered a 4’ length on leashes bc I am used to a 4’ w my larger dogs.

Anyway , if you’d in the fence the double thick leash is SO well made! I even liked the new darker blackish looking hardware ( the leash hook) it’s very cool looking! I’m guessing Orvis has stopped selling the personalized harnesses in lime ? Please offer this again ! I have one dog ( 60 lbs) that wears a harness on walks.

I wish I could order him this in line to match all the other dogs !.

This was my first purchase of these collars, and I will probably buy again when it’s time to replace; however, there is one minor issue. The design of the collar and the embroidery is such that when you tighten the collar, it shortens into the name, which can cut it off.

Two of my three dogs are on the smaller side of the size I purchased, and the choice is either to leave the collar looser than I’d like or have the embroidery blocked. Otherwise – the quality appears excellent, and the embroidery itself is nicely done – even, proportionately sized to the width of the collar – and the fabric seems quality.

We just purchased 2 new collars for our 6 y. o. Cocker Spaniel and they are beautiful! We got the teal with white lettering and the bright orange with black lettering. They are made of very good quality nylon and the clasp is sturdy.

and locks tight. I knew Orvis wouldn’t sell anything less than a quality product and I am so glad we got these for him. Previously used Kong collars but no more! Fell confident in ordering these – You will not be disappointed.

My Shih Tzu’s collar was a mite heavy and now that he is older and has diabetes, something that strong was not needed. This collar is light weight and perfect as I use a harness on him when going outside.

I LOVE the set! It compliments my pups fur. Also, follow the size chart, as it is accurate!

This collar (plus matching leash) in the blue daisy print was a must for our dog because she is named Daisy. It is lovely right out of the package, but not sturdy. We’ve only been using it two weeks and the print is starting to show wear.

(And our use is minimal- we’ve gone on two hikes and just out to potty!) I wanted to love it, but for the price, I do not see this lasting. In fact, we already ordered a new leash & collar from a different brand because we clearly need something hardier.

(I’m hoping we can save this one for special occasions now) The attached photo is from using it for 10 days. I gave it one more star than the leash because it does appear to be very comfortable with the padding & I like the idea of the tag ring separate from the leash ring.

Just not made to last.

I got this collar, in Teal, on 1/6/2022. I loved the color, which is more of a light/sky blue and I loved the style. The downside is that the clip to secure the collar broke mid-May, so it barely lasted four months.

This collar was used mainly to keep identification and rabies tags on my dog. I walk my dogs on harnesses, so my dog did not tug against this collar. I was very disappointed that it was not more durable than that.

This collar is a pretty collar, light weight enough for my small 5lb puppy. The reflective element is going to be great for nighttime walks; however, there were rough, pointy nylon pieces sticking out on the inside of the collar, where it would’ve been rubbing against my puppy.

Good thing I caught this before putting it on her. It was a relatively simple fix. I took some nail clippers to remove the pointy pieces. I do think I snipped some thread in the process, but after 20 minutes of snipping, I fixed it.

My little girl now wears it and is fine. The logo on the outside of the collar has rough edges as well, but that part doesn’t touch the dog. In short, great color collar, cool that it is reflective, but would be painful if you do not make the necessary adjustments prior to putting it on your pup.

Living in the suburbs just outside a major city, a highly reflective collar is a must due to traffic at night during nighttime potty breaks and personal safety on the nighttime walks as well. I purchased Orchid for my baby girl, and Orange for my handsome guy.

The colors are very vibrant and attractive, and highly reflective in ambience lighting as well as in very dark areas whenever any light source catches them! They fit perfectly and stay in place! I do not understand why some reviewers have said it doesn’t reflect well! Just the tiniest light and both of these collars are shining like white on a stop sign! Even brighter if I’m being really honest! I will definitely stick with this one from now on, forget the rest! It reflects very brightly!.

I first got the granite collar for my boxer and loved it! The colors are vibrant and look great against her dark color. It’s also easy on the fir on her neck. I got the camo for my green eyed, silver rescue.

He looks so handsome. Also got a 10 ft leash for training. It’s long but so helpful. I see a few more things I want! Thank you for making great products my mountain dogs love ❤.

Love the collar. I added the bell and love the option to silence it! Works perfectly with the Granite leash. I added the extra carabiner too so I could be hands free with the leash! Great option

This collar is really pretty to look at. I’ve received several compliments on its blue/purple color. However, if you have a dog with short fur, the collar’s reflective tape has plastic ends scratch into my dog’s neck.

He went nuts trying to get the collar off. I used finger nail clippers to cut the ends very short and that helped. Also, the collar is very stiff and has too much hardware for a 13 lb dog (I got the 5/8″ wide collar).

I ended up cutting out a section and sewing it back together.

Purchased this collar in blue along with the matching leash. Unfortunately both are the same- extremely stiff. If needed, this collar does not have a quick release. I never even thought of that until my husband mentioned it when he was putting it on our dog.

I guess that’s not the end of the world as we’re with him pretty much all the time but that quick release function can be a lifesaver in many circumstances. Just like the leash, I keep trying to bend the collar back/forth to soften it up for him but it’s not working.

Also, I don’t see any reflective features on it. Guess my first instinct of buying one of those lighted collars for dusk/dawn walking would have been better. Collar does have a cute design and one of the few I could find that had a leash that matched in colors.

I purchased two of these collars for our lab mixes three years ago. We had to replace one after a year because Dixie tried to play with a skunk and took a direct hit to the face. The smell would not come out of the collar.

The little tab that holds the tags finally broke after three years on Nash’s collar so we purchased another pair. Our dogs spend a lot of time outside and these collars are durable. If it weren’t for the little piece breaking off that hold the tags and the skunk incident we would still be in the original collars.

I highly recommend these especially for large dogs. They are very well made and lab tested.

We are those “dog parents”. Our pups are our kids and we love to spoil and love on them more then most. We absolutely love the collars we ordered from wolfgang. They are super well built and super cool looking.

I bought this for my 15 pound poodle(ish) mix. First impressions were great! I didn’t realize when I bought it that there was a subtle dark grey pattern in addition to the aqua stripes. (Don’t online shop without your reading glasses friends!) I love the pattern though.

This collar has held its color without the dye bleeding onto my pups white fur, an issue I’ve had with my dogs previous collar. The ID ring is big enough to hold a set of tags and clip a leash though.

It was easy to adjust and put on.

These collars are strong and reliable. The quick release buckle is snug but not too hard to release. This is our second one! The first one is still in great shape after two years of use.
